The COVID-19 crisis has introduced unique tradeoffs between health and economic risk, leading to a “life vs. livelihoods conundrum.” This study contributes to research on adversity and entrepreneurship by examining the implications of the pandemic for gender differences in enterprise performance. We further consider how public policy responses in the domains of public health and economic support moderate the potential gendered effects of the pandemic. Data analysis of more than 20,000 enterprises across 38 countries shows that women-owned enterprises were more adversely affected by the pandemic, and that stronger public health policy responses helped reduce the observed gap in performance.

The proposed work design and organization of web of things-based home computerization is basically a Web Convention (IP) based control plot that can be reached any place there is a web association that permits you to control any gadget distantly without contacting it genuinely. This paper centers on the standards of IP-based constructions, the Arduino Uno R3 microcontroller, and electronic interface applications. The basic thought is to utilize this framework to exploit the monstrous expansion of cell phones, PCs, and web availability to grow human presence and potential outcomes. The fundamental objective of this paper is to empower or impair gadgets at home, just as to decide the device's present status. Every client should enlist and get a username and secret key before they can work the apparatus. The machine is inherent proteus with an Arduino micro-controller and a hypertext preprocessor for the customer program. The proposed idea in this paper was finished and assessed effectively utilizing reenactment and equipment execution.

Sensorless speed control of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) remains in progress to beat the prevailing drawbacks like speed ripples, torque ripples, and poor performance at low speeds with no load or lightly loaded conditions In this paper, Sensorless Field Oriented Control (FOC) system which is based on artificial neural network (ANN) implementation is proposed. The control system uses the ANN-aided Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS) for speed estimation. Both the speed estimator and the controller of the proposed system use ANN-based implementations. The performance of the proposed system is analyzed for speed control of PMSM, for various speed and load torque values. The simulation results of the proposed ANN-based speed estimator and controller model demonstrate that the ANN-aided MRAS based estimator has the capability to enhance the performance of the system. Specifically, it reduces the overall complexity and initial speed overshoot by 1% as compared to the conventional controllers employed for PMSM speed control. It also achieves 0.002 rad/s improvements on the steady-state error with acceptable settling and rising time in its dynamic response.

AbstractThe demand for animal protein is increased due to the high global human population increase. Therefore, this study aims to evaluate the effects of feeding different ratios of dried brewers grain and surplus cafeteria food on feed intake, body weight gain, and carcass characteristics of Wogera sheep. Twenty-yearling Wogera ram lambs with an average body weight of 19.48 ± 1.64 kg were assigned to one of the five treatments using a randomized complete block design. The treatments were T1-100 % dried brewers grain (DBG), T2-70 % DBG + 30 % Student surplus Cafeteria Food (SCF), T3-50 % DBG + 50 % SCF, T4-30 % DBG + 70 % SCF, and T5- 100 % SCF. Grass hay was used as a basal diet. Grass hay and total dry matter intake were different (P ≤ 0.05) between treatments, with the highest record for T1. There were high records (P ≤ 0.05) of body weight change at T3 and low in T1. Blood, heart, kidney fat, liver with bile, intestinal free gut as well as nonedible components had differences (P ≤ 0.05) between treatments. In conclusion, supplementation of 50% DBG + 50% student SCF can improve the final body weight of fattening Wogera sheep.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infections are worldwide healthcare burdens. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and associated factors of H. pylori infection among HIV patients at Southern-Ethiopia. A Hospital based cross-sectional study was conducted at Hawassa University comprehensive specialized hospital on 390 HIV infected adults on antiretroviral therapy from September to November 2017. All vital data were collected by designed questionnaires and stool samples were collected using appropriate sample cap for H. pylori stool antigen diagnosis. The overall prevalence of H. pylori infection of HIV infected patients was 17.9%. About 42.6% of the participants had a history of dyspepsia and of them, 4.3% were positive for H. pylori infection. In addition, 48.9% of patients were using either aqua tablet (67 mg-Trocloresene sodium) or water filters for drinking water, of them 11.5% were positive for H. pylori infection. Having a history of dyspepsia: the adjusted odds ratio [AOR (95% CI): 4.8 (1.6–14.7)], and age ≤30 years [AOR (95% CI):3.7(1.6–8.8)] were associated factors of H. pylori infection. Moreover, the association of H. pylori infection ≤ 30 years old and history of dyspepsia indicates the need of further large-scale and cohort type studies to determine the other possible associated factors for the infection. Ethnobotanical studies have shown that many wild plant species are sporadically consumed alongside regular food sources in developing countries. Many plants of wild and semi-wild origin are consumed in the remote parts of southern Ethiopia. Dietetic values of Ethiopia's non-crop food plants, though important in prevention of malnutrition and contribution to food security, remains shrouded for lack of chemical information. The chemical composition of popularly used wild edibles in Hamar and Konso (Xonso) of southern Ethiopia was examined. The most preferred 15 semi-wild and wild edible plants were selected using a mix of standard ethnobotanical field methods. Edible parts of target plants were collected with local participants, lyophilized and analyzed for proximate composition, amino acids, minerals and antinutritional factors. The wild edibles constituted good amounts of nutrients essential in human diet. Green leafy vegetables (GLVs) gave 1.5-5.8% ether extractives and total mineral composition of 12.5%-25.6%; Ca being highest (1100 - 3419 mg %) and exceptionally high for Justicia ladanoides (6177 mg %). Fe, Mg, Mn and Zn ranged from 11.7-23.14, 175-2049, 3.4-9.9 and 1.2-3.3 mg %, respectively. All GLVs contained [greater than or equal to] 20% protein, highest in Coccinia grandis (36.3%). The latter species and Trigonella foenum-graecum yielded high lysine level. Anti-nutrients of concern include phenolics (158-1564 mg %) and tannins (448-2254 mg %) in GLVs and phenolics (1997mg %) and tannins (6314 mg %) in Ximenia caffra fruits. Total oxalates in mg % were high in Amaranthus graecizans (14067), Celosia argentea (12706) and Portulaca quadrifida (10162). Bulk consumption of monotype edible plant part in one meal may lead to nutritional and health impairment. However, traditional processing methods lower most of the anti-nutritionals and their respective risks. New food composition tables that integrate indigenous knowledge and nutritional content of the semi-wild and wild edibles are recommended. Wild edibles can be considered to improve livelihood security and reduce malnutrition in tune with the Millennium Development Goals aimed at reducing poverty and hunger. Key words: GLVs, Hamar, Konso, nutrients, anti-nutrients, INTRODUCTION A serious challenge to human survival, particularly in the developing world, is the ever growing gap between human population and food supply. However, clients loss to follow-up (LTFU) from the treatment poses a paramount problem to the public, healthcare, and patient outcome. Thus, this study identified determinants of loss to follow-up to ART among adult clients in West Wollega hospitals, Oromia, Ethiopia, in 2021.Methods: An unmatched case-control study was conducted and a systematic random sampling technique was used. Data were collected from patient charts by three BSC nurses and three card reporters using a structured checklist. Then, it was entered into Epi-data version 3.1 and analyzed using SPSS version 21. Descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage) were used to present the results. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were performed using the backward stepwise method. Adjusted odds ratio (AOR) and p-values < 0.05 were used to declare significant association with loss to follow-up. Model fitness was checked using Hosmer-Lemeshow goodness-of-fit.Results: A total of 399 (133 patients and 266 controls) participated in this study. Rural residents (AOR:3.46, 95% CI:1.65, 7.25), male patient (AOR: 2.65 95% CI 1.54,4.55), lack of formal education (AOR: 4.35, 95% CI 1.53, 12.41), base line CD4 ≤ 350 (AOR: 5.25, 95% CI 1.93,14.24), poor functional status (AOR: 4.298, 95% CI 5.33,34.62) and WHO stages III & IV (AOR: 2.65, 95% CI 1.68,4.19), and tuberculosis co-infection (AOR: 2.82, 95% CI 1.11,7.45) were determinant factors of loss to follow up.Conclusion: Rural residence, male sex, daily laborer, no formal education, baseline CD4 count < 350 cells/mm3, baseline advanced WHO clinical stage, and TB co-infection were determinants of LTFU. Therefore, emphasis should be given to the identified factors along with awareness creation and health education sessions. Regular TB screening, optimal adherence regardless of their stay on ART, and follow-up study are recommended. Keywords: ART, loss to follow-up, adults, determinants, People Living with HIV, West Ethiopia

Background: Psoriasis (Ps) is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease associated with pruritus in 64–98% of patients. However, few modestly sized studies assess factors associated with psoriatic pruritus. Objective: To investigate factors associated with Ps pruritus intensity. Methods: Psoriasis patients 18years or older seen in one of 155 centres in Italy between September 2005 and 2009 were identified from the Italian PsoCare registry. Patients without cutaneous psoriasis and those with missed information on pruritus were excluded. Results: We identified 10802 patients, with a mean age 48.8±14.3years. Mild itch was present in 33.2% of patients, moderate in 34.4%, severe in 18.7% and very severe in 13.7%. Higher itch intensity was associated with female gender, lower educational attainment compared to university degree, pustular psoriasis, psoriasis on the head, face, palmoplantar areas, folds and genitalia, more severe disease, disease duration

- Abstract
Introduction Oral care, using either a mouth rinse, gel, toothbrush, or combination of them, together with aspiration of secretions, may reduce the risk of ventilator-acquired pneumonia in intubated patents. Oral care procedure in patients on venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VV-ECMO) may cause bleeding due to the systemic anticoagulation required. Purpose The aim of this study was to investigate the rate of bleeding episodes during oral care in patients supported by VV-ECMO. Methods A retrospective observational study was performed. All patients admitted to an Italian ECMO center during 2014 were included in the study. Results Data from 14 patients were analyzed. The median intensive care unit length of stay was 39.0 days (interquartile range, 27.3-83.3 days), and median days on VV-ECMO was 19.5 (10.3-46.0). There were 440 ECMO days, with 1320 oral care maneuvers. In 7 patients, bleeding episodes occurred: 2 with orotracheal intubation and 5 initially managed with orotracheal intubation, thereafter via Translaryngeal tracheostomy tube (according to Fantoni's technique). In 61 oral care procedures (4.6%), bleeding was detected during or after the maneuver, whereas the total numbers of days with at least 1 bleeding episode were 35 (8%). The presence or absence of bleeding during ECMO days was statistically significant for international normalized ratio (1.01 [0.95-1.11] vs 1.13 [1.03-1.25], P <.0001), platelets (163 000 [93 500-229 000] vs 61 000 [91 00-100 000], P <.0001), and mouth care score (6 [5-7] vs 8 [7-9], P <.001). Conclusion Oral care can cause bleeding in patients on VV-ECMO. Implementation of protocols for daily oral care in patients on ECMO may reduce risks. As recommended by the literature, this category of patients should be treated in selected centers distinguished by a regular volume of ECMO activity and the presence of dedicated ECMO specialist nurses

This family includes the largest genus in the world, Urtica, which is also known as stinging nettle. Stinging hairs are present on the lower surface of the leaves and beneath the stems of Urtica simensis, also known as the stinging nettle, herbal nettle that is dioecious, upright, and unbranched. For the treatment of conditions like gastritis, heart disease, diabetes, gonorrhea, and malaria, people employ various portions of Urtica simensis in a variety of ways in traditional medicine. The Urtica simensis leaves are rich in variety of active secondary phytochemical constituents including terpenoids, saponins, tannins, flavonoids, steroids, alkaloids, polyphenols, sterols, oxalate, and ascorbic acid (vitamin C). According to different reports, it possesses a variety of pharmacological properties, including antioxidant, antiproliferative, antidiabetic, cardioprotective, antiulcer, antibacterial, and antifungal actions. The current review summarizes published and unpublished information about the ethnobotanical, phytochemical, ethnopharmacological, and toxicological reports of Urtica simensis and summarizes all the research work carried out on this plant to provide updated information for future work. Keywords: Urtica simensis, ethnobotanical uses, phytochemical studies, ethnopharmacological studies, Ethiopia

SummaryBackground The nationwide prevalence of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in Italian patients with psoriasis has never been investigated. Objectives To estimate the nationwide prevalence of LTBI in Italian patients with psoriasis who are candidates for systemic treatment. Methods Data were obtained from the Psocare Registry on those patients (n = 4946) with age > 18 years, systemic treatment at entry specified and tuberculin skin test (TST) performed according to the Mantoux method. LTBI diagnosis was based on a positive TST result in the absence of any clinical, radiological or microbiological evidence of active tuberculosis. Results Latent tuberculosis infection was diagnosed in 8·3% of patients with psoriasis (409 of 4946). The prevalence of LTBI was lower in patients on biologics than in those on conventional systemic treatments, ranging from 4·3% (19 of 444) of patients on adalimumab to 31% (eight of 26) of those on psoralen–ultraviolet A (P

Owing to its variable topographic features, Ethiopia is endowed with rich biological resources. However, nowadays, these vital resources, mainly forests, are declining alarmingly, largely, due to agricultural expansion and energy consumption. This study was conducted at Gosh-Beret forest with the objective of investigating the status of forest species. Fifty-one main plots, spaced at a 100 m interval, were laid on north-south oriented transects. Within the main plots, five subplots, at each corner and center, were set to collect data for juveniles. In each plot, individuals of each woody species were identified and recorded. Percent cover abundance of each woody species per plot was genuinely estimated, which was later converted into the modified Braun–Blanquet scale. For each mature woody species, diameters at breast height (DBH ≥ 2 cm) were measured. Hierarchical cluster analysis was performed to identify community types. The Shannon–Wiener diversity index and Sorensen’s similarity coefficient were used to compare the species diversity and composition among communities, respectively. The structure and regeneration status of the forest species were analyzed using structural parameters and size-class ratios, respectively. A total of 52 woody species distributed in 35 families were recorded. Fabaceae, Euphorbiaceae, and Asteraceae were the most dominant families with 4 species each. The overall species diversity of the forest was 2.6, and five community types were generated from cluster analysis. In the study forest, frequency and density of species decrease with increasing frequency and density classes. Likewise, density of individuals in each class decreases as DBH classes increase. The total basal area of the forest was 19.81 m2ha−1, and the forest was at fair regeneration status with species having small IVI values and few/no seedlings. Therefore, immediate conservation measures are required to save species with small IVI values and few/no seedlings.

Background: Some studies have shown that switching patients from one tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alfa inhibitor to another may be beneficial when they have an inadequate response or an adverse event. Objective: We sought to assess the variables predicting the efficacy of the second TNF-alfa inhibitor in patients discontinuing the first TNF-alfa inhibitor. Methods: Data from all 5423 consecutive patients starting TNF-alfa inhibitor therapy for psoriasis between September 2005 and September 2010 who were included in the Italian Psocare registry were analyzed. Results: In 105 patients who switched to a second TNF-alfa inhibitor who had complete follow-up data, 75% improvement in the Psoriasis Area Severity Index score (PASI 75) was reached by 29% after 16 weeks and by 45.6% after 24 weeks. Patients who switched because of secondary loss of efficacy (loss of initial PASI 75 response) or adverse events/intolerance were more likely to reach PASI 75 than those who switched as a result of primary inefficacy (PASI 75 never achieved) (hazard ratio 2.7, 95% confidence interval 1.3-5.5 vs hazard ratio 2.0, 95% confidence interval 1.0-3.9 and 1, respectively). Limitations: There was a small number of patients with complete follow-up data. Conclusion: PASI 75 response in patients who switched from one antie-TNF-alfa agent to another was significantly reduced in patients who showed primary inefficacy of the first antie-TNF-alfa.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate variations in laboratory parameters and diagnoses of selected clinical conditions up to 16 weeks after starting a new systemic psoriasis treatment for Psocare Registry enrollees. DESIGN: Prospective cohort study. SETTING: Italian public referral centres for psoriasis treatment. PATIENTS: First-time recipients (n = 10,539) of continuous systemic psoriasis treatment for at least 16 weeks. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: Mean variations in (weeks 8 and 16) and proportions of patients reaching a clinically meaningful increase in serum levels (week 16) of total and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, triglycerides, aspartate amino transferase, alanine amino transferase and creatinine, as well as week-16 cumulative incidences of new diagnoses of diabetes mellitus and arterial hypertension. RESULTS: Mean cholesterol and triglyceride levels significantly increased in patients treated with acitretin or cyclosporine. Mean triglyceride levels also increased in efalizumab- and etanercept-treated patients. Mean transaminase values increased in methotrexate-treated patients, and mean aspartate amino transferase levels increased in infliximab-treated patients. The average serum creatinine value increased in cyclosporine-treated patients. Acitretin and cyclosporine were associated with risk of hypercholesterolaemia (odds ratios 1.51 and 1.34) and acitretin with risk of hypertriglyceridaemia (odds ratio 1.43). Methotrexate and infliximab were associated with risk of more than doubling the upper normal aspartate amino transferase (odds ratios 2.06 and 1.87) and alanine amino transferase (odds ratios 2.38 and 1.74) values. The relative risk of developing arterial hypertension and diabetes was increased for patients receiving cyclosporine (odds ratios 3.31 and 2.88). CONCLUSION: Systemic treatments for psoriasis resulted in heterogeneous effects on the parameters analysed.

Methanol crude extract and chloroform, ethyl acetate, n-butanol and aqueous fractions of the methanolic extract of fruits and stem bark of Acacia nilotica (L.) Willd. ex Del. (Fabaceae) were screened for antibacterial activity of diarrhoea-causing bacterial species (Escherichia coli, Shigella dysenteriae and Salmonella typhi) in Ethiopia using standard agar dilution method. Oral acute toxicity studies were also carried out on mice with the ethyl acetate fruit fraction of A. nilotica. Compared with standard antibiotic (chloramphenicol and tetracycline) extracts and fractions, A. nilotica had low activity (P

Hybridisation ,Lathyrus ,lathyrine ,Neurotoxin ,ODAP - Abstract
Lathyrus sativus is an economically important legume crop cultivated for food and forage in Asia and Africa. The use of this hardy drought tolerant and high yielding crop, however, has been limited because of a neurotoxin, _-N-oxalyl-L-_,_-diaminopropionic acid (ODAP) in the seeds. The objective of this study was to increase the genetic diversity of L. sativus by interspecific hybridisation with wild Lathyrus species devoid or with very low ODAP content. This would in turn assist to study the biochemical and genetic mechanisms which control the biosynthesis of ODAP. L. sativus was crossed with 12 wild Lathyrus species. Except for the reciprocal crosses of L. sativus and L. pseudo-cicera, others failed to develop viable seeds. In several of the interspecific hybrids, pod development was observed but embryos aborted during early stages of development. Embryo culture was attempted to rescue these immature embryos. The response of the interspecific hybrid embryos to in vitro culture varied. Cell proliferation and callus induction were observed in most of the combinations, and mature plants were regenerated from immature embryos of a cross between L. sativus (male parent) and L. cicera (female parent) both of which contain ODAP. However, it is expected that, with few modifications, this method will be useful in other interspecific hybrid combinations of Lathyrus. Key Words: Hybridisation, Lathyrus, lathyrine, Neurotoxin, ODAP (African Crop Science Journal: 2000, 8(2): 129-136)
