As industries rely more and more on magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) systems for different uses in power, production, and management of the environment, it becomes essential to optimize these operations. The study seeks to improve the effectiveness and productivity of cooling structures, chemical reaction reactors, and contaminant control methods by investigating these intricate interconnections. Because of this, the work scrutinizes the endothermic/exothermic (EN/EX) chemical processes, convective boundary conditions, and pollutant concentration impacts on MHD nanofluid circulation around a rotating sphere. The governing equations based on the above assumptions are reduced into a system of ordinary differential equations and solved numerically with Runge–Kutta Fehlberg’s fourth- and fifth- order schemes. The obtained numerical outcomes from the numerical scheme are presented with the aid of graphs, and the results show that the rate of mass transfer decreases with an increase in the external pollutant local source and solid volume percentage. For changes in the values of the activation energy parameter and solid fraction, the rate of thermal dispersion drops for the EN case and upsurges for the EX case. The concentration profile shows increment with the addition of the external pollutant source variation parameter and local pollutant external source parameter. The outcomes of the present work can be helpful in cooling equipment, developing advanced methods for controlling pollution, environmental management, MHD generators, and various industrial contexts.

ROS1 rearrangements are considered rare in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This retrospective real-world study aimed to evaluate first-line treatment with crizotinib, a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) standard of care vs. new generation ROS1 anti-cancer agents. Forty-nine ROS1-expressing NSCLC patients, diagnosed with advanced metastatic disease, were included. Molecular profiling using either FISH/CISH or NGS was performed on tissue samples. Twenty-eight patients were treated with crizotinib, while fourteen patients were administered newer drugs (entrectinib, repotrectinib) and seven patients received platinum-doublet chemotherapy in a first-line setting. Overall response rate and disease control rate for the crizotinib and entrectinb/repotrectinib cohort were 68% and 82% vs. 86% and 93%, respectively. Median progression free survival was 1.6 years (95% CI 1.15–2.215) for the crizotinib treatment vs. 2.35 years for the entrectinib/repotrectinib cohort (95% CI 1.19–3.52). Central nervous system progression was noted in 20% and 25% of the crizotinib and entrectinib/repotrectinib cohorts, respectively. This multi-center study presents real-world treatment patterns of ROS1 NSCLC population, indicating that crizotinib exhibited comparable results to entrectinib/repotrectinib in a first-line setting, although both response rate and survival was numerically longer with treatment with newer agents.

Abstract This study delved into the dynamics of perceived challenges, adoption, and assessment of Western values of democracy and human rights among university students in Palestine, particularly in the aftermath of the 2023 War on Gaza. A mixed-methods strategy was used in the research, with a participant pool of 384 students representing a range of demographics. By exploring the impact of geopolitical events, the results revealed a positive link between perceived challenges and the assessment of Western values. Although there is a notable gender and geographic difference in the assessment and adoption of Western values, females and those living in cities and villages are shown to have greater perceived challenges with these values. The qualitative component, including interviews with 12 students, provided valuable insights into the postwar evolution of Palestinian perspectives, highlighting a notable shift in attitudes, initially characterized by belief in the superiority of Western values, followed by a decline in faith during the war. This decline is attributed to traumatic events, biased media narratives, and the contradiction between idealized standards and harsh realities. In conclusion, the study emphasizes the need for a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted influences on Palestinian perceptions of Western values.

Abstract This paper aims to estimate the permeability of concrete by replacing the laboratory tests with robust machine learning (ML)-based models. For this purpose, the potential of twelve well-known ML techniques was investigated in estimating the water penetration depth (WPD) of nano natural pozzolana (NNP)-reinforced concrete based on 840 data points. The preparation of concrete specimens was based on the different combinations of NNP content, water-to-cement (W/C) ratio, median particle size (MPS) of NNP, and curing time (CT). Comparing the results estimated by the ML models with the laboratory results revealed that the hist-gradient boosting regressor (HGBR) and K-nearest neighbors (KNN) algorithms were the most and least robust models to estimate the WPD of NNP-reinforced concrete, respectively. Both laboratory and ML results showed that the WPD of NNP-reinforced concrete decreased with the increase of the NNP content from 1 to 4%, the decrease of the W/C ratio and the MPS, and the increase of the CT. To further aid in the estimation of concrete’s WPD for engineering challenges, a graphical user interface for the ML-based models was developed. Proposing such a model may be effectively employed in the management of concrete quality.

Abstract Background Transportation plays a significant role in health, community resilience, and access to basic needs such as healthcare, social services, education, and job opportunities. Health and community resilience are, however, impacted by a multitude of complex and unequal factors, such as transportation restrictions exacerbated by the Israeli occupation. The goal of the research was to examine the intricate relationships that exist in Palestine between movement restrictions imposed by occupation, health outcomes, and community resilience. Method A self-structured questionnaire, devised based on expert conversations and previous literature, was used in this descriptive, quantitative study to explore health and resilience outcomes. Age, gender, marital status, place of residence, and means of transportation were among the various factors that were utilized to describe the socio-demographics of the study sample (n = 202). The researchers employed stepwise multiple regression and descriptive statistics for the data analysis. Results Study findings indicated that transportation restrictions have significant direct and indirect health consequences. A significant direct effect is observed, signifying a negative correlation between restrictions and health; increased transportation restrictions are consistently correlated with a decline in health. The study emphasized how place of residence affects health outcomes, with higher scores for campers and people living in green line areas. It also underscores that public means of transportation are found to be better for health outcomes than private cars. Conclusion This study emphasized that roadblocks, checkpoints, and military incursions make it difficult for Palestinians to receive medical care, which has a detrimental impact on their health and well-being. It also underscores the need for significant reforms in Palestinian health and transportation systems to enhance infrastructure and healthcare access. The Palestinian Authority should invest in public transportation and community resilience programs to address transportation-related health issues, especially in villages, due to frequent settler attacks.

Abstract Background Smoking remains the leading preventable cause of disease, disability, and death worldwide. Although physicians have high levels of health literacy with awareness of the consequences of smoking and their essential role in smoking cessation of patients, some physicians continue to smoke. Rates of smoking among Arab male physicians are high. This study aimed to gain insights into Arab male physician’s perceptions of their own smoking behaviors and their professional role in health promotion. Methods Using purposive sampling, we recruited 25 Arab male physicians working in hospital and community clinic settings who currently smoke. Semi-structured, hour-long, interviews were held during January—June 2022. We then performed a thematic analysis of the interview data. Results The analysis revealed three categories, two sub-categories, and 15 emerging themes. The category ‘Antecedents: prior to becoming a physician’ revealed the themes: smoking experience during adolescence; social and ethnic culture; stress during medical studies; and on & off periods of quitting smoking. The category ‘Physicians’ perception of smoking’ was sorted into two sub-categories: (1) Personal aspects, including the themes ‘relaxation from stress’, ‘self-compensation’, ‘addiction’, and ‘enjoyable experience’, and (2) Professional aspects, including the themes ‘lack of knowledge about cessation’, ‘inadequate workplace support’, ‘motivation to consult patients’, and ‘awareness of their role as primary care physicians’. The category’Impacts’ revealed the themes ‘personal health and well-being’, ‘professional competence’, and ‘professional image in public’. Conclusions This study provides an in-depth understanding of the personal, socio-cultural, and professional aspects of the phenomenon of Arab male smoking physicians from their perspective. Based on this information, we recommend developing programs that support and empower all physicians to cope better with their personal and professional stress as well as instituting programs that will provide all physicians with specific knowledge and skills related to smoking cessation. These programs should improve the ability of physicians to serve as positive role models for their patients for preventing and ceasing smoking, thus enhancing the image of the medical profession and, most importantly, improving the health of the public.

Abstract The river stage is certainly an important indicator of how the water level fluctuates overtime. Continuous control of the water stage can help build an early warning indicator of floods along rivers and streams. Hence, forecasting river stages up to several days in advance is very important and constitutes a challenging task. Over the past few decades, the use of machine learning paradigm to investigate complex hydrological systems has gained significant importance, and forecasting river stage is one of the promising areas of investigations. Traditional in situ measurements, which are sometime restricted by the existing of several handicaps especially in terms of regular access to any points alongside the streams and rivers, can be overpassed by the use of modeling approaches. For more accurate forecasting of river stages, we suggest a new modeling framework based on machine learning. A hybrid forecasting approach was developed by combining machine learning techniques, namely random forest regression (RFR), bootstrap aggregating (Bagging), adaptive boosting (AdaBoost), and artificial neural network (ANN), with empirical mode decomposition (EMD) to provide a robust forecasting model. The singles models were first applied using only the river stage data without preprocessing, and in the following step, the data were decomposed into several intrinsic mode functions (IMF), which were then used as new input variables. According to the obtained results, the proposed models showed improved results compared to the standard RFR without EMD for which, the error performances metrics were drastically reduced, and the correlation index was increased remarkably and great changes in models’ performances have taken place. The RFR_EMD, Bagging_EMD, and AdaBoost_EMD were less accurate than the ANN_EMD model, which had higher R≈0.974, NSE≈0.949, RMSE≈0.330 and MAE≈0.175 values. While the RFR_EMD and the Bagging_EMD were relatively equal and exhibited the same accuracies higher than the AdaBoost_EMD, the superiority of the ANN_EMD was obvious. The proposed model shows the potential for combining signal decomposition with machine learning, which can serve as a basis for new insights into river stage forecasting.

Abstract Nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) are vital for crop growth. However, most agricultural systems have limited inherent ability to supply N and P to crops. Biochars (BCs) are strongly advocated in agrosystems and are known to improve the availability of N and P in crops through different chemical transformations. Herein, a soil-biochar incubation experiment was carried out to investigate the transformations of N and P in two different textured soils, namely clay loam and loamy sand, on mixing with rice straw biochar (RSB) and acacia wood biochar (ACB) at each level (0, 0.5, and 1.0% w/w). Ammonium N (NH4-N) decreased continuously with the increasing incubation period. The ammonium N content disappeared rapidly in both the soils incubated with biochars compared to the unamended soil. RSB increased the nitrate N (NO3–N) content significantly compared to ACB for the entire study period in both texturally divergent soils. The nitrate N content increased with the enhanced biochar addition rate in clay loam soil until 15 days after incubation; however, it was reduced for the biochar addition rate of 1% compared to 0.5% at 30 and 60 days after incubation in loamy sand soil. With ACB, the net increase in nitrate N content with the biochar addition rate of 1% remained higher than the 0.5% rate for 60 days in clay loam and 30 days in loamy sand soil. The phosphorus content remained consistently higher in both the soils amended with two types of biochars till the completion of the experiment.

In recent years, nano-modified asphalt has gained significant attraction from researchers in the design of asphalt pavement fields. The recently discovered Titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2) are among the most exciting and promising nanomaterials. This study examines the effect of 1, 3, 5, and 7% of nano-TiO2 by weight of asphalt on some of its rheological and hardened properties. The experimental study included physical and rheological properties. The asphalt penetration, softening point, ductility, and rotational viscometer tests indicate that 5% nano-TiO2 is the ideal amount to be added to bitumen as a modifier. The study of the rotating viscosity test showed that the addition of nano-TiO2 helped to increase viscosity and lessen bituminous sensitivity. Rutting factor in terms of G*/sin δ indicated the addition of 3 to 7% of nano-TiO2 increased the rutting resistance of asphalt against higher temperatures and promoted performance grade by about one grade at 3% and two grades at a range of 5–7% this suggests that nano-TiO2 increased the stiffness of the asphalt and leading to enhance the rutting performance of asphalt. While fatigue parameter, G*.sin δ shows that as nanocontent increases, higher stiffness at 5 and 7% of TiO2 content leads to an increase in complex modulus and a decrease in fatigue parameter. Higher creep stiffness and higher m-values were noted at low temperatures as nano increases in asphalt binder, increasing stiffness and decreasing the m-value at −6 and 12°C. As a result, using 5% nano-TiO2 will improve asphalt’s physical properties and enhance asphalt anit-rutting and fatigue resistance.

The linker histone H1 C‐terminal domain (CTD) plays a pivotal role in chromatin condensation. De novo frameshift mutations within the CTD coding region of H1.4 have recently been reported to be associated with Rahman syndrome, a neurological disease that causes intellectual disability and overgrowth. To investigate the mechanisms and pathogenesis of Rahman syndrome, we developed a cellular model using murine embryonic stem cells (mESCs) and CRISPR/Cas9 genome engineering. Our engineered mES cells facilitate detailed investigations, such as H1‐4 dynamics, immunoprecipitation, and nuclear localization; in addition, we tagged the mutant H1‐4 with a photoactivatable GFP (PA‐GFP) and an HA tag to facilitate pulldown assays. We anticipate that these engineered cells could also be used for the development of a mouse model to study the in vivo role of the H1‐4 protein.

Internet of Things (IoT) technology has been widely adopted across various industries for remote decision-making, monitoring, and surveillance. The proliferation of IoT applications in sensitive sectors, such as national defense and security, has been driven by the ability to obtain in-depth information on ubiquitous occurrences. Conspicuously, the current research presents a comprehensive framework based on the IoT-empowered Digital Twin technology for assessing the national integrity of defense personnel. The primary objective is to identify the integral behavior of military personnel by securely tracking everyday activities. The proposed method demonstrated the ability to accurately analyze an individual’s anomalous occurrences in activities using a hybrid Convolution Neural Network with Gated Recurrent Units. Moreover, each personnel is mapped using a secure blockchain platform for acquiring social interactions and activities to identify potential threats to national security. The proposed model has been validated using challenging date sets obtained from public repositories. The computed results indicate that the proposed solution is successful in facilitating the development of high-quality defense services. The effectiveness of the suggested solution is evaluated using statistical metrics including vulnerable activity recognition (Precision 95.24%), model training and testing (Precision 95.24%, Recall (95.00%), and F-Measure 94.11%), latency rate (7.45 seconds), and data processing cost( $\theta $ ((n-1) logn)).

Magnetite and cobalt ferrite (CoFe2O4) nanoparticles are frequently utilized in several applications, including magnetic drug delivery, hyperthermia, magnetic resonance imaging, etc. In the current investigation, the magnetohydrodynamic three-dimensional heat transfer (HT) flow induced by a non-Newtonian Eyring–Powell fluid is incorporated by a carrier sodium alginate (NAC6H7O6)-based CoFe2O4 nanoparticles over a deformable (stretching/shrinking) horizontal plane surface with orthogonal shear stress and power-law velocity. The HT analysis along with the substantial effect of irregular heat source/sink as well as entropy generation is also performed. The similarity variables altered the posited leading equations into ordinary differential (similarity) equations. The function bvp4c in Matlab is then used to solve these equations numerically for various parameter values. Results indicate that, in general, there are two alternative solutions for the phenomenon of suction and deformable parameters. In addition, the essential thermal evaluation is enhanced owing to the significance of CoFe2O4 nanoparticles, magnetic parameter, and irregular heat source/sink.

This study included physicians, pharmacists, and nurses working in clinical settings and directly interacting with asthma patients in Jordan’s private and governmental healthcare facilities who were eligible to participate in this research. Three primary sections of an online survey were constructed using Google Forms and included demographic data, a diagnosis and management of the illness, and a list of worldwide medical references for asthma.Results: A total of 300 healthcare professionals, including pharmacists (103), nurses (87), Doctor of Pharmacy (28), and physicians (82), took part in this research. The survey respondents’ general knowledge of the nature and symptoms of asthma is quite high, exceeding 84% and 86%, respectively. The survey also showed a high degree of awareness of asthma diagnosis. It was also revealed that around one-quarter of participants consistently reported the severity of asthma. The most frequent factor influencing the decision to take controller or maintenance medicines is symptom severity (reported from 86% of participants). The GINA guidelines were selected as the asthma information source by almost half of the participants. Finally, 47% of participants were aware of the GINA’s 2019 adjustments of the recommendations.Conclusion: This study showed that Jordanian healthcare professionals understand the nature, symptoms, and diagnoses of asthma disease. However, many of the survey participants lack adherence, awareness, and understanding of the GINA recommendations about asthma management. More research is required to assess the adherence to the evidence-based recommendations and evaluate the impact of training courses.Keywords: adherence, asthma, GINA, healthcare, practitioners

Abstract In the context of degradation of soil health, environmental pollution, and yield stagnation in the rice–wheat system in the Indo-Gangetic Plains of South Asia, an experiment was established in split plot design to assess the long-term effect of crop residue management on productivity and phosphorus requirement of wheat in rice–wheat system. The experiment comprised of six crop residue management practices as the main treatment factor with three levels (0, 30 and 60 kg P2O5 ha–1) of phosphorus fertilizer as sub-treatments. Significant improvement in soil aggregation, bulk density, and infiltration rate was observed under residue management (retention/incorporation) treatments compared to residue removal or residue burning. Soil organic carbon (SOC), available nutrient content (N, P, and K), microbial count, and enzyme activities were also significantly higher in conservation tillage and residue-treated plots than without residue/burning treatments. The residue derived from both crops when was either retained/incorporated improved the soil organic carbon (0.80%) and resulted in a significant increase in SOC (73.9%) in the topsoil layer as compared to the conventional practice. The mean effect studies revealed that crop residue management practices and phosphorus levels significantly influenced wheat yield attributes and productivity. The higher grain yield of wheat was recorded in two treatments, i.e. the basal application of 60 kg P2O5 ha–1 without residue incorporation and the other with half the P-fertilizer (30 kg P2O5 ha–1) with rice residue only. The grain yield of wheat where the rice and wheat residue were either retained/incorporated without phosphorus application was at par with 30 and 60 kg P2O5ha–1. Phosphorus levels also significantly affected wheat productivity and available P content in the soil. Therefore, results suggested that crop residue retention following the conservation tillage approach improved the yield of wheat cultivated in the rice–wheat cropping system.

This study aimed to identify the obstacles that faced teaching swimming courses at Faculty of Physical Education and Sport Science at Hashemite University during Corona pandemic from the perspective of the students themselves The researchers used the descriptive approach for its suitability to the nature of the study and its objectives, where the questionnaire was used as a tool to obtain the study data after the researchers conducted validity and reliability transactions to ensure their safety and suitability for the current study،The results of the study indicated that the most important obstacles that faced teaching swimming courses at the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the Hashemite University during the Corona pandemic were arranged as following: Obstacles related to the electronic field, obstacles related to the academic field, obstacles related to the psychological field, Obstacles related to the economic field, and finally obstacles related to the social field؛The researchers recommend generalizing the results of this study to benefit from them in knowing the nature of the obstacles that students of practical courses faced, especially swimming during Corona pandemic

Biochar is increasingly gaining popularity due to its extensive recommendation as a potential solution for addressing the concerns of food security and climate change in agroecosystems, with biochar application for increased carbon sequestration, enhanced soil fertility, improved soil health, and increased crop yield and quality. There have been multiple studies on crop yield utilizing various biochar types and application amounts; however, none have focused on the influence of diverse biochar types at various pyrolysis temperatures with different application amounts and the integration of fertilizer regimes in maize crops. Therefore, a two-year factorial field experiment was designed in a temperate Himalayan region of India (THRI) to evaluate the residual effect of different biochar on maize yield under different pyrolysis temperatures, various application rates and fertilizer regimes. The study included three factors viz., amendment type (factor 1), rate of application (factor 2) and fertilizer regime (factor 3). Amendment type included 7 treatments: No biochar- control (A1), apple biochar @ 400 °C pyrolysis temperature (A2), apple biochar @ 600 °C pyrolysis temperature (A3), apple residue biomass (A4), dal weed biochar @ 400 °C pyrolysis temperature (A5), dal weed biochar @ 600 °C pyrolysis temperatures (A6), and dal weed residue biomass (A7). The rate of application included 3 levels: Low (L- 1 t ha−1), medium (M- 2 t ha−1), and high (H- 3 t ha−1). At the same time, the fertilizer regimes included 2 treatments: No fertilizer (N) and recommended dose of fertilizer (F). The results revealed that among the various amendment type, rate of application and fertilizer regimes, the A3 amendment, H rate of application and F fertilizer regime gave the best maize growth and productivity outcome. Results revealed that among the different pyrolyzed residues used, the A3 amendment had the highest plant height (293.87 cm), most kernels cob−1 (535.75), highest soil plant analysis development (SPAD) value (58.10), greatest cob length (27.36 cm), maximum cob girth (18.18 cm), highest grain cob yield (1.40 Mg ha−1), highest grain yield (4.78 Mg ha−1), higher test weight (305.42 gm), and highest stover yield (2.50 Mg ha−1). The maximum dry weight in maize and the number of cobs plant−1 were recorded with amendments A4 (14.11 Mg ha−1) and A6 (1.77), respectively. The comparatively 2nd year of biochar application than the 1st year, the H level of the rate of application than the L rate and the application and integration of the recommended dose of fertilizer in maize results in significantly higher values of growth and productivity in maize. Overall, these findings suggest that the apple biochar @ 600 °C pyrolysis temperature (A3) at a high application rate with the addition of the recommended dose of fertilizer is the optimal biochar for enhancing the growth and productivity of maize in the THRI.

Ovarian cancer (OC), the second most common form of gynecologic malignancy, has a poor prognosis and is often discovered in the late stages. Platinum-based chemotherapy is the first line of therapy. Nevertheless, treatment OC has proven challenging due to toxicity and the development of acquired resistance to therapy. Tumor microenvironment (TME) has been associated with platinum chemoresistance.Malignant ascites has been used as OC tumor microenvironment and its ability to induce platinum chemoresistance has been investigated.Our results suggest that exposure to OC ascites induces platinum chemoresistance in 11 of 13 cases (85 %) on OC cells. In contrast, 75 % of cirrhotic ascites (3 of 4) failed to confer platinum chemoresistance to OC cells. Cytokine array analysis revealed that IL -6 and to a lesser extent HGF were enriched in OC ascites, whereas IL -22 was enriched in cirrhotic ascites. Pharmaceutical inhibitors targeting the IL -6/ JAK pathway were mildly effective in overcoming platinum chemoresistance induced by malignant ascites. In contrast, crizotinib, an HGF/c- MET inhibitor, and 2-hydroxyestradiol (2HE2) were effective in restoring platinum chemosensitivity to OC.Our results demonstrate the importance of OC ascites in supporting platinum chemoresistance and the potential of combination therapy to restore chemosensitivity of OC cells.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of dementia worldwide. Fifty million people today are affected by this disease globally. AD has had a tremendous impact on the affected individual, caregiver, and society, in both developed and developing nations. Donepezil—chitosan-gold nanocomposite (Donz-CS-AuNPs) was prepared by co-precipitation technique. Placket-Burman experimental design was used in this work to estimate the effect of the three independent variables (concentration of chitosan, gold, and donepezil) on the dependent variables (loading efficiency, and particle size) by using Minitab 18.1 software. The quantities for the independent variables used were: 10 and 40 mg of donepezil, 24.6 and 73.8 mg of gold, and 500 and 1500 mg of chitosan. The Donz-CS-AuNPs were characterized using energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), UV-Vis spectroscopy and release study. The results of EDX showed strong signals of Au (1.5–2, 2–2.5 and 9.5–10 keV), which confirmed the specific gold peaks from the Donz-CS-AuNPs. The XRD pattern of Donz-CS-AuNPs nanocomposites showed the existence of AuNPs peak at 2θ= 38.2°, 43.8° and 64.5°. The SEM images demonstrated spherical shapes of the AuNPs. In the in vitro release study, the release increased steeply and reached 75% after 1440 min.

Background: Fish producers in Iraq currently facing large and growing problems, represented by the difficulty of getting rid of large numbers of dead fish as a result of mass phenomenon mortality since 2018. As their treatment and disposal has become very cumbersome and costly, and leaving it to wild animals and natural forces is unacceptable, so most of them resort to the composting method because it's a simple, easy, and inexpensive process, and benefits outputs, but it takes a long time. Aim: The study aimed to compare two different composting methods for the disposal of dead fish, one of them includes the use of lactic acid bacilli (LAB) to improve composting efficiency. Methods: Sawdust, hay, one-inch perforated plastic tubes, plastic covers, and dead fish were used to make four equal composting piles, two of them were treated with LAB, and others were left to compost naturally, the composted content was daily tested physically for color, odors, pH estimation, and LAB count. Results: The results showed that there are significant differences between normal composed and LAB treated groups in duration, and efficiency, the total threshold limits of temperature, pH, and LAB count were 60 ± 8 0C, 6.7 ± 0.04 and 10.8×106 ± 1.96 CFU/g, respectively, in normal composting groups, while they were 70 ± 2.8 0C, 4.26±0.01, and 23.2×106 ±1.34 CFU/g, respectively, with total decomposition and disintegration of fish carcasses through 31 days in EM treated groups. Conclusion: We concluded that the using of LAB in composted materials led to a quick and efficient composting process in terms of heat, pH, LAB count, total disintegration speed, and the ability of biosafety. Crop residue management and water saving are the two major issues for the sustainability of the rice-wheat cropping system. Therefore, a two-year field experiment was conducted in a split-plot design to study the combined effect of three rice residues (residue incorporation (RI), residue standing (RS) and residue removal (RR) and two wheat residue incorporation (WI) and residue removal (WR) management in main plots and two irrigation regimes, i.e., flood (F) and surface drip (SD) in subplots on the growth and water productivity of direct seeded rice (DSR). During both years, RI-WI resulted in significantly higher plant height (PH), leaf area index (LAI) and dry matter accumulation (DMA) than in other residue management treatments. Drip irrigation significantly increased PH, LAI, DMA grain yield, straw, and biological yield, along with a 9.6% irrigation water savings over flood irrigation. During both years, grain yield, straw and biological yield of DSR were significantly higher in RI-WI than in RR-WR and RR-WI. RI-WI had significantly greater apparent water productivity (AWP) and actual water productivity (RWP) of DSR. Drip irrigation had significantly higher AWP and RWP during both years than flood irrigation except RWP during 2017. Transpiration efficiency (TE) in rice residue incorporation was significantly higher than in rice residue standing and removal. During both years, the TE of drip irrigation was also significantly higher than flood irrigation. So, incorporating rice and wheat residues along with drip irrigation improves crop growth and water productivity.

In this article, we used some methods to solve Riemann-type fractional difference equations. Firstly, we use a method that is a composite method based on the successive approximation method with the Sumudu transform. Secondly, we use a method that is a composite method that consists of the homotopic perturbation method with the Sumudu transform. It was found that the results obtained from these combined methods are identical when compared. We also provided theories and illustrative examples to support the research findings.

Chemoresistance is a major obstacle in cancer treatment, often leading to disease progression and poor outcomes. It arises through various mechanisms such as genetic mutations, drug efflux pumps, enhanced DNA repair, and changes in the tumor microenvironment. These processes allow cancer cells to survive despite chemotherapy, underscoring the need for new strategies to overcome resistance and improve treatment efficacy. Crizotinib, a first-generation multi-target kinase inhibitor, is approved by the FDA for the treatment of ALK-positive or ROS1-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), refractory inflammatory (ALK)-positive myofibroblastic tumors (IMTs) and relapsed/refractory ALK-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). Crizotinib exists in two enantiomeric forms: (R)-crizotinib and its mirror image, (S)-crizotinib. It is assumed that the R-isomer is responsible for the carrying out various processes reviewed here The S-isomer, on the other hand, shows a strong inhibition of MTH1, an enzyme important for DNA repair mechanisms. Studies have shown that crizotinib is an effective multi-kinase inhibitor targeting various kinases such as c-Met, native/T315I Bcr/Abl, and JAK2. Its mechanism of action involves the competitive inhibition of ATP binding and allosteric inhibition, particularly at Bcr/Abl. Crizotinib showed synergistic effects when combined with the poly ADP ribose polymerase inhibitor (PARP), especially in ovarian cancer harboring BRCA gene mutations. In addition, crizotinib targets a critical vulnerability in many p53-mutated cancers. Unlike its wild-type counterpart, the p53 mutant promotes cancer cell survival. Crizotinib can cause the degradation of the p53 mutant, sensitizing these cancer cells to DNA-damaging substances and triggering apoptosis. Interestingly, other reports demonstrated that crizotinib exhibits anti-bacterial activity, targeting Gram-positive bacteria. Also, it is active against drug-resistant strains. In summary, crizotinib exerts anti-tumor effects through several mechanisms, including the inhibition of kinases and the restoration of drug sensitivity. The potential of crizotinib in combination therapies is emphasized, particularly in cancers with a high prevalence of the p53 mutant, such as triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC).

Abstract The design and selection of ideal emitter discharge rates can be aided by accurate information regarding the wetted soil pattern under surface drip irrigation. The current field investigation was conducted in an apple orchard in SKUAST- Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir, a Union Territory of India, during 2017–2019. The objective of the experiment was to examine the movement of moisture over time and assess the extent of wetting in both horizontal and vertical directions under point source drip irrigation with discharge rates of 2, 4, and 8 L h−1. At 30, 60, and 120 min since the beginning of irrigation, a soil pit was dug across the length of the wetted area on the surface in order to measure the wetting pattern. For measuring the soil moisture movement and wetted soil width and depth, three replicas of soil samples were collected according to the treatment and the average value were considered. As a result, 54 different experiments were conducted, resulting in the digging of pits [3 emitter discharge rates × 3 application times × 3 replications × 2 (after application and 24 after application)]. This study utilized the Drip-Irriwater model to evaluate and validate the accuracy of predictions of wetting fronts and soil moisture dynamics in both orientations. Results showed that the modeled values were very close to the actual field values, with a mean absolute error of 0.018, a mean bias error of 0.0005, a mean absolute percentage error of 7.3, a root mean square error of 0.023, a Pearson coefficient of 0.951, a coefficient of correlation of 0.918, and a Nash–Sutcliffe model efficiency coefficient of 0.887. The wetted width just after irrigation was measured at 14.65, 16.65, and 20.62 cm; 16.20, 20.25, and 23.90 cm; and 20.00, 24.50, and 28.81 cm in 2, 4, and 8 L h−1 , at 30, 60, and 120 min, respectively, while the wetted depth was observed 13.10, 16.20, and 20.44 cm; 15.10, 21.50, and 26.00 cm; 19.40, 25.00, and 31.00 cm, respectively. As the flow rate from the emitter increased, the amount of moisture dissemination grew (both immediately and 24 h after irrigation). The soil moisture contents were observed 0.4300, 0.3808, 0.2298, 0.1604, and 0.1600 cm3 cm−3 just after irrigation in 2 L h−1 while 0.4300, 0.3841, 0.2385, 0.1607, and 0.1600 cm3 cm−3 were in 4 L h−1 and 0.4300, 0.3852, 0.2417, 0.1608, and 0.1600 cm3 cm−3 were in 8 L h−1 at 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 cm soil depth in 30 min of application time. Similar distinct increments were found in 60, and 120 min of irrigation. The findings suggest that this simple model, which only requires soil, irrigation, and simulation parameters, is a valuable and practical tool for irrigation design. It provides information on soil wetting patterns and soil moisture distribution under a single emitter, which is important for effectively planning and designing a drip irrigation system. Investigating soil wetting patterns and moisture redistribution in the soil profile under point source drip irrigation helps promote efficient planning and design of a drip irrigation system.

Recently, many enterprising attempts have been made to create more sustainable cement mortar mixes using modern technologies. Modified mixtures are a promising part of green infrastructure, which contributes to reducing environmental impact and cost. Determining the properties of modified cement mortar using Al Juss binder (JB) is the focus of this study. JB is a locally made binder from heated white stone (gypsum stone) near the Deir Ezzor region, Syria. The cement, which is the main element in the cement mortar, is replaced with different JB ratios of 0%, 10%, 25%, 50 and 75% of total cement weight. The results revealed that the compressive strength at 28 days of age of 10% JB-mortar was 26.5 MPa, matches type M-mortar (20 MPa), and 25% JB can be used in type S-mortar. As a result, it has been confirmed that cement-JB mixture mortars containing 10% or 25% of JB do not meet the properties achieved by control cement mortars. However, they possess acceptable properties such as compressive and flexural strength, initial and final setting time, and expansion value of the cement.

Objectives The present study aimed to establish appropriate quality standards for emergency departments (EDQS) in Palestine.Methods The study comprised four phases. First, a comprehensive literature review was conducted to develop a framework for assessing healthcare services in EDs. Second, the initial set of EDQS was developed based on the review findings. Third, local experts provided feedback on the EDQS, suggesting additional standards, and giving recommendations. This feedback was analysed to create a preliminary set of EDQS. Finally, an expanded group of local emergency care experts evaluated the preliminary set, providing feedback on content and structure to contribute to the final set of EDQS.Findings We identified quality domains in EDs and categorised them into clinical and administrative pathways. The clinical pathway comprises 39 standards across 7 subdomains: triage, treatment, transportation, medication safety, patient flow and medical diagnostic services. Expert consensus was achieved on 87.5% of these standards. The administrative domain includes 64 consensus-based standards across 9 subdomains: documentation, information management systems, access-location, design, leadership, management, workforce staffing, training, equipment, supplies, capacity-resuscitation rooms, resources for a safe working environment, performance indicators and patient safety-infection prevention and control programmes.Conclusion This study employed a rigorous approach to identify QS for EDs in Palestine. The multiphase consensus process ensured the appropriateness of the developed EDQS. Inclusion of diverse perspectives enriched the content. Future studies will validate and refine the standards based on feedback. The EDQS has potential to enhance emergency care in Palestine and serve as a model for other regions facing similar challenges.

IntroductionImmune checkpoint inhibitors have made a paradigm shift in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, clinical response varies widely and robust predictive biomarkers for patient stratification are lacking. Here, we characterize early on-treatment proteomic changes in blood plasma to gain a better understanding of treatment response and resistance.MethodsPre-treatment (T0) and on-treatment (T1) plasma samples were collected from 225 NSCLC patients receiving PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitor-based regimens. Plasma was profiled using aptamer-based technology to quantify approximately 7000 plasma proteins per sample. Proteins displaying significant fold changes (T1:T0) were analyzed further to identify associations with clinical outcomes using clinical benefit and overall survival as endpoints. Bioinformatic analyses of upregulated proteins were performed to determine potential cell origins and enriched biological processes.ResultsThe levels of 142 proteins were significantly increased in the plasma of NSCLC patients following ICI-based treatments. Soluble PD-1 exhibited the highest increase, with a positive correlation to tumor PD-L1 status, and, in the ICI monotherapy dataset, an association with improved overall survival. Bioinformatic analysis of the ICI monotherapy dataset revealed a set of 30 upregulated proteins that formed a single, highly interconnected network, including CD8A connected to ten other proteins, suggestive of T cell activation during ICI treatment. Notably, the T cell-related network was detected regardless of clinical benefit. Lastly, circulating proteins of alveolar origin were identified as potential biomarkers of limited clinical benefit, possibly due to a link with cellular stress and lung damage.ConclusionsOur study provides insights into the biological processes activated during ICI-based therapy, highlighting the potential of plasma proteomics to identify mechanisms of therapy resistance and biomarkers for outcome.

Abstract Objectives To examine the feasibility of individuals with spinal cord injury or disease (SCI/D) to perform combined oropharyngeal and respiratory muscle training (RMT) and determine its impact on their respiratory function. Methods A prospective study at a single Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center. Inclusion criteria included: 1) Veterans with chronic SCI/D (>6 months postinjury and American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) classification A–D) and 2) evidence of OSA by apnea‐hypopnea index (AHI ≥5 events/h). Eligible participants were randomly assigned to either an experimental (exercise) group that involved performing daily inspiratory, expiratory (using POWERbreathe and Expiratory Muscle Strength Trainer 150 devices, respectively), and tongue strengthening exercises or a control (sham) group that involved using a sham device, for a 3‐month period. Spirometry, maximal expiratory pressure (MEP), maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP), polysomnography, and sleep questionnaires were assessed at baseline and at 3 months. Robust food systems are crucial for ensuring access to affordable and nutritious food, particularly in times of crisis. Economic instability, currency devaluation, and political turmoil can disrupt food systems, leading to higher food prices, compromised nutrition, and increased vulnerability. Lebanon is a stark example of this, where a catastrophic explosion in Beirut’s Port in 2020 worsened an existing economic and humanitarian crisis. The depreciation of the Lebanese currency led to soaring food prices, impacting people’s ability to buy food, and pushing many into poverty, illustrating the significant impact of the state food systems during crises (FAO, 2021). In times of crisis, a simplified food system, relying on emergency food aid supplies, replaces conventional food system, as food aid and cash transfers become the primary source upon which the affected population depends to ensure their food security and meet their essential needs. In this article we report on research conducted between 2020 and 2022 focusing on the impacts of the Beirut explosion on food security status of the permanent residents the Karantina neighborhood—the closest residential area to the Beirut port. We surveyed 100 households chosen at random, examining shifts in food security and nutrition at three intervals: 6 months prior to the explosion, 6 months following it, and 2 years after the event. The findings revealed a sharp decline in food security and diet quality among residents in the two-year period following the explosion. The proportion of food-secure households fell from 71% to 2%, while those with acceptable food consumption decreased from 96% to 30%. Additionally, income and debt situations worsened significantly. Almost 95% of residents resorted to crisis coping strategies, such as using savings, borrowing money for food, selling furniture, withdrawing children from school, and reducing education and health expenses, rendering them highly vulnerable. Food and cash assistance were provided to all households for 6 months to one-year post-explosion, resulting in improved food security and consumption after 6 months. However, these gains diminished 2 years later, once the assistance ended, revealing a lack of resilience in the food system. In conclusion, soon after the assistance stopped, the prolonged deterioration of Lebanon’s economic situation, compounded by multiple crises, pushed these households further into poverty, exacerbating food insecurity. This research underscores the critical importance of sustained support and comprehensive economic reforms to rebuild food systems and promote nutrition resilience in crisis-affected regions.

Summary: Long interspersed nuclear element-1 (L1 or LINE-1) is a highly abundant mobile genetic element in both humans and mice, comprising almost 20% of each genome. L1s are silenced by several mechanisms, as their uncontrolled expression has the potential to induce genomic instability. However, L1s are paradoxically expressed at high levels in differentiating neural progenitor cells. Using in vitro and in vivo techniques to modulate L1 expression, we report that L1s play a critical role in both human and mouse brain development by regulating the rate of neural differentiation in a reverse-transcription-independent manner.

Perineural invasion (PNI) is defined as the dissemination of neoplastic cells within the perineural space. PNI can be a strong indicator of malignancy and is linked to poor prognosis and adverse outcomes in various malignant neoplasms; nevertheless, it can also be seen in benign pathologic conditions. In this review article, we discuss various signaling pathways and neurotrophic factors implicated in the development and progression of PNI. We also describe the methodology, benefits, and limitations of different in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo models of PNI. The spectrum of presentation for PNI can range from diffuse spread within large nerves (“named” nerves) all the way through localized spread into unnamed microscopic nerves. Therefore, the clinical significance of PNI is related to its extent rather than its mere presence or absence. In this article, we discuss the guidelines for the identification and quantification of PNI in different malignant neoplasms based on the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations. We also describe benign pathologic conditions and neoplasms demonstrating PNI and potential mimics of PNI. Finally, we explore avenues for the future development of targeted therapy options via modulation of signaling pathways involved in PNI.

Abstract Background Older primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) patients have an inferior prognosis compared to younger patients because available evidence on best treatment is scarce and treatment delivery is challenging due to comorbidities and reduced performance status. High-dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplantation (HCT-ASCT) after high-dose methotrexate (MTX)-based immuno-chemotherapy has become an increasingly used treatment approach in eligible elderly PCNSL patients with promising feasibility and efficacy, but has not been compared with conventional chemotherapy approaches. In addition, eligibility for HCT-ASCT in elderly PCNSL is not well defined. Geriatric assessment (GA) may be helpful in selecting patients for the best individual treatment choice, but no standardized GA exists to date. A randomized controlled trial, incorporating a GA and comparing age-adapted HCT-ASCT treatment with conventional chemotherapy is needed. Methods This open-label, multicenter, randomized phase III trial with two parallel arms will recruit 310 patients with newly diagnosed PCNSL > 65 years of age in 40 centers in Germany and Austria. The primary objective is to demonstrate that intensified chemotherapy followed by consolidating HCT-ASCT is superior to conventional chemotherapy with rituximab, MTX, procarbazine (R-MP) followed by maintenance with procarbazine in terms of progression free survival (PFS). Secondary endpoints include overall survival (OS), event free survival (EFS), (neuro-)toxicity and quality of life (QoL). GA will be conducted at specific time points during the course of the study. All patients will be treated with a pre-phase rituximab-MTX (R-MTX) cycle followed by re-assessment of transplant eligibility. Patients judged transplant eligible will be randomized (1:1). Patients in arm A will be treated with 3 cycles of R-MP followed by maintenance therapy with procarbazine for 6 months. Patients in arm B will be treated with 2 cycles of MARTA (R-MTX/AraC) followed by busulfan- and thiotepa-based HCT-ASCT. Discussion The best treatment strategy for elderly PCNSL patients remains unknown. Treatments range from palliative to curative but more toxic therapies, and there is no standardized measure to select patients for the right treatment. This randomized controlled trial will create evidence for the best treatment strategy with the focus on developing a standardized GA to help define eligibility for an intensive treatment approach. The present study compares the six crop residue management techniques in main plots (since 2008) and three split nitrogen (N) levels, i.e., 75, 100 and 125 kg N/ha in subplots for rice crops for two years, i.e., 2019 and 2020, in sandy loam soil under field conditions. This experiment evaluated the long-term effect on rice productivity, soil organic carbon content and nutrient requirement in rice-wheat cropping system. The results revealed that different crop residue management practices and N levels significantly influenced rice growth, yield and yield attributes and improved nutrient uptake by grain and straw. Maximum grain yields of 20.8% and 17.8% higher over the conventional (no straw) treatment during 2019 and 2020, respectively, were recorded where the rice and wheat residue was retained or incorporated. The rice grain yield without residue responded significantly up to 125 kg N/ha. Whereas, with rice and wheat residue, rice grain yield did not respond to the application of N beyond 75 kg N/ha during both years.

The investigation of thermal radiation and thermophoretic impacts on nano-based liquid circulation in a microchannel has a significant impact on the cooling of microscale equipment, microliquid devices, and many more. These miniature systems can benefit from the improved heat transfer efficiency made possible by the use of nanofluids, which are designed to consist of colloidal dispersion of nanoparticles in a carrier liquid. Understanding and precisely modeling the thermophoretic deposition (TPD) of nanoparticles on the channel surfaces is of utmost importance since it can greatly affect the heat transmission properties. This work examines the complex interaction between quadratic thermal radiation, magnetohydrodynamics, and TPD in a permeable microchannel. It aims to solve a significant knowledge gap in microfluidics and thermal and mass transport. The governing equations are simplified by applying suitable similarity restrictions, and computing solutions to the resulting equations is done using the Runge‒Kutta Fehlberg fourth‒fifth-order scheme. The results are shown using graphs, and significant engineering metrics are analyzed. The outcomes show that increased Eckert number, magnetic, and porous factors will improve the thermal distribution. Quadratic thermal radiation shows the greater thermal distribution in the presence of these parameters, while Linear thermal radiation shows the least thermal distribution. The rate of thermal distribution is higher in the linear thermal distribution case and least in the nonlinear thermal radiation case in the presence of radiation and solid fraction factors. The outcomes of the present research are helpful in improving the thermal performance in microscale devices, electronic devices cooling, health care equipment, and other microfluidic applications.

The efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy concerning programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1) status is well established in patients diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, there remains a paucity of evidence regarding the efficacy concerning tumor mutational burden (TMB) in both clinical trials and real-world data (RWD). In the current article, clinicopathological and molecular epidemiological data were meticulously collected, and treatment modalities were meticulously recorded. The final analysis included a study population of 194 patients. Median age was 67 years (range 37–86), with the majority being male (71.13%), and 85.71% of patients were either current or former smokers at diagnosis. Adenocarcinoma accounted for most diagnoses (71.65%), followed by squamous cell carcinoma (24.23%). In terms of PD-L1 status, 42.78% had an expression level below 1%, 28.35% had an expression between 1–49%, and 28.87% had an expression above 50%. The TMB ranged from 0 to 75, with a median of 10.31 (range 0–75) for PD-L1 expression below 1%, with a median of 9.73 (range 0.95–39.63) for PD-L1 expression between 1–49%, and a median of 9.72 (range 0.95–48) for PD-L1 expression above 50%. Corresponding to patients with low PDL-1 less than 1% and low TMB (0–5), the median overall survival (mOS) was 16 (p = 0.18), and 15 months (p = 0.22), patients with medium PDL-1 (1–49%) and medium TMB (5–10), the mOS was 15 (p = 0.18) and 16 months (p = 0.22), patients with high PDL-1 (>50) and high TMB (>10), the mOS was 24 (p = 0.18) and 21 (p = 0.22) months. This study represents the largest academic RWD dataset concerning PD-L1 and TMB status in patients with locally advanced and metastatic NSCLC.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the most common pulmonary malignancy, frequently diagnosed at an advanced stage (III/IV). Patients in the Locally Advanced Stage Subgroup (IIIA) are relatively few, yet compose heterogenic phenotypes, posing a diagnostic and treating challenge, leading to a lack of clinical guidelines regarding the optimal standard of care. Several approaches exist, with a general agreement that a combined oncological and surgical modality approach is required. In this current retrospective descriptive study, patients with operable stage IIIA NSCLC who underwent surgery between 2013 and 2020 were evaluated on several aspects, including the initial diagnosis, neoadjuvant regimens, outcomes of surgical intervention, and overall survival at 2 years and 5 years following treatment. A total of 35 patients had neoadjuvant oncological treatment (mostly chemoradiation therapy) prior to surgery, out of which 28 patients were diagnosed with stage IIIA NSCLC. In post-operative assessment of pathological staging, downstaging was reported in 19 patients, of which 25% of cases were defined as a complete pathological response. The 2-year overall survival rate was 65% and the 5-year overall survival rate was 62%. The main pattern of disease recurrence was distant metastasis.

In this 14th document in a series of papers entitled “Controversies in Endoscopic Ultrasound” we discuss various aspects of EUS-guided biliary drainage that are debated in the literature and in practice. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiography is still the reference technique for therapeutic biliary access, but EUS-guided techniques for biliary access and drainage have developed into safe and highly effective alternative options. However, EUS-guided biliary drainage techniques are technically demanding procedures for which few training models are currently available. Different access routes require modifications to the basic technique and specific instruments. In experienced hands, percutaneous transhepatic cholangiodrainage is also a good alternative. Therefore, in this paper, we compare arguments for different options of biliary drainage and different technical modifications.

This study examines East Jerusalem teachers’ perceptions of and attitudes toward acquiring and communicating in Hebrew as a second language. The context of the study is a complex education system dominated by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. East Jerusalem’s education system is divided between schools supervised by Israel’s Ministry of Education and those supervised by its Palestinian Authority counterpart. Israel’s Ministry of Education requires that teachers in its East Jerusalem public schools learn basic Hebrew language and communication at an Israeli institute of higher education. This research seeks to examine a sampling of East Jerusalem teachers’ perceptions and attitudes toward acquiring Hebrew as a second language and communicating in it with the majority Jewish society. Study participants, all Arab teachers from East Jerusalem who had studied Hebrew at an Israeli college, were asked about their command and usage of Hebrew in several open-ended questions provided on a structured questionnaire that offered the respondents the ability to elaborate on their thoughts. The responses were subsequently assessed qualitatively. The study found that the participants’ willingness to learn Hebrew for daily communication purposes was motivated primarily by instrumental and pragmatic considerations. According to the findings, the participants’ communication in Hebrew was accompanied by feelings that in the process of acquiring and using the language, they were jeopardizing their sense of Palestinian identity as Palestinian citizens under Israeli rule. These perceptions arose in the context of the precarious status of East Jerusalem. The finding that national identification appears to impede second language acquisition has important implications for national language policy in similar regions.

Abstract Background Malakoplakia is a rare condition characterized by inflammatory masses with specific histological characteristics. These soft tissue masses can mimic tumors and tend to develop in association with chronic or recurrent infections, typically of the urinary tract. A specific defect in innate immunity has been described. In the absence of randomized controlled trials, management is based on an understanding of the biology and on case reports. Case presentation Here we describe a case of presacral malakoplakia in a British Indian woman in her late 30s, presenting with complex unilateral foot drop. Four years earlier, she had suffered a protracted episode of intrapelvic sepsis following a caesarean delivery. Resection of her presacral soft tissue mass was not possible. She received empiric antibiotics, a cholinergic agonist, and ascorbic acid. She responded well to medical management both when first treated and following a recurrence of symptoms after completing an initial 8 months of therapy. Whole exome sequencing of the patient and her parents was undertaken but no clear causal variant was identified. Conclusions Malakoplakia is uncommon but the diagnosis should be considered where soft tissue masses develop at the site of chronic or recurrent infections. Obtaining tissue for histological examination is key to making the diagnosis. This case suggests that surgical resection is not always needed to achieve a good clinical and radiological outcome.

AbstractAn insufficient number of studies investigated the criteria for Arabic letter teaching in schools. Teachers play an integral role in understanding Arabic letters among young children, as it is essential for acquiring reading in the Arabic language early in life. The criteria for teaching letters in a current study include ease of pronunciation, long vowels, short vowels, ease of pronunciation, sound, shape, and letter names. It is important to consider letter teaching as it helps in the early recognition and identification of the language and in performing better academically. The focus of the current study is to explore the orthographic attributes of Arabic letters, how teachers teach these letters, the order and criteria they follow, and the relative difficulty of letter knowledge items within the Arabic alphabet framework. Arabic letter teaching criteria tests were conducted among 80 teachers from Arabic-speaking countries in UAE. These teachers taught Kindergarten, grade 1, and special needs children. The current study’s findings revealed that Arabic letter teaching efforts are dynamic as chi-square results are non-significant, reflecting that teachers’ criteria and order adopted do not depend on teachers’ level of education or their specific area of expertise. Findings show that most teachers who adopt ease of pronunciation of letters in teaching students start with long vowels. Furthermore, results indicated that most teachers introduce Arabic letters, sounds, and shapes when teaching young learners.

This study delves into online assessments, focusing on their numerous advantages, including reducing paper usage and alleviating concerns surrounding the security of traditional examinations. The purpose of this study was to develop and test a model delineating the interplay between factors influencing the continuance intention to use online assessments and the influence on individual performance. A quantitative approach using an online survey was used to collect data from 222 graduate students from three major Palestinian universities. The research instrument was developed based on the finding of previous studies. Confirmatory factor analysis was employed to construct and validate the proposed model. The findings of this study revealed that perceived usefulness has a significant influence on the intention to continue using online assessment. The proposed model indicated that there is no direct or indirect relationship between perceived ease of use and the continuance intention to use online assessment. The main limitation of this study was its reliance on a purely quantitative approach. Therefore, a sequentional mixed methods approach van be a suggestion for future research and include all the higher education institutions in the Palestinian context.

Languages are known to describe the world in diverse ways. Across lexicons, diversity is pervasive, appearing through phenomena such as lexical gaps and untranslatability. However, in computational resources, such as multilingual lexical databases, diversity is hardly ever represented. In this paper, we introduce a method to enrich computational lexicons with content relating to linguistic diversity. The method is verified through two large-scale case studies on kinship terminology, a domain known to be diverse across languages and cultures: one case study deals with seven Arabic dialects, while the other one with three Indonesian languages. Our results, made available as browseable and downloadable computational resources, extend prior linguistics research on kinship terminology, and provide insight into the extent of diversity even within linguistically and culturally close communities.

الأهداف: هدفت الدراسة التعرف إلى درجة الحكمة الإدارية لدى مديري المدارس الحكومية الثانوية في المحافظات الشمالية من فلسطين من وجهة نظر المديرين والمعلمين فيها، إضافة إلى الكشف عما إذا كانت هناك فروق ذات دلالة إحصائية بين تقديرات أفراد العينة، تعزى إلى متغيري الجنس، والوظيفة الحالية، والتفاعل بينهما. المنهجية: اتبع الباحثون المنهج الوصفي التحليلي، وتم بناء مقياس الحكمة الإدارية باستخدام التحليل العاملي الاستكشافي، وتم استخراج معامل الثبات، وطبق المقياس على عينة المديرين والبالغة (189) مديرا ومديرة، وعلى عينة المعلمين (1992) معلما ومعلمة. النتائج: توصلت الدراسة إلى أن درجة الحكمة الإدارية لدى مديري المدارس الحكومية الثانوية في فلسطين من وجهة نظر مديري المدارس والمعلمين، كانت كبيرة، في جميع المجالات والدرجة الكلية، وأظهرت النتائج أن هناك فروقا ذات دلالة إحصائية عند مستوى الدلالة (α ≤0.05) في الدرجة الكلية للحكمة الإدارية تعزى إلى متغير الوظيفة ولصالح مديري المدارس، في حين لا توجد فروق دالة إحصائية تبعا إلى متغير الجنس، ويوجد تفاعل بين متغيري الوظيفة والجنس ولصالح (مدير-أنثى) يليه ( مدير-ذكر) يليه (معلم- ذكر) يليه (معلم-انثى). الخلاصة: توصي الدراسة بضرورة اهتمام وزارة التربية والتعليم بإعداد وتدريب مديري المدارس في ضوء الحكمة الإدارية، نظرا لكثرة المواقف الإدارية التي تتطلب الحكمة في التصرف.

Abstract Nowadays, Combine Harvesters are the most commonly used device for harvesting crops; as a result, a large amount of plant material and crop residue is concentrated into a narrow band of plant material that exits the combine, challenging the residue management task. This paper aims to develop a crop residue management machine that can chop paddy residues and mix them with the soil of the combined harvested paddy field. For this purpose, two important units are attached to the developed machine: the chopping and incorporation units. The tractor operates this machine as the main source, with a power range of about 55.95 kW. The four independent parameters selected for the study were rotary speed (R1 = 900 & R2 = 1100 rpm), forward speed (F1 = 2.1 & F2 = 3.0 Kmph), horizontal adjustment (H1 = 550 & H2 = 650 mm), and vertical adjustment (V1 = 100 & V2 = 200 mm) between the straw chopper shaft and rotavator shaft and its effect was found on incorporation efficiency, shredding efficiency, and trash size reduction of chopped paddy residues. The incorporation of residue and shredding efficiency was highest at V1H2F1R2 (95.31%) and V1H2F1R2 (61.92%) arrangements. The trash reduction of chopped paddy residue was recorded maximum at V1H2F2R2 (40.58%). Therefore, this study concludes that the developed residue management machine with some modifications in power transmission can be suggested to the farmers to overcome the paddy residue issue in combined harvested paddy fields.

In literature, different methods such as training, role play, war play, and military training have been brought to develop the capability of army commanders in the decision making. It is also noted in the literature that models of decision making in large armies of the world are different in the fields of cultural, political, social, and technological level of countries, and in each country a unique circumstance has been employed to develop the capability of its military commanders.In this study, after studying the thematic literature on the subject of research and reviewing various decision-making models in the world's major armies, semi-structured interviews with army commanders were conducted, then using Maxqda software, qualitative-exploratory analysis of interviews was performed and finally using the results of steps. Previously, a model has been developed to explain how to increase the capabilities of the commanders of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the field of decision-making in accordance with the political, cultural structure and decision-making model of the Army of the Islamic Republic of Iran. In order to verify the developed model, a questionnaire was designed which by analyzing the results in SPSS software and using one-sample t-test, the result was that four variables of training, experience, playfulness and feedback on the empowerment of army commanders c. Iran has influence in the field of decision making.

Background: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are at a higher risk of cytomegalovirus (CMV) colitis because of their immunocompromised status. There are no studies from Saudi Arabia regarding the prevalence of CMV colitis in patients with IBD. Objective: To determine the prevalence, characteristics, and risk factors of CMV colitis in patients with IBD in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included patients with a confirmed diagnosis of IBD (aged 14–75 years) who were followed up at King Fahad Medical City, a referral care center in Riyadh, between January 2016 and December 2021; patients with indeterminate colitis or incomplete medical records were excluded. Results: A total of 341 patients with IBD were included, of which 236 (72.2%) had Crohn's disease (CD) and 105 (27.8%) had ulcerative colitis (UC). Qualitative CMV PCR was done for 192 patients (60 UC and 132 CD patients), of which 14 patients were positive for CMV colitis (7.3%), and all positive CMV colitis cases were among UC patients (23.3%). However, the hematoxylin and eosin (H and E) stain and immunohistochemistry were negative for all patients. Most patients with CMV colitis were on steroids (71.4%), had at least one flare-up (64.3%), and were on biologic treatment (71.4%). Significant predictors of CMV colitis were hemoglobin (OR: 0.7; 95% CI: 0.51–0.96), albumin (OR: 0.88; 95% CI: 0.78–0.98), and C-reactive protein (OR: 1.03; 95% CI: 1.01–1.06) levels. Conclusion: This study found that the prevalence of CMV colitis was 7.3% among patients with IBD, and no case was diagnosed in patients with CD. In addition, as all cases diagnosed using qualitative CMV PCR were negative on H and E stain and immunohistochemistry, there is need for large-scale studies to improve the diagnosis of CMV colitis.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common lymphoma in adults. We evaluated the immunohistochemical (IHC) expression of p63 and p53 in DLBCL and their significance on overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 177 patients with DLBCL who presented to Mount Sinai Medical Center of Florida (Miami Beach, Florida) between 2010 and 2020. IHC staining for p63 and p53 protein expression was performed. A significant correlation was found between p63 positivity and p53 expression, p53/p63 co-positivity, Ki-67 proliferation index, MYC expression, and MYC/BCL2 double expression. Regardless of the germinal center B-cell like (GCB) subgrouping, there was a trend among p53+ patients to have MYC/BCL2 double expression, positive MYC expression, and lower OS and PFS. A tendency of poor OS was seen in p53+ patients in the non-GCB, GCB, and double expressors subgroups and poor PFS in p53+ patients regardless of the subgrouping. In conclusion, our results suggest that p63 and p53 may represent potential additional prognostic biomarkers in DLBCL and may be included in the initial diagnostic work up of patients with DLBCL.

Due to the devastating COVID-19 pandemic, a preventive tool in the form of vaccination was introduced. Thoracic cancer patients had one of the highest rates of morbidity and mortality due to COVID-19 disease, but the lack of data about the safety and effectiveness of vaccines in this population triggered studies like ours to explore these parameters in a cancer population. Out of 98 patients with thoracic malignancies vaccinated per protocol, 60–75% experienced some adverse events (AE) after their first or second vaccination, most of them were mild and did not interfere with their daily activities. Out of 17 severe AEs reported, all but one were resolved shortly after vaccination. No significant differences were noted considering AE occurrence between different cancer therapies received after the first or second vaccination dose, p = 0.767 and p = 0.441, respectively. There were 37 breakthrough infections either after the first (1), second (13) or third (23) vaccine dose. One patient died as a direct consequence of COVID-19 infection and respiratory failure, and another after disease progression with simultaneous severe infection. Eight patients had moderate disease courses, received antiviral therapies and survived without consequences. Vaccination did not affect the time to disease progression or death from underlying cancer.
