When it comes to efficiently developing and implementing a language program, doing a needs analysis is necessary. Thus, to fulfill students' English language demands in the International Class Program (ICP) of the Biology Department at Universitas Negeri Makassar, it is important to ascertain the learning requirements of students. This study aimed to find out students’ expectations about English learning materials, and to assess their efforts to achieve it. This study employed a mixed-method approach to assess the needs of the students, integrating both qualitative and quantitative research approaches. The research included a total of 34 participants, comprising 31 second-year students enrolled in ICP of the Biology Department, 1 English lecturer, and 2 alums of the same program. The questionnaire and the interview were the instruments used to gather information. The study's results showed that students need English learning materials that are related to what they are studying. To improve their English, it was very important for the students to have access to the right English materials. Researchers looked at the learning needs of the students and found that they all had different levels of English ability. The students thought that reading and speaking were the most important skills to learn in order to be fluent in English. The most common problem the students had was incorrect grammar use. The students who took part in the ICP had different ways of learning, as shown by the analysis of goal needs. Some of these ways were reading English-language books and watching videos or movies. The most important ones were to improve their self-esteem and get ready for future job prospects. Reading English-language books, watching movies, and listening to music were the main things that students did to improve their English language skills.

Pancasila and Citizenship Education (PCE) are crucial for developing active, critical, and responsible citizens. Critical thinking is a key competency students should acquire through PCE. This study aims to analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of the Project Citizen learning model utilising a Scientific Approach in enhancing students' critical thinking skills. The long-term objective is to provide junior high school teachers with examples of innovative learning models applicable to all subjects and recommend to relevant agencies to implement the Project Citizen model in PCE to boost critical thinking abilities. This research focuses on creating effective learning models and frameworks for instilling character values in schools. Using a quantitative quasi-experimental design, the study's population consists of all Public Junior High School 3 Kendari students, with a sample drawn from two eighth-grade classes. Data collection involved attitude scale questionnaires, observations, and interviews. Statistical methods were used for quantitative data analysis, while qualitative data were analysed descriptively. The analysis included normality tests, homogeneity tests, comparisons of means, and calculations of normalised gains. Hypothesis testing revealed a significant difference in the effectiveness of the Project Citizen model based on the Scientific Approach compared to conventional teaching methods in improving critical thinking skills at Public Junior High School 3 Kendari.

A new species of the mycoheterotrophic genus Thismia from Malaysia is described and illustrated. Thismia malayana introduced here was found in two localities: in the lowlands of Gunung Angsi Forest Reserve, Negeri Sembilan, and in the hilly dipterocarp forests of Gunung Benom in Tengku Hassanal Wildlife Reserve, Pahang. Thismia malayana falls into the section Thismia subsect. Odoardoa, as it has creeping vermiform roots and free equal tepals. It is characterised by the following taxonomically important features: a sepia-brown, urceolate-curved floral tube, free equal tepals with terminal appendages, prominent bright yellow annulus and bright violet-blue stamens each bearing five appendages (one pair of club-shaped inwards-pointing, one pair of acute outwards-pointing, and one central appendage). According to the categories and criteria of the IUCN Red List, T. malayana is provisionally classified as Vulnerable.

To evaluate the retinal nerve fibre layer (RNFL) thickness and choroidal thickness (CT) in Parkinson disease (PD) patients. A comparative cross-sectional, hospital-based study. 39 PD and 39 controls were recruited, who were gender and age matched. Subjects that fulfilled the inclusion criteria underwent optical coherence tomography for evaluation of RNFL thickness and choroidal thickness (CT). There was significant reduction of RNFL thickness in average (adjusted mean 88.87 µm vs. 94.82 µm, P=0.001), superior (adjusted mean 110.08 µm vs. 119.10 µm, P=0.002) and temporal (adjusted mean 63.77 µm vs. 70.36 µm, P=0.004) in PD compared to controls. The central subfoveal CT was significantly thinner in PD compared to controls (adjusted mean 271.13 µm vs. 285.10 µm, P=0.003). In PD group, there was significant weak negative correlation between the duration of PD with average RNFL thickness (r=–0.354, P=0.027), moderate negative correlation between the duration of PD with central subfoveal CT (r=–0.493, P=0.001), and weak negative correlation between the stage of PD with central subfoveal CT (r=–0.380, P=0.017). PD group had significant thinner average, superior and temporal RNFL thickness and CT compared to controls.

This study aims: 1) to reveal types of code mixing that appeared in the Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika 2 movie and 2) to find out factors that cause code mixing in this movie. This study employed a descriptive qualitative method. In collecting data, this research applied note-taking as an instrument. To obtain data, the dialogues of the characters were analyzed thoroughly. Researchers implemented the theory of code-mixing by Muysken (2000) to find the types and the view of code-mixing factors from Hoffman (1991) for the analysis. The research results revealed three types of code mixing contained in this movie. They are insertion type (7 data or 29.17%), alternation type (12 data or 50%), and congruent lexicalization type (5 data or 20.83%). In addition, factors of code-mixing are also found in this movie. They are the lexical needs factor (9 data or 37.5%), emphasize something factor (3 data or 12.5%), talking about a particular topic factor (5 data or 20.83%), repetition used for clarification factor (2 data or 16.64%), soften or strengthen request or command factor (2 data or 8.33%, and expressing group identity factor (1 data or 4.16%). The most common form of code-mixing in this film is alternation when one language is used to fill in for another's lexical gaps throughout a conversation. They spoke in turn, and researchers found that a single sentence may be expressed in two languages with vastly different grammatical structures.

Abstract Coastal zone has high value of socioeconomic activities. The number of developments and activities at the coastal areas of various sectors has increased day by day. Tsunami hazard is classified as one of the most devastating natural disasters that cause destruction along the coastal areas resulted to human fatalities. There are many causes of tsunami, but the most common is due to earthquake in the ocean. Previously recognised as a safe zone from natural disasters of tsunami, Malaysia was confronted by a rude awakening of the 2004 Andaman tsunami, causing a total loss of 68 lives. However, the potential impacts of tsunamis towards Malaysia coastal areas, especially at East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia, have not been explored extensively. This study, therefore, is critical and pertinent. It aims to investigate the potential seismic activities that generate tsunami occurrences affecting East Coast Peninsular Malaysia. This study further simulates Manila Trench earthquake-induced tsunami at various earthquake intensities, namely Mw 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0, by using TUNA model. Results obtained from this study indicated that tsunami wave generated by Manila Trench earthquake at Mw 9.0 resulted to the highest disastrous effects towards East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Findings from this study have established that Kelantan will experience the highest inundation depth at 4.0 m in Pasir Puteh with the highest inland inundation distance at 5.5 km in Bachok. Besides that, Terengganu will experience the highest inundation depth at 6.0 m in Kuala Terengganu with the highest inland inundation distance at 6.0 km also in Kuala Terengganu. In Pahang, the highest inundation depth at 4.5 m with the highest inland inundation distance at 3.3 km is anticipated to experience in Pekan, while in Johor, the highest inundation depth at 1.2 m with the highest inland inundation distance at 0.4 km is anticipated to experience in Mersing. On the other hand, Mw 8.0 and 7.0 earthquake was expected to be insignificant upon arriving at the coastal areas. Mitigation measures and evacuation plans can be effectively planned as findings obtained from this study are able to provide vital information on the possibilities of tsunami waves occurrences to overcome massive losses of properties and life.

The manufacturing industry is pushing forward with the smart machineries, linked networks, and a smart environment to enhance Big Data’s operations – gaining intelligence and actionable real-time insights for higher efficient and smart production. However, in many parts of the manufacturing industry, manual monitoring system is still the usual practice, especially the long-established plants that consist of legacy machines. The monitoring processes of the lines in Top Glove F31 such as recording the lines’ downtime duration, checking the source of the stoppage, transferring the data into spreadsheet, and analyzing the downtime of the lines are all being carried out by human operators. There is a high tendency for the workers to overlook the maintenance of the system because of this work practice, and it will contribute to higher unplanned downtime of the lines. Thus, this project proposes to design an automatic downtime monitoring system that consists of sensors, PLC’s programming, and IoT technologies that can decrease the dependency on workers and not prone to human mistakes to reduce the unplanned downtime of the lines and increase the efficiency of the system.

Detail English literary materials were selected and processed to establish a course-book to be implemented in Junior-High Schools. The materials were designed to ignite students’ language study skills namely inspiration, interactivity and creativity as important aspects in English education. The study was a developmental research and experimental study. The data were collected through (a) an English essay test involving different difficulty levels of questions (cognitive, analytic, evaluative and creative), and (b) classroom observation and interview. Results from this study identified that the learning processes and learning results clearly reflected the three language study skills. By providing and facilitating proper interactive reading materials and a lively atmosphere of classroom discussion, students got inspired to get their own ideas, got free to write their own sentences and this circumstance assigned students to become more creative. Such content of an inspirational, interactive and creative course book must be relevant to the students’ preferences like interest and need to induce students think critically by relating things into facts.

Pemanfaatan dan pengolahan limbah kotoran menjadi pupuk organik bertujuan untuk menghasilkan suatu produk olahan yang memiliki nilai tambah dibandingkan dengan sebelum dilakukan pengolahan. Pengolahan limbah sapi ini dilatarbelakangi dengan kurangnya kesadaran masyarakat Desa Buwek tentang pengolahan limbah sapi dan manfaatnya bagi tanah kering. Alternatif solusi yang dapat dilakukan untuk mengatasi kendala tersebut dengan pemanfaatan dan pemanfaatan limbah sapi pupuk. Tujuan dari program ini adalah dapat memanfaatkan limbah sapi sehingga dapat digunakan sebagai pupuk organik, sebagai media tanam polybag atau pawon urip karena kondisi tanah Desa Buwek termasuk tanah kering dan dapat meningkatkan pendapatan masyarakat Desa Buwek. Metode yang digunakan adalah proses menjelajahi area sasaran yakni Desa Buwek, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan observasi dan wawancara langsung antara kami dari KKN posko 85 Universitas Islam Negeri Kiai Haji Achmad Siddiq Jember dengan masyarakat. Setelah kami melakukan penyuluhan kepada masyarakat bersama Unit Dinas Pertanian Unit Pelaksana Teknis Balai Penyuluhan Pertanian (UPT-BPP) Kecamatan Randuagung, mengatur jadwal penyuluhan, kemudian melakukan penyuluhan tentang pemanfaatan dan pengolahan limbah sapi menjadi pupuk organik. Hasil dari program pemberdayaan masyarakat ini adalah masyarakat Desa Buwek dapat mengembangkan program pembuatan pupuk organik dari limbah pertanian dan memanfaatkan pupuk organik sebagai media tanam untuk membuat pawon urip atau polybag sebagai upaya berkelanjutan dari program pengembangan.

Sterculia foetida derived biodiesel is a potential fuel for a diesel engine. The Sterculia foetida biodiesel required a pre-refining process called degumming and an acid pretreatment process before converting them to methyl ester using the transesterification process. This study blended fuel from Sterculia foetida biodiesel and diesel with different volume ratios (5% to 30% of biodiesel blend with 95% to 70% diesel fuel). Sterculia foetida biodiesel and blended fuels met the ASTM D6751 and EN 14214 standards. The blended fuel is examined to obtain its influences on the performance and emission when operating at a diesel engine (1300 rpm to 2400 rpm). From the outcome, the engine performance of the SFB5 blend shows better performance than diesel fuel in terms of BTE (28.84%) and BSFC (5.86%). Artificial neural networks and extreme learning machines were employed to predict engine performance and exhaust emissions. The developed models gave excellent results, where the coefficient of determination is more than 99% and 98% for BSFC and BTE, respectively. When the engine is operated with SFB5, there is a significant reduction in CO, HC, and smoke opacity emissions by 8.26%, 2.08%, and 3.08%, respectively, and at the same time, an increase in CO2 by 3.53% and NOXby 22.39%. The comparison is made with diesel fuel. The extreme learning machine modelling is powerful for predicting engine performance and exhaust emission compared to artificial neural networks in terms of prediction accuracy. Sterculia foetida biodiesel–diesel blends of 5% show its capability to replace diesel fuel by providing engine peak performance than diesel fuel.

This research determines the student's learning strategies based on their learning styles. This research applied qualitative study. The subject of this research is the students of English literature class A in Universitas Negeri Makassar, who were selected through a purposive sampling technique. Thirty-five students were chosen as the subjects of this study. The data were obtained through questionnaires and interviews and then analyzed based on producers of data analysis identification, classification, and descriptive analysis. The result showed that i) there are some learning styles that students have, such as visual, auditory, and kinesthetic (VAK) learning styles; and ii) students' learning strategies based on their learning style where subjects engaged in several learning activities or methodologies. Two types of learning techniques were primarily considered: individual and group strategies. The individual strategies were marked by all of the activities the subjects had done, and the group strategies described the learning actions employed by the subjects to comprehend the knowledge or the lesson by engaging friends who could help them.

Solar Heat for Industrial Process (SHIP) systems are a clean source of alternative and renewable energy for industrial processes. A typical SHIP system consists of a solar panel connected with a thermal storage system along with necessary piping. Predictive maintenance and condition monitoring of these SHIP systems are essential to prevent system downtime and ensure a steady supply of heated water for a particular industrial process. This paper proposes the use of recurrent neural network-based predictive models to forecast solar thermal process parameters. Data of five process parameters namely - Solar Irradiance, Solar Collector Inlet & Outlet Temperature, and Flux Calorimeter Readings at two points were collected throughout a four-month period. Two variants of RNN, including LSTM and Gated Recurrent Units, were explored and the performance for this forecasting task was compared. The results show that Root Mean Square Errors (RMSE) between the actual and predicted values were 0.4346 (Solar Irradiance), 61.51 (Heat Meter 1), 23.85 (Heat Meter 2), Inlet Temperature (0.432) and Outlet Temperature (0.805) respectively. These results open up possibilities for employing a deep learning based forecasting method in the application of SHIP systems. ABSTRAK: Penggunaan sumber bersih seperti Tenaga Solar dalam Proses Industri (SHIP) adalah satu kaedah alternatif untuk menhasilkan tenaga yang boleh diperbaharui bagi mengurangkan kesan gas rumah hijau yang terhasil dari proses industri. Sistem SHIP biasanya mengandungi panel solar dan sistem penyimpanan haba yang berhubung melalui paip yang sesuai. Penyelengaraan secara berkala diperlukan bagi memastikan sistem ini sentiasa membekalkan tenaga solar pada kadar bersesuaian dan bekalan tenaga solar yang terhasil berterusan dan tidak menjejaskan sistem pemanasan air bagi sesuatu proses industri. Kajian ini mencadangkan penggunaan model ramalan rangkaian neural berulang bagi meramal parameter proses pemanasan solar. Kelima-lima parameter proses iaitu – Iradiasi Solar, Suhu Saluran Keluar & Masuk Pengumpul Solar dan Bacaan Kalorimeter Fluks pada dua tempat diambil sepanjang empat bulan (dari Julai 2021 sehingga Oktober 2021). Dapatan menunjukkan dua varian RNN termasuk LSTM dan Unit Berulang dapat dibanding prestasinya bagi tugas ramalan ini. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan Ralat Punca Min Kuasa Dua (RMSE) antara bacaan sebenar dan ramalan adalah masing-masing 0.4346 (Iradiasi Solar), 61.51 (Meter Terma 1), 23.85 (Meter Terma 2), Suhu Salur Masuk (0.432) and Suhu Salur Keluar (0.805). Ini membuka peluang kajian mendalam berdasarkan kaedah ramalan dalam aplikasi sistem SHIP.

This paper presents a Patient-Specific Aneurysm Model (PSAM) analyzed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The PSAM combines the energy strain function and stress–strain relationship of the dilated vessel wall to predict the rupture of aneurysms. This predictive model is developed by analyzing ultrasound images acquired with a 6–9 MHz Doppler transducer, which provides real-time data on the arterial deformations. The patient-specific cyclic loading on the PSAM is extrapolated from the strain energy function developed using historical stress–strain relationships. Multivariant factors are proposed to locate points of arterial weakening that precede rupture. Biaxial tensile tests are used to calculate the material properties of the artery wall, enabling the observation of the time-dependent material response in wall rupture formation. In this way, correlations between the wall deformation and tissue failure mode can predict the aneurysm’s propensity to rupture. This method can be embedded within the ultrasound measures used to diagnose potential AAA ruptures.

This study analyses and presents accounting academics' experiences in six universities in Australia, Malaysia, and Indonesia to adapt to the swift change to the remote virtual classroom delivery model forced by the COVID-19 pandemic, while also gaining valuable lessons from this unique situation. In this study, autoethnography's basic principles were used. The main results suggest that the universities' combined current information and communication technologies, learning management systems, blended learning experiences, training, and supports, although not without hitches, were able to accommodate the shift to a remote virtual classroom model quite effectively. However, the move to fully online assessment has been conceded to likely increase the embedded risk of student cheating. The availability of reliable internet connection for students is also crucial in ensuring access equality and effective remote virtual classroom delivery.

The alternative energy generation sources have increased drastically from centralized systems to distributed systems which increases the stability of energy distribution management systems and reduces the distribution cost as well. On the other hand, it reduces the probability of major area electricity blackout chances and decreases the energy distribution loss. For proper distribution and management of energy, there are different types of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things (IoT) available, but a blockchain automated system is one of the best choices and is highly recommended. Various aspects of blockchain technology and energy management system have been discussed in this review paper where a total number of 423 journal papers, articles, and online information sources have been reviewed in the initial stage, and finally, 63 published research articles have been selected for review. There are several topics, including technology overview in energy management systems, blockchain application of energy trading, blockchain technology implementation challenges, distributed energy management system with Ethereum, and a conclusion with some recommendations have been discussed. Blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) are highly transparent, authenticate, and secure systems that can be used for distributing the energy between distributor and consumer without an intermediator which increases the overall efficiency of the system. This paper aims to highlight the blockchain and distributed ledger technology and how it works as well as optimize the transaction processing cost among the participants of the consortium network. This paper will make a significant contribution to the new research work and in the field of energy management systems.

This review provides the recent advances in triglyceride catalytic pyrolysis using heterogeneous dolomite catalysts for upgrading biofuel quality. The production of high-quality renewable biofuels through catalytic cracking pyrolysis has gained significant attention due to their high hydrocarbon and volatile matter content. Unlike conventional applications that require high operational costs, long process times, hazardous material pollution, and enormous energy demand, catalytic cracking pyrolysis has overcome these challenges. The use of CaO, MgO, and activated dolomite catalysts has greatly improved the yield and quality of biofuel, reducing the acid value of bio-oil. Modifications of the activated dolomite surface through bifunctional acid–base properties also positively influenced bio-oil production and quality. Dolomite catalysts have been found to be effective in catalyzing the pyrolysis of triglycerides, which are a major component of vegetable oils and animal fats, to produce biofuels. Recent advances in the field include the use of modified dolomite catalysts to improve the activity and selectivity of the catalytic pyrolysis process. Moreover, there is also research enhancement of the synthesis and modification of dolomite catalysts in improving the performance of biofuel yield conversion. Interestingly, this synergy contribution has significantly improved the physicochemical properties of the catalysts such as the structure, surface area, porosity, stability, and bifunctional acid–base properties, which contribute to the catalytic reaction’s performance.

The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated the adoption of online learning methods worldwide, including in Malaysia. The Ministry of Education (MoE) in Malaysia has recognized the importance of online learning due to the implementation of Movement Control Order (MCO). However, the limitations of online learning, such as reduced interaction between teachers and pupils, have prompted educators to explore alternative approaches that emphasize self-directed learning. Hence, this study aimed to develop a learning method based on the heutagogy approach using the Telegram platform and examine its impact on science process skills and creative thinking skills in primary school pupils. The study employed a quantitative research design with a pre-experimental design and involved 20 Year 5 pupils. Pre-post tests were conducted to assess the skills, and the data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential analysis techniques. The descriptive analysis revealed a mean improvement in both Science process skills and Creative thinking skills following the intervention with the heutagogy approach. Furthermore, the inferential analysis confirmed a significant difference between pre- and post-test scores for both skills after integrating the heutagogy approach. The positive findings of this study shed light on the efficacy of the heutagogy approach in online learning, particularly in the context of science education for primary school pupils. These results offer valuable insights to educators who can consider incorporating the heutagogy approach into their teaching practices. By doing so, educators can enhance the learning experiences and outcomes of their pupils in science education.

The purpose of this investigation was to identify, examine, and analyse the opinions of four international postgraduate students who embarked on a service-learning project required by the course taken in Semester 2, 2021/2022. It included engaging in community service, connection to their academic endeavours, reporting the outcomes, critical reflection, and reciprocity. Choral speaking activities were selected as the tool for their engagement with children in the community. The qualitative approach was chosen as the research design, employing in-depth semi-structured interviews. The findings pointed to the beneficial aspects of service-learning which include: (1) enhances multicultural understanding; (2) improves civic involvement; (3) acknowledges that academic work has real-world importance; and (4) promotes language learning as well as reciprocity, that need to be improved.

Augmented Reality (AR) has emerged in our educational paradigm as a new tool to accelerate change in the teaching and learning process. This technology can improve students' visualisation skills, which helps them understand abstract concepts, especially in Chemistry. Furthermore, visualisation skills help improve students' critical thinking. This study was conducted with 16 secondary students. Before and after the intervention, students were required to complete a Purdue Spatial Visualisation Test to measure their visualisation skills. During four weeks of intervention, students explored the content using a mobile augmented reality application for learning chemical bonds (called CBOND) and completed critical thinking tasks each week. This study employed data mining using a decision tree to predict the path to improving students' visualisation and critical thinking skills in learning chemical bonds. The results revealed that CBOND had a significant effect on students' visualisation and critical thinking development. Therefore, this study proved that augmented reality technology could help students to visualise abstract concepts, especially in Chemistry, and in turn, foster their higher level of critical thinking.

The utilization of fossil fuel has increased atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations drastically over the last few decades. This leads to global warming and climate change, increasing the occurrence of more severe weather around the world. One promising solution to reduce anthropogenic CO2 emissions is methanation. Many researchers and industries are interested in CO2 methanation as a power-to-gas technology and carbon capture and storage (CCS) system. Producing an energy carrier, methane (CH4), via CO2 methanation and water electrolysis is an exceptionally effective method of capturing energy generated by renewables. To enhance methanation efficiency, numerous researches have been conducted to develop catalysts with high activity, CH4 selectivity, and stability against the reaction heat. Therefore, in this mini-review, the characteristics and recent advances of metal-based catalysts in methanation of CO2 is discussed.

Carbon dioxide and greenhouse gas emissions have been a known threat globally. One of the significant contributors to this issue is coal usage in the power generation industry. Hydro-thermal carbonization (HTC) is considered one of the alternative methods for producing hydrochar to replace coal. Moreover, the application of microwave heating in HTC process is in demand due to its advantageous characteristics such as rapid heating and selective heating. This paper reviews microwave-assisted HTC (MAHTC) as an alternative solid biofuel with an emphasis on lignocellulosic biomass as the feedstock as it is abundant in nature, the influence of process parameters on the hydrochar quality and the kinetic models of hydrochar. Lastly, the challenges during scale-up design especially in terms of technical, economic and environment are discussed. This review would provide a comprehensive overview of MAHTC, which positioning a way forward for the energy and power sector.

A profound grasp of anatomy is indispensable for shaping competent and safe medical practitioners. This knowledge acquisition is pivotal in the early stages of medical education and remains crucial throughout clinical training. However, the evolving landscape of medical education has ushered in changes to the anatomy curriculum, marked by a reduction in contact hours and a streamlined content structure to accommodate novel subjects and teaching methodologies. This transformation has precipitated a quandary in defining the essential scope and depth of anatomical knowledge to be imparted. Traditionally, surgeons assumed the role of anatomy instructors until Flexner's recommendations catalyzed the integration of trained anatomists. Nevertheless, the varied backgrounds of anatomists and the heterogeneity in anatomy curricula across institutions have introduced potential disparities in the quality of graduates. Addressing these challenges mandates the identification of key anatomy competencies tailored for undergraduate medical students. The imperative lies in ensuring that these competencies span cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains, offering not only comprehensiveness but also direct applicability to clinical practice. Hence, this viewpoint highlights the necessity of adopting a systematic approach that includes gathering input from various stakeholders in developing and implementing a universal anatomy core competency framework, ensuring graduates are equipped for the multifaceted demands of clinical practice. Global warming and the depletion of fossil fuels have spurred many efforts in the quest for finding renewable, alternative sources of fuels, such as biodiesel. Due to its auxiliary functions in areas such as carbon dioxide sequestration and wastewater treatment, the potential of microalgae as a feedstock for biodiesel production has attracted a lot of attention from researchers all over the world. Major improvements have been made from the upstream to the downstream aspects related to microalgae processing. One of the main concerns is the high cost associated with the production of biodiesel from microalgae, which includes drying of the biomass and the subsequent lipid extraction. These two processes can be circumvented by applying direct or in situ transesterification of the wet microalgae biomass, hence substantially reducing the cost. In situ transesterification is considered as a significant improvement to commercially produce biodiesel from microalgae. This review covers the methods used to extract lipids from microalgae and various in situ transesterification methods, focusing on recent developments related to the process. Nevertheless, more studies need to be conducted to further enhance the discussed in situ transesterification methods before implementing them on a commercial scale.

The revival of Islamic religion has formed a new atmosphere for the condition or fate of the children of Arabs. Islam forbids the killing of children through the prohibition of Allah, among others, contained in QS. Al-Isra/17: 31. Besides prohibits killing children, featuring the provisions of Islamic law that shows how important attention to and even how to look after children with a loving since before and after birth. The Qur’anic view of children globally formulated in the principle:"The children do not cause problems and suffering of parents and also vice versa" In the Qur’an, Allah says "Do not be a mother suffering difficulties because of his son and father do not have to suffer because of his son, and likewise heir duty.” Qur'an has serious concern about the child. This is evident from the various terms used in the Qur’an to show the meaning of the child as źurriyah, ibn, walad, sabiy, usbah, gulam, thifl, nasl, rabaib, and ad'iya '. As a review of the limitation, this study will analyze the concept of child in the perspective of the Qur'an (interpretation of thematic studies).

High energy demand from the market due to the rapid increment of the human population worldwide has urged society to explore alternatives to replace non-renewable energy. Renewable diesel produced from biomass could be the next potential energy source for its high stability, long-term storage, and comparable performance with diesel fuels. In producing renewable diesel, the application of catalyst is essential, and the catalyst support is synthesized with the catalyst to enhance the reaction rate and catalytic properties. In this review, the type of catalyst support will be reviewed along with a brief introduction to biodiesel and renewable diesel production, especially focusing on zeolites as the catalyst support. The enhancement of catalyst support will be critically discussed to improve the catalytic performance of support in renewable diesel production and important aspects such as the stability and recyclability of the supported catalyst are included. The application of the supported catalyst in increasing the selectivity and yield of renewable diesel is significant, in which the catalytic properties depend on the interaction between catalyst and catalyst support. The supported catalyst as a favorable substance to assist in enhancing renewable diesel yield could lead to a sustainable and greener future for the biofuel industry in Malaysia.

Fast development of centralized agricultural biogas plants leads to high amounts of digestate production. The treatment and disposal of liquid fractions after on-site digestate solid–liquid separation remains problematic due to their high organic, nutrient and aromatic contents. This work aims to study the variability of the remaining compounds in the digestate liquid fractions in relation to substrate origin, process parameters and solid–liquid separation techniques. Twenty-nine digestates from full-scale codigestion biogas plants and one waste activated sludge (WAS) digestate were collected and characterized. This study highlighted the combined effect of the solid–liquid separation process and the anaerobic digestion feedstock on the characteristics of liquid fractions of digestates. Two major clusters were found: (1) liquid fractions from high efficiency separation process equipment (e.g., centrifuge and others with addition of coagulant, flocculent or polymer) and (2) liquid fractions from low efficiency separation processes (e.g., screw press, vibrating screen and rotary drum), in this latter case, the concentration of chemical oxygen demand (COD) was associated with the proportion of cow manure and energy crops at biogas plant input. Finally, SUVA254, an indicator for aromatic molecule content and the stabilization of organic matter, was associated with the hydraulic retention time (HRT).

In this study, coconut oils have been transesterified with ethanol using microwave technology. The product obtained (biodiesel and FAEE) was then fractional distillated under vacuum to collect bio-kerosene or bio-jet fuel, which is a renewable fuel to operate a gas turbine engine. This process was modeled using RSM and ANN for optimization purposes. The developed models were proved to be reliable and accurate through different statistical tests and the results showed that ANN modeling was better than RSM. Based on the study, the optimum bio-jet fuel production yield of 74.45 wt% could be achieved with an ethanol–oil molar ratio of 9.25:1 under microwave irradiation with a power of 163.69 W for 12.66 min. This predicted value was obtained from the ANN model that has been optimized with ACO. Besides that, the sensitivity analysis indicated that microwave power offers a dominant impact on the results, followed by the reaction time and lastly ethanol–oil molar ratio. The properties of the bio-jet fuel obtained in this work was also measured and compared with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) D1655 standard.

Pyrolyzed waste plastic-based green fuel has been reported to be used as an alternate fuel for diesel engines. Some of the main challenges for implementing this in current automotive technology include evaluating engine performance, emission, noise vibration harshness (NVH), and knock characteristics of this fuel. This study focuses on the engine performance of poly-ethylene terephthalate (PET)-based waste plastic oil (WPO) at varying engine speed conditions. The pyrolysis of mixed-waste plastic was carried out at 300 °C in a fixed-bed reactor. Physicochemical properties such as viscosity, density, calorific value, sulfur, and research octane number (RON) of the plastic fuel and its blends with gasoline were analyzed using ASTM standard test methods. The WPO was blended with two different types of gasoline (RON88 and RON90) at 10, 20, and 30%, and was tested in a spark-ignition (SI) engine. The experimental results showed that different WPO–gasoline blends can be used in an SI engine without any engine modifications, and the performance indicators for different blends were found to be close to that of pure gasoline. The brake power and brake specific fuel consumption (BSFC) were found to be 4.1 kW and 0.309 kg/kW h, respectively. The 10% WPO and 90% RON90 blend produced optimal engine performance at 3500 rpm.

The inheritance law prevailing in indonesia is pluralistic since it consists of customary inheritance law (Adat), civil inheritance law (KUH Perdata), and Islamic inheritance law. This is inseparable from the politic of law performed by Dutch-Indische Government about population classsification in article 131 and 163 Indische Staatsregeling (S.1855-2). The influence of this policy is visible even now because there are some differences in their principles and norms. The difference in principle such as application of “legitieme portie” principle that is exist in civil inheritance law is unheard in Adat law, while the Islamic law has ijbrari principle. Another differences lay in the inheritance elements. In Adat, element of kinship between someone and his/her heir is very important. Civil inheritance law, in other hand, has two ways to determine how the heritage can be passed down, first is arranged in constitution, and second is mentioned in testament letter. Islamic law also has two ways to determine the inheritance right that consist of kinship elements (nasabiyah) and inheritance relations that built by marriage, etc (sababiyah). The consequence of this differences affecting widow’s position as a heir because of its acknowledgement in civil and Islamic law, while Adat doesn’t recognize it. This paper is trying to find a way to integrate this matter with law harmonisation theory and other relevant theories.

We examined market reactions to the financial distress announcements of listed firms in Malaysia. We investigated whether the market differentiates between the politically connected and non-politically connected vis-a-vis the outcomes at the time of the announcements. There is evidence of differing reactions to announcements by politically connected and non-connected firms. Investors react more negatively to the non-politically connected firms as compared to the politically connected ones. In addition, in the event of emergence from financial distress, the losses of politically connected firms were lower than for the non-politically connected firms.

Optimizing the process parameters of biodiesel production is the key to maximizing biodiesel yields. In this study, artificial neural network models integrated with ant colony optimization were developed to optimize the parameters of the two-step Cerbera manghas biodiesel production process: (1) esterification and (2) transesterification. The parameters of esterification and transesterification processes were optimized to minimize the acid value and maximize the C. manghas biodiesel yield, respectively. There was excellent agreement between the average experimental values and those predicted by the artificial neural network models, indicating their reliability. These models will be useful to predict the optimum process parameters, reducing the trial and error of conventional experimentation. The kinetic study was conducted to understand the mechanism of the transesterification process and, lastly, the model could measure the physicochemical properties of the C. manghas biodiesel.

Banana stem is being considered as the second largest waste biomass in Malaysia. Therefore, the environmental challenge of managing this huge amount of biomass as well as converting the feedstock into value-added products has spurred the demand for diversified applications to be implemented as a realistic approach. In this study, banana stem waste was experimented for bioethanol generation via hydrolysis and fermentation methods with the presence of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (yeast) subsequently. Along with the experimental analysis, a realistic pilot scale application of electricity generation from the bioethanol has been designed by HOMER software to demonstrate techno-economic and environmental impact. During sulfuric acid and enzymatic hydrolysis, the highest glucose yield was 5.614 and 40.61 g/L, respectively. During fermentation, the maximum and minimum glucose yield was 62.23 g/L at 12 h and 0.69 g/L at 72 h, respectively. Subsequently, 99.8% pure bioethanol was recovered by a distillation process. Plant modeling simulated operating costs 65,980 US$/y, net production cost 869347 US$ and electricity cost 0.392 US$/kWh. The CO2 emission from bioethanol was 97,161 kg/y and SO2 emission was 513 kg/y which is much lower than diesel emission. The overall bioethanol production from banana stem and application of electricity generation presented the approach economically favorable and environmentally benign.

A significant number of studies reported linkages between ethical moral reasoning and transformational leadership (TFL) style, but questioned its moral foundation based on shared values and ethics. Thus, the issue of public leaders’ and subordinates’ degree of moral judgment and TFL behavior as perceived by followers is explored. The Defining Issues Test (DIT-2) and the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ X5) were completed by leaders and subordinates severely (Avolio & Bass, 2004; Rest, Narvaez, Bebeau, & Thoma, 1999). Path analysis of the structural model indicates positive significant statistical relationship between cognitive moral development (CMD) and TFL style (β = 0.120, t = 1.286, p < .10). Nevertheless, we indicate that the capacity to experience, discover, and anticipate ethical threats encourages the use of post-conventional stage in decision making, and this result adds to our understanding of the relationship between ethical reasoning and leadership style.

Learning disabilities (LD) are problem that influence the brain capacity to receive, process, analyse and store information. These processing issues can interfere with learning fundamental abilities, for example, reading (Dyslexia), writing (Dysgraphia) and math (Dyscalculia). Fortunately, in today's world technology, we have numerous option techniques for educating and supporting fundamental skills in reading, writing and math such as mobile learning by using mobile app. However, the research in mobile app design model for Dyscalculia children is still scarce: very few studies have focus on how to design and develop appropriate mobile app for Dyscalculia children from the perspective of mobile app designers and developers. The purpose of this paper is to identify the appropriate components that should be included in the mobile app model. Interview sessions were conducted with Dyscalculia practitioners that involved a teacher, paediatric and an educational psychology. This has resulted in identifying 16 components that can be included in the mobile app design model.

Ibnu Arabi, the Grand Master of Islam, is a great thinker whose controversial thought, wahdat al-wujud, has significantly influenced the mystiques of Islam. The meaning of wahdat al-wujud is basically two folds, i.e. that Being is the only One which exists and that the universe is merely a manifestation of the One. The One Being here refers to Allah SWT. The One covers up all the existing phenomena and functions as a resource which emanates the entire universe. In this context, He is referred to as al-Haqiqat al-Muhammadiyah. He might also be viewed as both the Universal Soul for His being the source of cosmos that governs the universe and the Universal Body for His reflecting any actions on every single micro existence that forms the universe. Furthermore, when His existence is deemed as a jauhar (jewel) that face-up any occurrences, He is typically known as al-haba’. The concept of wahdat al-wujud can actually be simplified into the principle of laa maujuda illa wujud al-wahid (no existence except the Existing One, the Being). The One might reveal His own existence into different martabat or levels: Martabat Ahadiyah, Martabat Wahidiyah, and Martabat Tajalli Syuhudi. Those standing points trigger Ibnu Arabi to believe that any kinds of realities or existences are nothing but a true reflection of the One.

In the near future, the traditional networks architecture will be difficult to be managed. Hence, Software Defined Network (SDN) will be an alternative in the future of programmable networks to replace the conventional network architecture. The main idea of SDN architecture is to separate the forwarding plane and control plane of network system, where network operators can program packet forwarding behaviour to improve the network performance. Congestion control is important mechanism for network traffic to improve network capability and achieve high end Quality of Service (QoS). In this paper, extensive simulation is conducted to analyse the performance of SDN by implementing Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) under congested network. The simulation was conducted on Mininet by creating four different fanout and the result was analysed based on differences of matrix performance. As a result, the packet loss and throughput reduction were observed when number of fanout in the topology was increased. By using LLDP protocol, huge reduction in packet loss rate has been achieved while maximizing percentage packet delivery ratio.
