Abstract Background Neural stem cells (NSCs) play a crucial role in the progress of ischemic stroke. Research on zebrafish embryonic demonstrates an association between Strawberry Notch 1 (Sbno1) and central nervous system development. However, the regulation and underlying mechanism of Sbno1 in NSCs have not been studied yet. Here, we investigated the role and the mechanism of Sbno1 in NSCs development and the potential therapeutic value of Sbno1 in ischemic stroke. Methods Adeno-associated virus (AAV) was used for overexpression or knockdown of Sbno1 in vitro or in vivo. A mouse model of MCAO was established to evaluate the neuroprotective effects of AAV-Sbno1, including balance beam test, rotarod test, and strength evaluation. H&E and immunofluorescence assessed neuronal impairment. Western blot and RT-qPCR were used to detect the expression of Sbno1 and its downstream target genes. RNA-seq and western blot were performed to explore further molecular mechanisms by which Sbno1 promoted endogenous repair of NSCs and macrophages M2 polarization. CCK8 was conducted to assess the effects of Sbno1 on NSCs proliferation. The impact of Sbno1 on NSCs apoptosis was evaluated by flow cytometry. NSCs derived from small extracellular vesicles (sEV) were obtained using ultracentrifugation and identified through nanoparticle tracking analysis (NTA) and western blot analysis. Results Our results showed that Sbno1 is highly expressed in the central nervous system, which plays a crucial role in regulating the proliferation of NSCs through the PI3k-Akt-GSK3β-Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. In addition, with overexpression of Sbno1 in the hippocampus, post-stroke behavioral scores were superior to the wild-type mice, and immunofluorescence staining revealed an increased number of newly generated neurons. sEV released by NSCs overexpressing Sbno1 inhibited neuroinflammation, which mechanistically impaired the activation of the microglial NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways. Conclusions Our studies indicate that sbno1 promotes the proliferation of NSCs and enhances endogenous repairing through the PI3k-Akt-GSK3β-Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. Additionally, NSCs overexpressing sbno1 improve ischemic stroke recovery and inhibit neuroinflammation after ischemia by sEV through the MAPK and NF-κB signaling pathways.

Protein malnutrition is a major public health concern in the developing world. The livestock products are a good source of high-quality protein, but the livestock industry is a source of pollution and one of the leading causes of climate change because the slaughtering of animals results in the accumulation of waste, offals, and several inedible body portions. The rapid increase in the human population and inadequate supply of traditional protein sources have driven a search for novel and alternative protein sources such as edible insects. This review extensively explores the nutritional value, allergenicity, and safety considerations associated with consuming common house crickets and other related insect species. A wide range of cricket protein-based products are currently available and provide some attractive options to the consumers such as protein-enriched bakery products and gluten-free bread for celiac patients. The cricket protein hydrolysates are used as preservatives to improve the stability of cheddar cheese and goat meat emulsions during storage. The risks associated with edible crickets and their products are bacteria, mycotoxins, polychlorinated dibenzodioxins, pesticide residues, heavy metals, and the presence of allergenic proteins.

Introduction: Chalcones, are a group of organic compounds containing two aromatic rings bridged by a three-carbon -a, ?; unsaturated carbonyl system. This attracted much attention because of their versatility in pharmacological profiles. Aims & Objectives: To investigate the therapeutic efficacy of a particular chalcone derivative, namely (E)-1-(4- bromophenyl)-3-(4-chlorophenyl) prop-2-ene-1-one. Place and Duration of Study: It was conducted in the Pharmacology Laboratory of the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Khyber Medical University, Peshawar, and the University of Malakand for about one year. Material & Method: This was a lab-based experimental study. The therapeutic efficacy of a chalcone derivative, (E)-1- (4-bromophenyl)-3-(4-chlorophenyl) prop-2-ene-1-one was assessed through an experiment on pain and inflammation in mice. Claisen-Schmidt condensation reaction and spectroscopic tools were used. Results: Pharmacological data proved a significant decrease in pain and inflammation as compared to Diclofenac Sodium. Reduction of 75.20% in acetic acid-induced writhing as compared to 84.4% with Diclofenac. After 3 hours, there was 67.08% reduction in edema. Conclusion: This study provides evidence that chalcone derivatives in moderation may be effective and safer than present-day drugs that address pain and inflammation. This result may need to be further clinically related to potentially translate them in different patient populations in terms of efficacy and safety.

Two groups of cotton growers participated in this study; the first, referred as “conventional cotton producers” (CCPs), continues to use traditional techniques. The second group, known as sustainable cotton producers (SCPs), adheres to practices that are socially acceptable, economically feasible, and environment friendly. This study was designed to undertake a thorough socio-economic analysis of CCP and SCP in terms of cost of production, yield, and adaptations for climate change. The data were collected from a total of 275 farming households (138 SCPs and 137 CCPs) from two districts, namely, Bahawalpur and Rajanpur, Punjab, Pakistan. The data were analyzed using the benefit–cost ratio (BCR), paired sampled t-test, and log–log regression model in SPSS. The results of the study revealed that the cost of production for SCP was significantly less than CCP and the value of BCR for SCP is higher than CCP. The results of the study also revealed that the land preparation costs, irrigation costs, and fertilizer and pesticide costs decrease the cotton yield of CCP, while land area owned and picking costs showed no significant influence on the yield of CCP. On the other hand, all cost items except fertilizer cost have a positive impact on CCP’s cotton yield. The results also indicated that SCP farmers adopted more of adaptation practices for climate change than CCP. This study concluded that SCP has significant advantages over CCP. Therefore, it is recommended that the government should prioritize incentives for SCP adoption to enhance yield and environmental sustainability in cotton farming.

Purpose: We hypothesize that lower grade gliomas (LGG) can be identified and classified into two distinct subtypes: radiologically circumscribed Lower-Grade Gliomas (cLGG) and infiltrating Lower-Grade Gliomas (iLGG) based on radiological parameters and that these two different subtypes behave differently in terms of clinical outcomes. Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study on surgical patients diagnosed with lower grade glioma over five years. Patient records and MRIs were reviewed, and neurosurgeons classified tumors into cLGG and iLGG groups. Results: From the 165 patients in our cohort, 30 (18.2%) patients were classified as cLGG and 135 (81.8%) patients were classified as iLGG Mean age in cLGG was 31.4 years while mean age in iLGG was 37.9 years (p = 0.004). Introduction: This systematic review investigated strategies to mitigate cardiotoxicity induced by anticancer medications, emphasizing exercise and pharmacological interventions. Methods: We systematically reviewed three randomized controlled trials (RCTs), one ATOPE trial, and one retrospective cohort study. Results: Among 448 patients, exercise interventions, particularly in breast cancer patients, demonstrated significant improvements in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and cardiotoxicity prevention. Pharmacological interventions, including candesartan and carvedilol, have shown potential in reducing early DOX-induced subclinical cardiotoxicity (DISC). The protective efficacy of candesartan in alleviating DISC was greater than carvedilol and the control group. Combination therapy with lisinopril and bisoprolol effectively preserved the LVEF. A retrospective cohort study demonstrated the cardioprotective potential of SGLT-2 inhibitors in reducing cardiovascular events. Conclusion: This systematic review underscores the promise of exercise and pharmacological interventions for preserving cardiac function in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. These findings have significant implications for enhancing the quality of care for cancer patients.

Objectives: To compare the efficacy of plain crepe dressing versus MgSO4 dressing in patients with cellulitis. Methods: This Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) was carried out in the General Surgery Department of PAEC General Hospital, Islamabad. Around 60 patients having cellulitis were enlisted in the study. Patients were divided into two groups by block randomization, group A (crepe dressing) and group B (MgSO4 dressing). Efficacy was determined in terms of symptom resolution after seven days of dressing. Results: A total of 60 patients, 30 in each group, were enlisted in the study, including 36 (60%) male and 24 (40%) female. The mean ages of the patients were 39.53 ± 11.22 years and 41.17 ± 13.17 years in group A and B respectively (p-value > 0.05). The efficacy was 30.0% in group A and 63.3% in group B (p-value 0.010). Conclusion: The study deduced that MgSO4 dressing is more effective than plain crepe dressing in treating patients with cellulitis. This finding has important implications for clinical practice, as it suggests that MgSO4 dressing may be a more appropriate treatment option for patients with this condition.

This Airships are lighter than air vehicles and due to their growing number of applications, they are becoming attractive for the research community. Most of the applications require an airship autonomous flight controller which needs an accurate model and state information. Usually, airship states are affected by noise and states information can be lost in the case of sensor's faults, while airship model is affected by model inaccuracies and model uncertainties. This paper presents the application of nonlinear and Bayesian estimators for estimating the states and model uncertainties of neutrally buoyant airship. It is considered that minimum sensor measurements are available, and data is corrupted with process and measurement noise. A novel lumped model uncertainty estimation approach is formulated where airship model is augmented with six extra state variables capturing the model uncertainty of the airship. The designed estimator estimates the airship model uncertainty along with its states. Nonlinear estimators, Extended Kalman Filter and Unscented Kalman Filter are designed for estimating airship attitude, linear velocities, angular velocities and model uncertainties. While Particle filter is designed for the estimation of airship attitude, linear velocities and angular velocities. Simulations have been performed using nonlinear 6-DOF simulation model of experimental airship for assessing the estimator performances. 1−𝜎 uncertainty bound and error analysis have been performed for the validation. A comparative study of the estimator's performances is also carried out.

This review article provides a detailed overview of the advanced applications of piezoelectric material in electrochemical processes. Energy harvesting, a potential topic, aims to transform ambient energy sources, including heat, light, and mechanical motion, into useful energy that would otherwise be wasted. This review focuses on an innovative and developing field that intends to connect-directly energy-harvesting devices and materials to the electrochemical systems. To regulate electrochemical processes in presence of piezoelectric materials, electrochemical reactions are dominantly influenced by produced electric charge under mechanical stress. In detail, the applications of piezoelectric material electrochemistry involved for dye degradation, hydrogen production, self-charging power cells, nanogenerator and water splitting is discussed under the umbrella of piezocatalysis. A very focused data is presented for piezo electrochemical hybrid systems from the future perspective and the potential applications for current enhancement induced by internal piezoelectric effect of the systems are also highlighted.

This review reports recent breakthroughs in piezoelectric wearable energy harvesting technology, specifically focusing on their harnessing biomechanical energy from all over the human motion. Wearable technology has significantly reshaped our daily lives, prompting a pressing demand for intelligent and novel sensing mechanisms. These wearable devices and sensors often rely on batteries, necessitating frequent replacements or recharging. Leveraging the biomechanical energy of the human body, this paper underscores piezoelectric-based wearable energy harvesting from human motion. The sources of the human body's motion energy are categorized into three distinct groups based on their roles as excitation sources for energy harvesting. Additionally, this paper reviews the latest advancements in piezoelectric wearable technology for electricity generation, explicating the fundamental operational principles, structural designs, materials, and potential applications of piezoelectric wearable energy harvesters. Furthermore, it discusses the prevailing challenges associated with this technology in a dedicated section. Concluding with recommended guidelines, this paper underscores potential opportunities and shed light on future exploration.

This paper reviews self-powered medical devices integrated with advanced energy harvesting technologies. This article aims to explain the advantages of integrating self-powered medical devices with advanced energy harvesting technologies, outlining the transformation in healthcare system and patient experience. In today's world, we focus more on consuming energy harnessed from the environment and human body. This approach lowers down our emphasis on conventional power sources like batteries, power packs etc. As a result, the devices used in the medical sector have a longer lifespan, maintain continuous functioning, and improve patient comfort and mobility. Integrating advanced energy harvesting technologies (i.e., piezoelectric, thermal, solar, and electromagnetic) with medical devices plays a pivotal role in revolutionizing the healthcare sector. But there is still some research and development needed to enhance these technologies. This paper will set out by introducing some self-powered medical devices commonly used in healthcare, followed by their advantages, benefits, and challenges that the healthcare practitioners face. This review also discusses their biocompatibility factor which is crucial to use. Then there are examples of a few advanced energy harvesting methods that are being used which include: piezoelectric, solar, thermal, triboelectric and electromagnetic. As we go further, we will come across a table consisting of a comparison between these advanced energy harvesting technologies and their examples in the healthcare sector. The last section is future perspective and the conclusion highlights the transformative potential of this integration, followed by a future recommendation for advancing this field.

It is a highly encouraging, fascinating, and challenging method to capture energy from piezoelectric materials. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the principal characteristic groups that affect energy harvesting performance and to provide recommendations for further improvement. Piezoelectric energy harvesters (PEH) can provide electricity for low-power electronic devices, which additionally possess the potential to boost self-powered, autonomous devices. The objective of this article is to provide recommendations for wind energy harvester modeling techniques. After establishing the fundamental idea of Piezoelectric Wind Energy Harvesters (PWEHs), it is next examined how well these devices function structurally and where their research stands in relation to various phenomena, including vortex-induced vibration, flutter, and galloping. A cantilever beam connected with a tip body is the typical component of a galloping piezoelectric harvester for wind energy collection. Wind energy has been turned into mechanical vibrations and ultimately into electrical power via the flutter phenomena. Fluttering-based wind energy harvesters are a new technology that provides an effective replacement for conventional wind turbines. The future development trend for PWEHs has been anticipated. Maintaining the content quality on social media Q&A platforms is pivotal for user attraction and retention. Automating post quality assessment offers benefits such as reduced moderator workload, amplified community impact, enhanced expert user recognition, and importance to expert feedback. While existing approaches for post quality mainly employ binary classification, they often lack optimal feature selection. Our research introduces an automated system that categorizes features into textual, readability, format, and community dimensions. This system integrates 20 features belonging to the aforementioned categories, with a hybrid convolutional neural network–long short-term memory deep learning model for multi-class classification. Evaluation against baseline models and state-of-the-art methods demonstrates our system’s superiority, achieving a remarkable 21–23% accuracy enhancement. Furthermore, our system produced better results in terms of other metrics such as precision, recall, and F1 score.

Abstract Background Acute hyperglycemia is considered an independent prognosticator of both in-hospital and long-term outcomes in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). This study aimed To analyze the incidence of acute hyperglycemia and its impact on the adverse in-hospital outcome in patients with STE-ACS undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods In this study, we enrolled patients presenting with STE-ACS and undergoing primary PCI at a tertiary care cardiac center. Acute hyperglycemia was defined as random plasma glucose (RBS) > 200 mg/dl at the time of presentation to the emergency room. Results Of the 4470 patients, 78.8% were males, and the mean age was 55.52 ± 11 years. In total, 39.4% (1759) were found to have acute hyperglycemia, and of these, 59% (1037) were already diagnosed with diabetes. Objectives: To evaluate the outcomes of nutritional intervention on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease parameters, and to determine the reasons for non-compliance with nutritional therapy. Method: The interventional study was conducted from May 2020 to October 2022 at the National Institute of Liver and Gastrointestinal diseases, Dow University Hospital, Ojha Campus, Karachi, and comprised patients of either gender aged 18-65 years who had been diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease based on abdominal ultrasound. Anthropometrics, physical activity level, and biochemical markers were evaluated at baseline and 6 months after the intervention that involved nutritional assessment, counselling and guidance related to dietary modification and optimisation of physical activity level. The effect of the intervention was evaluated by improvement in liver enzymes, biochemical parameters, anthropometric indices and any change in the level of physical activity. The reasons for noncompliance were also recorded. Data was analysed using SPSS 22. Results: Out of 118 subjects enrolled, 61(51.69%) completed the study. Most patients were females 81(68.6%), married 25(21.2%) and housewives 64(54.2%). There were 16(26.2%) subjects who had 3-10kg weight reduction. The reduction in serum cholesterol and triglyceride levels was not significant (p>0.05). Also, no significant change was observed in the level of physical activity compared to the baseline (p>0.05). Overall, 27(44.3%) patients showed compliance with treatment. The main reasons for noncompliance were lack of time 21(34.4) and knee joint pain 5(8.2%). Conclusion: Lifestyle modification can be beneficial for weight-loss in the management of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. However, awareness of its importance and willingness in initiating real-life practical steps with subsequent adherence to dietary therapy was found lacking in the sample studied. Plastics are becoming a pervasive pollutant in every environmental matrix, particularly in the aquatic environment. Due to increased plastic usage and its impact on human and aquatic life, microplastic (MP) pollution has been studied extensively as a global issue. The production of MP has been linked to both consumer and commercial practices. There is a significant amount of MP's that must be removed by wastewater treatment plants before they can be bioaccumulated. Many researchers have recently become interested in the possibility of eliminating MPs in wastewater treatment plants (WWTP). Many studies have analyzed MP's environmental effects, including its emission sources, distribution, and impact on the surrounding environment. The effectiveness of their removal by various wastewater treatment technologies requires a critical review that accounts for all these methods. In this review, we have covered the most useful technologies for the removal of MP during WWTP. The findings of this review should help scientists and policymakers move forward with studies, prototypes, and proposals for significant remediation impact on water quality.

Dibenzyltoluene (H0-DBT), a Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC), presents an attractive solution for hydrogen storage due to its enhanced safety and ability to store hydrogen in a concentrated liquid form. The utilization of machine learning proves essential for accurately predicting hydrogen storage classes in H0-DBT across diverse experimental conditions. This study focuses on the classification of hydrogen storage data into three classes, low-class, medium-class and high-class, based on the hydrogen storage capacity values. We introduce Hydrogen Storage Prediction with the Support Vector Machine (HSP-SVM) model to predict the hydrogen storage classes accurately. The performance of the proposed HSP-SVM model was investigated using various techniques, which included 5-Fold Cross Validation (5-FCV), Resubstitution Validation (RV), and Holdout Validation (HV). The accuracy of the HV approach for the low, medium, and high class was 98.5%, 97%, and 98.5%, respectively. The overall accuracy of HV approach reached 97% with a miss clarification rate of 3%, whereas 5-FCV and RV possessed an overall accuracy of 93.9% with a miss clarification rate of 6.1%. The results reveal that the HV approach is optimal for predicting the hydrogen storage classes accurately.

Skull base chrodomas are slow growing neoplasms usually located along the midline. They display a locally invasive nature with possibilities of extracranial metastasis. Presentation is usually late and depends upon the location and extent of the tumour. Management aims at gross total resection via open microsurgical or endoscopic approach followed by adjuvant radiotherapy. Prognosis may be good for the classical and chondroid subtypes but remains poor for de-differentiated type. Keywords: Chordoma, skull base, surgical management, radiotherapy.

Introduction: - Urolithiasis is a widespread health problem. The objective of this research was to contrast the use of shock waves extracorporeals lithotripsies’ (ESWL) versus ureterorenoscopy (URS) for the proximal ureteric stones treatment. Ureteric stone is a common disease of urinary system in Pakistan. Despite ongoing success in endourological stone treatment, question about optimal management of proximal ureteric stone still remains debatable amongst urologist; therefore this study is being performed to find an appropriate and effective tool to treat ureteric stones. Objective: - For patients with large proximal ureteric gallstones, our goal was to compare the advantages of ureterorenoscopy with shock wave extracorporeal lithotripsy (ESWL) (10–15 mm). Settings: The Karachi-based Sindh Hospital of Urology & Transplantation's Urology Department. Duration: 6 months from 28-01-2022 to 28-07-2022 Design: Randomized control trial Subject and Methods: Sixty people were enrolled in the trial, all of whom had a single, radio-opaque stone in the proximal ureter detected by IVU. Thirty patients received ESWL and thirty received URS, both at random. After 3 weeks, x-ray KUB was used to monitor patients in both groups. A computerized pre-structured proforma was used for all data collection. Result: - The victims were 27.58 6.20 years old on aggregate.There were 38(63.3%) male and 22(36.7%) female. Efficacy of URS treatment was significantly high as compare to ESWL [93.33% vs. 60%; p 0.002]. Conclusion: - This research shows that the results support the hypothesis that URS is more effective for proximal ureteric stone clearance than ESWL.

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of four different herbicides, namely Glyphosate, Paraquat, Dicamba, and S-metolachlor, in controlling post-emergence weeds in cotton fields. The experiment was conducted in Layyah, and the selected weed species included Pigweed, Canada thistle, barnyardgrass, Field bindweed, Purslane, Bermuda grass, Green amaranth, and Puncture vine. A randomized complete block design was employed, with four treatments and four replications within each treatment. One-meter quadrates were randomly placed within each replication to collect data on weed abundance. The recommended herbicide doses were applied, including 3 liters per hectare of Glyphosate, 1 liter per hectare of Paraquat, 1 liter per hectare of Dicamba, and 1.5 liters per hectare of S-metolachlor. The effectiveness of the herbicides was observed at regular intervals, noting the time taken for visible weed control and weed mortality. Data were collected for three time points to assess the herbicides' long-term efficacy. Data analysis revealed variations in the effectiveness of the herbicides on different weed species. Treatment T3 (Dicamba) consistently exhibited the highest control, while T4 (S-metolachlor) showed the lowest effectiveness. Mean weed densities across the treatments indicated significant reductions in pigweed, Canada thistle, barnyardgrass, and field bindweed. However, no statistically significant differences were observed among the treatments for purslane, Bermuda grass, green amaranth, and puncture vine. These findings provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of different herbicides in controlling post-emergence weeds in cotton fields. The results can inform farmers and agricultural professionals in selecting appropriate herbicides for effective weed management. Further research is warranted to evaluate the long-term effects and environmental considerations associated with the herbicides. The study highlights the importance of multiple data collection time points to assess the sustained effectiveness of herbicide treatments.

The intention of this research is to analyze the actual use of educational app by Chinese students for learning purpose. Based on DeLone & McLean (D&M) this study proposes and tests a research model which analyzes the actual use of educational apps using data collected from the 357 Chinese students. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was applied to examine the hypothesis. Findings specify that information quality, system quality, service quality, mobile self-efficacy, and personal innovativeness is considerably associated to intentions to use educational app which eventually influences actual usage of educational apps. Additionally, trust in educational apps strengthens the connection between intentions to use educational apps and actual use of educational apps by students for learning purposes. However, the perceived risk indicated an insignificant association between intention to use educational apps and actual use of educational apps. This study contributes to DeLone & McLean (D&M) model by examing the moderating role of perceived risk, trust in an educational app.

This paper provides a comprehensive review of the recent progress made in energy harvesting systems for wearable technology. An energy-harvesting system would be a useful strategy to address the issue of powering wearable electronic devices. This review presents different wearable energy harvesting methods based on the human body's heat and mechanical energy. To achieve continuous operation and high performance, reduce the requirement for external sources of energy, and enhance the lifespan of wearable devices, the invention of a sustainable and compatible power supply is required. In the human body, heat and mechanical motions are the two reliable and readily available energy sources. This study highlights the most recent research and advancements in energy harvesting from the human's mechanical motion and heat source. This article provides a detailed overview of the different wearable energy harvesters, their fabrication, working, and output results, which include piezoelectric, electrostatic, triboelectric, electromagnetic, thermoelectric, solar and hybrid wearable energy harvesters. The second part defines wearable energy harvesting using smart systems and artificial intelligence technology. Then the comparison of these energy harvesters is analyzed. Hybrid wearable energy harvesters provide the maximum power densities because they use two combined energy conversions. The advantages, limitations, and future perspectives of wearable energy harvesting technology are also discussed. Lastly, the wearable energy harvesters' market, and general developing and manufacturing cost of each wearable device is also presented functioning as a point of reference to comprehend the cost factors that are taken into account during the development and manufacturing processes.

Rainfall-Runoff modeling is among the classical applications of hydrology. This paper examines the results of 3 hydrologic approaches, particularly Clark Model, Nash Model, and Geomorphic Instantaneous Unit Hydrograph Model. Assumptions are forwarded for the long run use of the Rawalpindi Division, Pakistan’s Small Dam Organization. The catchment of Shahpur Dam was an area under consideration for the study. The Digital elevation model (DEM) was implicated to measure the Nash and Clark model’s geomorphic parameters. Using ArcGIS, catchment satellite imagery was processed to estimate geomorphological parameters. The models have been applied to multiple storm cases. Geographic Instantaneous Unit Hydrograph (GIUH) model gave direct surface runoff hydrograph, whereas, on measured precipitation excess rainfall hyetograph was obtained. Four types of statistical parameters, namely efficiency of the model (EFF), percentage defect in time to attain peak (PETP), percent defect in attained peak Q (PEP), percentage defect in runoff rate (PEV) are used to check model’s efficiency. The comparison is done between the findings of Clark and Nash GIUH models and the original Clark and Nash models. It was observed that GIUH models are equally good even when optimization is done for Clark and Nash model’s parameters. Since the results obtained from these models are more credible, so, these models can be used in ungauged catchments to estimate the hydrographs.

Placement of pedicle screw in the subaxial cervical spine is a challenging and complex technique but provides significant biomechanical advantages. Despite its potential complications, the role and use of cervical pedicle screw (CPS) are growing. A literature review of the significant articles on applying pedicle screws in the subaxial cervical spine was done (articles between 1994 and 2020). Furthermore, our center´s experience of 15 years related to CPS is also discussed in this study. Transpedicular instrumentation in the subaxial cervical spine requires profound anatomical knowledge and meticulous surgical technique. This technique provides superior biomechanical stability compared to the other cervical fixation techniques. Pull-out strength of CPS is twice as compared to the lateral mass screws. There have been numerous variations in the technique of CPS, varying from open techniques to minimally invasive and the use of biomodels and templates during this procedure. Clinically, CPS can be used in different cervical trauma situations, such as fracture–dislocations, floating lateral mass, and fractures associated with ankylosing spondylitis. Despite the possibility of neurovascular injury due to the proximity of the vertebral artery, spinal cord, and spinal nerves to the cervical pedicles, scientific literature, and our center × s experience show low risk, and this technique can be performed safely. CPS placement is a safe procedure, and it has great potential in the management of cervical spine trauma.

This study details the irradiation of pure (99.995%) and immaculate metallic Zinc using Nd: YAG laser (1064 nm, 10 mJ, 9–14 ns). The influence and impact of multiple laser shots on the formation of microstructures and crystal structure orientations is assessed. Arrays of ablated craters are machined on the whole surface of the target to probe the electrical and topographical characteristics of laser-treated surfaces. Irradiated samples are examined by multiple characterizing techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and a four-point probe for electrical conductivity measurements. SEM and AFM analysis exhibited the formation of laser-induced ripple structures with periodicity sheerly dependent on laser shots. A comparison of surface topography of the virgin and treated samples disclosed a pronounced modification in surface texture. The XRD patterns of laser shined targets indicate no momentous structural change in the crystal structure, whereas the measurements on the electrical conductivity of the irradiated surfaces exhibit an exponential descending trend with an augmentation in laser shots.

The term neoaortoiliac system (NAIS) was coined by Clagett in 1993 to describe the use of the deep veins in the thigh to replace the aorta and iliac arteries in the setting of graft infection. Since that time, the NAIS procedure has been used to treat a wide array of both infectious and noninfectious conditions affecting the aortoiliac segment. In this article, we present a 10-step description of the NAIS procedure to treat an aortoduodenal fistula in a patient with an infected endovascular aneurysm repair.

Abstract DC–DC converters has significant role in the applied power electronic systems, distributed power systems, computers, home appliances and communication equipment. A converter must remain within the specified range of operation. The main goal of this paper is to discuss the nonlinear behavior of forward converter and highlighted the application of the 0-1 test by applying it on the forward converter. As forward converter may contains electronic components, which cause instability in the system. So, it is necessary to understand its behavior when specifications of components are changed. To study chaotic behavior, 0-1 test will be applied on the forward converter, which is a novel technique outperform in unearthing the subtle chaotic behavior in deterministic dynamical systems. The forward converter goes from period-1, period-2, period-4 and finally become chaotic when the load resistance is varied. This variation in the behavior of the forward converter are analysis through 0-1 test for chaos. Moreover, time series plot, phase portrait and Bifurcation diagram for forward converter is also drawn for the validation of results obtained from 0-1 test. Test algorithm is applied via MATLAB and simulation of forward converter via MultiSim by varying its load resistance.

Introduction: The neurological impairment of survivors after ischemic stroke poses a serious risk to their quality of life and health. Effective therapeutic options are still lacking. Neural stem cells (NSCs) promote neurogenesis via secreted extracellular vesicles (NSC-EVs), which would be a potential therapeutic option, but the insufficient quantity of NSC-EVs in vivo restrains clinical application. Buyang Huanwu Decoction (BHD), a classic traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) decoction, is promising to alleviate neurological impairment after ischemic stroke. It was speculated that BHD might promote neurological recovery through the NSC-EVs.Methods: The medicated plasma of BHD (MP-BHD) was prepared to precondition NSCs and isolate EVs (BHD-NSC-EVs). Middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) models and primary NSCs were administered to evaluate the therapeutic effect. Next-generation sequencing was performed to explore the mechanism.Results: The BHD-NSC-EVs more significantly accelerated neurological recovery after MCAO and promoted NSCs proliferation and differentiation than BHD and NSC-EVs alone. MP-BHD enhanced the largescale generation of BHD-NSC-EVs, which encapsulated functional miRNA and may play critical roles in neurogenesis.Discussion: In replacing BHD or NSCs, the preconditioned NSC-EVs present a more efficient therapeutic strategy for ischemic stroke. Based on the clinical efficacy of TCM, the preconditioning of NSC-derived EVs via the MP of TCM herbs would presents a newly promising therapeutic strategy for neurological diseases.

This paper provides a short review of sustainable hybrid energy harvesting and its applications. The potential usage of self-powered wireless sensor (WSN) systems has recently drawn a lot of attention to sustainable energy harvesting. The objective of this research is to determine the potential of hybrid energy harvesters to help single energy harvesters overcome their energy deficiency problems. The major findings of the study demonstrate how hybrid energy harvesting, which integrates various energy conversion technologies, may increase power outputs, and improve space utilization efficiency. Hybrid energy harvesting involves collecting energy from multiple sources and converting it into electrical energy using various transduction mechanisms. By properly integrating different energy conversion technologies, hybridization can significantly increase power outputs and improve space utilization efficiency. Here, we present a review of recent progress in hybrid energy-harvesting systems for sustainable green energy harvesting and their applications in different fields. This paper starts with an introduction to hybrid energy harvesting, showing different hybrid energy harvester configurations, i.e., the integration of piezoelectric and electromagnetic energy harvesters; the integration of piezoelectric and triboelectric energy harvesters; the integration of piezoelectric, triboelectric, and electromagnetic energy harvesters; and others. The output performance of common hybrid systems that are reported in the literature is also outlined in this review. Afterwards, various potential applications of hybrid energy harvesting are discussed, showing the practical attainability of the technology. Finally, this paper concludes by making recommendations for future research to overcome the difficulties in developing hybrid energy harvesters. The recommendations revolve around improving energy conversion efficiency, developing advanced integration techniques, and investigating new hybrid configurations. Overall, this study offers insightful information on sustainable hybrid energy harvesting together with quantitative information, numerical findings, and useful research recommendations that progress and promote the use of this technology.

The impact of urbanization on vegetation is poorly studied in sparsely vegetated desert steppe-type vegetation. This study investigates the spatial and temporal impacts of urbanization over 40 years on plant species in Dhofar’s mountains, plains, and bay areas. Satellite images covering 1978 to 2018 were used as Remote Sensing (RS) tools, along with Geographic Information System (GIS) techniques, to detect changes in vegetation patterns. The results showed an increase in urban development in Dhofar over the 40 years, reaching 173.3%, which contributed to the decline in vegetation cover of 36.4%. However, both percentages indicate that other factors, including climate change, have also impacted the vegetation. It was found that air temperature in the study area increased from 1978 to 2018 by 0.8°C, whereas precipitation decreased by 104 mm. The results also indicate a 23.2% and 18.5% reduction in plant species in coastal areas and mountains, respectively, between 1978 and 2018 due to the increase in urbanization. This warns of the impact of urban expansion on rare plant species in the governorate, as 48 plant species only found in Dhofar are threatened with extinction due to construction and urbanization. We recommend making the biodiversity of Dhofar a priority in developing any urban projects, especially at sites that house rare species.

Two wheeled Self-Balancing Segway, which works on the principle of inverted pendulum, is naturally unstable, nonlinear, and under actuated system. Self-Balancing means the capability of the Segway to balance itself on two wheels without falling. Therefore, the system has to be controlled to reach stability in this unstable state. The two wheeled Segway is considered important due to its applications in daily life. In this paper, a hybrid control system is proposed for upward stabilization and control of two wheeled Segway. The control design approaches proposed in the literature for Segway result in a large control effort which requires high torque causing the saturation of actuator field and ultimately failure of the controller. Controller designed using the proposed approach is able to reduce the control effort by 64% compared to the ones available in literature. Moreover, controller designed through the proposed approach is able to improve disturbance rejection for both pitch and yaw angles of the Segway. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach over the ones available in the literature.

The process of using dielectric fluid combined with different types of powders to improve the output of the machined surface is known as powder-mixed electrical discharge machining (PMEDM). In the electrical discharge machining (EDM) industry, this procedure is quickly gaining popularity. This investigation's goal is to ascertain whether tantalum carbide (TaC) powder-mixed dielectric fluid can reduce tool wear during the subsequent EDM machining of stainless-steel material. Two different EDM medium's tool wear rates and mathematical models were investigated during the machining. TaC powder at a concentration of 25.0 g/L in kerosene dielectric fluid was used for the machining process. The peak current, pulse on time, and pulse off time were the machining variables used. These variables' effects on the copper based EDMed electrode tools TWR were identified. The TWR for stainless steel (SUS 304) during electrical discharge machining was reduced by 37.9% when TaC powder additive was used, according to the results, demonstrating the effectiveness of this alternative method for reducing tool wear. The most influential factor, according to the tool wear ratio model for EDM with TaC powder additive (TWRPMEDM), is current, followed by pulse on-time and pulse off-time.

The increased sensation error between the surroundings and the driver is a major problem in driving simulators, resulting in unrealistic motion cues. Intelligent control schemes have to be developed to provide realistic motion cues to the driver. The driver's body model incorporates the effects of vibrations on the driver's health, comfort, perception, and motion sickness, and most of the current research on motion cueing has not considered these factors. This article proposes a novel optimal motion cueing algorithm that utilizes the driver's body model in conjunction with the driver's perception model to minimize the sensation error. Moreover, this article employs H∞ control in place of the linear quadratic regulator to optimize the quadratic cost function of sensation error. As compared to state of the art, we achieve decreased sensation error in terms of small root-mean-square difference (70%, 61%, and 84% decrease in case of longitudinal acceleration, lateral acceleration, and yaw velocity, respectively) and improved coefficient of cross-correlation (3% and 1% increase in case of longitudinal and lateral acceleration, respectively).

This study determines Lie point symmetries for differential equations that mathematically express a time-dependent thin film fluid flow with internal heating and thermal radiation to construct invariants. These invariants are used in the derivation of similarity transformations for reducing the flow equations into systems of equations that possess only one independent variable. The homotopy analysis method is employed to analytically solve the reduced system of equations. The new similarity transformations and the corresponding analytical solutions comprehensively consider flow dynamics and heat transfer under multiple physical conditions. These solutions are presented graphically to demonstrate the effects of variations in the radiative heat flux with internal heating on the flow dynamics and heat transfer properties. Moreover, the variations in fluid dynamics are described graphically using the obtained analytical homotopy solution under different values of the unsteadiness parameter and Prandtl number.

The present study aimed to prepare solid lipid-based nanoparticles (SLNs) using Precirol® ATO 5 as solid lipid and Poloxamer 188 and Tween 80 as surfactant and co-surfactant respectively, and SLNs-derived gel for sustained delivery, enhanced in-vitro cytotoxicity, enhanced cellular uptake of 5-FU and enhanced permeation of 5-FU across the skin. The 5-FU-loaded SLNs were prepared by the hot melt encapsulation method and converted into SLN-derived gel using a gelling agent (Carbopol 940). The 5-FU-loaded SLNs had a particle size in the range of 76.82±1.48 to 327±4.46 nm, zeta potential between -11.3±2.11 and -28.4±2.40 mV, and entrapment efficiency (%) in range of 63.46±1.13 and 76.08±2.42. The FTIR analysis depicted that there was no chemical interaction between 5-FU and formulation components. Differential scanning calorimetric analysis showed thermal stability of 5-FU in the nanoparticles and powdered X-ray diffraction analysis revealed successful incorporation of 5-FU in nanoparticles. The in-vitro release study of 5-FU-loaded SLNs showed biphasic release behavior with initial burst release followed by sustained release over 48 hr. The 5-FU-loaded SLNs showed a greater cytotoxic effect on skin melanoma (B16F10 cells) and squamous cell carcinoma (A-431 cells) as compared to free 5-FU drug solution after 48 hr. Flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy displayed enhanced quantitative and qualitative cellular uptake of SLNs. The SLNs formulation showed acceptable safety and biocompatible profile after an acute toxicity study in Wistar rats. Moreover, ex-vivo permeation studies depicted 2.13±0.076 folds enhanced flux of 5-FU-loaded SLN derived gel compared to 5-FU plain gel, and skin retention studies revealed target efficiency (%) 2.54±0.03 of 5-FU-loaded SLN derived gel compared to 5-FU plain gel.

Objective: To build a comprehensive brain tumour database that will allow us to analyse in detail the prevalence, demographics, and outcomes of the disease in paediatric, adolescent, and young adult age groups. Method: A national cross-sectional study was conducted at 32 centres, and data regarding patient demographics and brain tumours were collected. This data was then stratified based on age groups, healthcare sectors, socioeconomic status, tumour types, and surgical outcomes. Result: Most of the patients who were diagnosed with brain tumours belonged to a lower socioeconomic background and went to public sector hospitals. More males were diagnosed with and treated for brain tumours in the paediatric, adolescent, and young adult populations. The most common tumour in the paediatric population was medulloblastoma (23.7%) and the most common tumour in the adolescent (27.8%) and young adult population (34.7%) was glioma. Significant improvement in KPS scores were seen for: craniopharyngioma (p = 0.001), meningioma (p < 0.0005) and pituitary adenoma (p < 0.0005) Conclusion: This study shows that in all three age groups, there was a greater prevalence in males. Most of the patients belonged to a lower-middle-income class background and most patients presented to public sector hospitals. Greater knowledge of these parameters unique to each age group is the key to understanding and alleviating the burden of disease. Cancer registries, specifically brain tumour registries that keep up-to-date records of these patients, are essential to identify and keep track of these unique parameters to advance medical research and treatment strategies, ultimately lowering the disease burden. Objective: To examine the effect of distance travelled for brain tumour surgery on patient outcomes in an LMIC. Methods: Data were collected as part of the Pakistan Brain Tumour Epidemiology Study (PBTES) for brain tumour patients who underwent surgery in 2019. Mapping software was used to calculate the distance travelled by each patient from their primary address to the hospital. This was analysed in correlation with outcomes (change in KPS score, current status) and demographic variables. Results: Of 2366 patients, the median distance travelled across the country was 104 km (IQR: 9.07 - 304). Only 970 (41%) patients had access to brain tumour surgical care within 50 km of their primary address. A total of 372 (15.7%) patients requiring brain tumour surgery had to travel more than 500 km to reach their primary care hospital. Recently, the need of high living standards and developments in modern technology have significantly increased the usage of throwaway glass products. The use of these waste glass products in the production of construction materials (especially bricks) is ultimately very wholesome approach towards sustainable development. In this study, wasted glass up to 20% by weight was added to observe its impacts on bricks. The bricks containing powder glass were burnt along with ordinary bricks (with no powder glass) in same kiln and under same condition (type of fuel, temperature, duration etc.). The results illustrated that the properties of bricks vividly improved such as areal density, water absorption and efflorescence. The 20% increase of waste glass in the brick samples resulted in 14% decrease in areal density. The addition of fine powder glass filled the pores and reduced porosity of bricks. The substantial reduction in water absorption of 26.14% were observed with 20% addition of waste glass content. Also efflorescence was less in specimens having less quantity of waste glass burnt at higher temperatures. The present study presented a comprehensive analysis of waste glass as a mixing component for producing light weight sustainable bricks with improved water absorption properties.

A multifaceted, holistic approach to identifying potential predictors is needed to eradicate workplace bullying. The current study investigated the impact of an unfavourable organisational climate that plays a role in breeding workplace bullying (social stressors). The present study also postulated that individual personality differences (Type A and Type B personality) mediate between a caring climate and workplace bullying. Similarly, the interaction between workplace bullying and personality impacts PTSD. We also checked the role of workplace bullying as a mediator between a caring climate and PTSD. This research tested all the proposed hypotheses (N = 298), and the study was conducted in Pakistan. The data is analysed using the two-step partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) procedure. The first part assesses the measurement model, while in the second step, the structural model is evaluated. The results supported all the proposed hypotheses of this study. Type A behaviour moderated the caring climate—person-related bullying relationship, whereas it did not moderate the caring climate—work-related bullying in the suggested direction. Type A behaviour is moderated for both types of bullying and PTSD. Results also show significant indirect effects of a caring climate on PTSD through workplace bullying. This study will contribute theoretically to filling the literature gap on studies of climate-bullying and bullying-stress using contingency factors.

Objective: To compare the frequency of sore throat and cough after prophylactic Lignocaine versus Beclomethasone in adults undergoing tracheal intubation. Study Design: Prospective longitudinal study. Place and Duration of Study: Anesthesia Department, Combined Military Hospital, Lahore Pakistan, from Jun to Sep 2019. Methodology: A total of 180 patients of both gender scheduled for elective surgery under general anaesthesia with endo-tracheal intubation were recruited for this study. Ninety patients of Group-A received Lignocaine, while 90 patients of Group-B received Beclomethasone. After 24 hours of the procedure, sore throat and cough were assessed from both groups and noted. Results: The age range in this study was from 18 to 50 years, with a mean age of 34.22±5.31 years in Group -A while 36.57±7.22 years in Group-B. Sore throat was seen in 22(24.4%) patients in Lignocaine-Group (Group-A) as compared to 9(10.0%) patients in Beclomethasone-Group (Group-B) (p=0.010). Cough was seen in 18(20.0%) patients in the Lignocaine-Group as compared to 5(5.6%) patients in the Beclomethasone-Group (p=0.003). Conclusion: This study concluded that spraying Beclomethasone on the endotracheal tube reduces the frequency and severity of postoperative sore throat and cough in patients given general anaesthesia with endotracheal intubation.

OBJECTIVES The aim was to find the difference between government and private hospitals at the Mardan secondary level for sehat sahulat card effect on patients for their selection of hospital, dates, and time issues for elective and emergency cases with department facilities. METHODOLOGY This quantitative cross-sectional study was conducted to see the difference between the government and private hospitals for sehat the sahulat program effect on patients. Patients care is important on both sides but to find out the difference where more work should be done to achieve universal global health under the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for the benefit of their people’s health. RESULTS Total patients 10112 visited District Head Quarter (DHQ) hospital from February 2021 to February 2022 while 5672 were in a private hospital in which the ratio for gynaecology was 19 % (854 pts. DHQ) and 31% (1652) private hospital. In hospitals the monitoring of patient is usually done manually with the help of nursing staff for 24 x 7. The availability of nursing staff to monitor the health of critically ill patients or new born infant is very difficult task and requires a lot of man power. In case, of absence or delay the health of patient can become critical and can be fatal. In order to solve this many wireless technologies have been proposed to monitor the patient’s condition using different sensors but these wireless schemes are harmful for patients/infants and can even interface with medical devices. In order to develop hospital friendly monitoring system, Li-Fi based health monitoring-based system has been proposed which measure the heart rate, temperature and motion in case of infants and the data is continuously displayed on LCD. In case of any abnormalities, the relevant staff will be notified.

A rapidly expanding global population and a sizeable portion of it that is aging are the main causes of the significant increase in healthcare costs. Healthcare in terms of monitoring systems is undergoing radical changes, making it possible to gauge or monitor the health conditions of people constantly, while also removing some minor possibilities of going to the hospital. The development of automated devices that are either attached to organs or the skin, continually monitoring human activity, has been made feasible by advancements in sensor technologies, embedded systems, wireless communication technologies, nanotechnologies, and miniaturization being ultra-thin, lightweight, highly flexible, and stretchable. Wearable sensors track physiological signs together with other symptoms such as respiration, pulse, and gait pattern, etc., to spot unusual or unexpected events. Help may therefore be provided when it is required. In this study, wearable sensor-based activity-monitoring systems for people are reviewed, along with the problems that need to be overcome. In this review, we have shown smart detecting and versatile wearable electrical sensing mediums in healthcare. We have compiled piezoelectric-, electrostatic-, and thermoelectric-based wearable sensors and their working mechanisms, along with their principles, while keeping in view the different medical and healthcare conditions and a discussion on the application of these biosensors in human health. A comparison is also made between the three types of wearable energy-harvesting sensors: piezoelectric-, electrostatic-, and thermoelectric-based on their output performance. Finally, we provide a future outlook on the current challenges and opportunities.

Abstract An electronically beam‐steerable antenna (BSA) is envisioned. The presented BSA is a possible solution to overthrow the limitations inherent to phased antenna arrays. The design consists of a gap coupling inset feed rectangular patch (driven element) and 3 × 1 passive parasitic patches deployed on both sides of the driven patch. Prototype having 20 × 20 mm dimensions is printed on Rogers® RT/duroid®5870. Four switches are used to load the reactive impedance on parasitic patches, which in turn, change the phases of surface current on parasitic elements and the driven element. Based on the different ON and OFF configuration of switches in parasitic array elements, the main beam is steered along with different directions. The simulated results show that the design can operate between 26.8 and 30.3 GHz a wide impedance bandwidth |S11|< −10 dB (12.5%) with a peak gain of 8.9 dBi and wide 3‐dB scanning angle that is, −37° to 156° in the azimuth plane. The exhibited performance of BSA with favourable characteristics, such as wideband, adequate gain, wide‐angle beam switching, and low profile renders the BSA a good candidate for 5G millimetre wave handheld devices. Moreover, to corroborate the performance, the design is fabricated, and experimental measurements were performed. Congruence is observed between the experimentally measured and computationally simulated results. The simulated results of spherical coverage analysis of BSA with the integration of smartphone form factor are also presented.

Summary: Background: Early death after cancer surgery is higher in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) compared with in high-income countries, yet the impact of facility characteristics on early postoperative outcomes is unknown. The aim of this study was to examine the association between hospital infrastructure, resource availability, and processes on early outcomes after cancer surgery worldwide. Methods: A multimethods analysis was performed as part of the GlobalSurg 3 study—a multicentre, international, prospective cohort study of patients who had surgery for breast, colorectal, or gastric cancer. The primary outcomes were 30-day mortality and 30-day major complication rates. Potentially beneficial hospital facilities were identified by variable selection to select those associated with 30-day mortality. Adjusted outcomes were determined using generalised estimating equations to account for patient characteristics and country-income group, with population stratification by hospital. Findings: Between April 1, 2018, and April 23, 2019, facility-level data were collected for 9685 patients across 238 hospitals in 66 countries (91 hospitals in 20 high-income countries; 57 hospitals in 19 upper-middle-income countries; and 90 hospitals in 27 low-income to lower-middle-income countries). The availability of five hospital facilities was inversely associated with mortality: ultrasound, CT scanner, critical care unit, opioid analgesia, and oncologist. A new approach to cater abrupt gain switching at boundaries of steady-state trim points in Conventional Gain Scheduling (CGS) applied to aircraft flight control applications. The primary purpose of this research is to improve the stability properties of a supermaneuverable aircraft during different mission task of flight envelope, controlled using a gain scheduled approach. An output feedback based on Linear Quadratic Integral (LQI) controller is proposed which is able to guarantee stability and performance of the required task of the entire flight envelope. The results are demonstrated using comparison of pilot control maneuvers using CGS with proposed scheduling scheme for angular rates control by keeping states and control input contraints under consideration.

Three newly designed pyrochlore oxides, Eu2Tm2O7 (Tm = Hf, Sn, Zr), are analyzed for their magnetic, optical and electronic properties using ab-initio calculations within the context of density functional theory (DFT). We can refer these compounds as direct bandgap materials because there is a very slight difference between the height of bands at the Γ- and M-point. It is observed that bandgap engineering can be performed by replacing Hf with Sn and Zr. It is observed from total density of states (TDOS) plots that shape and height of curves is not the same in spin up and spin down channels, showing significant magnetic moment in these compounds. It is evident from magnetic properties that a major portion of total magnetic moment (mtot) comes from Eu-atoms. In all compounds, the magnetic moment of O, Hf, Sn and Zr atoms is negative, whereas the magnetic moment of Eu-atoms is positive, showing their antiparallel arrangement. In both spin channels, significant absorption of the incoming photons is also shown by these compounds in the ultraviolet (UV) region. We can conclude on the basis of Rω that these compounds can be utilized in applications such as anti-reflecting coatings. These compounds are potential candidates for photovoltaic applications, such as solar cells, due to efficient absorption of incoming photons in visible and UV regions.

Over the past few years, pharmaceutical and biomedical areas have made the most astounding accomplishments in the field of medicine, diagnostics and drug delivery. Nanotechnology-based tools have played a major role in this. The implementation of this multifaceted nanotechnology concept encourages the advancement of innovative strategies and materials for improving patient compliance. The plausible usage of nanotechnology in drug delivery prompts an extension of lipid-based nanocarriers with a special reference to barriers such as the skin and blood–brain barrier (BBB) that have been discussed in the given manuscript. The limited permeability of these two intriguing biological barriers restricts the penetration of active moieties through the skin and brain, resulting in futile outcomes in several related ailments. Lipid-based nanocarriers provide a possible solution to this problem by facilitating the penetration of drugs across these obstacles, which leads to improvements in their effectiveness. A special emphasis in this review is placed on the composition, mechanism of penetration and recent applications of these carriers. It also includes recent research and the latest findings in the form of patents and clinical trials in this field. The presented data demonstrate the capability of these carriers as potential drug delivery systems across the skin (referred to as topical, dermal and transdermal delivery) as well as to the brain, which can be exploited further for the development of safe and efficacious products.
