The article analyzes the growing interest in Yiddish and artistic expressions related to Eastern European Jewish culture in the Río de la Plata region. It highlights the formation of klezmer music bands and the increase in the number of people studying the language. The IWO Foundation is the main place for Yiddish studies in Argentina and has seen an increase in the number of students in recent years. Despite the perception of Yiddish decline, movements and practices promoting its study and preservation have been maintained. Yiddish students in Argentina are mostly elderly people, descendants of Eastern European immigrants, who have Spanish as their mother tongue and Yiddish as part of their childhood and adolescence. Although it is recognized that Yiddish is in decline, Yiddish students seek to recover ties with the past and use the language as a means of communication. [Extracted from the article]

This paper addresses the current rise in acceptability and legitimacy of and participation in Chabad-Lubavitch by non-Orthodox Argentine Jews, both in Argentina and abroad. The study draws on ethnographic and qualitative interview data among three groups of Argentine Jews: those who live in the USA, those who have lived abroad but repatriated to Argentina, and frequent travelers between Argentina and other countries. The study places the migrants (permanent, transitory, or return) at the heart of the analysis and examines ways in which information about Chabad is shared among transnational networks. The result is greater attendance at Chabad enters and a rise in acceptability of the Chabad-Lubavitch, leading to an enlarged network of participants within the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, both at the center and at the margin. The article examines the transition of Jewish Argentine author César Tiempo from a celebrity to an outcast of the local Jewish community in the 1930s. It attributes the decline in popularity of Tiempo to his decision to accept the editorship of the cultural supplement "La Prensa." Also noted is the acceptance of Peronism by Tiempo. It cites the implication of the focus of literature on Jews as members of Jewish institutions for the history of their involvement in non-Jewish politics.

The article features Jewish Argentine antifascist Fanny Edelman. She is the daughter of poor Jewish immigrants from Russia, started working after finishing primary school, and joined the Communist Party in 1934. Edelman became part of the Popular Front movement Junta de la Victoria (JV), which is known for advocating for women's rights, after the German invasion of the Soviet Union. Her militancy was influenced by antifacism and she embraced feminism later in life.

By examining reports and discussions among Israeli diplomats from 1982 to 1984, this paper seeks to expand the discourse on Israeli-Latin American-Jewish relations, investigating Israel's perceptions of Jews' safety in Argentina during the end of its dictatorship. The analysis deepens the understanding of the experiences and dynamics in Israel's approaches towards Argentine Jews in contexts of crisis, tracing the development of Israeli views, including difficulties in maintaining relations with the Jewish community during times of political uncertainty. Despite the numerous critical political crises in Argentine and Latin American history, Israeli diplomats' attempts to cope with Latin American political ambiguity has not received enough attention in Latin American-Jewish studies, especially in terms of the triangle of the Israeli-Latin American-Jewish community. This article proposes to refine these approaches, exploring Israel's decisions and attitudes in terms of its relations with Latin America and with Jews, not only according to the dichotomy between the politics and ethnicity of the Jewish State. Este artículo examina las conexiones entre el pasado y el presente realizadas mediante manifestaciones de arte verbal en su contexto de actuación y de reflexiones metapragmáticas acerca de ellas por integrantes del colectivo social judío argentino. El objetivo es determinar los modos en que se configura la memoria grupal a través de expresiones de la poética del habla. El trabajo se centra en un género narrativo particular, a partir de la definición de los hablantes y de su uso. Se establecen así las maneras en que mediante el juego con el lenguaje en contextos informales los narradores, hijos de inmigrantes judíos nacidos en Argentina, delinean en la situación de enunciación actual ejes de continuidad y discontinuidad con diferentes pasados: el vivido propiamente por los hablantes o sus antepasados, otro proveniente de la vida judía en Europa Oriental, y uno procedente de textos sagrados.This article examines the connections between the present and the past established by Argentine Jews through the performance of verbal art expressions and metapragmatic considerations about them. The work focuses specifically on how certain expressions of the poetics of speech shape group memory. In particular, it deals with one narrative genre according to the utterers' definition and their use of it. Thus, the article shows the ways by means of which through the performance of speech play in informal contexts, the narrators, Argentine born children of Jewish immigrants, establish axes of continuity and discontinuity with different pasts: one experienced by the speakers themselves or their ancestors, another one pertaining to Jewish life in Eastern Europe, and one originated in sacred texts.

A quarter of a century ago, institutions of the Argentine Jewish community began to organize celebrations pertaining to the Jewish ritual festival calendar in squares and streets of the city of Buenos Aires. Thus, community organizations moved into the public space celebrations previously reserved to the community, family and institutional spheres. They consequently shaped a new channel for the representation of "Jewishness" from the linking of different realms: that of the recreation of religious practices, the space of the exaltation of diversity in public areas which is part of the contemporary cultural policies of the City government, and the entertainment business. In order to examine the characteristics of such movement and the consequences of this process of public staging for the configuration of a Jewish Argentine identity, in this article I focus on a particular realization of these festivals, a celebration of Rosh Hashana which took place in 2011. This essay focuses on the struggle among conflicting language ideologies that occurs in immigrant communities. Specifically, it analyzes verbal art performed in Spanish and Yiddish among second-generation Argentine Jews, the offspring of Eastern European Jews who emigrated to Argentina in the 1920s and 1930s. Despite the prevalence of Spanish in daily communication and the use of Hebrew as an emblematic language, Yiddish is still used in certain poetic speech forms. This analysis addresses the effects of contradictory language ideologies—hegemonic and otherwise—on the performance of verbal art and on performers' reflections about their speech forms. The purpose of this article is to present the opinions of the Argentine intellectual, Leopoldo Lugones, regarding the Jews and the reasons for his seemingly contradictory attitudes towards them that mirror both the general precariousness of Jewish existence in Argentina and the contradictions of Argentine nationalism. Moreover, these writings also reveal other related aspects of Lugones' thought and provide a partial overview of Argentine nationalistic thought from the beginning of the twentieth century to the late 1930s, thereby offering insights into the nature and evolution of Argentine nationalism in reaction to Jews and other immigrant groups. The article focuses on the institutions of the Argentine Jews. More than 140 Jewish communities are present in Argentina. Philanthropy of Baron Maurice de Hirsch of the Jewish Colonization Association was responsible for bringing Ashkenazic Jews to Argentina between 1889 and 1914. In 1860, the first synagogue was formed including groups of English, French and German Jews. The Sephardic immigration was smaller as compared to that of Ashkenazic. The smallest share for the same is constituted by the Palestine Jews.
