This study aimed to determine the relationship between preservice English teachers' special field competencies and their possible selves regarding their first year in the profession. The study, adopted by the quantitative research approach, is an example of a relational screening model. The sample of the study consists of a total of 357 preservice teachers studying in the English language teaching department in Turkey in the 2017-2018 academic year. The data of the study were collected by the "English Teacher Special Field Competencies Assessment Scale" and the "New Teacher Possible Selves Questionnaire". Descriptive statistics, Pearson product moment correlation and linear regression methods were used to analyze the data. In the study, it was determined that there was a moderate and positive relationship between pre-service teachers' special field competencies and their expected possible selves, and a moderate negative relationship with their feared possible selves scores. It has been determined that there was a moderate and positive relationship between special field competencies and expected possible selves while there was a moderate and negative relationship between the competencies and feared possible selves. Besides, it has been revealed that special field competencies are significant predictors of expected and feared possible selves.

This study aims to investigate the effects of authentic learning methods -- applied in science courses -- on the problem-solving skills and attitudes towards those courses. As a research design, a quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test control groups was used in the study. The data of the study were collected from 92 students at the level of 6th grade in Van, Turkey in the 2017-2018 academic year. As data collection tools, the Problem-Solving Skills Test and Science Attitude Scale were used throughout the study. During the data analysis phase, descriptive statistics, one-factor analysis of variance for unrelated samples, t-test for related samples, Kruskal Wallis-H and Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test were used. As a result of the study, it was realised that there was a significant difference between the experimental group and control groups' problemsolving skills total scores in favour of the experimental group. Furthermore, it was ascertained that authentic learning practices improved the problem-solving skills of the experimental group students to a significant extent. In terms of attitude points towards science, it was determined that the post-test scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than the control groups and authentic learning practices had a positive effect on attitude.

The aim of this study is to determine the school readiness of the 60-65 months first grade primary school students. The study was designed in accordance with qualitative case study. The participants of the study was composed of 20 teachers and 15 parents in Van/Turkey provincial districts in the 2017-2018 academic year. Semi-structured interview forms and an observation form were used as data collection tools in the study. Descriptive analysis was used in the analysis of the obtained data. As a result of the study, it was found that the students who start primary school in the age range of 60-65 months were not ready to start school and had difficulty in physical, emotional, cognitive and psycho-social readiness. In addition, this group falls behind the students in the 66-72 months in each of these areas. [Paper presented at the International STEMES Congress (Mus, Turkey, 2018).]

This study aimed to analyze the effects of authentic learning practices -applied in science course- on academic success. A quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test control groups was used in the study. The data of the study were collected from 92 students (31 of those in the experimental group, 31 of those in the control-I group and 30 of those in the control-II group) at the level of 6th grade in Van/Turkey in the 2017-2018 academic year. The academic success test developed by the researchers was used to collect data for the study. This test was applied to all three study groups as the pre-test, post-test and permanency test. Descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, ANCOVA, and repeated measures ANOVA were used to analyze the data obtained from the study. The results of the study showed that there was a significant difference between the experimental group and control groups in terms of academic success post-test and permanency test in favor of the experimental group. Besides, it was determined that authentic learning practices applied in the experimental group were effective in increasing academic success and provided permanent learning.

The aim of this research is to examine postgraduate theses on curriculum evaluation completed between the years 2006-2015 in Turkey in terms of various aspects such as university, year, curriculum which is evaluated, curriculum evaluation model, research method, design, sample type, data collection methods, data analysis technique. In order to determine the theses, a comprehensive review was made through the thesis database of Council of Higher Education (COHE). 306 postgraduate theses were used as data sources."Methodological structure determination form" was used as data collection tool in this study. Content analysis, one of qualitative data analysis techniques, was used in the analysis of theses. Frequency and percentage values about the obtained themes were presented. In the study, it was seen that theses on curriculum evaluation were largely studied between 2009-2012, most of them were master thesis, mostly primary school curricula were evaluated, curriculum evaluation models weren't used in the majority of the theses, mostly quantitative research methods and descriptive model was used, mostly survey and interview were used as data collection technique, data was collected from teachers and students in the majority of studies, one variable analyses and correlational analyses were mostly used as data analysis technique. In the light of results achieved, the more use of qualitative and mixed research methods, qualitative and experimental designs, all stakeholders as data sources, advanced statistical methods and the more evaluation of secondary and higher education curricula are recommended.

The aim of this study is to determine diverse problems of undergraduate Syrian students at Yüzüncü Yil University, Turkey. The study was conducted with 82 students using both quantitative and qualitative data collection tools. Descriptive statistics, t-test and descriptive analysis technique were used for data analysis. As a result of the study, it was found that Syrian students have problems in the four basic language skills; feel high levels (often) of homesickness; have good relations with their classmates and administrative staff, but some of them have serious problems with their instructors and with the local people.

The aim of this study is to access a new value classification and analyse the views of teacher and parents related to this classification. The general survey model was employed in this study. The population of this study is composed of school teachers working in primary schools and parents of their students in Eskisehir. The present study adopted a stratification sample, known as a purposeful sampling. The sample consists of 575 teachers and 1726 parents selected from the primary schools in Eskisehir. The Living Values Table was used to collection data. The data obtained were analysed on the computer with "SPSS for Windows, ver: 18.0" program. Signification of the analyses we made were tested at the level of 0.05. Hierarchical cluster analysis was used to access the value classification. A value classification composing of five classes (conservative-traditional values, national- ethnic values, self oriented-personal values, social-community values, scientific-innovative values) was obtained in the study. The scores given for conservative-traditional values and social-community values showed a statistical significance in favour of parents; the scores given for national-ethnic values, self oriented-personal values, and scientific-innovative values showed a statistical significance in favour of teachers.
