Abstract

The Zika virus (ZIKV) is a widespread mosquito-borne pathogen. Phylogenetically, two lineages of ZIKV are distinguished: African and Asian–American. The latter became the cause of the 2015–2016 pandemic, with severe consequences for newborns. In West African countries, the African lineage was found, but there is evidence of the emergence of the Asian–American lineage in Cape Verde and Angola. This highlights the need to not only monitor ZIKV but also sequence the isolates. In this article, we present a case report of Zika fever in a pregnant woman from Guinea identified in 2018. Viral RNA was detected through qRT-PCR in a serum sample. In addition, the seroconversion of anti-Zika IgM and IgG antibodies was detected in repeated blood samples. Subsequently, the virus was isolated from the C6/36 cell line. The detected ZIKV belonged to the African lineage, the Nigerian sublineage. The strains with the closest sequences were isolated from mosquitoes in Senegal in 2011 and 2015. In addition, we conducted the serological screening of 116 blood samples collected from patients presenting to the hospital of Faranah with fevers during the period 2018–2021. As a result, it was found that IgM-positive patients were identified each year and that the seroprevalence varied between 5.6% and 17.1%.

Abstract

Les bactéries sont à l’origine de réel problème de santé publique à cause de leur implication dans de nombreuses maladies. Leur résistance aux antibiotiques est devenue l’un des problèmes les plus importants dans la lutte contre les maladies infectieuses dans le monde. L’objectif de ce présent travail était de contribuer à la détection de la Shigellose au niveau de la population. Au total, 140 échantillons ont été collectés et examinés entre mai et août 2016 par la méthode de la Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Les résultats ont montré une contamination aux Shigella species et le taux de contamination varie selon les différentes sources d’eaux: 4 (2, 85%); 2 (50%), 1 (25%); 1 (25%), 1 (50%), 1 (25%); 100%; 100%; 1 (25%), 2 (50%), 1 (25%). Ces résultats sont analysés par la méthode statistique directe. Ces contaminations aux Shigella species pourraient être dues à une défaillance dans le respect des bonnes hygiènes et la mauvaise gestion de notre environnement. Par comparaison aux études antérieures, la qualité des différentes sources d’eaux s’est améliorée suite à l’assainissement opéré. Cette avancée doit être préservée à travers des actions de gestion durable des sources d’eaux. Bacteria are a real public health problem because of their involvement in many diseases. Their resistances to antibiotics have become one of the most important problems in the fight against infectious diseases in the world. The objective of this study was to contribute to the detection of Shigellosis at the population level. A total of 140 samples were collected and examined between May and August 2016 by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) method. The results showed contamination with Shigella species and the rate of contamination varied among the different water sources: 4 (2, 85%); 2 (50%), 1 (25%); 1 (25%), 1 (50%), 1 (25%); 100%; 100%; 1 (25%), 2 (50%), 1 (25%). These results are analyzed by the direct statistical method. These contaminations with Shigella species could be due to a failure in the respect of good hygiene and the bad management of our environment. Compared to previous studies, the quality of the various water sources have improved as a result of the sanitation work carried out. This progress must be preserved through sustainable management of the water sources.
