8. Investigation of electrical, dielectric, and relaxation metrics of SrFe12O19/Fe3O4 hexaferrite composites.

Abstract

In this work, composites were prepared from La–Co-doped strontium ferrite (SrFe12O19) and soft magnetite (Fe3O4) in a 1:5 weight ratio, spanning a range of substitutions from z = 0.0 to 0.5. The X-ray diffraction analysis of all prepared composites revealed the co-existence of hard (M-type) and soft (spinel) ferrite phases. Notably, in z = 0.0 (20% Fe3O4 of SrFe12O19) a minor trace of α -Fe2O4 was observed. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) micrographs displayed distinct particles of M-type and spinel ferrite at z = 0.0, and substitution rendered a change in grain/grain size distribution. Composition z = 0.4 exhibited the highest dielectric constant, which can be correlated with the maximum grain boundary capacitance Cgb (29.77 μ F ) calculated from impedance spectroscopy software. In contrast, z = 0.3 revealed the maximum conductivity relaxation and explained through the dense/closely packed grains observed in micrographs. The replacement of Fe3+ ions with Co–La ions caused a reduction in conductivity value and was maximum for z = 0.4 (3.26 × 10–5 Ω−1 m−1) in the high-frequency region. A segment of a semicircular arc had been observed in all synthesized composites in Z ″ vs. Z ′ Cole–Cole plots. Abstract

13. Elucidation of Structural, Morphological, Electrical Parameters, and Anti-Bacterial Activity of Polyaniline-Nanocomposite: New Paradigm of Controlling Bacterial Activity

Abstract

In this communication, we purpose an alternative electrical method to determine the anti-bacterial activity of compounds. Polyaniline/magnetite (Fe3O4/PANI) and polyaniline/hydrochloric acid (HCl/PANI) nanocomposites have been prepared. We have tested the anti-bacterial activity of Fe3O4/PANI and HCl/PANI nanocomposites by Agarwell Diffusion Assay and Bacterial Inhibition Assay method. The electrical characteristics of the prepared composites have been measured. The doping of 12% of Fe3O4 in PANI caused a substantial increase in anti-bacterial activity. The observed bacterial inhibition is in agreement with optimized values of resistivity, loss factor, quality factor, and spontaneous magnetization. Sample 2 associated with 12% Fe3O4-PANI composites has a high resistivity of $1.70\times 10^{{6}}\Omega $ .m among all prepared composites. The magnetic character and insulating nature of Fe3O4 influenced the investigated parameters. The morphological variation of prepared composites is also consistent with electrical parameters. The alleviated energy zone formed by the magnetic behavior of Fe3O4 and interfacial polarization of PANI mitigates the polarization/field of charge carriers of bacteria. These effects altogether diminish the energy of bacterial zone revealed in the experiment. The tuning of electrical parameters provides an alternative to control bacterial growth in various compounds. The proposed method of electrical characterization for the detection of the anti-bacterial activity of the compounds can be very useful in terms of time and cost in contrast to the lab tests performed in biological labs. After implementing an electrical parameter standard equivalent to anti-bacterial activity, real-time detection can be performed by electrical parameters in the fields outside without any hassle, which otherwise is not possible for biological labs.

16. C-type and Γ2 antiferromagnetic orders in the complex magnetic ordering of Yb0.6Sr0.4MnO3.

Abstract

The complex crystal and magnetic structure of strontium-doped ytterbium manganites using high-resolution neutron diffraction at low temperature starting from 2.6 K has been studied. Yb0.6Sr0.4MnO3 was crystallized with the mixed phases of crystal structure: orthorhombic with Pbnm space group enclosing Jahn–Teller Mn3+ ions, and hexagonal crystal system of P63cm space group describing JT ions free phase over the whole temperature range. From the refinement of the neutron diffraction patterns, a distinguished difference in the behaviors of the two phases was observed with a variation in temperature where opposite lattice—temperature-dependent behavior was found. The magnetic ordering in hexagonal symmetry was frustrated and was having a canted spin of Mn magnetic moments in the plane of the Г2-type symmetry. Mn ions were arranged together in the well-separated triangular layers parallel to (ab) plane as a result of the antiferromagnetic exchange interaction between the spins of atoms in the most nearest neighbors, which make the Mn spin subsystem of low-dimensional and frustrated at TN≈150 K. The other phase of the orthorhombic crystal system showed the C-type antiferromagnetic at TN≈70 K. The contribution of Yb atom in the magnetic ordering down to T = 2.6 K has not been registered. The magnetization–temperature dependence of Yb0.6Sr0.4MnO3 at different applied magnetic field was calculated using Monte Carlo simulation based on Ising model. Theoretically calculated model and experimental data were in good agreement. The complex magnetic ordering of the Yb0.6Sr0.4MnO3 for the mixed crystal structure was well described by Ising model. 19. A Signal Detection Analysis of Digitized and Photographic Image Modes and Color Realism in a Pictorial Recognition Memory Task.

Abstract

The relative effectiveness of digital versus photographic images was examined with 96 college students as subjects. A 2x2 balanced factorial design was employed to test eight hypotheses. The four groups were (1) digitized black and white; (2) digitized pseudocolor; (3) photographic black and white; and (4) photographic realistic color. Findings suggest that the use of the digitized black and white images in computerized instruction and information transmission of pictorial information provides the same pictorial information as use of the photographic black and white pictures. Adding pseudocolor to the digitized black and white photographs did not increase the distinctiveness and recognition of these pictures in the task. While there was no significant difference between the photographic black and white and photographic realistic color, photographic realistic color was preferable to digitized pseudocolor in learning from realistic scenes. Findings partially support the contention of realism theories, but the cue-summation theory was not supported by any of the findings. (LMM)

Abstract

Background: Proper assessment of the site, degree and length of laryngotracheal stenosis is essential for proper selection of the procedure and helps in anticipating future prognosis. Virtual bronchoscopy (VB) is a novel CT-based imaging technique that allows a three-dimensional (3D) evaluation of the airway. Objective:Is to assess the utility of CT virtual bronchoscopy in assessment of laryngotracheal stenosis. Patients and methods: A case series study was conducted on 26 patients diagnosed as laryngotracheal stenosis with age more than 3 years old. All patients were assessed by history, general examination and routine ear, nose and throat examination. Laryngeal examination was performed using flexible naso-pharyngo-laryngoscopy under local anesthesia. Computed tomography scanning with axial, mutiplanner reconstruction and virtual bronchoscopy images was performed for all patients using multidetector scanners to define the site, grade and length of stenotic segment. All patients were assessed by rigid bronchoscopy under general anesthesia to confirm the results of virtual bronchoscopy regarding site, grade and length of stenotic segment. Sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy were calculated for virtual bronchoscopy. Results: The sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy of virtual bronchoscopy in localizing the site of stenosis were 100% for all. The sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy of virtual bronchoscopy in grading the stenosis were 85.3%, 94.5% and 92% respectively. The sensitivity, specificity and diagnostic accuracy of virtual bronchoscopy in measuring the length of stenosis were 92.3%, 94.3% and 92% respectively. Conclusion:CT Virtual endoscopy is a highly accurate method in detection of the presence of laryngotracheal stenosis. However, it needs confirmation by rigid bronchoscopy for measurement of the grade and length of stenosis.

The temperature-dependent magnetization shows that the Curie temperature of the weak-ferromagnetic SmFeO3 decreases as Fe ions are substituted by Mn ions. A spin-reorientation transition from weak-ferromagnetism to antiferromagnetism seems to take place at low temperature, and the corresponding transition temperature essentially decreases as the Mn content increases. Abstract

The cation distributions in the B-site of the orthoferrites SmFe xMn1-xO3 (x = 0.7,0.8,0.9) were studied by 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy at room temperature. The spectra showed several nonequivalent sites of the iron ions. Five sextets were used in the fitting of the experimentally observed spectra and each one corresponds to different number of the Fe ions in the next nearest neighboring. A nonrandom cation distribution model in such compounds was proposed to interpret the multi-sextets spectra. According to the electric properties measurements, it was noted that the conductivity increases two times with increasing the Mn content but the activation energy decreases from 0.34 eV down to 0.22 eV. The sample with x = 0.7 is an electron semiconductor while the other samples display hole conduction. The magnetoresistance MR of the studied samples value is of 10% and has a negative sign at room temperature while a positive sign is obtained with temperature raising. © 2004 Elsevier B.V. Abstract

Objective The aim of the present study was to assess fibroproliferative healing after endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) by endoscopic, histopathological, and immunohistochemical (IHC) examination. The secondary objectives were to assess the correlation between fibroproliferative tissue formation and the evaluated clinical parameters. Background Fibrous tissue formation is an inevitable process during wound healing after ESS that results in the formation of sinus adhesions and synechia and is reflected on patient's comfort and recovery from sinus diseases. Materials and methods Twenty chronic rhinosinusitis patients (12 with and eight without nasal polyposis) subjected to ESS were enrolled in the study. Patients were subjected to computed tomography and preoperative endoscopic staging of sinus disease. Patients were assessed at 2, 4, and 12 weeks postoperatively through endoscopic and tissue (histopathological and IHC) evaluation. Results There is a significant increase in the degree of fibroproliferation along the three visits in the form of fibroblast and myofibroblast proliferation (H&E stain) (P = 0.001 and P 0.05). Conclusion Wound healing after functional ESS along 12 weeks is associated with microscopic fibroproliferative healing, not apparent at macroscopic levels, and is proportional to preoperative computed tomography and endoscopic and operative technique staging.

Abstract

The present work deals with the particle size effect on the electrical properties in Neodymium Cobaltate-Manganites System. Neodymium Cobaltate materials could be used as hydrogen storage materials. Nd0.6Sr0.4MnxCo1-xO3; (x = 0, 0.3, 0.7 and 1 ) were prepared using co-precipitation method from the initial pure chlorides of neodymium, strontium cobalt and manganese to react with pure sodium hydroxide with the proper molar ratio. The synthesized composites were studied in details in terms of their morphological and structural properties. The energy dispersive spectroscopy EDS reveals that the synthesized composites are in proper stoichiometry of the proposed structure. The obtained powder was pressed as disc at 2 T pressure are fired at different temperatures; 650°C, 750°C and 850°C. It was fired for 12h in each temperature. The X-ray analysis exhibited that crystal structure for all composites are the same and possessing single phase with orthorhombic crystal system of space group pnma (62). The DC resistivity as a function of temperature was measured in the range from room temperature up to 200° C. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The present paper deals with studying the magnetic and the electrical properties - structure correlation of compounds under investigation: Nd0.65Sr0.35FexMn1-xO3 (x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6 and 0.8). All samples are prepared using standard solid state reaction method and tested using X-ray and neutron diffraction. They have orthorhombic distortion perovskite-like structure of space group Pnma. It is found that the activation energy is directly proportional to the volume of unit cell. The crystal structure does not change with changing the concentration of iron where all the samples have the same space group. The transition from the pure ferromagnetic ordering into the non-collinear ordering (weak ferromagnetic) occurs at 520K for Nd0.65Sr0.35Fe0.6Mn0.4O3. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The cation distributions in the B-site of the orthoferrites SmFe xMn1-xO3 (x = 0.7,0.8,0.9) were studied by 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy at room temperature. The spectra showed several nonequivalent sites of the iron ions. Five sextets were used in the fitting of the experimentally observed spectra and each one corresponds to different number of the Fe ions in the next nearest neighboring. A nonrandom cation distribution model in such compounds was proposed to interpret the multi-sextets spectra. According to the electric properties measurements, it was noted that the conductivity increases two times with increasing the Mn content but the activation energy decreases from 0.34 eV down to 0.22 eV. The sample with x = 0.7 is an electron semiconductor while the other samples display hole conduction. Abstract

The present work deals with the structure study of. Eu0.65Sr0.35Mn1-xFexO3 (x= 0.1, 0.5, and 0.7) by X-ray diffraction. These compounds were prepared from pure 99.9% oxides using standard solid state reaction. The final sintering temperature was 1350 °C for 72 h. The X-ray analysis showed that all samples have a single perovskite structure phase, which crystallizes in orthorhombic system with space group Pbnm. An increase in the lattice volume was found upon increasing the iron concentration. The mean bond length (Mn/Fe - O) increases linearly with increasing the iron content. Less distortion in MO6 octahedron is obtained for low iron content (x=0.1). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
