The topic of whether globalization, energy consumption and financial development can substantially reduce emissions during the globalization era remains unanswered. In this context, this research highlights empirical indications supporting this theoretical discord; assessing the effect of globalization, energy consumption and financial development on the CO2 emissions in Japan (utilizing a dataset that spans between 1990 and 2019). The study employed the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) technique and frequency domain causality to probe these relationships. Unlike other conventional causality tests, the frequency domain causality test can capture causality at different frequencies. The findings from the ARDL analysis disclosed that globalization and renewable energy contribute to the mitigation of CO2 emissions while fossil fuel, economic growth and financial development caused an upsurge in CO2 in Japan. Furthermore, the frequency domain demonstrated that all the exogenous variables can forecast CO2 mostly in the long-term which implies that any policy initiated based on the exogenous variables will impact emissions of CO2. Based on the results obtained, Japan has to improve its financial systems and increase its use of renewable energy. Furthermore, Japan needs to restructure its policy regarding globalization owing to the fact that it contributes to the degradation of the environment. Since globalization is a major driver of economic growth, the government should concentrate on luring and licensing investors that use environmentally beneficial (net-zero) technology. Energy recovery from waste presents a promising alternative for several countries, including Ghana, which has struggled with unsustainable waste treatment methods and an inadequate power supply for several decades. The current study adopts a comprehensive multi-criteria decision-making approach for the selection of an optimal waste-to-energy (WtE) technology for implementation in Ghana. Four WtE technologies are evaluated against twelve selection criteria. An integrated AHP-fuzzy TOPSIS method is applied to estimate the criteria’s weights and rank the WtE alternatives. From the AHP results, technical criteria obtained the highest priority weight, while social criteria emerged as the least important in the selection process. The overall ranking order of WtE technologies obtained by fuzzy TOPSIS is as follows: anaerobic digestion > gasification > pyrolysis > plasma gasification. The sensitivity analysis indicates highly consistent and sturdy results regarding the optimal selection. This study recommends adopting a hybrid system of anaerobic digestion and gasification technologies, as this offers a well-balanced system under all of the evaluation criteria compared to the standalone systems. The results of the current study may help the government of Ghana and other prospective investors select a suitable WtE technology, and could serve as an index system for future WtE research in Ghana. © 2022 by the authors.

Global environmental issues such as environmental degradation, climate change, and global warming have posed a threat to the global economy, including Pakistan. The primary source of these problems is greenhouse gas emissions. These emissions are the result of human activity. The objective of the study was to investigate the symmetric and asymmetric relationship between globalization and greenhouse gas emissions in Pakistan. The ARDL modern econometric techniques of the time series model were used. Firstly, the stationarity test favors the use of the ARDL model in this study. The BDS test result confirmed that the ARDL model has a non-linearity issue. As a result, the ARDL approach was used to test both the symmetric and asymmetric effect. The results of the asymmetric ARDL model are more robust and reliable than those of the symmetric ARDL model. According to the results of the symmetric ARDL, economic, social, and political globalization have a positive relationship with greenhouse gas emissions in both the short and long run. Furthermore, the long-run results of the asymmetric ARDL model show that positive and negative shocks of economic and political globalization have positive and negative shock effects on greenhouse gas emissions. In the long run, however, the positive shock of social globalization has a negative relationship with greenhouse gas emissions. According to the results of impulse response functions, economic globalization has a significantly more relationship with greenhouse gas emissions than social and political globalization. A policy should be developed that allows only the positive effects of globalization while prohibiting the negative effects of globalization. © 2022 by the authors.

This article aims to look at the recipe data analysis from a critical perspective, offering the authors’ own learning experience from successes and failures of the research process. The present recipe research has been limited by the availability of data, which in the case of recipes mostly consists of texts depicting a variety of ingredients. This has contributed to a better understanding of flavour formation and nutritional value of food but has not led further to establishing a corpus of healthy and unhealthy foods. Time-related cooking aspects have remained largely out of the present research’s scope due to the difficulties in obtaining immediately analyzable data. The same goes for the recipe-relate research on food texture, color and other aspects. In this research the methodology of topic modelling has been applied to analyze recipes in North American and Mexican cuisines in order to highlight the core culinary themes within these two cuisines. Potential for result analysis, as well as its limitations, are also discussed. Topic models of agglomerated data can be helpful in further multisensory research, as they provide some insights into the colour, the flavour and, potentially, the texture of certain groups of dishes. It can be combined further on with social media sentiment analysis and other research methods to better grasp the human relationship with food. © 2021 Baltic Journal of Modern Computing. The goal of e-government is to provide public services to end users - be it citizens or residents - of a given nation. Research has shown that there is the susceptibility of governments to check all the boxes so as to present an image of having e-government implementations, yet end users eventually do not benefit from these electronic services. Quality public service delivery is an issue of priority today and, with the increasing availability of modern technological tools and techniques, it is attainable. Datadriven e-government is a necessary ingredient in the modern day public sector due to the widespread availability and rapid production of data (i.e. big data) and it aims at value creation. This study proposes a novel research concept, using the Multi-Channel Service Delivery model as a catalyst to attain the data-driven ecosystem in the public sector. The model was developed based on recommendations from works of previous research to address the changing landscape of the public sector. By integrating the Multi-Channel Service Delivery model into e-government and public sector decision making, governments will be able to bridge the divide and offer services to end users with access to e-services, as well as those who do not. E-government systems are a part of the general process of digital transformation in the public sector: countries with efficient e-government manage to reduce the administrative burden on private citizens and businesses and to improve government performance, transparency and accountability. This article brings to light the connection between the development of e-government systems and such factors as the rule of law and control of corruption. The study relies on a path model, which was built and statistically tested by using linear regression analysis to authenticate the veracity of the model’s components. The model uses three indicators adopted from the World Bank’s Governance Indicator project – the rule of law, control of corruption, and government effectiveness. The data to measure the e-Government Development Index (EGDI) in fifteen countries was provided by the e-Government 2016 Survey conducted by the United Nations. The findings reveal a positive complementary relationship between the rule of law in a country and the development of an e-government system, which enhances the government’s effectiveness. The article describes a shift towards a more citizen-centric e-government implementation strategy, which can be recommended in particular to policy-makers in developing economies. The proposed model can be recommended as a measurement tool to assess effective governance in any given country., Системы электронного правительства являются частью общего процесса цифровой трансформации в государственном секторе: странам с эффективным электронным правительством удается снизить административную нагрузку на частные лица и предприятия, а также повысить эффективность, прозрачность и подотчетность правительства. Эта статья раскрывает связь между развитием систем электронного правительства и такими факторами, как верховенство закона и борьба с коррупцией. Исследование опирается на модель роста, которая была построена и статистически протестирована с использованием линейного регрессионного анализа для проверки достоверности элементов модели. В модели используются три показателя, рассчитываемые Всемирным банком: верховенство закона, борьба с коррупцией и эффективность правительства. Данные для измерения индекса развития электронного правительства (EGDI) в пятнадцати странах были предоставлены в рамках Обзора электронного правительства 2016 года, проведенного ООН. Полученные данные свидетельствуют о позитивной взаимодополняющей взаимосвязи между верховенством закона в стране и развитием системы электронного правительства, которая повышает эффективность правительства. В статье описывается сдвиг в сторону более ориентированной на граждан стратегии внедрения электронного правительства, которая может быть рекомендована, в частности, лицам, определяющим политику в развивающихся странах. Предложенная модель может быть рекомендована в качестве инструмента оценки эффективности государственного управления в любой стране.

The evident benefits of big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning in society have begun to influence the transition towards a data-driven public sector. Decision-making in the public sector is in an infancy phase of a revolution owing to the inclusion of these new technological innovations. Research has revealed that data-driven e-government policies improve socio-economic development in some nations. Despite the immense opportunities data-driven e-government models have for governments, similar to every system, there are ramifications. This study explores the concept of data-driven e-government as well as investigates the socio-economic implications such an e-government model can have on society. Findings of this exploratory study add insight into a field which is in its early days and still unfocused, as well as making recommendations for policymakers. © 2019, Department for E-Governance and Administration. This study covers factors influencing the adoption of electronic health (eHealth) technologies in Ghana. The study was designed as a quantitative survey with questionnaire as the main method of data gathering. A total of 1640 questionnaires were administered to users and potential users of eHealth technologies in both public and private healthcare centres in Ghana. The study concludes that institutional characteristics and healthcare manager characteristics have a high influence on eHealth adoption. However, factors related to performance expectancy and effort expectancy only have low influence on the adoption of eHealth devices and systems. Accordingly, the study makes recommendations to policymakers for improving eHealth adoption in the health sector. © The Author(s) 2019.

The 21st century has witnessed a paradigm shift of drone technology from military operations to civil operations sparking off a growing interest in all the three main sectors of the economy; primary sector, secondary sector and service or tertiary sector. Culture is known to influence the diffusion and adoption of certain technologies in any given nation. As such, this study uses a binomial logistic regression technique on Hofstede's cultural dimensions and drone regulation existence in a selected number of countries to statistically assess whether national culture influences the adoption of drone regulations. © 2019 Author(s).
