The Bengal Basin is a well‐known foreland basin that archives the tectonic evolution of the Himalayan and Indo‐Burman Ranges (IBR). The Dupi Tila Formation is the youngest among the stratigraphic successions of the Bengal Basin, which witnessed the last phase of the Himalayan uplift. However, there is still controversy regarding sediment provenances since the Himalayan and IBR are in the late Neogene exhumation stage. In this study, the petrographical and geochemical compositions of the Dupi Tila sandstones from the Lalmai Anticline of the Bengal Basin are examined to infer the source rocks, tectonic settings, palaeoclimate and weathering intensity in provenance areas. The detrital modes and geochemical discriminations, as well as Chondrite‐normalized rare earth elements patterns with enrichment in light rare earth elements and nearly flat heavy rare earth elements and negative Eu anomalies (average Eu/Eu* = 0.77) indicate dominantly felsic source rocks. The geochemical data also suggest that these source rocks in provenance areas were influenced by weak to moderate chemical weathering (chemical index of alteration: 65.64–75.62) and multiple recycling under warm and humid to semi‐humid climatic conditions. The detrital zircon ages show three dominant peaks at ca. 100, 500 and 1000 Ma with minor 1700 Ma. The amount of young zircon grains (<120 Ma) is noticeably higher (~18%) in this Lalmai outcrop compared to the Dupi Tila samples from the Sylhet Trough and Chittagong‐Tripura Fold Belt. Results from integrated zircon geochronology and geochemistry indicate that the detritus are likely derived from a recycled orogen provenance related mainly to active continental margin setting with subordinate influence from passive setting. Therefore, the regionally extensive Himalayan Orogen appears to be the primary sediment source, with additional mixing from the IBR and recycled sediments originating from the Gangdese batholith of the Trans‐Himalaya. The Paleo-Asian Ocean and Tethyan Ocean were ancient oceans that formed during different time periods. The Central Asian Orogenic Belt and Tethyan Tectonic domains are two large tectonic regions associated with the evolution and closure of these oceans. The editorial highlights various studies on the tectonic and magmatic evolution of these domains, including investigations into volcanic regions, granitoids, tectonic evolution, and oil reservoirs. The evolution and closure timing of the Paleo-Asian Ocean are controversial in the Eastern Tianshan orogen, southern Altaids. The Dananhu arc of the Eastern Tianshan was involved in the long-lived evolution and terminal tectonic events during the formation of the Altaids, and its magmatic rocks are the faithful recorder. To constrain the subduction history of the Paleo-Asian Ocean, we review the tectonic of the Dananhu arc, by summarizing the geochemical and geochronological data of granites and volcanic rocks and mineral deposits, which will shed light on the accretionary history, closure of the Paleo-Asian Ocean, and the continental growth in Altaids. Zircon U-Pb ages of the granitic rocks across the middle of the Dannanhu arc range from 453 Ma to 227 Ma and demonstrate overall southward younging through four main areas: the Kalatage belt (ca. 453–299 Ma), the Keizer belt (ca. 401–268 Ma), the Tuwu belt (360–302 Ma), and the Kanguer subduction complex (ca. 288–227 Ma). These granitic rocks are calc-alkaline arc-related and adakitic granites that are enriched in Si and K. They increase in Th/Yb and decrease in Cr and Ce/Pb southwards over time. The consistent geochemical variations indicate progressive maturity of the arc crust. Their whole-rock εNd(t) and zircon εHf(t) values coordinated with the progressive change in the crustal thickness estimated by the granites indicate a multi-phase switching of subduction. The Ordovician to Permian granitic rocks in the arc have stable high whole-rock εNd(t) values (ca. +5 – +10), and zircon εHf(t) values (ca. +7-+16), which significantly shifted to +2 – +4 and +4 – +12 during ca. 243–227 Ma. These changing relations accompanied a sudden crustal thickening, suggesting that continental crustal material was involved in the petrogenesis of these rocks during the convergence among the Dananhu arc, the Harlik and the Yamansu-central Tianshan continental arc. The Almogholagh Intrusive Complex (AIC) in the central part of the Sanandaj-Sirjan zone (C-SaSZ) includes gabbros to granites. Zircon U-Pb dating of mafic, intermediate, and felsic intrusions yield age of 146 to 141 Ma (Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous). Bulk chemistry shows a wide range for SiO2 (46.8 to 73.3 wt.%), MgO (0.08 to 8.95 wt.%), and Fe2O3(T) (0.47 to 9.25 wt.%) and also alkali elements ranging from 3.59 to 10.12 wt.%. These rocks are characterized by a high content of large-ion lithophile elements (LILEs; e.g. Rb, U, Th, and K) and LREEs with weak Nb and Ta negative anomalies, showing many similarities to an extensional setting. The 176Hf/177Hf ratios vary from 0.282802 to 0.282985 with positive εHf(t) values from + 1.67 to +10.74 (avg: 7.85). Trace-element and isotope ratios modelling indicate that the AIC mafic-intermediate rocks were generated by partial melting of spinel lherzolite and then underwent considerable crustal contamination. The present work in combination with previous data confirm an extensional tectonic regime for the northern part of the C-SaSZ during the Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous. Magmatic differentiation with crustal contamination played a fundamental role in the wide compositional range from mafic to felsic types that formed the AIC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
