Introduction: Estimation of the maximum aerobic capacity to find a physiological fitness between worker and the work is of great importance. The purpose of this study was to estimate the highest aerobic capacity and physical work capacity of tile and ceramic workers. Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study, 90 workers were randomly selected from tile and ceramic workers in Yazd. A questionnaire consisting of two parts was used as data collection tool. The first part of the questionnaire included demographic characteristics completed by the interview. In the second part, parameters including height, weight, BMI and heart rate were inserted in the questionnaire. The Queen step test was used to measure the maximum aerobic capacity. The data were analyzed by SPSS software using Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests and Spearman,s test. Results: The maximum aerobic capacity in tile and ceramic workers was estimated to be 3.60±.0.03 L/m. The results showed that aerobic capacity was significantly correlated with weight and body mass index. Also, there was no significant relationship between aerobic capacity, smoking and exercise, and education, but there was a significant relationship between gob title and aerobic capacity. Conclusion: Weight, BMI and type of occupation affect the aerobic capacity of workers.

Introduction: Occupational Dermal exposure to Antineoplastic Drugs is the one of the most important routes in Healthcare staffs. Several antineoplastic drugs have been classified as carcinogens by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). Regards to this issue investigation on Dermal exposure to Antineplastic Drugs in healthcare staffs is nessessary. Method: In this Descriptive and correlational study, the use of DREAM method for Determination Dermal exposure in chemotherapy personnel was investigated in Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences and Health Services. By Assessment of probability and intensity Emisson exposure, Deposition exposour and transfer exposure for all of body parts calculated. Then potential and actual exposure calculated and Chemotherapy divisions Classificated based on they're DREAM average score, forthermore we assessment correlation between various dermal exposure scores and occupational and demographical parameters. Results: Maximum deposition dermal exposure (Mean=1.409 , SE=0.127) was for the Baghaeepour division staffs. Maximum Transfer dermal exposure (Mean=3.500 , SE=0) was for the Imam Hassan division staffs and Maximum Emmission dermal exposure(Mean=0.980 , SE=0.114) was for the Internal-1 division staffs. Respectively the Maximum potential and actual dermal exposure calculated (Mean= 5.133 , SE= 0) was for the Imam Hassan division staffs and (Mean= 1.164 , SE= 0.152) ) was for the Internal-1 division staffs. Conclusion: Depending on findings although DREAM is a time-consuming and has somewhat complicated calculations to be used as an daily assessment tool, It can be used as an effective tool For initial assessment of the skin exposure in working environments.

Background: Crystalline silica is one of the compounds used in different industries. One of the industries in which this compound is used is the tile industry that can cause disabling lung disease. The purpose of this study was to reduce and eliminate workplace air pollutants by Local Exhaust Ventilation system (LEVs). Methods: In this interventional-practical study, designing LEVs is accomplished according to the velocity pressure method balanced system design of the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and is performed in spray dryer hall in a tile factory. The studied population consisted of 22 workers selected randomly. After implementation, the LEVs efficiency was evaluated, both in terms of occupational health and fluid mechanics. In order to evaluate the system from the point of view of occupational health, the measurement of Crystalline silica, inhalable and total dust was done before and after installation of LEVs by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) 7601, 0600 and open face methods, respectively; also, to evaluate the system as to fluid mechanics, we measured the velocity and flow rate in some hoods and ducts. Results: Results showed that the obtained mean values of total, inhalable and silica dust after installation of LEVs had a statistically significant difference before the use of LEVs (p Conclusion: The performance of the ventilation system was in accordance with the values obtained in the design.

Background: Designing training aids for students to increase their practical capability and skills is done by using modern educational methods. The aim of this study was to design a simulator of airborne pollutants for measuring gases, vapors and particles in the lab for student training. Methods: The present study investigated different systems based on reviewing the literature of conducted research studies around the world. Then, designing the simulator system of the airborne pollutants was carried out after studying the capabilities of available systems, considering the viewpoints of experts and focusing on the aims of the study. Results: The designed chamber consisted of a main component which, in addition to some complexes such as the blowing system, the evacuation funnel, the warming chamber, and control box, made the production and simulation of the particle and gaseous pollutants feasible in different atmospheric conditions. Conclusions: The production and simulation of airborne pollutants in an experimental chamber under controlled conditions can facilitate the accomplishment of different assessments on pollutants. The designed device benefits both having a simple yet creative fabricated system and low manufacturing costs. Therefore, it can be used readily as a suitable device for extensive research on pollutants in the educational and research centers.

Introduction: work-related musculoskeletal complications are one of the causes of disability and risk factors such as manual handling and repetitive work can cause or exacerbate these disorders. Considering the fact that in the industry, people with a wide range of risk factors for these disorders and high mental health are facing, this study was designed to investigate the position of work posture and mental load and their relationship with the operating personnel of Sarcheshmeh copper. Method: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 220 individuals were selected randomly from a population of 800 people based on the demographic distribution of the units and the field study of the working areas. Data were collected using demographic, Nordic and NASA mental workload index and QEC software. SPSS software was used to analyze the data. Results: In this industry, due to the nature of work, the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders was high in at least one region of the subjects. Background: Epidemiological studies have shown a change in blood biochemical parameters due to short and long exposure to airborne particles. Long Exposure to airborne particles can increase the risk of blood lipid disorders through oxidative stress. Therefore, this study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between respiratory exposure with inhaled particles and blood lipid parameters in workers of a ceramic tile factory. Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, a sample size based on similar studies and Cochran formula, 128 healthy workers (77 exposed and 51 unexposed) were estimated in the age range of 24-40 years and randomly selected from among the factory workers. Sampling of the breathing region of all individuals was performed to determine the concentration of respirable particles based on the NIOSH_0600 method. Blood lipid parameters of people having cholesterol, triglyceride, HDL, and LDL were measured using standard methods. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 20 software. Results: The Mean of exposure to respirable particles in different units were 73.29 ± 7.75 mg / m3 and lower than standard (3 mg / m3). In this study, the levels of triglyceride and HDL were higher in the exposed group and the mean of these two parameters were statistically different. There was no correlation between lipid parameters and density of respirable particles and work experience (P value> 0.05); however, the body mass index had a positive correlation with cholesterol, triglyceride and HDL. Moreover, cholesterol and triglycerides showed a positive correlation with systolic hypertension. Conclusion: Exposure to particles has relationship with levels of lipid-related markers factors and can change the level of some of the lipid parameters. Therefore, protecting workers in units with high levels of dust and constant efforts to train and supervise workers to enhance safety and monitoring the proper and consistent use of these equipment is essential.

Abstract Background Sound is one of the most important work-related risk factors and most widespread physical factors threatening the health of workers. Almost one of the best ways to control the sound, is sound absorber. Due to the extensive entrance nano in various fields of science one their applications design and use sound-absorbing panels containing nanoparticles.The aim of this study to determine the sound absorption coefficient of nanocomposites, containing aluminum nanoparticles at different percentages. Methods This study had an experimental – Laboratory procedure. First of aluminum particles (100 nm), wood chips and glue polyvinyl acetate weight was measured the ratio of identified and wellmixed. In the next step, the obtained mixture is poured into the mold Heat resistant and transferred to 37 ° C. After the preparation ofmentionednanocomposites then sound absorption coefficient values were determined by acoustic impedance tube at four frequencies, 250, 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz. Results The Comparison between the sound absorption coefficient of four weight percentage (1, 2, 3 and 4% of 100nm-aluminum nanoparticles) of aluminum indicated thatthealuminum nanocomposite had the highest sound absorption coefficient of weight percentage 4% at frequencyof 2000 HZ. While theallweight percentagesaluminumnanocomposites was seen the lowest sound absorptioncoefficient at frequency of 500 Hz. Conclusion The results showed that the increasing of the percentage of aluminum nanoparticles led to increase of sound absorption coefficient and aluminum nanocomposite can be a good choice to reduce environmental and industrial noise.

Background: Nickel is a toxic metal used as a pigment in ceramics industries. The purpose of this study was to assess inhalation exposure to nickel in the breathing zone of glazers and non-exposed group of workers. We also compared pulmonary function between ceramic glazers and the non-exposed group. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 49 glazers and 55 office workers were investigated. Air sampling in the breathing zone of each glazer was taken on a cellulose ester membrane filter with 37-mm diameter. The samples were then analyzed by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). All the participants were required to fill out questionnaires on descriptive information. The parameters of pulmonary function were measured for both exposed and non-exposed participants. Results: The mean nickel concentration in the breathing zone of glazers was 0.09 mg/m3. Introduction: The aim of this study was recognition of ergonomic conditions in librarians of Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences, affiliated educational-research centers, and its relation with productivity. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the population included librarians working in Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences and affiliated educational-research centers. The research instrument consisted of two parts; Hersey and Goldsmith 26-item questionnaire to determine the productivity. Further, in order to evaluate the ergonomics conditions, a standard checklist was used. Results: Average scores of productivity and ergonomic conditions were 19.02 and 22.2, respectively. The highest and lowest average scores belonged to dimension workspace (5.56) and safety factors (0.94), respectively. Introduction: The aim of the present study was preparing polymeric materials and nanocomposites based on nanoparticles of zinc oxide in normal cases the coated with gelatin and comparing them in terms of sound transmission loss in different frequencies. Method: This study was an experimental one. The materials used in the current study were included zinc oxide nanoparticles, polymer polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and the gelatin. The steps of this study were conducted in two phases; the first phase included: making molds and producing nanocomposites and the second phase determining the sound transmission loss in nanocomposites. Results: Sound transmission loss conventional nanocomposites showed that the highest percentage of the weight in the first and second sound transmission loss in dB in 500 Hz was 4.34. While in the third weight the percent of the nanocomposites, the lowest transmission loss equaled to 0.80 dB at a frequency of 2000 Hz. The results of sound transmission loss in coated gelatin nanocomposites showed that the weight percentage of the first and second was the highest transmission loss equaled to 3.01 dB at a frequency of 500 Hz; and in the third weight percent, the lowest transmission loss equaled to 0.55 dB at a frequency of 2000 Hz, respectively. Conclusion: Comparing the sound transmission loss in nanocomposites zinc oxide and coated with gelatin normally suggests that the gelatine resulting in increased absorption and sound transmission loss is reduced.

Introduction: Noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is a major problem in industrialized and developing countries. Trend of industrialization and lack of proper protective equipment lead to an increased frequency of noise-related disorders especially NIHL. This study was conducted to investigate noise pollution and the frequency of NIHL in workers of one of the ceramic industries. Materials and Methods: In a descriptive cross-sectional study, 155 tile workers were studied in 2015. Mean of age and working experience in participants was 29.45± 6.8 and 5.3 ±3.65 years, respectively. Sound pressure level in different sections of ceramic industry were measured using Brüel & Kjær sound level meter. Pure tone audiometry of air conduction was performed in both ears at frequencies 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 kHz. Hearing threshold higher than 25 dB at different frequencies was defined as hearing loss. Results: Mean of hearing threshold was 20.06 ±7.64 dB in right ear and 17.46 ±8.7 dB in left ear. Total hearing threshold was 17.9 ±8.04 db. About 18.7% of subjects suffered from NIHL in the right ear and 10.3% in the left ear. A significant relationship was found between work experience, job, lack of using proper protective equipment and hearing loss. Conclusion: In conclusion, the rate of hearing loss among tile workers was high, hearing loss was more frequently seen in right ear than left ear.

Background & Objectives: Quality and effectiveness of safety systems are critical factors in achieving their goals. This study was aimed to represent a method for performance evaluation of safety systems by proactive indicators using different updated models in the field of safety which will be tested in a selected industry. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study. Proactive indicators used in this study were: Unsafe acts rate, Safety Climate, Accident Proneness, and Near-miss incident rate. The number of in 1473 safety climate questionnaires and 543 Accident Proneness questionnaires was completed. Results: The minimum and maximum safety climate score were 56.88 and 58.2, respectively, and the minimum and maximum scores of Accident Proneness were 98.2 and 140.7, respectively. The maximum number of Near-miss incident rate were 408 and the minimum of that was 196. The maximum number of unsafe acts rate was 43.8 percent and the minimum of that was 27.2 percent. In nine dimensions of Safety climate the eighth dimension (personal perception of risk) with the score of 4.07 has the lowest score and the fourth (laws and safety regulations) dimension with 8.05 has the highest score. According to expert opinions, the most important indicator in the assessment of safety performance was unsafe acts rate, while near-miss incident rate was the least important one. Conclusion: The results of this survey reveal that using proactive (Prospective) indicators could be an appropriate method in organizations safety performance evaluation.

Introduction The study aimed at measuring exhaled breath malondialdehyde (EBC-MDA) in workers exposed to dust containing silica and at its comparison with the non-exposed control group. Material and methods The cross sectional, case-control study (N = 50) was performed in a tile and ceramics production factory in Yazd, Iran. EBC-MDA was quantified in exhaled breath of the participants by a lab made breath sampler. Exposure intensity was measured according to the NIOSH 0600 method in selected homogeneous exposure groups. Additionally, spirometry test was conducted to investigate a correlation between EBC-MDA and spirometric findings in the exposed workers. Results There was no difference in the observed exposure intensities of silica containing dust in different units. However, “coating preparation” was the unit with the highest concentration of dust. Although, the level of EBC-MDA in the cases was slightly higher than in the controls, the difference was not statistically significant (U = 252, p = 0.464). A significant and positive correlation was found between dust exposure intensity in working units and the measured EBC-MDA of workers (r = 0.467, N = 25, p = 0.027). There were also no statistically significant differences among job categories in the exposed group for the values of FEV1% (F(3, 44) = 0.656, p = 0.584), FVC% (F(3, 44) = 1.417, p = 0.172), and FEV1/FVC% (F(3, 44) = 1.929, p = 0.139). Conclusions The results showed a significant correlation between respirable dust exposure intensity and the level of EBC-MDA of the exposed subjects. However, our results did not show a significant correlation between lung function decreases and EBC-MDA.

Background:Low back pain (LBP) is a common medical problem among nurses. A better understanding of nurses’ experiences about LBP may help to develop preventative approaches. The study aimed to explore risk perceptions of nonspecific LBP among nurses in Bandar Abbas City, southern Iran. Methods: This qualitative study conducted as directed content analysis in 2013. Private semi-structured interviews were conducted with a convenience sample of 30 nurses with minimum of 1-year working experience in hospital. The interview questions were based on perceived severity and vulnerability structures of Protection Motivation Theory. All interviews were transcribed and analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: Perceived Severity had the following sub-themes: developing disorders in one’s own life and profession, psychical and mental consequences, conflicts and problems in family life, and financial problems. Two sub-themes (problems and limitations in hospital’s working system, nature of nursing profession) were identified in relation to perceived vulnerability. Conclusion: Nurses reflected their concerns about the impact of LBP on their job security and their considerations about how their back pain might be interpreted by their employers and co-workers. Importance of transparent medical diagnostic procedure and clinical evidence to justify degree of LBP and its burden on the nurses’ performance was also addressed.

Abstract Background: Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX) are volatile organic compounds which their physical and chemical characteristics are similar. Evaporation of BTEX from gasoline in petrol station into the air causes gasoline station attendants expose to them. A new extraction method of volatile organic compounds is solid phase microextraction (SPME). The aim of this study is to optimize extraction conditions of BTEX from air samples and then determination of gasoline station air contamination with BTEX in Yazd. Material and Methods: In this study air samples were collected using Tedlar bags and then extracted and analyzed with SPME fiber and gas chromatography equipped with a flame ionization detector. Results: Our results indicate that PDMS/CAR has the best peak area in comparison with two other fibers The Optimized extraction and desorption times are estimated 3 and 1 minutes, respectively Mean concentration of benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylene in gas station’s air were 1932±807, 667±405, 148±89, 340±216 µg/m3 respectively. Conclusion: Benzene mean concentration is above threshold limit value (0.5PPM). Whereas, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene mean concentration are lower than threshold limit values.

Background: Cobalt is one of the most important constituent present in ceramic industries. Glazers are the relevant workers when they are producing blue colored ceramic, causing occupational exposure to such metal. Through this study, urinary cobalt was determined in glazers in a ceramic industry when they were producing blue-colored ceramic glazes.Methods: In this case-control study, spot urine samples were collected from 49 glazers at the start and end of work shifts (totally 98 samples) in 2011. Control group were well matched for age, height, and weight. A solid phase extraction system was used for separation and preconcentration of samples followed by analysis by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES).All participants filled out a self administered questionnaire comprises questions about duration of exposure, work shift, use of mask, skin dermatitis, kind of job, ventilation system, overtime work, age, weight, and height. The lung function tests were performed on each control and cobalt exposed subjects. Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to evaluate the obtained results.Results: Urinary levels of cobalt were significantly higher in the glazers compared to the control group. There were significant differences at urinary concentration of cobalt at the start and end of the work shift in glazers. Spirometric parameters were significantly lower in the glazers compared to the control group. Among the variables used in questionnaire the significant variables were dermatitis skin, mask, ventilation, and overtime work.Conclusion: This study verified existence of cobalt in the urine glazers, showing lower amount than the ACGIH standard.

Introduction: The carry of heavy backpacks by school children may be associated with several potential health consequences. The aim of this study was to determine the percentage of body weight represented by school backpacks and other related factors. Materials and Methods: The cross-sectional study has been done in eight primary schools in Yazd city in which a total of 783 students’ boys (217 subjects in boys’ private schools and 566 ones in boys' governmental schools), grades 1 to 5, were studied. Measures included body mass and school bag weight of students and then the relative backpack weight (RBW) was calculated as percentage of body weight. Results: The average backpack weight was 4.6 kg (range, 1.3 kg to 20.6 kg) and represented 12.9% (range, 5.5% to 37%) of the subjects’ body weights. In private schools, about 43.7% of the students carried backpacks weighing less than 10 percent, 38.4% between 10 – 14% and 17.9% of the students 15 percent or more of their body weights versus 66.2%, 23.5% and 10.3% in governmental schools, respectively. The majority of students carried their bags over one or two shoulders and only 4% used roller bags. The contents of backpacks were mainly text books, exercise books or test books. Conclusion: In conclusion the result of this study indicated that the students of private schools carried heavier backpacks than those of governmental ones and therefore it appears to be reasonable to lighten the load of backpacks and educate students for carrying correctly school backpacks.

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between chronic medical conditions and contribution in crashes among drivers. In this cross-sectional study, the populations were professional truck drivers. The numbers of 323 people were selected to participate in the study. All of information for this survey was gathered by self-repot questionnaire. Analyses were performed by binary Logistic Regression, Cochran's and Mantel-Haenszel statistics and chi-square test. There was not a significant relationship between drivers who reported that they had heart disease and involved in crashes with divers without cardiovascular disorders involved in accidents. Drivers involved in crashes were further possible to have diabetes mellitus and respiratory disorders compared with drivers not involved in crashes. Musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are of serious concern to many organizations, including health care centres. Low back pain (LBP) with no clinical cause is common in nurses. This study aimed to assess the prevalence rate of LBP in nurses. This descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out on a population of 351 nurses from educational hospitals of Yazd University of Medical Sciences; Yazd, Iran aged 20-45 years. Information on these potential risk factors for LBP was sought using a translated Nordic questionnaire. Two hundred sixty respondents (74.3%) reported experiencing pain at least in one of their nine body regions during last year. The highest prevalence of LBP was seen among nurses in orthopaedic surgery (80.6%), operation room (79.2%), neurology (75.3%) and general surgery (73.7%), emergency medicine (69.9%), paediatrics (59.2%), obstetrics and genecology (54.3%), internal medicine (52.7.5%), intensive care unit (51%), ENT (50.4%), and infectious disease (48%) sections, respectively. These findings suggest that hospitals should focus and attempt to improve the ergonomics of nursing activities. In addition, effective methods of implementing changes in work systems are needed.

Background: Cholesterol cleft granulomas with clusters of giant cells were noted to be a common feature of non-specific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP). Objective: This study aimed to define the cell populations involved in the granulomas. Methods: The granulomas of 16 patients with cryptogenic fibrosing alveolitis (five cases with the histological features ofNSIP, five with those ofUIP and six cases of respiratory bronchiolitis) were examined histologically and by the use of irnmuno- and lectin histochemical markers. Results: Granulomas were discrete, compact and present only in alveolar spaces. The adjacent int~rstitium usually showed fibrous thickening although granulomas were absent. The granulomas contained central clefts surrounded by mononuclear and multinucleated giant cells, both of which were CD68 positive. The cells outside the granulomas and those lining the adjacent alveolar walls were AE 11 AE3 and CAMS .2 positive and CD68 negative. The application of an extended lectin panel demonstrated restricted glycoprofiles for multinucleated cells, alveolar macrophages and alveolar lining cells. The glycoproflies of the first two were similar to each other, but were different from the third. Conclusion: The mononuclear and multinucleated cells of cholesterol cleft granulomas are derived from the macrophage-mononuclear cell lineage and express glycoproteins with a high mannose content. The alveolar lining cells are type II pneumocytes which do not contribute to the granuloma cell population.

Welders exposure to nickel and hexavalent chromium in welding fumes is associated with increase of cancer risk in welders. In this study we calculated cancer risk due to exposure to these compounds in welders.The role of exposure parameters in welders on derived incremental lifetime cancer risk were determined by stochastic modeling of cancer risk. Input parameters were determined by field investigation in Iranian welders in 2013 and literature review.The 90% upper band cancer risk due to hexavalent chromium and nickel exposure was in the range of 6.03E-03 to 2.12E-02 and 7.18E-03 to 2.61E-02 respectively.
