WOS: 000435557900016, Nutritive value and persistence of different alfalfa cultivars, but very little information is available in the literature on mineral concentrations, especially on microelements. This study was carried out to determine crude protein and mineral contents in alfalfa cultivars from two different locations, Ankara and Konya provinces, in Central Anatolia during 2005 and 2007. The experiment was conducted using a randomized complete block design with three replications. Significant differences in many investigated traits were found between cultivars, years, locations and location x year, location x cultivar, year x cultivar, and location x year x cultivar interactions. A crude protein ratio and micro and macro element contents (K, P, Mg, Ca, Mn, Fe, Zn, B, Mo, Cu, Cr, Se and Al) were analyzed in alfalfa on a dry weight basis. The results showed that the protein content ranged 17.23 to 20.71%. The macro element contents ranged 2.06 to 3.95 g kg(-1) for K, 13.65 to 23.25 g kg(-1) for P, 1.31 to 2.53 g kg(-1) for Mg, 6.71 to 22.81 g kg(-1) for Ca, and 44.3 to 92.7 mg kg(-1) for Fe, whereas the microelement contents ranged 15.4 to 54.3 mg kg(-1) for Mn, 24.6 to 121.9 mg kg(-1) for Zn, 46.4 to 85.4 mg kg(-1) for B, 0.50 to 6.13 mg kg(-1) for Mo, 3.13 to 4.17 mg kg(-1) for Cu, 0.93 to 2.40 mg kg(-1) for Cr, 0.77 to 1.03 mg kg(-1) for Se and 31.2 to 57.8 mg kg(-1) for Al. WOS: 000390832800025, Wheatgrass juice is mainly derived from the common wheat Triticum aestivum L. The present study focused on the analysis of the potential of different perennial turfgrass species in grass juice production by determining certain compositional characteristics. The effects of fertilisers on the plants and the cutting time on some chemical constituents and antioxidant potential of grass juices were addressed. The juices from the different species of grasses, such as T. durum, T. aestivum, Lolium perenne L., Festuca arundinacea Schreb. were obtained by pressing. DPPH (1, 1dipheny1-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging activity, elemental composition, total chlorophylls, total carotenes, tocopherols, vitamin C, total phenols, viscosity and the colour profiles of the grass juice samples were analysed. Water-soluble dry matter, protein, total phenols, flavonoids and vitamin E (especially Durum cultivar) content were found to be higher in the juices of Triticum species as compared to the other grasses. Turfgrass species demonstrated higher concentrations of oil (in grass), vitamin C (unfertilised samples), chlorophyll (except L. perenne local) and major elements. The pressing of turfgrass was an easy process. Such perennial grass varieties have advantages over the Triticum species in terms of having higher concentrations of vitamin C (unfertilised samples) and major elements. The results of sensory analysis suggested that L. perenne (cultivar) is the most promising cultivar in terms of obtaining pressed grass juice.

The present study was conducted to determine the yield and yield components of smooth bromegrass lines under the environmental conditions of the Konya region during the growing seasons between 2011 and 2013. The experiment was performed in the randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replications. It was found that the selected lines had a statistically significant effect on all the investigated traits, except for the main stem length and the number of nodes in the main stem. According to the two-year average calculated for various parameters checked in the smooth bromegrass lines, the main stem length ranged from 71.6 cm to 79.1 cm, the main stem diameter from 2.12 mm from 2.70 mm, the number of nodes in the main stem from 3.2 to 3.7, the internode length from 11.6 cm to 18.9 cm, flag leaf length from 9.7 cm to 12.7 cm, flag leaf width from 3.58 cm to 6.04 mm, herbage yield from 221.3 kg da–1 to 354.7 kg da–1 and hay yield from 100.4 kg da–1 to 190.1 kg da–1. The study concluded that the smooth bromegrass lines differ in terms of yield and yield components. This study was conducted to determine the effects of different mowing dates of plant top on tuber yield of Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus L) during 2005 and 2006 growing seasons. The experiment was designed according to the “split plots on randomized complete block” experimental design with three replications. Three different mowing dates [a: August 18 (before flowering), b: September 21 (beginning of flowering), c: October 20 (full flowering) and k: control (not-mowing)] and two varieties [red (K) and white (A) skin local Jerusalem artichoke] were taken as factors. Tuber yield and yield components were higher in the first mowing date and control than in the second and third mowing dates in 2005, 2006 and in the average of 2005 to 2006. Two years average maximum tuber yields per decare were 5149.78 kg in the control plots and 3327.27 kg in the plots of red skin of Jerusalem artichoke. The results suggest that first mowing date and control are suitable mowing times for tuber yield.Key words: Jerusalem artichoke, mowing dates, tuber yield, dry matter yield.

WOS: 000346626200012, Many plants in natural flora including perennial ryegrass loss their genetic variability, suffer from genetic pollution or become extinction. In Turkey, studies on breeding of perennial ryegrass genotype collections are inadequate. This study aimed to determine some plant characteristics of perennial ryegrass plants collected from the natural flora of Ankara. Those genotypes were utilized in order to evaluate for breeding purposes. Seedlings were reproduced in greenhouse after collected seeds from plants were sown in pots. Seedlings were transplanted to the experimental field at 50 x 50 cm intervals in Randomized Complete Block Design with four replications during 2005. Data were obtained from the observations and 568 perennial ryegrasses in 2007 and 2008. The observations and measurement of the two year average values ranged from 2.25 to 6.50 (1=very early, 9=very late) for the spring re-growth time, 2.75 to 7.75 (1=very light green, 9=very dark green) for color, 1.25 to 6.88 (1=very low, 9=very high) for density, 1.0 - 8.0 (1=erect, 9=prostrate) for growth habit, 1.0 - 9.0 (1=very weak, 9=very strong) for tendency to inflorescences, 1.0 to 7.5 (1=very early, 9=very late) for time of inflorescence emergence. In the study, furthermore, measurements varied between 19.35 and 48.05 cm for plant height, 8.31 and 25.54 cm for length of upper internode, 6.76 and 16.28 cm for spike length, 6.44 and 14.57 cm for leaf length, 2.41 and 4.01 mm for leaf width, 1.68 and 4.87 cm(2) for leaf area, 21.23 and 45.52 for leaf shape, 11.63 and 23.75 for spikelet number per spike, 0.031 and 0.151 g spike(-1) for seed yield, 1.23 and 2.38 g for thousand grain weight. The findings showed that there were significant differences among genotypes in terms of investigated traits. The high level of genotypic variability increased the possibility for selection of suitable genotypes. Perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) plants are cultivated for lawn constitution and as forage plants. Considerable number of perennial ryegrass genotypes are present in the flora of our country and they present substantial was performed based on a Project supported bu TUBITAK (Project numver : 106O159) and perannial ryegrass genotypes from 8 provinces were collected during 2006. Seeds of perennial ryegrass were collected from 48 different locations. Populations of turfgrass seeds in flowerpots to be 20 and 1 cm deep greenhouse were sown in three replications at 07.07.2007.Then the growth of turfgrass seedlings in the greenhouse in pots showed sufficiently separated from the plants were planted in each population. Plants planted in the garden of the observation scale of 1-9 was evaluated by the quality, 1 = the weakest / worst, 6 = acceptable and 9 = superior or considered as an ideal. Essentially only recognized in assessing the quality of the color of grass, but the color, density, uniformity, texture (texture), illness or environmental stresses are evaluated as a combination reaction. Turfgrass quality 15.11.2007, 19.03.2008, 27.05.2008, 27.11.2008, 07.03.2009 and 02.06.2009 have been 6 times to be in order.
