Abstract Yellow ochre is the basic material used in the manufacture of yellow oxide (a commercial product). Yellow ochre samples were taken from three different formations in southwestern Sinai: Abu Hamata, Um Bogma, and Abu Zarab. Yellow ochre occasionally exists in Abu Hamata Formation particularly in El Ferah area, associated with Fe–Mn ore in Wadi El Sahu (Um Bogma Formation) and in Himayer area (Abu Zarab Formation). The XRD analysis of the raw material reveals that they are mainly composed of goethite, which is associated with quartz and kaolinite in El Ferah area, hematite, kaolinite and quartz in Himayer area, and kaolinite, gypsum and quartz in Wadi El Sahu. The commercial product is mainly composed of goethite, quartz, and calcite. The heavy mineral investigation shows that some yellow ochre samples contain zircon and rare earth sulfate which may be responsible for the radioactivity of ochre due to their thorium and uranium content. The average values of specific radio-activities of most radionuclides in the samples of Himayer area I and II, and El Sahu I are higher than the respective world averages, while their activities are lower in El Ferah and El Sahu II. Th/U and Ra/U ratios exhibit vigorous changes in physico-chemical conditions during uranium leaching and deposition. Most of the radiological parameters in the ferruginous sediment and commercial product samples from El Ferah, El Sahu II, and Himayer II are lower than the recommended international values but higher than those from Himayer I and El Sahu I samples. The plotted hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) exhibits that the main contributors for the hazards of these sediments and their commercial product are 238U, 232Th and 226Ra in Himayer I &II, commercial products, and El Ferah area, 232Th and 226Ra in El Sahu II , 232Th, 40K and 226Ra in El Sahu I.

Cisplatin remains the unchallenged standard therapy for NSCLC. However, it is not completely curative due to drug resistance and oxidative stress-induced toxicity. Drug resistance is linked to overexpression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and aberrant calcium signalling. We report synthesis of novel thiazole-triazole hybrids as MMP-9 inhibitors with T-type calcium channel blocking and antioxidant effects to sensitise NSCLC to cisplatin and ameliorate its toxicity. MTT and whole cell patch clamp assays revealed that 6d has a balanced profile of cytotoxicity (IC50 = 21 ± 1 nM, SI = 12.14) and T-type calcium channel blocking activity (⁓60% at 10 μM). It exhibited moderate ROS scavenging activity and nanomolar MMP-9 inhibition (IC50 = 90 ± 7 nM) surpassing NNGH with MMP-9 over −2 and MMP-10 over −13 selectivity. Docking and MDs simulated its receptor binding mode. Combination studies confirmed that 6d synergized with cisplatin (CI = 0.69 ± 0.05) lowering its IC50 by 6.89 folds. Overall, the study introduces potential lead adjuvants for NSCLC platinum-based therapy.

This study aimed to investigate the differences in Religiosity (R), Mental Immunity (MI), and Psychological Well-Being (PWB) in patients with diabetes due to gender and age group variables, and to detect the best predictors of PWB in diabetic patients within the Bayesian framework. The study was conducted from May 2022 to February 2023 on a random sample of 186 Saudis diagnosed with diabetes. After obtaining participants' consent, they completed three R, MI, and PWB scales. Bayesian Independent Samples t-test was performed to identify differences, and Bayesian linear regression analysis was used to reveal the best prediction model of PWB. The results of the Bayesian independent samples t-test indicated strong evidence supporting the alternative hypothesis H1, suggesting differences between male and female diabetic patients in R, MI, and PWB, with Bayesian factor values exceeding 10 (8.338×10+23, 1.762×10+25, and 1.866×10+24), and Cohen's δ of (-1.866, -1.934, -1.884). These results indicated that females with diabetes have higher means of R, MI, and PWB compared to males. However, the results also suggested evidence for the null hypothesis H0 of no differences in R, MI, and PWB among diabetic patients due to age group, with Bayesian factor values (0.176, 0.181, and 0.187) less than 1.00 and small Cohen's δ of (-0.034, -0.050, -0.063). Bayesian linear regression analysis detected strong evidence that the model including MI is the best predictive model (BF10 for mental immunity is 1.00 and for the other two models are 0.07 and 4.249×10-16) for the PWB of diabetic patients, however, there is no evidence that the model including R or the interaction between R and MI is the best predictor of PWB for diabetic patients. These findings highlight the need for direct psychological care services for male diabetic patients and the urgent need to enhance IM in diabetic patients to improve their PWB. Furthermore, results recommended that healthcare providers in Saudi Arabia integrate MI interventions into diabetes care programs.

Under simulated light irradiation, the aerobic oxidation of benzylamine to N,N-benzylidenebenzylamine was carried out as a model reaction to investigate the photocatalytic activity of a hydrothermally prepared composite based on BiOF and BiFeO3 materials. The prepared photocatalysts were characterized using several spectroscopic techniques, such as powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Band gap analysis showed that the composite exhibits a band gap that lies in the UV region (3.5 eV). Nonetheless, pristine BiOF and BiFeO3 exhibited band gaps of 3.8 eV and 2.15 eV, respectively. N,N-benzylidenebenzylamine was selectively achieved with a high conversion yield of ~80% under atmospheric conditions in which the product was confirmed using 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and FTIR spectroscopic techniques. Various control experiments were conducted to further confirm the enhanced photocatalytic performance of the reported composite.

This narrative review reports current knowledge, delivers practical guidance, and reveals challenges for the clinical management of SUDD. A broad and common consensus on the definition of SUDD is still needed. However, it is mainly considered a chronic condition that impairs quality of life (QoL) and is characterized by persistent left lower quadrant abdominal pain with bowel movement changes (eg, diarrhea) and low-grade inflammation (eg, elevated calprotectin) but without systemic inflammation. Age, genetic predisposition, obesity, physical inactivity, low-fiber diet, and smoking are considered risk factors. The pathogenesis of SUDD is not entirely clarified. It seems to result from an interaction between fecal microbiota alterations, neuro-immune enteric interactions, and muscular system dysfunction associated with a low-grade and local inflammatory state. At diagnosis, it is essential to assess baseline clinical and Quality of Life (QoL) scores to evaluate treatment efficacy and, ideally, to enroll patients in cohort studies, clinical trials, or registries. SUDD treatments aim to improve symptoms and QoL, prevent recurrence, and avoid disease progression and complications. An overall healthy lifestyle – physical activity and a high-fiber diet, with a focus on whole grains, fruits, and vegetables – is encouraged. Probiotics could effectively reduce symptoms in patients with SUDD, but their utility is missing adequate evidence. Using Rifaximin plus fiber and Mesalazine offers potential in controlling symptoms in patients with SUDD and might prevent acute diverticulitis. Surgery could be considered in patients with medical treatment failure and persistently impaired QoL. Still, studies with well-defined diagnostic criteria for SUDD that evaluate the safety, QoL, effectiveness, and cost-effectiveness of these interventions using standard scores and comparable outcomes are needed.Keywords: colonic diverticulosis, diverticulitis, irritable bowel syndrome, microbiota, treatment, probiotic

Food additives are used to protect food, increase quality and extend shelf life in many stages, from production to consumption of food. Colorants added by food producers to color food or to adjust the color to desired level are among the commonly used food additives. Considering today's developing production technologies, foods fade or discolor at various stages of processing, storage, and sale due to physical and chemical conditions such as heat, light, pH and oxygen. Colorants are used to regain these color losses, to enhance weak colors, to give color to the food that is actually colorless, and to win back the favour of customers by hiding low quality. Therefore, the most used food colorants in Canada, China, European Union, Mexico and United States of America were presented. The chemical name, chemical structure, common uses, acceptable daily intake (ADI), and toxicity literature of six most used artificial food colors were reviewed.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) use their stemness properties to perpetuate their lineage and survive chemotherapy. Currently cell-based and cell-free therapies are under investigation to develop novel anti-cancer treatment modalities. We designed this study to investigate how cell extracts of mesenchymal stem cells affect the growth of glioma stem cells in vitro. Gliospheres were generated from the U87MG cell line and treated with conditioned media of Wharton’s jelly and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. The effects were investigated at the functional and molecular levels. Our results showed that conditioned media from both types of mesenchymal stem cells changed the morphology of spheres and inhibited the proliferation, invasion, and self-renewal ability of glioma stem cells. At the molecular level, metabolism interruption at oxidative phosphorylation, cell cycle arrest, cell differentiation, and upregulation of the immune response were observed. Furthermore, this effect was mediated by the upregulation of the DKK1 gene inhibiting the Wnt pathway mediated by growth factor activity and downregulation of the KITLG gene activated by growth factor and cytokine activity, inhibiting multiple pathways. We conclude that different types of mesenchymal stem cells possess antitumor properties and their paracrine factors, in combination with anti-immune modalities, can provide practical therapeutic targets for glioblastoma treatment.

In this study, we aimed to elucidate the effects of temperature on the photoluminescence from ZnO–SiO2 nanocomposite and to describe the preparation of SiO2-coated ZnO nanocrystals using a chemical precipitation method, as confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and powder X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) techniques. Analyses using high-resolution transmission microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and electrophoretic light scattering (ELS) techniques showed that the new nanocomposite has an average size of 70 nm and 90% silica. Diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), photoluminescence (PL), and photoluminescence-excitation (PLE) measurements at different temperatures revealed two emission bands at 385 and 590 nm when the nanomaterials were excited at 325 nm. The UV and yellow emission bands were attributed to the radiative recombination and surface defects. The variable-temperature, time-resolved photoluminescence (VT-TRPL) measurements in the presence of SiO2 revealed the increase in the exciton lifetime values and the interplay of the thermally induced nonradiative recombination transfer of the excited-state population of the yellow emission via deep centers (DC). The results pave the way for more applications in photocatalysis and biomedical technology.

Background Congenital abnormalities, cancers as well as injuries can cause irreversible damage to the urinary tract, which eventually requires tissue reconstruction. Smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells, and urothelial cells are the major cell types required for the reconstruction of lower urinary tract. Adult stem cells represent an accessible source of unlimited repertoire of untransformed cells. Aim Fetal bovine serum (FBS) is the most vital supplement in the culture media used for cellular proliferation and differentiation. However, due to the increasing interest in manufacturing xeno-free stem cell-based cellular products, optimizing the composition of the culture media and the serum-type used is of paramount importance. In this study, the effects of FBS and pooled human platelet (pHPL) lysate were assessed on the capacity of human adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) to differentiate into urothelial-like cells. Also, we aimed to compare the ability of both conditioned media (CM) and unconditioned urothelial cell media (UCM) to induce urothelial differentiation of ADCS in vitro. Methods ADSCs were isolated from human lipoaspirates and characterized by flow cytometry for their ability to express the most common mesenchymal stem cell (MSCs) markers. The differentiation potential was also assessed by differentiating them into osteogenic and adipogenic cell lineages. To evaluate the capacity of ADSCs to differentiate towards the urothelial-like lineage, cells were cultured with either CM or UCM, supplemented with either 5% pHPL, 2.5% pHPL or 10% FBS. After 14 days of induction, cells were utilized for gene expression and immunofluorescence analysis. Results ADSCs cultured in CM and supplemented with FBS exhibited the highest upregulation levels of the urothelial cell markers; cytokeratin-18 (CK-18), cytokeratin-19 (CK-19), and Uroplakin-2 (UPK-2), with a 6.7, 4.2- and a 2-folds increase in gene expression, respectively. Meanwhile, the use of CM supplemented with either 5% pHPL or 2.5% pHPL, and UCM supplemented with either 5% pHPL or 2.5% pHPL showed low expression levels of CK-18 and CK-19 and no upregulation of UPK-2 level was observed. In contrast, the use of UCM with FBS has increased the levels of CK-18 and CK-19, however to a lesser extent compared to CM. At the cellular level, CK-18 and UPK-2 were only detected in CM/FBS supplemented group. Growth factor analysis revealed an increase in the expression levels of EGF, VEGF and PDGF in all of the differentiated groups. Conclusion Efficient ADSCs urothelial differentiation is dependent on the use of conditioned media. The presence of high concentrations of proliferation-inducing growth factors present in the pHPL reduces the efficiency of ADSCs differentiation towards the urothelial lineage. Additionally, the increase in EGF, VEGF and PDGF during the differentiation implicates them in the mechanism of urothelial cell differentiation.

Essential thrombocythemia (ET) is a myeloproliferative neoplasm that occurs mostly in patients above the age of 50 years. Its incidence in children is very rare, with around 100 cases reported in the literature. High-risk patients are defined by previous life threatening major thrombotic or severe hemorrhagic complication or age > 60. Those patients probably benefit from cytoreductive therapy. On the other hand, antiplatelet drugs are recommended for patients with low risk group. Although rare, ET should be considered in the differential diagnosis of persistent thrombocytosis in children, even at a very young age. A constellation of clinical, pathologic ,and molecular testing are essential for diagnosis. Given the rarity of these cases, there is currently no consensus for treatment guidelines in children, especially in asymptomatic patients. We describe a case of a two-year old girl who presented with unexplained, isolated thrombocytosis which persisted for eight years. Bone marrow biopsy demonstrated typical features of ET. Over the course of the disease, hydroxyurea, but not aspirin, showed better control of symptoms and lowered the platelets level.

Background Cellular therapy clinical applications require large-scale production of stem cells. Therefore, abundance, ease of isolation, and proliferative potential are the most important factors in choosing the appropriate source of cells for transplantation studies. Multipotent stem cells obtained from periodontal ligament (PDL) can be used in periodontal tissue regeneration. In this study, we aimed to evaluate and compare the characteristics of periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs), extracted by either enzymatic digestion or explant methods, and expanded using two different serum types: fetal bovine serum (FBS) and xeno-free platelet lysate (PL). Methods Expanded PDLSCs were assessed for their proliferation capacity, surface markers expression, colony formation, differentiation potential and ability to self-renewal. Most importantly, PDLSCs were evaluated for their ability to produce osteoblasts in vitro. Results PDLSCs isolated by explant method and expanded in PL serve as a promising source of stem cells for osteoblasts regeneration. These cells showed higher proliferation capacity, they retained their stemness characteristics throughout the passages and they revealed an increase in the expression level of osteogenic markers, without showing any karyotypic abnormalities after cell expansion. Conclusions PDLSCs produced using explant extraction method and expanded in cell culture media supplemented with PL provide an excellent source of xeno-free cells for the generation of functional osteoblasts.

The aim of this study to Evaluate the effect of high temperatures on specimens of Self-compacted concrete in slabs under static and impact loads . The study contents the experimental work to investigate the effect of high temperatures on some properties of self-Compacted concrete. Fifty four concrete slab samples has been casted with dimensions of ( 500*500*50mm), the specimens were exposed to high temperature by using furnace manufactured for this purpose for (2hrs) then cooled by two methods, gradually by lefting them in the air, and suddenly by using water , After that the specimens were tested to study the effect of different temperature levels(100,300,500,700) °C and cooling rate (gradually and sudden cooling conditions) on the behavior of reinforced concrete slabs under static and dynamic loads, and comparing the results with specimens without burning (reference specimens). The results showed decreasing in bending strength and Toughness of the slabs reinforced after exposure to high temperatures compared with the reference slabs . High temperatures decreased the value of the maximum load for slabs in percentage (0.398%,7.56%,15.27%,29%) compared with the reference slab after exposure to temperature change (100,300,500,700) °C and cooled gradually in air after heating, while the decreasing reached ( 2.12%,10.76%,24.3%,39.97% ) compared with the reference slab at the same temperatures when cooled suddenly by water. This study also has been investigated the behavior of reinforced concrete slabs Exposed to high temperatures under the influence of dynamic impact load and comparing these results with concrete reference slab , Where the tests using the steel structure used in dynamic loads which provided with Linear Variable displacement transducers under the slab. These data was recorded for a period of time begins at the moment Damping in slab occur , Curves were drawn to show (displacement – time relation of slab), The results showed decreasing of slabs impact resistance (the number of blows needed to penetrate ) with the increasing of temperatures. As well as the temperature increased the max displacement and time extinguishing of concrete slabs. where in used the results showed that the reinforced slabs cooled gradually by the air after heating has a dynamic properties better than those which cooled suddenly by water.

Background:Combination analgesics provide more effective pain relief for a broader spectrum of pain. This research examines the possible potentiation of the analgesic effect of different classes of antidepressants when combined with aspirin in thermal model of pain using Albino mice.Methods:Different groups of six animals each were injected intraperitoneally by different doses of aspirin (50, 100, or 200 mg/kg), imipramine (2.5, 7.5, 15 or 30 mg/kg), fluoxetine (1.25, 2.5, 5 or 7.5 mg/kg), mirtazapine (1.25, 2.5, or 5 mg/kg) and a combination of a fixed dose of aspirin (100 mg/kg) with the different doses of the three antidepressants. One hour later the analgesic effect of these treatments were evaluated against thermally induced pain. All data were subjected to statistical analysis using unpaired Student's t-test.Results:Aspirin had no analgesic effect in thermally induced pain. The three selected antidepressants produced dose dependent analgesia. The addition of a fixed dose of aspirin to imipramine significantly increased the reaction time (RT) of the lowest dose (by 23%) and the highest dose (by 20%). The addition of the fixed dose of aspirin to fluoxetine significantly increased RT by 13% of the dose 2.5 mg/Kg. Finally, the addition of the fixed dose of aspirin significantly potentiated the antinociceptive effect of the different doses of mirtazapine (RT was increased by 24, 54 and 38% respectively).Conclusion:Combination of aspirin with an antidepressant might produce better analgesia, increasing the efficacy of pain management and reduces side effects by using smaller doses of each drug.

In 2018 we celebrated 25 years of development of radar altimetry, and the progress achieved by this methodology in the fields of global and coastal oceanography, hydrology, geodesy and cryospheric sciences. Many symbolic major events have celebrated these developments, e.g., in Venice, Italy, the 15th (2006) and 20th (2012) years of progress and more recently, in 2018, in Ponta Delgada, Portugal, 25 Years of Progress in Radar Altimetry. On this latter occasion it was decided to collect contributions of scientists, engineers and managers involved in the worldwide altimetry community to depict the state of altimetry and propose recommendations for the altimetry of the future. This paper summarizes contributions and recommendations that were collected and provides guidance for future mission design, research activities, and sustainable operational radar altimetry data exploitation. Recommendations provided are fundamental for optimizing further scientific and operational advances of oceanographic observations by altimetry, including requirements for spatial and temporal resolution of altimetric measurements, their accuracy and continuity. There are also new challenges and new openings mentioned in the paper that are particularly crucial for observations at higher latitudes, for coastal oceanography, for cryospheric studies and for hydrology. The paper starts with a general introduction followed by a section on Earth System Science including Ocean Dynamics, Sea Level, the Coastal Ocean, Hydrology, the Cryosphere and Polar Oceans and the “Green” Ocean, extending the frontier from biogeochemistry to marine ecology. Applications are described in a subsequent section, which covers Operational Oceanography, Weather, Hurricane Wave and Wind Forecasting, Climate projection. Instruments’ development and satellite missions’ evolutions are described in a fourth section. A fifth section covers the key observations that altimeters provide and their potential complements, from other Earth observation measurements to in situ data. Section 6 identifies the data and methods and provides some accuracy and resolution requirements for the wet tropospheric correction, the orbit and other geodetic requirements, the Mean Sea Surface, Geoid and Mean Dynamic Topography, Calibration and Validation, data accuracy, data access and handling (including the DUACS system). Section 7 brings a transversal view on scales, integration, artificial intelligence, and capacity building (education and training). Section 8 reviews the programmatic issues followed by a conclusion.
