Mixed matrix membranes (MMMs), which is polymeric matrix incorporated with inorganic filler materials, appear to be potential candidate for CO2 separation. Current work focuses on fabrication of MMMs incorporated with varying loading of small pore zeolite UZM-5 and modified UZM-5 for CO2/CH4 separation. Zeolite UZM-5 was firstly synthesized and then modified by using 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES). MMMs was fabricated by incorporating zeolite UZM-5 and modified UZM-5 (NH2-UZM-5) into polysulfone (PSF) matrix. Both modified and unmodified zeolite UZM-5 were characterized via Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM) and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) analysis. The fabricated membranes were characterized using FTIR, XRD, TGA and FESEM analysis. The successful synthesis of zeolite UZM-5 was proven by XRD analysis. FESEM analysis of the membranes revealed that the successful the MMMs were successfully fabricated with even distribution of zeolites in the polymer matrix. In CO2 and CH4 gas permeation and separation study for the membranes, the highest CO2/CH4 ideal selectivity of 33.1 was obtained by the MMMs with 1 % NH2-UZM-5, which was a significant enhancement of 212 % in CO2/CH4 ideal selectivity as compared to the pristine PSF membrane.

Because of the time and expense involved in performing consolidation tests, it is often desirable to obtain approximate values of (C, and C,) by using other soil properties which are more easily determined. The literature contains numerous equations linking soil compressibility to its physical and index properlies. As these equations are often used to obtain preliminary evaluations of (C) and (C,), it is important to know the reliability of these equations. In this paper an attempt was made to estimate (C, and C.) of Baghdad cohesive soil from other soil properties. A number of commonly used empirical correlation equations that have been developed during the last six decades to estimate (C, and C,) were compiled and evaluated. The results of routine laboratory tests of a large number of databases of Baghdad soil were correlated with more sophisticated laboratory consolidation results by conducting simple and multiple regression analyses. It was concluded that the compression index of Baghdad cohesive soil cannot be estimated from Atterberg limits and the better values of compression and recompression indices of Baghdad soil can be obtained when more than one index property is used in the regression analysis.

Humic acid (HA) is a major component in dissolved natural organic matter (NOM) that is commonly found in natural water sources such as surface water and soil. Although HA is non-toxic, it is a precursor of carcinogenic and mutagenic disinfection by-products that will be generated when chlorine and chloramine are applied to disinfect water during the chlorination process. Hence, researchers have been investigating various strategies to remove HA from water sources and nanoparticles stood out as one of the preferred materials for the removal. However, owing to the tiny size of nanoparticles, the recycling, and removal of nanoparticles through sedimentation and centrifugation method is often time and energy-consuming. Therefore, this work set out to immobilize iron oxide nanoparticles (nanoFe3O4) onto fabric material to create a flexible catalyst that is feasible in degrading HA. The immobilization of nanoFe3O4 onto woven and non-woven fabrics was successfully done through in situ co-precipitation method. The flexible catalyst was found to be responsive to magnetic pull, which is one of the properties of nanoFe3O4 itself. On the other hand, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images have verified the attachment of nanoFe3O4 was in an irregular pattern across the heterogeneous surface and it was grown on the fabric’s filament instead of being trapped between the pores of the fabric. Subsequently, the as-made flexible catalysts were tested and found to be feasible as it can degrade HA completely in 24 to 36 h. More importantly, the flexible catalyst can be removed easily in an instant with a negligible detachment of nanoparticles from the fabric material. While this preliminary result is promising, it is suggested that further study should be carried out to optimize the efficiency of this novel flexible catalyst on the degradation of HA.

The use of phase change materials (PCMs) has become an increasingly common way to reduce a building’s energy usage when added to the building envelope. This developing technology has demonstrated improvements in thermal comfort and energy efficiency, making it a viable building energy solution. The current study intends to provide a comprehensive review of the published studies on the utilization of PCMs in various constructions of energy-efficient roofs, walls, and ceilings. The research question holds massive potential to unlock pioneering solutions for maximizing the usefulness of PCMs in reducing cooling demands, especially in challenging high-temperature environments. Several issues with PCMs have been revealed, the most significant of which is their reduced effectiveness during the day due to high summer temperatures, preventing them from crystallizing at night. However, this review investigates how PCMs can delay the peak temperature time, reducing the number of hours during which the indoor temperature exceeds the thermal comfort range. Additionally, the utilization of PCMs can improve the building’s energy efficiency by mitigating the need for cooling systems during peak hours. Thus, selecting the right PCM for high temperatures is both critical and challenging. Insulation density, specific heat, and thermal conductivity all play a role in heat transfer under extreme conditions. This study introduces several quantification techniques and paves the way for future advancements to accommodate practical and technical solutions related to PCM usage in building materials.

Sand raining is among the popular techniques used in the laboratory for preparing sand samples. Factors like the deposition intensity (DI) and the falling height (HF) affect the produced relative density (RD) in this technique. Studies showed that the RD increase as the HF increases. This is, however, applicable up to a critical HF beyond which the RD seems unaffected. According to previous experiments, the maximum RD achieved using the sand raining is about (70 ± 5)%. The preparation of samples with higher RD is a prerequisite required in many experimental models. In the present article, a new raining system, which is capable to prepare sand samples with a very high RD and with a fast sand flow, is introduced. The new system was used to examine the relationship between the HF and the RD under different trapped air pressures and using rain nozzles with three different opening diameters. The new system was found appropriate for reconstituting SP-SM with very dense specimens (RD > 99%) with achieving higher DI values and a reduction in preparation time of more than 90% in comparison to the classic raining technique. It is time-saving and very suitable to reconstitute large model soil specimens effectively and quickly.

The application of low-carbon and natural materials to mitigate the undesired properties of difficult soils is considered as a sustainable solution to the issues regarding these soils. Selecting some natural materials, of low carbon type, from the rubble of demolished buildings or debris from the construction of new buildings and recycling them in a poor or weak soil stabilisation process is a very little explored field of research in Iraq. This paper investigated the geotechnical characteristics of extremely high plasticity soil (EHPS) improved with a low-carbon building stone debris (BSD). Five dosages from coarse and fine soil-size ((BSDC) and (BSDF)) of BSD have been prepared to use in the EHPS-BSD mixtures. The laboratory tests included Atterberg limits, linear shrinkage, unconfined compression, consolidation, and swelling. The effect of the BSD on the time to zero-water content and the maximum swell was included. The efficiency of the BSD was proved by the amelioration of the compressibility and strength, and by reducing the shrinkage, swell pressure, and the potential of swelling. The shrinkage, compressibility, and swelling properties of the EHPS were reduced depending on the gradation and content of BSD. The gradation of BSD had a major role in strength development and controlling the time required to reach the final shrinkage and maximum swell stage.

New transition metal complexes of cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II), palladium(II), cadmium(II), and platinum(IV) with bidentate ligand 4-amino-5-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol were synthesized and characterized by microelemental analyses (CHNS), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), UV-Visible spectra, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility and thermal analyses (TG-DSC). The ligand was synthesized by ring closure of potassium-2-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoyl) hydrazine carbodithioate with an excess amount of hydrazine, and then was acidified using hydrochloric acid. The ligand was used as Lewis bases to prepare metal complexes through the reaction of ratio (1:2) metal:ligand. The ligand was characterized by 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR and the previously described methods to identify the complexes. The results obtained from spectra and elemental analyses indicated the tetrahedral geometry around Cd(II) ion, square-planar for Cu(II) and Pd(II), and octahedral geometry around Co(II), Ni(II), and Pt(IV). All the metal complexes showed significant antibacterial activity in comparison with the free ligand. The antibacterial test of the platinum(IV) complex showed higher activity than other metal complexes against bacteria Staphylococcus aureus (G-positive) and Escherichia coli (G-negative).

This study tries to shed light on the importance of using communication technology in class-home connection, where the two-way communication that requires electronic interactive dialogue between teachers and parents are used, and how this communication may enhance students’ English language academic performance and help in reducing their classroom anxiety. The sample of the study consists of thirty EFL secondary school students with their parents. Two instruments were used to collect data; structured interview with parents, observation checklists to measure students’ anxiety, in addition to use students’ academic performance to determine their level of achievement in English. The results show that parents have positive attitudes towards using communication technology in class-home connection. It further demonstrates that students’ level of anxiety was reduced notably after applying the experiment, when the parents connect with the teacher daily, in addition to palpable improvement in students’ academic performance in English language.

Assessment of bone healing is essential for efficient orthopedic treatment. This work investigates the feasibility of assessing frequency response experimentally for bone healing detection, with a particular emphasis on the use of vibrational assessments. Detailed experimental studies were carried out to determine the ability of frequency response analysis to assess bone healing. Mechanical excitation was delivered to cracked bone samples at various frequencies, and the vibrational responses of the displacement and accelerations were measured. The experimental setting includes testing five samples, to cover a wide range of possibilities. The obtained vibrational, such phase, magnitude, and coherence, were examined to find common patterns and changes linked with the healing process. The results showed that frequency response analysis has the potential to identify bone healing, as unique vibrational responses were seen in healed samples under cyclic load for different turns (0, 1000, 2000, 3000, and 4000). The findings demonstrate the sensitivity of vibrational evaluations in capturing the mechanical properties and healing condition of bone tissue. Furthermore, the presence of cracks impacts both structural integrity and natural frequency. Natural frequency decreases as the number of cycles increases. The highest frequency reduction occurred at the first mode shape and maximum cycle number, indicating considerable fracture behaviour changes. Natural frequency can be used to assess bone health; higher stiffness and frequency are associated with smaller crack size. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Most of the soils suffered from significant geotechnical problems dependent on factors like the type of soil, soil composition and mineralogy. Specifically, the problems related to mechanical and physical properties of soils. Several studies have been used to mitigate the adverse effects of soils through using either additive conventional materials such as cement, lime or these soils blending with produced material and chemical materials. This paper focuses on stabilizing or improving different soils using sustainable materials. These materials provided environmental and economic benefits while mitigating a health hazard, storage problems, and a potential pollution source. They can be classified according to these sources into four groups: industrial waste (by-products), agriculture waste, domestic waste and mineral waste. According to the results of this review, compaction characteristics, California bearing ratio and unconfined compressive strength have been studied and discussed in this paper.

CO2/H2 separation using membrane technology is an important research area in order to obtain high purity hydrogen as one source of clean energy. Finding a suitable inorganic membrane is one of the critical issues, which needs to be explored for CO2/H2 separation. In the present study, Ba-SAPO-34 zeolite membrane was synthesized and followed by a modification process. CO2/H2 separation of the membrane was investigated by varying the independent process variables (CO2 % in the feed, pressure difference across the membrane and temperature). Modeling and optimization for the responses (CO2/H2 separation selectivity and CO2 permeance) was performed by applying response surface methodology and central composite design, which is available in Design Expert software. The accuracy of the models in predicting the response was tested by comparing with the experimental value of response and the two values were in good agreement. The optimization of the models gave CO2 permeance of 19.23 × 10−7 mol/m2 s Pa and CO2/H2 separation selectivity of 11.6 at 5% CO2 in the feed, a pressure difference of 100 kPa, and temperature of 30 °C for Ba-SAPO-34 zeolite membrane.

A field study has been conducted during autumn season of 2016 at Karbala province of Hindia by mung bean plant Vigna radiate L. is a local category to study the interrelated effect of both the Mycorrhiza fungi (Glomus mosseae (and the Rhizobia bacteria (R.leguminosarum)Under levels of water stress. Three treatments of irrigation are used ; (S1 irrigation every 5 days and S2 irrigation every 10 days and S3 irrigation every 15 days) and four levels of Bio fertilizer are used (without inoculation) (C0) and (Rhizobium inoculation) (R) and (mycorrhiza inoculation)(M) and (the interaction between mycorrhiza and Rhizobium) (M+R). A split plot in randomized complete block design is used with three replications to do this experiment. Treatments of irrigation are used as main plots while Bio fertilizer levels are used as sub-plot. Least significant difference (LSD) at 5% probability is used to compare between the means. The results showed irrigation every 5 days (S1) was superior in having the highest average of (The dry weight of the root, number of pod per plant, number of seeds per pod ,100 seeds weight ,seed yield , Biological yield) Amount (0.78 gm. Plant-1, 31.33 pods. Plant-1 , 8.45 seed .pod-1 , 3.82 gm ,3.77 tan .ha-1 , 7.37tan .ha-1) respectively. without significant difference between them treatment of irrigation 10 days (S2) in 100-seed weight 3.50 gm. Moreover treatment Bio fertilizer (R+M) significantly gives the highest means for yield and yield components (0.89 gm. Plant-1, 33.64 pods. Plant-1 , 8.42 seed .pod-1 , 4.10 gm , 4.00 tan .ha-1, 7.70 tan .ha-1) respectively. The interaction among (R+M)S1,(R+M)S2 and(M)S1 significantly give the highest means for all plant characteristics. .

The present study highlights the importance of using running dictation technique in teaching the textbook's songs at the primary schools. Running dictation technique is a classroom activity where the pupils are moving around and working together as groups to handle dictation and raise enjoyment at the same time. This study is an experimental one in which forty eight pupils is taught the textbook's songs by using running dictation technique. The present study aims at finding out the effect of applying this technique on primary pupils' spelling, pronunciation and vocabulary retention. To achieve this aim, the researcher has used three achievement tests as measurement tools. They are spelling test, pronunciation test and vocabulary worksheet in addition to the daily observation-test formula for two independent samples has been used to apply the data analysis technique.The sample of the study is forty pupils from AL-Aduaa primary school in Diyala Governoate . The results of this study reveal that there is a positive effect of using running dictation technique on the three aforementioned variables. They also reveal that the pupils at the primary level can gain much motivation towards learning songs by using running dictation technique.
