Cancer is the second most common cause of death worldwide. It is a generic name for a large group of diseases that can affect any part of the body. Cancer affects both energy intake through the diet and the total energy expenditure (TEE) through the changes in energy metabolism, resulting in negative or positive energy balance. Determining daily energy requirement is very important in the regulation of the nutrition therapy in a cancer patients. Due to the difficulty in directly measuring the TEE, resting energy expenditure, which is the largest component of the TEE, is often used in the determination of the energy requirement. In this study, the effects of disease-specific factors such as tumor burden, inflammation, weight loss and cachexia on energy metabolism in cancer patients were investigated.

Öz: Akut lenfoblastik lösemi (ALL), çocukluk çağında en sık görülen kanser türüdür. Obezite, ALL’densağ kalan çocuklarda rastlanan önemli bir sorundur. Bu çalışma çocukluk çağı akut lenfoblastik lösemitedavisi sonrası sağ kalan çocukların tanı anı, tedavi sonu ve sonraki süreçlerde antropometrik ölçümlerinindeğerlendirilmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Remisyon halinde olan, yaşları 5 ile 15 yıl arasında(9,7±3,32 yıl) değişen 67 gönüllü birey ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Bireylere ait bilgiler ve ölçümler ebeveyniile birlikte yüz yüze görüşme yöntemi kullanılarak elde edilmiş, retrospektif verilerine hasta dosyalarındanulaşılmıştır. Remisyon döneminde bireylerin %28,1’inin fazla kilolu, %21,9’unun obez olduğusaptanmıştır. Tanı anında bireylerin %25,3’ünün, tedavi sonunda %65,7’sinin, remisyon döneminde%50,0’sinin fazla kilolu ve/veya obez olduğu saptanmıştır. Bireylerin tanı anına göre tedavi sonuve remisyon dönemindeki ortalama BKİ değerlerindeki artış istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmuştur(p(p>0,05). Akut lenfoblastik lösemi tedavisi sonrası sağ kalan bireylerde gelişen obezitenin saptanması,nedenlerinin araştırılması ve önüne geçilmesi endokrin ve metabolik hastalıkların önlenmesi açısındanönem taşımaktadır. Akut lenfoblastik lösemi tanısı alan çocukların tedavi sırasında ve tedavisonrası süreçte metabolik bulguları, antropometrik ölçümleri yakından takip edilmeli, çocuklar sağlıklıyaşam (dengeli beslenme, fiziksel aktivitenin arttırılması, sedanter yaşamın azaltılması vb.) konusundadesteklenmeli, aileler bilgilendirilmeli ve bu alanda nutrisyonel hedeflerin oluşturulması gerekmektedir.Anahtar Kelimeler: Akut Lenfoblastik Lösemi, Pediatri, Obezite, Antropometri

Paralysis Agitans (Parkinson’s Disease), a special motor dysfunction, was firstdefined by James Parkinson in 1817. In 1919, it was reported that the most important anomaly of Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the loss of the neurons in the midbrain(1, 2). In the 1950s, researchers discovered that dopamine, which leads to understanding the pathophysiology and pathological biochemistry of PD, is depletedin the basal ganglia. Approximately 80% reduction in dopamine concentrationdrives to tremor, rigidity, akinesia/bradykinesia and postural instability, which arethe main symptoms of the disease (3). These symptoms are defined as Parkinsonism and are considered to be a result of the progressive degeneration of dopaminergic neurons (4, 5).Parkinson’s disease is a slowly progressing chronic disease which usually startsbetween the ages 50 and 60 (6). Although various studies have been carried out todevelop science-based therapies, the etiology of Parkinson’s disease has not beenfully clarified. It is reported that it is a non-inherited disease associated with environmental factors (water, herbicides, pesticides, chemicals) (7). If the diseasestarts at the age of 20, it is called primary juvenile parkinsonism, and if it startsbetween the ages 20 and 40, it is called young onset parkinsonism (6). This disease is observed in 1-2% of individuals aged 55 and above (8). At least two signsof Parkinsonism are seen in 15% of individuals between the ages 65-74, 30% ofindividuals between the ages 75-84, and more than 50% of the individuals over85. The disease is 1.5 times more common in men than in women (6), and 4 timeshigher in the white race than in the black race (9). When the natural course of thedisease is examined, it is seen that although the disease is significantly benign insome cases, 66% of the patients have symptoms of motor dysfunction in 5 years,while 80% of the patients have these symptoms in 10 years(10).

Amaç: Bu çalışma maternal dönemde yüksek miktarda folik asite maruziyetin gebe ratlarda bozulmuşglukoz toleransı ve yavru ratlarda insulin direnci gelişimi üzerine etkisinin değerlendirilmesi amacıylaplanlanmıştır. Materyal ve yöntem: Wistar türü dişi ratların (n:18) gebe kalmaları sağlanmış verandomize şekilde kontrol, deney 1 ve deney 2 olmak üzere üç gruba ayrılmıştır. Gebelik dönemindeher gruba folik asit içerikleri farklı üç ayrı beslenme protokolü (kontrol grubu: 2 mg/kg folik asit, deney1 grubu: 5 mg/kg folik asit, deney 2 grubu: 40 mg/kg folik asit) uygulanmıştır. Laktasyon dönemindetüm annelerin aynı folik asit içeriğine sahip yemle (2 mg/kg folik asit) beslenmeleri sağlanmıştır.Gebeliğin 16. gününde gebelere oral glukoz tolerans testi uygulanmıştır. Laktasyon dönemi sonrasında18 dişi ve 18 erkek olmak üzere toplamda 36 yavrunun vücut ağırlığı ve yem tüketimi takibi yapılmıştır.Annelere laktasyon sonunda, yavruların yarısına (n:18) yedinci haftanın sonunda diğer yarısına (n:18)ise on ikinci haftanın sonunda ötenazi işlemi uygulanmıştır. Anne ve yavru ratların serum folik asit,homosistein, B12 vitamini, insülin, glukoz, IL-6, TNF-α, HbA1c ve adiponektin düzeylerine bakılmıştır.Yavru ratlarda insülin direncini değerlendirmek için HOMA-IR, obezite durumunun değerlendirmesiiçin lee indeksi hesaplanmıştır. Bulgular: Gebelik döneminde anne ratlara uygulanan OGTT sonuçlarıdeğerlendirildiğinde; deney 2 grubunun başlangıç, 60. dakika, 90. Dakika ve 120. dakikadaki kan glukozdeğerleri diğer gruplardan daha yüksek olduğu ve kontrol grubuyla arasındaki fark istatiksel olarakönemli bulunmuştur (p0,05). Kontrol ve deney 2 grubu annelerin yedi haftalık ve oniki haftalık yavrularının HOMA-IR değeri benzer olup deney 1 grubu annelerin yavrularından dahayüksektir (p>0.05). Sonuç: Bu çalışmayla gebelik döneminde yüksek miktarda folik asite maruziyetingebelerde glukoz intoleransına ve yavrularında ise insülin direnci gelişimine etkileri saptanmıştır.Anahtar Kelimeler: Gebe, folik asit, glukoz intoleransı, insülin direnci

Breast cancer is one of the most common and fatal carcinomas worldwide and poses a serious threat to women's health. Lifestyle factors such as malnutrition, obesity, and lack of physical activity are known to be associated with a higher risk of breast cancer. The Mediterranean diet is considered one of the healthiest eating patterns worldwide, mainly due to its rich content of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory foods. It has been suggested that the combination of dietary components plays a common role in reducing inflammation and oxidative stress, thereby preventing the progression of various malignancies, including cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Considering its protective effects in reducing the oxidative and inflammatory processes of cells and preventing deoxyribo nucleic acid damage, cell proliferation and survival, angiogenesis, inflammation and metastases, the Mediterranean diet is thought to be an effective method in preventing breast cancer and in the treatment of breast cancer. This review is written to examine the potential effects of the Mediterranean diet on breast cancer prevention and breast cancer treatment., Meme kanseri, dünya çapında en yaygın ve ölümcül karsinomlardan biridir ve kadın sağlığı için ciddi bir tehdit oluşturmaktadır. Kötü beslenme, obezite, fiziksel aktivite eksikliği gibi yaşam tarzı faktörlerinin daha yüksek meme kanseri riski ile ilişkili olduğu bilinmektedir. Akdeniz diyeti, temel olarak antioksidanlar ve antiinflamatuvar besinler açısından zengin içeriğe sahip olması nedeniyle dünya çapında en sağlıklı beslenme modellerinden biri olarak kabul edilmektedir. Diyet bileşenlerinin kombinasyonunun; inflamasyonu ve oksidatif stresi azaltmada ortak bir rol oynadığı, dolayısıyla kardiyovasküler hastalıklar ve kanser dahil olmak üzere çeşitli malignitelerin ilerlemesine engel olduğu öne sürülmüştür. Hücrelerin oksidatif ve inflamatuvar süreçlerini azaltmada ve deoksiribo nükleik asit hasarlarını, hücre proliferasyonunu ve hayatta kalmalarını, anjiyogenezleri, inflamasyonu ve metastazları önlemedeki koruyucu etkileri göz önüne alındığında, Akdeniz diyetinin meme kanserinden korunmada ve meme kanseri tedavisinde etkili bir yöntem olabileceği düşünülmektedir. Bu derleme, Akdeniz diyetinin meme kanserinden korunmadaki ve meme kanseri tedavisindeki potansiyel etkilerinin incelenmesi amacıyla yazılmıştır.

Since it is not a popular part of the typical Europeanand North American diets, intake rates are much lower (Whiting et al. 2012).Capsaicin is an alkaloid from the Capsicum family that gives chili peppers theirspicy and sharp flavor (Hayman and Kam 2008). It is a naturally occurringphytochemical that is one of the most active compounds in red and chili peppers(Hsu et al. 2016). It was isolated for the first time in 1846, and its structure wasdiscovered in 1919 (Hayman and Kam 2008). It's an odorless white crystal witha burning sharpness (Arora et al. 2011) that accounts for roughly 70% of thehotness in hot chili peppers (Saito and Yoneshiro 2013). It is abundant in theplacental tissues, which keep the fruit's seeds in place.
