This service activity aims to improve women's life skills in processing the potential of the village, namely watermelon into an agribusiness product that has a high economic selling value. The method of implementing this service uses training with target partners, namely housewives, and women of productive age in Gapura village, Central Lombok Regency, NTB. The results of this service show that this activity could improve the ability and skills of the people of Gapura Village to process watermelon into products with more selling value, namely watermelon peel and jelly candy. In addition, this activity could increase the knowledge of Gapura Village women to process agricultural products based on agribusiness. Based on the results of the evaluation, most of the partners responded that this training was very useful in improving life skills by obtaining a percentage of 55%.

Goal: The main objective of this study was to evaluate the preference structure for MSS certifications in a Brazilian supply chain. Design/methodology/approach: To form the set of attributes, five MSS were selected that certify companies in the Brazilian sugarcane supply chain, and a sample of 66 large and medium-sized companies in operation was obtained. Results: The results show that the Brazilian sugarcane companies supply chain presented a higher preference for suppliers with ISO 9001 (38.7%), ISO 22000 (19.9%), ISO 14001 (19.6%), OHSAS 18001 (13.2%) and ISO 27001 (8.6%) certification and contribute to the literature by offering new and broader insight into industrial buying behavior in the business-to-business context with respect to the adoption of MSS. Limitations of the investigation: The low number of observations may be a factor limiting the investigation. And the study is limited to sugar-alcohol companies in Brazil. Practical implications: Companies within the supply chain still prefer the traditional certifications, even when the market is saturated with such certifications. These results help better explain industrial behavior and illuminate the relationships that companies develop within the supply chain, that might thus be of great assistance to suppliers wishing to become part of this supply chain by identifying which MSS certifications are most valued by purchasing companies. Originality/value: The article analyzes which MSS are most important for the Brazilian companies of sugar cane and ethanol. And can be of great value to managers, suppliers, and stakeholders in this industry, as well as a model for developing countries.

Purpose – This research aims to identify and analyze the relationship between the elements that make up maize and soybean production costs and the revenue earned from the respective productive activities. Design/methodology/approach – We used production cost data from Conab and the market price of maize and soybean obtained from FAO in our analyses. These data were analyzed from 1997 to 2016. The study is based on the Neoclassical Theory of Firm and its subdivision: Cost Theory. Findings – The data showed that the variables related to the production costs of maize and soybean are associated with the gross revenue ha-1. Therefore, it is possible to predict them from the regression equations. Based in these findings, farmers will have a tool that may be used in making of the best decision when they purchase agricultural inputs. Originality/value – The main contribution of this paper relates to the possibility to predict maize and soybean revenue from the cost variables that are part of the production cost of these commodities. In this context, an interpretation of production costs, analyzing the variables involved in the cost of the crops, and with a consequent evaluation of the information on the gross revenue ha-1, enables information to be obtained for decision-making regarding the agricultural activities.

The purpose of this article is to analyze the relationship between organizational capabilities and the competitive performance of BRF Foods, using the Resource Based View method. It is a case study, developed in agribusiness with the controller of the BRF unit located in Concordia, Santa Catarina. A document analysis of sustainability and management reports was also conducted for the year 2014. It was found that technology, central planning of raw materials and centrally planned sales are considered valuable resources. Improvement of the usage conditions of natural resources (finite), through the reduction of water and energy consumption and programs for the sustainability of agriculture, pig farming and poultry farming are considered rare resources. Design, R & D, given technology, market vision and the existence of exclusive contract are difficult resources to imitate. Among the organizational resources, brand, structured distribution capacity, development of new products and market niches are particularly important.

The agribusiness topics ofcolored cottonand fashion do not have any practical scientific literature published on the subject,only when the theme is treated primarily as the aim of sustainability. Colored and agroecological cotton, despite the limitation in color,could become an industrial production with less environmental, impact using less water. The aim of this study was to present the colored fiber and organic cotton, produced by small farmers in the Northeast region of Brazil, as an alternative product to promote sustainability in cotton agribusiness and the textile industry, and to identify the lack of scientific studies related to the theme. Surveys were carried out on available national literature and international database publications on the topic, and the results of research on toxic products used for the production of white cotton and textile industry were presented. Governmental incentives through funding agencies to farmers engaged in this production are suggested, in order to improve production and distribution. It is also necessary to provide the infrastructure necessary for this product to reach the global market, including in cooperation with poorer countries in order to promote changes in environmental impact worldwide in the fashion industry

The Instituto Agronômico (IAC) is a public institution that was founded in 1887 and has the mission of generating science and transferring technologies for the agricultural sector. This paper describes the main achievements in plant breeding and the use of IAC’s cultivars. The impact in the agribusiness sector is demonstrated by the release of research results, especially in the form of products such as seeds and seedlings of 90 species. Out of these, 955 cultivars were properly described, characterized and made available to farmers (636 of them are registered in the National Cultivar Registration Service). Between 1932 and 2012, IAC released an average of 12 cultivars per year, and in the period of 2003 to 2012, 185 cultivars were registered (one new cultivar every 20 days). The results can be evaluated by the representativeness of IAC in the use, customs and food preferences, among other possible measurements on the economic impact and/or return on investments made in the Institution.

Agriculture needs an industry structure that optimizes resources sustainably. It is also a way of life for millions around the world who engage into it with the complementary objectives of obtaining income and relating to nature. Competitiveness in agribusiness as a topic has focused on macroeconomic aspects that explain structural aspects and their dynamics. Objective: To identify the conceptual referents of agriculture regarding the system, chain, company and business for exportation. Methodology: Concept systematization and documental sources revision. Frame of Reference: Agribusiness is a field under construction. The results: Modern agriculture, productive, technified, sustainable and competitive is a viable option as a business, and as such has been understood by the countries that promote it as a trade alternative.

How do you see the competition in your industry? How do you see your business dealing with the actual situation? Thereare of course several and different answers to these questions, depending on your competitive mode. Maybe it is a choice of market strategy, cost strategy, resource-based strategy, institutional strategy, or my choice of approach,namely a structural strategy. More precisely, I am looking at the economic organization of production, what Williamson (1991) names second-order economizing – regarding the governance structures. We are not doing the mathematics in trying to calculate efficiency, losses or benefits, as we do not have access to that kind of data. In some countries it would be possible to get hold of economic data that would make it possible to calculate possible benefits, while in other countries, companies are not required to go public with their accountings. You will find that companies deliberately tamperwith their financial statements (‘cook their books’), when asked about details in the economy of the production. Going along with the possibilities, what we do want to achieve is a better understanding of why different governance structures are chosen within the same industry. In this article we look at two companies engaged in large-scale industrial production,where one company is located in Brazil and the other in Denmark. The setups of the companies are completely different, where in Brazil strong vertical integration and control is emphasized, this is not equally prominent in Denmark.

This activity aims to foster the farmers who are members of Gapoktan Seroja I Kandang Limun, Bengkulu to initiate oyster mushroom cultivationas one of the prospective agribusinesses in Bengkulu. This business was chosen due to the fungus growing medium are available in huge quantities and being waste around Kandang Limun. Further, Oyster mushroom demand and price are high. This event is a program of Ipteks bagi Masyarakat (IBM) in collaboration with the Lembaga Pengabdian Masyarakat (LPM). Training activities include the cultivation, manufacture kumbung measuring 3x4m which capacity of 2000 baglogs, baglog manufacture, sterilization baglog, inoculation, incubation for 3-6 weeks until the harvesting and marketing. Gapoktan Seroja I have been able to make ± 1500 baglog and have been able to produce white oyster mushroom ± 5 to10 kg per day. Fresh mushrooms sold at Rp. 20,000- 24.000/kg. With good management and sustainable production, the oyster mushroom cultivation can be one of the prospective agribusiness for Gapoktan Seroja I Kandang Limun, Bengkulu.

The Brazilian Amazon has become an appropriate space for large hydroelectric projects and expansion of soybean agribusiness, mobilizing national and international companies in search of new areas to transform nature into a commodity. Such geography becomes more complex when the disputed territory reaches traditional communities, which suffer social and territorial pressure from this modeling process on the region. Thus, these processes are analyzed over the riverside communities affected by the Madeira hydroelectric power plants, in Porto Velho (Rondônia), and the communities of small holders living in Belterra and Santarém (Pará). The conclusion is that these social groups have their territories transformed by the expansion of capital in the Amazon, in regions that had not yet been transformed into commodities. It means that traditional Amazonian communities, even inhabiting remote areas in the Amazon, are threatened in their socio-territorial condition.
