Purpose: Examine the reliability of field-based fitness assessments in school-aged children with emotional or behavioral difficulties (EBD). Understanding the impact of fitness on physical activity participation for children with EBD is limited by our ability to reliably measure it. Methods: Fifteen children aged 7–12 years with EBD completed 7 assessments—standing broad jump, overhead throw, grip strength, isometric plank hold, isometric wall squat, unilateral heel raise, and modified 6-minute walk test—in a random order on 2 separate occasions. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were computed to evaluate reliability. Results: ICCs ranged from.65 to.99 representing moderate to excellent reliability for all assessments. Shorter assessments requiring less attention and behavior regulation tended to demonstrate higher ICC values while assessments with greater attention or behavioral regulation demands tended to have lower ICC values. Conclusion: Results demonstrate varied reliability for fitness tests in children with EBD. Practitioners can use grip strength and standing broad jump assessments with confidence. Circadian rhythms are approximate 24-hour rhythms present in nearly all aspects of human physiology, including proper brain function. These rhythms are produced at the cellular level through a transcriptional-translational feedback loop known as the molecular clock. Diurnal variation in gene expression has been demonstrated in brain tissue from multiple species, including humans, in both cortical and subcortical regions. Interestingly, these rhythms in gene expression have been shown to be disrupted across psychiatric disorders and may be implicated in their underlying pathophysiology. However, little is known regarding molecular rhythms in specific cell types in the brain and how they might be involved in psychiatric disease. Although glial cells (e.g., astrocytes, microglia, and oligodendrocytes) have been historically understudied compared to neurons, evidence of the molecular clock is found within each of these cell subtypes. Here, we review the current literature, which suggests that molecular rhythmicity is essential to functional physiologic outputs from each glial subtype. Furthermore, disrupted molecular rhythms within these cells and the resultant functional deficits may be relevant to specific phenotypes across psychiatric illnesses. Given that circadian rhythm disruptions have been so integrally tied to psychiatric disease, the molecular mechanisms governing these associations could represent exciting new avenues for future research and potential novel pharmacologic targets for treatment. Pediatric OCD is associated with functional impairment in multiple environments. However, relatively little is known about the impact of comorbid conditions, as well as OCD severity on psychosocial functioning in this population. Furthermore, most studies did not include a control sample, nor examined differences between children and adolescents. The goal of this investigation was to assess psychosocial functioning and its associations with age, symptom severity, and comorbid conditions in a large well characterized sample of pediatric OCD probands, and controls. Participants included 117 pediatric OCD probands and 147 controls, that underwent a careful diagnostic process, and completed several questionnaires and interviews. Results revealed significant psychosocial impairments across multiple domains/settings, some of which were affected by symptom severity as well as by conduct related comorbidities and to a lesser extent affective disorders. In addition, different aspects of psychosocial impairments were found between children and adolescents. This study provides high resolution information regarding the types and extent of psychosocial dysfunction in youth with OCD, as well as its relationship with clinical and diagnostic correlates. Youth obesity and depression are public health concerns. Although meta-analyses suggest a positive association between those conditions in adults and adolescents, evidence remains unclear in prepubertal children. We examined the bidirectional associations between levels of depressive symptoms and weight status in 8–10-year-old children with a parental history of obesity, over two years, and whether they differ by sex. Methods: Data were drawn from the QUebec Adipose and Lifestyle InvesTigation in Youth Cohort Study's baseline and first follow-up evaluations (n = 558). Depressive symptoms were assessed using the 12-item Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression scale and weight status using body mass index z-scores based on World Health Organization standards. Linear and logistic regression models were used to test the directionality and magnitude of the associations, adjusting for age, sex, physical activity, screen time, parental education, alcohol and cigarette use, and baseline outcome measure. Results: Children with higher levels of depressive symptoms at baseline were not more likely to have overweight/obesity at follow-up (odds ratio [95 % Coefficient Interval] = 0.95[0.88;1.02]). Baseline overweight/obesity was not associated with subsequent higher levels of depressive symptoms (beta coefficient [95 % Coefficient Interval] = 0.20 [−0.47;0.87]). No sex differences emerged. Limitations: Selection bias may have occurred due to loss at follow-up (10 % attrition) and exclusion of 6 participants taking mood disorder medication. Conclusions: Unlike in adults and adolescents, no association between weight status and depressive symptoms was observed in childhood over two years. Background: Identifying white matter (WM) microstructural similarities and differences between major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD) is an important way to understand the potential neuropathological mechanism in emotional disorders. Numerous diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) studies over recent decades have confirmed the presence of WM anomalies in these two affective disorders, but the results were inconsistent. This study aimed to determine the statistical consistency of DTI findings for BD and MDD by using the coordinate-based meta-analysis (CBMA) approach. Methods: We performed a systematic search of tract-based spatial statistics (TBSS) studies comparing MDD or BD with healthy controls (HC) as of June 30, 2024. The seed-based d-mapping (SDM) was applied to investigate fractional anisotropy (FA) changes. Meta-regression was then used to analyze the potential correlations between demographics and neuroimaging alterations. Results: Regional FA reductions in the body of the corpus callosum (CC) were identified in both of these two diseases. Besides, MDD patients also exhibited decreased FA in the genu and splenium of the CC, as well as the left anterior thalamic projections (ATP), while BD patients showed FA reduction in the left median network, and cingulum in addition to the CC. Conclusions: The results highlighted that altered integrity in the body of CC served as the shared basis of MDD and BD, and distinct microstructural WM abnormalities also existed, which might induce the various clinical manifestations of these two affective disorders. During fMRI neurofeedback participants learn to self-regulate activity in relevant brain areas and networks based on ongoing feedback extracted from measured responses in those regions. This closed-loop approach has been successfully applied to reduce symptoms in mood disorders such as depression by showing participants a thermometer-like display indicating the strength of activity in emotion-related brain areas. The hitherto employed conventional neurofeedback is, however, 'blind' with respect to emotional content, i.e. patients instructed to engage in a specific positive emotion could drive the neurofeedback signal by engaging in a different (positive or negative) emotion. In this future perspective, we present a new form of neurofeedback that displays semantic information of emotions to the participant. Semantic information is extracted online using real-time representational similarity analysis of emotion-specific activity patterns. The extracted semantic information can be provided to participants in a two-dimensional semantic map depicting the current mental state as a point reflecting its distance to pre-measured emotional mental states (e.g. 'happy', 'content', 'sad', 'angry'). This new approach provides transparent feedback during self-regulation training, and it has the potential to enable more specific training effects for future therapeutic applications such as clinical interventions in mood disorders. Although the Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ10) was originally designed to identify referrals for professional diagnosis for autism spectrum disorders (ASD), recent studies suggest that this instrument may also be tapping more generalised affective disorders. Working with this revised interpretation and a slightly revised measure (dropping one item), this study examines the predictive power of the AQ10 to account for additional variance, after personal and personality factors have been taken into account, on the two scales of the Francis Burnout Inventory. Data provided by 388 Anglican curates serving in their second year of ministry in the Church of England or the Church in Wales demonstrated that 3.8% of the participants recorded six or more red flags on the AQ10 (and so qualified for referral for specialist diagnostic assessment) and that higher scores on the revised AQ10 are associated with significantly lower levels of satisfaction in ministry and with significantly higher levels of emotional exhaustion in ministry. These data suggest that screening with the AQ10 may be helpful in identifying clergy vulnerable to professional burnout and to poor work-related psychological wellbeing, as well as identifying qualification for referral for specialist diagnostic assessment. Autism is associated with significantly higher rates of internalizing and externalizing disorders compared to neurotypical (NT) individuals. Emotion dysregulation (ED) is prevalent in autistic individuals and has been proposed to underlie both internalizing disorders and behavioral challenges in autism. This study sought to use a meta-analytic approach to examine the magnitude of ED severity in autistic samples compared to NT and other clinical (OC) samples. Following a review of the literature, a total of 35 studies were included in the analyses. In general, when comparing autistic to non-autistic individuals, findings suggest a medium magnitude of difference in ED severity between autistic and comparison groups overall. Subgroup analyses indicate that autistic individuals experience significantly higher ED severity when compared to NT peers. However, when compared to OC peers, the effect is small, suggesting the severity of ED may be more similar between OC and autistic groups. Moderators were also explored, including autistic traits, age, and sex composition. These findings provide integral information about the severity of ED in autistic populations compared to other non-autistic populations, assisting in further clarifying the presence of mental health challenges in autistic youth. Autistic people often experience other mental health challenges, which makes it particularly important to understand factors that may contribute to the development of these conditions. Emotion dysregulation, or difficulties in effectively regulating one's own emotions in response to a changing environment, is one factor that is experienced frequently by autistic and non-autistic people and is commonly related to a wide range of mental health conditions. This article represents a quantitative synthesis of the current state of the literature on emotion dysregulation, with a specific focus on how the severity of emotion dysregulation differs across autistic and non-autistic people across the lifespan. The findings suggest elevated emotion dysregulation in autistic individuals compared to both neurotypical and other clinical populations and provide insights into the experiences of emotion dysregulation in autistic people. Overall, this article underscores the importance of more research into emotion dysregulation in autistic people to inform areas of challenges related to emotion dysregulation that can be used to better inform treatment targets. Background: Alcohol misuse is higher among adults experiencing homelessness (AEH) compared to housed adults. Greater expectancy that alcohol will improve mood, negative affect, and lower self-efficacy have been linked to alcohol misuse in AEH. However, little is known about the momentary relationships between affect, alcohol expectancies, and self-efficacy to avoid alcohol in AEH. To our knowledge, this is the first study to examine these constructs in a sample of AEH. Methods: AEH (n = 72; Mage= 47, 85% Male, 68% Nonwhite) completed smartphone-based ecological momentary assessments 5x/day for four weeks. Generalized multilevel modeling examined the association between concurrent momentary ratings of (1) expectancy that alcohol would improve mood and negative and positive affect and (2) self-efficacy to do something other than drink to improve mood and negative and positive affect. Results: Momentary reports of increased negative affect were associated with greater expectancy that alcohol would improve mood (b = 0.25, p < 0.01), whereas momentary reports of increased positive affect were associated with less expectancy that alcohol would improve mood (b = −0.11, p < 0.01). Increased momentary negative affect was associated with less self-efficacy to improve mood without alcohol (b = −0.09, p = 0.03), but momentary reports of increased positive affect were associated with greater self-efficacy to do something other than drink to improve mood (b = 0.18, p < 0.01). Conclusion: It may be important to deliver real-time treatment messages suggesting alternatives to drinking and/or ways to boost self-efficacy during moments when negative affect is high. Autistic children show higher rates of co-occurring emotional and behavioural difficulties compared to other children in the general population. However, the environmental factors which contribute to the development of emotional (internalising) and behavioural (externalising) difficulties in autistic individuals are poorly understood. This study sought to investigate the association between harsh parenting (smacking, shouting, telling off) and the trajectories of emotional and behavioural difficulties in autistic children from ages 3 to 7. A sample comprising of 349 autistic children participated from the UK's Millennium Cohort Study. Associations between harsh parenting and child emotional and behavioural difficulties were modelled using multilevel growth curve models. In autistic children, harsh parenting was associated with total emotional and behavioural difficulties and behavioural (but not emotional) problems concurrently. Moreover, harsh parenting was not associated with changes in emotional and behavioural difficulties over time. Harsh parenting may have an important role in externalising problems in young autistic children indicating the need for public health strategies which educate parents on its effects. Background: School bullying is a group phenomenon in which being defended by peer bystanders may buffer against the development of psychological problems in victims. Aims: This registered report examines whether being defended diminished victims' daily mood problems and self‐blame, both from a within‐ and between‐person perspective. Materials and Methods: Daily diary data were collected from n = 1669 Finnish 7th–9th grade students (M age = 14.45; 55.5% girl) across 3 weeks. In n = 1329 out of 12,366 assessments (10.7%), students indicated that schoolmates victimized them on the day of bullying. Results: Multi‐level regression analyses indicated that students reported lower depressed mood, greater positive mood and lower self‐blame on days that they were victimized and defended as compared to days when they were victimized but non‐defended. Effect sizes were medium for depressed mood and small for positive mood and self‐blame. Repeated victims (n = 144) were less likely to blame themselves for victimization on days they were defended, which, in turn, diminished feelings of humiliation (mediation). Discussion: Our findings indicate that being defended benefits victims of bullying by mitigating mood problems, both directly and indirectly via diminished self‐blame. Depression is a mood disorder that affects millions of people and is one of the most prevalent mental health problems worldwide. Biological, social, and psychological factors are associated with the emergence of this disorder. Among social factors, work is an area of particular importance. Depression is one of the leading causes of time off work and performance problems. Work can also trigger depression. This paper explores the potential connection between work and depression. Specifically, it analyzes the relationship between the processes of signification at work, understood as composed of senses and meanings, and depressive symptoms. The main thesis underlying this paper is that impediments and blockages in the meaning-making process may play a role in the emergence of depressive symptoms, as they affect the psychological function of work. This function consists of the possibility for workers to build meaningful experiences of transformation of themselves and their material and social reality. When individuals are prevented from developing such experiences, human action becomes disconnected from its sense for the person. As such, depression emerges as a pathology of action and meaning-making capabilities, a state of emptying and abandonment of the power to act against external resistance, enabling people to transform themselves through work. Background: Anxiety and mood disorders are among the mental health diseases that have exponentially increased in prevalence owing to the hectic and stressful lifestyle. In addition to negatively impacting people's physical health, this has resulted in a major psychological, social, and financial burden. A lot of emphasis has been placed on dietary and lifestyle modifications in the ongoing search for medication-free treatments. Investigating the connection between the consumption of specific fruits and vegetables and mental health issues such as depression has produced some intriguing and occasionally encouraging results. The genus Citrus with over 1300 species of plants is enriched with a plethora of polyphenolic compounds on the one hand and multicomponent volatile oil content on the other hand. Purpose: The current work is centered on examining the range of phytoconstituents found in various citrus species—both underutilized and utilized—as promising avenues for future anxiolytic research. The work also details the proposed pharmacological mechanisms of isolated components and clinical trial advancements of selected citrus species. Methodology: Various databases, including PubMed and ScienceDirect, were used to search and collect relevant literature published in the past 10 years (2014–2024). The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) criteria recommended for drafting methodical reviews were followed. Results: Initially, 1791 articles were collected through an electronic database search, irrelevant titles/abstracts (1449) and other types of articles (05) were excluded. Out of 342 assessed reports, 187 duplicate articles were excluded. Finally, list of 67 articles was included in this narrative review. Conclusion: Although research and development, as well as the commercial use of several citrus varieties, have attracted some interest recently, analyzing neglected citrus species closely can help to improve their processing into well-known anxiolytic leads by revealing their untapped potential. Media portrayal of mental disorders has a significant impact on awareness and stigma. Given the high prevalence of depression and anxiety as mental disorders, it is crucial to understand how they are represented. This scoping review aimed to map the existing literature on the portrayal of depression and anxiety in mainstream and social media. A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed and PsychInfo, resulting in the inclusion of 20 records that predominantly examined social media and newspapers. Findings indicate that social media discussions on depression were mostly supportive and non‐stigmatising. Public figures and role models played a significant role in encouraging open communication. Research on newspapers and other media forms yielded mixed results yet leaning towards positive portrayals. Limited studies explored anxiety portrayal. While acknowledging potential limitations in generalisability, this review emphasises the importance of accurately depicting mental health in media, particularly on social media platforms, while highlighting the need for broader investigations into anxiety representation. Although mistreatment in the workplace has been widely acknowledged, the impact of coworker undermining has not been adequately explored in the literature. Using insights from the job demands–resources model, we suggest that coworker undermining is a job demand that is associated with negative affect and somatic complaints. In mitigation of this, we propose two personal resources (i.e. forgiveness and revenge cognitions) as buffers of the positive relationship between coworker undermining and somatic complaints via negative affect. We explore these relationships in a time‐lagged study involving 229 participants who responded to three surveys over a month‐long period. Our findings show that coworker undermining is related to high levels of negative affect in the following week, and that this spills over to somatic complaints. Emotional support from friends is a crucial source of social support for adolescents, significantly influencing their psychological development. However, previous research has primarily focused on how this support correlates with general levels of socioemotional problems among adolescents, neglecting the significance of daily fluctuations in these problems. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between friend emotional support and both the average and dynamic indicators of daily emotional and peer problems in adolescents. These dynamic indicators include within-domain dynamics—such as inertia, which reflects the temporal dependence of experiences, and volatility, which indicates within-person variance—and cross-domain dynamics, such as transactional effects, which measure the strength of concurrent or lagged associations between daily emotional and peer problems. Participants were 315 seventh-grade Chinese adolescents (Mage = 13.05 years, SD = 0.77 years; 48.3% girls). Adolescents reported on their friends' emotional support at baseline and then completed measures of daily emotion and peer problems over a 10-day period. Using dynamic structural equation models, the results revealed that higher levels of friend emotional support were associated with fewer daily socioemotional problems. This was evident both in terms of average levels and dynamic aspects, characterized by lower mean levels of daily emotional and peer problems, reduced inertia and volatility of these problems, and a weaker spillover effect from daily emotional issues to peer problems. Background: Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) are considered third‐line treatments for treatment resistant depression; however, they are underused in clinical practice. Aims: This study aimed to assess the efficacy, tolerability, and acceptability of MAOIs for the treatment of depression in comparison with other antidepressant treatments. Methods: A systematic review and network meta‐analysis of randomised clinical trials was performed to compare the efficacy, tolerability and acceptability between MAOIs and other antidepressant treatments for the treatment of depressive episodes. Results: A total of 83 double‐blinded, randomised controlled trials were included in the analysis, with 7765 participants assigned to an active treatment and 1844 assigned to placebo. Several MAOIs, including isocarboxazid, phenelzine, tranylcypromine and moclobemide, showed significantly higher efficacy compared with placebo. The tolerability and acceptability of MAOIs was comparable to other antidepressants. Limitations: A disproportionate number of studies investigating the most commonly used MAOIs, such as moclobemide and phenelzine, and a lack of specific studies focusing on treatment‐resistant and atypical depression. Conclusions: MAOIs are similar in efficacy to other antidepressants for the treatment of depression. Teachers of students with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) often struggle with simultaneously meeting students' writing and behavioral needs. Building on existing Self-Regulated Strategy Development (SRSD) literature, this study investigated the collateral effects of SRSD with social skills prompts on the writing outcomes and problem behavior of students with EBD. In a multiple probe across participants design study, we taught three upper elementary students with EBD opinion writing using the SRSD instructional framework. Outcome measures included the number of genre elements in participants' written products, the length (i.e., total words written) and quality of written products, and the level of problem behaviors during 20-min observational sessions. Generalization measure involved the use of video prompts to determine the effects of SRSD on students' overall writing outcomes. Post-SRSD data showed clear increases in the number of genre elements and length of written products for all participants. Additional holistic scoring revealed moderate improvements in the overall quality of written products across participants. Results on students' problem behavior reduction were inconclusive. Personality dysfunction operationalized as impairment in self- and interpersonal functioning is a characteristic of personality disorders. The metacognitive model suggests that dysfunctional metacognitive beliefs are a common cause of psychological disorders, but the relevance and importance of metacognitions for personality dysfunction is less explored and was the objective for the current study. In a sample of 1278 individuals, we conducted a multiple hierarchical regression analysis to test the predictive role of metacognitive beliefs for personality dysfunction. We found a unique and independent contribution from negative beliefs about the uncontrollability and danger of worry and lower cognitive confidence to personality dysfunction whilst controlling age, gender, maladaptive personality traits, big-5 personality traits, emotional distress symptoms, and general psychosocial functioning. The results bring further support for the metacognitive model of psychological disorders which may be relevant for formulation and treatment of personality dysfunction and disorder. Patients with bipolar I disorder may experience mood destabilization or treatment-emergent affective switch (TEAS) from one symptom pole to the other spontaneously or following treatment. Optimal treatment should address symptoms from both poles without precipitating destabilization. These were pooled post hoc analyses of data from randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies of cariprazine 3–12 mg/d for bipolar I mania (NCT00488618 , NCT01058096 , NCT01058668) and cariprazine 1.5 mg/d or 3 mg/d for bipolar I depression (NCT01396447 , NCT02670538 , NCT02670551). Changes from baseline in Montgomery-Åsberg Depression Rating Scale (MADRS) total score at week 6 and Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS) total score at week 3 were analyzed in each indication using a mixed-effects model for repeated measures. Percentages of patients with increasing levels of endpoint response and TEAS (bipolar mania = MADRS total score ≥ 19; bipolar depression = YMRS score ≥ 16) were determined. Cariprazine significantly reduced manic and depressive symptoms in patients with bipolar I disorder mood episodes. In patients with a manic episode and up to mild baseline depressive symptoms, cariprazine also significantly reduced depressive symptoms. In patients with a depressive episode and manic symptoms in remission at baseline, numerical reduction (without statistical significance) in YMRS indicated no worsening of mania. In both indications, cariprazine-treated patients had numerically greater response rates (presenting symptom pole) than placebo-treated patients; lower percentages of cariprazine- than placebo-treated patients had TEAS at visits where data were collected. Post hoc analysis. Results suggested that cariprazine had full-spectrum efficacy across symptoms from both poles in patients with bipolar I disorder mood episodes; TEAS risk was low. Bipolar disorder (BD) is often misidentified as unipolar depression (UD) during its early stages, typically until the onset of the first manic episode. This study aimed to explore both shared and unique neurostructural changes in patients who transitioned from UD to BD during follow-up, as compared to those with UD. This study utilized high-resolution structural magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to collect brain data from individuals initially diagnosed with UD. During the average 3-year follow-up, 24 of the UD patients converted to BD (cBD). For comparison, the study included 48 demographically matched UD patients who did not convert and 48 healthy controls. The MRI data underwent preprocessing using FreeSurfer, followed by surface-based morphometry (SBM) analysis to identify cortical thickness (CT), surface area (SA), and cortical volume (CV) among groups. The SBM analysis identified shared neurostructural characteristics between the cBD and UD groups, specifically thinner CT in the right precentral cortex compared to controls. Unique to the cBD group, there was a greater SA in the right inferior parietal cortex compared to the UD group. Furthermore, no significant correlations were observed between cortical morphological measures and cognitive performance and clinical features in the cBD and UD groups. The sample size is relatively small. Our findings suggest that while cBD and UD exhibit some common alterations in cortical macrostructure, numerous distinct differences are also present. Purpose: Minocycline suppresses chemotherapy-induced neuroinflammation in preclinical models, but its effects in cancer survivors are unknown. This study evaluated the longitudinal effects of minocycline on affective behaviors, cognitive functions, and inflammation in women with breast cancer (BC) undergoing chemotherapy. Methods: This is a pilot, double-blind, randomized controlled trial of oral minocycline (100 mg BID) versus placebo for chemotherapy-induced affective disorders in women initiating chemotherapy for stage I–III BC. Participants received minocycline or placebo up to one week before chemotherapy, continuing through cycle 4 (C4). Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) were assessed at baseline, each cycle of chemotherapy (C1–C4), 2–3-week post-chemotherapy (end of chemotherapy), and 6-month post-chemotherapy (6 M) as the primary outcomes. Sub-group analysis of CES-D and STAI based on the severity of symptoms was also performed. Changes in self-reported cognition and serum inflammatory markers were also evaluated. Results: Fifty-seven women enrolled and 55 completed the study. Except for Interleukin-8 (p ≤ 0.03), changes in inflammatory markers, cognitive function, CES-D, and STAI were not significantly different between groups from baseline to any cycle or post-chemotherapy time point (all p > 0.05), adjusting for baseline scores. Increases in serum Interleukin-8 from baseline to C4 and 6 M were ameliorated by minocycline (p < 0.05). The sub-group symptomatic for depression (CES-D > = 16 at baseline) treated with minocycline had a greater reduction in CES-D score compared to placebo from baseline to 6 M (p = 0.01). Conclusion: Despite attenuation of IL-8, minocycline did not alter self-reported affective symptoms or cognition in this cohort of BC survivors undergoing chemotherapy. Background: Mood disorders, particularly depression and anxiety, are associated with zinc dyshomeostasis and aberrant GABAergic signaling. Activation of ZnR/GPR39 by synaptic zinc in the hippocampus triggers phosphorylation of extracellular regulated kinase (ERK1/2), which regulates the K+/Cl− cotransporter (KCC2) and thereby GABAergic inhibitory neurotransmission and seizure activity. Therefore, we studied whether impaired ZnR/GPR39 signaling is linked to anxiety-related behavior in male or female mice. Results: Using the acoustic startle response, elevated plus maze, and open field test, we found increased anxiety-related behavior in ZnR/GPR39 knockout (KO) mice. Despite a well-established sex difference, where females are typically more prone to anxiety, both male and female ZnR/GPR39 KO mice exhibited increased anxiety-related behavior compared to wildtype (WT) mice. Additionally, ZnR/GPR39 KO mice displayed impaired motor coordination in the pole and rotarod tests but did not show reduced muscle strength, as indicated by a grip test. Finally, we found intrinsic alterations in the expression level of KCC2, a major Cl− transporter regulating GABAergic signaling, in the amygdala of naïve ZnR/GPR39 KO mice compared to controls. Conclusions: Our findings indicate that loss of ZnR/GPR39 enhances anxiety-related behavior in both male and female mice. Moreover, ZnR/GPR39 KO mice exhibit impaired motor coordination, which may be associated with increased anxiety. Finally, we demonstrate that loss of ZnR/GPR39 modulates the expression of KCC2 in the amygdala. Background: Non-suicidal self-injury(NSSI)is a widespread occurrence among adolescents, and this behavior can bring serious consequences. In recent years, the prevalence of NSSI continues to rise, which has attracted the attention of many researchers. But currently there is no research exploring the overall research distribution of NSSI in adolescents through quantitative analysis. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the status of development and main research hotspots of NSSI in adolescents via bibliometric analysis. Methods: We searched the relevant studies from the Web of Science Core Collection(WoSCC)from January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2023. Using CiteSpace and VOSviewer visual analysis tools, we analyzed studies from the perspectives of country, region, institution, journal, author, and keywords. Result: A total of 2177 studies related to NSSI in adolescents were included. USA and Harvard University were the leading country and institution in this research field. Penelope Hasking was the most prolific author. Frontiers in Psychiatry and the Journal of Affective Disorders were the most productive journals. The most high-frequency keywords were 'depression', 'mental health', 'emotion regulation' and 'borderline personality disorder'. 'mindfully', 'intervention', 'self-compassion' and 'ecological momentary assessment' were the emerging keywords. Conclusions: Exploring the relevant factors and mechanisms of comorbidities, identifying etiology and risk/protective factors, and finding the impact of NSSI on adolescents are the hot topics. This study aimed to assess the extent of cognitive impairment in children and adolescents with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA). While cognitive deficits are recognized in other systemic rheumatic diseases, exploration within the pediatric JIA population remains limited. The investigation utilized a comprehensive approach to examine neuropsychological test performance. A cohort of 160 participants (79 JIA, 81 healthy controls aged 8–17) underwent evaluations using the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL), Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School Age Children-Present and Lifetime Version (K-SADS-PL), and the computerized neurocognitive test battery Central Nervous System Vital Signs (CNSVS). Children with JIA exhibited statistically significant cognitive deficits across various parameters (p < .05). This was associated with an increased prevalence of lifelong psychiatric illnesses and diminished overall quality of life compared to healthy counterparts (p < .05). Analysis highlighted that specific JIA subtypes, excluding Oligoarthritis, significantly elevated the risk of neurocognitive impairments, emphasizing the impact on various cognitive outcomes (OR range: 3.1–5.1, 95% CI: 1.163–19.980). Additionally, the active disease stage was identified as a specific risk factor, amplifying the likelihood of low executive functions by 4.3 times (OR: 4.363, 95% CI: 1.095–17.378). This study underscores the critical importance of recognizing and addressing neurocognitive impairments in children with JIA. This study investigated the utilization of digital phenotypes and machine learning algorithms to predict impending panic symptoms in patients with mood and anxiety disorders. A cohort of 43 patients was monitored over a two-year period, with data collected from smartphone applications and wearable devices. This research aimed to differentiate between the day before panic (DBP) and stable days without symptoms. With RandomForest, GradientBoost, and XGBoost classifiers, the study analyzed 3,969 data points, including 254 DBP events. The XGBoost model demonstrated performance with a ROC-AUC score of 0.905, while a simplified model using only the top 10 variables maintained an ROC-AUC of 0.903. Key predictors of panic events included evaluated Childhood Trauma Questionnaire scores, increased step counts, and higher anxiety levels. These findings indicate the potential of machine learning algorithms leveraging digital phenotypes to predict panic symptoms, thereby supporting the development of proactive and personalized digital therapies and providing insights into real-life indicators that may exacerbate panic symptoms in this population. Background: Adolescents exhibit a high prevalence of mental health disorders, with more than half of all cases emerging before the age of 14 years. Since the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a marked upsurge in anxiety and depression among adolescents across several nations. Emotional disorders often lead to severe outcomes, including school absenteeism, self-harm, and suicidal tendencies. The suboptimal efficacy of pharmacotherapy, compounded by limited availability and substantial costs associated with individual psychotherapy, underscores the critical need for identifying simple yet efficacious psychotherapeutic interventions suitable for both individual and group settings. Tension and Trauma Release Exercise (TRE) is a mind-body therapeutic approach that efficiently alleviates symptoms of anxiety and depression. This randomized controlled trial (RCT) aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a mother-child intervention model using TRE in enhancing the clinical management of adolescent patients diagnosed with emotional disorders. Methods : This study recruits 140 dyads of adolescents with emotional disorders and their mothers, randomly assigned to intervention or control groups. The intervention arm combines eight weeks of standard pharmacotherapy with an eight-week TRE group therapy, assessing at baseline, post-8-week treatment, and three-month follow-up. Initially, controls receive eight weeks of standard medication with parallel assessments, later transitioning to the same TRE intervention while maintaining continuous evaluation. The study further examines the influence of maternal emotional health on adolescent treatment response and investigates associated neurophysiological and psychological mechanisms. Discussion: This research endeavors to identify a straightforward and potent body-oriented psychological intervention that could improve the clinical outcomes for adolescent patients with emotional disorders. Object: Perimenopause depression disorder (PDD) is a very common problem in clinical practice and is characterized by depression and autonomic nervous symptoms, including hot flashes, palpitation, and night sweating. In addition, the comorbidity of menopause depression has long been an integral component of the estradiol (E2) shortage. Previous studies have suggested that the mechanisms underlying this comorbidity involved overlap of endocrine and cerebellar networks. Emerging evidence has shown that the endocrine–brain–gut–microbiota axis plays a key role in the regulation of affective disorders. Yangyin-ningshen formula (YYNS) is a traditional Chinese decoction tailored by Yijintang for menopausal depression intervention. Thus, we hypothesized that the YYNS may be involved in the menopause depression alleviation through the endocrine–brain–gut–microbiota axis. Methods: To verify this, we constructed a bilateral ovariectomy (OVX) mouse model to simulate menopausal-related depression. Subsequently, behavioral tests including the open field test (OFT) and the forced swimming test (FST) were conducted to examine the depression state post-OVX. With YYNS or E2 intervention, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to determine the serum sex hormones level. 16S rRNA gene sequencing and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) were used to analyze the microbiome of the colon samples collected from mice in the sham surgery group (CSH), the OVX model group (CMD), the OVX with E2 hormone intervention group (CHM), and the OVX with YYNS intervention group (CYYNS). One week after OVX, CMD, CHM, and CYYNS showed depression in OFT, FST. Three weeks post-OVX, CHM and CYYNS showed a notable relief of depression; CMD shaped the OTUs shrinkage; and OTUs were raised in the sham, CHM, and CYYNS group. The CMD group showed that the abundance of Actinobiota decreased but that of Bacteriodia increased. The relative abundance of the genus varied in each group. Moreover, functional correlation of changes in sex hormone and gut microbes between different groups showed that the PRL level was negatively correlated with Odoribacter. T level was positively correlated with Lachnospiraceae NK4A136 group and Odoribacter abundance (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Our results not only offer novel insights into the sex hormones and depression with OVX mice but also build an important basis for E2 or YYNS therapeutic efficacy on PDD, which provide for future research on this etiology through the endocrine–brain–gut–microbiota network. Major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD) are two of the most prevalent mood disorders that seriously jeopardize both physical and mental health. The current diagnosis of MDD and BD relies primarily on clinical symptoms. However, correctly differentiating between MDD and BD during depressive episode states remains a substantial clinical challenge. The human gut hosts a large and diverse microbiota, which plays a pivotal role in various physiological processes. Emerging evidence suggests that the gut microbiota (GM) exerts beneficial effects on mental health disorders, including MDD, BD, and schizophrenia, through the microbe-gut-brain axis (MGBA). In recent years, the relationship between GM and mood disorders has garnered considerable attention, leading to intensive research in this area. The MGBA is a bidirectional communication system between the gut and the brain. Growing evidence indicates that the brain can influence the GM, which in turn may modulate the brain through this axis. This review aims to explore the changes in the GM of patients with MDD and BD and evaluate the effects of different treatments on their GM, including medication, probiotic, prebiotic and synbiotic interventions, and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT). Background: Reproductive mood disorders indicate that within-person variation in depressive symptoms across the menstrual cycle can be related to ovarian hormone changes. Until now, such cycle-related symptom changes have been measured once daily, even though depression research indicates systematic diurnal changes in symptoms. Further, previous research often focused on aggregated depression scores. This study examined whether three daily assessments of depressive symptoms follow similar trajectories across the menstrual cycle and investigated within-person cyclical fluctuation of all individual symptoms and the aggregated score. Methods: 77 naturally-cycling participants (35 with and 42 without depressive disorder) provided three daily ratings of depressive symptoms across one menstrual cycle to evaluate individual and summarized symptoms. Results: Reliability estimates (w) of the three diurnal measurements ranged from 0.56 to 0.78. Cyclicity showed statistically significant interindividual differences for all symptoms, and individual symptoms differed significantly from each other in their magnitude of cyclicity. Limitations: Only one menstrual cycle was assessed to reduce participant burden. Further, ovulation testing dates were based on self-reported cycle lengths, and only LH (luteinizing hormone) peaks were tested without subsequent progesterone rises. Conclusions: The results highlight the need for a symptom-specific approach to assess individual variance in cyclicity of depressive symptoms. Reliability for one daily assessment can be improved by using the afternoon value, a sum score for depressiveness, or multiple items per symptom. Furthermore, this study emphasizes, that depressive symptoms can systematically change across the menstrual cycle, and it is, therefore, important to include it in depression research. Exploring female-specific risk factors of depression will enable the development of person-tailored treatments. Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is an affective disorder that can lead to persistent sadness and a decline in the quality of life, increasing the risk of suicide. Utilizing multimodal data such as electroencephalograms and patient interview audios can facilitate the timely detection of MDD. However, existing depression detection methods either consider only a single modality or do not fully account for the differences and similarities between modalities in multimodal approaches, potentially overlooking the latent information inherent in various modal data. To address these challenges, we propose EMO-GCN, a multimodal depression detection method based on an adaptive multi-graph neural network. By employing graph-based methods to model data from various modalities and extracting features from them, the potential correlations between modalities are uncovered. The model's performance on the MODMA dataset is outstanding, achieving an accuracy (ACC) of 96.30%. Ablation studies further confirm the effectiveness of the model's individual components.The experimental results of EMO-GCN demonstrate the application prospects of graph-based multimodal analysis in the field of mental health, offering new perspectives for future research. Dysregulation in the stress-response system as a result of genetical mutation can provoke the manifestation of affective disorders under stress conditions. Mutations in the human DISC1 gene is one of the main risk factors of affective disorders. It was known that DISC1 regulates a large number of proteins including BMAL1, which is involved in the regulation of glucocorticoid synthesis in the adrenal glands and the sensitivity of glucocorticoid receptor target genes. Male mice with a point mutation Q31L in the Disc1 gene were exposed to chronic unpredictable stress (CUS), after which the behavioral and physiological stress response assessed. To assess whether there were any changes in BMAL1 in key brain regions involved in the stress response, immunohistochemistry was applied. It was shown that the Q31L mice had an aberrant behavioral response, especially to the 2 weeks of CUS, which was expressed in unchanged motor activity, increased time of social interaction, and alterations in anxiety and fear-related behavior. Q31L males did not show an increase in blood corticosterone levels after CUS and a decrease in body weight. Immunohistochemical analysis in intact Q31L mice revealed a decrease in BMAL1 immunofluorescence in the CA1 hippocampal area and lateral habenula. Thus, the Q31L mutation of the Disc1 gene disrupts behavioral and physiological stress response and the BMAL1 dysregulation may underlie it, so this protein can act as a molecular target for the treatment of affective disorders. Background: Dysfunctions of the hypothalamic‐pituitary‐adrenal (HPA) axis can trigger multiple sclerosis (MS) symptoms. Mood disorders comorbid with MS are implicated in the HPA axis activation in most people with MS (pwMS). This study purposed to examine salivary cortisol (SC) levels and their association with mood disorders in pwMS. Methods: Forty‐three men as pwMS and sixteen men as healthy controls (HC) were included in this study. pwMS and HC completed the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), 36‐Item Short Form Survey (SF‐36), Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale, and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale questionnaires. SC levels were also measured in pwMS and HC. A linear regression model was used to analyze the relationship between the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) and mood disorders and SC levels. Pearson's or Spearman's tests examined the correlation between SC levels and mood disorders. Results: The SC level, anxiety, depression, fatigue, and stress were significantly higher in pwMS than in HC (p < 0.05). pwMS also showed significant correlations between SC levels and role physical (r = 0.3, p < 0.05) and emotional (r = 0.34, p < 0.05) in SF‐36. Among SF‐36 domains, only general health (β = −0.72, p < 0.05) and physical functioning (β = −1.61, p < 0.05) were negatively associated with disease duration. No correlation was found between SC levels and anxiety, depression, and fatigue (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The pwMS showed mild to moderate depression, anxiety, and fatigue. Only general health and physical functioning as aspects of quality of life were related to disease duration, while SC levels, mood disorders, and other quality‐of‐life domains were not associated with clinical characteristics. Major depressive disorder (MDD) has been associated with deficits in working memory as well as underlying gamma oscillation power. Consistent with this, overall reductions in cortical excitation have also been described with MDD. In previous work, we have demonstrated that the monoamine reuptake inhibitor venlafaxine increases gamma oscillation power in ex vivo hippocampal slices and that this is associated with concomitant increases in pyramidal arbour and reduced levels of plasticity‐restricting perineuronal nets (PNNs). In the present study, we have examined the effects of chronic treatment with pramipexole (PPX), a D3 dopamine receptor agonist, for its effects on gamma oscillation power as measured by in vivo electroencephalography (EEG) recordings in female BALB/c and C57Bl6 mice. We observe a modest but significant increase in 20–50 Hz gamma power with PPX in both strains. Additionally, biochemical analysis of prefrontal cortex lysates from PPX‐treated BALB/c mice shows a number of changes that could contribute to, or follow from, increased pyramidal excitability and/or gamma power. PPX‐associated changes include reduced levels of specific PNN components as well as tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteases‐1 (TIMP‐1), which inhibits long‐term potentiation of synaptic transmission. Consistent with its effects on gamma power, PNN proteins and TIMP‐1, chronic PPX treatment also improves working memory and reduces anhedonia. There is limited evaluation of approaches to identify patients with new onset bipolar affective disorder (BPAD) when using administrative datasets. Using the Massachusetts All-Payer Claims Database (APCD), we identified individuals with a 2016 diagnosis of bipolar disorder with mania and examined patterns of psychiatric and medical care over the preceding 48 months. Among 4806 individuals aged 15–35 years with a 2016 BPAD with mania diagnosis, 3066 had 48 months of historical APCD data, and of those, 75 % involved information from ≥2 payors. After excluding individuals with historical BPAD or mania diagnoses, there were 583 individuals whose 2016 BPAD with mania diagnosis appeared to be new (i.e., 34 new diagnoses per 100,000 individuals aged 15–35 years). Most individuals received medical care, e.g., 98 % had outpatient visits, 76 % had Emergency Department (ED) visits, and 50 % had mental health-related ED visits during the 48 months prior to their first mania diagnosis. One-third (37.2 %) had a depressive episode before their initial BPAD with mania diagnosis. Study was conducted in one state among insured individuals. We used administrative data, which permits evaluation of large populations but lacks rigorous, well-validated claims-based definitions for BPAD. There could be diagnostic uncertainty during illness course, and clinicians may differ in their diagnostic thresholds. In an online, survey-based experiment, musculoskeletal surgeon members of the science of variation group (n = 243) and a group of consult-liaison psychiatrists (n = 18) read 5 hypothetical scenarios of patients recovering from musculoskeletal trauma, each containing 5 randomized patient variables, and indicated their recommendation for psychiatry consultation or not. Factors associated with recommendation for psychiatry consultation included younger age, history of a psychiatric disorder, and pre-injury use of antipsychotic medications, and scenarios involving psychosis, suicidality, hallucinations in the setting of substance withdrawal, and questionable capacity for informed consent, but not with sadness alone. Musculoskeletal surgeons can collaborate with psychiatrists to develop comprehensive care for inpatients with musculoskeletal trauma starting with relatively pressing mental health needs and perhaps expanding into treatment of sadness or worry that can manifest as greater symptom intensity and a delayed recovery trajectory. Dynamic gain control of aversive signals enables adaptive behavioral responses. Although the role of amygdalar circuits in aversive processing is well established, the neural pathway for amplifying aversion remains elusive. Here, we show that the brainstem circuit linking the interpeduncular nucleus (IPN) with the nucleus incertus (NI) amplifies aversion and promotes avoidant behaviors. IPN GABA neurons are activated by aversive stimuli and their predicting cues, with their response intensity closely tracking aversive values. Activating these neurons does not trigger aversive behavior on its own but rather amplifies responses to aversive stimuli, whereas their ablation or inhibition suppresses such responses. Detailed circuit dissection revealed anatomically distinct subgroups within the IPN GABA neuron population, highlighting the NI-projecting subgroup as the modulator of aversiveness related to fear and opioid withdrawal. Background: Fibromyalgia (FM) is characterized by widespread chronic pain. Although pain is the main symptom, approximately 90% of patients have depression. This study aimed to analyze the effects of Resistance Training (RT) with low and high intensity on depression in patients with FM. Methods: Thirty-eight women with FM and 31 healthy women were allocated to the low-intensity, high-intensity, preferred-intensity, and control groups. The patients underwent 8 weeks of supervised RT, with two sessions per week of approximately 1 h. The low-intensity resistance training group (LIRT) performed two sets of 12 maximum repetitions. The high-intensity resistance training group (HIRT) performed four sets with six maximum repetitions, and the preferred intensity group (PI) performed three sets, with eight to 12 repetitions, according to the patient's tolerance. The healthy control group did not perform any type of exercise. Depression was assessed using the Beck depression inventory before the start of the intervention, after 4 and 8 weeks. Results: FM patients have higher levels of depression than women without the disease. After 4 weeks, there was a difference in depressive symptoms between the HIRT and LIRT (p = 0.048), and the PI and LIRT (p = 0.048). Conclusion: Prescribing RT with low or high intensity did not significantly reduce depression in patients with FM after 8 weeks, however, analyses between groups after 4 weeks indicated that low-intensity training is more effective than high-intensity training. The prescription of RT exercise to FM could vary among low, high, and preferred intensity, following the patient's tolerance for pain. Mood disorders, including major depressive disorder and bipolar disorder, have a profound impact on more than 300 million people worldwide. It has been demonstrated mood disorders were closely associated with deviations in biogenic amine metabolites, which are involved in numerous critical physiological processes. The peripheral and central alteration of biogenic amine metabolites in patients may be one of the potential pathogeneses of mood disorders. This review provides a concise overview of the latest research on biogenic amine metabolites in mood disorders, such as histamine, kynurenine, and creatine. Further studies need larger sample sizes and multi-center collaboration. Investigating the changes of biogenic amine metabolites in mood disorders can provide biological foundation for diagnosis, offer guidance for more potent treatments, and aid in elucidating the biological mechanisms underlying mood disorders. Introduction: Current evidence suggests that early maladaptive schemas are affected in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Most of the studies on the subject have been conducted with adults, but the number of studies conducted with adolescents with ADHD is quite limited. The aim of this study was to evaluate early maladaptive schemas in adolescents diagnosed with ADHD. Methods: The study included 66 patients diagnosed with ADHD and 70 healthy adolescents who were similar to the case group in terms of age and gender. Clinical evaluation of the case and control groups were performed with "The Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia for School-Age Children-Present and Lifetime Version, DSM-5 November 2016-Turkish Adaptation (K-SADS-PL-DSM-5-T)". "Conners-Wells Adolescent Self-Report Scale - Revised Short Form (CASS-RS)" and "Set of Early Maladaptive Schema Questionnaires for Children and Adolescents between the ages of 10-16" were administered to all participants. Results: It was determined that the schema scores of "dependence/incompetence", "vulnerability to harm or illness", "entitlement/grandiosity", "insufficient self-control", "subjugation" were significantly higher in the ADHD group than in the control group. A negative, significant relationship was found between age and "enmeshment/undeveloped self", "entitlement/grandiosity" and "insufficient self-control" schema scores. There was no significant difference between schema scores in terms of gender in the ADHD group. Additionally, no significant relationship was found between the education level of the parents, family income levels and schema scores. A significant positive relationship was found between the CASS-RS scores and all schema scores. As a result of the regression analysis, it was determined that CASS-RS scores positively predicted all schema scores, while the age variable negatively predicted only the schema scores of "enmeshment/undeveloped self". Discussion: Results of this study showed that there were significant differences in adolescents in the ADHD group compared to the control group in terms of early maladaptive schemas, and that ADHD symptom levels was associated with early maladaptive schemas. Background: The mental health of patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) warrants greater attention and understanding, especially concerning its risk factors. Method: Patients from our hospital's hepatology clinic were consecutively enrolled and completed a questionnaire assessing anxiety, depression, and sleep quality using the GAD-7, PHQ-9, and PSQI scales, respectively. Reliability and validity were evaluated with Cronbach's α and Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO). Continuous and categorical variables were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U and Chi-square tests. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used to identify risk factors, while restricted cubic spline (RCS) were used to explored non-linear associations. Subgroup analyses were stratified by sex, age, and education. Result: A total of 1030 questionnaires were collected, and after quality control, 1003 were included. 56.2% (564/1003), 53.2% (534/1003), and 67.4% (676/1003) individuals had anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders. Differences in age, gender, and education level were observed (P <0.05). Subgroup analysis showed similar demographic trends. Univariate and multivariate regression analysis found age negatively correlated with anxiety (OR=0.98, 95%CI=0.97-0.99, P =0.02) and depression (OR=0.98, 95%CI=0.96-0.99, P <0.001), but positively correlated with sleep disorders (OR=1.03, 95%CI= 1.01-1.05, P < 0.001); males are less prone to anxiety (OR=0.68, 95%CI=0.52-0.88, P =0.004) and sleep disorders (OR=0.72, 95%CI: 0.55-0.94, P =0.02); university degree is more susceptible to depression (OR=1.36, 95%CI=1.04-1.77, P =0.02) and anxiety (OR=1.45, 95%CI=1.11-1.89, P =0.007). RCS analysis suggested a linear relationship between the age and affective disorders among different population. Background: Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) behaviors among adolescents with mood disorders represent a significant global public health concern. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and identify key predictors of NSSI behaviors in Chinese adolescents diagnosed with depressive or bipolar disorders, addressing a critical gap in the literature. Method: Data from 2343 participants in the Chinese Adolescent Depression Cohort (CADC) were analyzed. The study employed a comprehensive approach, utilizing medical records, clinical assessments, and validated psychometric instruments. Statistical analyses included chi-square tests, logistic regression, and ROC curve analyses, culminating in the development of a predictive nomogram. Results: The prevalence of NSSI behaviors was strikingly high at 73.32%. Significant predictors included female gender (AOR = 2.14, 95% CI [1.70, 2.68]), presence of hallucinations (AOR = 1.52, 95% CI [1.18, 1.97]), borderline personality features (AOR = 1.03, 95% CI [1.01, 1.08]), and childhood trauma (AOR = 1.02, 95% CI [1.01, 1.03]). The study's key contribution is a predictive nomogram with an AUC of 0.74, demonstrating good efficacy in predicting NSSI behaviors. Conclusion: This research reveals an alarmingly high prevalence of NSSI behaviors in Chinese adolescents with mood disorders and identifies critical predictors spanning demographic, clinical, and psychometric domains. The developed nomogram offers a novel approach for risk assessment, highlighting the importance of comprehensive evaluations in adolescent mental healthcare. Here, we investigated the association of different emotion regulation (ER) indices with symptom severity across a large transdiagnostic sample of patients with emotional disorders (cross-sectional approach) and the predictive validity these ER indices have for the outcome of routine care CBT (longitudinal approach). We assessed the trait-like use of adaptive (reappraisal) and maladaptive (suppression, externalizing behaviors) ER strategies via questionnaire as well as the situational ability to regulate emotions with an experimental ER paradigm. Psychopathology was assessed dimensionally using the depression, anxiety, and stress scale. Cross-sectionally symptom severity was predicted by less trait-like use of adaptive and more trait-like use of maladaptive ER strategies, but no associations were found for situational ER ability. This association was more pronounced for depression and stress symptoms rather than anxiety symptoms. In a striking dissociation, the longitudinal analyses revealed the reverse picture: Better situational ER ability, but not trait-like use of ER strategies was associated with less symptom severity after the CBT treatment. Our data argues in favor of a distinction between trait-like and situational ER abilities in individuals with emotional disorders, highlighting challenges in applying adaptive ER strategies in daily life despite demonstrating intact ER skills in experimental settings. Our findings also inform transdiagnostic models of psychopathology and suggest that distress/depression rather than anxiety symptomatology to be driving forces for the occurrence of ER deficits across the depression/anxiety disorders spectrum. Depression is one of the most common affective disorders in people's life. Women are susceptibility to depression during puberty, peripartum and menopause transition, when they are suffering from sex hormone fluctuation. A lot of studies have demonstrated the neuroprotective effect of estrogen on depression in women, however, the effect of FSH on depression is unclear. In this study, we investigated the role of FSH on depression in mice. Our study demonstrated that FSH induced depression-like behaviors in mice in a dose-dependent manner. This induction was associated with elevated levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF- α in both serum and hippocampal tissues. Additionally, FSH treatment resulted in impaired synaptic plasticity and a reduction in the expression of key synaptic proteins. It is noteworthy that the depression-like behaviors, inflammatory cytokines expression and synaptic plasticity impairment induced by FSH could be alleviated by knocking down the expression of FSH receptor (FSHR) in the hippocampus of the mice. Therefore, our findings reveal that FSH may play an important role in the pathogenesis of depression and targeting FSH may be a potential therapeutic strategy for depression during hormone fluctuation in women. Evidence-based early intervention programs for children at risk of developing psychological problems after exposure to armed conflict have been recommended as a major component in the treatment of psychosocial problems. This study examines the efficacy of a pilot school-based mindfulness intervention (SMI) and its impact on the social, emotional, and behavioral outcomes of war-affected refugee preschool children living in a refugee camp in Türkiye. A single-blind randomized controlled trial with pre-test and post-test design was employed. A total of 76 participants (born in 2013) were randomized by the school into the 6-week intervention (n = 38) or the control group (n = 38). Measures included the State Self-Esteem Scale, Early Childhood Social Skill Measure, and the Child and Youth Resilience Measure-Revised. GLM repeated-measures ANOVA (p < 0,05) analysis showed positive effects of SMI on social skills (F = 126.06, p < 0.05, η2 = 0.63), self-esteem (F = 72.08, p < 0.05, η2 = 0.49) and resilience (F = 4.33, p < 0.05, η2 = 0.05) over time for the intervention group as compared to controls. Significant reductions in social and emotional problems were found for children who reported high levels of introversion in the pre-test. Pilot study results support SMI as a promising intervention for psychosocial problems that can reduce stress and anxiety symptoms among children exposed to armed conflict and forced migration. Problem: The association of pediatric‐onset multiple sclerosis (POMS) and psychosis remains rare and unclear in the literature. We aim to elucidate the association between POMS and psychosis across case reports. Methods: We report a case of schizophrenia (SCZ) revealing POMS. We conducted a systematic review of case reports adhered to PRISMA 2020. We searched PubMed, Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Cochrane for case reports describing psychoses in POMS cases. Findings: We presented a 21‐year‐old male who developed psychotic symptoms at 16 and was diagnosed with SCZ at 18. Regarding the treatment‐resistant SCZ, neurological assessment led to POMS. The patient had a favorable outcome after POMS management. Moreover, our systematic review of nine cases revealed that most psychoses began before or concomitant to the POMS diagnosis, highlighting a delay in identifying POMS. SCZ and BP were the most common types of psychosis observed. We observed a predominance of males with a median age at psychosis onset was 15 years (12.5–16.5 years). Treatment‐resistant SCZ was noted in one study along aside with our case. All cases had a good evolution after POMS management. Conclusion: Our study suggested a critical link between POMS and psychosis emphasizing the need for thorough evaluation, early diagnosis, and prompt management. Antipsychotic prescribing trends vary internationally, albeit off-label use remains high (i.e., target symptoms). We aim to describe antipsychotic use, target conditions, target symptoms and dosing regimens in children and adolescents in Ireland. We used a sampled cohort from a national audit of children and adolescents attending mental health services with predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria from Jul-2021 to Dec-2021 who were prescribed at least one psychotropic medication and up to and including 17-years of age (n = 3528). Each service provided anonymised data. We described the frequency of antipsychotic medication, medication type, target condition, target symptom and medication doses. We used multivariable logistic regression, adjusted with available co-variates to assess the association of being prescribed an antipsychotic medication. Twelve percentage (n = 437) were prescribed an antipsychotic and 16–17-years (n = 211, 48.3%) was the most common age category. The commonest reason for prescribing an antipsychotic was target symptoms (i.e., off-label use) (n = 329; 75.%) and of these symptoms, agitation (n = 77/329; 25%) and irritability (56/239; 25%) were the most common. Quetiapine (n = 127; 29%) was the most common antipsychotic, followed by risperidone (n = 125; 28.6%), aripiprazole (n = 107; 24.5%), and olanzapine (n = 66; 15.1%). In adjusted analysis, having a psychotic disorder ((adjusted-odds-ratio) aOR: 39.63, CI 95%, 13.40–117.22), bipolar disorder (aOR: 16.96, CI 95%, 3.60–80.00), autism spectrum disorder (aOR: 3.24, CI 95%, 2.45–4.28) or aggression symptoms (aOR: 16.75, CI 95%, 7.22–38.89) was associated with prescribing an antipsychotic medication. This is the first study in children and adolescents that describes the target conditions and target symptoms for antipsychotic use in Ireland. Objective • This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture treatment in improving emotional disorders (such as anxiety and depression), pain intensity, headache frequency, and quality of life in patients with migraines. A particular focus is placed on acupuncture's ability to alleviate migraine pain (assessed through VAS scores), reduce the frequency of headache attacks, and improve specific emotional disorders. Methods • This study searched PubMed, Embase, and The Cochrane Library databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of acupuncture treatment for migraine patients published from January 2000 to June 2023. The inclusion criteria included migraine patients aged between 18-65 years who experienced at least 4 headache attacks per month. Exclusion criteria were patients with severe cardiovascular diseases or known allergic reactions to acupuncture. Statistical analysis was performed using RevMan 5.3 software. Results • A total of 15 studies involving 2121 migraine patients were included. Compared to the control group, acupuncture combined with medication showed no significant difference in improving the latest SAS score (P = .32) and the latest SDS score (P = .63). However, acupuncture was more effective in improving patients' VAS score (P < .03), SF-36 score (P = .004), number of headache days (P = .02), headache score (P < .001), and MSQ score (P < .001). Conclusion • Acupuncture and moxibustion in improving the SAS and SDS scores of migraine patients were similar to Western medication and sham acupuncture, but they were more effective in reducing VAS score, MSQ score, headache days, and headache score than sham acupuncture and Western medication treatments. However, due to the limited number of studies included in this research, more high-quality randomized controlled trials are still needed to further strengthen the evidence base in evidence-based medicine. Background and objective: Cognitive impairment and dementia as well as affective disorders are common and debilitating syndromes that develop in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD). The authors summarized recommendations for the 2023 updated German guidelines on "Parkinson's disease" from the German Neurological Society (DGN), focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of these disorders. Methods: The recommendations were based on literature reviews, other relevant guidelines, and expert opinions. Results: Measurements to assess cognitive and affective states were reviewed for psychometric properties, use in routine clinical practice, and availability in German. To improve mild cognitive impairment, cognitive training and physical aerobic training are recommended. To treat Parkinson's disease (PD)-related dementia, cognitive stimulation (as a non-pharmacological intervention) and acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (AChEIs, i.e., rivastigmine) are recommended. Cognitive behavioral therapy is recommended to treat depression, anxiety, and fear of progression. Physical interventions are recommended to treat depression, fatigue, and apathy. Optimized dopaminergic treatment is the first-line pharmacological strategy recommended to manage depression, apathy, anhedonia, fatigue, and mood swings. Major depression can be additionally treated using venlafaxine or desipramine, while moderate depression can be treated pharmacologically according to its clinical phenotype (psychomotor retardation or agitation) and comorbidities (e.g., sleep disturbances, pain). Venlafaxine and nortriptyline can be used to treat anhedonia, while citalopram can be used for anxiety. Conclusions: In addition to the updated pharmacological treatment options, new insights into recommendations for standardized diagnostics and non-pharmacological interventions were provided for the German health care system. Neuroinflammation that is caused by microglia, the main immune cells of the brain, contributes to neurodegenerative diseases. Psychedelics, including psilocybin and lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), possess certain anti-inflammatory properties and, therefore, should be considered as drug candidates for treating neuroinflammatory pathologies. When ingested, psilocybin is rapidly dephosphorylated to yield psilocin, which crosses the blood–brain barrier and exerts psychotropic activity by interacting with the 5-hydroxytryptamine 2A receptors (5-HT2ARs) on neurons. Since microglia express all three 5-HT2R isoforms, we hypothesized that, by interacting with these receptors, psilocin beneficially modulates select neuroimmune functions of microglia. We used microglia-like cell lines to demonstrate that psilocin, at non-toxic concentrations, did not affect the secretion of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) by immune-stimulated microglial cells, but significantly inhibited their phagocytic activity, the release of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and nitric oxide (NO) production. The inhibitory activity of psilocin on the latter two functions was similar to that of two selective 5-HT2R agonists, namely, 25I-NBOH and Ro60-0175. The role of this subfamily of receptors was further demonstrated by the application of 5-HT2R antagonists cyproheptadine and risperidone. Psilocin should be considered a novel drug candidate that might be effective in treating neuroimmune disorders, such as neurodegenerative diseases, where reactive microglia are significant contributors.
