We present the GenAI Content Detection Task~1 -- a shared task on binary machine generated text detection, conducted as a part of the GenAI workshop at COLING 2025. The task consists of two subtasks: Monolingual (English) and Multilingual. The shared task attracted many participants: 36 teams made official submissions to the Monolingual subtask during the test phase and 26 teams -- to the Multilingual. Quantum networking and computing technologies demand scalable hardware with high-speed control for large systems of quantum devices. Solid-state platforms have emerged as promising candidates, offering scalable fabrication for a wide range of qubits. Architectures based on spin-photon interfaces allow for highly-connected quantum networks over photonic links, enabling entanglement distribution for quantum networking and distributed quantum computing protocols. With the potential to address these demands, optically-active spin defects in silicon are one proposed platform for building quantum technologies. Here, we electrically excite the silicon T centre in integrated optoelectronic devices that combine nanophotonic waveguides and cavities with p-i-n diodes. We observe single-photon electroluminescence from a cavity-coupled T centre with $g^{(2)}(0)=0.05(2)$. Further, we use the electrically-triggered emission to herald the electron spin state, initializing it with $92(8)\%$ fidelity. This shows, for the first time, electrically-injected single-photon emission from a silicon colour centre and a new method of electrically-triggered spin initialization. Battery energy storage systems are an important part of modern power systems as a solution to maintain grid balance. However, such systems are often remotely managed using cloud-based control systems. This exposes them to cyberattacks that could result in catastrophic consequences for the electrical grid and the connected infrastructure. This paper takes a step towards advancing understanding of these systems and investigates the effects of cyberattacks targeting them. We propose a reference model for an electrical grid cloud-controlled load-balancing system connected to remote battery energy storage systems. The reference model is evaluated from a cybersecurity perspective by implementing and simulating various cyberattacks. We measure for the first time the differential photoproduction cross section $d\sigma/dt$ of the $a_2(1320)$ meson at an average photon beam energy of 8.5~GeV, using data with an integrated luminosity of 104~pb$^{-1}$ collected by the GlueX experiment. We fully reconstruct the $\gamma p \to \eta\pi^0 p$ reaction and perform a partial-wave analysis in the $a_2(1320)$ mass region with amplitudes that incorporate the linear polarization of the beam. This allows us to separate for the first time the contributions of natural- and unnatural-parity exchanges. Recent progress in generative AI, especially diffusion models, has demonstrated significant utility in text-to-image synthesis. Particularly in healthcare, these models offer immense potential in generating synthetic datasets and training medical students. However, despite these strong performances, it remains uncertain if the image generation quality is consistent across different demographic subgroups. To address this critical concern, we present the first comprehensive study on the fairness of medical text-to-image diffusion models. Our extensive evaluations of the popular Stable Diffusion model reveal significant disparities across gender, race, and ethnicity. To mitigate these biases, we introduce FairDiffusion, an equity-aware latent diffusion model that enhances fairness in both image generation quality as well as the semantic correlation of clinical features. In addition, we also design and curate FairGenMed, the first dataset for studying the fairness of medical generative models. Complementing this effort, we further evaluate FairDiffusion on two widely-used external medical datasets: HAM10000 (dermatoscopic images) and CheXpert (chest X-rays) to demonstrate FairDiffusion's effectiveness in addressing fairness concerns across diverse medical imaging modalities. Online services that desire to operate anonymously routinely host themselves as 'Hidden Services' in the Tor network. However, these services are frequently threatened by deanonymization attacks, whereby their IP address and location may be inferred by the authorities. We present VaulTor, a novel architecture for the Tor network to ensure an extra layer of security for the Hidden Services against deanonymization attacks. In this new architecture, a volunteer (vault) is incentivized to host the web application content on behalf of the Hidden Service. The vault runs the hosted application in a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) and becomes the point of contact for interested clients. This setup can substantially reduce the uptime requirement of the original Hidden Service provider and hence significantly decrease the chance of deanonymization attacks against them. We also show that the VaulTor architecture does not cause any noticeable performance degradation in accessing the hosted content (the performance degradation ranges from 2.6-5.5%)., Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures

We present a thorough performance and energy consumption analysis of the LULESH proxy application in its OpenMP and MPI variants on two different clusters based on Intel Ice Lake (ICL) and Sapphire Rapids (SPR) CPUs. We first study the strong scaling and power consumption characteristics of the six hot spot functions in the code on the node level, with a special focus on memory bandwidth utilization. We then proceed with the construction of a detailed Roofline performance model for each memory-bound hot spot, which we validate using hardware performance counter measurements. We also comment on the observed discrepancies between the analytical model and the observations. To discern the influence of the programming model from the influence of implementation of the code, we compare the performance of OpenMP and MPI based on problem size, examining if the underlying implementation is equivalent for large problems, and if differences in overheads are more significant at smaller problem sizes. We also conduct an analysis of the power dissipation, energy to solution, and energy-delay product (EDP) of the hot spots, quantifying the influence of problem size, core and uncore clock frequency, and number of active cores per ccNUMA domain. Relevant energy savings are only possible for memory-bound functions by using fewer cores per ccNUMA domain and/or reducing the core clock speed. A major issue is the very high extrapolated baseline power on both chips, which makes concurrency throttling less effective. Grasping is essential in robotic manipulation, yet challenging due to object and gripper diversity and real-world complexities. Traditional analytic approaches often have long optimization times, while data-driven methods struggle with unseen objects. This paper formulates the problem as a rigid shape matching between gripper and object, which optimizes with Annealed Stein Iterative Closest Point (AS-ICP) and leverages GPU-based parallelization. By incorporating the gripper's tool center point and the object's center of mass into the cost function and using a signed distance field of the gripper for collision checking, our method achieves robust grasps with low computational time. Experiments with the Kinova KG3 gripper show an 87.3% success rate and 0.926 s computation time across various objects and settings, highlighting its potential for real-world applications.

The primary challenge in Video Object Detection (VOD) is effectively exploiting temporal information to enhance object representations. Traditional strategies, such as aggregating region proposals, often suffer from feature variance due to the inclusion of background information. We introduce a novel instance mask-based feature aggregation approach, significantly refining this process and deepening the understanding of object dynamics across video frames. We present FAIM, a new VOD method that enhances temporal Feature Aggregation by leveraging Instance Mask features. In particular, we propose the lightweight Instance Feature Extraction Module (IFEM) to learn instance mask features and the Temporal Instance Classification Aggregation Module (TICAM) to aggregate instance mask and classification features across video frames. Using YOLOX as a base detector, FAIM achieves 87.9% mAP on the ImageNet VID dataset at 33 FPS on a single 2080Ti GPU, setting a new benchmark for the speed-accuracy trade-off. Additional experiments on multiple datasets validate that our approach is robust, method-agnostic, and effective in multi-object tracking, demonstrating its broader applicability to video understanding tasks., Comment: To appear in WACV 2025

In recent years, the challenge of 3D shape analysis within point cloud data has gathered significant attention in computer vision. Addressing the complexities of effective 3D information representation and meaningful feature extraction for classification tasks remains crucial. This paper presents Point-GR, a novel deep learning architecture designed explicitly to transform unordered raw point clouds into higher dimensions while preserving local geometric features. It introduces residual-based learning within the network to mitigate the point permutation issues in point cloud data. The proposed Point-GR network significantly reduced the number of network parameters in Classification and Part-Segmentation compared to baseline graph-based networks. Notably, the Point-GR model achieves a state-of-the-art scene segmentation mean IoU of 73.47% on the S3DIS benchmark dataset, showcasing its effectiveness. We present numerous aspects of the evolution of the LP 890-9 (SPECULOOS-2/TOI-4306) planetary system, focusing on the likelihood that planet c can support life. We find that the host star reaches the main sequence in 1 Gyr and that planet c lies close to the inner boundary of the habitable zone. We find the magma ocean stage can last up to 50 Myr, remove 8 Earth-oceans of water, and leave up to 2000 bars of oxygen in the atmosphere. However, if the planet forms with a hydrogen envelope as small as 0.1 Earth-masses, no water will be lost during the star's pre-main sequence phase from thermal escape processes. We find that the planets are unlikely to be in a 3:1 mean motion resonance and that both planets tidally circularize within 0.5 Gyr when tidal dissipation is held constant. However, if tidal dissipation is a function of mantle temperature and rheology, then we find that planet c's orbit may require more than 7 Gyr to circularize, during which time tidal heating may reach hundreds of terawatts. We thus conclude that the habitability of planet c depends most strongly on the initial volatile content and internal properties, but no data yet preclude the viability of an active biosphere on the planet., Comment: 16 pages, 9 figures, accepted to PSJ

Generating high-fidelity 3D content from text prompts remains a significant challenge in computer vision due to the limited size, diversity, and annotation depth of the existing datasets. To address this, we introduce MARVEL-40M+, an extensive dataset with 40 million text annotations for over 8.9 million 3D assets aggregated from seven major 3D datasets. Our contribution is a novel multi-stage annotation pipeline that integrates open-source pretrained multi-view VLMs and LLMs to automatically produce multi-level descriptions, ranging from detailed (150-200 words) to concise semantic tags (10-20 words). This structure supports both fine-grained 3D reconstruction and rapid prototyping. Furthermore, we incorporate human metadata from source datasets into our annotation pipeline to add domain-specific information in our annotation and reduce VLM hallucinations. Additionally, we develop MARVEL-FX3D, a two-stage text-to-3D pipeline. We fine-tune Stable Diffusion with our annotations and use a pretrained image-to-3D network to generate 3D textured meshes within 15s. Extensive evaluations show that MARVEL-40M+ significantly outperforms existing datasets in annotation quality and linguistic diversity, achieving win rates of 72.41% by GPT-4 and 73.40% by human evaluators.

Here, we present the outcomes from the second Large Language Model (LLM) Hackathon for Applications in Materials Science and Chemistry, which engaged participants across global hybrid locations, resulting in 34 team submissions. The submissions spanned seven key application areas and demonstrated the diverse utility of LLMs for applications in (1) molecular and material property prediction; (2) molecular and material design; (3) automation and novel interfaces; (4) scientific communication and education; (5) research data management and automation; (6) hypothesis generation and evaluation; and (7) knowledge extraction and reasoning from scientific literature. Each team submission is presented in a summary table with links to the code and as brief papers in the appendix. Beyond team results, we discuss the hackathon event and its hybrid format, which included physical hubs in Toronto, Montreal, San Francisco, Berlin, Lausanne, and Tokyo, alongside a global online hub to enable local and virtual collaboration. Overall, the event highlighted significant improvements in LLM capabilities since the previous year's hackathon, suggesting continued expansion of LLMs for applications in materials science and chemistry research. Given the growing trend of many organizations integrating Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) into their operations, we assess RAG on domain-specific data and test state-of-the-art models across various optimization techniques. We incorporate four optimizations; Multi-Query, Child-Parent-Retriever, Ensemble Retriever, and In-Context-Learning, to enhance the functionality and performance in the academic domain. We focus on data retrieval, specifically targeting various study programs at a large technical university. We additionally introduce a novel evaluation approach, the RAG Confusion Matrix designed to assess the effectiveness of various configurations within the RAG framework. By exploring the integration of both open-source (e.g., Llama2, Mistral) and closed-source (GPT-3.5 and GPT-4) Large Language Models, we offer valuable insights into the application and optimization of RAG frameworks in domain-specific contexts. Our experiments show a significant performance increase when including multi-query in the retrieval phase.

In order to address the nonlinear multi-agent formation tracking control problem with input constraints and unknown communication faults, a novel adaptive distributed observer-based distributed model predictive control method is developed in this paper. This design employs adaptive distributed observers in local control systems to estimate the leader's state, dynamics, and relative positioning with respect to the leader. Utilizing the estimated data as local references, the original formation tracking control problem can be decomposed into several fully localized tracking control problems, which can be efficiently solved by the local predictive controller. Through the incorporation of adaptive distributed observers, this proposed design not only enhances the resilience of distributed formation tracking against communication faults but also simplifies the distributed model predictive control formulation.

Time synchronization is a critical component in network operation and management, and it is also required by Ultra-Reliable, Low-Latency Communications (URLLC) in next-generation wireless systems such as those of 5G, 6G, and Open RAN. In this context, we design and implement AraSync as an end-to-end time synchronization system in the ARA wireless living lab to enable advanced wireless experiments and applications involving stringent time constraints. We make use of Precision Time Protocol (PTP) at different levels to achieve synchronization accuracy in the order of nanoseconds. Along with fiber networks, AraSync enables time synchronization across the AraHaul wireless x-haul network consisting of long-range, high-capacity mmWave and microwave links. In this paper, we present the detailed design and implementation of AraSync, including its hardware and software components and the PTP network topology. Further, we experimentally characterize the performance of AraSync from spatial and temporal dimensions. Optimizing framerate for a given bitrate-spatial resolution pair in adaptive video streaming is essential to maintain perceptual quality while considering decoding complexity. Low framerates at low bitrates reduce compression artifacts and decrease decoding energy. We propose a novel method, Decoding-complexity aware Framerate Prediction (DECODRA), which employs a Variable Framerate Pareto-front approach to predict an optimized framerate that minimizes decoding energy under quality degradation constraints. DECODRA dynamically adjusts the framerate based on current bitrate and spatial resolution, balancing trade-offs between framerate, perceptual quality, and decoding complexity. Extensive experimentation with the Inter-4K dataset demonstrates DECODRA's effectiveness, yielding an average decoding energy reduction of up to 13.45%, with minimal VMAF reduction of 0.33 points at a low-quality degradation threshold, compared to the default 60 fps encoding. Even at an aggressive threshold, DECODRA achieves significant energy savings of 13.45% while only reducing VMAF by 2.11 points. We propose ClassroomKD, a novel multi-mentor knowledge distillation framework inspired by classroom environments to enhance knowledge transfer between student and multiple mentors. Unlike traditional methods that rely on fixed mentor-student relationships, our framework dynamically selects and adapts the teaching strategies of diverse mentors based on their effectiveness for each data sample. ClassroomKD comprises two main modules: the Knowledge Filtering (KF) Module and the Mentoring Module. The KF Module dynamically ranks mentors based on their performance for each input, activating only high-quality mentors to minimize error accumulation and prevent information loss. The Mentoring Module adjusts the distillation strategy by tuning each mentor's influence according to the performance gap between the student and mentors, effectively modulating the learning pace. Extensive experiments on image classification (CIFAR-100 and ImageNet) and 2D human pose estimation (COCO Keypoints and MPII Human Pose) demonstrate that ClassroomKD significantly outperforms existing knowledge distillation methods. Our results highlight that a dynamic and adaptive approach to mentor selection and guidance leads to more effective knowledge transfer, paving the way for enhanced model performance through distillation.

Layered material $\beta$-IrSn$_4$ ($I4_1/acd$, $D^{20}_{4h}$, #142), whose electron bands have symmetry-enforced Dirac points, was investigated using high-quality single crystals. It exhibits a pronounced linear field-dependence of magnetoresistance (LMR), which cannot be explained by currently existing models. Structures in the field-angle dependence of magnetoresistance and Hall resistivity are attributable to the Fermi surface topology; the presence of open orbits is inferred. At the superconducting (SC) transition, the specific-heat jump exhibits a significant increase in applied fields, revealing the type-I SC nature. This feature is attributable to the high Fermi velocity of linearly dispersive multibands. To clarify the mechanism of the puzzling LMR, investigations into the topological nature of those multibands in applied fields are highly desired.

Climate change has led to an increase in the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, posing significant challenges for power distribution systems. In response, this work presents a planning approach in order to enhance the resilience of distribution systems against climatic hazards. The framework systematically addresses uncertainties during extreme events, including weather variability and line damage. Key strategies include line hardening, backup diesel generators, and sectionalizers to strengthen resilience. We model spatio-temporal dynamics and costs through a hybrid model integrating stochastic processes with deterministic elements. A two-stage stochastic mixed-integer linear approach is developed to optimize resilience investments against load loss, generator operations, and repairs. Case studies on the IEEE 15-bus benchmark system and a realistic distribution grid model in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia demonstrate enhanced system robustness as well as cost efficiency of 10% and 15%, respectively., Comment: CIRED Chicago Workshop 2024: Resilience of Electric Distribution Systems

This paper reformulates cross-dataset human pose estimation as a continual learning task, aiming to integrate new keypoints and pose variations into existing models without losing accuracy on previously learned datasets. We benchmark this formulation against established regularization-based methods for mitigating catastrophic forgetting, including EWC, LFL, and LwF. Moreover, we propose a novel regularization method called Importance-Weighted Distillation (IWD), which enhances conventional LwF by introducing a layer-wise distillation penalty and dynamic temperature adjustment based on layer importance for previously learned knowledge. This allows for a controlled adaptation to new tasks that respects the stability-plasticity balance critical in continual learning. Through extensive experiments across three datasets, we demonstrate that our approach outperforms existing regularization-based continual learning strategies. IWD shows an average improvement of 3.60\% over the state-of-the-art LwF method. The results highlight the potential of our method to serve as a robust framework for real-world applications where models must evolve with new data without forgetting past knowledge.

Prototyping complex computer-aided design (CAD) models in modern softwares can be very time-consuming. This is due to the lack of intelligent systems that can quickly generate simpler intermediate parts. We propose Text2CAD, the first AI framework for generating text-to-parametric CAD models using designer-friendly instructions for all skill levels. Furthermore, we introduce a data annotation pipeline for generating text prompts based on natural language instructions for the DeepCAD dataset using Mistral and LLaVA-NeXT. The dataset contains $\sim170$K models and $\sim660$K text annotations, from abstract CAD descriptions (e.g., generate two concentric cylinders) to detailed specifications (e.g., draw two circles with center $(x,y)$ and radius $r_{1}$, $r_{2}$, and extrude along the normal by $d$...). Within the Text2CAD framework, we propose an end-to-end transformer-based auto-regressive network to generate parametric CAD models from input texts. We evaluate the performance of our model through a mixture of metrics, including visual quality, parametric precision, and geometrical accuracy. In today's businesses, marketing has been a central trend for growth. Marketing quality is equally important as product quality and relevant metrics. Quality of Marketing depends on targeting the right person. Technology adaptations have been slow in many fields but have captured some aspects of human life to make an impact. For instance, in marketing, recent developments have provided a significant shift toward data-driven approaches. In this paper, we present an advertisement model using behavioral and tracking analysis. We extract users' behavioral data upholding their privacy principle and perform data manipulations and pattern mining for effective analysis. We present a model using the agent-based modeling (ABM) technique, with the target audience of rapid transit system users to target the right person for advertisement applications. We also outline the Overview, Design, and Details concept of ABM.

In this paper, we introduce the KANtrol framework, which utilizes Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KANs) to solve optimal control problems involving continuous time variables. We explain how Gaussian quadrature can be employed to approximate the integral parts within the problem, particularly for integro-differential state equations. We also demonstrate how automatic differentiation is utilized to compute exact derivatives for integer-order dynamics, while for fractional derivatives of non-integer order, we employ matrix-vector product discretization within the KAN framework. We tackle multi-dimensional problems, including the optimal control of a 2D heat partial differential equation. The results of our simulations, which cover both forward and parameter identification problems, show that the KANtrol framework outperforms classical MLPs in terms of accuracy and efficiency.

This paper introduces a novel methodology for solving distributed-order fractional differential equations using a physics-informed machine learning framework. The core of this approach involves extending the support vector regression (SVR) algorithm to approximate the unknown solutions of the governing equations during the training phase. By embedding the distributed-order functional equation into the SVR framework, we incorporate physical laws directly into the learning process. To further enhance computational efficiency, Gegenbauer orthogonal polynomials are employed as the kernel function, capitalizing on their fractional differentiation properties to streamline the problem formulation. Finally, the resulting optimization problem of SVR is addressed either as a quadratic programming problem or as a positive definite system in its dual form. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated through a series of numerical experiments on Caputo-based distributed-order fractional differential equations, encompassing both ordinary and partial derivatives.

Long-distance transport plays a vital role in the economic growth of countries. However, there is a lack of systems being developed for monitoring and support of long-route vehicles (LRV). Sustainable and context-aware transport systems with modern technologies are needed. We model for long-distance vehicle transportation monitoring and support systems in a multi-agent environment. Our model incorporates the distance vehicle transport mechanism through agent-based modeling (ABM). This model constitutes the design protocol of ABM called Overview, Design, and Details (ODD). This model constitutes that every category of agents is offering information as a service. Hence, a federation of services through protocol for the communication between sensors and software components is desired. Such integration of services supports monitoring and tracking of vehicles on the route. The model simulations provide useful results for the integration of services based on smart objects.

This paper introduces an efficient tensor-vector product technique for the rapid and accurate approximation of integral operators within physics-informed deep learning frameworks. Our approach leverages neural network architectures to evaluate problem dynamics at specific points, while employing Gaussian quadrature formulas to approximate the integral components, even in the presence of infinite domains or singularities. We demonstrate the applicability of this method to both Fredholm and Volterra integral operators, as well as to optimal control problems involving continuous time. Additionally, we outline how this approach can be extended to approximate fractional derivatives and integrals and propose a fast matrix-vector product algorithm for efficiently computing the fractional Caputo derivative. In the numerical section, we conduct comprehensive experiments on forward and inverse problems. For forward problems, we evaluate the performance of our method on over 50 diverse mathematical problems, including multi-dimensional integral equations, systems of integral equations, partial and fractional integro-differential equations, and various optimal control problems in delay, fractional, multi-dimensional, and nonlinear configurations. For inverse problems, we test our approach on several integral equations and fractional integro-differential problems. The ease of access to large language models (LLMs) has enabled a widespread of machine-generated texts, and now it is often hard to tell whether a piece of text was human-written or machine-generated. This raises concerns about potential misuse, particularly within educational and academic domains. Thus, it is important to develop practical systems that can automate the process. Here, we present one such system, LLM-DetectAIve, designed for fine-grained detection. Unlike most previous work on machine-generated text detection, which focused on binary classification, LLM-DetectAIve supports four categories: (i) human-written, (ii) machine-generated, (iii) machine-written, then machine-humanized, and (iv) human-written, then machine-polished. Category (iii) aims to detect attempts to obfuscate the fact that a text was machine-generated, while category (iv) looks for cases where the LLM was used to polish a human-written text, which is typically acceptable in academic writing, but not in education. Our experiments show that LLM-DetectAIve can effectively identify the above four categories, which makes it a potentially useful tool in education, academia, and other domains. Traditional base station siting (BSS) methods rely heavily on drive testing and user feedback, which are laborious and require extensive expertise in communication, networking, and optimization. As large language models (LLMs) and their associated technologies advance, particularly in the realms of prompt engineering and agent engineering, network optimization will witness a revolutionary approach. This approach entails the strategic use of well-crafted prompts to infuse human experience and knowledge into these sophisticated LLMs, and the deployment of autonomous agents as a communication bridge to seamlessly connect the machine language based LLMs with human users using natural language. Furthermore, our proposed framework incorporates retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) to enhance the system's ability to acquire domain-specific knowledge and generate solutions, thereby enabling the customization and optimization of the BSS process. This integration represents the future paradigm of artificial intelligence (AI) as a service and AI for more ease. This research first develops a novel LLM-empowered BSS optimization framework, and heuristically proposes three different potential implementations: the strategies based on Prompt-optimized LLM (PoL), LLM-empowered autonomous BSS agent (LaBa), and Cooperative multiple LLM-based autonomous BSS agents (CLaBa). Through evaluation on real-world data, the experiments demonstrate that prompt-assisted LLMs and LLM-based agents can generate more efficient and reliable network deployments, noticeably enhancing the efficiency of BSS optimization and reducing trivial manual participation.

Iris recognition is widely used in several fields such as mobile phones, financial transactions, identification cards, airport security, international border control, voter registration for living persons. However, the possibility of identifying deceased individuals based on their iris patterns has emerged recently as a supplementary or alternative method valuable in forensic analysis. Simultaneously, it poses numerous new technological challenges and one of the most challenging among them is the image segmentation stage as conventional iris recognition approaches have struggled to reliably execute it. This paper presents and compares Deep Learning (DL) models designed for segmenting iris images collected from the deceased subjects, by training SegNet and DeepLabV3+ semantic segmentation methods where using VGG19, ResNet18, ResNet50, MobileNetv2, Xception, or InceptionResNetv2 as backbones. In this study, our experiments demonstrate that our proposed method effectively learns and identifies specific deformations inherent in post-mortem samples and providing a significant improvement in accuracy. By employing our novel method MobileNetv2 as the backbone of DeepLabV3+ and replacing the final layer with a hybrid loss function combining Boundary and Dice loss, we achieve Mean Intersection over Union of 95.54% on the Warsaw-BioBase-PostMortem-Iris-v1 dataset. Ear recognition as a biometric modality is becoming increasingly popular, with promising broader application areas. While current applications involve adults, one of the challenges in ear recognition for children is the rapid structural changes in the ear as they age. This work introduces a foundational longitudinal dataset collected from children aged 4 to 14 years over a 2.5-year period and evaluates ear recognition performance in this demographic. Economic hardships significantly affect public perception and voting intentions in general elections. The primary focus of my study is to capture the degree of influence that individual economic hardships have on their voting. I utilize the ANES 2024 Pilot Study1 Survey dataset and introduce a novel composite Inflation Behavior Index (IBR) that captures individuals' cumulative economic and cost of living experience. To that effect, the primary objectives of the current study are threefold: first, to develop a composite economic behavior index from available data and variables to capture the overall economic experience of U.S. individuals due to ongoing inflation; second, to examine how this economic behavior impacts political engagement and voting behavior utilizing appropriate and fitting mathematical models; and finally which specific personal experiences and perceptions about economy and cost of living likely to revoke party loyalty in upcoming U.S. presidential election. My study finds that increased personal economic struggles (pocketbook voting) due to inflation make it more likely for individuals to express an intention to vote against the Incumbent even if the Incumbent is from their self-identified political party. Conversely, having a negative perception of the national economy (sociotropic voting) is less likely to revoke party loyalty in the upcoming General election. In this study, using the density functional theory, we have investigated the bulk physical properties like structural, electronic band structure, elastic properties, thermal properties, optical properties and bonding features of AlPO4 compound in the hexagonal form. The values of our optimized structural parameters are very close to the previous results. Most of the results presented in this work are novel. The elastic constants indicate that AlPO4 is mechanically stable and brittle in nature. The compound is moderately hard and possesses low machinability index. AlPO4 contains significant elastic anisotropy. The charge density distribution , bond population analysis, Vickers hardness, thermo-mechanical properties, and optical properties have been investigated for the first time. The electronic band structure calculations reveal clear insulating behavior with a band gap of 6.0 eV. Band structure calculations were carried out without and with spin-orbit coupling (SOC) to explore possible topological signature. The energy dependent optical properties conform to the electronic band structure calculations. Major optical properties like dielectric functions, refractive index, photoconductivity, absorption coefficient, loss function and reflectivity are calculated and discussed in detail in this study. The compound is optically anisotropic. It is an efficient absorber and reflector of the ultraviolet light.

We investigate the possibility that primordial black holes (PBHs) can be formed from large curvature perturbations generated during the waterfall phase transition in a supersymmetric scenario where sneutrino is the inflaton in a hybrid inflationary framework. We obtain a spectral index ($n_s \simeq 0.966$), and a tensor-to-scalar ratio ($r\simeq 0.0056-10^{-11}$), consistent with the current Planck data satisfying PBH as dark matter (DM) and detectable Gravitational Wave (GW) signal. Our findings show that the mass of PBH and the peak in the GW spectrum is correlated with the right-handed (s)neutrino mass. We identify parameter space where PBHs can be the entire DM candidate of the universe (with mass $10^{-13}\, M_\odot$) or a fraction of it. This can be tested in future observatories, for example, with amplitude $\Omega_{\rm GW}h^2$ $\sim 10^{-9}$ and peak frequency $f\sim 0.1$ Hz in LISA and $\Omega_{\rm GW}h^2 \sim 10^{-11}$ and peak frequency of $\sim 10$ Hz in ET via second-order GW signals. We study two models of sneutrino inflation: Model$-1$ involves canonical sneutrino kinetic term which predicts the sub-Planckian mass parameter $M$, while the coupling between a gauge singlet and the waterfall field, $\beta$, needs to be quite large whereas, for the model$-2$ involving $\alpha-$attractor canonical sneutrino kinetic term, $\beta$ can take a natural value. Estimating explicitly, we show that both models have mild fine-tuning. We also derive an analytical expression for the power spectrum in terms of the microphysics parameters of the model like (s)neutrino mass, etc. that fits well with the numerical results. Despite the advances in the abstractive summarization task using Large Language Models (LLM), there is a lack of research that asses their abilities to easily adapt to different domains. We evaluate the domain adaptation abilities of a wide range of LLMs on the summarization task across various domains in both fine-tuning and in-context learning settings. We also present AdaptEval, the first domain adaptation evaluation suite. AdaptEval includes a domain benchmark and a set of metrics to facilitate the analysis of domain adaptation. Our results demonstrate that LLMs exhibit comparable performance in the in-context learning setting, regardless of their parameter scale.

Addressing fairness in artificial intelligence (AI), particularly in medical AI, is crucial for ensuring equitable healthcare outcomes. Recent efforts to enhance fairness have introduced new methodologies and datasets in medical AI. However, the fairness issue under the setting of domain transfer is almost unexplored, while it is common that clinics rely on different imaging technologies (e.g., different retinal imaging modalities) for patient diagnosis. This paper presents FairDomain, a pioneering systemic study into algorithmic fairness under domain shifts, employing state-of-the-art domain adaptation (DA) and generalization (DG) algorithms for both medical segmentation and classification tasks to understand how biases are transferred between different domains. We also introduce a novel plug-and-play fair identity attention (FIA) module that adapts to various DA and DG algorithms to improve fairness by using self-attention to adjust feature importance based on demographic attributes. Additionally, we curate the first fairness-focused dataset with two paired imaging modalities for the same patient cohort on medical segmentation and classification tasks, to rigorously assess fairness in domain-shift scenarios. Excluding the confounding impact of demographic distribution variation between source and target domains will allow clearer quantification of the performance of domain transfer models. Our extensive evaluations reveal that the proposed FIA significantly enhances both model performance accounted for fairness across all domain shift settings (i.e., DA and DG) with respect to different demographics, which outperforms existing methods on both segmentation and classification. The impressive advancements in semi-supervised learning have driven researchers to explore its potential in object detection tasks within the field of computer vision. Semi-Supervised Object Detection (SSOD) leverages a combination of a small labeled dataset and a larger, unlabeled dataset. This approach effectively reduces the dependence on large labeled datasets, which are often expensive and time-consuming to obtain. Initially, SSOD models encountered challenges in effectively leveraging unlabeled data and managing noise in generated pseudo-labels for unlabeled data. However, numerous recent advancements have addressed these issues, resulting in substantial improvements in SSOD performance. This paper presents a comprehensive review of 27 cutting-edge developments in SSOD methodologies, from Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) to Transformers. We delve into the core components of semi-supervised learning and its integration into object detection frameworks, covering data augmentation techniques, pseudo-labeling strategies, consistency regularization, and adversarial training methods. Furthermore, we conduct a comparative analysis of various SSOD models, evaluating their performance and architectural differences. We aim to ignite further research interest in overcoming existing challenges and exploring new directions in semi-supervised learning for object detection.

This white paper summarizes the Workshop on Polarized Target Studies with Real Photons in Hall D at Jefferson Lab, that took place on 21 February 2024. The Workshop included about 45 participants both online and in person at Florida State University in Tallahassee. Contributions describe the experimental infrastructure available in Hall D and potential physics applications. The rate and detection capabilities of Hall D are outlined, as well as the properties of a circularly polarized photon beam and a polarized target. Possible physics measurements include light and strange quark baryon spectroscopy, the GDH sum rule, proton structure accessed through measurement of Generalized Parton Distributions and modification of nucleon structure within the nuclear medium., Comment: 25 pages, 8 figures

Large Language Models have found application in various mundane and repetitive tasks including Human Resource (HR) support. We worked with the domain experts of SAP SE to develop an HR support chatbot as an efficient and effective tool for addressing employee inquiries. We inserted a human-in-the-loop in various parts of the development cycles such as dataset collection, prompt optimization, and evaluation of generated output. By enhancing the LLM-driven chatbot's response quality and exploring alternative retrieval methods, we have created an efficient, scalable, and flexible tool for HR professionals to address employee inquiries effectively. Our experiments and evaluation conclude that GPT-4 outperforms other models and can overcome inconsistencies in data through internal reasoning capabilities. Additionally, through expert analysis, we infer that reference-free evaluation metrics such as G-Eval and Prometheus demonstrate reliability closely aligned with that of human evaluation.

The spin-exotic hybrid meson $\pi_{1}(1600)$ is predicted to have a large decay rate to the $\omega\pi\pi$ final state. Using 76.6~pb$^{-1}$ of data collected with the GlueX detector, we measure the cross sections for the reactions $\gamma p \to \omega \pi^+ \pi^- p$, $\gamma p \to \omega \pi^0 \pi^0 p$, and $\gamma p\to\omega\pi^-\pi^0\Delta^{++}$ in the range $E_\gamma =$ 8-10 GeV. Using isospin conservation, we set the first upper limits on the photoproduction cross sections of the $\pi^{0}_{1}(1600)$ and $\pi^{-}_{1}(1600)$. We combine these limits with lattice calculations of decay widths and find that photoproduction of $\eta'\pi$ is the most sensitive two-body system to search for the $\pi_1(1600)$., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures plus supplemental materials

Reconstructing texture-less surfaces poses unique challenges in computer vision, primarily due to the lack of specialized datasets that cater to the nuanced needs of depth and normals estimation in the absence of textural information. We introduce "Shape2.5D," a novel, large-scale dataset designed to address this gap. Comprising 1.17 million frames spanning over 39,772 3D models and 48 unique objects, our dataset provides depth and surface normal maps for texture-less object reconstruction. The proposed dataset includes synthetic images rendered with 3D modeling software to simulate various lighting conditions and viewing angles. It also includes a real-world subset comprising 4,672 frames captured with a depth camera. Our comprehensive benchmarks demonstrate the dataset's ability to support the development of algorithms that robustly estimate depth and normals from RGB images and perform voxel reconstruction. Our open-source data generation pipeline allows the dataset to be extended and adapted for future research. The development of Kolmogorov-Arnold networks (KANs) marks a significant shift from traditional multi-layer perceptrons in deep learning. Initially, KANs employed B-spline curves as their primary basis function, but their inherent complexity posed implementation challenges. Consequently, researchers have explored alternative basis functions such as Wavelets, Polynomials, and Fractional functions. In this research, we explore the use of rational functions as a novel basis function for KANs. We propose two different approaches based on Pade approximation and rational Jacobi functions as trainable basis functions, establishing the rational KAN (rKAN). Automated signature verification on bank checks is critical for fraud prevention and ensuring transaction authenticity. This task is challenging due to the coexistence of signatures with other textual and graphical elements on real-world documents. Verification systems must first detect the signature and then validate its authenticity, a dual challenge often overlooked by current datasets and methodologies focusing only on verification. To address this gap, we introduce a novel dataset specifically designed for signature verification on bank checks. This dataset includes a variety of signature styles embedded within typical check elements, providing a realistic testing ground for advanced detection methods. Moreover, we propose a novel approach for writer-independent signature verification using an object detection network. Our detection-based verification method treats genuine and forged signatures as distinct classes within an object detection framework, effectively handling both detection and verification. We employ a DINO-based network augmented with a dilation module to detect and verify signatures on check images simultaneously. Our approach achieves an AP of 99.2 for genuine and 99.4 for forged signatures, a significant improvement over the DINO baseline, which scored 93.1 and 89.3 for genuine and forged signatures, respectively. This improvement highlights our dilation module's effectiveness in reducing both false positives and negatives. Large language models (LLMs) have achieved remarkable success in text-based tasks but often struggle to provide actionable guidance in real-world physical environments. This is because of their inability to recognize their limited understanding of the user's physical context. We present SituationalLLM, a novel approach that integrates structured scene information into an LLM to deliver proactive, context-aware assistance. By encoding objects, attributes, and relationships in a custom Scene Graph Language, SituationalLLM actively identifies gaps in environmental context and seeks clarifications during user interactions. This behavior emerges from training on the Situational Awareness Database for Instruct-Tuning (SAD-Instruct), which combines diverse, scenario-specific scene graphs with iterative, dialogue-based refinements. Experimental results indicate that SituationalLLM outperforms generic LLM baselines in task specificity, reliability, and adaptability, paving the way for environment-aware AI assistants capable of delivering robust, user-centric guidance under real-world constraints., Comment: Revised Submission to Open Research Europe

We measure the spin-density matrix elements (SDMEs) of the $\Delta^{++}(1232)$ in the photoproduction reaction $\gamma p \to \pi^-\Delta^{++}(1232)$ with the GlueX experiment in Hall D at Jefferson Lab. The measurement uses a linearly--polarized photon beam with energies from $8.2$ to $8.8$~GeV and the statistical precision of the SDMEs exceeds the previous measurement by three orders of magnitude for the momentum transfer squared region below $1.4$ GeV$^2$. The data are sensitive to the previously undetermined relative sign between couplings in existing Regge-exchange models. Linear combinations of the extracted SDMEs allow for a decomposition into natural and unnatural--exchange amplitudes. We find that the unnatural exchange plays an important role in the low momentum transfer region.

Recent improvements in the quality of the generations by large language models have spurred research into identifying machine-generated text. Such work often presents high-performing detectors. However, humans and machines can produce text in different styles and domains, yet the performance impact of such on machine generated text detection systems remains unclear. In this paper, we audit the classification performance for detecting machine-generated text by evaluating on texts with varying writing styles. We find that classifiers are highly sensitive to stylistic changes and differences in text complexity, and in some cases degrade entirely to random classifiers. We further find that detection systems are particularly susceptible to misclassify easy-to-read texts while they have high performance for complex texts, leading to concerns about the reliability of detection systems. We recommend that future work attends to stylistic factors and reading difficulty levels of human-written and machine-generated text., Comment: Accepted to COLING 2025

Recent advancements in neural network design have given rise to the development of Kolmogorov-Arnold Networks (KANs), which enhance speed, interpretability, and precision. This paper presents the Fractional Kolmogorov-Arnold Network (fKAN), a novel neural network architecture that incorporates the distinctive attributes of KANs with a trainable adaptive fractional-orthogonal Jacobi function as its basis function. By leveraging the unique mathematical properties of fractional Jacobi functions, including simple derivative formulas, non-polynomial behavior, and activity for both positive and negative input values, this approach ensures efficient learning and enhanced accuracy. The proposed architecture is evaluated across a range of tasks in deep learning and physics-informed deep learning. Precision is tested on synthetic regression data, image classification, image denoising, and sentiment analysis. Additionally, the performance is measured on various differential equations, including ordinary, partial, and fractional delay differential equations. The results demonstrate that integrating fractional Jacobi functions into KANs significantly improves training speed and performance across diverse fields and applications.
