Abstract

We present a new generation of a scanning MicroSQUID microscope operating in an inverted dilution refrigerator. The MicroSQUIDs have a size of 1.21$ \ \mu$m\textsuperscript{2} and a magnetic flux sensitivity of 120 $\mu\Phi_{0} / \sqrt{\textrm{Hz}}$ and thus a field sensitivity of %$550^{-6} \ \Phi_{0} / \sqrt{\textrm{Hz}}$ 550$ \ \mu \textrm{G}/ \sqrt{\textrm{Hz}}$. The scan range at low temperatures is about 80 $\mu$m and a coarse displacement of 5 mm in x and y direction has been implemented. The MicroSQUID-to-sample distance is regulated using a tuning fork based force detection. A MicroSQUID-to-sample distance of 420 nm has been obtained. The reliable knowledge of this distance is necessary to obtain a trustworthy estimate of the absolute value of the superconducting penetration depth. An outlook will be given on the ongoing direction of development.

Abstract

International audience; The effect of selenium substitution by sulphur on the structural and physical properties of antiferromagnetic TlFe1.6+δSe2 has been investigated via neutron, x-ray and electron diffraction, and transport measurements. The 5 sqrt(a)× 5sqrt(a)×c super-cell related to the iron vacancy ordering found in the pure TlFe1.6Se2 selenide is also present in the S-doped TlFe1.6+δ(Se1−xSx)2 compounds. Neutron scattering experiments show the occurrence of the same long range magnetic ordering in the whole series i.e. the 'block checkerboard' antiferromagnetic structure. In particular, this is the first detailed study where the crystal structure and the 5 a× 5 a antiferromagnetic structure is characterized by neutron powder diffraction for the pure TlFe1.6+δS2 sulphide over a large temperature range. We demonstrate the strong correlation between occupancies of the crystallographic iron sites, the level of iron vacancy ordering and the occurrence of block antiferromagnetism in the sulphur series. Introducing S into the Se sites also increases the Fe content in TlFe1.6+δ(Se1−xSx)2 which in turn leads to the disappearance of the Fe vacancy ordering at x = 0.5 ± 0.15. However, by reducing the nominal Fe content, the same 5 a× 5 a×c vacancy ordering and antiferromagnetic order can be recovered also in the pure TlFe1.6+δS2 sulphide with a simultaneous reduction in the Néel temperature from 435 K in the selenide TlFe1.75Se2 to 330 K in the sulphide TlFe1.5S2. The magnetic moment remains high at low temperature throughout the full substitution range, which contributes to the absence of superconductivity in these compounds.

Abstract

We determine the pressure phase diagram of the 1111 compounds CaFeAsF and SrFeAsF, up to 20 GPa and down to 4 K by electrical resistivity measurements and the change of structure up to 40 GPa at room temperature. The antiferromagnetic transition temperature, as determined by the derivative peak, shows a minimum at ~5 GPa (10 GPa) for the Ca (Sr) compound. For CaFeAsF, superconductivity appears at this minimum, coincident with the development of a previously reported monoclinic phase. For SrFeAsF, where the orthorhombic and the monoclinic phase were reported to coexist, superconductivity exists above P≥1 GPa. Both phase diagrams can be scaled by a shift of ~10 GPa pressure at which the volume of SrFeAsF and that of CaFeAsF at ambient pressure coincide. The difference of our phase diagram with that of electron-doped 1111 samples is accounted for by hole doping under pressure, which we verified through electron band structure calculations. Abstract

We report on a study of the vortex creep in Fe${}_{1+\ensuremath{\delta}}($Te${}_{x}$Se${}_{1\ensuremath{-}x}$) single crystals ($x=0.5$ and $0.4$) down to 0.28 K ($\ensuremath{\sim}{T}_{c}/50$) and up to ${\ensuremath{\mu}}_{0}{H}_{a}=2$T. The relaxation of the current density [$J(t)$] has been measured during 20 hours and the decay of $J(t)$ can be well described by a $J(t)\ensuremath{\propto}{[ln(t/{t}_{0})]}^{\ensuremath{-}1/\ensuremath{\mu}}$ law. We show that the relaxation exponent $\ensuremath{\mu}$ tends towards 0 for $Tl2$K and ${\ensuremath{\mu}}_{0}{H}_{a}l0.1$T [i.e. $J(t)\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{({t}_{0}/t)}^{\ensuremath{\alpha}}$] and increases for increasing $T$ and/or ${H}_{a}$. Our measurements strongly suggest that the logarithmic creep rate $R=\ensuremath{-}dln(J)/dln(t)$ remains finite at zero temperature (${R}_{|T\ensuremath{\rightarrow}0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}2$%) and hence that quantum creep plays a dominant role in the relaxation process at low temperature. A maximum is observed in both the temperature and field dependence of $R(t=100\text{s},T,{H}_{a}),$ which can be associated to a crossover from a single vortex (one-dimensional) to a bundle (three-dimensional) creep regime.

Abstract

International audience; We have studied the resistance of 1T -CrSe2, as the Cr atoms are substituted by V or Ti. The V replacement leads to a logarithmic increase in the resistance as the temperature is lowered, proportional to the V concentration. While this behavior is consistent with the Kondo effect, the weak dependence of the resistance with magnetic field and the fact that the system has antiferromagnetic order, rule out a Kondo effect due to spin degeneracy. In contrast to the case of V, Ti substitution does not increase the logarithmic term while application of pressure destroys it. Calculations of the electronic structure within the framework of density functional theory, maximally localized Wannier functions, and many-body calculations in a cluster containing a Cr or V atom and its six nearest-neighbor Se atoms, helped to reveal the existence of an orbital Kondo effect due to orbital degeneracy in the V substitutional impurities.

Abstract

We have performed electrical resistivity measurements under pressures up to 20 GPa between 1 and 300 K on monocrystalline hexagonal Rb 0.19 WO 3 . For pressures lower than ∼5 GPa, we observe a decrease of the metallic-like resistivity at room temperature as well as a small decrease of T c . At this pressure, the resistivity starts to increase slowly up to 10 GPa accompanied by a sharper decrease of T c .The resistivity curves above 10 GPa denote an activated behaviour and a T c lower than 3 K indicating that there is a phase transition that takes place gradually between 5 and 10 GPa. We interpret our measurements as the result of structural transformations under high pressure.

Abstract

International audience; We have studied the effect of substitution of Cr in metastable 1T -CrSe2 by Ti and V on its structural and magnetic properties. The structural transitions observed between 165-180 K in the pure material are stomped by the doping. The pure compound has a magnetization corresponding to an antiferromagnetic (AF) ground state. On Ti substitution, we observe an increase of the lattice constants and a gradual passage towards a ferromagnetic state, while V replacement maintains AF order up to our highest doping, xV = 0.5.With our experimental results and the help of first-principles calculations, we construct the phase diagram of the system.

Abstract

We measure the pressure dependence of the electrical resistivity and the crystal structure of iron superconductor Sr2VO3FeAs. Below ~10 GPa the structure compresses but remains undeformed, with regular FeAs4 tetrahedrons, and a constant Tc. Beyond 10GPa, the tetrahedron strongly distorts, while Tc goes gradually to zero. Band structure calculations of the undistorted structure show multiple nesting features that hinder the development of an antiferromagnetic ground state (AF), allowing the appearance of superconductivity. Abstract

International audience; We report on specific heat Cp , transport, Hall probe, and penetration depth measurements performed on Fe Se0.5Te0.5 single crystals Tc 14 K . The thermodynamic upper critical field Hc2 lines has been deduced from Cp measurements up to 28 T for both H c and H ab, and compared to the lines deduced from transport measurements up to 55 T in pulsed magnetic fields . We show that this thermodynamic Hc2 line presents a very strong downward curvature for T→Tc which is not visible in transport measurements. This temperature dependence associated to an upward curvature of the field dependence of the Sommerfeld coefficient confirms that Hc2 is limited by paramagnetic effects. Surprisingly this paramagnetic limit is visible here up to T/Tc 0.99 for H ab which is the consequence of a very small value of the coherence length c 0 4 Å and ab 0 15 Å , confirming the strong renormalization of the effective mass as compared to DMFT calculations previously observed in ARPES measurements A. Tamai, A. Y. Ganin, E. Rozbicki, J. Bacsa, W. Meevasana, P. D. C. King, M. Caffio, R. Schaub, S. Margadonna, K. Prassides, M. J. Rosseinsky, and F. Baumberger, Phys. Rev. Lett. 104, 097002 2010 . Hc1 measurements lead to ab 0 =430 50 nm and c 0 =1600 200 nm and the corresponding anisotropy is approximatively temperature independent 4 , being close to the anisotropy of Hc2 for T→Tc. The temperature dependence of both T2 and the electronic contribution to the specific heat confirm the nonconventional coupling mechanism in this system.
