Novel copper metal organic framework nanoparticles Cu-MOF-NPs (C1) were prepared via two simple alternative methods and confirmed by analytical characterization using mass, IR, Raman, XRD spectrum, HR-TEM and TGA-DSC. Mass spectroscopy revealed the molecular ion peak at 647 m/z for the monomeric unit structure n[Cu(AIP)2(PIY)(H2O)2]·4H2O, the presence of which was further supported by mass fragmentation. The Raman spectrum revealed two separate peaks corresponding to D and G bands of carbon in the structure of C1. Moreover, TGA-DSC showed the presence of CuO. XRD data were typically consistent with Raman and TGA-DSC data. In addition, HR-TEM revealed that the morphology of the C1 nanoparticles is uniform with well-distributed elliptical/spherical particles with a size range from 7 to 19 nm. The spectrophotometric and biological activity studies based on Cu-MOF-NPs were analyzed. The results indicated that Cu-MOF-NPs (C1) were successfully used as biosensors for the assessment of the triiodothyronine hormone (T3). The calibration plot was achieved over the concentration range of 40.0–100.0 ng dl−1 T3 with limits of detection (LOD) and quantitation (LOQ) of 1.46 and 4.85 ng dl−1, respectively, and a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.973. Moreover, the Cu-MOF-NPs (C1) show more enhanced biological activity against various pathogens (five strains of bacteria: Gram positive and Gram negative) when compared to an antibacterial agent and the effectiveness of Cu-MOF-NPs increases with increasing particle dose. Nowadays, in the clinical, pharmaceutical, and environmental sectors, the development of facile and sensitive analytical methods and/or innovative devices for the follow-up and detection of antibiotics and pharmaceutical formulations, in general, are urgently needed and still challenging. This work declared three vital applications for broad-spectrum nitrofurantoin (macrofuran) antibiotic detection and quantification: A colorimetric method, a coated paper strip-based nano-lanthanum complex prototype and fabrication of smart electronic color sensor device-based coated paper strips. The colorimetric method showed a significant response upon increasing the concentration of the nitrofurantoin in a range between (1.0–100.0 ng/mL) via a visual color change from orange-yellow to red colors degree with detection and quantification limits of 0.175 and 0.53 ng/mL, respectively, whereas the nano-lanthanum complex coated paper strip prototype showed qualitative on-site sensing for nitrofurantoin via naked eye color changes which can be detected anywhere. Moreover, a smart prototype for detecting macrofuran in the means of paper color change in the RGB color component extraction algorithm and the grayscale projection value processing algorithm was fabricated. The change in RGB color on the coated paper strip was detected using an electronic color sensor device. The developed colorimetric method, coated paper strip, and the electronic color sensor device prototype exhibited fast, simple, costless, and selective towards macrofuran over the competing analyzed. For the first time, alpha‐fetoprotein (AFP) quantification as an early test for liver cancer diagnosis competing with other interfering analytes and factors based on a novel nano‐magnetic metal–organic framework (MOF) was investigated. The novel nano‐magnetic MOF was synthesized via a simple preparation method, and characterized using various techniques. The X‐ray photoelectron spectrum of the nano‐magnetic MOF shows Cu 2p, O 1s, N 1s and C 1s peaks that evidence the presence of these elements in the sample without any impurities. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy images show the nano‐magnetic MOF with average size between 22 and 43 nm. The results of a photoluminescence study show that the nano‐magnetic MOF exhibits strong emission at 418 nm after excitation at 354 nm. Moreover, a Stern–Völmer graph shows a linear calibration curve over an AFP concentration range 1.0–520 ng ml−1 with a correlation coefficient of 0.997, detection limit of 1.18 ng ml−1 and quantitation limit of 3.58 ng ml−1. According to the marked quenching of the photoluminescence intensity of the nano‐magnetic MOF using various concentrations of AFP, it was successfully used as a biosensor for AFP in serum samples collected from hepatitis patients in addition to healthy males and females. The quenching mechanism was well studied, and found to be a dynamic type. The present work offers a simple, low‐cost, room‐temperature and rapid technique, being non‐time‐consuming, highly accurate, selective and highly sensitive compared with most published methods. A copper metal–organic framework nanoparticles (Cu‐MOF‐NPs) synthesized via simple technique. The prepared Cu‐MOF‐NPs nanoparticles were further characterized using 1H‐NMR, FE‐SEM/EDX and thermal study (DSC/TGA). The FE‐SEM/EDX, thermal analysis, and NMR spectrum data with the other analysis support the nano‐Cu‐MOF structure and the monomeric unit (n[Cu (AIP)2(APY)(H2O)2].4H2O) of Cu‐MOF‐NPs. The photoluminescence (PL) studies of triiodothyronine hormone (T3) based on the prepared Cu‐MOF‐NPs investigated. The results revealed that the Cu‐MOF‐NPs might be used as a biosensor in the determination of triiodothyronine hormone (T3) in biological fluids through a significant quenching of the photoluminescence intensity of Cu‐MOF‐NPs at excitation wavelength 492 nm. The calibration plot achieved over the concentration range 0.0–200.0 ng/dL T3 hormone with a correlation coefficient 0.996 and limit of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) 0.198 and 0.60 ng/dL, respectively. The PL spectra are indicating that Cu‐MOF‐NPs has highly selective sensing properties for T3 hormone without interfering with other human many hormones types. In this paper, a novel lanthanum metal–organic framework La‐MOF was prepared via hydrothermal and reflux methods. The La‐MOF was achieved through the reaction of a 5‐amino‐isophthalic acid with 1, 2‐phenylenediamine and lanthanum chloride. The prepared La‐MOF structure was confirmed by XRD, mass spectrometry, IR, UV–Vis and elemental analysis, whereas the size, and morphology was examined by FE‐SEM/EDX and HR‐TEM. The results indicated that the La‐MOF prepared via both methods have the same structure and composition. Meanwhile, the MOF yield, reaction time, morphology, physiochemical and sensing properties were highly depended on the used preparation method. The photoluminescence (PL) study was carried out for the La‐MOF, and the results showed that La‐MOF exhibits strong emission at 558 nm after excitation at 369 nm. Moreover, the PL data indicating that the La‐MOF has highly selective sensing properties for iron (III) competing with different metal ions. The Stern‐Völmer graph shows a linear calibration curve which achieved over a concentration range 1.0–500 μM of Fe3+ with a correlation coefficient, detection, and quantitation limits 0.998, 1.35 μM and 4.08 μM, respectively. According to the remarkable quenching of the PL intensity of La‐MOF using various concentrations of Fe3+, it was successfully used as a sensor for Fe3+detecting in different water resources (pure and waste) samples. The quenching mechanism was studied and it has a dynamic type and due to efficient energy transfer between the La‐MOF and Fe3+. A novel La‐MOF was synthesized and well characterized via two simple method, a unique morphology of the prepared nano‐rods and nanosheets of La‐MOF remarkably quenched by Fe3+ and not effected by other common metal ions.
