1. Sharp estimates for the number of limit cycles in discontinuous generalized Li\'enard equations

Abstract

In this paper, we study the maximum number of limit cycles for the piecewise smooth system of differential equations $\dot{x}=y, \ \dot{y}=-x-\varepsilon \cdot (f(x)\cdot y +{\rm sgn}(y)\cdot g(x))$. Using the averaging method, we were able to generalize a previous result for Li\'enard systems. In our generalization, we consider $g$ as a polynomial of degree $m$. We conclude that for sufficiently small values of $|\epsilon|$, the number $\left[\frac{n}{2}\right]+\left[\frac{m}{2}\right]+1$ serves as a lower bound for the maximum number of limit cycles in this system, which bifurcates from the periodic orbits of the linear center $\dot{x}=y$, $\dot{y}=-x$. Abstract

The dynamic nature of the construction industry renders it inherently hazardous, leading to elevated rates of occupational injuries. Thus, it is imperative to explore diverse strategies aimed at mitigating these risks. One such approach is Behavior Based Safety (BBS), which targets the enhancement of safety performance by addressing the behaviors of construction workers. This study undertook a systematic literature review on BBS in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Through this research endeavor, the aim is to deepen the industry comprehension of the conceptual framework, operational mechanisms, and inherent limitations of BBS within the construction industry context. Exploring the intricacies of BBS offers valuable insights into its operational mechanisms and underlying principles within the construction context. The comprehensive review encompassed 14 scholarly articles published between 2010 and 2023, all cataloged within the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) or ScienceDirect databases. Findings from these studies shed light on the effectiveness of BBS and its inherent limitations when applied within construction environments. It becomes increasingly evident that prioritizing safety culture might supersede the sole reliance on BBS methodologies within the construction sector. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A versão para o português deste livro publicado na Argentina em 2010 materializa o crescente interesse na área dos estudos em Linguística Aplicada e em outras áreas das Ciências Humanas no Brasil pelas obras e autoras(es) que vêm teorizando o colonialismo na América Latina e a colonialidade dele resultante. Sílvia Rivera Cusicanqui, professora emérita da Universidad San Andrés, em La Paz, Bolívia, autoreferenciada Chi´xi e “sochóloga”, tem sido uma das principais referências ao erigir reflexões sobre práticas e discursos descolonizadores e, principalmente, ao expor formas de mobilizar elementos da história não escrita na academia. O trabalho com a memória empreendido pela autora transpõe as fronteiras acadêmicas e envolve a reapropriação de significações dos movimentos populares, reinscrevendo-as sobre o passado borrado pelas narrativas historiográficas oficiais.

Abstract

A pesquisa tem como objetivo apresentar as diferenças e as semelhanças encontradas entre quatro podcasts brasileiros sobre autismo — ABAcast, AspieGirl, AutismoCast e Introvertendo —, por meio de uma análise de conteúdo qualitativa. O projeto surge da observação de que existem aproximações entre o autismo e a comunicação como modos de construir sentido e de que, no âmbito da produção em podcasting, diferentes minorias e grupos segmentados têm se utilizado de podcasts como forma de expressão. Para isso, a análise de conteúdo, baseada em Sampaio e Lyncarião (2021), e em Schreier (2012), busca encontrar afirmações sobre o autismo, enquanto modo de vida, e afirmações sobre intervenções e terapias nos episódios em questão, buscando relacionar os diálogos com a literatura sobre o podcasting e os estudos críticos do autismo. Como resultado, a pesquisa constata que: nem autistas e nem profissionais se distanciam completamente de uma percepção do autismo baseada em manuais diagnósticos e em déficits; há uma heterogeneidade de experiências com o autismo conforme os tipos de produtores; a maior parte dos programas analisados estão inseridos em um contexto mais amador de produção; e que não é possível afirmar categoricamente se os episódios em questão ajudam a compreender o que é o autismo. This research aims to present the differences and similarities found between four Brazilian podcasts about autism — ABAcast, AspieGirl, AutismoCast and Introvertendo —, through a qualitative content analysis. The project arises from the observation about the existence of similarities between autism and communication, as ways of building meaning, and that, within the scope of podcast production, several minorities and segmented groups have been using podcasts as a form of expression. A content analysis was conducted, based on Sampaio and Lyncarião (2021), also based on Schreier (2012), to find statements about autism that could relate about this subject as a way of life and statements about interventions and therapies in the episodes in question, seeking to relate the dialogues with the literature on podcasting and the critical studies of autism. In conclusion, findings suggest that: neither autistic nor professionals completely distance themselves from a perception of autism based on diagnostic manuals and deficits; there’s a heterogeneity of experiences with autism according to the types of producers; most of the analyzed programs are part of a more amateur-type kind of production setup; and it’s not possible to categorically state whether the episodes in question help to understand what autism is.
