There has been a paucity of literature discussing how to address consent procedures as part of ethics, practitioner development, and best practice in applied sport psychology. Several researchers have addressed ethical challenges (e.g., out-of-session contact, overidentification, time, and space). However, none have substantially considered the sport-specific issues related to consent, which sits at the heart of best practice. The scarcity of discussing consent is limiting sport psychology's potential to establish itself as a more recognized profession. This article highlights some contextual issues that challenge the idea and efficacy of informed consent. It proposes adapting consent procedures in the collaboration between sport psychology practitioners and clients to better address the current contextual challenges in applied sport psychology. In doing so, the current paper introduces Empowered Consent, which is specifically designed to empower athletes and address challenges related to choosing interventions, contractual obligations, visibility in the environment, and staff trying to gain insights into confidential information. Key governing bodies (e.g., Association for Applied Sport Psychology) recognize that graduate programs must prepare multiculturally competent practitioners. Students and recent graduates of sport psychology master's degree programs (N = 107, Mage = 26.32, SD = 5.19) reported moderate levels of feeling safe, valued, and comfortable within their program; low to moderate levels of multicultural training integration; and low to moderate satisfaction with their multicultural training. Students of Color (n = 42) compared to White students (n = 63) reported less satisfaction with their multicultural training; felt less safe, comfortable, and valued; and perceived less multicultural integration. Furthermore, perceptions of multicultural training integration and of feeling safe, comfortable, and valued were significantly related to satisfaction with their multicultural training. Training programs are advised to improve integration of multicultural training, invest in program climate to help students feel safe and valued, and ensure continuing education of faculty members. The current study explored how applied sport psychology practitioners adopting client-led stances described two of their athlete interactions. Applied sport psychology practitioners (8 female and 12 male, mean age = 33.76 years, SD = 4.70), describing themselves as client-led practitioners, discussed two athlete consultancies during open-ended interviews. Data analysis involved examining the narrative structure of practitioners' stories and identifying the features of client-led service delivery present in the accounts. The participants' stories reflected a collaborative empiricism narrative in which they collaborated with athletes to resolve client issues. The stories contained features of client-led person-centered therapy and the use of practitioner-led techniques and interventions. The results point to applied implications such as providing accounts of service delivery on which practitioners can reflect as they consider the ways they wish to help clients. This study examined how psychologists working in men's English football academies evaluate their working context when choosing a professional practice framework for guiding applied psychology provisions. Sixteen psychologists—six women and 10 men—participated in two semistructured interviews. A stepwise inductive–deductive approach in the analysis was used. The authors found that 13 of the psychologists adopted humanistic psychology as their guiding framework. In exploring the reasoning, three categories were developed: (a) motives for choosing a humanistic approach, (b) challenges when applying a humanistic approach, and (c) perpetuating stigma and restrictive assumptions regarding sport psychology. The study shows that humanistic psychology might be an effective approach to countering some dehumanizing features in the current English academy context (e.g., an overreliance on metrics). However, the Premier League, the Football Association, and other governing football organizations should notice the drawbacks of how psychologists sometimes must collude with the current system to establish psychology in the academy before later expanding provisions. The presented study evaluates the evidence base underpinning the use of the Mindfulness–Acceptance–Commitment approach (MAC) in applied sport psychology. To assess the effectiveness of the MAC protocol on improving mindfulness and psychological flexibility, and on enhancing sport performance and well-being among athletes, we used Robust Bayesian Meta-Analysis with Publication Selection Model-Averaging (RoBMAPSMA). In total, there were eleven controlled trials included in the meta-analysis. Results of the RoBMAPSMA show: a moderate model-averaged effect size estimate for developing mindfulness with strong evidence (g = 0.64, 95% CI 0.00–0.91, BFes = 25.35); a small model-averaged effect size estimate for experiential acceptance with anecdotal evidence (g = 0.36, 95% CI 0.00–0.92, BFes = 2.32); and a small model-averaged effect size estimate for improving sport performance with moderate evidence (g = 0.37, 95% CI 0.00–0.79, BFes = 3.27). Only one study assessed the effectiveness of the MAC protocol on well-being and averaged effect sizes ranged from 0.01 to 0.82. Based on the results of the meta-analysis, the Mindfulness–Acceptance–Commitment protocol can be effective in improving mindfulness. In addition, results suggest that the MAC protocol might be effective in improving sport performance. Currently available trials, however, do not provide sufficient evidence supporting the MAC protocol's effectiveness in developing psychological flexibility, experiential acceptance, and promoting well-being among athletes. As a discipline with an expansive and intricate landscape, the field of judgment and decision-making (JDM) has evolved significantly since the beginning of the 2020s. The extensive and intricate nature of this field might pose challenges for scholars and researchers in designing course content and curricula as well as in defining research boundaries. Several techniques from a bibliometric study, such as co-word analysis and co-citation analysis, can provide insights into the scopes and directions of the field. Previous bibliometric studies on the psychology of JDM have primarily analyzed published documents restricted either by content areas or by journal outlets. The present study attempts to analyze a collection of published documents with broad search terms (i.e., "judgment*" or "decision mak*") within the purview of the psychology subject area, separately by years of publication (from 2020 to 2022) using the bibliometrix package in the R environment. The most relevant journals and the most frequent keywords have suggested established areas of study, uncovering common themes, patterns, and trends. Beyond that, two science mapping techniques (i.e., keyword co-occurrence network and reference co-citation network) revealed 12 prominent themes that cut across the three-year period. These themes, alongside other intellectually stimulating issues, were discussed based on a comparison with outstanding book chapters and reviews. There has been a noticeable decline in life satisfaction among adolescents globally in recent years. The present study explored the immediate and long-term effects of a positive psychology intervention course, Study with Strength, on the well-being of students at general upper secondary school in Finland during the pandemic. Based on a partly randomized wait-list control group design, the study included a final sample of 350 students from 10 schools. Self-report measures were used to assess both immediate between-group effects and long-term within-group effects of the intervention on student well-and ill-being. A combination of methods from positive psychology and cognitive therapy were applied, and the course was administered by the participating schools' own teachers and student-welfare personnel. The findings show that the Study with Strength intervention course enhanced the students' experiences of positive practices at school, happiness and of positive emotions. However, the effect sizes were small. The intervention did not have any immediate effects on all aspects of well-being, negative emotions, depression, or study-related burnout. The significant, positive changes in students' well-being in the analysis of long-term effects must be interpreted with caution. The students also reported a positive effect of the intervention both on their personal lives and in their studies. Overall, it appears that the intervention had a small but positive impact, nudging students towards enhanced well-being. Motor and nonmotor symptoms occur in early Parkinson's disease (PD), or even in the prodromal stage. Many of these symptoms can be addressed by allied health therapies, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and psychological therapies. However, referrals to these services early in the disease are low. We provide a review summarizing the efficacy of proactive allied health interventions on motor and nonmotor symptoms and daily function in prodromal and early disease. We also highlight areas for additional research and provide recommendations to improve care for individuals with early PD within each discipline. We recognize the overlapping roles of the allied health disciplines and support integrated or transdisciplinary care beginning soon after diagnosis to help stem the tide in the progression of PD symptoms and disability. Plain Language Summary: Many people with Parkinson's disease start having symptoms years before their diagnosis. These symptoms can affect movement, communication, mood, work, and other aspects of daily life. Allied health therapies can be used soon after diagnosis, or even when diagnosis is suspected, to address these challenges proactively. The impact of individual identities on university staff's experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic has been profound. We conducted a survey of 118 staff members at one Scottish university to explore how their identities were impacting on their experiences. Results from qualitative content analysis showed that existing inequalities had been exacerbated by the pandemic. The level of support received from line managers and colleagues had a direct effect on staff's self-efficacy and wellbeing. Furthermore, feelings of disconnection from the university community further isolated staff, causing further negative impacts on their wellbeing. These findings suggest that 'one-size fits all' approaches to staff wellbeing are unlikely to be effective, and that policies should take into account individual situations, resources, and challenges. Policies should focus on promoting staff autonomy and self-efficacy, and should be flexible enough to consider the unique needs of each individual. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The exploration of higher education (HE) teachers' approaches to teaching has mainly been done using quantitative instruments which have been criticised for being too narrow in examining the dimensions of teaching. Higher education approaches to teaching (HEAT) inventory is a recently developed instrument to capture the dimensions of HE teaching more broadly. Moreover, teacher self-efficacy has been shown to be an important element influencing approaches to teaching, but still, the research on it has been scarce. The aims of the study are thus (1) to validate the HEAT inventory and (2) to explore what kind of individual teaching profiles can be identified among higher education teachers and their relation to teachers' self-efficacy. The results showed that HEAT is a valid instrument to measure various dimensions of approaches to teaching and that several profiles of approaches to teaching can emerge among HE teachers. Using the tenets of learned helplessness theory, we propose and test a model suggesting how the perception of supervisor narcissism impacts acquiescent silence and employee creativity. We further suggest acquiescent silence as a mediator, and law and code ethical climate as a moderator, in the link between supervisor narcissism and creativity. We found good support for the proposed hypotheses using multi‐wave data collected from 258 employees of service‐oriented companies in North America. Results show that supervisor narcissism prompts employees to exhibit acquiescent silence, which also mediates the link between supervisor narcissism and employee creativity. The law and code ethical climate moderates the effect of supervisor narcissism on acquiescent silence and that of silence on creativity. Therefore, this study identifies a key factor, acquiescent silence, through which supervisor narcissism impedes employee creativity, and it also reveals how this process might be buffered by the law and code ethical climate. Research on whether interviewees can improve their interview ratings through impression management (IM) relative to an honest condition has focused on highly structured interviews whereas traditional interviews have received little attention. Thus, this study aimed to determine how prone traditional compared to highly structured interviews are to effects of IM. Therefore, we conducted simulated selection interviews using a 2 × 2 within‐subjects design. All participants went through a condition in which they were asked to present themselves as honestly as possible and a condition in which they were instructed to act like an applicant. Additionally, each interview contained eight traditional and eight structured questions. The differences in the usage of self‐reported honest and deceptive IM between the honest and applicant conditions were comparable for both interview types. Furthermore, interview ratings were better in the applicant condition compared to the honest condition, and importantly, this improvement was larger for the traditional interview part compared to the structured interview part. Even though the larger performance improvement was not reflected in self‐reported honest and deceptive IM, our results suggest that it is easier for applicants to intentionally improve their performance ratings in traditional interviews. The purpose of this study was to develop, implement, and evaluate a support program for parents of male youth academy footballers. Drawing on an action research methodology, underpinned by an interpretivist philosophical approach, this study comprised two action research cycles conducted over a 3-year period. The first action research cycle was the development, delivery, and evaluation of a six-session parent support program, along with three cultural changes. Following evaluation and reflection, the parent support program was modified to comprise a "Being a Football Parent" booklet, a 90-minute support session, and three further cultural changes. Overall, the results highlight the benefits of providing support to parents within youth academy football through a variety of modes and particularly targeting actions at the culture in which parents are situated. This study also demonstrates the value of using action research and having a practitioner-researcher embedded within organizations to facilitate such change. However, there were several challenges when implementing this parent support program and frustrations when creating change within the culture. Guidance for future parent support programs and further research are detailed. Lay summary: Two parent-support programs, comprising parent workshops and/or booklet alongside culture changes, were implemented and evaluated within a youth football academy. The program of support was positively received by parents and seen as beneficial. However, several challenges were encountered, particularly with implementing the cultural changes. Parent support programs will be enhanced through providing parents with information alongside targeted cultural changes. Creating an environment that encourages parents to support each other enhances the effectiveness of workshops. Concept analysis is a useful qualitative research method for psychologists aiming to define, clarify or critique concept meaning and use in theory, practice or research. This article explains Reformative Concept Analysis (RCA), a novel method derived from nursing and political science concept analysis approaches, and reformed for applied psychology research. First, the role of concepts as epistemological vessels in psychological theory and practice is described. Some problems with concept use in clinical practice and research are highlighted, to demonstrate why critical analytic methods to improve concept definition and utility are needed. Then, overviews of some existing concept analysis methods are provided, with summaries of their strengths and limitations from an applied psychology perspective. The importance of comparing and combining meaning frameworks constructed from qualitative narratives and literature review is highlighted. Performance profiling is a widely used assessment and monitoring method within the field of sport psychology. As a client-centered tool, it helps athletes, coaches, and practitioners identify the characteristics perceived necessary for successful performance. However, traditional methods of performance profiling are not always appropriate for younger athletes or for application outside of an office or classroom. In line with recommendations from previous research, this article presents the experiences of a trainee sport and exercise psychologist during the development and implementation of a novel, team performance profiling activity. The activity was introduced in a workshop delivered to a youth soccer team to determine the content of three additional workshops. During the activity, the soccer players collaborated to identify the best soccer player in the world (i.e., Lionel Messi) and the behaviors, feelings, and thoughts that enabled him to be successful. Then, as a team, they rated their abilities with regards to the identified behaviors, feelings, and thoughts on a scale of 1 to 5 in relation to Lionel Messi, to identify their potential strengths and areas for improvement. Objective. The study focuses how to explore the potential opportunities and benefits of using chatbots in applied psychology. To determine the best ways to integrate chatbots into existing psychological services and programmes. To analyse and review the literature to identify common trends and findings on the use of chatbots in psychological support. Systematising research in this area would help to understand the potential of chatbots, identify optimal strategies for their use and identify areas for further research into this technology. Methodology. The systems thinking is the basis for the research. The main theoretical methods of research: analysis, synthesis, deduction. This article is a review of the history of the development of chatbots in applied psychology. It includes studies investigating the use of chatbots to promote psychological health. Results. Research results promise relatively the practicality and safety of chatbots using to promote psychological health. But using them as a part of applied psychology should be done with extreme caution. These technologies can be termed experimental. Research in this area is insufficient, and it is mainly of a pilot nature. Conclusion. Topics such as the effectiveness and especially the safety of chatbots in applied psychology should be an integral part of future basic psychology research programmes.

In this paper, we argue that the recent debates andproclaimed crises in psychology are partly due to a reflection deficit and the reductionist understanding of psychology as exclusively a science. For this reason, we introduce Psychological Humanities as a novel interdisciplinary approach that defines psychology as its object of investigation and opens a field of reflection. Although the study of psychological topics with an orientation toward the humanities is not new, either within or outside of psychology, we argue for the introduction of the collective term Psychological Humanities for four reasons: (1) the definition of Psychological Humanities does more justice to central psychological subject areas such as subjectivity, (2) it serves as a common term of interconnectedness and visibility, (3) it resonates with new reflective fields in related disciplines, such as the medical humanities, and (4) it is more consistent with intersubjective practice in applied psychology. In what follows, we present our approach to Psychological Humanities, developed at the University of Lübeck. Our model differentiates between two fundamental views: a view from the outside on the discipline of psychology and its contexts (e.g., through history, cultural studies, and ethics) and a view from the inside on psychology (e.g., through theoretical psychology, critical psychologies, or epistemology of psychology).

Globalization has highlighted that authoritarian leadership is prevalent in both Eastern and Western organizations. Although there is a growing body of literature that focuses on the effect of authoritarian leadership, an important, but missing, perspective concerns the strategies employees use to deal with authoritarian leaders and the subsequent outcomes. Drawing on impression management theory, this study develops a moderated mediation model to examine the differential effects of authoritarian leadership on employee outcomes. To examine the proposed hypotheses, we conducted a scenario-based experiment (364 full-time employees) and a time-lagged multi-source field survey (464 employees matched with 76 supervisors). The results indicate that Hewlin's (Journal of Applied Psychology, 94(3), 727–741, 2009) façade of conformity construct is a specific impression management strategy adopted by employees when working with authoritarian leaders. Through triggering employees' façades of conformity, authoritarian leadership has a positive indirect effect on employee task performance, but a negative indirect effect on employee workplace well-being. These indirect relationships are more salient when authoritarian leaders have high social status. This study not only contributes to authoritarian leadership literature by illustrating its double-edged effects and unveiling its underlying mechanisms but also offers constructive guidance to practitioners. Scholars have long been intrigued by the relationship between intrateam conflict and team creativity, though findings to date have been mixed. Recent research suggests that traditional conceptualizations of intrateam conflict as a property that is shared uniformly by team members (e.g., averaging members' overall conflict perceptions), rather than a more nuanced phenomenon between individual members with unique network positions, have limited our understanding of its influences. These advances, however, have yet to be substantively applied to the intrateam conflict‐creativity literature. Accordingly, we integrate network views of conflict with creativity theory and group motivated processing models to explore how task and relationship conflicts involving critical members' (i.e., members central to a team's workflow network) influence team creative functioning beyond overall conflict perceptions. We theorize that critical member task conflict is positively associated with team creativity by way of team reflexivity, and this positive indirect effect is accentuated by team shared goals. Further, we posit that critical member relationship conflict is negatively associated with team creativity by way of reduced team cohesion, though this effect is mitigated by critical member emotional intelligence. This study examines the relationship between food safety risk perception (FSRP) and social similarity, utilizing eye-tracking to uncover how consumers process information on food labels. Central to our inquiry is that perceived similarity influences how individuals assess and react to food safety risks. Our research posits that individuals who see a high degree of similarity with others in their social circles are more attentive to food safety risks. We conducted two food label experiments, one focusing on safety labels and the other on nutritional information. Findings indicate that heightened perceptions of social similarity (prototype perception and social distance) enhance the impact of food labels (safety labels and nutritional information) on food safety risk assessments (decision-making process and product choice), manifesting in increased visual attention to these labels. This revelation underscores the significance of social factors in shaping food safety behaviors and offers a new perspective for designing more effective food safety communication. The ways in which a coach conceptualises the needs of a client is central to the way the coaching journey unfolds. In other forms of applied psychology interventions are designed and delivered through the aid of a formulation which is widely recognised as a core competence for professional psychologists. Formulation can be understood as a unique form of storytelling and is a process through which a coach and client make sense of the client's aims and needs, identify the factors of influence, and use this conceptualisation to design a way forward. Although historically, the relevance of formulation to coaching has been underexplored, it is now gaining recognition as a distinct capability and one which may have particular value in contexts of complexity – the terrain that many coaches increasingly inhabit. Exploring formulation from the perspective of different disciplines, including the performing arts, as well as recent and current work within coaching, this article, based on a keynote presentation for the Division of Coaching Psychology's annual conference in June 2023, considers how embedding formulation in our coaching might enable us to enhance our practice, co-construct more effective stories about our clients' needs and contribute in new and ever more creative ways to meet the needs of our clients in a rapidly changing world. Scholarship on seeking behaviors, which refer to deliberate attempts to obtain information or assistance from others, has emerged in multiple silos (e.g., feedback-seeking, information-seeking, help-seeking, and advice-seeking). Furthering recent synthesis attempts, we draw on reinforcement sensitivity theory (RST) to generate novel predictions concerning the causes of explicit and implicit seeking behaviors and clarify the inconsistencies between theoretical predictions and empirical findings noted in past reviews. We test our arguments through a meta-analysis of 393 samples drawn from management and applied psychology research. In doing so, we uncover nuances in the associations between seeking behaviors and work outcomes (e.g., in-role performance and creativity). We discuss how our theorizing and findings challenge, refine, and extend the existing knowledge concerning seeking behaviors at work, provide methodological and practical recommendations, and identify directions for future research. The article discusses the issue of common-method bias (CMB) in organizational behavior (OB) and management-related journals. The author argues that CMB is overused by reviewers and editors as a reason to reject papers, and presents empirical, theoretical, and practical evidence to support this argument. The author suggests that concerns about CMB are often unnecessary and that single-source and single-wave data can still provide valuable insights. The article also addresses the practical implications of requiring multi-phase studies to avoid CMB, such as the potential for fake data and difficulties in surveying certain populations. This systematic review explores the reflective accounts of applied sport psychology practitioners. The aim of this review was to synthesise the reflective accounts of applied sport psychology practitioners and highlight common themes that provide focus to their reflective practice. The insight into current progress on reflective content in applied sport psychology provides a foundation to build on as we continue to understand this topic. Following a systematic search of the literature, a total of 73 studies were included within the review, which were analysed using thematic content analysis. Analysis of the reflective accounts resulted in the creation of nine higher-order themes: Process and Purpose of Reflective Practice; Ethical Practice; Supporting Person and Performer; Practitioner Individuation; Relationships with Clients; Cultural Awareness; Competence-Related Angst; Support of Practitioner Development; and Evaluating Practitioner Effectiveness. The review includes recommendations for future research, such as the use of narrative analysis to provide further insight into applied practitioners' experiences. We also provide practical implications, which are tailored to match the specific demands of practitioners at different stages of development and include increased engagement in critical reflection for trainee practitioners and engaging with 'critical friends' to facilitate the process of meta-reflection for newly qualified practitioners. CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) research has thrived recently. Yet, while more and more is learnt about the impact of CLIL on motivation, proficiency, and content learning, few investigations examine how CLIL influences students of different socio-economic status (SES) and why. The recent large-scale English Impact study conducted in the Madrid region showed that CLIL has a potential to limit the influence of SES on students' language learning motivation and proficiency. Yet being solely quantitative, it did not probe into the reasons behind such a result. This mixed-methods study aims to uncover such reasons. 138 teachers from different schools in the Madrid region filled in the TALIS questionnaire (OECD 2013. Whereas no significant differences between teachers from CLIL and non-CLIL schools were identified through the questionnaire, the interviews revealed that teachers from bilingual schools adapted their teaching methodology to best suit their students' needs, and were more willing to take risks than their counterparts in non-bilingual schools. Objective: Discuss the human factors relevance of attention control (AC), a domain-general ability to regulate information processing functions in the service of goal-directed behavior. Background: Working memory (WM) measures appear as predictors in various applied psychology studies. However, measures of WM reflect a mixture of memory storage and controlled attention making it difficult to interpret the meaning of significant WM-task relations for human factors. In light of new research, complex task performance may be better predicted or explained with new measures of attention control rather than WM. Method: We briefly review the topic of individual differences in abilities in Human Factors. Next, we focus on WM, how it is measured, and what can be inferred from significant WM-task relations. Results: The theoretical underpinnings of attention control as a high-level factor that affects complex thought and behavior make it useful in human factors, which often study performance in complex and dynamic task environments. To facilitate research on attention control in applied settings, we discuss a validated measure of attention control that predicts more variance in complex task performance than WM. In contrast to existing measures of WM or AC, our measures of attention control only require 3 minutes each (10 minutes total) and may be less culture-bound making them suitable for use in applied settings. Conclusion: Explaining or predicting task performance relations with attention control rather than WM may have dramatically different implications for designing more specific, equitable task interfaces, or training. Application: A highly efficient ability predictor can help researchers and practitioners better understand task requirements for human factors interventions or performance prediction. The purpose of the current study was to explore evidence-informed decisions involved in designing psychological interventions for performance enhancement. Employing a constructivist grounded theory methodology, 10 experienced and 10 early career sport psychology practitioners participated in semi-structured interviews. All participants gained their qualified status through the British Psychological Society and were registered practitioner psychologists with the Health and Care Professions Council within the UK. Accordingly, results are reflective of the participants' training and practice experiences. Four key categories of decision-making processes were constructed: gathering information about the athlete, using research evidence, drawing on experience and tacit knowledge, and integration. Our findings demonstrated the interactions between research-based and practice-based knowledge when designing interventions that suit the needs of the athlete, work pragmatically within the applied context, and have the desired effect on the intervention goal. Our findings provide a better understanding of the interactions and processes used by sport psychology practitioners in applied practice. Such an understanding may inform the construction of evidence-informed interventions that lead to better performance outcomes. We review social-psychological evidence for a theoretically integrative and dynamic model of intergroup conflict escalation within democratic societies. Viewing individuals as social regulators who protect their social embeddedness (e.g., in their group or in society), the intergroup value protection model (IVPM) integrates key insights and concepts from moral and group psychology (e.g., group identification, outrage, moralization, protest) into a functional intergroup value protection process. The model assumes that social regulators are continuously looking for information diagnostic of the outgroup's intentions to terminate the relationship with the ingroup, and that their specific cognitive interpretations of an outgroup's action (i.e., as a violation of ingroup or shared values) trigger this process. The visible value-protective responses of one group can trigger the other group's value-protective responses, thus dynamically increasing chances of conflict escalation. We discuss scientific implications of integrating moral and group psychology and practical challenges for managing intergroup conflict within democratic societies. The 2021 Capitol Hill attack exemplifies a major "trigger event" for different groups to protect their values within a democratic society. Which specific perceptions generate such a triggering event, which value-protective responses does it trigger, and do such responses escalate intergroup conflict? We offer the intergroup value protection model to analyze the moral and group psychology of intergroup conflict escalation in democratic societies. It predicts that when group members cognitively interpret another group's actions as violating ingroup or shared values, this triggers the intergroup value protection process (e.g., increased ingroup identification, outrage, moralization, social protest). When such value-protective responses are visible to the outgroup, this can in turn constitute a trigger event for them to protect their values, thus increasing chances of intergroup conflict escalation. We discuss scientific implications and practical challenges for managing intergroup value conflict in democratic societies, including fears of societal breakdown and scope for social change. Vittorio Benussi (1878–1927) is known for numerous studies on optical illusions, visual and haptic perception, spatial and time perception. In Padova, he had a brilliant student who carefully worked on the topic of how people estimate numerosity, Silvia De Marchi (1897–1936). Her writings have never been translated into English before. Here we comment on her work and life, characterized also by the challenges faced by women in academia. The studies on perception of numerosity from her thesis were published as an article in 1929. We provide a translation from Italian, a redrawing of its 23 illustrations and of the graphs. Sport psychology is the scientific study and application of psychological principles to enhance performance and well-being in sport, exercise, and physical activity. It has numerous applications to sports medicine, as psychological factors are associatedwith sport injury risk, recovery, successful return to play, and overall health. This article addresses how sport psychology is important to sports medicine and what applied sport psychologists do. We discuss several psychological principles and practices relevant to individual performance andwell-being, including goal setting, communication, arousal and performance, imagery/mental rehearsal, attention management, managing psychological distress, and behavioral health. This article explores the impact of norms and beliefs on sleep behavior and the potential for using this information to promote healthy sleep patterns. The study focuses on descriptive and injunctive norms, which involve perceptions of actual behavior and socially approved behavior, respectively. Through an online experiment, researchers found that learning about others' adherence to the injunctive norm can increase individuals' intentions to improve their sleep habits. Participants who perceived a larger gap between the injunctive norm and actual behavior were more likely to subscribe to a sleep hygiene newsletter. Background: College students have increasing mental health needs; however, there has not been a related increase in services available. Mental health apps offer an avenue to support access to student mental healthcare. Objective: This study incorporated an indirect service-learning project involving evaluating and recommending mental health apps to the college counseling center into an undergraduate clinical psychology course in order to (1) increase student self-efficacy and depth of learning, and (2) increase evidence-based mental health app usage on a college campus. Method: The project was implemented during an online, synchronous 3-week course and 15 students participated in the study. Student self-report of self-efficacy was measured pre- and post-course and quantitative and qualitative reflections on the project were gathered post-course. Results: Student self-efficacy increased from pre- to post-course. Additionally, students reported that the project met pedagogical objectives by engaging students, aligning with course content, and addressing APA learning goals. Conclusion: The project holds promise as a means to improve student self-efficacy and enhance clinical psychology learning, while simultaneously disseminating evidence-based digital mental tools on college campuses. The modern apprenticeship system is an essential strategy for human resources development in China. It is the institutional carrier for training high-level technical and skilled talents. Based on the perspective of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), a survey of 495 first-year college students' willingness and behavior to participate in modern apprenticeship in N vocational college in Jiangsu Province found that perceived benefits, prescriptive norms, exemplary norms, external conditions, and selfefficacy have significant positive effects on college students' willingness to participate in modern apprenticeship. Behavioral willingness and external conditions have a significant positive impact on college students' participation in modern apprenticeship. Situational factors have a significant positive moderating effect on college students' willingness and behavior to participate in modern apprenticeship. For this reason, the article proposes the following actions to push on modern apprenticeship. We should establish a high-quality employment security mechanism to enhance the inherent attraction of modern apprenticeship, attach importance to career planning education to improve students' self-cognition, pay attention to career cognition education to enhance students' career development awareness, improve the modern apprenticeship "1+X" certificate system to enhance college students' sense of academic achievement. OBJECTIVE: To explore the association between phubbing behavior, emotional intelligence, and psychological distress in youth and the predicting role of phubbing and emotional intelligence for determining psychological distress in youth. STUDY DESIGN: Correlational research PLACE AND DURATION OF STUDY: The research was done from March 2022 to February 2023 at the Department of Applied Psychology, University of Management and Technology, Lahore. METHOD: The participants were 200 university students between the ages of 18 and 26 (Mean=21.36; SD =1.94) were selected from various public and private sector universities in Lahore using convenience sampling technique. The Phubbing Scale, Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale, and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale-DASS 21 along with self-designed demographic questionnaire were applied for data collection. RESULTS: A positive relationship between phubbing and psychological distress in young adults was seen. Phubbing was an important predictor of mental distress in young adults, however emotional intelligence did not predict it. Additionally, there were no remarkable gender differences noted in phubbing, emotional intelligence, and psychological distress. CONCLUSION: The study emphasizes the influence of phubbing as well as of emotional intelligence on the psychological distress in youth and these findings may assist in interventions to reduce phubbing and improve emotional intelligence as possible solutions to reduce psychological distress.
