Background: Depressive disorders are prevalent mental health conditions that significantly impair individuals' social functioning and communication competence. These challenges can exacerbate depressive symptoms, creating a vicious cycle that hinders recovery and overall well-being. Despite the growing recognition of the impact of depressive disorders on social functioning and communication competence, there remains a significant gap in effective interventions addressing these specific areas. Aims: This research aims to investigate the effect of interpersonal effectiveness skill training on social functioning and communication competence among clients with depressive disorder. Design: A quasiexperimental research design. Setting: The research procedure was carried out in the outpatient clinic of Alexandria University Hospital. Subjects: The study group, which included 42 males and 18 females, and the control group had the same number of patients. Tools: After the preliminary assessment of depression, three instruments were used to collect data: a structured interview schedule that gathered sociodemographic and clinical information, the Scale of Communication Competence, and the Social Functioning Scale. Results: The study group showed a positive difference in their social functioning and communication competence score compared with the control group. Implication: The findings of this study have significant implications for the treatment and support of clients with depressive disorder by incorporating structured skill-building programs into therapeutic regimens for individuals with depressive disorders. Introduction: Healthcare organizations worldwide face intense competition for survival in an ever-changing environment. Objectives: This study aims to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and quality of healthcare (QHC) among Jordanian nurses working in governmental hospitals. Method: This study was conducted using a descriptive correlational design and included a sample of 172 nurses. Participants from five governmental hospitals in Jordan completed online self-administered questionnaires, including the Nurse-Assessed Quality of Nursing Care Scale and the Genos Emotional Intelligence Concise Scale, along with sociodemographic data. Results: The participating nurses demonstrated a high level of EI (M = 3.809, SD ± 0.484) and a very high level of QHC (M = 4.260, SD ± 0.372). A statistically significant correlation was found between the total quality of healthcare variables and the total EI variable (r = 0.739, p < 0.01). Additionally, statistically significant correlations were observed between the QHC and EI, as well as their respective dimensions (r = 0.357–0.739). EI was found to be a significant predictor of the QHC (F = 34.872, p ≤ 0.001), with a positive correlation between the two variables (r = 0.733). EI accounted for 59.8% of the variation in the QHC. Conclusion: EI is a key predictor of QHC. Background: Patient–ventilator asynchrony (PVA) is a condition that commonly affects patients who are mechanically ventilated. PVA happens when the patient's own breathing effort and the ventilator preset settings are out of sync. Ventilator waveform monitoring is viewed as a difficult undertaking, even for experienced practitioners, despite being a non‐invasive and reliable tool for diagnosing PVA. Aim: To assess the knowledge levels and attitudes of critical care nurses (CCNs) regarding the use of ventilator waveform monitoring to detect PVA. Study Design: A cross‐sectional online survey was conducted in three intensive care units (ICUs) in Alexandria, Egypt. The questionnaire consisted of four parts to evaluate CCNs' level of knowledge and attitude regarding ventilator waveform monitoring and assess their ability to detect PVA. Results: Of the 137 CCNs approached, 101 CCNs completed the survey, resulting in a 73.7% response rate. Most nurses (88.1%) demonstrated poor knowledge levels and negative attitudes (93.1%) towards using waveform monitoring to detect PVA. A significant relationship was found between nurses' knowledge of ventilator waveform monitoring and their participation in previous training programmes on mechanical ventilation (MV; p =.031). Additionally, nurses' attitudes towards ventilator waveform monitoring were significantly associated with their level of education (p =.002) and attendance in previous courses on waveform analysis (p =.020). Conclusions: A majority of CCNs have poor knowledge and negative attitudes regarding ventilator waveform monitoring. Previous training in MV and attendance courses on ventilator waveform analysis showed a significant correlation between nurses' level of knowledge and attitudes regarding ventilator waveform monitoring. Relevance to Clinical Practice: Assessment of CCNs' knowledge and attitudes regarding ventilator waveform monitoring for detecting patient–ventilator asynchrony (PVA) informs the development of future educational programmes, ultimately aiding in the delivery of prompt and high‐quality care. Background/Objectives: This study looks at how a kinematic chain exercise regimen that targets the lower, core, and upper body affects university shot put participants' shoulder muscle strength and throwing efficiency. This study fills an apparent research void on shot put training approaches by presenting a comprehensive kinematic chain workout program. It was anticipated that this method would improve performance the most, considering the complex biomechanical requirements of the sport. Methods: Eighty athletes aged (19.87 ± 1.31 years), were assigned into two groups at random: experimental (n = 40) and control (n = 40). While the control group carried on with their usual training, the experimental group participated in an 8-week kinematic chain training program. Pre- and post-training evaluations were carried out to evaluate shot put-throwing ability, shoulder muscle strength, and participant satisfaction with the exercise regimen. Results: The analyses were performed to evaluate the between- and within-group effects in the 10-week intervention period using a two-way ANOVA. This study demonstrated that, when compared to the control group, the athletes in the kinematic chain program had significantly increased throwing distance (p = 0.01) and shoulder muscle strength (p = 0.01). Furthermore, there was a significant increase (p = 0.005) in the athletes' satisfaction levels with the workout program among those in the experimental group. Conclusions: In shot put athletes, this study suggests that a kinematic chain-focused strategy can improve throwing performance and shoulder muscle strength. The findings suggest that incorporating kinematic chain workouts into shot put training programs could be beneficial. However, conclusions should be drawn with caution, and further research is necessary to confirm the effectiveness of kinematic chain-based approaches across various sports and to understand their broader implications in sports science. Many organizational factors could make nurses take a decision to leave their organization; however, leader humility and expertise could help nurses retract from this decision.This is a multisite cross‐sectional study that was conducted at all medical‐surgical units of four university hospitals. Using scales for assessing leader humility, nurses' turnover intention, and leader expertise, 385 nurses were surveyed. Data were investigated via descriptive and inferential statistics, where correlation, path analysis, and structured equation modeling were used to test the hypothetical relationship among study variables.There is a statistically significant negative relationship between humble leadership and nurses' turnover intention. Humble leadership and leader expertise were significant predictors of nurses' turnover intention. The moderating effect of leader expertise on the relationship between humble leadership and nurses' turnover intention was statistically significant, making it more negative, implying that leader expertise amplifies the effect of leader humility on reducing nurses’ turnover.Incorporating leader expertise with humility could provide an efficient panacea for reducing turnover intentions among nurses in different healthcare organizations.Healthcare organizations could develop an efficient retention plan for nurses by cultivating humility among both leaders and nurses. In addition, building nurse leaders' expertise through opening avenues for professional development is a good strategy in the face of nurses' shortage and high turnover. Aim: The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of a distance education training program on nurse interns' readiness for distance education and their perceptions of lifelong learning. Design: A quasi‐experimental research approach with one‐group, pre/post‐test was used. Methods: The study used a quasi‐experimental research approach and was carried out at Damanhour University's Faculty of Nursing. A study was carried out on 345 interns' students. All nursing interns enrolled in the 2020–2021 internship training year. The researchers employed a program that contained a distance education readiness assessment as well as a questionnaire about the perceived advantages of lifelong learning. Results: The majority (99.7%) of nurse interns were highly ready for distance education, whereas only 0.3 percent were moderately ready following the training program implementation immediately. In comparison to pre‐training, the majority (91.9%) of them were somewhat ready for distance education, while just 7.2 percent were highly prepared. Furthermore, the majority (97.1%) of them had high total skills of distance education after implementation of the training program by 3 months, and 95.4 percent had high total skills of learning immediately after the training program, whereas 26.1% of nurse interns had high total skills before the training program, at p value 0.01. Background: Distress tolerance skills have the potential to decrease problematic internet use and improve psychological wellbeing by cognitive reframing and goal-oriented problem-solving.Aim: To assess the impact of distress tolerance training on problematic internet use and psychological wellbeing among university nursing students.Methods: A randomized control trial used at the faculty of nursing using simple random sampling method. Tools: Distress Tolerance Scale, problematic internet use questionnaire, and Ryff psychological wellbeing scale. Data were collected from 60 nursing students over a period of 4 months.Results: Distress tolerance level was increased among study group from 20.75± 14.29 to 72.75± 24.09 and sustained for 3 months to 62.44 ± 20.77 with statistically significant (f=7.090, p=0.006) and large effect size 0.75. When compared to no change among the control group as mean scare start by 22.35± 14.29 to 23.44± 16.09 and after 3 months to 21.75± 17.44 with insignificant difference (f=0.454, p=0.574). The mean score of problematic internet use shows highly statistically significant decrement in the study group between three period of time (pretest= 62.93, immediately post= 52.13, and post 3 months=52.70) with large effect size 0.78 (f=95.029, p< 0.001), in compared to control group that showed insignificant no changes (pretest= 64.0± 14.54, immediately post= 63.13± 12.87, and post 3 months=63.53± 11.36) with (f=1.012, p=0.332). In addition, the total mean score of psychological well-being was increased immediately after therapy and later for three months of therapy (pretest= 128.47, immediately post=148.77, and post 3 months= 153.60) with highly statistically significant (f=41.197, p< 0.001) with effect size 0.85, compared to no change among control group (pretest=125.97± 32.58, immediately post= 126.23± 30.86, and post 3 months=126.43± 29.78) with (f=0.208, p=0.698).Conclusion: Efficacy of distress tolerance skills intervention had been proven in altering poor psychological wellbeing among students with problematic internet use. Despite the value of undertaking patient safety culture, its association with horizontal violence in nursing workplace is still understudied. This study aimed to investigate the association between the perceived patient safety culture and its relationship with horizontal violence among nurses working in Jordan.Methods: A cross-sectional correlational design was used. Nurses working in major governmental hospitals in Jordan were conveniently recruited to complete an online self-administered questionnaire, which included the following tools: Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture and Negative Behaviours in Healthcare (NBHC) Survey. The survey was designed to measure attitudes and perceptions on patient safety culture at multiple levels of a healthcare organization with ten dimensions. The Negative Behaviours in Healthcare (NBHC) survey was developed as an adaptation of the Lateral Violence in Nursing Survey (LVNS) with 25 items and two open-ended questions.Results: A total of 330 nurses responded to the questionnaire. Nurses moderately perceived patient safety culture (HSOPS mean = 3.5, SD = 1.1). Low incidence of horizontal violence was claimed (mean = 2.1, SD = 1.1). However, it was associated with moderate negative correlation with patient safety culture (r = − 0.53, p < 0.001). Regression model revealed that patient safety culture explained an additional 53% of the variance of horizontal violence after controlling the effects of age and length of clinical experience (R-square change: 0.560, SE: 19.7, P: 0.001, CI: 1.21– 1.57).Conclusion: Despite its low incidence, patient safety culture was found influential to the horizontal violence based on the perspectives of nurses in Jordan. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the medication administration error perceptions among Jordanian critical care nurses. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive design was used among Jordanian critical care nurses. The total number of completed questionnaires submitted for analysis was 340. Data were collected between July and August 2022 in two health sectors (governmental hospitals and educational hospital) in the middle and north region in Jordan through a self-administered questionnaire on medication administration errors which includes 65 items with three parts. Results: Nurses showed negative perceptions toward medication administration errors. The majority of participants agreed that "The packaging of many medications is similar" (76.7%), followed by "different medications look alike" (76.2%), as the main reasons for medication error occurrence. Two thirds of participants agreed that "when med errors occur, nursing administration focuses on the individual rather than looking at the systems as a potential cause of the error" (74.1%). Similarly, 73.5% of them believed nurses were blamed if something happens to the patient as a result of the medication error was the main reason for underreporting of MAEs. The highest reported levels of medication errors were in a range between 41% and 70%, for both types intravenous (IV) medication errors and non-intravenous (non-IV) medication errors. Conclusion: Implement interventions centered on MAEs in particular among critical care nurses, owing to the proven significance of it in foretelling their crucial role in delivering safe care to patients, which will lead to quantifiable returns on both patient outcomes and nurse health, as well as the overall efficiency and image of the organization. Purpose: To determine barriers to preventing venous thromboembolism in total knee and hip arthroplasty patients by surgical nurses. Methods: This qualitative study used a phenomenological approach. The semi-structured interview questionnaire included two questions focused on nursing care practices for VTE prevention and barriers faced during VTE prophylaxis in total knee and hip arthroplasty patients. Study data were collected from 10 surgical nurses through semi-structured interviews in July 2021. Results: After analyzing the data, two main themes, five categories, and fourteen subcategories were developed. The main themes included "Nursing care" and "Barriers." Two categories were reflected in terms of nursing care: general care and mechanical prophylaxis. Regarding barriers, the analysis of the interview reflected three main categories: "lack of professional competence", "work conditions challenges", and "resistance from patients". Conclusion: Educational institutions must play a critical role in preparing surgical nurses by establishing clinical nurse specialist programs and post-graduate diplomas programs that sufficiently prepare nurses for clinical settings. Understanding this relationship is crucial for promoting sustainable practices in healthcare.A cross‐sectional research design was employed. This approach was chosen to examine how organisational agility and climate activism simultaneously influence green work behaviour in the present context, providing a snapshot of their synergistic interactions.This study was conducted in 2024 at eight hospitals in Egypt, with a total of 781 nurses conveniently selected for participation. Data were collected using validated instruments: the Agility Survey, Employee Green Behaviour Scale and Environmental Action Scale. Correlation and path analyses were utilised to test the study hypotheses.Nurses reported moderate levels of organisational agility, climate activism and green work behaviour. Statistically significant positive correlations were found between organisational agility, climate activism and green work behaviour. Organisational agility and climate activism emerged as significant predictors of green work behaviour, with climate activism acting as a partial mediator between organisational agility and green work behaviour.This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on fostering sustainable nursing practices as results indicate that agile organisations, which embrace flexibility and nurse‐led climate initiatives, are better positioned to promote sustainable behaviour.Practical strategies include selecting nurses with high climate literacy, designing agile working strategies and promoting eco‐conscious behaviours. In addition, remaining silent about significant issues facing nurses is a devastating approach to the success of both healthcare organizations and the nursing profession.A cross‐sectional descriptive correlational exploratory research design was used to conduct the study. Data were collected from 352 nurses recruited from three large university hospitals in Alexandria, Egypt. Four instruments, namely, the Workplace Ostracism Questionnaire, the Organizational Silence Scale, the Active Procrastination Scale, and the Unintentional Procrastination Scale, were used. Structural equation modeling was used to test the hypothesized relationships among the variables.The findings demonstrated a significant positive and moderate association between workplace ostracism and both active and passive procrastination behaviors among nurses. Moreover, there was a strong positive and significant correlation between organizational silence and workplace ostracism. The results of mediation revealed that the indirect effect of workplace ostracism on both active and passive procrastination behavior through organizational silence was statistically significant, suggesting that organizational silence partially mediated this relationship.The study highlighted the ongoing challenges posed by toxic workplace issues, such as organizational ostracism and silence, as significant factors contributing to nurses' procrastination behaviors. Not only do these factors directly impact nurses' productivity, but they also interact to exacerbate negative outcomes in nursing care. Addressing these toxic dynamics is critical to improving nurse performance and ensuring quality care in healthcare settings.This study offers new insights for navigating toxicity and upgrading nursing productivity in healthcare organizations through fostering a more inclusive and communicative work environment. Promoting team cohesion and ensuring that all staff members feel valued and included can reduce feelings of isolation that may lead to procrastination. Introduction: Coronavirus 2019 symptoms include coagulopathy and thromboembolic risk. Using one parameter to diagnose coagulopathy has little predictive value. Objective: This study will examine if D-dimer and APTT testing can predict COVID-19 severity and aid triage and manage patients. Methods: 214 COVID-19 patients were enrolled and classified into two categories based on their respiratory manifestations; mild (126 cases) and severe (88 cases). Patient data regarding age, gender, D-Dimer level, and APTT level were collected. When both D-Dimer and APTT levels were abnormal, in this study, the patient was considered to have a coagulation disorder. Indicators of coagulation in the COVID-19 patients were collected and compared between the two groups. Chi-square (Χ2) tests were used to determine the significant differences between coagulation disorders in the two groups. Results: Our findings showed that patients with coagulopathies were more likely to belong to the severe group. Within the two groups of patients, the rate of coagulation disorders was as follows: mild = 8.8 % within coagulation disorders, 4.8% within the two Groups; severe = 91.2 % within coagulation disorders, 77.8 % within the two Groups. There was a statistically significant relationship between coagulation disorder and severe COVID-19 patients compared to mild patients (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Coagulation disorders are more likely to occur in severe COVID-19 patients. D-Dimer and APTT tests are significant indicators for predicting COVID-19 severity. Our research found an abnormal pattern of coagulation disorders and COVID-19 severity that should be considered in the COVID-19 treatment protocol. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Cultivating internal whistleblowing among nurses is of paramount importance to nurse leaders. Yet, the literature on how nurse leaders can foster this phenomenon among nurses is limited. Additionally, the underlying mechanisms linking leadership behaviors to internal whistleblowing intentions remain underexplored. Aim: This study aimed to examine how ethical leadership is linked to internal whistleblowing intentions among nurses through the mediating effect of psychological safety. Research design: A multicenter cross-sectional research design was used for this study. Participants and research context: This study involved 201 nurses working in three tertiary governmental hospitals across three cities in Egypt. Data were collected between October and December 2023, using an introductory information form, the Ethical Leadership Scale, the Psychological Safety Scale, and the Internal Whistleblowing Intentions Scale. Structural equation modeling was used to evaluate study hypotheses. Ethical consideration: Research Ethics Committee of Faculty of Nursing, Port Said University, Egypt approved the study (reference number: NUR (6/8/2023)(28)), and each participant signed the informed consent form before participation in the study. Results: Ethical leadership was positively linked to nurses' psychological safety and internal whistleblowing intentions. Psychological safety mediated the link between ethical leadership and nurses' internal whistleblowing intentions. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between nurses' job crafting, organizational identification, and work attachment., Background: Job crafting is a proactive activity in which nurses adapt the physical, cognitive, or social aspects of their jobs to make them more meaningful. Nurses are considered fundamental healthcare stakeholders who are able to transform initiatives implemented by the healthcare organization into valuable work outcomes. Nurses' perceptions of their jobs shape the community's opinion toward an organization., Methods: This is a descriptive correlational study. Two hundred seventy nurses were recruited from 1 governmental hospital in Egypt. Respondents completed the self-administered, printed questionnaires. Measures included job crafting, organizational identification, and work attachment questionnaires. Findings were investigated via descriptive and inferential statistics., Results: Over half of the nurses reported a moderate level of job crafting, whereas none of the nurses reported a high level of organizational identification.
