We use the Weak Gravity Conjecture (WGC) to investigate the impact of charge dequantization arising from non-local QED on the scale of non-locality of neutrinos. We find this scale to be <= 87 TeV, which could be probed in future colliders. We study some phenomenological aspects of Lee-Wick (LW) QED. In particular, we show that LW QED implies charge dequantization and a flavor-dependent LW scale. We study the implications of the Weak Gravity Conjecture (WGC) in LW QED and calculate the modified electric force and potential and use the former to reformulate the WGC in LW QED. We also calculate the photon self-energy and the Uehling potential in LW QED. We show that bounds on milli-charged particles from matter neutrality experiments and from Cavendish-type experiments set stringent limits on the LW scale of fermions and of the photon., Comment: 22 Pages, 5 figures

We propose a generalized formulation of the Scalar Weak Gravity Conjecture (SWGC) based on the analogy with the derivation of the Gauge Weak Gravity Conjecture (GWGC). We discuss some phenomenological implications of this Generalized SWGC, including the scale of New Physics (NP) when applied to the SM Higgs sector, and the bounds on the axion's couplings to fermions and the photon when applied to the axion. We investigate several phenomenological implications of the Weak Gravity Conjecture (WGC). We find that the WGC implies that the SM neutrinos must be electrically neutral, that the electric charge in the SM must be quantized, and that the photon must be massless. In addition, we use the WGC to set lower bounds on the electric charge of milli-charged particles (mCP), the gauge coupling of several $U(1)$ extensions of the SM, their kinetic mixing parameter with the SM $U(1)_{\text{EM}}$, and the axion couplings to photons and fermions. We provide the corrected calculation of the muon g-2 in non-local QED previously done in the literature. In specific, we show the proper technique for calculating loops in non-local QED and use it to find the form factors F1(q1) and F2(q2) in non-local QED. We also utilize this technique to calculate some novel results in non-local QED, including calculating the correction to the photon self-energy, the modification to the classical Coulomb potential, the modification to the energy levels of the hydrogen atom, and the contribution to the Lamb shift. We also discuss charge dequantization through non-locality, and show that the experimental bounds on the electric charge on Dirac neutrinos, translate into strong flavor-dependent bounds on the scale on non-locality that range between 10^5 - 10^10 TeV. We also discuss the inconsistencies of unrenormalized non-local Quantum Field Theories (QFTs) and the need for renormalizing them, even when they are free from UV divergences., Comment: 29 pages, 3 figures

We investigate anomalies in the class of non-local field theories that have been proposed as an ultraviolet completion of 4-D Quantum Field Theory (QFT) with generalizing the kinetic energy operators to an infinite series of higher derivatives inspired by string field theory and ghost-free non-local approaches to quantum gravity. We explicitly calculate the vector and chiral anomalies in a string-inspired non-local extension of QED. We show that the vector anomaly vanishes as required by gauge-invariance and the Ward identity. On the other hand, although the chiral anomaly vanishes to the leading order with massless fermions, it nonetheless does not vanish with the massive fermions and we calculate it to the leading order in scale of non-locality. We also calculate the non-local vector and axial currents explicitly, and present an illustrative example by applying our results to the decay of \pi_0 \rightarrow \gamma\gamma., Comment: 19 pages, 1 figure

Di-Higgs couplings to fermions of the form $h^{2}\overline{f}f$ are absent in the Standard Model, however, they are present in several physics Beyond Standard Model (BSM) extensions, including those with vector-like fermions. In Effective Field Theories (EFTs), such as the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) and the Higgs Effective Field Theory (HEFT), these couplings appear at dimension 6 and can in general, be flavour-violating (FV). In the present work, we employ a bottom-up approach to investigate the FV in the lepton and quarks sectors through the di-Higgs effective couplings. We assume that all FV arises from this type of couplings and assume that the Yukawa couplings $Y_{ij}$ are given by their SM values, i.e. $Y_{ij} = \sqrt{2}m_{i}\delta_{ij}/v$. In the lepton sector, we set upper limits on the Wilson coefficients $C_{ll'}$ from $l \rightarrow 3l'$ decays, $l \rightarrow l\gamma$ decays, muonium oscillations, the $(g-2)_{\mu}$ anomaly, LEP searches, muon conversion in nuclei, FV Higgs decays, and $Z$ decays. We also make projections on some of these coefficients from Belle II, the Mu2e experiment and the LHC's High Luminosity (HL) run. In the quark sector, we set upper limits on the Wilson coefficients $C_{qq'}$ from meson oscillations and from $B$-physics searches. A key takeaway from this study is that current and future experiments should set out to measure the effective di-Higgs couplings $C_{ff'}$, whether these couplings are FV or flavour-conserving. We propose a renormalization scheme for non-local Quantum Field Theories (QFTs) with infinite derivatives inspired by string theory. Our Non-locality Renormalization Scheme (NRS) is inspired by Dimensional Regularization (DR) in local QFTs and is shown to significantly improve the UV behavior of non-local QFTs. We illustrate the scheme using simple examples from the phi3 and phi4 theories, then we evaluate the viability of NRS-enhanced non-local QFTs to solve the hierarchy problem using a simplified toy model. We find that non-locality protects the mass of a light scalar from receiving large corrections from any UV sector to which it couples, as long as the non-locality scale M is sufficiently smaller than the scale of the UV sector. We use an Effective Field Theory (EFT) approach to evaluate the viability of the Higgs to account for the $g-2$ anomaly. Although the SM contribution of the Higgs to the muon's magnetic dipole moment is negligible, using a \textit{bottom-up} EFT, we show that given the current level of experimental limits on the Higgs sector, the Higgs can still yield a viable solution to the $g-2$ anomaly if its couplings to the rest of the SM particles are allowed to deviate from their SM predictions. Further, applying unitarity arguments, we show that such a solution would indicate a scale of New Physics (NP) of $\sim 10 -18$ TeV, which could be lowered to $\sim 5$ TeV if the Higgs couplings to the $W$ and $Z$ are assumed to conform to their SM predictions. We show that such a scenario could yield significant enhancement to the di-Higgs production in muon colliders, thus providing further motivation for its consideration. In this Snowmass white paper, we describe how unitarity bounds can convert sensitivities for Higgs couplings at future colliders into sensitivities to the scale of new physics. This gives a model-independent consequence of improving these sensitivities and illustrate the impact they would have on constraining new physics. We adopt a bottom-up Effective Field Theory (EFT) approach to derive a model-independent Veltman condition to cancel the quadratic divergences in the Higgs mass. We show using the equivalence theorem that all deviations in the Higgs couplings to the W and Z from the SM predictions should vanish. We argue based on tree-level unitarity, that any new physics that naturally cancels the quadratic divergences should be ~19 TeV. We show that the level of fine-tuning required is O(0.1- 1%) unless the UV sector has a symmetry that forces the satisfaction of the model-independent Veltman condition, in which case all fine-tuning is eliminated. We also conjecture that if no new physics that couples to the Higgs is found up to ~ 19 TeV, or if the Higgs couplings to the SM particles conform to the SM predictions, then either the Higgs does not couple to any UV sector or is fine-tuned.

A primary goal of present and future colliders is measuring the Higgs couplings to Standard Model (SM) particles. Any observed deviation from the SM predictions for these couplings is a sign of new physics whose energy scale can be bounded from above by requiring tree-level unitarity. In this paper, we extend previous work on unitarity bounds from the Higgs cubic coupling to Higgs couplings to vector bosons and top quarks. We find that HL-LHC measurements of these couplings compatible with current experimental bounds may point to a scale that can be explored at the HL-LHC or a next-generation collider. Our approach is completely model-independent: we assume only that there are no light degrees of freedom below the scale of new physics, and allow arbitrary values for the infinitely many couplings beyond the SM as long as they are in agreement with current measurements. We tackle the issue of the factorial growth in the amplitudes of multi-Higgs production at high energy by developing a phenomenological approach based on the Higgs splitting functions and Sudakov factors. We utilize the method of generating functionals to define several jet observables for the Higgs sector. Our results suggest that pure Higgs splittings should retain a good UV behavior in contrast to the common picture represented by the breakdown of perturbation theory and violation of unitarity due to the high multiplicity of particles produced at or near threshold, which is found in scalar theories. We thus argue that the issue of the factorial growth in the amplitude of multi-Higgs production is probably associated with applying perturbation theory in a regime where it is no longer valid, as opposed to being a sign of new physics., Comment: 20 pages, 7 figures

I investigate a class of models with scalar and pseudoscalar solutions to the g-2 anomaly in the mass range between 1 MeV and 40 GeV. In particular, I investigate the constraints from BaBar, beam dump experiments and from Z decay measured quantities. I find that most of the favored region in this mass range is excluded except for a small window between ~30 MeV and 200 MeV. This open window is expected to be covered by the proposed NA64 experiment. The results can be readily applied to other proposed solutions of the anomaly, such as solutions with Z0 or with the dark photon., Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures

I generalize the Altarelli-Parisi approach to finding the QCD splitting functions to the case of 4-vertex interactions. I apply the results to the 4-gluon interaction and use them to define several jet observables. I estimate the correction associated with the 4-gluon interaction compared with QCD 3-vertex interactions, and find that such a correction can be significant, especially at low energies. For instance, it is estimated that at energy scales between 100 GeV and 1 TeV, the corrections associated with the 4-g vertex could range between ~ 6% - 10%, however, the correction becomes smaller at the TeV scale and 3-vertex interactions become significantly more dominant., Comment: The results are have errors. I study a class of Randall-Sundrum (RS) models with Spontaneous Breaking of Scale Invariance (SBSI). This class of models implements the Contino-Pomarol-Rattazzi (CPR) mechanism to achieve SBSI through the small running of an external close-to-marginal scale-breaking operator that leads to a light dilaton/radion with couplings to matter suppressed by the small running. I show that for radion masses $\lesssim 1$ KeV, it can serve as a Dark Matter (DM) candidate, with a lifetime longer than the age of the universe, and show that the experimental bounds from LHC, Non-Newtonian Gravity and Axion-Like Particle (ALP) searches allow for the existence of such a radion., Comment: 26 pages, 9 figures)

Inspired by the Contino-Pomarol-Rattazzi mechanism we explore scenarios with a very light (100 keV to 10 GeV) radion which could be associated with the suppression of the electroweak contribution to vacuum energy. We construct explicit, realistic models that realize this mechanism and explore the phenomenological constraints on this class of models. Compared with axion-like particles in this mass range, the bounds from SN 1987a and from cosmology can be much weaker, depending on the the mass of the radion and its coupling to other particles. We present a Randall-Sundrum toy model with an added scalar singlet that couples only to KK fermions in the bulk. Such a scalar would nontrivially affect radion phenomenology. In addition, we examine the radion phenomenology in light of the new scalar and show how this scalar could present another probe to search for the radion.
