Las rizobacterias promotoras del crecimiento vegetal interactúan con distintos tratamientos o metales presentes en suelos enriquecidos con composta, que mejoran las condiciones del suelo y benefician al crecimiento de la planta. El objetivo fue analizar el desarrollo de Medicago sativa con rizobacterias en condiciones de estrés. Se germinaron semillas de alfalfa de dos variedades (Victoria y Aragón), inoculadas con dos rizobacterias; se trasplantaron en invernadero y se adicionó sulfato de cobre, composta, en dos tipos de suelo (regado con aguas residuales y aguas de pozo). El suelo residual presentó significancia en el número de hojas y altura de la planta, la variedad Victoria en el número de hojas, la cepa M40 en el diámetro del tallo y la composta con 37 g en longitud de raíz. El uso de rizobacterias asociadas a la raíz en combinación con composta y metales pesados permite desarrollar tecnologías con beneficios para la Medicago sativa.

Most of the farmers who grow cactus pear (Opuntia albicarpa) use manure as a fertilizer. This practice increases the problems of pests. The use of endomycorrhiza (Glomus intraradices) is almost unknown to farmers. Therefore, the objective of this research was to study the effect of the application with organic matter (OM) and inoculation with endomycorrhiza in cactus pear. The study was conducted under greenhouse conditions at the Montecillo Campus of the Postgraduate College, Mexico. Two types of soil from San Luis Potosí, Mexico were used, one of reddish coloration (xerosol) and another gray (lithosol). The results show that there were significant differences (p ≤ 0.05) in all the variables by the inoculation with endomycorrhiza, and in the majority of those by the application of OM. Both the mycorrhiza and the application of OM, as vermicompost, promoted a greater growth of the stem and the root. The types of soils used did not affect the growth of the plants. The mycorrhiza can be useful to improve mineral nutrition, and thus increase yields in the cactus pear plantations. In addition, these fungi can increase yields, and help reduce production costs. The application of 50 t ha-1 of vermicompost is a better alternative to add nutrients and OM to this crop.

Diaphorina citri se considera la plaga mas peligrosa de los citricos debido a que transmite a Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus, agente causal del Huanglongbing (HLB). Al igual que otros insectos hemipteros, D. citri ha desarrollado interacciones mutualistas con organismos procariontes conocidos como endosimbiontes. Esta simbiosis puede ser de tipo obligatoria, cuando la interaccion se da con un endosimbionte primario, o no obligatoria, cuando se trata de un endosimbionte secundario. La simbiosis es indispensable para diversas funciones fisiologicas, pero algunos endosimbiontes pueden afectar de manera adversa las capacidades del psilido. D. citri se asocia a una gran diversidad de endosimbiontes, en donde sobresale Candidatus Carsonella ruddii, Candidatus Profftella armatura, Candidatus Wolbachia spp. y Candidatus Liberibacter spp. El objetivo de la presente revision fue explorar la importancia y funcion de los endosimbiontes asociados a D. citri, asi como su papel en la transmision de Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus

El avance de la tecnología digital ha permitido concebir Sistemas de Vigilancia Epidemiológicos (SVE) automatizados con un enfoque holístico-sistémico favoreciendo la planeación, operación, gestión y procesamiento de datos fitosanitarios de manera efectiva y oportuna para toma de decisiones en la prevención y manejo regional de plagas. Este tipo de sistemas se enfocan en la salud del cultivo superando la visión reduccionista de plaga en la vigilancia normativa convencional. Un SVE web implica la definición clara del marco regional, objetivos, plaga(s) en su amplia acepción, recursos humanos/financieros, contexto normativo, líneas de investigación de soporte, estructura operativa y modelos de innovación. Estos elementos determinan la precisión, frecuencia y tipo de muestreo y monitoreo, así como las variables de medición relativas a un novel sistema epidemiológico. A diferencia de la vigilancia normativa, un SVE web holístico-sistémico tiene capacidad descriptiva y de pronóstico de riesgos, incluyendo alertas tempranas a partir de análisis espaciales y temporales. La interfaz web SVE asegura la generación flexible y dinámica de reportes y/o análisis automatizados. Un SVE operado en plataformas web, con énfasis en lenguajes de programación y herramientas de uso libre puede ser alojado en servidores genéricos o dedicados para almacenamiento de metadatos configurados con tecnologías Linux/Apache y funcionalidad 24/7 (h día-1). Programas de uso libre incluyen MySQL/MariaDB y otros como gestores de bases de datos; PHP / Node.js, y JavaScript, Ajax, HTML5 y CSS, como tecnologías web de maquetado base ‘back-end’ y ‘front-end’, respectivamente. Esta revisión se enfoca en principios, atributos conceptuales, enfoques metodológicos generales y objetivos de SVE base web. Aplicaciones generales se ilustran con un SVE desarrollado en México para el cafeto (Coffea spp.), el cual permitió operar la vigilancia de 19 plagas, nueve con estatus cuarentenario, mediante la generación, gestión y análisis de 87.4 y 15.7 millones de registros climáticos y epidemiológicos, respectivamente, obtenidos entre 2013-2019.

Fusarium kuroshium is the fungal symbiont associated with the ambrosia beetle Euwallacea kuroshio, a plague complex that attacks avocado, among other hosts, causing a disease named Fusarium dieback (FD). However, the contribution of F. kuroshium to the establishment of this disease remains unknown. To advance the understanding of F. kuroshium pathogenicity, we profiled its exo-metabolome through metabolomics tools based on accurate mass spectrometry. We found that F. kuroshium can produce several key metabolites with phytotoxicity properties and other compounds with unknown functions. Among the metabolites identified in the fungal exo-metabolome, fusaric acid (FA) was further studied due to its phytotoxicity and relevance as a virulence factor. We tested both FA and organic extracts from F. kuroshium at various dilutions in avocado foliar tissue and found that they caused necrosis and chlorosis, resembling symptoms similar to those observed in FD. This study reports for first-time insights regarding F. kuroshium associated with its virulence, which could lead to the potential development of diagnostic and management tools of FD disease and provides a basis for understanding the interaction of F. kuroshium with its host plants.

Due to the increasing interest and the importance of ambrosia beetles, particularly those in the tribe Xyleborini, we considered it necessary to update the distribution and host reports of the species in Mexico. In this paper we focus on new records of Xyleborini from states of Mexico. The information comes from the review of national and international entomological collections, as well as material collected in various states of Mexico. New state records are given for 22 species in seven genera. Three species are recorded from Mexico for the first time: Theoborus micarius (Wood), Xyleborus pubescens Zimmermann, and Xyleborus sparsipilosus Eggers; moreover, we include some new host plant records.

Citrus huanglongbing (HLB) is a devastating disease associated with Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus spp. (CLas), a bacterium restricted to the sieve tube system of the phloem that is transmitted by the psyllid vector, Diaphorina citri. In this study, the human antimicrobial peptides, lysozyme and β-defensin 2, were targeted to the vascular tissue of Mexican lime (Citrus x aurantifolia [Christm.] Swingle) by fusion to a phloem-restricted protein. Localized expression was achieved, via Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation of the stem, which led to protein expression and mobilization within the vascular tissue of heterotrophic tissues. HLB-infected plants were monitored for 360 days. Lower bacteria titers were observed in plants expressing either β-defensin 2, lysozyme, or the combination thereof, and these plants had increased photosynthesis, compared to untreated control trees. Thus, targeting of antimicrobial proteins to the vascular tissue was effective in decreasing CLas titer, and alleviating citrus greening symptoms. Based on these findings, this strategy could be used to effectively treat plants that are already infected with bacterial pathogens that reside in the phloem translocation stream.

La tribu Xyleborini (Curculionidae: Scolytinae) representa uno de los grupos mas importantes de coleopteros ambrosiales. En los ultimos anos ha generado un auge importante en todo el mundo, debido al impacto de algunas especies de importancia economica. Para el caso de Mexico, es necesario desarrollar las herramientas pertinentes para su correcta identificacion. En el presente trabajo se presenta una serie de claves ilustradas para hembras de generos y especies de la tribu Xyleborini presentes en Mexico. Se incluyen claves para hembras de 9 generos y 56 especies, asi como una diagnosis, la distribucion actual a nivel estatal en Mexico y una guia fotografica con los caracteres mas importantes de cada especie. Se incluyen 20 especies del genero Xyleborus Eichhoff, considerando a X. torquatus Eichhoff y X. vagabundus Schedl como especies distintas de X. volvulus (Fabricius). Xyleborus discretus Eggers se transfiere al genero Euwallacea Hopkins.

Bagrada hilaris Burmeister (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) is a pest of Palearctic origin. Its presence in the United States was first reported in 2008 and in Mexico in 2014; it affects brassica crops. There are practically no reports of natural enemies of B. hilaris in America. Entomopathogenic fungi are strong candidates for microbial control of this pest. Evaluating the susceptibility of this pest to fungi that are native to the region where they will be used is a sensible first step to finding candidate biological control agents. The aim of our research was to select potential microbial agents to control B. hilaris. Eleven isolates of Beauveria bassiana, Beauveria pseudobassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae, and Isaria fumosorosea were evaluated to determine the susceptibility of B. hilaris. Isolates of B. bassiana caused the highest mortality due to infection (100%) compared with the other isolates. The I. fumosorosea isolate caused the lowest percent mortality (56%). The two B. bassiana isolates Bb88 and AP3 were more virulent than M. anisopliae isolate Ma129. The sex of the insect had no effect on infection levels achieved by B. bassiana isolates Bb88 and AP3. The results of our study contribute valuable information for the development of fungal species with potential to manage B. hilaris populations. Field studies are the next step in order to develop these isolates as biological control agents of B. hilaris.

En la actualidad es de importancia estratégica contar con herramientas de diagnóstico rápido y preciso que permitan conocer si el material de interés está infectado con algún virus de importancia cuarentenaria o económica. Por tal motivo, en el presente trabajo se diseñó un par de oligonucleótidos específicos para la detección del ToBRFV por RT-PCR, considerando una región de la secuencia codificante de la RdRP localizada en el ORF1 y la metodología para detectarlo fue estandarizada. Adicionalmente, los amplicones fueron clonados y secuenciados, los productos fueron usados para predecir la relación evolutiva entre ToMMV, ToMV, TMV y ToBRFV por el método Maximum Likelihood. Los resultados indicaron que los oligonucleótidos diseñados en el presenté trabajo permiten la identificación de manera rápida y específica del ToBRFV.

Xylella fastidiosa es una bacteria Gram negativa que infecta plantaciones de vid (Vitis vinifera L.) en el municipio de Parras, Coahuila, México. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo identificar la subespecie de X. fastidiosa y determinar su asociación con diferentes especies de plantas cultivadas y silvestres en el municipio. Durante el verano y otoño de 2018 se obtuvieron, en dos predios del municipio de Parras, 83 muestras procedentes de árboles frutales (n = 36), incluyendo vid, árboles forestales (n = 4), plantas ornamentales (n = 2) y plantas silvestres (n = 41). Para la identificación de la bacteria se amplificaron por PCR secuencias parciales de los genes gyrB, HL y 16S rRNA, así como de los genes de mantenimiento (MLST) leuA, petC, malF, cysG, holC, nuoL y gltT, además del gen de adherencia a superficies pilU. La reconstrucción filogenética mostró que las secuencias amplificadas correspondieron a X. fastidiosa subsp. fastidiosa. El clado X. fastidiosa subsp. fastidiosa mostró que las secuencias concatenadas de los genes MLST se agruparon con las secuencias ST1, ST2 y ST3, y las del gen pilU con la secuencia ST1. Los resultados confirmaron la presencia de X. fastidiosa subsp. fastidiosa en las especies cultivadas de Carya sp., Cydonia sp., Ficus carica, Olea europaea y V. vinifera, y en las especies silvestres Celtis pallida, Baccharis sp., Phragmites sp. y Rubus sp. Sólo en Cydonia sp., O. europaea, Phragmites sp. y V. vinifera se registró síntoma de escaldadura en las hojas, característico de X. fastidiosa. Los resultados indican que en el municipio de Parras, Coahuila se presentan infecciones recurrentes que representan una fuente de inóculo de la bacteria para los viñedos, principal cultivo de la región. Este es el primer reporte de X. fastidiosa subsp. fastidiosa en Cydonia sp., la cual se propone como nuevo hospedante de la bacteria.

Los cicadelidos (Cicadellidae) se encuentran entre las plagas que afectan el cultivo de arandano (Vaccinium spp.) en el mundo. Causan danos por succion de nutrimentos, obstruccion del flujo vascular, y por la transmision de fitopatogenos causales de enfermedades. A pesar del dano potencial que pueden causar no hay reportes de su presencia en Mexico, lo cual es esencial para planear estrategias de manejo. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar las especies y abundancia estacional de los cicadelidos asociados a plantaciones comerciales de arandano, en Jalisco, Mexico. Los cicadelidos fueron colectados con trampas amarillas, cada dos semanas, en el periodo de abril de 2018 a abril de 2019. Se obtuvieron 6,236 especimenes que representan a ocho subfamilias, 21 tribus, 45 generos, y 40 especies de Cicadellidae. En subfamilias Deltocephalinae y Cicadellinae se concentro el mayor numero de especies. Empoasca aracoma, Dalbulus maidis, Scaphytopius nitridus, Agallia quadripunctata, Balclutha incisa, Graminella sonora, Xestocephalus desertorum, y Planicephalus flavicosta fueron las especies mas abundantes. La mayor abundancia de cicadelidos se registro en febrero - marzo y octubre - noviembre que coincide con los periodos de fructificacion y floracion. No hubo correlacion entre la densidad poblacional y los aspectos climaticos analizados, pero se observo una tendencia a una mayor densidad en los meses mas calidos y secos.

The large grain borer, Prostephanus truncatus Horn, is a primary insect pest that reduces the quality and yield potential of stored cacahuacintle maize (Zea mays L.) in Mexico. Using external morphology to determine the sex of adults of the species is difficult. Digital images of 103 P. truncatus adults were processed, and the body length, abdomen length, abdomen width, and distance between clypeal tubercles were recorded from least to greatest according to the distance between clypeal tubercles. The sex of 10 insects of each of small (81.768-109.202 µm), medium (124.896-127.325 µm), and large sizes (143.668-186.901 µm) (16 males and 14 females) was corroborated by extraction of the genitalia. The dimensions were related to the sex of the insect. All small-sized insects were males, the medium-size category had 60% females and 40% males, and the large-size category was 100% female. Females had significantly greater body length (F1,30 = 8.67, P = 0.0062), abdomen length (F1,30 = 10.32, P = 0.0031), abdomen width (F1,28 = 2.02, P = 0.1659), and the distance between clypeal tubercles (F1,30 = 45.66, P < 0.0001) than did males. This complements the precision by other authors who determined the sex of adults of P. truncatus.

Este trabajo tuvo la finalidad de investigar la presencia de fitoplasmas asociados a síntomas similares al HLB, enfermedad causada por CLas, con el propósito de optimizar los procesos de muestreo y diagnóstico en el marco de acciones fitosanitarias oficiales en la citricultura Mexicana. A partir de alertas de resultados negativos a CLas en árboles de Citrus spp con síntomas putativos de HLB se realizaron muestreos dirigidos en huertos comerciales y traspatios en Hidalgo, Colima, Puebla y Veracruz en 2012, 2013 y 2018. El ADN total se analizó por PCR con los iniciadores P1/P7 anidados con R16F2/R16R2 y D7f2/D7r2. La infección de CLas se determinó con los iniciadores A2/ J5. Se confirmó en México la presencia del Brazilian Huanglongbing disease-associated phytoplasma, miembro del grupo 16Sr IX, asociado a C. latifolia (NCBI, MK282760) y C. aurantifolia (NCBI, MK282761) induciendo síntomas similares pero contrastantes a los causados por CLas. Estos hospederos se reportan por primera vez en adición al original reporte en C. sinensis en Brasil. También se reporta a Bidens odorata y Cajanus cajan como probables hospederos arvenses alternos y la presencia de especímenes de Graphocephala y Acinopterus (Cicadellidae), géneros reconocidos con especies vectoras de fitoplasmas de los grupos 16Sr III-A y Aster Yellow, respectivamente.

A nivel mundial, la producción de jitomate y chile es de gran relevancia. Recientemente, en Israel y Jordania se notificó la presencia de un nuevo miembro del género Tobamovirus en plantaciones de jitomate, al cual se le llamó Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV). Los frutos de plantas infectadas manifiestan áreas amarillas, necróticas o de color marrón incluso rugosidades. En los municipios de Yurécuaro y Tanhuato, Michoacán, se han observado cultivos de jitomate y chile con síntomas similares a los antes mencionados por lo que, el objetivo del presente trabajo fue determinar si el ToBRFV se encuentra presente en estas localidades. Se colectó tejido foliar de jitomate con síntomas y se realizó RT-PCR con iniciadores que amplifican un segmento del ORF2 del genoma de este virus; además, se prepararon rejillas para su observación al microscopio electrónico de transmisión (MET). Se obtuvo el amplicón esperado y las secuencias tuvieron una similitud de 99 a 100 % con ToBRFV. Al MET se observaron partículas virales en forma de varilla rígida típicas de tobamovirus. Hasta donde sabemos este es el primer reporte de la presencia del ToBRFV asociado a plantas de jitomate y chile cultivados en México.

Background The Ambrosia Fusarium Clade phytopathogenic Fusarium fungi species have a symbiotic relationship with ambrosia beetles in the genus Euwallacea (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). Related beetle species referred to as Euwallacea sp. near fornicatus have been spread in California, USA and are recognized as the causal agents of Fusarium dieback, a disease that causes mortality of many plant species. Despite the importance of this fungi, no transcriptomic resources have been generated. The datasets described here represent the first ever transcripts available for these species. We focused our study on the isolated species of Fusarium that is associated with one of the cryptic species referred to as Kuroshio Shot Hole Borer (KSHB) Euwallacea sp. near fornicatus. Results Hydrogen concentration is a critical signal in fungi for growth and host colonization, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different pH conditions on growth and gene expression of the fungus Fusarium sp. associated with KSHB. An RNA-seq approach was used to compare the gene expression of the fungus grown for 2 weeks in liquid medium at three different pH levels (5.0, 6.0, and 7.0). An unbuffered treatment was included to evaluate the capability of the fungus to change the pH of its environment and the impact in gene expression. The results showed that the fungus can grow and modulate its genetic expression at different pH conditions; however, growth was stunted in acidic pH in comparison with neutral pH. The results showed a differential expression pattern in each pH condition even when acidic conditions prevailed at the end of the experiment. After comparing transcriptomics data from the three treatments, we found a total of 4,943 unique transcripts that were differentially expressed. Conclusions We identified transcripts related to pH signaling such as the conserved PAL/RIM pathway, some transcripts related to secondary metabolism and other transcripts that were differentially expressed. Our analysis suggests possible mechanisms involved in pathogenicity in this novel Fusarium species. This is the first report that shows transcriptomic data of this pathogen as well as the first report of genes and proteins involved in their metabolism identifying potential virulence factors. La papa (Solanum tuberosum L.) es uno de los cultivos de mayor consumo humano a nivel mundial. El cultivo es amenazado desde sus inicios por distintos organismos; algunos de ellos ocasionan daños superficiales en los tubérculos, que reducen la calidad y apariencia lo que provoca el rechazo por el consumidor. De un total de 34 muestras de tubérculos de papa destinados para consumo humano, obtenidas mediante muestreo visual dirigido, en la Central de Abastos de Ecatepec, se identificaron a los microorganismos asociados a algún daño físico o alteración superficial; además, de manchas atípicas en la superficie de tubérculos. Del total de las muestras en el 50% se identificaron a las bacterias Enterobacter aerogenes, Pseudomonas fluorescens y Streptomyces sp. En el 41% se identificaron a hongos y protozoarios como Fusarium oxysporum, F. solani, F. verticillioides, Rhizoctonia solani, Alternaria sp., Colletotrichum sp., Clonostachys sp., Geotrichum sp., y Spongospora subterranea f. sp. subterranea. Del 9% de las muestras restantes no se identificó ningún organismo relacionado al daño.

Here, we report the genome of Fusarium euwallaceae strain HFEW-16-IV-019, an isolate obtained from Kuroshio shot hole borer (a Euwallacea sp.). These beetles were collected in Tijuana, Mexico, from elm trees showing typical symptoms of Fusarium dieback. The final assembly consists of 287 scaffolds spanning 48,274,071 bp and 13,777 genes.

Exophthalmus cupreipes Champion (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) adult weevils were detected feeding on young leaves and shoots of Persian limes (Citrus latifolia [Tanaka ex Yu. Tanaka] Tanaka; Rutaceae) in commercial plantations in the states of Veracruz and Tabasco, Mexico. Weevil damage to foliage is apparently not significant enough to cause production losses. However, there are reports of related species included in the Exophthalmus genus complex that are considered primary pests of agriculturally important citruses. This study complements the original description by Champion (1911) for adults of both sexes, and provides images of external and internal structures useful for its identification. Moreover, field observations of damage on citrus are presented, and the potential importance as a pest is discussed.

The causal agents of Citrus leprosis are viruses; however, extant diagnostic methods to identify them have failed to detect known viruses in orange, mandarin, lime and bitter orange trees with severe leprosis symptoms in Mexico, an important citrus producer. Using high throughput sequencing, a virus associated with citrus leprosis was identified, belonging to the proposed Dichorhavirus genus. The virus was termed Citrus Necrotic Spot Virus (CNSV) and contains two negative-strand RNA components; virions accumulate in the cytoplasm and are associated with plasmodesmata—channels interconnecting neighboring cells—suggesting a mode of spread within the plant. The present study provides insights into the nature of this pathogen and the corresponding plant response, which is likely similar to other pathogens that do not spread systemically in plants.

The spotted wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii Matsumura, affects berry (Fragaria L., Rubus L., and Vaccinium L.) production and is under official mitigation and surveillance in Mexico. To obtain biological information about the pest, a sample of six adult males and six adult females from CNRF breeding (Colima, Mexico) was studied. PCR was used to amplify regions of the X chromosome. Six markers (FBgn0001083, FBgn0017651, FBgn0026206, FBgn0029789, FBgn0029997, and FBgn0030437) were identified and their sequences were processed with different bioinformatic systems to build a network of haplotypes associated with their geographical distribution. The sequenced markers had similarities with those from populations in the United States (Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, and Massachusetts) and Japan.

Resumen Los fitoplasmas son procariontes fitopatógenos de gran importancia, debido a que han sido relacionados con numerosas enfermedades alrededor del mundo. El objetivo de esta investigación fue dar a conocer los avances que se tienen sobre las características generales, el tamaño y composición del genoma y los genes y/o regiones empleados como marcadores moleculares para la identificación y caracterización de los fitoplasmas. Entre sus principales hospederos se encuentran los árboles frutales y maderables, hortalizas, flores de corte y malezas, en los cuales generan alteraciones en el equilibrio hormonal, produciendo síntomas como filodias y virescencias. Debido a que no ha sido posible su aislamiento in vitro, estos se han identificado, principalmente, mediante técnicas moleculares. Aunado a esto, el uso de la Secuenciación de Nueva Generación (NGS) ha permitido conocer el genoma completo de algunos fitoplasmas, así como las regiones y genes que lo constituyen. En la presente revisión bibliográfica, se recopila la información generada a partir de las técnicas moleculares y la secuenciación NGS, así como los oligonucleótidos reportados para identificar algunos grupos de fitoplasmas. Abstract Phytoplasmas are phytopathogenic prokaryotes of great importance because they have been linked to numerous diseases around the world. The aim of these research was to present the general characteristics, the size and composition of the genome and the genes and/or regions used as molecular markers for the identification and characterization of phytoplasmas. Among its main hosts are fruit and wood trees, vegetables, cut flowers and weeds, which generate alterations in the hormonal balance producing symptoms such as philodias and virescence. Because its isolation in vitro has not been possible, the detection and characterization has been carried out, mainly, with molecular techniques. In addition, the use of New Generation Sequencing (NGS) has allowed to know the complete genome of some phytoplasmas, as well as the regions and genes that constitute it. In the present bibliographic review, the information generated from the molecular techniques and NGS sequencing is compiled, as well as the primers reported to identify some groups of phytoplasmas.

Summary The 2 cryptic species of Euwallacea nr. fornicatus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) have more than 300 known hosts, of which avocado is the most important. Fusarium dieback, the fungal disease associated with these beetles, has killed some host plant species in Israel and the USA. Kuroshio shot hole borer, one of the 2 cryptic species, is reported for the first time in Baja California, Mexico, and represents a new threat to avocado and other potential hosts in urban and natural areas.
