1. Plant diversity in Montel Muria Kudus Waterfall area for college student e-module development

Abstract

Many college students have difficulty in understanding the diversity and morphology of plants at the species level. The research aims to analyze the potential of species-level plant diversity in Montel Muria Kudus Waterfall, develop e-modules integrating local potential, and preserve the local potential of Montel Muria Kudus Waterfall. The research and development study design with the 4D model was implemented in this study to produce the e-module. E-module was tested on 30 Tadris Biology college students who assigned with random sampling technique. Data were collected with expert validations and trial. In Montel Muria Kudus Waterfall, various plant species groups were found, including ferns, epiphytes, shrubs, herbs, and trees. Instructional media expert validation obtained score of 95% which in the “very valid” category. Moreover, material experts scored of 91.66%, means in the “very valid” category. Practical feasibility analysis obtained score of 95.83%, represents the “very practical” category. The results of the college students’ N-Gain value of 56.7338, represents the category of “moderately effective” in improving science literacy. This research findings show that the e-module produced can potentially be widely implemented in biology instruction for improving college students’ science literacy skill as well as preserving local potential.

Abstract

Health literacy plays a pivotal role in shaping an individual's adoption of a healthy lifestyle, particularly among students transitioning into adolescence and adulthood. Hence, integrating health literacy into educational curricula is imperative. For instance, the study of the human kidney excretory system, which necessitates the use of measuring instruments, can serve as a platform to enhance students' health literacy skills within the realm of biology education. This study was conducted to develop and determine the feasibility of human kidney health literacy instruments. The research method used in this study is ADDIE development research which consists of 5 stages, including (1) preliminary needs analysis (2) product design (3) Development (4) Implementation, and (5) evaluation. The trial results stated that the instrument was feasible to use with a linguist assessment of 9.8% very feasible category, and a material expert of 91% very feasible category. The empirical validity test was conducted with a limited trial to 47 students of Al-Azhar 9 Yogyakarta High School and the results showed that 92% of the items were declared valid with a high reliability value of 0.7. This study produced 16 statement items on the attitude aspect, 6 items on the knowledge aspect, and items on the skill aspect. The total question items produced in this study were 24 question items that were valid and feasible to use as a tool to improve the quality of education.

Abstract

This study is research and development using modified design and development research (D&DR) model through three main phases: 1) design; 2) development; and 3) evaluation with the aim of establishing an instructional product for teaching and learning. Augmented reality technology was used to develop a Mobile Augmented Reality of Respiratory System (MARRS) which was proposed for conducting socio-scientific issue-based biology learning on the topic of respiratory system. The MARRS was designed to visualize the context of smoking. More specifically, students were able to observe the structure and function of the respiratory system, simulation of smoking effects on lungs, and lung’s disorder affected by smoking. Research findings show that there are three main aspects to be considered as the framework of the MARRS development: (1) the system design; (2) features; and (3) how to incorporate the MARRS into SSI-based biology learning. Once the MARRS was developed, it went through several round of validations by experts, practitioner, and users to evaluate its properness for teaching and learning. According to the validation criteria, the MARRS was categorized as very good in general. It can be concluded that the MARRS is proper to be implemented in teaching and learning of the respiratory system topic.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kelayakan e-modul materi sistem pertahanan tubuh dengan instagram sebagai bahan ajar biologi dan potensi efektivitas e-modul guna mengembangkan keterampilan argumentasi siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan jenis penelitian Research and Development dengan tahap Analysis, Design, dan Development. Subyek penelitian terdiri atas dua orang ahli materi biologi, dua orang ahli media pembelajaran biologi, satu guru biologi, dan 30 siswa kelas XI IPA di salah satu SMA di DI Yogyakarta. Data penelitian meliputi nilai kelayakan e-modul yang dikumpulkan menggunakan instrumen penilaian ahli materi biologi, ahli media, dan guru biologi, serta data kemampuan argumentasi siswa yang diperoleh dari soal pretest dan postes. Data penelitian dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa e-modul layak digunakan berdasarkan penilaian ahli materi biologi yaitu sebesar 92%, ahli media sebesar 81.5 %, dan hasil penilaian guru biologi yaitu sebesar 77.5% untuk indikator kelayakan modul tergolong layak. E-modul ini potensial efektif dalam meningkatkan keterampilan argumentasi siswa berdasarkan nilai gain score sebesar 0.54 yang berarti keterampilan argumentasi siswa setelah belajar menggunakan e-modul mengalami peningkatan dengan kategori sedang. This research aims to determine the feasibility of an e-module developed using Instagram as a biology instructional media on the topic of immune system and to find out its potential of effectiveness to develop students' argumentation skills. This research was conducted based on Research and Development framework through Analysis, Design, and Development stages. The subjects of the study were two biology experts, two biology instructional media experts, a biology teacher, and 30 grade-11 students of a high school in Yogyakarta province. The research data include the value judgements of the e-module feasibility which were collected using expert judgement sheets for biology experts, instructional media experts, and biology teachers, while data of students' argumentation skill obtained by pretest and posttest. All data were analyzed descriptively. The findings show that based on the feasibility judgements by 92% of biology experts reviews, 81.5% media experts reviews, and 77.5% of teacher review towards the feasibility criteria it is noted that the developed e-module is feasible to be used in biology instruction. Thus, the e-module is noticeably effective in fostering students’ argumentation skills based on the gain score obtained by 0.54 which means reached to medium category of students’ argumentation skill achievement.

5. Climate Change Education Implementation: The Voices of Policymakers, Professional Development Providers, and Teachers in Five Countries

Abstract

Climate change (CC) is the most significant global issue facing humanity, yet research addressing the perspectives of the key players influential in developing and implementing school-based CC curricula at a cross-country national level is scarce. This study examined the perceptions of policymakers, teacher professional development providers and CCE teachers in relation to: CC knowledge, representation in the curriculum, content and pedagogy, and support for teaching. The voices of these educators were gathered across five countries (Australia, England, Finland, Indonesia, and Israel) through semi-structured interviews. Analysis revealed much commonality across the countries and across role types. Although participants agreed that CCE is multidisciplinary and expressed widespread support for including CC in the curriculum through a cross-curriculum approach, their conceptualisations of CC knowledge were inconsistent. Participants recognised the importance of a science basis in CCE, and of student action, with some participants also emphasising emotional, ethical and value-based inclusions. Most suggested active learning focused pedagogies. Variations in approaches to CC implementation between countries suggest that CCE is in a transitional phase. In all five countries, the interviewees called for the curriculum to make more explicit connections to CC and for governmental leadership in supporting CCE, professional development and provision of resources.

Abstract

Study on e-learning implementation has been growing as a great interest particularly in biology education research and practice. Whilst a number of research has shown various modes of e-learning, however, there is still a lack of understanding on how e-learning can be applied for health literacy orientation in biology instruction. This research aimed to develop a conceptual framework of SSI-based e-learning in biology to promote student health literacy. This research was conducted in narrative inquiry design. Nine people including five biology teachers, two experts in health education and two science teachers who are practitioners in e-learning implementation were voluntarily participated in this research. Data of this research are experiences, knowledge, or perspectives that were expressed by participants and were collected through semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis approach was employed to analyse the data in three stages with trustworthiness and authenticity were applied for quality standard. Research findings show that there are three main aspects that need to be considered in developing an intended framework. These are: 1) e-learning platform could be used, 2) SSI-based learning pathways arranged in e-learning mode, and 3) additional e-learning elements need to be provided. Hence, these three aspects play essential roles in underpinning the framework of SSI-based e-learning in biology to promote student health literacy.

7. PENGEMBANGAN VLab UJI ZAT MAKANAN DENGAN MODEL DISCOVERY LEARNING UNTUK MENGEMBANGKAN KETERAMPILAN PROSES SAINS SISWA KELAS XI SMA

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk (1) untuk mengembangkan prototipe aplikasi media Virtual Laboratory Uji Zat Makanan, (2) mengetahui kelayakan dari media Virtual Laboratory Uji Zat Makanan dengan model pembelajaran discovery learning sebagai media pembelajaran biologi untuk siswa SMA kelas XI IPA. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan (RD) dengan model pengembangan ADDIE yang hanya dilakukan sampai tahap Development (ADD). Subjek dalam penelitian ini ialah dua ahli materi, dua ahli media, dua guru Biologi SMA, dan 28 siswa SMA kelas XI IPA. Pengumpulan data menggunakan instrumen review berupa angket skala Likert. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif kuantitatif. Penelitian ini menghasilkan produk berupa aplikasi Virtual Laboratory Uji Zat Makanan untuk siswa SMA kelas XI IPA pada materi pokok sistem pencernaani. Berdasarkan hasil penilaian ahli dan praktisi, serta tanggapan dari 28 siswa aplikasi Virtual Laboratory Uji Zat Makanan memenuhi kriteria minimal baik sehingga dapat dinyatakan layak untuk dikembangkan lebih lanjut.

8. PEMBELAJARAN BIOLOGI SECARA DARING DAN PENGARUHNYA TERHADAP KEMANDIRIAN BELAJAR DAN LITERASI DIGITAL SISWA

Abstract

Penelitian bertujuan untuk: (1) mengetahui pelaksanaan pembelajaran daring di kelas XI IPA SMA Negeri 12 Banyuasin III dan (2) mengathui gambaran tingkat kemandirian belajar serta (3) mengetahui gambaran komptensi literasi digital siswa dalam pembelajaran daring selama Pandemi Covid-19. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan studi kasus. Populasi penelitian yaitu peserta didik SMA Negeri 12 Banyuasin III dengan sampel penelitian yaitu peserta didik kelas XI IPA di SMA Negeri 12 Banyuasin III berjumlah 83 peserta didik yang diperoleh melalui teknik pusrposive sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan angket, pedoman wawancara dan soal tes literasi digital. Teknik analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa (1) pelaksanaan pembelajaran selama pandemi di SMA Negeri 12 Banyuasin III dilakukan dengan bantuan aplikasi pembelajaran Google Classroom, Google meet/Zoom Meeting, Quizizz, Youtube. (2) gambaran tingkat kemandirian belajar siswa Selama pembelajaran daring, menunjukan Siswa memiliki tingkat kemandirian belajar yang kuat. Berdasarkan dari hasil analisis persentase setiap indikator kemandirian belajar siswa, rata-rata persentase keseluruhan indikator sebesar 78,2 %. (3) komptensi literasi digital Siswa berdasarkan hasil analisis angket, persentase setiap indikator literasi digital siswa sebesar 71,5 %. Hasil uji tes soal literasi digital sebesar 76 %. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa indikator literasi digital siswa berada pada kategori tinggi.

10. Pengembangan Media Pembelajaran Biologi Berbasis Foto untuk Guru Biologi SMA di Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta

Abstract

Media belajar merupakan instrumen untuk meningkatkan kualitas proses pembelajaran. Media belajar yang banyak digunakan guru biologi antara lain gambar dan foto. Disisi lain saat ini kemajuan teknologi memungkinkan individu memiliki alat fotografi yang dapat digunakan untuk memproduksi foto yang baik. Program pengabdian pada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan dan kompetensi guru dalam memproduksi media pembelajaran berupa foto. Kegiatan berupa pelatihan/workshop fotografi biologi. Kegiatan dibagi menjadi 3 acara yaitu: 1) penyampaian materi konsep dasar fotografi biologi dan teknik-teknik pengambilan foto biologi, 2) penugasan pengambilan/hunting foto objek biologi dilingkungan sekitar, dan 3) pengemasan foto objek biologi dalam media pembelajaran. Kegiatan workshop diikuti oleh 13 guru biologi dari MGMP DIY yang berasal dari Kabupaten/Kota di DIY. Tampak peserta workshop telah memahami konsep dasar fotografi biologi. Peserta telah memiliki sensitivitas terhadap objek dan fenomena biologi dilingkungan sekitar yang dapat digunakan sebagai media pembelajaran.Kata kunci: fotografi biologi, objek biologi, media pembelajaran.

Abstract

The learning process carried out is still teacher-centered in conventional ways such as lectures and the lack of use of learning materials or supporting learning devices. This study aims to test the effectiveness of scientifically-based E-LKPD in improving students' critical thinking skills and learning interest in the body's defense system material. This type of research is quasi-experimental with a pre-test design and post-test control group design. The research was conducted at Senior High School 2 Sleman. Limited trials were conducted in class XI MIPA 1 and field trials were carried out in class XI MIPA II as an experimental class and class XI MIPA II as a control class. The sampling technique is carried out by cluster random sampling. Data collection used several instruments, namely interviews, needs analysis questionnaires, assessment questionnaires for material experts, media expert assessment questionnaires, RPP expert assessment questionnaires, syllabus expert assessment questionnaires, biology teacher assessment questionnaires, student response questionnaires, learning interest questionnaires, critical thinking test sheets. Data analysis techniques use the normality test, homogeneity test, T-test, Mann-Whitney test, and n-gain score. The results obtained from this study revealed that the use of scientifically-based E-LKPD in the learning process is effective in improving the critical thinking skills and learning interests of students. Improving students' critical thinking skills is included in the high category with an n-gain value of 0.76 and interest in learning with an n-gain value of 0.75 is also included in the high category.

12. The development of an online STEM teacher professional development package with the DECODE model: An innovative teacher’s quality maintenance

Abstract

Due to the global trend and the international application of STEM education as well as in/post-pandemic COVID-19 condition, this ongoing study aims to elucidate the development progress of an online STEM teachers’ professional development (STEM-TPD) package with the DECODE model. In this/post-pandemic era, online STEM education has been gradually emphasized. The researchers sustained the rationale for organizing STEM-TPDs to improve teacher practices by enhancing superior knowledge needed for the betterment of STEM implementations. Indeed, the DECODE model includes three stages: (1) DE: teacher’s DEmonstrations, (2) CO: students CO-train the use of cloud classroom, students CO-design an educational technology-integrated course, and (3) DE: students CO-teach, eventually students receive feedbacks and DEbrief what they have learned through the stages mentioned above. Moreover, face and content validity have been deployed to guarantee the quality of the developed packages. The ongoing result from this study is produced to validate the online STEM-TPD package with the DECODE model. Moreover, the package comprises manual training, a set of assessments, and an innovative webpage. Through this online DECODE model with the package, teachers are equipped: to familiarize themselves with various software technology and platforms; enhance their knowledge and abilities in assessment design, instructional design, and practical implementation (TPACK); to effectively teach or guide students in STEM activities, and to effectively improve their STEM literacy.

Abstract

Penulusuran literatur atau penelitian perihal praktik pembelajaran yang berorientasi pada literasi kesehatan khususnya melalui mata pelajaran sains-biologi di Indonesia menunjukkan bahwa pengembangan dan aplikasi desain instruksional belum banyak dihasilkan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kelayakan web pembelajaran biologi berbasis Socio-scientific issues (SSI) untuk diimplementasikan dalam pembelajaran biologi di SMA. Metode yang digunakan adalah research & development. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 2 ahli materi, 2 ahli media, 2 guru biologi, dan 20 siswa SMA. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan instrumen penilaian dan angket. Data kualitatif dianalisis secara deskriptif kualitatif sebagai bahan revisi media dan data kuatitatif menggunakan persentase untuk penilaian kelayakan. Hasil dari penelitian pengembangan ini adalah web pembelajaran biologi berbasis SSI topik sistem pernapasan untuk mengembangkan literasi kesehatan siswa SMA kelas XI. Web pembelajaran yang dikembangkan telah memenuhi kriteria kelayakan berdasarkan aspek konsep esensial materi biologi, informasi kajian biologi, bahasa kajian biologi, organisasi pembelajaran, dan operasional sajian web berdasarkan hasil penilaian dari ahli materi, ahli media, dan guru biologi. Berdasarkan hasil penilaian tersebut dapat disimpulkan web pembelajaran yang dkembangkan layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran biologi. Searching the literature or research on learning practices oriented towards health literacy, especially through science-biology subjects in Indonesia, showed that the development and application of instructional design has not been widely produced. This study aimed to determine the feasibility of a biology learning web based on Socio-scientific issues (SSI) to be implemented in biology learning in high school.The method used was research & development. The study subjects consisted of 2 material experts, 2 media experts, 2 biology teachers, and 20 high school students. Data collection was carried out using assessment instruments and questionnaires. Qualitative data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively as media revision material and quantitative data using percentages for feasibility assessment.The result of this development research is a biology learning web based on SSI on the topic of the respiratory system to develop health literacy for high school students. The developed learning web has the feasibility criteria based on aspects of the essential concepts of biological material, information and language of biological studies, learning organization, and web presentation operation. It was Based on the results of assessments from material experts, media experts, biology teachers and limited trial test. Based on the results of the assessment, it can be concluded that the learning web developed is suitable for use in biology learning.
