Danmark er igen blandt de mindst korrupte lande i verden, men målet for korruption er ikke altid retvisende. Det er vigtigt, at man også ser på den transnationale korruption, skriver korruptionsforsker Morten Koch Andersen.

Vi har brug for mere forebyggelse, statistik og debat om korruption, hvis vi vil fastholde vores position som et af verdens mindst korrupte lande, mener forskeren, der advarer imod at sætte sig tilbage i stolen og bare lade stå til – set i lyset af de seneste par års alvorlige sager.

Korruption er den mest ødelæggende sygdom, et samfund kan have. Det underminerer retsstaten og har kolossale konsekvenser for de mennesker, der lever med korruption til daglig. Men korruptionen tager sig meget forskelligt ud alt efter, hvor man befinder sig i verden. Mens den herhjemme stort set ikke noget vi lægger mærke til, kommer den andre steder til udtryk som en konstant trussel om vold og tortur. Denne dokumentarserie lader en række stærke mennesker, der bor i Dhaka, Bangladesh, fortælle sin historie. Du møder både kvinden fra slummen, menneskerettighedsaktivisten, journalisten, akademikeren og mange flere. Corruption and human rights are complex phenomena arising in a multitude of forms that inextricably link politics, governance, and legality in complicated ways and with intricate implications for individuals and societies. However, our knowledge on the dynamics of corruption and practices of legal institutions is wanting; there is dire need of new knowledge on the nexus between corruption and human rights that can contribute to national and international efforts of understanding and to counteracting institutional deficiencies, mismanagement, malpractices, and their societal implications on a global scale. The article argues, we need an additional lens that focuses on the societal constructions of norms and configurations of political power, to understand the persistent unfolding and distribution of social and economic inequalities in specific contexts.

Documentation of human rights violations is a difficult and dangerous practice. The capacity of human rights organizations does not match the extent of the problems they encounter and the depth of the issues they illuminate. Documentation of human rights violations frames claim-making, manifestations of victimhood and citizenship. By examining documentation practices in Bangladesh, I show how information travels through a line of filters that determines and delimits what we can know about violations, what we can do to assist victims, and how we can prevent future abuses. I argue that this filtering process is a selective political practice - one which is conditioned by the individual capacities, organizational resources, and political contexts through which exposures to violence become human rights cases. It is this - the 'how' of documentation - that delimits what is made public and what is known about violations.
