Abstract

Introduction: Mitral stenosis (MS) causes structural and functional abnormalitiesof the left atrium (LA) and left atrial appendage (LAA), and studies show that LAA performance improves within a short time after percutaneous transvenous mitral commissurotomy (PTMC). This study aimed to investigate the effects of PTMC on leftatrial function by transesophageal echocardiography (TEE).Methods: We enrolled 56 patients with severe mitral stenosis (valve area less than1.5 CM2). All participants underwent mitral valvuloplasty; they also underwenttransesophageal echocardiography before and at least one month after PTMC.Results: Underlying heart rhythm was sinus rhythm (SR) in 28 patients and atrialfibrillation (AF) in remainder 28 cases. There was no significant change in the leftventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), left ventricular end diastolic dimension (LVEDD),or the left ventricular end systolic dimension (LVESD) before and after PTMC in bothgroups. However, both groups showed a significant decrease in the left atrial volumeindex (LAVI) following PTMC (P=0.032 in SR and P=0.015 in AF group). Abstract

This paper proposes a novel visual simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) system called Hybrid Depth-augmented Panoramic Visual SLAM (HDPV-SLAM), that employs a panoramic camera and a tilted multi-beam LiDAR scanner to generate accurate and metrically-scaled trajectories. RGB-D SLAM was the design basis for HDPV-SLAM, which added depth information to visual features. It aims to solve the two major issues hindering the performance of similar SLAM systems. The first obstacle is the sparseness of LiDAR depth, which makes it difficult to correlate it with the extracted visual features of the RGB image. A deep learning-based depth estimation module for iteratively densifying sparse LiDAR depth was suggested to address this issue. The second issue pertains to the difficulties in depth association caused by a lack of horizontal overlap between the panoramic camera and the tilted LiDAR sensor. To surmount this difficulty, we present a hybrid depth association module that optimally combines depth information estimated by two independent procedures, feature-based triangulation and depth estimation. During a phase of feature tracking, this hybrid depth association module aims to maximize the use of more accurate depth information between the triangulated depth with visual features tracked and the deep learning-based corrected depth. We evaluated the efficacy of HDPV-SLAM using the 18.95 km-long York University and Teledyne Optech (YUTO) MMS dataset. 29. Nonuniversal Dynamics of Hyperbranched Metallo-Supramolecular Polymer Networks by the Spontaneous Formation of Nanoparticles

Abstract

Various transient and permanent bonds are commonly combined in increasingly complex hierarchical structures to achieve biomimetic functions, along with high mechanical properties. However, there is a traditional trade-off between mechanical strength and biological functions like self-healing. To fill this gap, we develop a metallo-supramolecular polymer hydrogel based on the hyperbranched poly(ethylene imine) (PEI) backbone and phenanthroline ligands, which have unexpectedly high plateau modulus at low concentrations. Rheological measurements demonstrate nonuniversal metal-ion-specific dynamics, with significantly larger plateau moduli, longer relaxation times, and stronger temperature dependencies, compared to equivalent networks based on model-type telechelic precursors, which cannot be explained by the theory of linear viscoelasticity. TEM images reveal the in situmineralization of metal ions, which nucleate by the ligand complexation and grow thanks to the spontaneous reducing effect of the PEI backbone. Evidently, the complex lifetime works against Ostwald ripening, resulting in the formation of thermodynamically stable smaller particles. This trend is followed by time-dependent network buildup measurements and is confirmed by a kinetic model for particle formation and aggregation. The spontaneous formation of particles with complex lifetime-dependent sizes can explain the nonuniversal dynamics through the interaction of polymer segments and particles at the nanoscale. This work describes how the polymer backbone can affect the strength and stability of supramolecular bonds, promising for combining high mechanical properties and self-healing comparable to natural tissues.

Abstract

Background: Spontaneous coronary artery dissection is a rare disease with a more prevalence in women, mostly in the postpartum state, which was first described by Peretti in 1931. Case presentation: This report describes a previously healthy woman who had a spontaneous coronary artery dissection. This case is related to the early postpartum period with a successful outcome. In addition, the diagnostic and therapeutic approaches of this unique clinical entity are discussed and reviewed. Conclusions: Because these kinds of cases are so rare, reporting these cases and the management and treatment approaches can guide other clinicians worldwide, and maybe a guideline for choosing the best approach around different situations could be published. 42. The network structure in transient telechelic polymer networks: extension of the Miller–Macosko model.

Abstract

The combination of supramolecular chemistry and polymer science has resulted in the development of transient polymer networks with diverse properties and applications. Specifically, polymer networks based on transient linking of telechelic polymer precursors offer a high degree of control over the network structure, which can reform in response to external stimuli that change the connectivity of transient bonds. Therefore, the combination of the versatile polymer functionality and the adjustable connectivity of transient bonds may result in complex network structures that are not easy to predict or characterize. To address this gap, herein we extend the Miller–Macosko model to forecast the network connectivity of transient telechelic polymer networks made with various polymer functionalities and transient connectivities represented by metal–ligand complexes. This model predicts a universal dependence of the network structure and modulus on preparative parameters including the metal ion identity, characterized by the complexation thermodynamics, and concentration. Moreover, we demonstrate that given the thermodynamic tendency of forming network defects like loops, the model can include such imperfections, enabling rheological properties to be used indirectly for the characterization of defect content. We outline general guidelines to extend the model to more intricate structures, enhancing our understanding of the structure–property relationship in complex transient polymer networks. Introduction: The outcome of orthodontic treatment depends on the malocclusion and the ratio of the size of the upper and lower teeth. The aim of this study was to evaluate the discrepancy of tooth crown size in different groups of malocclusions. Materials & Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 165 patients referred to the Orthodontic Department of Babol School of Dentistry were randomly selected. The samples were divided into three skeletal malocclusion groups (55 in each group) according to the ANB angle.
