This paper explores the relationship between emotional intelligence and psychological well-being among hearing-impaired students. Emotional intelligence consists of five dimensions namely intrapersonal, interpersonal, adaptability, stress management and general mood. A total of 130 hearing-impaired students were chosen as participants via simple random sampling at four polytechnics in Malaysia. The Bar-On Emotional Quotient: Short (EQ-i: S) and Ryff‘s Psychological Well-Being instruments were utilised to measure emotional intelligence and psychological well-being. It was found that in general, hearing impaired students have moderate emotional intelligence level and psychological well-being. Results also found that intrapersonal, interpersonal and adaptability dimensions correlated significantly with psychological well-being. No correlations were found between stress management and general mood dimensions with psychological well-being. Though limited by their ability to speak and to hear, emotional intelligence among hearing-impaired students does play a role in enhancing their individual capability to learn and to experience positive psychological well-being in life.

The aim of this study was to examine the influence of demographic factors on cognitive ability (memory and attention) among hearing-impaired students. Data from 163 hearing-impaired students were collected using simple random sampling at five polytechnics in Malaysia. The Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery (CANTAB) software were utilised to examine cognitive ability (memory and attention). Demographic factors consist of gender, hearing aid usage and parents’ hearing status. The results revealed that attention and memory differed according to hearing aid usage and parent’s status of hearing. No significant differences were found for memory and attention according to hearing-impaired gender. The findings of this study will enable the education authority to direct these special students in a way that best suits the institution and students goals.

Over the past decade, flood has become Malaysia’s most common natural disaster.Sustainable flood mitigation and relief management is important as it reflects the ruling government for dealing with crisis. The psychological support on victims’ wellbeing, during and after the disaster is substantial from the humanitarian perspective. Hence, this paper discusses the communication practices from indigenous perspective to help reduce the psychological impact of flooding. This paper presents qualitative data, based on in-depth interviews with 13 flood victims. The findings indicate that local values are important characteristics of effective communication surplus to the aids that bound to reduce the psychological impact of a disaster. This research intends to contribute in terms of the identification of the local code of conduct in communication in an attempt to obtain insights about flood disaster management. Besides, the outcome of the study could help to develop policies for aid agencies, information resources and community organisations in relation to the competency in communication to advocate the betterment and well-being of flood disaster victims.

Management education is not a rare domain anymore. People learn, study and teach management in a diversity of branches of knowledge or disciplines. In this perspective, management educators are required to be people-smart.The ability to administer their inner feelings as well as to work with people will improve the quality and effectiveness of management teaching. To reach this, personal intelligences which include general intelligence (Intelligence Quotient {IQ}), emotional intelligence (Emotional Quotient {EQ}) and interpersonal intelligence (People Quotient {PQ}) are essential. . This paper will tackle the issue of enhancing interpersonal intelligence (PQ), which also takes into account the aspect of emotional intelligence (EQ) among management educators. To ensure success in interpersonal intelligence, several criteria can well predict people’s quotient. These are the ability to understand students, the ability to grasp people/students’ ability to clearly establish thoughts and feelings, ability to ask and offer feedback, ability to serve as a determinant to how others act and think, ability to engage in and resolve conflicts, and, ability to work with others effectively. It is anticipated that management education will not only perform well in the content and structure but in the psychological aspects of management educators as well.

A pilot study involving 41 respondents was carried out in several neighboring areas in the northern part of Malaysia. The study results show that all six components have a high internal reliability value. These components of social capital are categorized into three levels namely low, moderate and high. The findings demonstrate that the majority of the four components are at the high level. They are participation in community activities, neighborhood connections, multi-racial tolerance, and, a sense of trust and protection whereas majority of the respondents for the components of proactivity in the social context and life values is at the moderate level.

- Abstract
Premarital pregnancy is a highly stigmatized phenomenon and may possibly be traumatic as well. However, there are adolescents and young adults who continue to commit premarital sex.The high likelihood of unwanted pregnancy will remain a serious concern in the Malaysian society which could lead to further psychosocial problems such as baby dumping, mental health problems, and health concerns among others.Despite experiencing the trauma and stigma of being pregnant and unmarried, there are teenagers and young women who decide to carry on with the pregnancy. This research seeks to examine the experiences of unmarried teenagers and young women who choose to continue their pregnancy while seeking protection in women’s shelters. The highlight of this paper is the profile of young mothers who sought protection in five women shelters throughout the country. The findings suggest disturbing information regarding sexual experience of young girls such as the early age of first sexual encounter, abortion attempt, the usage (non-usage) of contraception and the influence of the social circle environment.

- Abstract
Roles of nurses are undeniably significant in providing healthcare services to patients together with other healthcare professionals.According to current census, Malaysia has more than 78 thousand registered nurses working at the government and private hospitals. However, our country is still in short of trained nurses every year. The small wage and job dissatisfaction seem to be among the main factors of early retirement and job migration.According to recent findings, emotional intelligence can also affect an individual's perception towards job satisfaction.Hence, the study aims to identify the levels of job satisfaction and emotional intelligence of nurses, to examine the relationships between job satisfaction and emotional intelligence; and also to predict the most dominant dimension of emotional intelligence that can affect job satisfaction. Therefore, a study had been conducted in four government hospitals. A quantitative method was utilized and 383 female nurses were involved. The Job Descriptive Index (JDI) by Smith, Kendall and Hulin (1969) and the Bar-On Emotional Quotient Inventory: Short (EQ-i:S) by Bar-On (1997) were used. The results showed that the majority of respondents had moderate levels of job satisfaction and emotional intelligence; and there were significant correlations between these two variables. It is hoped that the results and implications of the study enhance the service quality of healthcare professionals.

Students of higher learning institutions inevitably face many problems during their studies. The problems faced are academic stress, time management, adjustment, teaching method, student-lecturer communication, learning environment and heavy workload. Students’ self-esteem and parenting styles also contributed towards such problems.
