The research explores the link between game and learning facilitated by the introduction of Gamebased Student Response Systems (GSRS) in teaching. The integrated approach to compare the GSRS highlights the importance of digital accessibility following the principles of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) to design inclusive learning experiences. A critical review of the selected GSRS is proposed, based on specific attributes. The comparison, through the use of Google Lighthouse, to evaluate the conformity to the UDL and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines principles, aims to provide a thorough comprehension of the usage of these facilities from the perspective of an inclusive and accessible instructional design. - Abstract
The time-based characteristics of industrial heritage sites that are no longer useful for their original purposes make them important subjects of conflicting values through complex transformation processes. This complexity is further compounded when property ownership poses a challenge, as heritage ownership is often shared among various groups in society. People can experience and engage with shared ownership in several ways, including acquiring knowledge, visiting, enjoying, and inspiring. This research focuses on the concept of shared heritage ownership, specifically accessibility, and examines three subcategories: free access for wider public, semi-private, or semi-public uses for cultural visitors with admission charges, and private uses for tenants as new locals. This study examines two privately owned industrial heritage sites: the Beykoz Kundura in Istanbul, which was formerly a tannery, and the Baumwoll-Spinnerei in Leipzig, which was previously a cotton mill. Both sites have been transformed into cultural hubs and are recognised as exemplary models. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The research presented here represents an 'experiment' in the application of the methodology of the Accessibility Plan to the monumental complex of the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. The goal of the research is to attempt to increase the degree of accessibility of the complex through an innovative medium and long-term strategic planning tool that takes into consideration not only tangible aspects (physical and sensory accessibility) but also intangible aspects, thus enabling people to fully visit and understand the cultural significance of the locations, with a focus on the experiential aspect of the visit. In other words, the ultimate objective of the research presented here is to identify ways to enhance the usability and accessibility conditions of the spaces within the monumental complex of the Opera di Santa Maria del Fiore, harmonizing the requirements of heritage preservation with those of accessibility.

The knowledge, promotion and valorisation of Italy's Cultural Heritage express an extraordinary value in the international cultural panorama. Italy contains the major sites of cultural, archaeological and landscape interest which should be accessible to all. The "Sardinia Isola del Romanico" Foundation was created with the aim of showing the great monumental heritage of the Sardinian Middle Ages, represented by over 150 Romanesque monuments located throughout the island. To increase the use of these monuments it is essential to promote their real and virtual accessibility, introducing in both cases the use of new information and digital technologies. Accessibility has therefore become the key word to achieve this objective, which allows everyone to enjoy cultural heritage, breaking down distances and barriers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The right to education in prison offers a chance for human growth in a complex and dehumanizing environment. However, the peculiarities of prison systems, together with past experiences of school failure, can constitute significant obstacles to knowledge access. To enhance accessibility, participation, and achievement, even within prisons, it is necessary to review teaching practices. This paper aids in the reconsideration of the teaching of mathematics for incarcerated adults or young adults. Drawing on Paulo Freire’s theories, we analyze the dialogues with and among prisoner students about mathematics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The advent of the new periodic and final evaluation of learning outcomes of students of Primary School classes opens important trajectories for a teaching capable of assuming the characteristics of accessibility understood as cultural and teaching posture. This contribution aims to highlight how a formative assessment, on which the Ministerial Order n.172/2020 is based, presents characteristics facilitating the learning of all students. In particular, under observation, will be placed above the objectives and evaluation tools that, in a paradigm of educational type, push the teaching to take the features of greater accessibility. The increasing number of students with disabilities and SLDs in Italian universities should be treated from the dual perspective of the protection of the right to education and accessibility. Within the framework of inclusive policies and practices, this contribution deals with the Tutoring Service for students with disabilities and SLDs. The University of Roma Tre and, first and foremost, the Department of Educational Sciences have over time built a system of inclusion in which the role of peer tutors is enhanced. An investigation into tutoring activities is presented here, from which strengths, critical points and new perspectives for improving the accessibility of Higher Education courses for students with disabilities and SLDs emerge. - Abstract
In the face of a vast literature and numerous scientific studies aimed at investigating theoretical foundations and practical applications related to the perspective of educational differentiation, an area still little explored, seems to be the one related to the representations accrued by many teachers regarding their daily action. What has been asserted also recalls the need to know and deepen the preconceptions and images developed around an approach that is often mistakenly considered, per se, of exclusive interest to a certain group of teachers, or applicable only in the presence of students in particular vulnerable conditions. The data emerged from the "Differentiate According to Me" survey, the subject of this contribution, restore a rich picture of possible spaces for intervention and improvement actions, with a view to enhancing all diversity, both of students and of teachers themselves, who present different needs, related to personal characteristics, training experiences, and roles held. Together with OperaLombardia, Aedo imagined and created the “That's Opera!” project, a multimedia and spectacular traveling project to change the narration of the world of opera and with the aim of bringing new audiences - especially the younger ones - both to get to know and to inhabit their buildings, and to approach listening to opera in an unprecedented way. Thanks to the construction of sensitive environments with an immersive, multisensory and interactive character, the complexity of the world of opera is told, especially that part that is not seen and which consists in creating and rehearsing the show (backstage and making of opera). What you see on stage is only the emerging tip of the show, its indispensable and magical conclusion. Aedo's main mission consists in enhancing places of culture which, together with the experimentation of new forms and their accessibility, makes it possible to capture and tell the charm and secrets of an art form such as opera. Among the peculiarities of the intervention, in fact, the ability of Aedo, built over time, to use narrative techniques, contemporary artistic, technological and scientific tools and languages stands out, to transmit cultural contents, make them increasingly universally accessible and bring them closer to the public with a surprise of the unreleased.

Cities are the main field of application of technological innovations for ecological transition and decarbonisation. With reference to its proximity spaces, the research proposes a multidisciplinary and transcalar vision in which analytical and quantitative methods of urban design are combined with qualitative assessment methods of technological design to simulate and measure the impacts of interventions in terms of mitigation and adaptation to the effects of climate change. A planning support tool, based on game theory, guides the choice between effective and interdependent solutions for decarbonisation through renewable energy production, ecosystem services and accessibility to essential services. ACCESSIBLE design , *UNIVERSAL design , *TWENTIETH century , *SOCIAL context , *OPEN-ended questions , *NATURE & nurture - Abstract
The seminar series "Beyond Barriers - The many facets of the concept of accessibility," organized at the University of Bergamo, offered a valuable opportunity to reopen and nurture, according to a transversal and interdisciplinary perspective, the debate on the nature and evolution of the concept of accessibility, as well as on the fundamental design outcomes within the social context. The proposed contribution intends to outline, in its salient moments, the path taken, in the twentieth century, by the concept of accessibility: from the first barrier-free design perspectives to the most recent theoretical elaborations, passing through the focus of various orientations (Universal Design, Design for All) and the insights of revolutionary designers and architects (Papanek, Mace). In conclusion, from the rich debate developed during the seminars, some fundamental and promising open questions are identified. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

From ancient Babel to the encounters of Modernity Pages: 312 Language: Italian, Spanish NBN: http://nbn.depositolegale.it/resolver.pl?nbn=urn:nbn:it:unina-29914 Abstract: If, as one conjectures in Historia de la eternidad, “desde Homero todas las metáforas íntimas, necesarias, fueron ya advertidas y escritas”, then a principle of repetitiveness̀, redundancy and emulation governs the construction of literature, as a rewriting of the already written rather than as an invention of the new. This is an idea that Borges exploited insatiably in his palimpsests, and 20th-century literary criticism has probed in depth, from different theoretical perspectives, between linguistics and semiology, structuralism and reception theory, eroding the conventional conception of the work as the original product of an isolated and defined subjectivity, bringing attention to the text as an intricate weave of citations from earlier writings. With the aim of fostering reflection on this complex theoretical and problematic field, the customary Days of Hispanic American Literature were held at the University of Salerno between 11 and 13 May 2022. The texts collected in this volume, from the traces of the fertile debates of those days, solicit the question of "writings and rewritings"; from a plurality ofdisciplinary interests and methodological approaches., Editore: Università degli Studi di Salerno.

29. Testing the hypothesis of “translation as a catalyst for plain legislation” on the syntactic level: a comparison of different varieties of legislative Italian

- Abstract
Translation is often considered as an ally of plain legal language. This corpus-based study sets out to provide empirical support for this hypothesis by comparing different varieties of legislative Italian used in a monolingual context (Italy) and in two multilingual settings (Switzerland and the European Union). The investigation relies primarily on a quantitative analysis of syntax informed by natural language processing (NLP) methods. The results suggest that translated legislation features shorter sentences, fewer nominalizations, an underuse of the passive voice, fewer non-finite clauses, less deep syntactic trees, shorter dependency links, and a preference for the SVO order with an explicit subject. Among the two multilingual contexts, Swiss legislation shows a slightly higher level of accessibility compared to EU directives. A complementary analysis using readability metrics confirms these trends. Nevertheless, in addition to the translation process in multilingual contexts, other latent external variables may have a (hardly quantifiable) impact on the level of accessibility, such as institutional language policies, legal traditions, drafting guidelines, and training programs for translators and language experts., La traduzione è spesso considerata come un’alleata della chiarezza linguistica dei testi giuridici.

The central role played by space within the educational field, considered as a prerequisite for action, redefines the didactic experience through the meanings of design and organization, implying a systemic relationship between teacher, learner and contexts. The aim of this paper is to reflect upon the meanings of space, spatiality, accessibility and the opportunity to prepare educational and didactic places in which the inclusion of each and every one can be promoted, including pupils with complex communication needs. Indeed, for those pupils the absence of language, a partial or not very functional use of language can represent a limitation to well-being, an obstacle to activity and an impediment to participation to school context.

The research refers to the eco-social theory and environmental accessibility principles towards inclusive strategies and it targets public spaces used as a requirement for an autonomous and independent life. The contribution, referring to the 2030 Agenda, presents the experiment applied to the Municipality of Udine, a medium-size Italian city. While drafting the PEBA, the research focuses on urban itineraries, adopting and updating the regulatory tools in force. The administration, supported by the university, commuted the drafting process into a strategic opportunity of knowledge of the context defining the relationships between citizens and urban habitat. The research provides the possibility to qualify some strategic objectives and identify potential actions for an increasingly peoplefriendly city. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Urban regeneration policies are today also oriented towards environmental sustainability and energy consumption containment. Attention is today addressed to policies aimed at promoting active mobility, reducing polluting emissions, cost savings, improving the relations between people, social inclusion and accessibility, to the expansion of green spaces. The paper proposes a research approach in which two thematic areas are associated in an integrated way: the regeneration of land and the accessibility to the same land, topics that are relevant today and that are part of Goal 11 of the 2030 Agenda which aims to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. The approach is part of a more general framework of research focusing on "transport/land use" relationships, with its specific connotation based on quantitative indicators and measures. It is applied in particular to a port area affected close to large industrial settlement which has never come into operation and is characterised by evident damage. Measures aimed at the regeneration of the territory, the reorganisation of the facilities system, and the enhancement of the port infrastructure in an eco-sustainable perspective are outlined. The accessibility analyses underline in quantitative terms, through appropriate models, one of the key elements useful for measuring the impact of the seafront regeneration action.

The research proposes a model for the redevelopment of the architectural and archaeological heritage through the construction of a network made up of physical elements present in the urban areas (connected by thematic paths) and a supporting information system, available for consultation online using mobile devices. The goal is to develop a model that can be used in different contexts, able to facilitate the accessibility and dissemination of knowledge of art sites and, at the same time, to support related activities and services. These objectives are pursued through three main actions: - the construction of the thematic routes of the network and the definition of the contents that explain their characteristics; - the development of a supporting information system; - the definition of the network management plan. As regards the methodology, the research was applied to the city of Reggio Calabria. 10 thematic routes have been built, which link urban spaces and monuments, characteristic of the history and identity of the city. The contents to be included in the information system have been elaborated (graphic works, iconographies, drawings, projects, texts); an app for mobile devices, support and integration to the visit was developed; a project was drafted for the management of the system and for the economic feasibility of the project. The main result that the study has allowed to obtain is the definition of a protocol applicable in different contexts for dimensions, characteristics of the heritage to be enhanced and quantity of available information. Mixed network.

In our study we are examining the sustainable tourism utilization of Nádasdy Castle and its role in the tourism of the spa town of Sárvár, which is becoming more and more well-known in Western Hungary because of its outstanding historical-cultural value, as a sustainable development of one of Hungary's most important sights. In order to explore the future development possibilities of the castle, known as the symbol of the city, it is essential to analyze the development tendencies determining the tourism of Sárvár and the tourist area of the settlement. The fundamental goal of our research is to answer the question of what priorities can be developed in tourism of Sárvár in the future. Among the segments forming the tourist destination of the city, we are particularly concerned about those ones, which are in connection with history or culture, and which are interested in the increasing number of people with disabilities in the tourism market. Accessible tourism is an added value of sustainable development of cultural heritage. In our research we used both quantitative data analysis and qualitative methods, the existing secondary data were complemented with the primary data collection with the city's tourism space, attractions, local economy, and with the city's tourist target groups, including disabled people. - Abstract
87 million European citizens have some form of disability. In an ideal world, every product should be accessible to everyone through an inclusive design process that ensures an equivalent experience for all. Designing web and mobile applications with accessibility as a priority means designing interaction systems that are "interoperable", i.e. always reliable in different contexts of use and in the presence of different methods of navigation, data entry and exchange. For this reason, the UX/UI designer must acquire specific skills in the field of web standards and thus learn the basics of HTML semantics, essential for the design of accessible web components. So don't stop at the surface, but go deeper to meet everyone's needs. The article aims to address the issue of accessibility in the design of mobile applications and websites according to current Web Standards, through the analysis of case studies and best practices, in order to delineate the role of the designer within the whole development process in relation to the other figures involved., 87 milioni di cittadini europei presentano una qualche forma di disabilità.

45. Gender Equality in Urban Planning : A Crucial Factor for Real Inclusive Development

- Abstract
Cities are growing at unprecedented speed, with all the challenges this global trend poses, from macro environmental and social level to individual level. Today the vast majority of women worldwide living in urban areas do not have the same access as men to public spaces and to services that the urban area offers. Furthermore, women often feel more unsafe in public spaces than men, and gendered violence and harassment in public spaces is a problem that is pervasive and widespread globally. Women have historically been omitted in the urban planning process, with the consequence that cities do not respond to their needs, lives, activities, experiences, and in the worst cases discriminate and segregate them. Consequently, the access to cities’ public services is limited for women and young girls, and so are also their economic and political powers- an important democratic issue. My research explores how systematically including the gender mainstreaming perspective at an early stage in urban planning and adopting participatory bottom-up communication processes that give voice and empowerment to the marginalized, could be a decisive factor in developing inclusive and accessible cities for all, against discrimination and segregation. Putting the gender equality perspective at the centre of the communication of designing/redesigning/transforming urban areas is therefore strategic to the implementation and success of an inclusive social development for all, both in the Global South and in the Global North. Keywords: urban planning, public spaces, gender, gender mainstreaming, gender equality, inclusivity, accessibility, social equity, urban justice, participation, democracy.

- Abstract
Medical reports are a fundamental text type in the life of patients, but also one of the most difficult ones to understand by non-specialists. For this reason, software tools specifically devoted to the simplification of medical texts, including reports, have been developed. In this paper, we analysed the performance of two different text simplification tools in a sample of fifty medical reports in English. Both tools support lexical simplification, while one of the tools also provides suggestions for syntactic simplification. We compared the two tools by calculating the readability index of each medical report before and after being processed by the tools. To this aim, we used two different readability formulas. Both tools succeeded in producing some degree of simplification; however, their performance strongly varied depending on the text and the readability formula considered.

The paper describes the methodological approach proposed within H2020 ROCK project, on the adaptive reuse of public spaces in the historic city, particularly focussing on accessibility. The methodology is applied in a test-bed site of the historical context with the aim to identify integrated and effective strategies capable of shifting attention from the single building to the urban scale, following a performance-oriented approach. The goal is to contribute, through a light infrastructure, enabling technologies and new services, to the definition of a barrier-free built environment suitable to satisfy the citizen's environmental well-being in an equitable manner. The integrated approach involved users and key factors such as: disabled associations, sectors of the Municipality, representatives and operators of cultural institutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
