Power consumption in the home has grown in recent years as a consequence of the use of varied residential applications. On the other hand, many families are beginning to use renewable energy, such as energy production, energy storage devices, and electric vehicles. As a result, estimating household power demand is necessary for energy consumption monitoring and planning. Power consumption forecasting is a challenging time series prediction topic. Furthermore, conventional forecasting approaches make it difficult to anticipate electric power consumption since it comprises irregular trend components, such as regular seasonal fluctuations. To address this issue, algorithms combining stationary wavelet transform (SWT) with deep learning models have been proposed. The denoised series is fitted with various benchmark models, including Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Gated Recurrent Units (GRUs), Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Units (Bi-GRUs), Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-LSTM), and Bidirectional Gated Recurrent Units Long Short-Term Memory (Bi-GRU LSTM) models. The performance of the SWT approach is evaluated using power consumption data at three different time intervals (1 min, 15 min, and 1 h). The performance of these models is evaluated using metrics such as Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE), and Mean Absolute Error (MAE). The SWT/GRU model, utilizing the bior2.4 filter at level 1, has emerged as a highly reliable option for precise power consumption forecasting across various time intervals. It is observed that the bior2.4/GRU model has enhanced accuracy by over 60% compared to the deep learning model alone across all accuracy measures. The findings clearly highlight the success of the SWT denoising technique with the bior2.4 filter in improving the power consumption prediction accuracy.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have been securing a big position in the new aspect of security network attacks, where these suffer from various serious cyber threats that can play with their data integrity and reliability. Due to the key importance of WSN in a wide spectrum range of applications such as environmental monitoring and military field, building reliable, robust and efficient intrusion detection systems (IDS) is necessary. Although traditional machine learning approaches have been intended to detect these threats, they often lack high accuracy due to the complexity and dimensionality of WSN data. To address these limitations, the study introduces an innovative approach that greatly improves intrusion detection performance in WSNs by combining a high-speed deep learning model with sophisticated feature selection methods. The newly developed system underwent extensive testing using the WSN-DS dataset and applied Gaussian Naive Bayes (GNB) and Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) algorithms within the machine learning framework. The outcomes were exceptional, demonstrating a flawless accuracy rate of 100% and representing a significant advancement compared to prior methodologies based solely on traditional machine learning techniques. The study illustrates how the fusion of deep learning and optimized feature selection effectively addresses the distinctive challenges presented by WSN environments. The results not only present a highly precise and effective method for intrusion detection but also lay the groundwork for further research focused on fortifying the security of sensor networks against progressively intricate cyber threats.

Communication in cyber-physical systems relies heavily on Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), which have numerous uses including ambient monitoring, object recognition, and data transmission. However, they are vulnerable to cyberattacks because they are connected to the IoT. In order to combat the difficulties associated with WSN intrusion detection, this research employs machine learning techniques, notably the Gaussian Nave Bayes (GNB) and Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD) algorithms. The effectiveness of recommendation systems is improved with the introduction of context awareness. To lessen the burden on the computer, we first do a principal component analysis and singular value decomposition on the raw traffic data. On the WSN-DS dataset, the suggested SG-IDS model achieved a 96% accuracy rate, outperforming state-of-the-art algorithms with higher rates of 98% accuracy, 96% recall, and 97% F1 measurement. In an evaluation of an IoMT dataset, the SG-IDS performed admirably, with an accuracy of 0.87 and a precision of 1.00 in intrusion detection tasks.

Effective feature extraction and selection are crucial for the accurate classification and prediction of hand gestures based on electromyographic signals. In this paper, we systematically compare six filter and wrapper feature evaluation methods and investigate their respective impacts on the accuracy of gesture recognition. The investigation is based on several benchmark datasets and one real hand gesture dataset, including 15 hand force exercises collected from 14 healthy subjects using eight commercial sEMG sensors. A total of 37 time- and frequency-domain features were extracted from each sEMG channel. The benchmark dataset revealed that the minimum Redundancy Maximum Relevance (mRMR) feature evaluation method had the poorest performance, resulting in a decrease in classification accuracy. However, the RFE method demonstrated the potential to enhance classification accuracy across most of the datasets. It selected a feature subset comprising 65 features, which led to an accuracy of 97.14%. The Mutual Information (MI) method selected 200 features to reach an accuracy of 97.38%. The Feature Importance (FI) method reached a higher accuracy of 97.62% but selected 140 features. Further investigations have shown that selecting 65 and 75 features with the RFE methods led to an identical accuracy of 97.14%. A thorough examination of the selected features revealed the potential for three additional features from three specific sensors to enhance the classification accuracy to 97.38%. These results highlight the significance of employing an appropriate feature selection method to significantly reduce the number of necessary features while maintaining classification accuracy. They also underscore the necessity for further analysis and refinement to achieve optimal solutions.

Information security in data storage and transmission is increasingly important. On the other hand, images are used in many procedures. Therefore, preventing unauthorized access to image data is crucial by encrypting images to protect sensitive data or privacy. The methods and algorithms for masking or encoding images vary from simple spatial-domain methods to frequency-domain methods, which are the most complex and reliable. In this paper, a new cryptographic system based on the random key generator hybridization methodology by taking advantage of the properties of Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) to generate an indefinite set of random keys and taking advantage of the low-frequency region coefficients after the DCT stage to pass them to a subsystem consisting of an Reversible Logic Gate (RLG) group to obtain the secret keys that are passed to Rivest Shamir Adleman (RSA) to finish encrypting the image. The results indicate that the proposed method has the ability to generate a very large set of highly complex and secure secret keys that can be used later in the encryption stage. Moreover, the number and complexity of those keys will change each time the image is changed, and this represents the contribution of the proposed method. They experienced no time loss throughout the encryption and decryption processes when using RLG, which indicates that the proposed system did a good job in making different keys from the same image. And it differs in the strength of the key from one image to another, depending on the nature of the color imge.

Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) play a pivotal role in diverse applications such as environmental monitoring, industrial automation, healthcare, and smart cities. The motivation behind the development of WSNs stems from their impact in providing real-time data on various environmental parameters. The challenge for WSNs is to achieve strong security and efficient energy saving together. Traditional methods sought to find solutions either through security or energy. In response, this study proposed a secure and energy-efficient framework for enhancing security measures in WSNs while minimizing the impact on energy resources by using the Enhanced Consumed Energy Leach (ECP-LEACH) protocol and the Enhanced Random Forest Classifier for Low Execution Time (ERF-LET) algorithm for attack detection named Security-Enhanced Energy Conservation with ERF-LET (S-2EC-ERF). The integration of the detection algorithm at the node level played a pivotal role in fortifying the security posture of individual nodes by detecting and mitigating potential security threats. Leveraging a comprehensive dataset obtained from NS3 simulations, the ERF-LET algorithm demonstrated its proficiency in differentiating between normal and attack packets, thereby laying a strong foundation for subsequent evaluations, where it achieved an accuracy of 98.193%. The proposed methodology was further validated through real-time simulations conducted on the NS3. The results demonstrated the superiority of the proposed S-2EC-ERF in terms of the packet delivery ratio (PDR), average throughput, end-to-end delay, and mean energy consumption compared to the Security-Enhanced Energy Conservation with Logistic Regression (S-2EC-LR), Security-Enhanced Energy Conservation with Decision Tree (S-2EC-DT), and Security-Enhanced Energy Conservation with AdaBoost (S-2EC-Ada) algorithms.

Indoor localization of a mobile target represents a prominent application within wireless sensor network (WSN), showcasing significant values and scientific interest. Interference, obstacles, and energy consumption are critical challenges for indoor applications and battery replacements. A proposed tracking system deals with several factors such as latency, energy consumption, and accuracy presenting an innovative solution for the mobile localization application. In this paper, a novel algorithm introduces a self-localization algorithm for mobile targets using the wake-up media access control (MAC) protocol. The developed tracking application is based on the trilateration technique with received signal strength indication (RSSI) measurements. Simulations are implemented in the objective modular network testbed in C++ (OMNeT++) discrete event simulator using the C++ programming language, and the RSSI values introduced are based on real indoor measurements. In addition, a determination approach for finding the optimal parameters of RSSI is assigned to implement for the simulation parameters. Simulation results show a significant reduction in power consumption and exceptional accuracy, with an average error of 1.91 m in 90% of cases. This method allows the optimization of overall energy consumption, which consumes only 2.69% during the localization of 100 different positions.

In the past ten years, rates of forest fires around the world have increased significantly. Forest fires greatly affect the ecosystem by damaging vegetation. Forest fires are caused by several causes, including both human and natural causes. Human causes lie in intentional and irregular burning operations. Global warming is a major natural cause of forest fires. The early detection of forest fires reduces the rate of their spread to larger areas by speeding up their extinguishing with the help of equipment and materials for early detection. In this research, an early detection system for forest fires is proposed called Forest Defender Fusion. This system achieved high accuracy and long-term monitoring of the site by using the Intermediate Fusion VGG16 model and Enhanced Consumed Energy-Leach protocol (ECP-LEACH). The Intermediate Fusion VGG16 model receives RGB (red, green, blue) and IR (infrared) images from drones to detect forest fires. The Forest Defender Fusion System provides regulation of energy consumption in drones and achieves high detection accuracy so that forest fires are detected early. The detection model was trained on the FLAME 2 dataset and obtained an accuracy of 99.86%, superior to the rest of the models that track the input of RGB and IR images together. A simulation using the Python language to demonstrate the system in real time was performed.

In recent years, the combination of wireless body sensor networks (WBSNs) and the Internet ofc Medical Things (IoMT) marked a transformative era in healthcare technology. This combination allowed for the smooth communication between medical devices that enabled the real-time monitoring of patient’s vital signs and health parameters. However, the increased connectivity also introduced security challenges, particularly as they related to the presence of attack nodes. This paper proposed a unique solution, an enhanced random forest classifier with a K-means clustering (ERF-KMC) algorithm, in response to these challenges. The proposed ERF-KMC algorithm combined the accuracy of the enhanced random forest classifier for achieving the best execution time (ERF-ABE) with the clustering capabilities of K-means. This model played a dual role. Initially, the security in IoMT networks was enhanced through the detection of attack messages using ERF-ABE, followed by the classification of attack types, specifically distinguishing between man-in-the-middle (MITM) and distributed denial of service (DDoS) using K-means. This approach facilitated the precise categorization of attacks, enabling the ERF-KMC algorithm to employ appropriate methods for blocking these attack messages effectively. Subsequently, this approach contributed to the improvement of network performance metrics that significantly deteriorated during the attack, including the packet loss rate (PLR), end-to-end delay (E2ED), and throughput. This was achieved through the detection of attack nodes and the subsequent prevention of their entry into the IoMT networks, thereby mitigating potential disruptions and enhancing the overall network efficiency. This study conducted simulations using the Python programming language to assess the performance of the ERF-KMC algorithm in the realm of IoMT, specifically focusing on network performance metrics. In comparison with other algorithms, the ERF-KMC algorithm demonstrated superior efficacy, showcasing its heightened capability in terms of optimizing IoMT network performance as compared to other common algorithms in network security, such as AdaBoost, CatBoost, and random forest. The importance of the ERF-KMC algorithm lies in its security for IoMT networks, as it provides a high-security approach for identifying and preventing MITM and DDoS attacks. Furthermore, improving the network performance metrics to ensure transmitted medical data are accurate and efficient is vital for real-time patient monitoring. This study takes the next step towards enhancing the reliability and security of IoMT systems and advancing the future of connected healthcare technologies.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a standard procedure in medical imaging, on a par with echography and tomodensitometry. In contrast to radiological procedures, no harmful radiation is produced. The constant development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) techniques has enabled the production of higher resolution images. The switching of magnetic field gradients for MRI imaging generates induced voltages that strongly interfere with the electrophysiological signals (EPs) collected simultaneously. When the bandwidth of the collection amplifiers is higher than 150 Hz, these induced voltages are difficult to eliminate. Understanding the behavior of these artefacts contributes to the development of new digital processing tools for better quality EPs. In this paper, we present a study of induced voltages collected in vitro using a device (350 Hz bandwidth). The experiments were conducted on a 1.5T MRI machine with two MRI sequences (fast spin echo (FSE) and cine gradient echo (CINE)) and three slice orientations. The recorded induced voltages were then segmented into extract patterns called “artefact puffs”. Two analysis series, “global” and “local”, were then performed. The study found that the temporal and frequency characteristics were specific to the sequences and orientations of the slice and that, despite the pseudo-periodic character of the artefacts, the variabilities within the same recording were significant. These evolutions were confirmed by two stationarity tests: the Kwiatkowski–Phillips–Schmidt–Shin (KPSS) and the time-frequency approach. The induced potentials, all stationary at the global scale, are no longer stationary at the local scale, which is an important issue in the design of optimal filters adapted to reduce MRI artifacts contaminating a large bandwidth, which varies between 0 and 500 Hz.

With the increasing integration of energy sources and the growing complexity of distribution networks, it is crucial to monitor and early detection of topological changes to ensure grid stability and resilience. Current methods, for optimizing the placement of micro Phasor Measurement Units (μPMUs) focus on achieving observability and efficient monitoring. These algorithms aim to minimize the number of μPMUs needed while maintaining system observability or meeting criteria for observability. However, they may not consider all real-world constraints and uncertainties. In this study, we introduce a strategy for placing μPMUs with the objective of enhancing observability and monitoring capabilities. Our proposed algorithm employs a technique that makes optimal decisions at each step to approximate the global optimum. To determine the locations for μPMUs our algorithm takes into account parameters such as network structure, key nodes, and system stability. One distinguishing feature is its adaptability to distribution networks, including changes, in topology or potential device failures. Unlike classical approaches, our algorithm can continuously provide optimal placement solutions even in evolving network conditions. We have demonstrated that our suggested method achieves better results in terms of observability value and the required number of μPMUs compared to the state-of-the-art. By strategically placing μPMUs, operators can improve system observability, quickly detect and locate faults, and make informed decisions for effective network operations. This research helps improve optimal placement strategies for μPMUs by providing practical and effective solutions to improve distribution network reliability, resilience, and performance in the face of changing dynamics.

Accurate diagnosis and classification of epileptic seizures can greatly support patient treatments. As many epileptic seizures are convulsive and have a motor component, the analysis of muscle activity can provide valuable information for seizure classification. Therefore, this paper present a feasibility study conducted on healthy volunteers, focusing on tracking epileptic seizures movements using surface electromyography signals (sEMG) measured on human limb muscles. For the experimental studies, first, compact wireless sensor nodes were developed for real-time measurement of sEMG on the gastrocnemius, flexor carpi ulnaris, biceps brachii, and quadriceps muscles on the right side and the left side. For the classification of the seizure, a machine learning model has been elaborated. The 16 common sEMG time-domain features were first extracted and examined with respect to discrimination and redundancy. This allowed the features to be classified into irrelevant features, important features, and redundant features. Redundant features were examined with the Big-O notation method and with the average execution time method to select the feature that leads to lower complexity and reduced processing time. The finally selected six features were explored using different machine learning classifiers to compare the resulting classification accuracy. The results show that the artificial neural network (ANN) model with the six features: IEMG, WAMP, MYOP, SE, SKEW, and WL, had the highest classification accuracy (99.95%). A further study confirms that all the chosen eight sensors are necessary to reach this high classification accuracy.

Piezoelectric Vibration converters are nowadays gaining importance for supplying low-powered sensor nodes and wearable electronic devices. Energy management interfaces are thereby needed to ensure voltage compatibility between the harvester element and the electric load. To improve power extraction ability, resonant interfaces such as Parallel Synchronized Switch Harvesting on Inductor (P-SSHI) have been proposed. The main challenges for designing this type of energy management circuits are to realise self-powered solutions and increase the energy efficiency and adaptability of the interface for low-power operation modes corresponding to low frequencies and irregular vibration mechanical energy sources. In this work, a novel Self-Powered (SP P-SSHI) energy management circuit is proposed which is able to harvest energy from piezoelectric converters at low frequencies and irregular chock like footstep input excitations. It has a good power extraction ability and is adaptable for different storage capacitors and loads. As a proof of concept, a piezoelectric shoe insole with six integrated parallel piezoelectric sensors (PEts) was designed and implemented to validate the performance of the energy management interface circuit. Under a vibration excitation of 1 Hz corresponding to a (moderate walking speed), the maximum reached efficiency and power of the proposed interface is 83.02% and 3.6 mW respectively for the designed insole, a 10 kΩ resistive load and a 10 μF storage capacitor. The enhanced SP-PSSHI circuit was validated to charge a 10 μF capacitor to 6 V in 3.94 s and a 1 mF capacitor to 3.2 V in 27.64 s. The proposed energy management interface has a cold start-up ability and was also validated to charge a (65 mAh, 3.1 V) maganese dioxide coin cell Lithium battery (ML 2032), demonstrating the ability of the proposed wearable piezoelectric energy harvesting system to provide an autonomous power supply for wearable wireless sensors.

Wireless sensor network (WSN) with energy-saving capabilities have drawn considerable attention in recent years, as they are the key for long-term monitoring and embedded applications. To improve the power efficiency of wireless sensor nodes, a wake-up technology was introduced in the research community. Such a device reduces the system’s energy consumption without affecting the latency. Thereby, the introduction of wake-up receiver (WuRx)-based technology has grown in several sectors. The use of WuRx in a real environment without consideration of physical environmental conditions, such as the reflection, refraction, and diffraction caused by different materials, that affect the reliability of the whole network. Indeed, the simulation of different protocols and scenarios under such circumstances is a success key for a reliable WSN. Simulating different scenarios is required to evaluate the proposed architecture before its deployment in a real-world environment. The contribution of this study emerges in the modeling of different link quality metrics, both hardware and software metrics that will be integrated into an objective modular network testbed in C++ (OMNeT++) discrete event simulator afterward are discussed, with the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) for the hardware metric case and the packet error rate (PER) for the software metric study case using WuRx based on a wake-up matcher and SPIRIT1 transceiver. The different behaviors of the two chips are modeled using machine learning (ML) regression to define parameters such as sensitivity and transition interval for the PER for both radio modules. The generated module was able to detect the variation in the PER distribution as a response in the real experiment output by implementing different analytical functions in the simulator.
