This supplemental material presents the detailed results of a journal paper titled "Size optimization of planar truss systems using modified salp-swarm algorithm" accepted to be published in Engineering Optimization. The abstract of the paper is provided below: This work evaluates the Salp Swarm Algorithms' (SSA) performance for truss system optimization problems and presents a novel method called the Modified Salp Swarm Algorithm (MSSA). The classical SSA and MSSA are compared to the best results in the literature for five truss structures, employing discrete and continuous variables for size optimization (two for each), and one through size and shape optimization. Although the SSA performs poorly and has convergence issues in initial random solutions, it reaches comparable solutions to previously published results, particularly in continuous problems. Contrarily, the MSSA achieves the best solutions for two discrete problems and is relatively close to the best results in the reference literature on continuous problems. Moreover, the MSSA convergence curves exhibit a modest increase in convergence rates, especially for discrete problems. It is envisaged that the findings will contribute to improving solution performance, convergence speed, and security for future real-world applications. Son yıllarda Dünya genelinde artış gösteren araç sayısına bağlı olarak gelişmemiş ve gelişmekte olan ülkelerdeki sinyalize kavşaklarda gözlemlenen yoğun karmaşa ve tıkanıklık problemleri, kavşakların yeniden düzenlenmesi konusuna olan ilgiyi arttırmaktadır. İlgide artış olmasına rağmen yetkililerin tasarım ve standartlar konusunda bilgi ve deneyim eksikliğinin bulunması, onları yalnızca kapasiteyi arttırıcı çözümler üretmeye teşvik etmektedir. Kavşak kollarındaki şerit sayısı ve genişliğinin düzensiz olduğu şehiriçi kavşakların bulunduğu bu tür ülkelerde, kavşak geometrilerinin o ülkelerin kültürel, eğitim, sosyoekonomik koşulları değerlendirilerek tasarlanması ve bu geometrik tasarıma yönelik gecikme, kuyruk uzunluğu vb. hesap yöntemlerinin geliştirilmesi oldukça önemlidir. Bu çalışma kapsamında, şehiriçi kavşaklarda geometrik problemler bulunan ve gelişmekte olan ülkeler statüsünde yer alan Türkiye’deki durum pilot şehir olarak seçilen Antalya’da yer alan 6 farklı sinyalize kavşak için incelenmiştir. Analizler kapsamında literatürde en çok kullanılan gecikme ve kuyruk uzunluğu hesap yöntemlerinden olan Highway Capacity Manual-HCM (2010) ve Avustralya (Akçelik) yöntemlerinin geometrisi hatalı kavşaklar için performans değerlendirilmesi yapılarak gelişmemiş ve gelişmekte olan ülkelerin kendi trafik kültürüne uygun sinyalize kavşaklar tasarlamalarının gerekli olup olmadığı araştırılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, kavşak bazlı ortalama mutlak yüzdesel hata (MAPE) değerlerinin altı kavşak için ortalaması alındığında gecikme için ortalama en düşük hataya (%64.5) sahip olan yöntemin HCM 2010, kuyruk uzunluğu hesabı içinse ortalama en düşük hataya (%40.9) sahip olan yöntemin ise yine HCM 2010 olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bu sonuçlara göre, seçilen kuyruk uzunluğu yöntemlerinin seçilen gecikme yöntemlerine göre kavşaklardaki mevcut durumu daha düşük hata ile ölçtüğü görülse de yine de bu hata miktarlarının oldukça yüksek olması, seçilen yöntemlerin Türkiye’deki sinyalize kavşaklar için doğrudan kullanılabilir (efektif) olmadığını göstermektedir. Bu durum, bu çalışma kapsamında önerilen Türkiye ve Türkiye gibi kavşak kollarında geometrik ve sürücü disiplinsizliklerinin bulunduğu ülkelere özgü gecikme ve kuyruk uzunluğu hesap yöntemlerinin geliştirilmesinin gerekliliğini açıkça ortaya koymaktadır., In recent years, due to the increasing number of vehicles in the world, the intense confusion and congestion problems observed at signalized intersections in undeveloped and developing countries caused an increase in interest for rearrangement of intersections. Despite the increase in interest, the authorities still have lack of knowledge and experience in design and standards and it may encourage them only to apply capacity enhancing solutions. In such countries where the number and width of the lanes at intersection legs are irregular, the design of intersection geometries is very important to develop delay and queue Length calculation methods by considering the cultural, educational, socioeconomic conditions of those countries. Within the scope of the study, the situation in Turkey (as a developing country), which has geometric problems at urban intersections, has been examined for six different signalized intersections in Antalya, which was chosen as the pilot city. On the other hand, Highway Capacity Manual-HCM (2010) and Australia (Akçelik) methods, which are the most widely used delay and queue length calculation methods in the literature, are examined for the calculation problems at signalized intersections for undeveloped and developing countries by considering their own traffic culture. According to the obtained results, when the intersection-based average absolute percent error (MAPE) values are averaged for six intersections, the method with the lowest average error (64.5%) for delay is found in HCM 2010, and the method with the lowest average error (40.9%) for queue length is found HCM 2010 again. According to these results, it is seen that the selected queue length methods measure the current situation at intersections with less error than the selected delay methods, but the fact that amount of errors are quite high and it indicates that the selected methods are not directly applicable (effective) for signalized intersections in Turkey. Obtained results clearly reveal the necessity to develop specific delay and queue length calculation methods for undeveloped and developing countries where there are geometric indisciplines at intersection legs.

Bu çalışmada, meta-sezgisel optimizasyon yöntemlerinin betonarme konsol istinat duvarlarının minimum maliyet ve CO2 salınımına göre optimum tasarımı problemindeki performansları araştırılmıştır. Araştırma için, biyo-coğrafya tabanlı ve sosyal örümcek optimizasyon algoritmaları kullanılmıştır. Minimum maliyet fonksiyonu, minimum karbondioksit salınımı fonksiyonu, minimum maliyet ve karbondioksitin salınımını içeren çok amaçlı fonksiyon optimizasyon probleminin amaç fonksiyonları olarak tanımlanmıştır. Optimizasyon probleminde on üç adet tasarım değişkeni tanımlanmıştır. Bunlardan sekiz tanesi istinat duvarının en kesitini oluşturan değişkenlerdir. Diğer beş tanesi ise duvar elemanların donatı detaylandırmasıdır. Eğilme ve kesme kapasite sınırlayıcıları, minimum ve maksimum donatı alanları, donatı detaylandırılmasında gerekli donatı uzunlukları ve göçme modların güvenlik katsayıları optimizasyon probleminin tasarım sınırlayıcıları olarak tanımlanmıştır. Eğilme ve kesme kapasitesi sınırlayıcıları ve donatı alanlarının minimum ve maksimum sınır değerleri Amerikan beton enstitüsü (ACI 318-14) tasarım şartnamesinden alınmıştır. Sunulan optimizasyon yöntemlerinin performanslarını test etmek için literatürdeki tasarım örnekleri kullanılmıştır. Buna ek olarak farklı beton ve çelik malzemeleri kullanılarak malzeme sınıflarının optimum CO2 salınımı ve maliyeti üzerindeki etkinliği araştırılmıştır.
