1912’de Harbiye Mektebi’nden mezun olduktan sonra Balkan Savaşı, Birinci Dünya Savaşı ve İstiklal Savaşı’nda birçok muharebeye katılan bir subay olan Feridun Dirimtekin, Kıdemli Yüzbaşılıktan ayrıldıktan sonra çeşitli kurumlarda yönetici olarak görev yapmıştır. Dirimtekin, bu görevleri sırasında çalıştığı kurumlarla ilişkilendirilebilecek makale ve kitap türünden birçok esere imza atmıştır. Askeri Tarih, Arkeoloji, Sanat Tarihi ve Mimarlık Tarihi konularını ele aldığı eserlerinin bir kısmı askeri tarihe dairdir. Muvazzaf subay olduğu yıllarda kaleme aldığı ilk eserler dönemin Harp Tarihi tetkikleri metodolojisi ve anlayışına uygun olarak yazılan farklı cephelerdeki muharebeler üzerinedir. Harp Akademisi’nde Harp Tarihi dersleri de vermiştir. Yazar, ordudan ayrıldıktan sonra da askeri tarih konularıyla ilgilenmiş ve yönde yayınlar yapmıştır. Bu konuda onlarca eseri olmasına rağmen birçok askeri tarihçi gibi çok az tarihçinin hatırladığı isimler listesine yazılmıştır. Dirimtekin’in askeri tarihçiliğine odaklanan bu makaleyle yazarın hayatı ve eserleri ortaya konularak onun genel olarak tarih disiplinini özel olarak da askeri tarih disiplinindeki yerini ortaya koymak amaçlanmıştır. Bu yapılırken dolaylı olarak yazarın diğer disiplinlerdeki araştırmaları da gündeme gelecektir. Yazarın kısa biyografisini de içeren makale aynı zamanda onun çalıştığı kurumların ve bu kurumlar vasıtasıyla yürüttüğü faaliyet alanlarının da tarihçesine katkı sağlayacaktır.

Bu çalışmada Çayca/Kütahya’dan alınan tüflerin çimentoda mineral katkı maddesi olarak kullanılabilirliği araştırılmıştır. Çayca tüfünün toplam SiO2+Al2O3+Fe2O3 içeriği %85.34’dür. Çayca tüfünün volkanik birimleri riyodasitik tüf, dasitik tüf, andezitik tüf bileşimleridir. Kirli beyaz, sarımsı, grimsi, pembemsi ve bej renkler gösteren Çayca tüflerinin çok hızlı (10 saniyede 4476 cm2/g) öğütülebildiği görülmüştür. Farklı tane boyutlarında öğütülen tüfler (4476, 5017 ve 5175 cm2/g) Portland çimentosu yerine ağırlıkça %25 oranında ikame edilerek hazırlanan katkılı çimento pastalarının kıvam ve priz süreleri incelenmiş, katkılı harçların 2, 7, 28 ve 56 günlük fiziksel ve mekanik özelikleri belirlenmiştir. Harçlara standart su kürü ve otojen kür uygulanmıştır. Çayca tüfünün tane boyutu küçüldükçe priz başlangıç ve bitiş süreleri uzamış, basınç dayanımları artmıştır. En yüksek basınç dayanımı otojen kür uygulanan katkısız harçlarda elde edilmiştir. Çayca tüfü içeren harç numunelerinin 2 ve 28 günlük basınç dayanımları TS EN 197-1 (2012)’de belirtilen seviyeye ulaşamamışlardır.

This paper proposes rough convergence and rough statistical convergence of a double sequence in intuitionistic fuzzy normed spaces. It then defines the rough statistical limit points and rough statistical cluster points of a double sequence in these spaces. Afterwards, this paper examines some of their basic properties. Finally, it discusses the need for further research.

Günümüzde artan çevre sorunları nedeniyle günlük hayatımızda çevreyle ilgili konularda kullanılan terimler de artmıştır. Çevre kirlenmesinin sebep olduğu küresel ısınma ve iklim değişikliği günümüzün en önemli başlığı haline gelmiştir. Çevre konuları üzerine toplumsal farkındalık oluşturulması ve doğru bilginin yayılması önem kazanmıştır. Anket (sormaca) tekniği ile yapılan bu çalışma, seçilen bazı terimler aracılığıyla kişilerin çevresel konular hakkındaki farkındalığını ortaya koymak amacıyla planlanmıştır. Bu terimlerin bilinme düzeyinin ölçülmesi ve terim hakkındaki bilginin hangi kaynaklardan alınmış olduğunun tespit edilmesine yönelik olarak elektronik ortamda gerçekleştirilen bir anket hazırlanmıştır. Geniş anlamda çevre bilimlerinde sıklıkla kullanılan 50 adet Türkçe terim için; bilinirlik düzeyi ve bilgi kaynakları seçenekler halinde sorulmuştur. İnternet üzerinden çevrimiçi uygulama yöntemiyle Türkiye genelinde çeşitli illerden 500 kişinin katılımı sağlanmıştır. Sonuçlar tüm katılımcıların yanıtları göz önüne alınarak istatistiksel olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Toplumdaki bilinirlik düzeyi en yüksek terimlerin “açıklayacak kadar bilgim var” seçeneğine göre, fotosentez, erozyon ve küresel ısınma; bilinme düzeyi en az olan terimlerin ise “hiç rastlamadım” seçeneğine göre ötrofikasyon, antropojenik ve pasif bina olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bununla birlikte katılımcıların bilgi edinme kaynakları arasında, en çok kullandığı bilimsel makale/kitap, en az ise gazete/dergi olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bu çalışmanın gelecek nesillerin çevresel farkındalık kazanmasına, çevre terimlerinin bilinirliğinin artırılmasına ve bilgilendirici kaynakların doğru biçimde kullanılmasına katkısı olacaktır.

Dünya Tasarım Örgütü’nün atölye programı olan Dünya Tasarım Konuşmaları, Birlikte Yaşam-İzmir teması ile 29 Haziran 2018’de İzmir’de gerçekleştirildi. Tema; doğayla birlikte yaşamak, toplumda birlikte yaşamak, şehirde birlikte yaşamak, kültürel mirasla birlikte yaşamak ve teknolojiyle birlikte yaşamak alt başlıkları ile ele alındı. İzmir’in uluslararası bir tasarım kenti olma vizyonu dâhilinde, küresel karşılığı olan yerel meselelerin tasarım perspektifi ile tartışıldığı, yerel, ulusal, uluslararası düzeyde çeşitli kurumların bir araya geldiği, iş birliğiyle ve katılımcı bir süreçle organize edilen bu etkinlik; İzmir’in tasarım etkinlikleri tarihi içerisinde stratejik, kapsamlı, katılımcı nitelikleriyle ve İzmir’in birlikte yaşama kültürünün zenginliğine atfen dünyayla birlikte çözmek için öne sürdüğü birlikte yaşamak meselesiyle önemli bir yere sahip oldu.

Bu çalışma, 2019 yılında Borsa İstanbul'da işlem gören imalatçı firmaların denetim raporlarında yer alan kilit denetim konularını etkileyen faktörleri incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Borsa İstanbul'da işlem gören 164 imalatçı firmanın denetlenmiş mali tablolarından toplanmış olan verilerin analizi için Poisson regresyon modeli kullanılmıştır. Regresyon analizinin sonuçları, 4 büyük denetim şirketi arasında yer almayan denetim şirketlerinin daha fazla kilit denetim konusunu açıkladığını ve firma karmaşıklığının kilit denetim konularının sayısını önemli ölçüde arttırdığını göstermektedir. Kilit denetim konularının sayısı ile denetim görüşü arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamsız bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Bu çalışmanın, kilit denetim konularının farklı bir perspektifine önemli bulgular ekleyerek sınırlı literatüre katkıda bulunması beklenmektedir., This paper aims to investigate the factors affecting key audit matters disclosed by manufacturing firms listed on Borsa Istanbul for the accounting period of 2019. Data are collected from the audited financial statements of 164 manufacturing firms listed on Borsa Istanbul and Poisson regression analysis is applied to the empirical model. The results of regression analysis indicate that non-Big 4 auditors disclose more key audit matters and firm complexity considerably increases the number of key audit matters. A statistically insignificant relationship between the disclosure of key audit matters and audit opinion was found. This paper is expected to contribute to the limited literature by adding important findings on another perspective of key audit matters.

Nesne tespit ve sınıflandırma yöntemlerinin başarısının artırılması amacıyla model odaklı ve veri odaklı yaklaşımlar araştırmacılar tarafından son yıllarda sıklıkla çalışılmaktadır. Araştırmacıların birçoğu problemlere özgü model önerilerinde bulunmakta ve mevcut modeller üzerinde değişimler önermektedir. Öte yandan, eğitim sürecinde kullanılmakta olan veri üzerinde yapılan çalışmaların sayışa oldukça azdır. Bu çalışmada, mevcut bir tanıma ve sınıflandırma problemi üzerinde, model ve veri odaklı yaklaşımların etkileri kıyaslanmıştır. Yaygın kullanıma sahip olan YOLOv4 ağı üzerinde yapılan ağ yapısı değişikliğinin başarım ve performansa etkisiyle, veri setinde kullanılan verilerin yeniden hazırlanmasıyla elde edilen başarım karşılaştırılarak yorumlanmıştır. Ağ yapısının değişimi ile nesne tanıma başarısı yaklaşık %4 oranında artarken, hesaplama hızında ortalama %8’lik düşüş meydana gelmiştir. Öte yandan verilerin yeniden hazırlanarak nesne tanıma algoritmasının çalıştırılması %6 oranında kazanç sağlarken, hesaplama maliyetinde değişime neden olmamıştır. Günümüzde yeteri kadar dikkate alınmasa da veri üzerindeki hazırlıkların sınıflandırma doğruluğuna önemli derecede etki yaptığı gözlemlenmiştir.

In machining operations, the cutting process is negatively affected due to the high temperature occurring between the cutting tool and the workpiece. The heat generated in the environment should be removed from the cutting point with a chip. In this study, the surface roughness of the processed surfaces and the changes in cutting forces depending on the abrasive powder added to the minimum-quantity-lubrication (MQL) system and cutting speed were examined. In the experiments, 1.2379 cold-work tool steel hardened to 59 HRC hardness was used; a cubic boron nitride (BN) cutting insert, which is resistant to turning operations at high hardness, was chosen as the cutting insert; and aluminum oxide (Al2O3) nanoparticles were used as abrasive powder. When the experiment results were examined, the best average surface roughness obtained was 0.888 mm in the experiment where the cutting speed applied was 160 m/min and volumetric nanofluid concentration applied was 4%. When the resultant cutting forces were examined, it was observed that the change in the abrasive powder amount did not have as much effect on the resultant cutting forces as surface roughness did. Therefore, it was revealed that the nanofluid-doped MQL system applications are needed to increase surface quality with a lubrication effect rather than a cooling effect.

In this chapter, human resources accounting is comprehensively analyzed. Human capital has been often neglected or inaccurately reported in the financial statements due to its nature. In the new economy, financial market participants such as investors, creditors, and shareholders would like to get information about the firm's investment in human capital. Over the last decades, some accounting methods have been developed for human capital. In this chapter, the methods used in the accounting treatment of human capital are analyzed, and a total of 288 operating reports of banks listed on Borsa Istanbul for the period between 2010 and 2017 are examined through content analysis. The results of content analysis indicate that there is a growing trend in human capital disclosure by banks listed on Borsa Istanbul between the period of 2010 and 2017, implying that banks listed on Borsa Istanbul have become more aware of the importance of human capital.

Both alkali-activation concretes, which are becoming more and more common today to reduce carbon emissions, and conventional concretes can be exposed to organic and inorganic acids throughout their service life. Especially in marine building, factory, agricultural, and sewage concrete applications, the acid effect is important. In this study, especially the acid effect on alkali-activation concretes was focused. Deteriorating effect of acids, the characteristics of the acid environments, standards used to determine the acid resistance, and effects of acid on the properties of alkali-activated concretes were investigated. While increasing acid concentration and exposure time to acid increase the losses in the mechanical properties of alkali-activated concretes, methods such as adding additives and decreasing the alkaline solution/binder ratio have been used to reduce these losses. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd All rights reserved.

One of the main issues in the computer vision field is the applications of object detection and classification. Convolutional neural networks stand out due to its computational performance (speed) and accuracy to realize object detection and classification processes needed in popular applications such as autonomous vehicles and surveillance systems. However, object detection and classification processes lack different feature extractions like the colors of the same types of objects. The reason behind this is each color is required to be defined as a new class in the network even if the object category is the same. Another way to obtain the color data of the detected object is to process the related image at the pixel level. In order to improve the accuracy of the methods to be performed at the pixel level, it is necessary to clearly define the boundaries of the detected object by using segmentation as well as object detection. The color of the object can be classified with the pixel intensity values of the image in detected object boundaries. In this study, after the instance segmentation is carried out with convolutional neural networks, color classification based on pixel information is performed and the colors of the objects is determined as well as their classes. The success of the proposed approach has been tested experimentally and contributed to the literature by presenting an effective method., Görüntü üzerinde nesne tespit ve sınıflandırma uygulamaları görüntü işleme alanında ele alınan temel konulardandır. Otonom araçlar ve görsel takip sistemleri gibi popüler uygulamalarda ihtiyaç duyulan nesne tespit ve sınıflandırma işlemlerinin gerçekleştirilmesinde evrişimsel sinir ağları, hesaplama performansı (hızı) ve başarımı ile öne çıkmaktadır. Ancak nesne tespit ve sınıflandırma işlemleri aynı tip nesnelerin renk gibi farklı özellik çıkarımlarından yoksun olmaktadır. Bu durumun temelinde ise nesne tipi aynı olsa da her bir rengin yeni bir sınıf olarak ağa tanıtılması gerekliliğidir. Tespit edilen nesnenin renk bilgisini edinmenin bir diğer yolu ise nesneye ait görüntüyü piksel seviyesinde işlemektir. Piksel seviyesinde yapılacak işlemlerin doğruluğunu arttırmak için nesne tespitinin yanında bölütme işlemi de yapılarak tespit edilen nesnenin sınırlarını net olarak belirlemek gereklidir. Tespit edilen nesnenin rengi tespit edilen nesne sınırları içerisindeki piksel yoğunluk değerleri ile sınıflandırılabilir. Bu çalışmada evrişimsel sinir ağları ile gerçekleştirilen örnek bölütlemesi sonrası piksel bilgilerine dayalı renk sınıflandırması yapılarak nesnelerin sınıflarının yanı sıra renkleri de tespit edilebilmiştir. Ortaya konulan yaklaşımın başarısı deneysel olarak sınanmış ve etkin bir yöntem sunularak literatüre katkıda bulunulmuştur.

In this study, mechanical, visual, and microstructure changes of geopolymer concrete exposed to sulfate and salt effects were investigated. Elazığ ferrochrome slag (EFS) and blast furnace slag (BFS)-based geopolymer concretes which completed curing time were immersed in 5% sodium sulfate (Na2SO4), magnesium sulfate (MgSO4), sodium chloride (NaCl), and magnesium chloride (MgCl2) solutions for 12 weeks. The compressive strength values, ultrasonic pulse velocities, visual inspections, weight, and length changes of the samples were determined in this investigation. In addition, scanning electron microscopy was performed for the microstructure analysis of the samples removed from the solutions. Sulfate solutions had a more negative effect on the samples than salt solutions. As the EFS ratio in the mixture increases, the loss rate in the strength of the samples exposed to sulfate and salt solutions decreased. While samples exposed to sodium chloride, sodium sulfate, and magnesium sulfate solutions occurred weight gain, samples exposed to magnesium chloride occurred weight loss. The samples in salt solutions shrank, while the samples in sulfate solutions expanded. No deterioration occurred on the surfaces of the samples exposed to the solutions for 12 weeks. © 2019 fib. In this study, blast furnace slag- (BFS) and Elazığ ferrochrome slag (EFS)-based geopolymer concretes were produced. Samples were immersed in 5% phosphoric acid (H3PO4), hydrochloric acid (HCl), hydrofluoric acid (HF) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4) solutions for 12 weeks. The compressive strengths, ultrasonic pulse velocities, weight and length changes of the samples were determined in this process. At the same time, visual inspections of the samples were investigated. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis was performed for the microstructure analysis of the samples removed from the solutions. 5% H2SO4 solution had the most negative effect on the samples. As the EFS ratio in the geopolymer concrete mixture increased, the loss rate in the strength of the samples exposed to acid solutions decreased. H3PO4 solution caused less weight loss in samples than other acid solutions. It was seen that the samples immersed in H3PO4 and HCl solutions shrank and that the samples immersed in HF and H2SO4 solutions expanded. Softening, cracking and corruption occurred on the surfaces of the samples exposed to the acid solutions for 12 weeks. With increasing EFS ratio in the mixture, the deterioration of the samples’ surfaces exposed to acid solutions decreased. Objectives We aimed to evaluate total serum calcium (TSC) and ionized serum calcium (ISC) levels and their effects on clinical outcomes in neonates underwent exchange transfusion (ET). Method In this study, the data of newborn infants who underwent ET due to hyperbilirubinemia in a third level neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were monitored by electrocardiogram during ET. Cardiac and respiratory rates, peripheral oxygen saturation, blood pressure values ​​and clinical findings as convulsion, tremor, hypertonia, laryngospasm, cyanosis and apnea were recorded in ET observation forms. The infants with no symptoms of hypocalcemia during the procedure were not routinely given IV calcium gluconate. TSC and ISC measured at the beginning, at the end and 24 h after the end of ET were evaluated retrospectively. Results Data of 36 newborn patients were evaluated. Median gestational age was 39 (35−40) weeks, mean birthweight was 2840 ± 841 (mean ± SD) grams. During the ET, desaturation was observed in five patients(13.9 %), sinus bradycardia in six(16.7 %), tachypnea in two(5.5 %), sinus tachycardia in one(2.8 %), and rare ventricular extrasystoles in one(2.8 %). Hypocalcaemia was not detected in any of the patients at the beginning of ET. Hypocalcemia was observed in two cases (5.5 %) at the end of ET. There was no statistically significant difference between the TSC and ISC levels at the beginning of ET, at the end and at the end of 24 h. Conclusion As a result, routine intravenous (IV) calcium administration seems to be unnecessary provided that vital signs and neurological status are closely monitored during ET.

The literature of Turkey's modern history has generally been influenced by the modernization paradigm, under the influence of reform-oriented historiography of the Turkish Revolution. This historiography, which prioritizes political actors and their activities, did not take into account many phenomena that can be dealt with especially within the framework of cultural history and the process in which these phenomena emerged or tried to explain the actors in the centre. Therefore, wars and their political, social and cultural consequences have been tried to be explained in relation to this centre. In fact, the period between 1860-1880, when a great change and noticeable firsts were seen in many ways, was mostly overshadowed by concepts such as Tanzimat and Islahat that evoke more political transformation. These concepts also point to the top-down implementation of reforms paving the way for institutional and social change. However, as can be seen from the examples given in this study, besides the changes that are outside the official area and arising as a need in the official areas, the effect of civilian areas that forces change from the bottom to the top is great. The fascinating process of the first war, initiated with an international alliance, was the result of the process that turned the civil press and broadcasting into a compulsory need. In addition to the destructive effects of the war, the consequences that bring political, social and cultural dynamism and force change are also visible. The period between the Crimean and the Ottoman-Russian War contains many remarkable examples in this sense. This period had been an atmosphere of firsts in many ways., Türkiye’nin yakınçağ tarihinin yazımı genellikle modernleşme paradigmasından etkilenmiş, reformlara odaklı inkılap tarihçiliğinin etkisi altında kalmıştır. Siyasal aktör ve onların faaliyetlerini önceleyen bu tarih yazımı özellikle kültür tarihi çerçevesinde ele alınabilecek birçok olguyu ve bu olguların ortaya çıktığı süreci dikkate almamış veya aktörleri merkeze alarak açıklamaya çalışmıştır. Dolayısıyla savaşlar ve onların siyasal, toplumsal, kültürel sonuçları da bu merkeze bağlı olarak açıklanmaya çalışılmıştır. Esasında birçok anlamda büyük bir değişim ve fark edilir derecede ilklerin görüldüğü 1860-1880 arası dönem Tanzimat ve Islahat gibi daha çok siyasal dönüşümü çağrıştıran kavramların gölgesinde kalmıştır. Bu kavramlar da kurumsal ve toplumsal değişimin önünü açan reformların yukarıdan aşağıya doğru uygulanmasına işaret etmektedir. Oysa bu çalışmada verilen örneklerden anlaşılacağı üzere resmi alanın dışında kalan ve resmi alanlarda bir ihtiyaç olarak doğan değişimlerin yanı sıra sivil alanların aşağıdan yukarıya doğru değişimi zorlayan etkisi büyüktür. Uluslararası bir ittifakla girişilen ilk harbin merakları cezbeden sürecinin sivil basın ve yayıncılığı zorunlu bir ihtiyaca dönüştüren sonucu olmuştur. Harbin yıkıcı etkilerinin yanı sıra siyasal, toplumsal ve kültürel dinamizm kazandıran ve değişimi zorlayan sonuçları da görünmektedir. Kırım ve Osmanlı-Rus Harbi arasında kalan zaman dilimi bu anlamda dikkate değer birçok örnek içermektedir. Bu dönem birçok anlamda ilklerin yaşandığı bir atmosfer olmuştur.

Distance education (DE), which has evolved under the wings of information technologies in the last decade, has become a fundamental part of our modern education system. DE has not only replaced the traditional education method as in social sciences and lifelong learning opportunities but also has significantly strengthened traditional education in mathematics, science, and engineering fields that require practical and intensive study. However, it is deprived of supporting some key elements found in traditional educational approaches such as (i) modern computer laboratories with installed special software suitable for the student&rsquo, s field of interest, (ii) adequate staff for maintenance and proper functioning of laboratories, (iii) face-to-face technical support, (iv) license fees. For students to overcome these shortcomings, a virtual application pool is needed where they can easily access all the necessary applications via remote access. This research aims to develop a platform-independent virtual laboratory environment for DE students. This article has been developed specifically to guide DE institutions and to make a positive contribution to the literature. Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) has been used to explain student behaviors. It was concluded that students using the platform performed more successful grades (12.89%) on laboratory assessments and that the students using the developed platform were found to be more satisfied with the education process.

Ferrochrome slag (FS) and ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) were used as resource material in geopolymer concrete mixtures. A mixture of 10 M sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) was used as the activator. After the two different slag-based geopolymer concrete (SGC) mixtures were prepared and molded. They were kept at 80°C for 24 hr, and then the SGC samples were cured in 23 ± 1°C water for 27 days. Samples that completed the curing times were exposed to the 300 freeze–thaw (F–T) cycles. The compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity, relative dynamic elasticity modulus values, weight changes, and appearances of the SGC samples were examined at the end of every 50 F–T cycles. Scanning electron microscopy analysis was performed to examine the microstructure changes of the samples after 300 F–T cycles. As the GGBFS proportion in the SGC mix increased, the mechanical properties of the samples against the F–T effect increased. Samples containing 100% FS and 75% FS fell apart at the end of 150 and 200 F–T cycles, respectively. The deterioration of the geopolymer gel structures of the samples exposed to F–T was decreased with increasing GGBFS ratio in the mix. © 2019 fib. International Federation for Structural Concrete

In this chapter, the impacts of corporate governance mechanisms on accounting conservatism are examined by using a sample that includes 85 non-financial firms quoted in Borsa Istanbul during the years of 2013 to 2018. The results of empirical analysis indicate that board size, board independency, institutional ownership, and firm size are positively related with accounting conservatism. However, leverage is negatively related with accounting conservatism, while there is no statistically significant association between CEO duality and accounting conservatism. This chapter contributes to limited literature on the association between accounting conservatism practices and corporate governance in the emerging market.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, denetim komitesinin firma değeri üzerindeki etkilerini araştırmaktır. 2011-2019 yılları arasında Borsa İstanbul'da işlem gören imalat sanayinde faaliyet gösteren 141 firmaya ait veriler kullanılmıştır. Panel veri analizinin sonuçlarına göre, denetim komitesi üyelerinin muhasebe ve finans uzmanlığı, denetim komitesi büyüklüğü ve denetim komitesi toplantılarının sıklığı firma değerini olumlu yönde etkilemektedir. Bu çalışma, Borsa İstanbul'da işlem gören imalat sanayinde faaliyet gösteren firmalarının değerinin, denetim komitesi özelliklerinden önemli ölçüde etkilendiğini göstermektedir. Gelişmekte olan ekonomiler bağlamında, bu çalışma firma değeri ile denetim komitesi arasındaki ilişki hakkında yeni perspektifler sunmaktadır. Analizin sonuçları düzenleyici kurumlar, kreditörler ve yatırımcılar için de önemli çıkarımlar sağlamaktadır., The objective of this paper is to analyze the impacts of audit committee on firm value. Employing panel data on a sample that consists of 141 manufacturing firms whose shares are traded on Borsa Istanbul during the period between 2011 and 2019, this paper found that the inclusion of audit committee members with accounting and finance background, audit committee size and the number of audit committee meetings positively influence firm value. This paper demonstrates that the value of manufacturing firms listed on Borsa Istanbul is significantly affected by audit committee characteristics. In the context of emerging economies, this paper offers new perspectives on the association between firm value and audit committee. The results of empirical analysis also provide important implications for policymakers, creditors and shareholders.

In the competitive economic environment, cash flow statement reveals prominent information about firms. The aim of the present study is to examine the usefulness of cash flow statement in the prediction of business failure by using a sample including 66 firms listed on Borsa Istanbul from 2010 to 2018. A total of 33 non-failed firms are matched with 33 failed firms based on size and industry. In the present study, logistic regression models are constructed for each of three years prior to business failure. The empirical findings of this study indicate that cash flow measures are strong predictors of business failure.

In the current business environment, the costing system used within the firms has prominent impact on strategic decisions. High-quality cost data significantly increases the quality of firms' strategic decisions. The activity-based costing system has failed to satisfy the needs of firms operating in the competitive economic environment. The time-driven activity-based costing system is the developed version of activity-based costing system. Time-driven activity-based costing system is one of the most sophisticated costing systems that enable firms to accurately calculate the cost of goods and services. Time-equations are used in time-driven activity-based costing system to estimate the time consumed by each activity. This chapter aims to discuss main dynamics of time-driven activity-based costing system and provides an illustration of this costing system in the manufacturing industry. The case study demonstrates that time-driven activity-based costing system is useful in calculating idle capacity cost.

The use of waste materials in concrete production is important because of the recycling of these materials. In this context, the use of both geopolymer binder and recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) becomes important. For this purpose, in this study, ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) based geopolymer concrete containing RCA was designed and freeze–thaw (F-T) and sulfate resistance of these samples were determined. In the production of geopolymer concrete, three different binder contents (300, 400 and 500 kg/m3) and five different ratios of RCA (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%) were used. Samples that completed curing period were exposed to 100F-T cycles and two sulfate solutions (3% MgSO4 and 1.5% Na2SO4 + 1.5% MgSO4). Compressive strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), weight change and sorptivity values ​​of these samples were determined. At the same time, these results were interpreted together with microstructure analysis (SEM and EDS). An exponential relationship was found between Ca/Si and Si/Al ratios of the samples and their compressive strength. Increasing in Ca/Si ratio and decreasing in Si/Al ratio caused an increase in compressive strength. As the binder content amount increased, the resistance of the samples against F-T cycles and sulfate solutions increased. With the increasing RCA ratio in the samples, there were increases in strength losses, but these losses were low and indicated that RCA was suitable for use in geopolymer concrete production. © 2021 Elsevier Ltd

Bu calismada Minimum Miktarda Yaglama (MMY) sistemine katilan asindirici toz miktari ve kesme hizina bagli olarak islenmis yuzeylerdeki yuzey puruzlulugundeki degisimler incelenmistir. Kesme hizi olarak (V:100, 120, 140 ve 160 m/dk) ve kesme yontemi olarak (kuru, MMY, MMY+%1 Al 2 O 3 , MMY+%2 Al 2 O 3 , MMY+%4 Al 2 O 3 ve MMY+%6 Al 2 O 3 ) kesme parametreleri secilmistir. Deney malzemesi olarak yuksek sertlige ulasabilmek adina 59 HRC sertliginde sertlestirilmis 1.2379 soguk is takim celigi secilmis olup, kesici uc olarak ise yuksek sertlikte tornalama islemlerine dayanikli olan CBN kesici uc secilmistir. Kesme sivisina katilan asindirici toz olarak Al 2 O 3 nanopartikuller kullanilmis, deney sonrasinda yuzey kalitesindeki degisimleri gormek adina MAHR Perthometer M1 yuzey puruzluluk olcum aleti kullanilmistir. Deney sonuclari incelendiginde en iyi ortalama yuzey puruzlulugune, kesme hizinin 160 m/dk ve hacimsel nano-akiskan konsantrasyonunun %4 olarak uygulandigi deneyde 0,888 μm ile ulasilmistir. Ortalama yuzey puruzluluk degerinin en yuksek oldugu deney ise 100 m/dk kesme hizinda kuru kesme isleminde ortaya cikmistir. Farkli parametreler ile yapilan deneyler karsilastirildiginda kesme hizi ve nano-akiskan konsantrasyonundaki artisin yuzey kalitesine olumlu yonde etkisi oldugu sonucu ortaya cikmistir.

The financial performance of the firms is one of the major concerns for the users of financial statements. Accounting standard setting bodies have encouraged firms to report comprehensive income which is believed to have much more value relevant information than traditional net income. The objective of this paper is to assess the usefulness of comprehensive income and net income in explaining future firm performance. Based on a sample that includes 102 non-financial firms, the empirical analysis indicates that there are advantages of reporting comprehensive income in predicting corporate financial performance. According to the empirical evidences, net income is better than comprehensive income in predicting future net income and operating income, while comprehensive income is better than net income in predicting future return on assets and return on equity.

Forensic accounting has brought acontemporary approach to the investigation of financial informationmanipulation. Financial market participants expect that future demand forforensic accountants will significantly increase in the business environment. Forensicaccounting applications have grabbed significant attention in the recent yearsdue to its effectiveness in the investigation of financial informationmanipulation. Forensic accounting includes a wide range of activities such aslitigation support, expert witness and fraud investigation. Past experienceshave proved that forensic accounting practices play a pivotal role in thedetection and deterrence of financial information manipulation. This study aimsto investigate the impacts of forensic accounting on the detection of financialinformation manipulation in the current business environment. Moreover, thedynamics of forensic accounting are discussed. The methods used by forensicaccountants to detect financial information manipulation are presented.

Earnings management isone of the controversial issues in the current business environment. The valuerelevance of earnings is adversely influenced by earnings management. Theobjective of this study is to analyze the association between audit quality andearnings management for non-financial firms quoted on Borsa Istanbul. Ordinaryleast square regression analysis is employed in this study in analyzing the associationbetween earnings management and audit quality. Three different proxies foraudit quality (auditor independence, audit industry specialization and auditortenure) were analyzed based on a sample of 97 non-financial firms quoted onBorsa Istanbul from 2013 to 2018. Empirical analysis indicates that auditorindependence and audit industry specialization are significantly negatively relatedwith likelihood of earnings management and long-term auditor and clientrelationship enables the management of firms to more actively engage inearnings management. This paper finds support for the notion that thehigh-quality audit is one of the prominent factors that can mitigate earningsmanagement practices., Kazanç yönetimi işdünyasında en fazla tartışılan konular arasındadır. Kazançların değerilgililiği kazanç yönetiminden olumsuz olarak etkilenmektedir. Bu çalışmanınamacı, denetim kalitesi ve kazanç yönetimi arasındaki ilişkiyi Borsa İstanbul’akote olan şirketler açısından analiz etmektir. Denetim kalitesi ve kazançyönetimi arasındaki ilişki sıradan en küçük kareler yöntemi kullanılarak analizedilmektedir. 2013-2018 yıllarını kapsayan ve Borsa İstanbul’a kote olan 97reel sektör firmasının verilerinden yararlanarak denetim kalitesinin üçgöstergesi (denetçi bağımsızlığı, denetçinin sektörel uzmanlığı ve denetimfirmasının müşteri firmaya hizmet süresi) sıradan en küçük kareler yöntemikullanılarak analiz edilmektedir. Sıradan en küçük kareler yönteminin sonuçlarınagöre; denetçi bağımsızlığı ve denetçinin sektörel uzmanlığı kazanç yönetiminiönemli derecede azaltmaktadır ve denetim firması ile müşteri firma arasındakiuzun süreli ilişki, müşteri firmanın daha yoğun bir şekilde kazanç yönetiminiuygulamasına yol açmaktadır. Bunlara ek olarak, bağımsız denetimininkalitesinin yüksek olması firmaların kazanç yönetimi uygulamalarını önemliderecede azaltmaktadır.
