We morphologically characterized the creole pig of the Guamote canton located 44 km from the city Riobamba, belonging to the province of Chimborazo. The investigation lasted for 60 days, during which a descriptive methodology for the morphological characterization was performed in a population sample of 72 animals, measuring a 14 zoometric and seven phaneroptical variables. Additionally, seven proportional zoom indexes of male and female pigs over six months of age. Avcerages for the zoometric measurements of the Creole pigs of the Guamote canton were; LK 24.64 cm; LC 15.11 cm; AK 14.77cm; AO 15.71 cm; LO 19.56 cm; AC 59.54 cm; AG 65.92 cm; DL 81.61; SDD 31.40 cm; DB 26.94 cm; ANG 25.02 cm; LG 25.85 cm; PT 91.24 cm; PC 16.91 cm; and PV 59.61 kg. According to the panoptical variables and zoometric indexes, it is concluded that the Creole pig belonging to the Guamote canton is an animal with characteristics similar to the Iberian pig of the Gabana variety with a completely black coat without spots, dark mucous membranes, long and abundant hair, in profile sub-concave, dolichocephalic in which the length of its face predominates over the width, good depth of chest which determines its functionality and rusticity, with a rump of curved lines very good for reproduction, eumetrics or medium-sized with no lamellas and syndactyly, which is why it is recommended to guarantee the conservation of Creole pigs in the Guamote canton, since it constitutes a zoogenetic resource of great importance through the generation of genetic nuclei in the area, thus allowing new generations to inherit the great wealth and diversity of the genetic resources existing in Ecuador.

Pilonidal disease is a condition of chronic inflammation and foreign body reaction of loose and abundant hair in the gluteal cleft leading to pits, sinuses, and recurrent bouts of infection. Several management strategies have been used since initial description of the disease in 1833; however, all of them have been complicated by the potential of recurrence. Episodes of recurrence have been attributed to incomplete management of diseased tissue, either by unfinished excision or by disruption of sinuses, as well as a persistence of a deep gluteal cleft after excision with or without primary closure. Management options in this setting include negative pressure devices, sclerosants, or reoperative techniques. Repeat excision, with or without primary closure, is one surgical option, yet may simply lead to similar results with the potential for increased morbidity. To help rectify this, flap-based management has emerged as a viable option to bring in healthy tissue and address some of the potential underlying conditions leading to recurrent or complex pilonidal disease. To date, no one particular flap has proven superior to others or has been labeled as the gold standard; yet, each has their own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, choice of flap technique should be determined in part by the extent of patient disease and surgeon expertise. In this article, we will review the data regarding reoperative surgery for pilonidal disease and explore the outcomes and emerging techniques to help surgeons care for this difficult problem.

The wig is said to have come into fashion well over 300 years ago. A portrait of King Louis the XIIIth painted in 1624 shows his head covered with abundant hair that is surely a wig.

Thirteen out of 36 strains of Rivulariaceae were found to be able to produce hairs. In all 13 strains, abundant hair increase occurred under conditions of phosphate deficiency. Fe deficiency also led to hair formation in 8 strains, and Mg deficiency in one strain, but Ca, Mo and SO4 deficiences had no such effect. Although the presence of combined nitrogen had a marked effect on the trichome morphology of the heterocystous strains, it reduced hair formation in only three strains, and the effect was only slight. Addition of the missing element to deficient cultures with hairs always eventually led to the loss of the hair. Two field materials were also studied, in crude culture. Both showed increased hair development with decreasing phosphate concentration.

Several years ago I was radiographing a lady patient in the position which was known in those prehistoric days as the nose-forehead. I adjusted her head most carefully, pushing aside the abundant hair of the period, in order to be sure that the longitudinal axis of the skull was at right angles to the plate; but, while my back was turned, she rotated her head somewhat, and the radiograph in Fig. 1 was the result.
