Industrial activities have the potential to make pollution in agricultural land, the waste contains poisonous material and it is dangerous for the environment. In general, waste from factory is dumped directly into the river, but in the current study an object that is going to be conscientious is soil on around mill. There are three sampling sites are around fertilizer plants, feed mills and original uncontaminated soil. This research has been conducted to assess the impact of pollution resulting from the two mills for the environment. Physical parameter that used is magnetic susceptibility. Sampling was conducted using the method of magnetic susceptibility of rock to see the value of low frequency (...lf) and shows Frequency Dependent (...fd%) using the MS2B Bartington. The results from this study is at a location close to the fertilizer plant at a depth of 0-5 cm has a value susceptibility low frequency (... lf)=187.1 - 494.8, ...fd (%)=1.37 - 2:46, at a depth of 6-10 cm susceptibility value of low frequency (...lf)=211 - 832.7, ...fd (%)=1.04 - 5.37. Results in the area of animal feed mill at a depth of 0-5 cm value susceptibility low frequency (...lf)=111.9 - 325.7, ...fd (%)=0.8 - 3.57, at a depth of 6-10 cm value susceptibility low frequency (...lf)=189.2 to 386.8, ...fd (%)=0.33 - 3.7. Results in the original soil at a depth of 0-5 cm susceptibility value of low frequency (...lf)=1188.7 - 2237.8, ...fd (%)=2.75 - 4.65, at a depth of 6-10 cm value susceptibility low frequency (...lf)=977.7 - 2134.7, ...fd (%)=3.06 - 6.21. The highest value was in the area ...lf original, shows the area has a high mineral content and ...lf lows were in the area near the factory fodder it is caused by high pollution, resulting in lower mineral content in the soil. Pesticides have been used for years to increase farm production by reducing and exterminating pests and plant diseases. Once they are poured into soil, physical, chemical and biological processes occur controlling the level of their persistence in the soil. This study focuses on the application of rock magnetism to study the properties of pesticide residues on soil. We investigate the effects on soil caused by dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) known as organochlorine (OC), a type of pesticide that is widely used by farmers. Results from the analysis of low frequency magnetic susceptibility show that addition of OC causes change in mineral type for diamagnetic and paramagnetic minerals, whereas for ferromagnetic mineral, addition of OC affects the magnetic susceptibility insignificantly. Results from the magnetic viscosity analysis indicate that addition of OC will reduce the magnetic susceptibility of soil. Based on SEM measurement, the amount of oxygen increases due to oxidation whereas Fe decreases. After OC addition the porous spaces decrease and the grain size reduces one grade from ferromagnetic to ferromagnetic and from ferromagnetic to diamagnetic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Magnetic properties and morphology of magnetic minerals from agricultural soils were identified to evaluate their potential as proxy indicator of pollution. The study was carried out by means of magnetic susceptibility measurement in dual frequencies and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. The samples were obtained by coring process as well as topsoils samples. The results showed that the low frequency magnetic susceptibility (XLF) of samples from topsoils are in the range of 26.1-104.4 (10-8 m³/kg), whereas core samples has magnetic susceptibility of 11-172.5 (10-8 m³/kg). It infers that the samples are dominated by ferrimagnetic minerals. The relative difference of magnetic susceptibility measured at two frequencies, namely XFD(%), is less than 4% for topsoils samples. The XFD(%) value of 1-4% are often found in soils contaminated by anthropogenic sources. Core samples has XFD(%) of 0-15%. It suggests that magnetic minerals in core sampels are from pedogenic and anthropogenic sources. According to SEM analysis, magnetic minerals with spherules shape was found in sample dominated by anthropogenic source. Magnetic minerals in sample with less contaminated has hedral shape.
