Tooth autotransplantation is the technique of transplanting embedded, impacted or erupted teeth from one site into another in the same individual. It is relatively common for the anterior segment of the mouth to be affected by traumatic tooth injuries, impacted and/or congenitally missing permanent teeth. Autotransplantation of teeth into the anterior dental arch can provide unrivalled biological solutions when such issues arise in this critical aesthetic zone, particularly for adolescent patients. The combination of meticulous pre‐surgical assessment, synergistic interdisciplinary collaboration and carefully performed anterior tooth autotransplantation has been demonstrated to achieve impressive outcomes, with respect to both transplant survival and clinical success. © 2023 Australian Dental Association. Aim: In the literature, many studies and articles are investigating new devices and approaches to achieve rapid palate expansion through the opening of the palatal suture, and evaluating the skeletal, dental, and soft tissue effects. The purpose of this review was to assess how palatal expansion is performed in adolescent patients with permanent dentition. Furthermore, it was reported as an example of successful orthodontic treatment of an 11-year-old female patient affected by maxillary skeletal transverse deficiency, in permanent dentition. Methods: A search of the literature was conducted on PubMed, Cochrane, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science databases. Inclusion criteria were the year of publication between 2017 and 2022, patients aged 10 to 16 years in permanent dentition, with transversal discrepancy, treated with tooth-borne, bone-borne, hybrid palatal expanders. Results: A total of 619 articles were identified by the electronic search, and finally, a total of 16 papers were included in the qualitative analysis. Conclusions: From this study, it was assessed that MARPE is more predictable, and it determines a more significant expansion of the suture than the Hyrax expander, with fewer side effects. Previous cross-sectional studies have reported that adolescent patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) showed global gray matter volume (GMV) reductions at the acute phase which were restored at the weight-recovered phase, compared with healthy controls (HC). However, few studies have investigated white matter volume (WMV) or cortical thickness in the context of AN, and results have been inconsistent. Voxel-based morphometry analyses for GM and WM, and cortical thickness analyses for GM were conducted in 31 adolescent patients with AN (vs. 18 HC) in the acute phase, and 16 patients with AN (vs. 13 HC) in the follow-up weight-recovered phase, over an approximately 1-year follow-up interval. At the acute phase, the AN patients showed significant reductions of GMVs and cortical thickness in widespread brain regions, compared with HC. Significant WMV reductions were identified in the bilateral superior longitudinal fascicle, superior thalamic radiation, corona radiata, and fornix, pons, and medulla in the patients. At the weight-recovered phase, the AN patients showed a significant GMV reduction in the left hippocampus, and a WMV reduction in the pons, compared with the HC. There was no difference in cortical thickness between two groups at the weight-recovered phase. In conclusion, the widespread volumetric reductions in GM and WM, and reduced cortical thickness observed in AN patients in the acute phase were not evident in the follow-up weight-recovered phase. The volume reductions observed in the hippocampus and pons in the weight-recovered phase could potentially reflect delayed neurogenesis or recovery from starvation in the AN patients. Abstract Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) is a systemic hyperinflammation disease which can cause severe respiratory symptoms and extrapulmonary manifestations. Hypercoagulable state in COVID‐19 adolescent patient is a rare case. We present the case of a 16‐year‐old Indonesian boy with mild COVID‐19 symptoms. Initially, the patient was treated with azithromycin, N‐acetyl cysteine, etc. After several days of the treatment, there was clinical improvement. However, on day 15, the patient experienced hypercoagulation and stroke‐like symptoms. The patient was then subjected to additional drugs, including low‐molecular weight heparin (LMWH), and peripheral neuropathy vitamin therapy. On day 20, the clinical symptoms reduced. This case demonstrates the need for further study of the association between COVID‐19 and stroke in young population and the use of anticoagulants to prevent thrombotic events.

A congenitally missing lateral incisor tooth is commonly associated with both short and long-term clinical dilemmas, particularly for a growing patient. A unilaterally missing maxillary lateral incisor tooth creates a significant dental asymmetry in the critical aesthetic zone of the smile and potentially increases the difficulty of any subsequent orthodontic and restorative treatment. Carefully planned interdisciplinary management is required to address the challenges of anterior dental asymmetry, unilateral orthodontic space closure and to alleviate the concerns that accompany restorative implant placement in the anterior maxilla. The use of skeletal temporary anchorage devices has increased the predictability of orthodontic space closure, particularly for missing maxillary lateral incisor cases which were previously considered to be unsuitable., (© 2024 The Author(s). Abstract Background Hypersensitivity is a rare adverse drug reaction (ADR) associated with anti-epileptic medications. Phenytoin is one of the commonly used drugs for treatment of epilepsy that encounters a hypersensitivity reaction. This reaction can be ranged from mild cutaneous rash to anticonvulsant hypersensitivity syndrome (AHS) or drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) that includes fever, rash, eosinophilia and involvement of multiple internal organs. Case presentation A 15 year old middle eastern female patient from Gaza strip with free past medical and allergic history. She presented to An-Najah National University Hospital (NNUH) in Nablus with intermittent high grade fever, jaundice, rash and skin peeling. On examination, she had axillary and inguinal lymphadenopathy, moderate splenomegaly and diffuse maculopapular rash. The patient was on phenytoin which started 1 month prior to her presentation as a seizure prophylaxis due to previous head injury. Eventually, the patient was diagnosed with AHS/DRESS. Conclusions AHS is a diagnosis of exclusion and it is significantly underreported that requires a high index of suspicion. We liked to share this case and shed the light in more details on AHS/DRESS. Our goal was to help making AHS more reported in the literature in adolescent patients, as well as to make physicians more alert of this condition’s seriousness when they prescribe antiepileptic medications in particular. In this report, we included the first case of AHS which was reported in an adolescent patient in Palestine. Moreover, we reviewed the available literature for a better understanding of the pathophysiology and management of AHS. We still believe that the full understanding of the pathogenesis of AHS is lacking, and also we are lacking a clinical tool or scoring system to determine the severity of AHS/DRESS.

A 14-year-old patient with a previously known diagnosis of hypobetalipoproteinemia applied to our emergency department with the complaint of chest pain. Upon detection of acute anterior myoacrd infarction in the electrocardiogram of the patient, the patient was taken to the catheter laboratory for primary revascularization and successful revascularization was performed. In this rare case for adult cardiologists, there is not enough data in the literature on revascularization strategy, catheter selection, stent size and selection, dual antiaggregant treatment duration, and statin use and etc. We believe that this rare case will contribute to the literature with this case report. Objectives: By adolescent patients we can often meet with traumatic tooth loss and anodontia. Dental care of adolescent patients without own teeth, is not easy. Nowadays we use for reconstruction of teeth especially dental implants. Anthropological age determination for implant insertion is important and prosthodontic methods can be often applied only after multidisciplinary therapy. The successful rehabilitation of the patient with dental implants depends on correct indication, optimal implant insertion, functional and psychosocial adaptation. Quality of life is significantly influenced by satisfaction or dissatisfaction with dental treatment.The aims of this study are twofold. Firstly, to evaluate the long term treatment of adolescent/young adult patients after multidisciplinary therapy, including implants insertion and CAD CAM prosthetic reconstruction. Secondly, to assess changes in quality of life before and after insertion of the dental implant. Material and methods: A prospective study of 73 implants (Osseo Speed™ ASTRA TECH Implant System™, Ltd, UK) was prepared. The patients at implants surgery ranged from 16 to 23 years of age (13 men and 20 women; average age 20.4 years). The patients were followed up for a 6-year period. The aesthetic appearance was checked mainly from the point of view of vertical position of the framework, loss of bone marginal support, patient satisfaction, and quality of life after patient rehabilitation. Also, the effect of microthread on the maintenance of marginal bone level was evaluated. All patients involved in the study completed an anonymous questionnaire investigating the quality of life, which was focused on their oral health and was created on the basis of a questionnaire Geriatric Oral Health Assessment Index. Individual scores of all questions of the questionnaire recorded before and after implantation were compared for each question. The significance of these differences was assessed using Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. Results and conclusions: Successful long-term results depend mainly on stable osseointegration, the same or increasing bone height in the cervical cap. The implants with a diameter of 3-4.5 mm, which are surrounded 2-3 mm bone showed statistically significant bone level increase. The emphasis in young patients should be placed on completion of the development of the facial skeleton and the superstructure on individual designs using CAD CAM techniques. Our study showed that function, speech, esthetics, self-image was directly connected with multidisciplinary therapy including implant insertion. Quality of life is markedly affected by the amount of satisfaction or dissatisfaction with their dental therapy. Taste sensation of course had no influence on implants presence. Implants presence of course had no influence on taste sensation.

A fifteen-year-old boy who had complaints of left sided pelvic pain with known ipsilateral left renal agenesia was referred to pediatric radiology department. Incidentally, his sonography examination revealed a dilated tubular structure located in the retro-vesicular region from cephalic to prostate. Contrast enhanced pelvic MRI showed a huge seminal vesicle cyst which is over 6 cm without a mass effect near the aspect border of the prostate and bladder. The patient was diagnosed with Zinner syndrome. The patient doesn’t have new complaint with no definite increase in the diameter of the cyst. In this case presentation we are discussing the Zinner syndrome’s imaging findings from a pediatric radiologist approach with a brief review of the literature.
