Abstract

: Introduction: We aimed to assess the effectiveness and tolerability of dolutegravir (DTG), abacavir (ABC) and lamivudine (3TC) administered as branded STR (DTG/ABC/3TC) or as two separate pills (DTG and either branded ABC/3TC [DTG+(ABC/3TC)b] or generic ABC/3TC [DTG+(ABC/3TC)g]). Methods: We included individuals from the multicentre cohort of the Spanish HIV/AIDS Research Network (CoRIS) who received DTG/ABC/3TC, DTG+(ABC/3TC)b or DTG+(ABC/3TC)g during 2015 to 2018. We used multivariable logistic regression to compare the proportion of antiretroviral‐naïve individuals who achieved viral suppression (VS) (viral load ≤50 copies/mL) at 24 weeks of initiating with DTG+(ABC/3TC)b or DTG+(ABC/3TC)g versus DTG/ABC/3TC. We also calculated the proportion of virologically suppressed individuals who maintained VS at 24 weeks after switching from DTG/ABC/3TC to DTG+(ABC/3TC)g. Results: During the study period, 829, 68 and 47 treatment‐naïve individuals started treatment with DTG/ABC/3TC, DTG+(ABC/3TC)b or DTG+(ABC/3TC)g respectively. The proportions of individuals who changed their regimens due to side effects during the first 24 weeks were 3.7%, 4.4% and 6.4% respectively (p = 0.646). We did not find significant differences in VS at 24 weeks among individuals starting with DTG+(ABC/3TC)b or DTG+(ABC/3TC)g compared to those initiating with DTG/ABC/3TC. Among 177 virologically suppressed individuals who switched from DTG/ABC/3TC to DTG+(ABC/3TC)g, 170 (96.0%) maintained VS at 24 weeks. Conclusions: In naïve individuals, the effectiveness and tolerability at 24 weeks of DTG plus ABC/3TC administered as two separate pills, either as branded or generic ABC/3TC, was similar to the STR DTG/ABC/3TC. Abstract

La presente investigación cuantitativa, de diseño cuasi experimental, está orientada a comparar la Resolución de problemas de forma, movimiento y localización, entre el pretest y postest, luego de aplicar el programa Papiroflexia en los estudiantes de 6° de primaria de un colegio de Santiago de Surco. Se trabajó con una muestra de 23 estudiantes. Para determinar el efecto de la aplicación del programa Papiroflexia, se empleó una prueba no paramétrica Wilcoxon, cuyo resultado demostró que existen diferencias significativas entre las medidas del pretest y el postest. Asimismo, se empleó esta prueba para determinar la existencia de significatividad de la aplicación del programa Papiroflexia en cada una de las dimensiones de la Resolución de problemas de forma, movimiento y localización: Modelación de objetos con forma geométricas y sus transformaciones, comunicación de la comprensión sobre las formas y relaciones geométricas, uso de estrategias y procedimientos para orientarse en el espacio y Argumentación de afirmaciones sobre relaciones geométricas. Los resultados mostraron que existe significatividad en el desarrollo de tres de las cuatro dimensiones. The aim of this quasi-experimental quantitative research is to compare solving problems of shapes, movements and localization, between the pretest and the posttest, after using an origami program with 23 sixth grade primary students of a school in Santiago de Surco. To relate the effect of the application of the origami program, a non-parametric Wilcoxon test was used, of which the result showed there is significance between the results of the pre-test and pos-test. Furthermore, this test was used to relate each dimension of Solving problems of shapes, movements and localization: representation of data with geometric shapes and their transformations, communication of the understanding of geometric shapes and relationships, use of strategies and procedures for orientation in space, support of claims about geometric relationships. The results showed there was significance in the development of three of the four dimensions.

Abstract

Objectives: To assess the attitudes and opinions about generic antiretroviral drugs (ARVs) and single-tablet regimen (STR) de-simplification among physicians prescribing HIV treatment in the cohort of the Spanish HIV/AIDS Research Network (CoRIS).Methods: An online questionnaire with 27 structured questions was sent to all physicians (n=199) who prescribed ARVs among the 45 centres participating in the cohort.Results: A total of 169 (84.9%) physicians answered the questionnaire. Only 4.1% of the physicians would never prescribe generic ARVs, but 53.3% would not prescribe them if the number of pills per day increased and 89.3% would not prescribe them if the number of doses per day increased. However, 84.0% of the physicians agreed to prescribe generic ARVs if doing so would decrease costs for the public healthcare system. The percentages of physicians stating that generic ARVs (compared with branded ones) would be associated with worse adherence, more adverse effects or more probability of virological failure, provided that the number of pills and doses per day would not change, were low: 0.6%, 7.7% and 3.6%, respectively. However, these percentages were much higher if the generic ARV entailed breaking an STR: 63.9%, 18.9% and 42.0%, respectively. Most physicians stated that they needed more information about the effectiveness and safety of generic ARVs and the price difference compared with their branded equivalents.Conclusions: Although most physicians were confident about prescribing generic ARVs, the majority had strong concerns about de-simplifying STR, and they also needed more information about generic drugs. 8. Análisis del ratio arteria pulmonar - aorta como factor pronóstico de mortalidad en población infectada por el VIH

Abstract

Background: Prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and pulmonary hypertension (PH) in high in HIVinfected patients. Pulmonary artery to aorta (PA:A) ratio ≥1 has been proposed as diagnostic of PH and predictive of mortality and hospitalary admissions in COPD patients. Up to date this ratio has not been validated in HIV-infected populations. Objective: To assess PA:A ratio predictive role of mortality and admissions in a HIV-infected sample. Methods: Prospective cohort study including a randomly selected sample of adult HIV- infected patients aged 40-69 and clinical stable excluding those with heart, liver o renal advanced disease. Patients underwent high resolution CT chest scan with quantitative emphysema measure and PA:A estimation and lung function tests. Statistical analysis included ROC curve and Cox multivariate survival regression to analyze PA:A ratio predictive capacity. Results: We included 187 patients, 7.65 years mean followup and mortality rate of 18.8/1000 patients-year. 22.36% of the patients had COPD. Mean PA:A ratio was 0.83±0.11, 4.3% had ≥1 ratio. No ratio differences were observed in patients according to mortality or COPD. In multivariate survival analysis only DLCO and diabetes were associated with mortality. Conclusions: PA:A ratio is not predictive of mortality or hospital admissions in a sample of HIV infected patients., Antecedentes: La prevalencia de enfermedad pulmonar crónica obstructiva (EPOC) e hipertensión pulmonar (HTP) en pacientes infectados por el VIH es elevada. En pacientes con EPOC el ratio arteria pulmonar-aorta (AP:A) ≥1 podría ser un marcador diagnóstico de HTP y pronóstico de mortalidad e ingresos, sin embargo este ratio no ha sido estudiado en población infectada por el VIH. Objetivos: Valorar el ratio AP:A como predictor de mortalidad o ingreso en una cohorte de pacientes infectados por el VIH. Materiales y métodos: Estudio de cohorte prospectiva incluyendo una muestra aleatorizada de pacientes infectados por el VIH con edad 40-69 años, estables clínicamente y sin antecedentes de cardiopatía, nefropatía o hepatopatía avanzada. Se realiza TC torácico de alta resolución con cálculo de ratio AP:A, estimación del enfisema cuantitativo, pruebas funcionales respiratorias. Se realiza análisis estadístico de la relación entre AP:A y mortalidad mediante curva COR y análisis de supervivencia multivariante de Cox. Resultados: Se incluyen 187 pacientes, con seguimiento medio de 7.65 años, mortalidad observada de 18.8 /1000 pacientesaño. El 22.36% de los pacientes presentaban EPOC. El ratio AP:A medio fue 0.83±0.11, el 4,3% de pacientes presentó ratio ≥1 y no se apreciaron diferencias en función de mortalidad ni en la muestra global ni en subgrupo de pacientes con EPOC. En el análisis de supervivencia solo la DLCO y la presencia de diabetes resultaron significativas. Conclusiones: El ratio AP:A no resulta un marcador pronóstico de mortalidad o ingreso hospitalario.

9. Phytophthora niederhauserii sp. nov., a polyphagous species associated with ornamentals, fruit trees and native plants in 13 countries

Abstract

[EN] A non-papillate, heterothallic Phytophthora species first isolated in 2001 and subsequently from symptomatic roots, crowns and stems of 33 plant species in 25 unrelated botanical families from 13 countries is formally described here as a new species. Symptoms on various hosts included crown and stem rot, chlorosis, wilting, leaf blight, cankers and gumming. This species was isolated from Australia, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, the United Kingdom and United States in association with shrubs and herbaceous ornamentals grown mainly in greenhouses. The most prevalent hosts are English ivy (Hedera helix) and Cistus (Cistus salvifolius). The association of the species with acorn banksia (Banksia prionotes) plants in natural ecosystems in Australia, in affected vineyards (Vitis vinifera) in South Africa and almond (Prunus dulcis) trees in Spain and Turkey in addition to infection of shrubs and herbaceous ornamentals in a broad range of unrelated families are a sign of a wide ecological adaptation of the species and its potential threat to agricultural and natural ecosystems. The morphology of the persistent non-papillate ellipsoid sporangia, unique toruloid lobate hyphal swellings and amphigynous antheridia does not match any of the described species. Phylogenetic analysis based on sequences of the ITS rDNA, EF-1a, and b-tub supported that this organism is a hitherto unknown species. It is closely related to species in ITS clade 7b with the most closely related species being P. sojae. The name Phytophthora niederhauserii has been used in previous studies without the formal description of the holotype. This name is validated in this manuscript with the formal description of Phytophthora niederhauserii Z.G. Abad et J.A. Abad, sp. nov. The name is coined to honor Dr John S. Niederhauser, a notable plant pathologist and the 1990 World Food Prize laureate., We thank Dr Michael Coffey at the World Oomycete Genetic Resource (WOC) and World Phytophthora Genetic Resource (WPC) Collections for providing valuable information for this manuscript. 10. Prevalencia, factores de riesgo y características patogénicas diferenciales de EPOC y enfisema en pacientes con infección VIH

Abstract

Antecedentes: Las anomalías pulmonares están a menudo presentes en pacientes infectados con el virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana (VIH). Objetivos: Determinar la prevalencia, las características patogénicas y los factores de riesgo de anormalidades pulmonares en pacientes VIH +. Métodos: Se incluyeron en el estudio 275 pacientes VIH +, con una media (± desviación estandar) de edad de 48,5 (± 6,6) años y en su mayoría (95,6%) tratados con terapia antirretroviral de gran actividad (TARGA), Se determinó: (1) pruebas funcionales respiratorias completas, (2) enfisema pulmonar medido por TAC, y, (3) estado inmune e inflamatorio, en muestras de esputo y de sangre periférica. Resultados: La limitación del flujo aéreo (LFA) estaba presente en el 17,2%, la baja capacidad de difusión pulmonar en el 52,2%, y el enfisema en el 10,5% y el 37,7% de los pacientes, dependiendo del método utilizado para la cuantificación. La mayoría de estas anomalías no habían sido diagnosticadas o tratadas previamente Para la LFA, los principales factores de riesgo fueron la exposición al tabaco y la historia previa de tuberculosis, mientras que para el enfisema pulmonar y la baja capacidad de difusión, además de la exposición al tabaco, se observaron factores relacionados con la infección porel VIH. Conclusiones: A pesar de la TARGA, son frecuentes las anormalidades estructurales y funcionales pulmonares en los pacientes VIH +, probablemente debido a factores relacionados con el medio ambiente y el VIH. La mayoría de ellos pasan desapercibidos y no son tratados. Dada la relativa edad joven de estos pacientes, estos resultados anticipan un problema de salud importante en los próximos años cuando, debido a la eficacia del TARGA, envejezcan.

Abstract

[EN] A non-papillate, heterothallic Phytophthora species first isolated in 2001 and subsequently from symptomatic roots, crowns and stems of 33 plant species in 25 unrelated botanical families from 13 countries is formally described here as a new species. Symptoms on various hosts included crown and stem rot, chlorosis, wilting, leaf blight, cankers and gumming. This species was isolated from Australia, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, the United Kingdom and United States in association with shrubs and herbaceous ornamentals grown mainly in greenhouses. The most prevalent hosts are English ivy (Hedera helix) and Cistus (Cistus salvifolius). The association of the species with acorn banksia (Banksia prionotes) plants in natural ecosystems in Australia, in affected vineyards (Vitis vinifera) in South Africa and almond (Prunus dulcis) trees in Spain and Turkey in addition to infection of shrubs and herbaceous ornamentals in a broad range of unrelated families are a sign of a wide ecological adaptation of the species and its potential threat to agricultural and natural ecosystems. This name is validated in this manuscript with the formal description of Phytophthora niederhauserii Z.G. Abad et J.A. Abad, sp. nov. The name is coined to honor Dr John S. Niederhauser, a notable plant pathologist and the 1990 World Food Prize laureate.

Abstract

La tesis “Claves para una lectura del Voyage du jeune Anacarsis en Grèce” verifica el gran éxito de lectura que durante todo el siglo XIX y principios del XX tuvo la obra publicada en 1788 por Jean-Jacques Barthélemy, enmarcándola en el movimiento de vuelta a la antigüedad clásica que se desarrolla en pleno siglo de las Luces y que perturba todas las expresiones culturales francesas de la segunda mitad del siglo XVII. Es todo el siglo el que vuelve la vista al imaginario clásico en busca de referencias en las que justificarse, provocando, a su paso, la contextualización de la situación de la Grecia moderna dominada por entonces por los turcos y permitiendo el surgimiento del filohelenismo francés. El Voyage colabora en está búsqueda acercando al gran público el mundo griego, proporcionando un material visual y literario sin precedentes y divulgando un conocimiento hasta entonces exclusivamente erudito.

Abstract

GenBank, the public repository for nucleotide and protein sequences, is a critical resource for molecular biology, evolutionary biology, and ecology. While some attention has been drawn to sequence errors (1), common annotation errors also reduce the value of this database. In fact, for organisms such as fungi, which are notoriously difficult to identify, up to 20% of DNA sequence records may have erroneous lineage designations in GenBank (2). Gene function annotation in protein sequence databases is similarly error-prone (3, 4). Because identity and function of new sequences are often determined by bioinformatic analyses, both types of errors are propagated into new accessions, leading to long-term degradation of the quality of the database. Currently, primary sequence data are annotated by the authors of those data, and can only be reannotated by the same authors. This is inefficient and unsustainable over the long term as authors eventually leave the field. Although it is possible to link third-party databases to GenBank records, this is a short-term solution that has little guarantee of permanence. Similarly, the current third-party annotation option in GenBank (TPA) complicates rather than solves the problem by creating an identical record with a new annotation, while leaving the original record unflagged and unlinked to the new record. Since the origin of public zoological and botanical specimen collections, an open system of cumulative annotation has evolved, whereby the original name is retained, but additional opinion is directly appended and used for filing and retrieval. This was needed as new specimens and analyses allowed for reevaluation of older specimens and the original depositors became unavailable. The time has come for the public sequence database to incorporate a community-curated, cumulative annotation process that allows third parties to improve the annotations of sequences when warranted by published peer-reviewed analyses (5)., (undefined)

Abstract

The online community resource Phytophthora database (PD) was developed to support accurate and rapid identification of Phytophthora and to help characterize and catalog the diversity and evolutionary relationships within the genus. Since its release in 2008. the sequence database has grown to cover 1 to 12 loci for ≈ 2,600 isolates (representing 138 described and provisional species). Sequences of multiple mitochondrial loci were added to complement nuclear loci-based phylogenetic analyses and diagnostic tool development. Key characteristics of most newly described and provisional species have been summarized. Other additions to improve the PD functionality include: (i) geographic information system tools that enable users to visualize the geographic origins of chosen isolates on a global-scale map, (ii) a tool for comparing genetic similarity between isolates via microsatellite markers to support population genetic studies, (iii) a comprehensive review of molecular diagnostics tools and relevant references, (iv) sequence alignments used to develop polymerase chain reaction-based diagnostics tools to support their utilization and new diagnostic tool development, and (v) an online community forum for sharing and preserving experience and knowledge accumulated in the global Phytophthora community.
