Chicory (Cichorium intybus L.) is a low-height perennial or biennial herb from the family of Asteraceae. Investigation of different in vitro regeneration strategies of Cichorium intybus and increasing the number of secondary metabolites in vitro regenerated plant samples were the aims of the research. Callus and plant regenerations were achieved in basal plant growth media supplemented with plant growth regulators (PGRs). Whole plant regeneration was carried out by direct organogenesis from leaf explant in Murashige and Skoog (MS) and B5 media supplemented with naphthalene acetic (NAA) acid and indole-3-butyric acid (IBA). The highest callus quantity was produced in MS medium supplemented with indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and benzyl amino purine (BAP). The combination and concentrations of PGRs used in MS and B5 media not only provided root and shoot formation with callus, but also caused a change in the amounts of phenolic components. In addition, some PGRs used caused an increase in the number of phenolic compounds in callus and shoots developed from the leaf explant. When plants that grow in vitro and in vivo are compared with each other, it has been determined that plants grown in vivo contain higher amounts of some phenolic compounds. In vivo and in vitro samples were extracted in ethanol/water (80:20 v/v). The analysis of phenolic compounds (caftaric, chicoric, and chlorogenic acids and esculin) were performed in high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and inulin was in UV spectrophotometry. The caftaric and chlorogenic acids and inulin concentrations were higher in vivo samples than that in vitro. Contrarily, esculin, and chicoric acid concentrations were higher in the in vitro regenerated samples. The higher concentration of valuable compounds in the in vitro regenerated samples, especially in callus tissue, gives hope for large-scale production of secondary metabolites under laboratory conditions.

The green chemistry method for nanocatalyst synthesis along with environmentally feasible non-edible sources are promising alternatives to fossil fuels. The current study focuses on the synthesis of copper oxide phyto-nanocatalyst and the identification of a new renewable feedstock, Citrullus colocynthis, to reduce environmental pollution. The highest biodiesel yield (95%) was obtained under optimum conditions of a 1:8 oil-to-methanol ratio and reaction temperature of 85 °C for 120 min with a 0.365 wt% catalyst concentration. The phyto-nanocatalyst was synthesized using seed oil cake after extracting oil with the salt of copper (copper oxide). The catalyst was then subjected to various analyses, namely, EDX, FT-IR, SEM, and XRD. The catalyst was proved to be efficient and effective after being reused five times and still there was a very small difference in biodiesel yield. All the analyses also show sustainable and stable results. Thus, copper oxide phyto-nanocatalyst with non-edible Citrullus colocynthis proved to be highly effective, sustainable, and a better alternative source to the future biodiesel industry.

Because of global warming and decreased river flows, all of Pakistan's provinces, especially large parts of Sind and Baluchistan, have been experiencing water shortages for decades. Based on such climatic changes several management techniques have been recommended to cope through drought stress. This study is focused on the assumption that seed soaking of Triticum aestivumL. at low (4 °C) and high (80 °C) temperature (thermopriming) with exogenous spray of alpha-Tocopherol (150 mol/L) will increase seedling formation and crop production through drought stress of 5 and 10 days recommended to persuade resistivity in test species. This study also describes resistance mechanism of drought both in physiological and biochemical activities. Results concluded that chlorophyll a & b, carotenoids, sugar, protein and proline (µmg/g) contents were detected maximum in case of T1 (control) and T5 (5 days drought + 4 °C + α-Tocopherol) enhancing growth and osmolytes component in plant whereas; antioxidant enzymes bitterly respond under induced high drought stress and growth regulator at p≤0.05. The study showed the degree of resistance to various drought stressors best suited in agricultural country (Pakistan) signifying successful demonstration of priming method with the application of α-Tocopherol as growth regulator will help agricultural industries improve seed quality and germination rate.

In classification and identification of plant species, palyno morphological character has remain helpful for plant taxonomist. The aim to investigation this study was to identify the characteristic features of Asteraceae and Poaceae family member collected from lower Himalayas of Pakistan. Light microscope and Scanning electron microscope were used for feature study of allergenic pollen. Our study includes 10 species of Asteraceae and Poaceae family. The most dominant shape of pollen was Oblate-spheroidal, Prolate-Spheroidal, Prolate and Suboblate shape of pollen. Quantitative character of pollen includes maximum pollen diameter found in Dichanthium annulatum (46.0 μm) and minimum polar axis pollen diameter found in Parthenium hysterophorous (16.0 μm). Similarly highest value of P/E ratio was noted in Cenchrus echinatus (1.05) and smallest value of P/E ratio was observed in Erigeron bonariensis (0.88). Poaceae family member were monoporate. Character feature of exine sculpturing include Microechinate, granulate, echinate, conical base, lacunae Nanogammate, Aerolate-Scabratre, Verrucate, like variation found in exine of both family member. Highest value of pollen fertility was observed in P. hysterophorous 93%, Similarly maximum value of pollen sterility was noted in E. bonariensis and Brachiaria reptans 24%. This investigation provides the characteristic feature of allergenic pollen species and help to arrange them in define class. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: Pollen has affected many people around the world. Using microscopic techniques, morpho-palynological analysis of Asteraceae and Poaceae families were recognized. LM and SEM study show both qualitative and quantitative character of pollen. Identification of allergenic pollen and microscopic identified character play important role for proper guideline of identification of pollen having allergenic potential.

Anterior gradient protein 2 (AGR2) is a protein disulfide isomerase and is strongly expressed in secretory tissues. Moreover, it is highly expressed in some cancers and is believed to be a potential diagnostic and therapeutic target. We therefore aimed at assessing AGR2 gene expression in patients with human glioblastoma (GBM) in comparison to levels in healthy brain tissues: a novel research.We evaluated the expression levels of AGR2 gene in 34 tissue samples: 29 of them were derived from patients with glioblastoma (GBM group) and 5 were derived from patients with mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (control group). Moreover, in order to demonstrate the AGR2 gene expression, we performed RNA isolation from tissue samples, cDNA acquisition from RNA via reverse transcription and the demonstration of gene expression via real-time polymerase chain reaction. We therefore confirmed findings of both groups.The mean age of the GBM and control groups were 53.1 ± 12.82 years and 40.4 ± 10.92 years respectively. AGR2 gene expression levels of the GBM group were significantly higher than those of the control group (p 0.01). There were no significant differences of AGR2 gene expression levels across age groups, levels of glucose, urea, creatinine, white blood cell count (WBC), neutrophil, lymphocyte, hemoglobin, platelet, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), T3 and T4 in GBM group (p 0.05).AGR2 gene expression was significantly higher in patients with GBM. Thus, AGR2 gene can be considered as a potential therapeutic target.

Palyno-anatomical characterization of some selected species of Boraginaceae and Fabaceae using light microscopy (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was conducted. Six species of them belongs to four genera of family Boraginaceae and other six species belongs to four genera of Fabaceae. The current study aimed to investigate palyno-anatomical features for correct identification and taxonomic significance. Pollen grains were acetolyzed and observed both qualitatively and quantitatively through light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Statistical data was analyzed through cluster analysis which categorized plants into clusters. Principal component analysis (PCA) was carried out to illustrate morphological variation among selected plant species. Studied plant species showed variation in shape, size, aperture type, exine ornamentation of pollen, size and shape of epidermal cells, types of stomata, guard cells, subsidiary cells and trichome types. Exine thickness was recorded maximum 2.30 ± 0.1 μm in Lablab purpureus and minimum 1.05 ± 0.2 in Gastrocotyle hispida. PCA summarized 73.78% of accumulative variance. Trichome index was observed highest 62% on the adaxial surface of Heliotropium europaeum and lowest 21% on adaxial surface of L. purpureus. These findings reinforce the importance of palyno-anatomical features in the characterization and identification of taxa. It was concluded that description of palyno-anatomical characteristics presented in this study, highly contribute to our knowledge for correct identification of plant species.

Purpose This study was carried out to determine the effect of nurses' compassion on burnout. Design and methods This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with 177 nurses. An introductory information form, the compassion scale and the Maslach burnout inventory were used as the data collection tools. Frequency, percentage, t test, analysis of variance, Kruskal-Wallis, correlation, and regression were used in the analysis of the data. Findings The majority of the participants were determined to be female, married and university graduates. It was determined that there was a significant negative relationship between the nurses' sense of compassion and burnout levels, and burnout decreased as compassion increased. Practical implication Burnout and compassion fatigue may lead to inadequate care for the patient. This situation will negatively influence nurses' care quality.

Palynological characterization is considered to be one of the significant taxonomic tools for the delimitation and identification of morphologically complicated taxa. Hence, the pollen morphology of 12 species of spineless Astragalus L. was examined using light and scanning electron microscopy. Studied pollen were small to medium, monad, prolate to per-prolate and tricolporate type in all studied taxa. The exine sculpturing varied from reticulate to microreticulate whereas colpus ornamentation ranged from scabrate to granulate. Furthermore, maximum polar and equatorial diameter was recorded in Astragalus leucocephalus Bunge. (45.00 μm) and A. pyrrhotrichus Boiss. (22.91 μm) while minimum in A. amherstianus Benth. ex Royle (28.75 μm) and A. amherstianus Benth. ex Royle (15.00 μm), respectively. Similarly, the ratio of polar to equatorial diameter was recorded maximum in A. ophiocarpus Boiss. (2.05). The width of colpi was larger in A. hamosus L. (1.29 μm) and smaller in A. ophiocarpus Boiss. (0.62 μm). We have also found the maximum value of mesocolpium in A. retamocarpus Boiss. (2.08 μm) while minimum in A. oxyglottis Steven ex M.Bieb. (1.87 μm). The quantitative pollen attributes helped in the development of pollen keys for the accurate and quick identification of the studied species. Furthermore, ordination and cluster analysis were performed for the differentiation of the investigated taxa at species level. Based on our results, we conclude that pollen features can be used for the delimitation and identification of the studied taxa. RESEARCH HIGHLIGHTS: Pollen micromorphology is a useful tool for classifying complicated taxa. The pollen micromorphology of 12 spineless species of Astragalus L. was studied using LM and SEM. The observed pollen characteristics aided in Astragalus L. serve for the identification and classification of taxa at specific level.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine sleep quality, frequency and severity of dyspnoea in COPD patients and to eval- uate the relationship between dyspnoea severity and sleep quality. Method: The sample of the study consisted of 110 patients admitted to the Chest Diseases polyclinic of a private hospital and diagnosed as COPD for at least one year. The data of the study were collected using the "Individual Information Form", "COPD and Asthma Sleep Scale (CASIS)" and "Medical Research Council (MRC) Dyspnoea Scale”. Results: It was found that 6.4% of the patients did not experience dyspnoea, 34.5% had mild, 40.9% had moderate, and 18.2% had severe dyspnoea. The mean CASIS score of the patients without dyspnoea was 29.08±7.83, with mild dyspnoea was 40.22±9.30, with moderate dyspnoea was 50.31±8.97 and with severe dyspnoea was 56.96±13.13. There was a statisti- cally significant difference between dyspnoea severity and mean CASIS score (p=0.001). Correlation analysis between MRC dyspnoea scale and CASIS score showed a significant positive correlation (r=0.61 p=0.001). Conclusion: It was concluded that the majority of COPD patients had moderate or poor sleep quality and dyspnoea. As dyspnoea severity increases, sleep quality decreases. Andrographolide (ANDRO), a bitter diterpene lactone found in Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Nees, possesses several biological effects such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and organo-protective effects. Scientific reports suggest that it also has neuroprotective capacity in various test systems. The purpose of this review was to synthesize the neuropharmacological properties of ANDRO and highlight the molecular mechanisms of action that highlight these activities. A careful search was done in PubMed and Google Scholar databases using specific keywords. Findings suggest that ANDRO possess neuroprotective, analgesic, and antifatigue effects. Prominent effects were stated on neuro-inflammation, cerebral ischemia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, multiple sclerosis, and brain cancer in mice and rats. Furthermore, ANDRO and its derivatives can enhance memory and learning capacity in experimental animals (rats) without causing any toxicity in the brain. Thus, ANDRO may be one of the most promising plant-based psychopharmacological lead compounds for new drug development.

This study was conducted to determine effect of yoga nidra on the self-esteem and body image of burn patients.This study was performed in a quasi-experimental model with pretest and post-test control groups. The domain of the study was formed with the patients at adult burn unit of a university. One hundred ten patients participated in the study. The data were collected using the Self-Description Form, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and the Body Image Scale.After yoga practice, there was a statistically significant increase and improvement in the self-esteem and body image of the experimental group (p 0.05). A statistically significant decline in the score average of pretest and post-test of body image of the patients in the control group was observed (p 0.05).It has been observed that yoga practice increases self-esteem and improves the body image of burn patients significantly.

Hypopituitarism is defined as a decreased release of hypophyseal hormones, which may be caused by disease of the pituitary gland disease or hypothalamus. The clinical findings of neonatal hypopituitarism depend on the causes and on presence and extent of hormonal deficiency. Patients may be asymptomatic or may demonstrate non-specific symptoms, but may still be at risk for development of pituitary hormone deficiency over time. Patient history, physical examination, endocrinological, radiological and genetic evaluations are all important for early diagnosis and treatment. The aim of this paper was to present a review of etiological factors, clinical findings, diagnosis and treatment approaches in neonatal hypopituitarism.

The effects of convection drying, freezing, and freeze-drying, on phytochemicals content, in vitro activity and bioaccessibility of sweet basil, cinnamon basil, red rubin basil, and lemon basil were investigated. For evaluation of bioaccessibility, rosmarinic acid content, phenolic content, and antioxidant potential of samples before and after gastric and intestinal steps of digestion were determined. Results showed that the content, activity and bioaccessibility of basil phytochemicals varied depending on the cultivar as well as the applied postharvest preservation. It was found that the frozen and freeze-dried plant materials were characterized by a higher phenolic level and antioxidant activity compared to the convection dried. However, in general, convection drying allows obtaining samples with higher bioaccessibility of phytochemicals compared to the low-temperature processed samples. These findings highlight the need for evaluation of basil cultivars and postharvest preservation methods regarding phytochemicals bioaccessibility, which might help in the classification in terms of pro-health quality.

Hypocalcemia, hypomagnesemia, and hyperphosphatemia are common electrolyte disturbances in perinatal asphyxia (PA). Different reasons have been proposed for these electrolyte disturbances. This study investigated the effect of the urinary excretion of calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and phosphorus (P) on the serum levels of these substances in babies who were treated using therapeutic hypothermia for hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) caused by PA. This study sheds light on the pathophysiology that may cause changes in the serum values of these electrolytes.This study included 21 healthy newborns (control group) and 38 patients (HIE group) who had undergone therapeutic hypothermia due to HIE. Only infants with a gestational age of 36 weeks and above and a birth weight of 2000 g and above were evaluated. The urine and serum Ca, Mg, P, and creatinine levels of all infants were evaluated at 24, 48, and 72 h.The lower serum Ca value and the higher serum P value of the HIE group were found to be statistically significant compared to the control group (p0.05). There was no significant difference in serum Mg values between the groups. However, hypomagnesemia was detected in five patients from the HIE group. The urine excretion of FeCa and FeMg at 24 h, and FeP excretion at 48 and 72 h were found to be significantly higher in the HIE group compared to the control group.This study determined that the urinary excretion of Ca, Mg, and P has an effect on the serum Ca, Mg, and P levels of infants with HIE.

All-solution processable fabrication of high performance transparent conductive electrodes is vital for next-generation optoelectronics applications. In this study, rapid and versatile fabrication of highperformance transparent electrodes by synergetic integration of electrospun nanofibers and particle-free reactive silver inks is reported. Direct electrospinning of reactive silver ink containing polymer blend solution followed by a swift thermal annealing enables fabrication of transparent conductive electrodes (TCEs) with a sheet resistance of similar to 1.9 Omega/sq with 90% transmission. The high-performance TCEs were fabricated within couple of minutes including the electrospinning and thermal annealing duration. The key aspects of our strategy are the use of a polymer blend consisting of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and particle-free nature of reactive silver inks. Practical utility of the fabricated transparent electrodes in Joule heaters that work at temperatures as high as 300 degrees C is presented. The simple, versatile, inexpensive, and rapid fabrication of transparent conductive electrodes can enable broad range of applications. This study was carried out in a university hospital located in the southeastern region of Turkey to determine the relationship between the perceived stress with the religious attitude and behavior of the intensive care patient’s relatives; 150 patient’s relatives participated in this descriptive and relation-seeking study between the dates of January and April 2019. The Personal Data Form, Perceived Stress Scale, and Religious Attitude and Behavior Inventory that were designed by their own researchers as a result of the literature review were used in this study. As a result of this study, it was found that there was a statistically significant relationship between religious attitude and behavior and perceived stress levels of the patient’s relatives with sociodemographic features such as age, gender, marital status, and educational level. It was determined that the participants mostly prefer to pray as a method for stress management (65.3%). In terms of educational level, it was identified that 42% of the participants are elementary school graduates; besides, the stress level of this group was significantly lower than the others, and their religious attitude and behaviors were higher (p = 0.004). In consideration of these results, in terms of holistic care, it is recommended that nurses should make arrangements toward their strategy for stress management considering the religious attitudes and behaviors of patients' relatives.

Objective This study aimed to detect which of the two main medicines suggested in the treatment of postligation cardiac syndrome (PLCS)—dobutamine or mirinone—possesses a more therapeutic effect. While doing this, clinicians are provided with a broader perspective on the treatment and follow-up of cases. The desire was to increase the treatability and monitor ability of the cases in question and hence their survivability. Study Design A retrospective review of a cohort of infants with PLCS was conducted between March 2012 and December 2018. In the treatment of infants with PLCS, dobutamine (dobutamine study group-DSG) or milrinone (milrinone study group-MSG) was used. The respiration, cardiac, echocardiography, and perfusion parameters of the cases were assessed both before and after ligation. Based on the data obtained, both the effects of the medicines on PLCS and the difference between their therapeutic effects were studied. The accuracy of prognostication was assessed with receiver operating characteristic analyses. Results PLCS was detected in 29 (34.1%) of 85 patent ductus arteriosus ligation cases in total. Of all the PLCS cases, 13 (44.8%) were treated with dobutamine and 16 (55.2%) with milrinone. It was observed that the effects of the medicines on the respiratory system and cardiovascular system manifested in the third and 6th hour, respectively. It was detected that both medicines had more effect on the systolic blood pressure (SBP) (area under the curve [AUC]: 0.997/0.996, p = 0.001/0.002) than on the diastolic blood pressure (AUC: 0.911/0.843, p = 0.032/0.046). Conclusion Dobutamine and milrinone, two primary medicines that can be used in the treatment of cases with PLCS, possess similar therapeutic effects on this pathology. In addition, their postoperative therapeutic effects on the SBP are more in the foreground.

Objective Transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN) is the leading cause of neonatal morbidity in preterm deliveries and has been reported in term small-for-gestational-age (SGA) fetuses; therefore, determination of fetal lung maturity before delivery is extremely important. Our present study aimed to evaluate the ratio of fetal pulmonary artery acceleration time to ejection time (At/Et) in uncomplicated term SGA fetuses and whether this ratio changes with TTN. Study design One hundred seventy-five pregnant women with uncomplicated pregnancies who delivered after 37 gestational weeks were included in this cross-sectional study. Participants were divided by birth weight percentiles into SGA (n = 86) and healthy control groups (n = 89). All participants underwent ultrasound examination to determine fetal pulmonary artery At/Et. After delivery, the neonates were grouped according to diagnosis of TTN (i.e., TTN-positive SGA group [n = 14], TTN-negative SGA group [n = 72], and TTN-negative control group [n = 86]), and the fetal pulmonary artery At/Et was compared between the two. Results Maternal demographic characterizes were similar between groups. At/Et was 0.309 ± 0.181 in the SGA group and 0.348 ± 0.213 in the control group and was significantly lower in the SGA group. At/Et was 0.290 ± 0.007 in the TTN-positive SGA group, 0.313 ± 0.017 in the TTN-negative SGA group, and 0.351 ± 0.186 in the TTN-negative control group, a significant difference. Additionally fetal pulmonary artery At/Et was found to be inverse correlated with TTN. (-0,464 P = 0.000). The cut-off value of 0.298 provided optimal specificity of 93.0 % and sensitivity of 81.0 % for subsequent diagnosis of TTN in term SGA newborns in the neonatal period. Conclusion The risk for TTN increases in uncomplicated term SGA fetuses. The fetal pulmonary artery At/Et appears to be a noninvasive useful method by which to predict TTN in these fetuses.

Background: While propranolol hydrochloride (PH) is being more widely used in adult patients, its administration in the neonatal period as well is progressively on the rise in our time. With the increasing use of PH in the neonatal age period, worries resulting from the potential adverse effects of the agent on vital organs, such as brain, in particular, have come to the fore. Such concerns increase even more when PH is used in treating preterm infants. Our study, aiming to clarify these increasing concerns, is the first clinical one of its kind in the literature, conducted on very preterm infants, the patient group most vulnerable to PH treatment. Aims: To investigate possible short- and long-term side effects of using PH during the neonatal period and to provide information to clinicians regarding such side effects. Study Design: Case-control study. Materials and Methods: This was a double-blind, randomized, and placebo-controlled trial. In the study, we included 36 very preterm infants subjected to PH treatment (0.5 mg/kg/6 h) initiated in the first postnatal month and lasting for approximately 1 month (PH group [PHG]) and 40 very preterm infants who received distilled water in place of PH (control group [CG]). The gestational age of all infants in the study was below 31+6 weeks, and their birth weight was under 1500 g. The patients' vital functions and physical development were monitored and recorded in patient follow-up forms. At approximately 1 year of age (CG: 9.73 +/- 4.56 months and PHG: 10.8 +/- 5.73 months), the Ankara Developmental Screening Inventory (ADSI) and the Denver Developmental Screening Test II (DDST-II) were used to assess the mental development of the children. Results: In the PHG patients, PH treatment was initiated at 27.0 +/- 2.7 days of life and lasted for 26.5 +/- 8.7 days. The newborns in the CG received distilled water for similar durations. A statistically significant difference in blood sugar levels was detected between CG (78.4 +/- 12.5) and PHG (65.6 +/- 7.5) (P = 0.006). However, no statistically significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of physical and mental development (ADSI and DDST-II) of the children at the end of the study (P > 0.05). Conclusions: When used on very preterm infants, PH may have some temporary effects on the patients' vital functions in the short term; however, no serious side effects were detected that may affect the physical and mental development in the long run.

Purpose This study was performed to investigate the knowledge and attitudes about organ donation from the perspective of liver transplant patients. Design and Methods The study was conducted at the organ transplantation clinics. The data were collected by the researchers from 129 participants using in-person interviews. Findings In this study, 83% of patients received the organ from live donors, 36% received liver transplants in the previous 1 year, more than 70% agreed to donate their organs, and 80% thought awareness should be raised in society about organ donation. Conclusion It was found that the participants in the sample needed information on the issue, although the sample consisted of individuals who had experienced organ donation. It is important that nurses and nurse managers understand the level of knowledge and the attitudes of organ donation patients who have undergone liver transplantation. Worldwide, organ donation is not at the desired level. This study aims to enhance in nurses and nurse managers the foresight regarding and awareness about behaviors of transplantation patients.

WOS: 000512481000020, A novel CN- selective fluorescent turn-on sensor (TPMN) possessing triphenylamine and phenanthroimidazole as signaling units and dicyanovinyl unit for the binding site was designed and synthesized. TPMN exhibited a drastic change in its emission spectra with about 13-fold fluorescence enhancement when treated with CN-, while other tested anions could not arouse the fluorescence enhancement. The experimental and theoretical calculation results showed that this increase in fluorescence intensity of TPMN in presence of CN- is due to the large decrease in the ICT effect by the addition of CN- ion to beta-carbon of the dicyanovinyl moiety. TPMN could selectively detect CN- with a detection limit of 0.23 mu M among the common anions. The CN--binding mode was well-characterized to be 1:1 by using Job's plot with an association constant of 5.36 (logK(a)). All over the world, the prevalence of cancer is increasing day by day with the increasing incidence of cancers and cancer-related mortality rates in Turkey. Cancer is one of the most important health problems due to frequent occurrence, high cost of treatment with mortality and morbidity, side effects that it creates. Taking precaution responsibilities against cancer is important among the health professionals, especially nurses. It is known that many well-known risk factors such as smoking, infections, avoidance of exposure to radiation, as well as healthy lifestyle behaviors such as healthy eating and physical exercise are effective in protecting from many types of cancer. Therefore, cancer risk factors and ways of protection should be known and publicized by health professionals.

Abstract. The aim of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic effect of lycopene on a hyperoxia-induced lung injury model in rat pups. Full-term rat pups were included in the study 12–24 h after delivery. The pups were separated into 4 groups: normoxia control (NC), hyperoxia control (HC), hyperoxia + lycopene (HL), and normoxia lycopene (NL). The normoxia groups were housed in ambient air, and the hyperoxia groups in > 85% O2. HL and NL groups received 50 mg lycopene in oil/kg body weight/day delivered intraperitoneally (i.p.), the other groups received oil alone. On day 11, the rat pups were sacrificed and their lungs removed. Statistically significant injury was observed in all histological parameters measured (MLI, proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), and apoptosis) in the HC group (HC vs NC, p = 0.001). This injury could not be reversed with lycopene treatment (HC vs HL, 0.05; NC vs HL, p = 0.001). With hyperoxia, statistically significant decreases were observed in biochemical parameters in terms of SOD, MDA, and IL-6 values (HC vs NC: SOD, p = 0.02; MDA, p = 0.043; IL-6, p = 0.001). The use of lycopene did not provide any improvement in these values (HC vs HL, p > 0.05). Hyperoxia or lycopene had no effect on IL-1β and GPx (p > 0.05). When comparing NC and NL groups, negative effects were observed in the group given lycopene in terms of MLI, PCNA, apoptosis, and IL-6 (all parameters, p = 0.001). We observed that 50 mg lycopene in oil/kg body weight/day given via i.p. had no curative effect on the hyperoxia-induced lung injury in newborn rats and may even induce adverse effects.

The aim of this study was to investigate serum CysC levels in osteopenia of prematurity (OP) and determine whether CysC could be safely used as a marker of renal insufficiency in infants with OP. Tissues and organs get exposed to high oxygen (O-2) supply in hyperoxia conditions. The goal of this research was to investigate the protective effect of actin binding protein gelsolin on hyperoxia-induced hepatotoxicity through histopathology and measurement of oxidative stress parameters and DNA damage in a neonatal Wistar albino rats. The pups were randomly separated to four equal groups such as: normoxia control group (NC), normoxia plus gelsolin group (NG, 10 ng/kg bw/day gelsolin), hyperoxia (>= 85% O-2) group (HC), hyperoxia plus gelsolin group (HG, >= 85% O-2; 10 ng/kg bw/day gelsolin). Histopathological changes of pups in hyperoxia condition were revealed in the form of severe leukocyte infiltration, vascular congestion, necrosis, vacuolar degeneration, binucleated hepatocytes and hemorrhage in the liver tissue. SOD, CAT, GPx and GST activities decreased and MDA level increased in the hyperoxia-induced group in liver tissue (P < 0.05). Tail DNA%, tail length and moment indicating DNA damage statistically increased in hyperoxia treatment groups when compared to controls. Treatment of rats with hyperoxia plus gelsolin prevented hyperoxia-induced changes in tissue structure, antioxidant enzyme activities and MDA level, mean tail DNA% and length. Based on these findings, gelsolin restored these changing to near normal levels but it does not protect completely in the hyperoxia conditions.

Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is one of the major problems of surviving premature infants with several ophthalmic morbidities such as increased risk of refractive errors, strabismus, and cortical visual impairment. Use of propranolol hydrochloride (PH) for the prevention of ROP is a new promising treatment modality. However, long-term effects are still to be defined. In our study, we aimed to investigate the short-term refractive effects of PH used for ROP prophylaxis in very preterm newborns.This is a prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. Very preterm newborns with a birthweight less than or equal to 1500 g and/or born prior to 32 gestational weeks were included in the study. The subjects were randomly divided into two groups: control group (CG, n = 37) given placebo and PH group (PHG, n = 34) given PH starting from 4 weeks after birth (27.1 ± 2.1 day). PHG patients received PH therapy for about 1 month (25.7 ± 7.8 day). Anthropometric measurements including weight, length, and head circumference were recorded before PH treatment (at birth) and during eye control (at corrected age). Cycloplegic refraction values were measured by retinoscopy at corrected age (CG: 10.3 ± 4.3 months, PHG: 11.4 ± 4.8 months).Anthropometric measurements including gestational age, weight, length, and head circumference were similar at birth and corrected age in both groups. The mean level of spherical refraction was significantly less hyperopic in the PHG than in the CG (CG: 1.37 ± 1.40 D, PHG: 0.37 ± 1.44 D) (p = 0.005).PH may lead to myopic shift by affecting the beta-adrenergic receptors in the choroid or ciliary body of the developing eye. Long-term refractive follow-up is required in order to elucidate the effects of PH on emmetropization process of these very preterm infants.

Multipath is a dominant error source in Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) applications that reduces the position, time and velocity accuracy. Mitigation of such errors can be achieved by better signal processing and antenna design. This paper attempts to examine the different height of RTK system antenna with regards to the multipath error. The results obtained in this work show height significantly change of multipath in pseudo range (MP1) and multipath in the carrier phase (MP2). Different antenna height does not give the same multipath error result in the tests that we have conducted in this work. The optimal height of the antenna was achieved as two meters in order to obtain a minimum multipath error for MP1 and MP2. At the end of this work, we experimentally proved that there is an inverse relationship between the height of the antenna and multipath with RTK algorithm.

The ability to pattern highly conductive features on paper substrates is critically important for applications in radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, displays, sensors, printed electronics, and diagnostics. Ink-jet printing particle-free reactive silver inks is an additive, material efficient and versatile strategy for fabrication of highly conductive patterns; however, the intrinsic wetting properties of cellulose based papers are not suitable to serve as substrates for this process. This study reports one-step and practical modification of the surface of paper substrates using industrially available materials. The paper substrates were dip-coated with films of hydrocarbon and fluorocarbon based polymeric resins. Ink-jet printing particle-free reactive silver inks on the modified paper substrates followed by fast thermal annealing resulted in highly conductive patterns. The coatings improved the conductivity of the patterns and reduced the number of printing layers required to obtain conductivity. We finally demonstrated fabrication of a printed RFID tag on the coated paper substrates operating at the frequency range of 865–870 MHz.

Material and methods A prospective cohort study was performed between April 1, 2016 and April 30, 2017. the study included VLBW infants admitted to level III NICUs. Perinatal and neonatal data of all infants born with a birth weight of.1500 g were collected for infants who survived. Results Data from 69 NICUs were obtained. the mean birth weight and gestational age were 1137 +/- 245 g and 29 +/- 2.4 weeks, respectively. During the study period, 78% of VLBW infants survived to discharge and 48% of survived infants had no major neonatal morbidity. VLBW infants who survived were evaluated in terms of major morbidities: bronchopulmonary dysplasia was detected in 23.7% of infants, necrotizing enterocolitis in 9.1%, blood culture proven late-onset sepsis (LOS) in 21.1%, blood culture negative LOS in 21.3%, severe intraventricular hemorrhage in 5.4% and severe retinopathy of prematurity in 11.1%. Hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus was diagnosed in 24.8% of infants. Antenatal steroids were administered to 42.9% of mothers. Conclusion the present investigation is the first multicenter study to include epidemiological information on VLBW infants in Turkey. Morbidity rate in VLBW infants is a serious concern and higher than those in developed countries. Implementation of oxygen therapy with appropriate monitoring, better antenatal and neonatal care and control of sepsis may reduce the prevalence of neonatal morbidities.
