13. On-Line Classification of Excessive Neutral-to-Earth-Voltage (NTEV) Sources Using LabVIEW Software with Incorporating the Statistical-Based S-Transform and One-Versus-One SVM (OVO-SVM)

Abstract

The excessive Neutral-to-Earth-Voltage (NTEV) could lead to the unnecessary losses and safety hazard issue to the electrical consumer. Hence, it is a paramount need to mitigate the excessive NTEV from occurring in the system. In order to mitigate the excessive NTEV, it is very crucial to identify the source of this problem so that the proper mitigation technique can be deployed. One of the identifying approaches is by classifying the type of signal which is associated to excessive NTEV. In this paper, the propose classification technique is using Statistical-based S-transform and one-versus-one SVM (OVO-SVM) via the LabVIEW platform. In this case, the MathScript Node is utilized as an interactive interface in .m file commands with LabVIEW platform. As for SVM, different types of kernel function such as linear, gaussian, sigmoid, and polynomial have been used for performance evaluation comparison. The finding from this work indicates that OVO-SVM learning tool using Gaussian technique produced the highest classification of accuracy result.

Abstract

There are various factors that can cause the rise of Neutral-To-Ground Voltage (NTGV) in an educational building. However, based on the pattern of the recorded NTGV, it is difficult to identify the possible factors that contributed to the event. This situation could lead to the wrong decisions to mitigate the corresponding problem. Thus, the main objective of this paper is to verify the high NTGV events based on a model of the educational building's three-phase fourwire system. In this study, the developed educational building electrical network model is integrated with the model for events in a MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. According to the findings, high NTGV events in the building were caused by lightning and ground fault activities. This shows that the model is accurate and suitable to be used for analysing the high NTGV events in an educational building if they are detected. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Power disturbances monitoring is one of the important aspects on dealing power quality issue in electrical system. The aims of conducting monitoring process are to identify the real culprit which contribute to the Power Quality (PQ) problem. One of the vital steps during monitoring process is the classifying various type of power disturbance. This classification process is very important to give a right direction towards proposing the correct mitigation technique. In order to produce reliable classification technique, the devices which has a flexibility on accommodating the software and hardware part need to be deployed. The software is need for algorithm development such as signal processing, Artificial Intelligent (AI) as well as statistical analysis. On the hardware part, the device’s ability to acquire the electrical parameter within the electrical system operation is very important. The data acquisition based on the voltage and current is essential to be feed in the classification algorithm in software side. On the other hand, the interfacing devices and data acquisition module need to be developed at the hardware side, LabVIEW manage to accommodate both software and hardware need and further development of the LabVIEW for this purpose will be elaborated in this chapter.

Abstract

Dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) is a series active filter device that is used to protect sensitive loads from power quality issues such as voltage sag, swell, harmonics or disturbances. This implies that the DVR is capable to mitigate power quality disturbances at load terminal. Harmonic is a major power quality problem polluting distribution network causing the end-user equipment to fail operating due to the occurrence of disturbances in voltage, current or frequency. This paper discusses on the DVR used as the proposed technique to mitigate the voltage sag and swell in a distribution network connected with energy storage system and mini-hydro turbine system.

Abstract

This paper presents a post-fault tolerant analysis of symmetrical six-phase induction machines under one to three open circuit faults considering maximum torque and minimum loss for different neutral connections namely single isolated and two isolated neutrals. Post-fault performance is performed based on derating factor, minimum stator copper loss and minimum peak current. The rationality of the theoretical post-fault current limits are justified by the simulation result. Abstract

This paper was conducted to detect and classify the different power quality disturbance (PQD) using Half and One-Cycle Windowing Technique (WT) based on Continuous S-Transform (CST) and Neural Network (NN). The system using 14 bus bars based on IEEE standard had been designing using MATLAB©/Simulink to provide PQD data. The datum of PQD is analyzed by using WT based on CST to extract features and it characteristics. Besides, the study focused an important issue concerning the identification of PQD selection and detection, the feature and characteristics of two types of signals such as voltage sag and transient signal are obtained. After the feature extraction, the classified process had been done using NN to show the percentage of classification PQD either voltage sags or transients. The analysis show which selection of cycle for windowing technique can provide the smooth detection of PQD and the suitable characteristic to provide the highest percentage of classification of PQD.
