Objectives: The whole-body vibration (WBV) effects on muscle strength show inconsistent results. Moreover, there is no study about the WBV effect on stiffness, elasticity, and muscle strength. Therefore, the study aimed to examine the effect of WBV exposure with static squat posture on the stiffness, elasticity, and strength of the lower-limb extensor muscles. Material and methods: Forty healthy untrained young adults were divided into WBV and control groups. The experimental group received WBV exposure on 2 nonconsecutive days of the week, for 6 weeks. The MyotonPRO device was used for the assessment of the knee extensor and the ankle dorsiflexors' stiffness and elasticity. Isometric muscle strength was evaluated with a hand-held dynamometer. All measurements were done by the same assessor at baseline, and the following 6 weeks. Results: Significant group-by-time interactions were found for the elasticity scores of the right (d = 0.84, P = .01) and left (d = 0.77, P = .02) ankle dorsiflexors. Similar to the elasticity measurements, significant group-by-time interactions were observed in the muscle strength scores of the right (d = 0.45, P = .046) and left (d = 1.25, P < .001) ankle dorsiflexors. No significant effects were observed in any of the evaluated muscle stiffness measurements (P > .05), and there was no significant group-by-time interaction in knee-extensor muscle strength and elasticity scores (P > .05). Conclusions: The study results indicate that if the ankle dorsiflexor strength and elasticity are desired to be increased, the 6-week WBV exposure in a static squat posture can be used in healthy individuals. Context: Induced mental fatigue negatively impacts sport performance and neurocognition. However, it is unclear how induced mental fatigue influences landing biomechanics. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of mental fatigue on drop landing biomechanics in individuals with and without a concussion history. Design: Crossover design. Methods: Forty-eight (24 per group) recreationally active individuals were matched on age (±3 y), sex, and body mass index (±1 kg/m²). All participants completed an experimental (30-min Stroop task) and control (30-min reading magazines) intervention on separate days separated by a minimum of 24 hours. Drop landings were performed before and after both interventions. Outcomes included peak vertical ground reaction force (vGRF), vertical loading rate (VLR), knee flexion angle, knee abduction angle, external knee flexion moment, external knee abduction moment, and initial ground contact knee flexion and knee abduction angles. Separate 2 (group) x 2 (intervention) between-within analyses of covariance compared drop landing outcomes. Each group's average pre-Stroop and premagazine outcomes were covariates. Results: There was a significant interaction for vGRF (P = .033, ηp²=.097) and VLR (P = .0497, ηp²=.083). The vGRF simple effects were not statistically significantly (P range = .052-.325). However, individuals with a concussion history displayed a medium effect size for greater vGRF post-Stroop compared with their own postmagazine vGRF (mean difference (95% confidence interval [95% CI] = 0.163 (-0.002 to 0.327) bodyweight (BW), p =.052, ηp²=.081. In contrast, the control group displayed a small effect size (mean difference [95% CI] = 0.095 [-0.069 to 0.259] BW, p =.251, ηp²=.029). Individuals with a concussion history displayed greater VLR post-Stroop compared with controls (mean difference [95% CI], 26.29 [6.19 to 46.40] BW/s, P = .012, ηp²=.134) and their own postmagazine values (mean difference [95% CI] = 32.61 [7.80 to 57.42] BW/s, p =.011, ηp²=.135). Conclusion: Mental fatigue leads to greater VLR for individuals with a concussion history. Athletic competition and activities of daily living can increase mental fatigue. To determine needs, expectations, facilitators, and barriers of insurance physicians (IPs) for using eHealth in their work. Also, we investigated differences between age groups. All insurance physicians employed at the Dutch Social Security Institute (SSI) received an online anonymous survey in July 2020. Three hundred and fifteen IPs (31%) responded. According to these IPs, the most important need for using eHealth was to collect medical information more effectively and efficiently (71%). Main facilitators were that eHealth could make IPs' work more effectively and efficiently (61%) and more future-proof (60%). Main barriers were losing human interaction (54%) and security issues (51%). Younger IPs saw more options for using eHealth, compared to older IPs. The majority of IPs (in particular younger IPs) had a positive view towards using eHealth in their daily work. Nevertheless, differences in needs, expectations, facilitators and barriers between the age groups should be taken into account for the successful development and implementation of interventions using eHealth in insurance medicine. For the successful development and implementation of eHealth interventions in insurance medicine and rehabilitation, the needs, expectations, facilitators, and barriers that physicians indicate should be taken into account. Insurance physicians support the use of eHealth interventions to collect medical information more effectively and efficiently, to contribute to and maintain the quality of care, in the perspective of managing expected shortages in insurance physicians. When concretizing eHealth interventions for rehabilitation professionals, one should take the importance of face to face interaction with patients into account. Extra education and training for older insurance physicians may improve the implementation of eHealth interventions, because they are less inclined to see its value and feel less competent to use it. Purpose. To characterize societal participation profiles after moderate-severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) along objective (Frequency) and subjective (Satisfaction, Importance, Enfranchisement) dimensions. Materials and Methods. We conducted secondary analyses of a TBI Model Systems sub-study (N = 408). Multiaxial assessment of participation included the Participation Assessment with Recombined Tools-Objective and -Subjective questionnaires (Participation Frequency and Importance/Satisfaction, respectively) and the Enfranchisement Scale. Participants provided responses via telephone interview 1–15 years post-injury. Multidimensional participation profiles (classes) were extracted using latent profile analysis. Results. A 4-class solution was identified as providing maximal statistical separation between profiles and being clinically meaningful based on profile demographic features. One profile group (48.5% of the sample) exhibited the "best" participation profile (High Frequency, Satisfaction, Importance, and Enfranchisement) and was also the most advantaged according to socioeconomic indicators. Other profile groups showed appreciable heterogeneity across participation dimensions. Age, race/ethnicity, education level, ability to drive, and urbanicity were features that varied between profiles. Conclusions. Societal participation is a critical, but inherently complex, TBI outcome that may not be adequately captured by a single index. Our data underscore the importance of a multidimensional approach to participation assessment and interpretation using profiles. The use of participation profiles may promote precision health interventions for community integration. Educators are required to use evidence-based practices to support student development of academic skills. Results from single-case experimental designs are well suited for this purpose and may be more flexible for applied use than group-based designs. However, educators also require information about which interventions work for whom and under what conditions. Although previous reviews of single-case experimental designs exist, most focused on design characteristics related to internal validity. The purpose of this U.S. study was to determine the participant characteristics within multiple-baseline and multiple-probe across participant designs targeting academic skills. Representation of various demographic subgroups differ between studies targeting different academic skill areas (mathematics, reading, and writing). However, reporting was often inconsistent, with a substantial proportion of records omitting information about participants' race/ethnicity, economic status, and English learner status. Background: Laparoscopic anatomical resection of segment 7 (LARS7) remains a technically challenging procedure due to the deep anatomical location and the potential risk of injury to the right hepatic vein (RHV). Herein, we initiated an innovative technique of caudo-dorsal approach combined with the occlusion of the RHV and Pringle maneuver for LARS7 and presented the outcomes of our initial series. Method: Since January 2021, the patients who underwent LARS7 by using this novel technique were enrolled in this study. The critical aspect of this technique was the interruption of communication between the RHV and the inferior vena cava. Meanwhile, the Pringle maneuver was adopted to control the hepatic inflow. Result: A total of 11 patients underwent LARS7 by using this novel technique, which included 8 hepatocellular carcinoma, 2 bile duct adenocarcinoma and one focal nodular hyperplasia. The median operative time was 199 min (range of 151–318 min) and the median blood loss was 150 ml (range of 50–200 ml). The main trunk of the RHV was fully exposed on the cutting surface in all cases and no patient received perioperative blood transfusion. No procedure was converted to open surgery. Of note, no indications of CO2 gas embolism were observed in these cases after the introduction of double occlusion. Only one patient suffered from postoperative complications and healed after treatment. The median postoperative stay was 5 days (range of 4–7 days). The 90-day mortality was nil. At a median follow-up period of 19 months, all of the patients were alive without any evidence of tumor recurrence. Conclusion: The caudo-dorsal approach combined with the occlusion of RHV and the Pringle maneuver may be a feasible and expected technique for safe exposure of RHV in LARS7. Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a common co-morbidity in patients who receive esophagectomy and has unfavorable effects on glucose and lipid metabolism in patients. This study examines how weight and glycolipid metabolism change in patients with T2DM following esophagectomy. Methods: This retrospective, one-center, observational analysis with a propensity score matching analysis (PSM) included 114 patients who underwent esophageal surgery in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, the 900th Hospital of Joint Logistic Support Force from 2017 to 2020, which were separated into T2DM group and Non-T2DM group. Weight, body mass index (BMI), fasting plasma glucose (FPG), triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) were measured and analyzed before and after the operation. Results: Two groups showed similar reductions in weight and BMI after surgery. In the T2DM group, weight decreased from 63.10(10.31) before surgery to 55.10(11.60) kg at 6 months (P < 0.001) with BMI decreasing from 22.67 (2.90) to 19.77 (3.48); While in the Non-T2DM group, weight decreased from 61.42 (8.46) to 53.19 (9.26) kg at 6 months after surgery with BMI decline from 22.49 (2.77) before operation to 19.45 (3.08) at 6 months after surgery. Fasting plasma glucose levels showed a significant decrease (P = 0.035) in the T2DM group at a six-month point of 7.00 (2.21) mmol/L compared to preoperative levels of 7.67 (2.32) mmol/L. HDL levels increased significantly in the Non-T2DM group at six months postoperatively at 1.52 (0.05) with P < 0.001 compared to preoperative levels of 1.22(0.04) mmol/L. TG, LDL, and TC levels decreased significantly in both groups from the preoperative to the 6-month point. Conclusions: Esophagectomy induces weight loss in T2DM and Non-T2DM groups, improves long-term glucose metabolism in the T2DM group, and enhances lipid metabolism in both groups. Introduction: Surgery is currently the only effective treatment for retroperitoneal tumors that do not involve any specific organ. The use of robots for removing both benign and malignant retroperitoneal tumors is considered safe and feasible. However, there is insufficient evidence to determine whether robotic retroperitoneal tumor resection (RMBRs) is superior to open retroperitoneal malignant resection (OMBRs). This study compares the short-term outcomes of robotic excision of benign and malignant retroperitoneal tumors with open excision of the same-sized tumors. Methods: The study compared demographics and outcomes of patients who underwent robotic resection (n = 54) vs open resection (n = 54) of retroperitoneal tumors between March 2018 and December 2022. A 1:1 matching analysis was conducted to ensure a fair comparison. Results: The study found that RBMRs resulted in reduced operative time (OT), estimated blood loss (EBM), and postoperative hospital stay (PSH) when compared to OBMRs. Additionally, RBMRs reduced EBL, PHS, and OT for patients with malignant tumor involvement in major vessels. No significant differences were found in tumor size, blood transfusion rate, and morbidity rate between the RBMRs and OBMRs groups. Conclusion: When comparing RMBRs to OMBRs, it was observed that RMBR was associated with lower (EBL), shorter postoperative hospital stays (PHS), and reduced operative time (OT) in a specific group of patients with both benign and malignant tumors. Background: Paraesophageal hernia repairs (PEHRs) have high rates of radiographic recurrence, with some patients requiring repeat operation. This study characterizes patients who underwent PEHR to identify the factors associated with postoperative symptom improvement and radiographic recurrence. We furthermore use propensity score matching to compare patients undergoing initial and reoperative PEHR to identify the factors predictive of recurrence or need for reoperation. Methods: After IRB approval, patients who underwent PEHR at a tertiary care center between January 2018 and December 2022 were identified. Patient characteristics, preoperative imaging, operative findings, and postoperative outcomes were recorded. A computational generalization of inverse propensity score weight was then used to construct populations of initial and redo PEHR patients with similar covariate distributions. Results: A total of 244 patients underwent PEHR (78.7% female, mean age 65.4 ± 12.3 years). Most repairs were performed with crural closure (81.4%) and fundoplication (71.7%) with 14.2% utilizing mesh. Postoperatively, 76.5% of patients had subjective symptom improvement and of 157 patients with postoperative imaging, 52.9% had evidence of radiographic recurrence at a mean follow-up of 10.4 ± 13.6 months. Only 4.9% of patients required a redo operation. Hernia type, crural closure, fundoplication, and mesh usage were not predictors of radiographic recurrence or symptom improvement (P > 0.05). Propensity weight score analysis of 50 redo PEHRs compared to a matched cohort of 194 initial operations revealed lower rates of postoperative symptom improvement (P < 0.05) but no differences in need for revision, complication rates, ED visits, or readmissions. Conclusions: Most PEHR patients have symptomatic improvement with minimal complications and reoperations despite frequent radiographic recurrence. Hernia type, crural closure, fundoplication, and mesh usage were not significantly associated with recurrence or symptom improvement. Adolescents who enjoy physical education (PE) classes are more likely to be active during out-of-school hours. Similarly, achievement goal theory suggests that task-oriented motivation is associated with higher levels of reported fun during PE classes. In contrast, ego-oriented motivation has been related to boredom in class, but some self-perceptions (e.g., self-esteem or motoric self-efficacy) may modify this relationship and are important for physical activity. Our aim in this paper was to analyze the relationships between motivational orientation and fun and boredom in PE classes by assessing the mediating effects of self-esteem and self-efficacy. We surveyed 478 teenagers between 13 and 18 years of age (M = 14.57; SD = 1.15) with the Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire (TEOSQ), the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE), the Motor Self-Efficacy Scale (MSES), and the Intrinsic Satisfaction in Sport Scale (SSI-EF). We used a structural equation model to evaluate relationships between these variables of interest. We found a positive relationship between ego orientation and boredom and between task orientation and fun; and we found a negative relationship between task orientation and boredom in PE classes. Importantly, we observed indirect effects from self-esteem and motoric self-efficacy in the relationships between motivational orientation and boredom and fun in PE. These results highlight the importance of students' motivational orientations in PE classes and illustrate that self-perception of self-esteem and motoric self-efficacy can mediate these relationships. Background: Being a chronic and prevalent disease in older adults, Alzheimer's disease requires extensive and long-term care from caregivers. The disease significantly increases the burden on family caregivers and can cause physical and mental disorders for them, ultimately hindering their ability to provide adequate care for the patients. Objectives: The aim of the present study was to determine the relationship between care burden and health anxiety among the family caregivers of the older adults with Alzheimer's disease. Materials and Methods: A correlational cross-sectional study enrolled 150 family caregivers who had been providing direct care to older adults with Alzheimer's disease for at least six months, chosen by continuous sampling. The study collected data using the Caregiver Burden Inventory (CBI) and Health Anxiety Inventory (HAI-18) at the Iranian Alzheimer's Association in 2021. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software version 25, employing independent t-tests, analysis of variance, and regression analysis. Results: The results indicated that 75 (50%) caregivers had a moderate level of health anxiety, while 43.3% of them reported being anxious about their health to a poor degree. Additionally, 46.6% and 43.3% of caregivers experienced moderate and intense care burden, respectively. Among the other variables studied such as age, sex, level of education, marital status, and economic status, only health anxiety was found to predict the care burden in caregivers of patients with Alzheimer's disease (P < 0.001). Conclusion: Since there is a significant relationship observed between health anxiety and care burden, it is important for health professionals and caregivers of older adults with Alzheimer's disease to prioritize the health of the caregivers. Phubbing—i.e. excluding and ignoring others through smartphone use—is a pervasive phenomenon. Yet, a comprehensive understanding of its consequences is still lacking. This systematic meta-analytic review aimed to (1) synthesize the associations between being phubbed and emotional and cognitive, social, and behavioural well-being, (2) test the strength of these associations, and (3) investigate moderating influences. Literature searches according to PRISMA-guidelines yielded k = 83 included studies. Random-effects meta-analyses were conducted for 24 of 72 extracted consequences. Subgroup analyses were performed for phubbees' relationship to interlocutors, age group, and study design. The overall sample was N = 53,916 with a mean age of 19.68 years. Being phubbed was moderately to strongly (e.g. $\hat{{\rm \rho }}$ ρ ˆ =.23–.75) associated with various adverse consequences (e.g. depression, relationship dissatisfaction, derogation of interlocutors, smartphone addiction). Effects were larger for adolescents than for adults. The findings are in line with existing theoretical assumptions (e.g. the temporal need-threat model of ostracism) corroborating that phubbing is a detrimental experience. Thus, phubbing appears to be a public health issue which should be addressed through suitable interventions in order to enhance healthy human-human and human-technology interactions. Perampanel (PER) is a new type of antiseizure medication used for partial or generalized seizures. However, the plasma concentration shows obvious individual variability in children. The present study aims to ascertain the effect of age, comedications, and cytochrome P450 (CYP) 3A4/5 polymorphisms on PER exposure in Chinese pediatric patients with epilepsy. Clinical data were retrospectively collected in a tertiary children's hospital medical records system from January 2021 to December 2022. The influence factors on the daily dose, plasma concentration, and concentration‐to‐dose ratio (CDR) of PER were investigated. A total of 135 pediatric patients with 178 blood samples were involved. With a median daily dose of 4.0 mg (interquartile range, 3.0‐5.0 mg), the median plasma concentration was 409.4 ng/mL (interquartile range, 251.7‐639.4 ng/mL). The CDR in patients aged less than 4 years was significantly decreased by 48.0% and 39.1% compared with those aged 4‐11 years and 12 years or older, respectively. Enzyme inducers significantly decreased the CDR of PER by 34.5%, while valproic acid showed an increase of 71.7%. In addition, genotype CYP3A5*3/*3 carriers presented a significant increase of 21.5% compared to the CYP3A5*1/*3 expresser. No correlations were observed between the CDR and CYP3A4∗1G polymorphism. PER showed high variations in individual plasma concentrations. Age younger than 4 years, comedication with enzyme inducers or valproic acid, and possession of the CYP3A5*3 genotype potentially predicted PER exposure in pediatric patients with epilepsy. The determination of the appropriate initial dose for tacrolimus is crucial in achieving the target concentration promptly and avoiding adverse effects and poor prognosis. However, the trial‐and‐error approach is still common practice. This study aimed to establish a prediction model for an initial dosing algorithm of tacrolimus in patients receiving a lung transplant. A total of 210 lung transplant recipients were enrolled, and 26 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) from 18 genes that could potentially affect tacrolimus pharmacokinetics were genotyped. Associations between SNPs and tacrolimus concentration/dose ratio were analyzed. SNPs that remained significant in pharmacogenomic analysis were further combined with clinical factors to construct a prediction model for tacrolimus initial dose. The dose needed to reach steady state tacrolimus concentrations and achieve the target range was used to validate model prediction efficiency. Our final model consisted of 7 predictors—CYP3A5 rs776746, SLCO1B3 rs4149117, SLC2A2 rs1499821, NFATc4 rs1955915, alanine aminotransferase, direct bilirubin, and hematocrit—and explained 41.4% variance in the tacrolimus concentration/dose ratio. It achieved an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.804 (95% confidence interval, 0.746‐0.861). The Hosmer‐Lemeshow test yielded a nonsignificant P value of.790, suggesting good fit of the model. The predicted dose exhibited good correlation with the observed dose in the early postoperative period (r = 0.748, P less than.001). Our study provided a genotype‐guided prediction model for tacrolimus initial dose, which may help to guide individualized dosing of tacrolimus in the lung transplant population in clinical practice. Children with chronic illness are found to be at greater risk for psychiatric problems, including depression, anxiety and feelings of isolation. Particularly, HIV positive children in underdeveloped nations are more likely experiencing psychological disorders and live with socially alienated social support systems. In present study, institution-based cross-sectional research design was employed to assess the prevalence of mental health distress among HIV positive children 115(F = 69) in Ethiopia. Systematic random sampling technique was used to select participants. Quantitative data were collected with standardized instruments. Nurse Counsellors and case managers from the children's ART department participated in sample selection and data collection under the close supervision of a researcher. Descriptive and inferential statistical methods were used to analyze the quantitative data. The key findings of this study revealed that 57.4% HIV positive children reported high level in measures of anxiety and 52.2% had high depression level, while 47.8% had low self-esteem. Children's ages, parental conditions, and perceived social support shown significant association with participants' mental health condition. Perceived social support was a powerful set of predictors of children level of anxiety F = 1, 113 24.526, p <.001 and self-esteem F = 1, 113 6.494, p <.0.05. Furthermore, children's age was a strong predictor of mental health status. The present study finding asserted that HIV positive children require a lifetime of continuous treatment, care and support to ensure their physical and mental development. This study reminds families, caregivers and healthcare institutions of the development of appropriate prevention and intervention program to alleviate stressful life events and improve the psychological well-being of HIV positive children. This research aims to determine the magnitude to which aspects of the sociodemographic profile of students (gender, age, religion, ethnicity and race) influence both the acts of harassment received as a cybervictim and those carried out as a cyberaggressor. Additionally, aiming to discover which of these acts suffered as cybervictim or carried out as cyberaggressor increase or decrease to a greater extent, comparing a profile of potential cyberaggressor with another of potential cybervictim. For this purpose, an artificial neural network of the multilayer perceptron type is employed, generating an estimation model of these cybervictim and cyberaggressor facts based on the students' profile using data obtained through a five-points' Likert questionnaire. That is especially useful for detecting specific behaviours based on a certain profile, being able to determine which of these attitudes are most at risk of occurring to put the relevant measures in place to prevent them. INTRODUCTION: Our objective was to assess the incidence of kidney stones requiring acute care, trends in the surgical treatment of stones, and the demographics of stone formers in Canada. METHODS: We conducted a population-based, retrospective cohort study using administrative data from the Canadian Institute for Health Information. We included Canadian residents age >18 years, outside of Quebec, who presented between January 1, 2013, and December 31, 2018, with a kidney stone episode. This was defined as a kidney stone resulting in hospital admission, emergency department visit, or stone intervention, specifically shockwave lithotripsy (SWL), ureteroscopy (URS), or percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). RESULTS: There were 471 824 kidney stone episodes, including 184 373 interventions. The number of kidney stone episode increased from 277/100 000 in 2013 to 290/100 000 in 2018. The median age was 53 (interquartile range 41-65) years and 59.9% were male. The crude rate for stone intervention was 877/100 000. The age- and gender-standardized rate for interventions was highest in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador, and lowest in Prince Edward Island. The most common intervention in Canada was URS (73.5%), followed by SWL (19.8%) and PCNL (6.7%). The percent utilization of SWL was highest in Manitoba, whereas for URS, it was highest in Prince Edward Island and Alberta. CONCLUSIONS: Our study provides the first population-based data on the demographics of stone formers and treatment trends across Canada. There has been a 4.7% increase in kidney stone episodes over the study period. Purpose: This study examined the acute and long-term effects of nandrolone decanoate (ND) on fractional synthetic rates (FSR). Methods: Male C57BL/6 mice were randomized into ND (n = 20) or sham (n = 20) groups. ND injections (10 g⋅kg-1⋅wk-1) started at 7 months of ages and continued for 6 wk. Ten animals from each group were randomly separated and examined 1 wk following drug cessation. The remaining animals were examined at 16 months of age. Animals were injected IP with 1.5 mL of deuterated water 24 h before euthanasia. The kidney, liver, heart, gastrocnemius, and soleus were extracted. Samples were analyzed for deuterated alanine enrichment in the bound protein and intracellular fraction by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry to measure estimated FSR (fraction/day (F/D)) of mixed tissue. Results: One-way ANOVA, with treatment and age as fixed factors, indicated that kidney FSR was greater (P = 0.027) in ND (0.41 ± 0.02 F/D) than sham (0.36 ± 0.014F/D) and higher (P = 0.003) in young (0.42 ± 0.2 F/D) than old (0.35 ± 0.01 F/D). Liver and heart FSR values were greater (P ≤ 0.001) in young (0.79 ± 0.06 F/D and 0.13 ± 0.01 F/D, respectively) compared with old (0.40 ± 0.01 F/D and 0.09 ± 0.01 F/D, respectively), but not between ND and sham. Gastrocnemius FSR was (P ≤ 0.001) greater in young (0.06 ± 0.01 F/D) compared with old (0.03 ± 0.002 F/D), and greater (P = 0.006) in ND (0.05 ± 0.01 F/D) compared with sham (0.04 ± 0.003 F/D). Soleus FSR rates were greater (P = 0.050) in young (0.13 ± 0.01 F/D) compared with old (0.11 ± 0.003 F/D), but not between ND (0.12 ± 0.01 F/D) and sham (0.12 ± 0.01 F/D). Old animals who had received ND displayed elevated FSR in the gastrocnemius (P = 0.054) and soleus (P = 0.024). Purpose: We aimed to examine the associations of 24-h movement behaviors (moderate to vigorous physical activity [MVPA], light physical activity [LPA], sedentary behavior [SB], and sleep) with age-, sex-, and race-specific a real bone mineral density (aBMD) z-score parameters at clinical sites in young pediatric cancer survivors. Methods: This cross-sectional multicenter study was carried out within the iBoneFIT framework in which 116 young pediatric cancer survivors (12.1 ± 3.3 yr old; 42%female) were recruited. We obtained anthropometric and body composition data (i.e., body mass, stature, body mass index, and region-specific lean mass), time spent in movement behaviors over at least seven consecutive 24-h periods (wGT3x-BT accelerometer, ActiGraph), and aBMD z-score parameters (age-, sex-, and race-specific total at the body, total hip, femoral neck and lumbar spine). Survivors were classified according to somatic maturity (pre or peri/postpubertal depending on the estimated years from peak height velocity). The adjusted models' coefficients were used to predict the effect of reallocating time proportionally across behaviors on the outcomes. Results: In prepubertal young pediatric cancer survivors, reallocating time to MVPA from LPA, SB, and sleep was significantly associated with higher aBMD at total body (B = 1.765, P = 0.005), total hip (B = 1.709, P = 0.003), and lumbar spine (B = 2.093, P = 0.001). In peri/postpubertal survivors, reallocating time to LPA from MVPA, SB, and sleep was significantly associated with higher aBMD at all sites (B = 2.090 to 2.609, P = 0.003 to 0.038). Reallocating time to SB from MVPA or LPA was significantly associated with lower aBMD atmost sites in prepubertal and peri/postpubertal survivors, respectively. Finally, reallocating time to sleep from MVPA, LPA, and SB was significantly associated with lower aBMD at total body (B = -2.572, P = 0.036) and total hip (B = -3.371, P = 0.015). Conclusions: These findings suggest that every move counts and underline the benefits of increasing MVPA or LPA, when low MVPA levels are present, for bone regeneration after pediatric cancer treatment completion. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine whether regular running distance and biomechanics are related to medial central femur cartilage (MCFC) structure. Methods: The cross-sectional study sample consisted of 1164 runners and nonrunners aged 18-65 yr. Participants completed questionnaires on physical activity and their running history. We performed quantitative magnetic resonance imaging of knee cartilage--T2 relaxation time (T2) mapping (high T2 indicates cartilage degeneration)--and a running biomechanical analysis using a three-dimensional motion capture system. A 14-d monitoring of the physical activity was conducted. Results: Those aged 35-49 yr were at 84% higher odds of having MCFC T2 in the highest level (85th percentile, P < 0.05) compared with youngest adults indicating that MCFC structures may be altered with aging. Being male was associated with 34% lower odds of having T2 at the highest level (P < 0.05) compared with females. Nonrunners and runners with the highest weekly running distance were more likely to have a high T2 compared with runners with running distance of 6-20 km⋅wk-1 (P < 0.05). In addition, the maximal knee internal adduction moment was associated with a 19% lower odds of having T2 at the highest level (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Females compared with males and a middle-aged cohort compared with the younger cohort seemed to be associated with the degeneration of MCFC structures. Runners who ran 6-20 km⋅wk-1 were associated with a higher quality of their MCFC compared with highly active individuals and nonrunners. Background: Advancing maternal age is increasingly prevalent and is associated with severe maternal morbidity often requiring intensive care unit (ICU) admission. Objectives: To describe maternal ICU admissions at a quaternary care hospital in Montreal, Canada, and evaluate the association between maternal age and composite of: need for invasive interventions, ICU stay > 48 h, or maternal death. Methods: Chart review of ICU admissions during pregnancy/postpartum (2006–2016); logistic regressions to evaluate the impact of age on outcomes. Results: With 5.1 ICU admissions per 1000 deliveries, we included 187 women (mean age 32 ± 6.3 years; 20 (10.7%) ≥ 40 years). The composite outcome occurred in 105 (56.2%) patients; there were two maternal deaths. Age ≥ 40 years increased the odds of invasive interventions (OR 4.03; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.15–14.1) but not of the composite outcome (OR 2.30; 95% CI 0.66–8.02). This study examines assessment practices when social workers determine whether a child needs child welfare or child protection services. It describes the elements employed when constructing assessment practice. The data consist of 28 group interviews among assessment teams from child and family services. The analytical framework, based on the theory of decision-making ecology and thematic mapping, allowed for a theory-driven reflective analysis. Our results highlight the distinctive nature of the assessment process, which contains the following elements: 1) individual and holistic assessments, 2) changing structures, 3) conflicting or shared understandings, and 4) unclear legal guidance. The assessment process is case-related and situational, such that tailoring also contains elements that combine decision-maker, organisational, and external factors, leaving significant space for professional discretion. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and neoplasms have been considered as public health concerns worldwide. This study aimed to estimate the epidemiological patterns of death burden on CVDs and neoplasms and its attributable risk factors in Western Europe from 1990 to 2019 to discuss the potential causes of the disparities. We collected data on CVDs and neoplasms deaths in 24 Western European countries from the Global Burden of Disease Study. We analyzed patterns by age, sex, country, and associated risk factors. The results include percentages of total deaths, age-standardized death rates per 100,000 population, and uncertainty intervals (UIs). Time trends were assessed using annual percent change. In 2019, CVDs and neoplasms accounted for 33.54% and 30.15% of Western Europe's total deaths, with age-standardized death rates of 128.05 (95% UI: 135.37, 113.02) and 137.51 (95% UI: 142.54, 128.01) per 100,000. Over 1990–2019, CVDs rates decreased by 54.97%, and neoplasms rates decreased by 19.54%. Top CVDs subtypes were ischemic heart disease and stroke; top cancers for neoplasms were lung and colorectal. Highest CVD death burdens were in Finland, Greece, Austria; neoplasm burdens in Monaco, San Marino, Andorra. The major risk factors were metabolic (CVDs) and behavioral (neoplasms). Gender differences revealed higher CVDs death burden in males, while neoplasms burden varied by risk factors and age groups. In 2019, CVDs and neoplasms posed significant health risks in Western Europe, with variations in death burdens and risk factors across genders, age groups, and countries. Multiple studies have shown that racially minoritized groups had disproportionate COVID-19 mortality relative to non-Hispanic White individuals. However, there is little known regarding mortality by immigrant status nationally in the United States, despite being another vulnerable population. This was an observational cross-sectional study using mortality vital statistics system data to calculate proportionate mortality ratios (PMRs) and mortality rates due to COVID-19 as the underlying cause. Rates were compared by decedents' identified race, ethnicity (Hispanic vs non-Hispanic), and immigrant (immigrants vs US born) status. Asian race was further disaggregated into "Asian Indian," "Chinese," "Filipino," "Japanese," "Korean," and "Vietnamese." Of the over 3.4 million people who died in 2020, 10.4% of all deaths were attributed to COVID-19 as the underlying cause (n = 351,530). More than double (18.9%, n = 81,815) the percentage of immigrants who died of COVID-19 compared with US-born decedents (9.1%, n = 269,715). PMRs due to COVID-19 were higher among immigrants compared with US-born individuals for non-Hispanic White, non-Hispanic Black, Hispanic, and most disaggregated Asian groups. Among disaggregated Asian immigrants, age- and sex-adjusted PMR due to COVID-19 ranged from 1.58 times greater mortality among Filipino immigrants (95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.53, 1.64) to 0.77 times greater mortality among Japanese immigrants (95% CI: 0.68, 0.86). Age-adjusted mortality rates were also higher among immigrant individuals compared with US-born people. Immigrant individuals experienced greater mortality due to COVID-19 compared with their US-born counterparts. As COVID-19 becomes more endemic, greater clinical and public health efforts are needed to reduce disparities in mortality among immigrants compared with their US-born counterparts. During the COVID-19 pandemic, public health measures were used to reduce the spread of COVID-19; it is unknown whether people with chronic conditions differentially adhered to public health measures. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the association between chronic conditions and adherence and to explore effect modification by sex, age, and income. An analysis of data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging COVID-19 Questionnaires (from April to September 2020) was conducted among middle-aged and older adults aged 50–96 years (n = 28,086). Self-reported chronic conditions included lung disease, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, obesity, anxiety, and depression. Multinomial logistic regression was used to estimate odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the association between chronic conditions and low, medium, and high levels of adherence. Effect modification was evaluated using statistical interaction and stratification. Most people (n = 17,435; 62%) had at least one chronic condition, and 2866 (10%) had three to seven chronic conditions. Among those with high adherence to public health measures, 69% had one or more chronic condition (n = 2266). Having three to seven chronic conditions, compared with none, was associated with higher adherence to public health measures (OR: 2.14; 95% CI: 1.12–1.42). Higher adherence was also noted across chronic conditions, for example, those with diabetes had higher adherence (OR: 1.72; 95% CI: 1.53–1.93). There was limited evidence of effect modification by sex, age, or income. Canadians with chronic conditions were more likely to adhere to public health measures; however, future research is needed to understand whether adherence helped to prevent adverse COVID-19 outcomes and if adherence had unintended consequences. To evaluate the factors associated with poor medication adherence in patients with DM and HTN in Peru. A cross-sectional study. We analyzed data from the Peruvian Demographic and Family Health Survey from 2014 to 2019. Adjusted prevalence ratios (aPR) and their respective 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated to determine the factors associated with poor medication adherence. We included 15,184 participants with a known diagnosis of DM and HTN. The frequency of poor medication adherence was 37.1%, with 36.7% among individuals with HTN and 29.2% among individuals with DM. Those belonging to age groups above 30 years (aPR: 0.77; 95% CI: 0.74–0.80, for the group ≥ 60 years) had a lower frequency of poor medication adherence. Meanwhile, being male (aPR: 1.03; 95% CI: 1.01–1.05), lacking health insurance (aPR: 1.08; 95% CI: 1.05–1.10), belonging to lower wealth quintiles (aPR: 1.12; 95% CI: 1.08–1.17, for the first quintile), and living in the mountain region (aPR: 1.09; 95% CI: 1.06–1.12) were associated with a higher frequency of poor medication adherence. These findings were consistent when stratifying by the type of disease. This study showed that poor medication adherence is common in patients with HTN and DM in Peru and is associated with sociodemographic factors, highlighting the importance of public health approaches to improve adherence. This study investigated the association between lung cancer and waterpipe smoking, which is an emerging global public health concern. Multicentre case-control study. This study included 627 cases and 3477 controls from the Iranian Study of Opium and Cancer (IROPICAN) study, which was conducted between 2017 and 2020. One frequency-matched control for each lung cancer patient was selected by age, gender and residential place; however, this study used controls of four cancer types in the analyses. The multivariable logistic regression model estimated the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Additional analyses were performed among 181 lung cancer cases and 2141 controls who were not cigarette smokers or opium or nass/pipe users. The odds of lung cancer were higher among waterpipe smokers than never-smokers (OR = 1.3, 95% CI: 1.0–1.7). Results showed a higher OR of lung cancer for those who smoked the waterpipe daily (OR = 2.1, 95% CI: 1.4–3.0), smoked more than two heads per day (OR = 2.7, 95% CI: 1.8–4.0), had smoked for >20 years (OR = 1.9, 95% CI: 1.3–2.7), smoked more than 20 head-years (OR = 2.8, 95% CI: 1.9–4.1) and initiated smoking before the age of 30 years (OR = 1.7, 95% CI: 1.1–2.5). The association was only statistically significant for squamous cell carcinomas (OR = 1.8, 95% CI 1.2–2.7). Furthermore, this study observed a higher OR of lung cancer among exclusive waterpipe smokers (OR = 2.3, 95% CI: 1.6, 3.5). Waterpipe smoking was associated with an increased risk of lung cancer. The association was stronger with higher frequency, duration and intensity of exposure to waterpipe smoking. The association increases in exclusive waterpipe smokers, which is likely due to controlling for residual confounding by cigarette smoking and opium consumption, and higher exposure levels in this subpopulation. Background: With the widespread use of social media, understanding how healthcare professionals, such as dietitians, utilise these platforms for their work has gained interest. The aim of the current study was to describe how Finnish registered dietitians utilise various social media channels for professional purposes. The study also investigated the perceived social media skills of dietitians. Methods: A cross‐sectional study was conducted using an online survey administered between December 2022 and February 2023. The participants were 107 Finnish registered dietitians who held a master's degree suitable for the profession. The Fisher's exact test was employed for categorical variables, whereas the Kruskal–Wallis test was used for ordinal variables with multiple groups. Results: Out of the 107 participants, 62 (58%) reported using social media for professional purposes. The primary purposes across various social media channels were interaction with colleagues (80%) on Facebook, networking with professionals from other fields (86%) on LinkedIn and general monitoring of the field on Instagram (91%), Twitter (77%) and YouTube (58%). Dietitians' perceived social media skills were found to have a statistically significant relationship with age (p < 0.05) for all channels, except Twitter. Conclusions: The findings suggest that Finnish dietitians predominantly utilise social media for passive monitoring of the field, rather than actively sharing content with the public. Professional communication tends to take place within their own professional groups. Incorporating social media use into the official job description could serve as an encouraging factor to enhance the professional utilisation of social media among dietitians. Background: Malnutrition and HIV form a vicious cycle and women are at an increased risk of malnutrition from HIV. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) recommends a minimum dietary diversity for women (MDD‐W) of five food groups; however, paucity of information exists about the diet quality of this population in Uganda. The present study aimed to determine the prevalence and factors associated with the MDD among HIV positive women of reproductive age (15–49 years) receiving antiretroviral therapy in Kabale district, Uganda. Methods: This was a cross‐sectional study. Probability proportional to size sampling was applied to select the number of participants per clinic and respondents were sampled systematically on a particular day in each clinic. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data on the respondent characteristics and the FAO's Individual Dietary Diversity questionnaire was used to collect the 24‐hour dietary intake. Data were analysed using appropriate software. Descriptive statistics were applied for univariate analysis. Modified Poisson was used to determine the factors associated with MDD. The study was approved by the Makerere University School of Public Health Institutional Review Board and informed consent was obtained from the respondents. Results: Some 90.9% of the respondents were Bakiga, mean age was 34.8 ± 8.1 years, 47.6% were married and 98.0% came from nuclear families with 4.4 ± 1.9 members. The mean number of food groups consumed was 4.7 ± 1.7 with roots and tubers, pulses, and dark leafy and vitamin A vegetables, whereas milk and eggs were mostly consumed and fruits were least consumed. The prevalence of the MDD‐W was 48.2%. Factors associated with MDD score at multivariate level included; age, type of employment, having nausea, viral load status and HIV clinical stage. Conclusions: Almost one half of the HIV positive women on antiretroviral therapy in the district achieve the MDD‐W, attributed to being middle aged, being casual employment and having an unsuppressed viral load. Older adults are thought to be more susceptible to scams, yet understanding the relationship between chronological age and victimization is limited by underreporting. This study avoids underreporting bias by merging four longitudinal databases of Americans (N = 1.33 million) who paid money in response to mail scams over 20 years. We investigate the risk of repeat victimization and victimization by multiple scam types over the life course. Victims in their 70s and 80s are 9% more likely to experience another victimization incident than those in their 50s. Those age 18 to 29 are 24% less likely to experience another victimization incident. Relative to adults in their 50s, the odds of victimization by multiple scams are greater for those in their 60s and 70s, but lower for those 80 +. This study demonstrates the research potential in using scammers' data to understand patterns of victimization. Objectives: During the COVID-19 pandemic, various non-pharmaceutical interventions such as individual hygiene practices like hand washing, social distancing, and mandates for the use of masks in public spaces were implemented to reduce the spread of the disease. Otitis media (OM) is a common infectious disease. How the changed environment due to the COVID-19 pandemic has influenced the prevalence of infectious diseases like OM is not known. This study aimed to investigate how OM prevalence and trends changed during COVID-19 in Korea. Methods: OM patient data from 2017 to 2021 were extracted from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service database. Patients diagnosed with disease code H66 (suppurative and unspecified otitis media) were selected for analysis. Data on OM prevalence, gender, region, medical institution, and number of ventilating-tube prescriptions were analyzed. All age groups were included, and ages were categorized into 5-year ranges Results: The number of patients diagnosed with the OM disease code decreased continuously from 2017 to 2021 (1 598 205, 1 560 178, 1 520 948, 983 701, and 734 901). The average OM prevalence per 1000 persons decreased by 45.0% from 30.2 in 2017 to 2019 to 16.6 in 2020 to 2021. The change of OM prevalence was greater for the 0 to 5 age group than other age groups. The decrease in average prevalence per 1000 persons was greatest in the 0 to 5 age group (48.6% decrease from 358.2 in 2017-2019 to 184.1 in 2020-2021). The impact of environmental changes on ventilation-tube insertion was smaller than on OM prevalence. The average number of ventilating-tube insertions decreased by 28.1% from 27 311 in 2017 to 2019 to 19 650 in 2020 to 2021. Background: Loneliness has increased since the COVID-19 pandemic and negatively impacts mental health. This study examined relationships between loneliness and mental health among adults using a digital mental health platform. Methods: A purposive sample of 919 participants (97% response rate) who were newly enrolled in the platform completed a survey on loneliness, depression, anxiety, well-being, stress, social support, and comorbidities at baseline and 3 months. Platform engagement was tracked during this period. We examined baseline differences between lonely and non-lonely participants; associations between loneliness, mental health symptoms, and comorbidities; and changes in loneliness and mental health through engagement in any form of care. Results: At baseline, 57.8% of the sample were categorized as lonely. Loneliness was associated with younger age, fewer years of education, and the presence of a comorbidity (p values <.05). Baseline loneliness was associated with greater depression, anxiety, and stress and lower well-being and social support (ps <.001). The percentage of lonely participants decreased at follow-up (57.6% to 52.9%, p =.03). Those who improved in loneliness improved in mental health symptoms, well-being, and social support (ps <.001). Lonely participants who engaged in any form of care reported a greater reduction in loneliness than those who did not engage (p =.04). Conclusions: This study confirms previous findings of the high prevalence of loneliness among adults and risk factors for increased loneliness. The high prevalence of mental health problems and underutilization of mental health treatment are more severe among the Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander (NHPI) populations and remain misunderstood and understudied. Examining mental health literacy (MHL) – the knowledge and beliefs about mental disorders – aids their recognition, management, or prevention – has been shown to identify barriers to seeking and receiving care. This study aimed to assess the level of MHL in NHPIs and identify associated demographic variables. Data for this cross‐sectional study were collected from 298 US NHPIs via an online questionnaire of the Mental Health Literacy Scale (MHLS). The overall mean MHLS score was 121 (SD = 17.3), with statistically significant higher scores in female participants, >31 years old, Tongan, more educated, and with higher income. This study demonstrated that overall MHL is comparable among NHPI compared to the current literature. However, NHPI men ≤30 years old and with lower income had lower MHL, which may be linked to the mental health disparities specific to this population. Current interventions should focus on increasing knowledge of risk factors, causes, self‐treatments, and available professional help regarding mental disorders. The attachment to mobile devices during the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the possibility of increased nomophobia, which is the intense fear of losing access to one's mobile device. Therefore, this study aimed to determine if nomophobia was independently associated with suicidality before and during the COVID-19 pandemic among university students in Malaysia. This cross-sectional study had two-time points in data collection: one year before and one year into the COVID-19 pandemic. N = 806 university students aged ≥ 18 years completed an online questionnaire comprising the Nomophobia Questionnaire, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and the Suicidal Behaviors Questionnaire-Revised. A multiple logistic regression (controlling for gender, age, and social support) was conducted to determine the association between nomophobia and suicidality before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The prevalence of severe nomophobia before and during the COVID-19 pandemic was 15.7% and 35.6% respectively. The level of nomophobia was significantly higher during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to pre-pandemic. Pre-pandemic, there were no significant associations. During the pandemic, participants with moderate (aOR 3.09, 95% CI [1.14–8.40], p =.027) and severe (aOR 3.57, 95% CI [1.25–10.20], p =.018) nomophobia had higher odds of suicide plan. During the pandemic, moderate and severe nomophobia were independently associated with more than three times higher odds for a lifetime suicide plan. When organisations make employees redundant, they increasingly offer outplacement counselling to them, either in-house or as a service of specialised companies. Despite outplacement counsellors' importance, their work-related stress has not been studied yet. In this paper we argue that internal (in-house) outplacement counsellors have a particularly demanding job (especially because being employed by firing organisations should increase role conflicts among internal outplacement counsellors) and they should thus be more emotionally exhausted than external outplacement counsellors. Data from 98 German outplacement counsellors supported this argumentation. Mediation analyses showed that these differences were mediated by increased role conflicts, consistent with role theory arguments. The same effect was found for counsellors' job satisfaction. COVID-19 global pandemic has had a profound impact on the quality of life and mental state of the community. The aim of the study was the preliminary assessment of social isolation on individual mental state due to SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. A detailed online questionnaire was conducted in the period from March 2020 to March 2021 among 587 persons from Poland. Most respondents (46.2%) expect a professional psychological support. This is followed by expectations of psychoeducation (37%) and understanding (34.4%). During the pandemic, most people deal with stress by watching TV series It is a form of escape into a different reality. Obtained results demonstrate that place of residence does not corelate with fear of coronavirus. Statistically significant differences occurred when answers regarding aspects of living during pandemic were checked against gender of respondents. Women experience pandemic-related anxiety more severely than men. This research highlights that psychological care should be part of the wider health care system in the time of crisis. Objective: Previous research has revealed that mental health professionals (MHPs) often experience severe, yet varying, levels of short-term impact in the aftermath of client suicide. Individual differences are significant, yet what factors help explain these differences remains unclear. The current study investigated the role of the MHPs' and the clients' age and gender upon the impact of client suicide. Method: An international sample of 213 MHPs, aged between 18 and 75, reported on a client's suicide and its short-term impact (IES-R). Results: The results indicate that both MHPs' and clients' gender did not affect impact. MHPs' and clients' age did not affect impact individually, although a significant interaction effect was revealed. Conclusion: Age, not gender, of the MHP and client are relevant in light of the impact of client suicide. Potential implications and suggestions for future research are discussed. Objective: To analyze the clinical characteristics, incidence, and distribution of drug-associated muscle adverse reactions (DAMAR) in real-world inpatients, to provide valuable references for clinical medication use. Methods: We conducted an automatic retrospective monitoring of inpatients from May 1, 2022, to April 30, 2023, to collect information on adverse drug reactions (ADR) of patients and conducted subsequent analyses. Results: Among 102,430 hospitalizations, 1106 cases of DAMARs were identified, yielding an incidence of 1.08%, including 125 cases of rhabdomyolysis at an incidence of 0.12%. Seventy-five percent of the patients experienced muscle adverse reactions within 5 days after taking medication, with a median elevated creatine kinase (CK) value of 420.4 IU/L. Risk factors of DAMAR include age ≥ 65, male sex, obesity, hypertension, hepatic and renal insufficiency, and anemia. No significant correlation was observed between the duration of surgery and CK elevation, while the surgical procedure itself had an impact. The 114 drugs associated were predominantly nervous system drugs, anti-infectives for systemic use, and cardiovascular system drugs, with levofloxacin, pregabalin, and parecoxib being the most frequently associated drugs. Conclusion: Healthcare professionals should be vigilant with patients exhibiting the identified risk factors. Background: Diabetes mellitus is an immune compromised state and Covid-19 an infection associated with immune dysregulation. This study was conducted to appreciate the factors which may contribute to increased morbidity and mortality in people with Diabetes. Objective: To understand the profile of diabetes mellitus in COVID-19 patients and to ascertain their risk factors for mortality. Methods: This was a single-center, retrospective observational study conducted in a tertiary care hospital. The data of adults with established or newly diagnosed diabetes mellitus admitted with COVID-19 between April 2020 and January 2021 was analyzed in relation to their age, sex, duration of hospitalization, systolic blood pressure (SBP) at admission, presence of other comorbidities, initial fasting plasma glucose, oxygen therapy, CT severity, biochemical parameters, inflammatory markers, and hyperglycemia management, and compared between survivors and non-survivors, to ascertain the risk factors for mortality. Results: A total of 2640 adults, above 18 years of age with diabetes mellitus and COVID-19, were included. Among them, 2229 (84.4%) survived, and 411 (15.6%) died. Preexisting diabetes mellitus was recorded in 2246 patients (85.1%) and newly diagnosed in 394 patients (14.9%) with mortality of 16.8% and 8.4% respectively. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed odds ratio (OR) of 4.33 (95% CI= 2.533–7.402) for severity in CT chest and 3.9 (95% CI= 3.108–4.895) for use of oxygen therapy, which were independently associated with in-hospital mortality in the study population and the risk was higher in adults aged more than 45 years, OR 2.035 (95% CI = 1.379–3.003). The subgroup of patients with risk factors like multiple comorbidities, fasting plasma glucose >140 mg/dl, and abnormal SBP also had higher levels of inflammatory markers and poorer outcomes. Conclusion: Based on our study, advanced age, extremes of SBP, uncontrolled fasting plasma glucose, and presence of other comorbidities like hypertension, coronary artery disease, chronic kidney disease, thyroid disorders, bronchial asthma, or COPD at admission appeared as risk factors for mortality in people with diabetes and COVID-19. Such patients had higher likelihood of elevated renal parameters, liver enzymes, C reactive protein, and more severe lung involvement, necessitating supplemental oxygen therapy. We conducted an analysis to identify factors influencing the use of traditional complementary and alternative medicine (TCAM), with a particular emphasis on ethnic variations. Using the 2015 Asian American Quality of Life survey (N = 2,609), logistic regression analyses were performed, considering acculturation, health status, healthcare accessibility/utilization, and socio-demographic factors. Ethnicity, specifically being Chinese or Korean Americans, having chronic medical conditions, experiencing unmet healthcare needs, and having regular check-ups were significant predictors of TCAM use among Asian Americans as a whole. However, when we delved into sub-ethnic groups, different patterns were found. Among Vietnamese and Filipino Americans, having unmet healthcare needs emerged as the most prominent predictor of TCAM use. Furthermore, acculturation level and English proficiency were significant in predicting Vietnamese and Filipino Americans' TCAM use, with the direction varying by sub-ethnicity. Being old emerged as a predictor of TCAM use for Chinese, Indian, Korean, and 'other' Americans. The prevalence rates and correlates of mental or physical disability among recently resettled refugees, who undergo strenuous journeys before arriving in the US, remain unknown, masking potential health disparities. Self-reported disability was measured by the 2018 Annual Survey of Refugees (ASR), and defined as having a physical, mental, or other health condition for more than 6 months that precluded one from working. Prevalence rates of self-reported disability and sample correlates were investigated using descriptive and logistic regression analyses. Of N = 4259 participating refugees in ASR (Mean Age = 28.2, SD = 17.2; 52.5% male), 2875 responded to the disability question and 21.4% reported disability. About 33.7% were born in the Middle East region, 29.5% had no formal education, and 35% had an income of less than $15,000. Age (OR = 1.06, 95% Confidence Interval (CI) [1.06,1.07], p < 0.001), region of birth (OR = 1.82, 95% CI [1.31, 2.51], p < 0.001), employment status (OR = 3.31, 95% CI [2.67, 4.11], p < 0.001), and receiving food stamps (OR = 2.09, 95% CI [1.66, 2.62], p < 0.001) were associated with self-reported disability. Disability levels among refugees recently resettled in the United States are comparable to national disability rates in the US. Our results suggest that multiple aspects of the refugee experience (i.e., demographics, socioeconomic status, contextual migration history) need to be considered to understand the risk for health outcomes. Future investigations of disabilities in diverse refugee populations over time and tailored public health interventions to mitigate potential risk factors are warranted to promote health equity. This study aims to assess relationships between previous stroke diagnosis and demographic or disability status variables, stratified by U.S. citizenship status. The 2019 and 2021 National Health Interview Survey data were analyzed for both descriptive statistics and logistic regression models. Age, sex, income level, race/ethnicity, health insurance status, and indicators of disability common after stroke were predictor variables of interest. For each disability predictor variable, higher odds of having stroke were seen regardless of citizenship status, except for the 'difficulty remembering' variable. For U.S. citizens, increasing age corresponded with higher odds of stroke diagnosis. For noncitizens, odds ratios decreased from 40.3 (95% CI 38.88–41.82) for the 40–65 age group to 29.6 (95% CI 28.38–30.77) in the 80 + group, when compared with the 18–39 age reference group. Female noncitizens had higher odds of stroke, while male citizens had higher odds. Non-Hispanic Black citizens had higher odds of stroke, while the other racial/ethnic groups had higher odds for noncitizens. The results indicated the existence of several socio-demographic disparities in stroke. In Japan, a considerable number of foreigners encounter challenges in accessing appropriate healthcare services due to the lack of insurance coverage. However, the absence of a public database on these individuals makes it difficult to assess their health problems and healthcare access status. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of vulnerable Thai patients in Japan and to shed light on the specific challenges they face within Japan's healthcare system. A retrospective analysis was conducted using records of patients who required emergency healthcare support from the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo between 2004 and 2020. Descriptive statistical analyses were performed to examine the general characteristics, insurance status, and diseases of the patients. Additionally, patients were classified as either prolonged residents or brief residents based on their duration of stay in Japan until hospital admission (1 year or more or less than 1 year). A total of 74 patients were identified, with the majority (91.9%) lacking insurance coverage. Notably, there was an increase in the number of brief residents, including tourists, during the 2010s. Prolonged residents were more likely to experience chronic diseases, whereas brief residents were more prone to sustaining injuries. The patient records from the Thai Embassy consistently highlight the urgent requirement for emergency healthcare support within this population. However, the existing policies in Japan fall short in adequately addressing the healthcare access needs of this vulnerable population. Objectives: To examine trends in incidence and mortality and evaluate overall survival (OS) of oral cancer in Singapore between 1968 and 2017. Methods: All diagnosed oral cancers by anatomical sites and population size were extracted from the Singapore Cancer Registry and the Department of Statistics Singapore. The trend of age‐standardized incidence rate (ASIR) and mortality rate (ASMR) (per 100 000 person‐years) of the lip, oral cavity and salivary gland cancers were evaluated by Prais‐Winsten regressions for each ethnicity and gender. Kaplan–Meier curves were performed to evaluate the OS by anatomical sites in each age group by ethnicity and sex. Results: Overall, 49, 3494 and 1066 people were diagnosed, and 28, 2310 and 476 died from lip, oral cavity and salivary gland cancers, respectively. The oral cavity cancer ASIR and ASMR reduced from 3.07 (1968–1972) to 2.01(2008–2012) and from 2.06 (1978–1982) to 1.21 (2013–2017) per 100 000 person‐years, respectively, with both highest in Indians throughout the whole period. Male:Female ratio ranged from 3.43 (1973–1977) to 1.75 (2013–2017) and from 3.41 (1978–1982) to 2.40 (2013–2017) for ASIR and ASMR, respectively. However, both salivary gland cancer ASIR and ASMR increased from 0.50 (1968–1972) to 0.80 (2008–2012) and from 0.18 (1968–1982) to 0.42 (1988–1992) per 100 000 person‐years, respectively, with both higher in males since 1993. Oral cavity cancer ASIR decreased for males aged ≥60, and Indian females ≥25, but increased among Chinese females aged ≥60. Oral cavity cancer ASMR decreased among Chinese aged 25–59, and among Malay males and Indian females. Salivary gland cancer ASIR increased among Chinese males aged ≥60 and Malay males aged 25–59; while ASMR increased among Chinese males aged ≥60. The median OS for oral cavity, lip and salivary gland cancers were 3.0, 9.3 and 18.1 years, respectively, with females surviving longer than males. Conclusions: Singapore has experienced a decline in the incidence and mortality of lip, oral cancer, an increase in in the incidence and mortality of salivary gland cancer, with an increase in the median overall survival rate. Monitoring the magnitude of oral cancer burden and the demographic, and temporal variations is necessary for tailoring health planning and setting priorities for future clinical care and research. The development of efficient and reliable online assessments has become increasingly important in the digital era. We developed a 10-min online word reading assessment of global English based on the existing paper-and-pencil version of our English silent word reading test. The test includes two parts, namely, random word recognition and contextual word reading. A total of 889 participants (437 children and 392 adults; 62.7% female) took part in the study. They were from various regions including mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, Poland, the United States, and the Philippines. Reliability and validity analyses on various demographics samples (by age and country/region of origin) demonstrated that the WordSword Test is highly reliable and valid (e.g., the correlation of this test with other English reading measures were above.80). Education level was positively correlated with test performance, while the correlations between age and test performance were not consistent. Ninety-seven children participants also took the paper-and-pencil version of the WordSword Test. The correlation between performances on the online and paper-and-pencil versions of the test was.879, one year apart. By the year 2030, 19–21 per cent of the population of New Zealand (NZ) is projected to be aged 65 and over. Like many countries, life expectancy in NZ differs by gender but also ethnicity: in 2019, life expectancy for Māori (indigenous) women was 77.1 years compared with 84.4 years for non-Māori women. If Māori and NZ European women are to flourish in later life, examining the factors associated with their wellbeing is paramount. The current study draws on the Life Course Perspective to explore how wellbeing is associated with age-related life events among mid- to later-life NZ women. The women in this study (N = 19,624) are participants in the 2018 wave of the New Zealand Attitudes and Values Study, a national probabilistic 20-year longitudinal study (mean age = 55.62; Māori = 10.8%, NZ European = 89.2%). We found that stressful life events were negatively associated with life satisfaction but positively associated with meaning in life. Māori women exhibited lower levels of life satisfaction but there were no ethnic differences for meaning in life; however, Māori and NZ European women showed different patterns of significant correlates associated with meaning in life. Findings highlight the necessity of an intersectional approach to the study of mid- to later-life wellbeing and the utility of measuring wellbeing in more than one way within NZ's unique cultural-historical context. This study investigated if people are acquainted with the term 'ageism', and to what extent acquaintance with this term corresponds with reports of discrimination, due to age. The study included an online survey, answered by 1,025 Israeli respondents. The questionnaire began by asking the respondents to define 'What is ageism?' (gilanut in Hebrew) and then to mark 'If and what types of discrimination they experienced in the last year'. Subsequently, we defined and demonstrated the term ageism and asked participants to share experiences of this phenomenon; 457 (45%) participants were not familiar with the term. In the group that was unfamiliar with the term, only 46 (10%) reported that they had such experiences. In the group that was acquainted with the term, 208 (30%) reported that they had experienced ageism. In contrast, once the term, ageism, was defined and demonstrated in the survey, 638 (62%) respondents shared experiences of ageism in their lives. Of those who shared their experiences of ageism, 202 (31%) were initially unfamiliar with the term. The study's results show that there is an association between the linguistic representation of the phenomenon of ageism and reports of ageism. Aim: Investigating the association between sugar‐sweetened beverages (SSBs) and periodontitis and whether the awareness of diabetes modifies this relationship. Materials and Methods: Cross‐sectional analysis was conducted using the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES III) data involving US adults aged 30–50. Periodontitis was classified according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and American Academy of Periodontology (CDC‐AAP), and SSB consumption as dichotomous (<5 or ≥5, <7 or ≥7 and <14 or ≥14 times/week), ordinal and continuous variables. Confounders included family income poverty ratio, education, race/ethnicity, sex, age, food energy intake, smoking and alcohol. Odds ratios (ORs) were obtained by logistic regressions using inverse probability weighting. Effect modification analysis was performed considering self‐reported diabetes. Results: Among 4473 cases analysed, 198 self‐reported diabetes. SSBs were associated with periodontitis when individuals consumed ≥5 (OR 1.64; 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.30–2.06), ≥7 (OR 1.92; 95% CI = 1.50–2.46) and ≥14 (OR 2.19; 95% CI = 1.50–3.18) times/week. The combined effect of consuming SSBs (≥5 and ≥14 times/week) and self‐reported diabetes had less impact than the cumulative effect. Fear of childbirth (FOC), also referred to as tokophobia, can have detrimental consequences for a woman's well-being during pregnancy and for their subjective birth experience. However, it is unknown what role self-esteem plays in the relationship between FOC and the experience of childbirth. This study investigates the relation between FOC and the birth experience, and the role of self-esteem in that relation. We studied 125 nulliparous and parous Finnish women from their third trimester of pregnancy to 4–8 weeks postpartum. Path analysis with MLR estimation was conducted using MPlus to predict the childbirth experience according to prior self-esteem and fear of childbirth as well as their interaction. Also, age and parity were included as predictors of the birth experience, as well as their interactions with self-esteem. FOC was measured with the Wijma Delivery Expectancy/Experience Questionnaire – version A (W-DEQ-A), self-esteem with the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES), and birthing experience with the Delivery Satisfaction Scale (DSS). We found that self-esteem moderated the association between fear of childbirth and the subjective birth experience: the lower the self-esteem, the stronger the negative connection between FOC and the birth experience; and, reversely, the higher the self-esteem, the weaker the connection between FOC and the birth experience. The results highlight intra-group differences between fearful women and contribute to theory formation. Objective: Bone conduction hearing implants are a well-established method of hearing rehabilitation in children and adults. This study aimed to review any changes in provision in England. Methods: The total number of bone conduction hearing implantations performed was analysed from 2012 to 2021 utilising Hospital Episode Statistics data for England. Results: The total number of procedures has increased by 58 per cent. One-stage bone conduction hearing implantations in adults accounts for the largest proportion of this increase (93 per cent of the total). The number performed in children has remained stable and accounts for 73 per cent (n = 433) of all two-stage procedures. Conclusion: The data show that bone conduction hearing implant surgery is becoming increasingly popular, particularly in adults.
