Formaldehyde emissions of vehicles with combustion engines, burning oxygenated fuels are a major challenge for exhaust gas aftertreatment systems. This study shows the impact of such emissions for NH3-SCR, with a high NO2-ratio.

Covellite-phase CuS and carrollite-phase CuCo

Six N-alkylpyridinium salts [CnPy](2)[MCl4] (n = 4 or 12 and M = Co, Cu, Zn) were synthesized, and their structure and thermal properties were studied. The [C4Py](2)[MCl4] compounds are monoclinic and crystallize in the space group P2(1)/n. The crystals of the longer chain analogues [C12Py](2)[MCl4] are triclinic and crystallize in the space group P (1) over bar. Above the melting temperature, all compounds are ionic liquids (ILs). The derivatives with the longer C12 chain exhibit liquid crystallinity and the shorter chain compounds only show a melting transition. Consistent with single-crystal analysis, electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy suggests that the [CuCl4](2-) ions in the Cu-based ILs have a distorted tetrahedral geometry.

Covellite phase CuS and carrollite phase CuCo2S4 nano and microstructures were synthesized from tetrachloridometallate based ionic liquid precursors using a novel, facile, and highly controllable hot injection synthesis strategy. The synthesis parameters including reaction time and temperature were first optimized to produce CuS with a well controlled and unique morphology, providing the best electrocatalytic activity toward the oxygen evolution reaction OER . In an extension to this approach, the electrocatalytic activity was further improved by incorporating Co into the CuS synthesis method to yield CuCo2S4 microflowers. Both routes provide high microflower yields of gt;80 wt . The CuCo2S4 microflowers exhibit a superior performance for the OER in alkaline medium compared to CuS. This is demonstrated by a lower onset potential amp; 8764;1.45 V vs RHE 10 mA cm2 , better durability, and higher turnover frequencies compared to bare CuS flowers or commercial Pt C and IrO2 electrodes. Likely, this effect is associated with the presence of Co3 sites on which a better adsorption of reactive species formed during the OER e.g., OH, O, OOH, etc. can be achieved, thus reducing the OER charge transfer resistance, as indicated by X ray photoelectron spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements

This study addresses the fabrication of monodispersed iron-doped silver meso-hierarchical flower-like structures via a facile chemical procedure. The morphology of the obtained silver particles has been tuned by changing the concentration of the structure-directing agent (malonic acid). Ball-shaped silver particles were formed in the absence of malonic acid (MA), while silver particles with craspedia-globosa, chrysanthemum, and dahlia flower-like structures were obtained in the presence of 0.2, 0.5, and 1 mM malonic acid, respectively. Hexagonal p-type semiconductor CuS nanoplates were synthesized via a hot injection method from bis(trimethylsilyl) sulfide and the ionic liquid precursor bis(N-dodecylpyridinium) tetrachloridocuprate( II). The particles have a broad size distribution with diameters between 30 and 680 nm and well-developed crystal habits. The nanoplates were successfully incorporated into organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells as hole conduction materials. The power conversion efficiency of OPV cells fabricated with the nanoplates is 16% higher than that of a control device fabricated without the nanoplates. (C) 2018 Author(s).
