8. Nano Mica/Silicone Coating on Electrical Porcelain Substrate

Abstract

The study explores the use of nano mica platelets as a filler in silicone matrix for developing silicone-based coating on porcelains insulators. The protocol for hydrophobic surface treatment of fillers with hexamethyldisilazane and coating technique employed on porcelain substrate is detailed. An experimental approach is adopted, beginning with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) to confirm the successful filler surface silane treatment. Energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDAX) analysis revealed the presence of insulating oxides—alumina and silica, along with various other semi-conductive oxides. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images revealed smooth mica platelet surfaces with cleaved structures. The stacked platelet morphology is revealed in the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images. Static contact angle improved from 48.73° for porcelain substrate to 93.55° at 5 phr loading. Doping with mica fillers enhanced the volume resistivity by a decade over neat silicone. Dielectric constant and dissipation factor improved with the addition of nano mica platelets. ac and dc (bipolar) dielectric strength improved tremendously even at a mere 0.5 phr nano mica doping by 1.22, 1.26, and 1.27 times over neat silicone for ac, +dc, and −dc dielectric strength, respectively. Abstract

Uveitis is a major cause of visual impairment. Experimental autoimmune uveitis mimics the clinical conditions of posterior uveitis in many ways. T-cells (particularly CD4[+] helper-T-cells) have been shown to play an important role in pathogenesis of experimental and clinical uveitis. Based on the pattern of cytokine they secrete, CD4[+] helper cells have been divided into Thl and Th2 subsets. Various Thl and Th2 cytokines appear to be involved in the pathogenesis and/or recovery from uveitis. This article discusses in detail the uveitopathogenic and therapeutic potential of Thl and Th2 cytokines in experimental and clinical uveitis.

Abstract

Experimental autoimmune uveitis (EAU) is a T-cell mediated autoimmune disease that targets the neural retina and serves as a model of human uveitis. EAU can be induced against several retinal proteins in rats, mice, and subhuman primates. These include the S-antigen, a major protein in retinal photoreceptor cells; interphotoreceptor retinoid-binding protein (IRBP); and rhodopsin and other antigens of retinal origin. There are many similarities between clinical uveitis and EAU, but the latter differs in being self-limited, and needs adjuvant for disease induction. The experimental disease can be induced only in susceptible animal strains. Use of the EAU model has helped investigators understand the pathophysiology of the disease and to evaluate disease-modifying strategies, which could be applied in the clinic. There has been significant progress in this field during last decade, but much more understanding is needed before the knowledge can be transferred to clinical practice. A deeper understanding of the immune mechanisms involved in the EAU model may lead to the development of new therapeutic approaches targeted at various components of the immune response by immunomodulation to control uveitis. This review summarises the evidence from the EAU model, which could be of relevance to the clinical management of patients with uveitis.

Abstract

Introduction: Japanese encephalitis virus, a flavivirus is a significant cause of arboviral encephalitis worldwide. The virus is transmitted to humans via the bite of infected Culex mosquitoes especially C. tritaeniorhynchus , they prefer to bite outdoors and are extremely active and are extremely active in the evening and night. Neuroimaging reveals by MRI and CT scan of patients of Japanese encephalitis shows characteristic lesions particularly in the thalami, substantia nigra, basal ganglia, cerebral cortex, cerebellum, brainstem and white matter. Material and Method : A total of 50 patients divided in 25 anti JE antibody positive patients and another 25 in anti JE antibody negative group. A cross sectional observational analytical study was performed in the time period of January 2015 to August 2016, the patients was studied using IgM capture ELISA and 1.5T MRI machine. Result Analysis: The results were analysed using chi square test and p values. It was found that gray matter structures were the most commonly affected, the thalamus, basal ganglia but white matter lesions were also noted. The thalamus was the most commonly involved structure, followed by the brainstem and cerebral cortex. Haemorrhagic lesions were noted in the cortex, midbrain and cerebellum. Conclusion: Involvement of the thalamus showed the most significant difference between JE and non JE patients with 64% of the JE patients showed thalamic involvement. No other part of the brain showed such significant difference.

Abstract

The aim of present work is the evaluation of mechanically subcooled simple vapour compression refrigeration system on the basis of energy and exergy analysis, and compatibility of alternative low GWP and zero ODP HFOs R1234yf and R1234ze to replace HFC 134a. A computer program has been developed in Engineering Equation solver software to compute the system performance parameters such as COP, exergetic efficiency, total exergy destruction and exergy destruction ratio. The effect of degree of subcooling (5 to 30°C), evaporator temperature (-30°C to 15°C), effectiveness of liquid vapour heat exchanger (0.2 to 1.0) and compressor efficiency (0.4 to 1.0) has been investigted on the performance parameters viz. exergy desturction, exergy destruction ratio (EDR) and exergetic efficiency of the system components. The results of current analysis highlight that the R1234ze is the best alternate refrigerant considered in the analysis and can replace R134a as the COP and exergetic efficiency of R1234ze are 1.87% and 1.88% more than that of R134a for 30°C of subcoooling. However, R1234yf offers lower performance than R134a. The components condenser and evaporator are the sites of highest and lowest exergy destruction respectively for the refrigerants considered. Abstract

In this work, the thermodynamic analysis ofdedicated mechanically subcooled vapour compression refrigeration system ispresented. A software based computer program in EES has been formulated forcomputation of the performance results. The effect of varation of degree ofsubcooling (5-30oC), evaporator temperature (-20 to 10oC)and condenser temperature (30-50oC) has been investigated for energetic andexergetic performance of the system. The analysis of the system has beencarried out using zero ODP and very low GWP (1 to 4) refrigerants viz.HFO-R1234zeand R1234yf to compare the performance of HFC-R134a. The results depicts thatthe COP and exergetic efficiency of dedicated subcooled VCR cycle are betterthan that of simple VCR cycle. Refrigerant R1234ze performs better than R1234yf and comparable to R134a.

Abstract

Positive effects of biological response modifiers on cancer cells are usually measured using markers for increased immunogenicity as well as those for increased differentiation of the cells. An increase in levels of HLA class I antigens and the adult (beta) globin molecules are two such markers that may be used to assess the effect of modulators like interferons on the K562 erythroleukaemia cell line. Although interferon mediated up regulation of gene expression is thought to be primarily regulated by binding of proteins to the Interferon responsive cis elements in the promoters of IFN responsive genes, recent evidence has shown the induction of other transcriptional activators in response to IFN treatment. We present evidence for one such instance wherein up regulation of HLA class I and beta globin gene transcription are accompanied by induction of binding activities similar to RXR beta and kB proteins in K562 cells.
