This letter proposes a method to calculate the expected value of the shielding effectiveness of a composite material slab, including a planar array of randomly oriented metal helices as chiral particles. Helix‐loaded concrete composite materials are advantageous for electromagnetic interference shielding applications. While planar periodic arrays of chiral particles have been extensively studied, this research discusses a non‐periodic array in which the helical particle axis direction in each unit cell is random. This method estimates the slab's shielding effectiveness by defining it as a random variable expanded into three independent basis‐like functions. Comparisons with full‐wave simulations show acceptable agreement across a wide frequency range, with a total RMS error of 0.9 dB. This study additionally includes an experimental measurement to validate the proposed method. This technique provides the initial step in developing an analytical method to analyse and estimate the transmitted power of general structures using a stochastic approach. Generative syntax was built on the foundations of Immediate Constituent (IC) analysis, and IC methods and heuristics were an important tool in the early days of the generative enterprise. However, developments in the theory entailed a departure from some fundamental IC assumptions: we will argue that structural descriptions in contemporary generative grammar (transformational and non-transformational) define not constituents, but strictly ordered sequences closer to arrays. We therefore define and characterise IC approaches to syntax as opposed to what we will call Array-Based (AB) approaches. IC grammars define distributional generalisations, and proper containment and is-a relations between indexed distributionally defined categories. AB grammars, in contrast, define strictly ordered sequences of categories. In this paper we introduce and define the fundamental properties of IC grammar, and the changes in the generative theory that introduced arrays in phrase structure. We argue that it is crucial to distinguish between IC and AB grammars when evaluating the empirical adequacy of structural descriptions used in current syntactic theorising, as structures in AB and IC grammars represent different relations between expressions and may be better suited for different purposes. Thirty-seven portable accelerometers were deployed in the eastern San Francisco Bay communities of Walnut Creek and Concord to study site response in a fault-bounded, urban, sedimentary basin. Local earthquakes were recorded for a period of two years from 2017 to 2019 resulting in 101 well-recorded events. Site response is estimated by two methods: the reference site spectral ratio method and a source-site spectral inversion method. The reference site spectral ratio method allows investigation of the variability of site amplification with source azimuth and frequency. The source-site spectral inversion method yields the best least-squares fit to site response for a database of ground-motion records. Both methods show substantial amplification in the Walnut Creek-Concord basin below 2 Hz indicating strong surface-wave development. Greater amplification is seen for sources aligned along the long axis of the basin. Inversion using close-in sources at short distances yields lower amplification at longer periods than the entire data set due to reduced surface-wave generation for steeper angles of incidence. Inversion of site response spectra for shallow shear-wave velocity using a global search algorithm yields VS30 values consistent with generalized mapping results based on geology and topography but with greater variability due to local site variations. 3D finite-element modeling shows greater amplification in the Walnut Creek-Concord basin with a basin-edge effect likely contributing to higher ground motions. The objective functions adopted by earthquake early warning (EEW) location algorithms are inadequate for out-of-network earthquakes. As a result, the real-time locations of these earthquakes are often erroneous. The consequences of mislocating out-of-network earthquakes are that their magnitudes are miscalculated, and the loci of their shaking predictions map are shifted. Given that the largest earthquakes occur in subduction settings, improving real-time out-of-network earthquake location is of great importance. In this study, the Virtual Dynamically Assembled Array Algorithm (ViDA³) is introduced, which addresses the location issue of offshore and off-network earthquakes. The guiding principle underlying the new EEW location algorithm is that standard seismic networks may be viewed as a collection of medium-sized seismic arrays, with each array consisting of three or more network stations. The potential of array seismology for EEW against out-of-network earthquakes stems primarily from the slowness vector, which points at the direction of the epicentral region. Thus, this region may be constrained merely by intersecting two or more such vectors. In addition, the length of the slowness vector depends on the hypocentral distance and depth and is thus vital for addressing an acute problem in a subduction setting--discriminating between upper crust and deep slab earthquakes. Furthermore, when the slowness of the P phase is known, the slowness of the S phase is deduced, and the S-phase arrival is searched for using the shift-and-sum practice. What makes ViDA³ so attractive is that, in locations where a real-time network is already in place, these added values may be achieved without extra hardware or substantial budget requirements. We present the result of ViDA³ real-time operation on a shallow earthquake offshore Vancouver Island and the result of its replay on a deep slab earthquake in northern Chile. performance is further assessed using a dataset of seismograms from the Mendocino Triple Junction area. The correlation between seismic and acoustic signals can be used to quantify the influence of earthquake ground motion on the output signals of infrasound sensors and thus evaluate the performance of infrasound sensors under field conditions. However, there have been relatively few studies, and earthquakes considered in those studies are large magnitude events. There remains a need to quantify correlation mechanisms at high frequencies using small earthquakes. In this study, we utilize a collocated seismoacoustic station BJT and a six-element infrasound array DQS to study different coupling mechanisms for infrasound sensors. From 2019 to 2021, 11 and 37 small magnitude earthquakes were detected by BJT and DQS, respectively. Seismoacoustic signals from these small magnitude earthquakes are used to compute the seismoacoustic spectral ratio and the observed spectral ratios are then compared with theoretical estimates. For local seismic-to-acoustic coupling (local infrasound), the highly local pressure field induced by high-frequency ground motion and the separation between seismoacoustic sensors reduce seismic and acoustic signal correlation, which prevents the use of small earthquakes in current studies. The seismic sensitivity of the infrasound sensor, MB3a is shown to be for ground acceleration or for ground velocity and may be an important source of high-frequency noise for an infrasound station using this sensor. Furthermore, an empirical relation is developed to constrain the characteristics of earthquakes that can generate coupled signals on the infrasound sensor. Partial shading deteriorates the overall performance of photovoltaic (PV) arrays by reducing the power output. Various shading mitigation strategies have been proposed in the literature with vulnerabilities of limited applications, switches, sensor counts, design, cost, and complexities. In this paper, a multi-string differential power processing (MS-DPP) based voltage equalizer is proposed for power output improvement in the PV arrays during shading. The equalizer is utilized for the series-parallel array which is equipped with a shading detection system achieved from the optimal placement of minimum sensor counts. The technique uses the concept of a switching capacitor that balances the voltage ratio between the modules of individual strings to ensure higher power generation and convex power curves during shading. The system is simulated and validated in MATLAB simulation and further verified on the OPAL-RT 4510 hardware-in-loop FPGA-based real-time platform. The technique is executed on three array sizes and compared with existing techniques under static and dynamic partial shading cases. Periodically ordered δ-MnO2 arrays were fabricated by polystyrene (PS) nanosphere lithography combined with following hydrothermal synthesis. The periodicity of δ-MnO2 arrays was varied by choosing PS nanospheres of different diameters. Then Au nanoparticles (NPs) were deposited on the δ-MnO2 units to form Au-MnO2 arrays samples. The PATP-to-DMAB model reaction was applied to detect the influence of MnO2 units periodicity on surface plasmon resonance (SPR)-mediated photocatalytic performance of Au-MnO2 arrays samples under 633 nm irradiation. The photocatalytic performance on the Au-MnO2 array sample of 500 nm period presented ~ 16% superior photocatalytic activities relative to that of Au-MnO2 array sample of 800 nm period. The surface plasmon polaritons (SPP) of plasmonic NPs can change the propagation path of incident light to vertical direction after scattering on them. The Au-MnO2 array sample of 500 nm period possessed the distance between neighbor MnO2 units smaller than the wavelength of irradiation light, and thus the scattered light interfered with each other after the incident light was scattered by the Au NPs on the neighbor MnO2 units. Then the electric field (E-field) intensities near Au NPs were elevated due to the interference effect. Since the SPR-mediated photocatalytic activity is proportional to the square value of local E-field intensity (E2), thus the photocatalytic activities on Au NPs were enhanced. Therefore, our finding may provide a novel avenue to design SPR-enhanced photocatalysts by the deposition of plasmonic metals on periodically ordered arrays. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this paper, a novel wideband circularly polarized (CP) array antenna is proposed. The array element is composed of four driven patches, four parasitic patches, and a loop feeding structure. On the basis of the array element structure, 1 × 2 and 2 × 2 arrays with shared patches are formed separately. Compared with the traditional structure, the volume of the 1 × 2 array antenna which only shares the patches in the x direction is reduced by 15%, and the volume of the 2 × 2 array antenna which shares the patches in the x and y directions is further reduced by 28%. The cleverness of this method is that it can keep the impedance bandwidth almost unchanged. To validate the simulated results, antenna prototypes are fabricated and measured. The results of the measurements demonstrate that the impedance bandwidths of the 1 × 2 and 2 × 2 array antennas are 27.2% (5.40–7.10 GHz) and 35.7% (5.22–7.49 GHz), respectively, and the 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidths are 22.7% (5.31–6.67 GHz) and 25.4% (5.47–7.06 GHz), respectively. In addition, the measured data show that the 1 × 2 array exhibits a peak gain of 11.1 dBic, and the 2 × 2 array achieves a peak gain of 12.6 dBic. Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS), equipped with a large number of small, low‐cost, and re‐configurable elements, is envisioned as a potential enabler for the upcoming 5G‐Advanced and 6G networks. Here, based on a flexibly tunable and readily programmable RIS, the capability of beamforming toward arbitrary desired directions and coverage enhancement are investigated and experimentally demonstrated. The theory of RIS‐based beamforming is introduced, the simulated beamforming radiation patterns are provided, and an over‐the‐air radiated testing platform is designed for characterizing RIS beamforming performance. The RIS beam steering radiation performance tests are conducted, and the radiation patterns for different directions are extracted and analyzed. In addition, the indoor field trials on the RIS performance evaluation of enhancing coverage are reported. The field trials for multiple RIS‐deployed scenarios, including RIS mirror placement, RIS non‐mirror placement, and non‐RIS assisted scenarios, are conducted, and the channel characteristics for those scenarios are extracted and modelled. Significant improvements in overcoming path loss and shadow fading in typical coverage holes can be observed. Aiming at solving the problem that the capability of direction of arrival method for estimation of nested arrays decreases sharply under unknown mutual coupling, an iterative weighted low‐rank matrix reconstruction algorithm is proposed here. First, the received data covariance matrix is extended, and a weighted low‐rank matrix recovery problem is formulated for joint estimations of the Toeplitz matrix and mutual coupling coefficients. Next, the direction of arrival from recovered Toeplitz matrix is retrieved by using the root multiple signal classification algorithm. Simulation results show that iterative weighted low‐rank matrix reconstruction algorithm can effectively avoid the influence of mutual coupling while solving the grid‐mismatch problem so that the accuracy and the resolution of estimation are improved. Many populations migrate between two different habitats (e.g. wintering/foraging to breeding area, mainstem–tributary, river–lake, river–ocean, river–side channel) as part of their life history. Detection technologies, such as passive integrated transponder (PIT) antennas or sonic receivers, can be placed at boundaries between habitats (e.g. near the confluence of rivers) to detect migratory movements of marked animals. Often, these detection systems have high detection probabilities and detect many individuals but are limited in their ability to make inferences about abundance because only marked individuals can be detected.Here, we introduce a mark–recapture modelling approach that uses detections from a double‐array PIT antenna system to imply movement directionality from arrays and estimate migration timing. Additionally, when combined with physical captures, the model can be used to estimate abundances for both migratory and non‐migratory groups and help quantify partial migration. We first test our approach using simulation, and results indicate our approach displayed negligible bias for total abundance (less than ±1%) and slight biases for state‐specific abundance estimates (±1%–6%).We fit our model to array detections and physical captures of three native fishes (humpback chub [Gila cypha], flannelmouth sucker [Catostomus latipinnis] and bluehead sucker [Catostomus discobolus]) in the Little Colorado River (LCR) in Grand Canyon, AZ, a system that exhibits partial migration (i.e. includes residents and migrants). Abundance estimates from our model confirm that, for all three species, migratory individuals are much more numerous than residents.There was little difference in movement timing between 2021 (a year without preceding winter/spring floods) and 2022 (a year with a small flood occurring in early April). In both years, flannelmouth sucker arrived in mid‐March whereas humpback chub and bluehead sucker arrivals occurred early‐ to mid‐April. With humpback chub and flannelmouth sucker, movement timing was influenced by body size so that large individuals were more likely to arrive early compared to smaller individuals.With more years of data, this model framework could be used to evaluate ecological questions pertaining to flow cues and movement timing or intensity, relative trends in migrants versus residents and ecological drivers of skipped spawning. We propose a method for capturing the near-surface elastic wave velocity variation using microtremors. The proposed method does not directly estimate the velocity of the medium; instead, it measures the spatial velocity change. We apply the stretching method, which is often used to detect the time variation of shear wave velocity based on the monitoring of seismic ambient noise, to microtremor recordings. Because spatially dense ambient noise records are unavailable, we performed microtremor measurements using multiple linear arrays with multiple sensors along the survey line to collect as many recordings as possible. The synchronised microtremor recordings of each array were used to compute the horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (H/V), cross-correlation (CC), autocorrelation (AC), and single-station cross-correlation (SC). The H/V ratio and the waveforms of these correlation functions showed significant spatial variation. The velocity variation was measured quantitatively using the stretching method, which correlates a compressed and stretched reference function with each function on the line. The velocity variation of the vertical and radial components of CC compares well with the variation of the H/V peak, indicating that the radial components of CC retrieved the Rayleigh-wave Green's function. The waveforms of AC and SC also showed spatial variation but the measured value of velocity change was smaller than that for CC. Further investigation is awaited to conclude if this is due to low-quality data or inappropriate measurement conditions. Compute‐in‐memory (CIM) is a pioneering approach using parallel data processing to eliminate traditional data transmission bottlenecks for faster, energy‐efficient data handling. Crossbar arrays with two‐terminal devices such as memristors and phase‐change memory are commonly employed in CIM, but they encounter challenges such as leakage current and increased power usage. Three‐terminal transistor arrays have potential solutions, yet large‐scale electrolyte‐gated transistors (EGTs) demonstrations are uncommon due to compatibility issues with existing photolithography processes. Herein, a 20 × 20 EGTs array is designed using indium‐gallium‐zinc‐oxide as the semiconductor channel and polyacrylonitrile (PAN) doped with C2F6LiNO4S2 as the electrolyte. Each transistor unit in the array can serve as a synapse, exhibiting a large conductance range, low energy consumption (6.984 fJ) for read–write operations, excellent repeatability, and quasilinear update characteristics. It has been confirmed that the EGTs array not only enables precise device programming but also virtually eliminates signal interference between neighboring devices during the programming process. Using 54 transistors in the EGTs array, unsupervised learning with a winner‐takes‐all neural network is successfully demonstrated. After 50 training iterations, the neural network achieves perfect 100% accuracy in classifying test‐set letters. Chemical tongues are emerging powerful bioanalytical tools that mimic the mechanism of the human taste system to recognize the comprehensive characteristics of complex biological samples. By using an array of chromogenic or fluorogenic probes that interact non-specifically with various components in the samples, this tool generates unique colorimetric or fluorescence patterns that reflect the biological composition of a sample. These patterns are then analyzed using multivariate analysis or machine learning to distinguish and classify the samples. This review focuses on our efforts to provide an overview of the fundamental principles of chemical tongues, probe design, and their applications as versatile tools for analyzing proteins, cells, and bacteria in biological samples. Compared to conventional methods that rely on specific targeting (e.g., antibodies or enzymes) or comprehensive omics analyses, chemical tongues offer advantages in terms of cost and the ability to analyze samples without the need for specific biomarkers. The complementary use of chemical tongues and conventional methods is expected to enable a more detailed understanding of biological samples and lead to the elucidation of new biological phenomena.

Abstract In the realms of 5G and the upcoming 6G communications, the millimeter‐wave bands offer substantially greater bandwidth. However, due to their propagation characteristics, aligning antennas becomes a challenging issue, particularly at the node side in industrial and vehicular network applications. Angle‐scanning antennas can significantly enhance communication reliability or provide new possibilities for spatial multiplexing. Previous studies have predominantly concentrated on frequency‐scanning antennas characterized by either low‐gain individual units or expensive digital arrays. Consequently, there has been a scarcity of solutions that are both cost‐effective and high‐gain. In this study, a method is proposed for achieving frequency scanning by extending the feed lines between elements. Based on this approach, a millimeter‐wave high‐gain serial‐feed frequency‐scanning antenna is developed. This antenna operates within the 60–64 GHz millimeter‐wave ISM (Industrial, Scientific, and Medical) band and is capable of performing a 10∘ scan in the E‐plane. Moreover, the antenna maintains a width of less than half a wavelength, allowing for the assembly of multiple antennas into a MIMO array.

This article presents the optical analysis on how the light coupling performance between optical channel waveguides and gold periodic nanoarrays in the visible spectrum can be improved using an indium tin oxide (ITO) thin film as buffer layer. Coupling efficiency, out-of-plane scattering and far-field projected beam focus and diffraction angle are evaluated using Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method and scattering theory for different nanogratings and nanocylinders array patterns. The implementation of ITO enables up to a 12 fold increase in coupling efficiency, a 6.4 fold enhancement of light scattered out of the array plane and consequent improvements in the diffracted beam radiation intensity peaks, without compromising the beam's focus or altering its deflection angle. This configuration provides a cheap and simple solution to increase the device performance without changing the array features, for integrated biosensing and scattering-related applications.

This paper studies how to use relation algebras, which are useful for high-level specification and verification, for proving the correctness of lower-level array-based implementations of algorithms. We give a simple relation-algebraic semantics of read and write operations on associative arrays. The array operations seamlessly integrate with assignments in computation models supporting while-programs. As a result, relation algebras can be used for verifying programs with associative arrays. We verify the correctness of an array-based implementation of disjoint-set forests using the union-by-rank strategy and find operations with path compression, path splitting and path halving. Abstract This letter introduces a novel bandwidth‐enhanced low‐profile (thin structure) patch antenna adopting double U‐slot loading and parasitic structures. The proposed antenna features single‐layer topology, thin structure of 0.027 λ, enhanced −10 dB impedance bandwidth of 12.5%, and unidirectional radiation pattern at Ku‐band. Performances of the proposed antenna are validated through full‐wave simulations and measurements. The proposed antenna element is further duplicated to form a 2×2 patch antenna array, with the parasitic structures shared by adjacent elements. The proposed antenna demonstrates potential in applications demanding wideband, highly directional radiation, and thin structure for seamless integration.

Compute‐in‐memory (CIM) is a pioneering approach using parallel data processing to eliminate traditional data transmission bottlenecks for faster, energy‐efficient data handling. Crossbar arrays with two‐terminal devices such as memristors and phase‐change memory are commonly employed in CIM, but they encounter challenges such as leakage current and increased power usage. Three‐terminal transistor arrays have potential solutions, yet large‐scale electrolyte‐gated transistors (EGTs) demonstrations are uncommon due to compatibility issues with existing photolithography processes. Herein, a 20 × 20 EGTs array is designed using indium‐gallium‐zinc‐oxide as the semiconductor channel and polyacrylonitrile (PAN) doped with C2F6LiNO4S2 as the electrolyte. Each transistor unit in the array can serve as a synapse, exhibiting a large conductance range, low energy consumption (6.984 fJ) for read–write operations, excellent repeatability, and quasilinear update characteristics. It has been confirmed that the EGTs array not only enables precise device programming but also virtually eliminates signal interference between neighboring devices during the programming process. Using 54 transistors in the EGTs array, unsupervised learning with a winner‐takes‐all neural network is successfully demonstrated. After 50 training iterations, the neural network achieves perfect 100% accuracy in classifying test‐set letters. The work demonstrates the potential of EGTs for constructing large‐scale integration synaptic array toward efficient computing architectures.

Almost all applications stop scaling at some point; those that don't are seldom performant when considering time to solution on anything but aspirational/unicorn resources. Recognizing these tradeoffs as well as greater user functionality in a near-term exascale computing era, we present libEnsemble, a library aimed at particular scalability- and capability-stretching uses. libEnsemble enables running concurrent instances of an application in dynamically allocated ensembles through an extensible Python library. We highlight the structure, execution, and capabilities of the library on leading pre-exascale environments as well as advanced capabilities for exascale environments and beyond.

The applications being developed within the U.S. Exascale Computing Project (ECP) to run on imminent Exascale computers will generate scientific results with unprecedented fidelity and record turn-around time. Many of these codes are based on particle-mesh methods and use advanced algorithms, especially dynamic load-balancing and mesh-refinement, to achieve high performance on Exascale machines. Yet, as such algorithms improve parallel application efficiency, they raise new challenges for I/O logic due to their irregular and dynamic data distributions. Thus, while the enormous data rates of Exascale simulations already challenge existing file system write strategies, the need for efficient read and processing of generated data introduces additional constraints on the data layout strategies that can be used when writing data to secondary storage. We review these I/O challenges and introduce two online data layout reorganization approaches for achieving good tradeoffs between read and write performance. We demonstrate the benefits of using these two approaches for the ECP particle-in-cell simulation WarpX, which serves as a motif for a large class of important Exascale applications. We show that by understanding application I/O patterns and carefully designing data layouts we can increase read performance by more than 80 percent.

Array processing is an integral part of automatic seismic event detection pipelines for measuring apparent velocity and backazimuth of seismic arrivals. Both quantities are usually measured under the plane-wave assumption, and are essential to classify the phase type and to determine the direction toward the event epicenter. However, structural inhomogeneities can lead to deviations from the plane-wave model, which must be taken into account for phase classification and back-azimuth estimation. We suggest a combined classification and regression neural network, which we call ArrayNet, to determine the phase type and backazimuth directly from the arrival-time differences between all combinations of stations of a given seismic array without assuming a plane-wave model. ArrayNet is trained using regional P- and S-wave arrivals of over 30,000 seismic events from reviewed regional bulletins in northern Europe from the past three decades. ArrayNet models are generated and trained for each of the ARCES, FINES, and SPITS seismic arrays. We observe excellent performance for the seismic phase classification (up to 99% accuracy), and the derived back-azimuth residuals are significantly improved in comparison with traditional array processing results using the plane-wave assumption. The SPITS array in Svalbard exhibits particular issues when it comes to array processing in the form of high apparent seismic velocities and a multitude of frost quake signals inside the array, and we show how our new approach better handles these obstacles. Furthermore, we demonstrate the performance of ArrayNet on 20 months of continuous phase detections from the ARCES array and investigate the results for a selection of regional seismic events of interest. Our results demonstrate that automatic event detection at seismic arrays can be further enhanced using a machine learning approach that takes advantage of the unique array data recorded at these stations. In this article, we demonstrate that a single station can be used to measure the dynamic properties of a structure. The station includes a collocated accelerometer and rotational sensor, hence, can record both three-component translation and three-component rotation and is referred to as the 6C-station within this study. The key advantage of this approach is to provide a fast and simple path to a comprehensive structural health monitoring characterization that is comparable to the use of a traditional approach using a horizontal array of three-component accelerometers. The deployment of newly developed high-quality rotational sensors allows the direct measurement of structural rotations, facilitating the extraction of structural mode shapes. In this work, we show how an established system identification tool, stochastic subspace identification, can be applied to the 6C-station data and characterize modal properties and structural response. Our results are verified and contrasted against standard horizontal and vertical array configurations. The Prime Tower, a high-rise structure in Zürich, serves as a case study. A structural characterization of this building is presented for the first time. We show that a 6C-station is capable of defining the frequencies of this stiff high-rise building with a fidelity that is on par with a five-sensor horizontal array. The mode shapes of the roof can be precisely determined with a confidence margin that is comparable to conventional sensing array solutions. However, the effectiveness of using only a 6C-station is determined by the noise level of the sensors--in particular, the rotational seismometer needs to be of high quality. The results indicate that, owing to the collocation measurement of translation and rotation, a 6C-station can deliver a comprehensive structural monitoring solution with minimum time, effort, and footprint. The emerging nonvolatile memories (NVMs), such as spin transfer torque random access memory (STT-RAM) and racetrack memory (RTM), offer a promising solution to satisfy the memory and performance requirements of modern applications. Compared to the commonly utilized volatile static random-access memories (SRAMs), the NVMs provide better capacity and energy efficiency. However, many of these NVMs are still in the development phases and require proper evaluation in order to evaluate the impact of their use at the system level. Therefore, there is a need to design functional- and cycleaccurate simulators/emulators to evaluate the performance of these memory technologies. To this end, this work focuses on implementing a RISC-V-based emulation platform for evaluating NVMs. The proposed framework provides interfaces to integrate various types of NVMs, with RTMs and STT-RAMs used as test cases. The development of wave energy converter (WEC) arrays is an effective way to reduce the cost of levelized energy and facilitate the commercialization of WECs. This study proposes a hydraulic power take-off (PTO) system for an array of point absorber wave energy converters (PA-WECs) and designs a control system using a novel algorithm called the improved simplified universal intelligent PID (ISUIPID) controller and the adaptive matching controller including an improved artificial gorilla troops optimizer (IGTO) to improve and stabilize the output power of PA-WEC arrays. Simulations under varying irregular wave states have been carried out to verify the validity of the mathematical model and the control system. The results show that the designed IGTO has faster convergence speed and better convergence accuracy in solving the optimal linear damping coefficient of the generator, and the proposed ISUIPID controller provides superior performance in tracking the speed of the hydraulic motor under the changing sea states. In addition, the capture power and output power of the array of PA-WECs are improved and the electrical energy can be output stably under the designed control system. The array of PA-WECs with the proposed control system will become an independent, stable, efficient, and sustainable power supply system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The selective growth of semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (s-SWCNTs) is of great importance in many high-end applications represented by nanoelectronics. Here, we developed a general approach to grow horizontally aligned s-SWCNT arrays on stable temperature (ST)-cut quartz with bimetallic catalysts using carbon monoxide (CO) as both catalyst reductant and single component carbon feedstock under atmospheric pressure. The disproportionation of CO produces not only carbon species for SWCNT growth but also CO2, which could act as an in-situ etchant to remove both amorphous carbon and metallic tubes. The employment of bimetallic catalyst and quartz substrate facilitates the selective etching by narrowing the diameter distribution of as-grown SWCNT arrays. At the optimized conditions, we realized the selective growth of horizontally aligned s-SWCNT arrays with the content above 97% using CoCu catalysts, confirmed by Raman characterization and electrical measurements of the fabricated field effect transistor devices. This CO-based process in selective growth of s-SWCNTs has demonstrated its feasibility and universality by the broad growth window and applicability for other bimetallic catalysts, such as FeCu and CoMn. It possesses a practical potential in obtaining semiconducting channel materials for the scalable fabrication of CNT-based devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this article, we enrich McCarthy's theory of extensional arrays with a length and a maxdiff operation. As is well-known, some diff operation (i.e., some kind of difference function showing where two unequal arrays differ) is needed to keep interpolants quantifier free in array theories. Our maxdiff operation returns the max index where two arrays differ; thus, it has a univocally determined semantics. The length function is a natural complement of such a maxdiff operation and is needed to handle real arrays. Obtaining interpolation results for such a rich theory is a surprisingly hard task.We get such results via a thorough semantic analysis of the models of the theory and of their amalgamation and strong amalgamation properties. The results are modular with respect to the index theory; we show how to convert them into concrete interpolation algorithms via a hierarchical approach realizing a polynomial reduction to interpolation in linear arithmetics endowed with free function symbols. The evolution of architectural arrays in the Qajar houses of Kermanshah appeared due to the architectural changes under the influence of Western architectural patterns in Iran. The development of the architectural decorations of these houses was manifested by using the concepts of aesthetics, creativity, and thoughts of architect artists in accordance with the needs and facilities available in this period. In this research, how to use architectural arrays, especially in Faiz Mahdavi’s house in Kermanshah city as a valuable cultural-heritage collection in the historical context of the city and the analysis of the influence of architectural development patterns in the architectural arrays of Qajar houses have been raised as the basic research questions that have been raised so far Not evaluated. This research with the historical, interpretive, and comparative research method during the stages of “investigating the patterns of arrays and determining the influential components of traditional Iranian architecture and Western architecture in Qajar houses”; “Comparative analysis of how and the extent of influence of traditional Iranian architecture and Western architecture in the architectural arrays of Faiz Mahdavi’s house” and “explanation and evaluation of how and how much the architectural arrays are modeled on traditional Iranian architecture and Western architecture in Faiz Mahdavi’s house” were carried out. The analysis of the subject in this article was made possible based on the collection of data gathered through document analysis, library research, and field studies. Analyzing and summarizing the results obtained from the evaluation findings of this research comparatively shows that the evolutions and patterning of the architectural arrays of Faiz Mahdavi’s Qajar house, during two different stages, the outer and inner spaces of the house were initially influenced by the traditional Iranian architectural decorations in the form of simple decorations and then Combining the art of traditional decorations with luxurious western decorations.

It is demonstrated that combining phased array antennas with dielectric lenses constitutes a suitable solution to increase the energy efficiency in next‐generation communication systems. A dielectric lens is designed to increase the gain of an array antenna working in the 3GPP n257 band (26.5–29.5 GHz). The simulated results demonstrate that the dielectric lens increases the gain between 0.4 and 1.3 dB in a large scanning range from 0° to 60° at 28 GHz; meaning that the output RF power can be decreased by up to 26% for a same equivalent isotropic radiated power required from the base station. Summary: We explored the relevance of genomic microarrays (GM) in the refinement of prognosis in newly diagnosed low‐risk chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) patients as defined by isolated del(13q) or no lesions by a standard 4 probe fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis. Compared to FISH, additional lesions were detected by GM in 27 of the 119 patients (22.7%). The concordance rate between FISH and GM was 87.4%. Discordant results between cytogenetic banding analysis (CBA) and GM were observed in 45/119 cases (37.8%) and were mainly due to the intrinsic characteristics of each technique. The presence of additional lesions by GM was associated with age > 65 years (p = 0.047), advanced Binet stage (p = 0.001), CLL‐IPI score (p < 0.001), a complex karyotype (p = 0.004) and a worse time‐to‐first treatment in multivariate analysis (p = 0.009). Additional lesions by GM were also significantly associated with a worse time‐to‐first treatment in the subset of patients with wild‐type TP53 and mutated IGHV (p = 0.025). In CLL patients with low‐risk features, the presence of additional lesions identified by GM helps to identify a subset of patients with a worse outcome that could be proposed for a risk‐adapted follow‐up and for early treatment including targeted agents within clinical trials. Gold has many exciting properties that justify its use in a wide range of applications. While gold nanoparticles are frequently used, nanorings offer an interesting new geometry. Unfortunately, few technologies exist to fabricate nanorings, which are often created by multistep lithographic methods. Furthermore, nanoring arrays are even more difficult to achieve. Herein, a one‐step, one‐pot electrodeposition method to realize arrays of gold nanorings with tunable parameters is demonstrated. It is shown that the electrodeposition of gold nanoring arrays can be easily achieved when one submerges a water droplet containing HAuCl4 into an oil‐phase containing a quaternary ammonium salt. These conditions allow for the spontaneous emulsification at the water|oil interface. The nanorings can be deposited at the edges of the emulsion droplets that become adsorbed to the electrode. Changing the concentrations of species, submersion time, and electrodeposition parameters allows us to tune relevant parameters of the array of nanorings, including the thickness and size of the rings. Blood pressure is an important indicator that reflects human health status. Since long‐term monitoring of blood pressure waveforms can provide important information for the diagnosis and prevention of cardiovascular disease. Wearable, non‐invasive, and continuous monitoring of blood pressure waveforms have become a current research hotspot. In this paper, a fabric‐based ultrasound sensors are produced for continuous non‐invasive monitoring of blood pressure waveforms by combining an "S"‐shaped stretchable island bridge electrode with a fabric substrate utilizing hot press transfer. The results show that the 4 × 5 array ultrasound sensors can locate arterial vessels deep in the tissue, allowing accurate, and continuous monitoring of blood pressure. Its axial resolution can reach 330 µm, and the elongation at the break of the "S"‐shaped electrode can reach 35.6%. The prepared sensor has good air permeability and stability, and does not cause skin irritation during long‐term wear. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We have studied the asymmetric transmission in diffractive chiral metasurfaces consisting of nanoantennas. The study was made of lattice plasmon modes on the phenomenon of asymmetric transmission in chiral two dimensional arrays of plasmonic nanoparticles. It was demonstrated that asymmetric transmission resulted from contribution of higher order diffracted waves. It was shown that the isolated nanostructures has a fourfold rotational symmetry, the diffractive metasurfaces exhibited asymmetric transmission for normal incidence light within spectral range for which lattice plasmon modes were supported. It was found that lattice plasmon modes played role in enabling symmetric transmission in diffractive chiral metasurfaces. The symmetric transmission mechanism is due to different lattice plasmon mode excitation efficiencies of left circularly polarized and right circularly polarized and right circularly polarized light. The excitation efficiencies are controlled by tailoring the nano particles in plan distribution of scattered light for circularly polarized excitation and its alignment with the inplane diffraction orders of the metasurfaces. The phenomenon for a metasurface composed of an array of a chiral nanoparticles consisting of four nanoantennas. It was shown that the Rayleigh anomaly condition where the asymmetric transmission effect was strongest and metasurfaces supported lattice plasmon modes. It was found that the difference in the inplane scattered intensity varied as a function of the inplane angle around the nanostructure, rotating the nanostructure in the plane of the metasurface.
