Poverty eradication remains a top priority for policymakers around the world. At the same time, population aging trends indicate a strong need to understand and address poverty in later life. While there is a lot of literature on poverty, there is not much on old-age poverty. The goal of this review is to outline current empirical research on old-age poverty, identify knowledge gaps, and make recommendations for future research. Comparison analysis had been done among ten countries in ASEAN members. The findings reveal most of the old age poverty is female. While health issues are the paramount factor that affected old-age poverty. Moreover, social pension schemes and financial assistance are crucial in eradicating old-age poverty. The results of this study have implications for understanding old-age poverty in ASEAN member countries from a profile of old-age poverty, factors that influence old-age poverty, and viable eradication policies and programs in developing countries worldwide.

Older adults were advised to avoid social activities during the outbreak of COVID-19. Consequently, they no longer received the social and emotional support they had gained from such activities. Internet use might be a solution to remedy the situation. Therefore, this scoping review sought to map the literature on Internet use and mental health in the older population during the pandemic to examine the extent and nature of the research. A scoping review was conducted using eight databases—PubMed, Scopus, Ebscohost Medline, Ebscohost Academic Search, Ebscohost CINAHL Plus, Ebscohost Cochrane, Ebscohost Psychology and Behavioural Sciences Collection, and Ebscohost SPORTDiscus, according to PRISMA guidelines. Two pre-tested templates (quantitative and qualitative studies) were developed to extract data and perform descriptive analysis and thematic summary. A total of ten articles met the eligibility criteria. Seven out of ten studies were quantitative, while the remainder were qualitative. Five common themes were identified from all the included studies. Our review revealed that Internet use for communication purposes seems to be associated with better mental health in older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. Directions for future research and limitations of review are also discussed.

Among the states in Malaysia, Perak is the “oldest” state with 14.9% of its population aged 60 and above in 2020. The aim of this work is to promote public participation in local planning to develop an action plan with the aim of creating an environment that age-friendly in Taiping. Baseline assessment was conducted through online survey. 1,114 responses were analysed. Result shows the mean score of perceived age-friendliness level in Taiping is 53, means moderate. Age-friendly environment is already present in Taiping and the local council needs to select an urgent age-friendly domain to address in the immediate future.

Despite the vast research in financial literacy and financial education, little is known about the effectiveness of the education programme that was conducted to increase the financial literacy among Malaysian. The high number of bankruptcy as the highest bankruptcy case was related to hire purchase loans and personal loans are among the crucial financial issues in Malaysia. Hence, this study was conducted to investigate the financial literacy, attitude and practices of those who attended POWER! programme and not attended. Data were obtained through on-line survey (n=677) and during Minggu Amanah Saham Malaysia. The findings include that after 6 months attended POWER! programme the participants have a higher financial knowledge. In addition, those who attended POWER! programme had positive attitude towards financial matters although mix result was observed. On the other hand, the control group have better in basic financial behaviour. Consequently, interview should be conducted to gain more understanding on the impact of POWER! programme, a detailed module on specific personal finance need to be developed and further study on financial attitude and behaviour is needed.

Elder life satisfaction (ELS) as the characteristics of well being and quality of life is an important psychological concern. However, little is known about life satisfaction in multi-community society such as Malaysia with a variate ethnicity that may seem with different level among community- dwelling populations. The study aim was to identify the differences level of life satisfaction between gender and ethnicity. Population based study conducted in 2008 with 1077 participating. Subject with the population of 480 elderly filled the questionnaire successfully. The reported group related to perception, experience and awareness of elder abuse in Malaysian population comprises of three major ethnicity Malay, Chinese and Indian living in community dwelling in four zones Perak, Selangor, Kelantan, and Perak. This study based on secondary data is about the situation of life satisfaction among elderly in community-dwelling. T-test and ANOVA were utilized to assess level of life satisfaction among them. The results revealed that despite of different level of life satisfaction in some country with different race, in this study, in Malaysian population, there was no significant different level of life satisfaction among Malay, Chinese and Indian and also in terms of gender. Average life satisfaction among all of participation was about 6-7 from 10 that mean people in this community have moderate level of life satisfaction of life. In order to increase this level, it should be considering same programs for men and women and also in different ethnicity Moreover, identification of factors related to increase/decrease elder life satisfaction suggested.
