Abstract

Due to yearly uneven rainfall distribution, exsiccation of water availability, specifically during the summer in the agricultural field in Saurashtra, is a usual scenario. Saurashtra region's land formation contains Basalt rock. The area is categorized under the semi-arid region. Hence, the Groundwater condition was observed to be poor as the self-characteristic of land for water-storage capacity for the Basalt is negligible within its strata. Mining Engineering and Groundwater Improvement Techniques were incorporated to find a way out of water stress conditions. An experimental study was carried out for mass blasting with the permission of the Government body and an expert team of mining explosions at the study area within the catchment of check dams and river beds. A group containing five borewells was blasted at a 27, 18, and 9 m depth, respectively. In each borehole, 15 blasts of 2.76 unit explosion were exploded together by sealing a cover of sand over it. The impact assessment of 30 wells was monitored Post-blast within the range of 400m of the Bore Blasting Technique (BBT) performed. As a result, a rise in water level up to 19m has been recorded near the streamline of BBT performed. In addition, the movement of the water was diverted from its parental aquifer to the observed dug wells. Hence, it is concluded that channelizing the groundwater can be possible by incorporating BBT in the basalt region, and identical improvement can also possible interms of fractured basalt rock and availability of water in the basalt region. 27. Drought assessment using inquisitive method - a case of Rajkot, Gujarat, India

Abstract

The study leads to the identification of drought situations and drought condition patterns observed. Rainfall data for the last 74 years was used as the study area. The statistical dispensation functions which include gamma function, exponential function, Weibull function, and lognormal function are primarily adapted and matched to data (precipitation) analysed for assorted time scales, based on which the suitable functions are chosen according to the situation. Time scale 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24 (for all classes of drought) was analysed. These threshold values are important for the step-wise implementation while making decisions by taking the needful consideration for its response. Study results are helpful to find and forecast a level of preventive steps needed to plan to get rid of scarcity of water. As a result, relentlessness and frequency of utmost drought are identified. Therefore, relentlessness and frequency of utmost drought can be identified by using the proposed method.

28. Comparative analysis of 1D hydrodynamic flood model using globally available DEMs – a case of the coastal region

Abstract

Flooding is a natural catastrophe that can lead to major disasters and hence it becomes necessary to develop precautionary measures to minimise flood impacts. The present study is a comparative analysis of three globally available DEMs in flood modelling. This research demonstrates the usefulness of the SRTM in 1D hydrodynamic flood modelling using HEC-RAS mapper on the River Purna at Navsari city, Gujarat, India. Additionally, other DEMs like ALOS PALSAR, and Cartosat-1 are used to make a comparative analysis. The outcomes of these models are compared with the observed data; the R2values for ALOS PALSAR, Cartosat 1, and SRTM are 0.9677, 0.9342, and 0.9914, respectively, which shows that SRTM provides the best match with the observed values. The approach presented in this study gives the applicability of the DEMs for flood modelling in the data-scarce region, which will be helpful for decision-makers to take precautionary measures and to predict the severity caused by an event.

Abstract

Keratoacanthoma (KA) is a relatively common skin lesion. We report a case of KA-mimicking squamous cell carcinoma in a 40-year old smoker, who was also having speckeled leukoplakia on the buccal mucosa. The present case highlights the importance of histopathological diagnosis, as the treatment in latter case is aggressive, which is unnecessary if attempted with KA. Moreover, the present report provides an overview of such lesions, which could be encountered in clinical situations for which definitive diagnosis is of paramount importance before the starting of treatment plan. 31. Problems in dyeing of draw textured yarns.

Abstract

The article presents information on problems with dyeing of draw textured yarns. It notes that draw texturing can be defined as a process during which an incompletely drawn feeder yarn is drawn to the intended yarn size and textured in a continuous manner. It is inferred that draw textured yarn presents a different concept in terms of dyeing. It explores the four basic steps of the dyeing process. It explains the function of the carrier under high-temperature package-dyeing conditions. It describes oligomers as a white or grey deposit that makes winding and knitting difficult.
