The El Salvador plutonic complex is a 9.2 km2 circular body within the Sierra de Tamaulipas, part of the Eastern Mexican Alkaline Province (EMAP). Three alkaline magmatic suites were identified from El Salvador from the geochemical analysis of 20 samples. Suite A (SiO2 = 58.3–65.3 wt.%) is ferroan (Fe* = 0.761–0.873) and alkalic (MALI = 4.83–9.89). In contrast, Suites B (SiO2 = 52.5–60.8 wt.%; Fe* = 0.680–0.756) and C (SiO2 = 50.5–67.1 wt.%; Fe* = 0.616–0.749) are magnesian. Suite B is alkali-calcic (MALI = -2.18–4.64), while Suite C is alkalic (MALI = 4.48–8.59). All suites display arc-related signatures. U-Pb and fission-track geochronology data reveal two uplift episodes during the cooling history of Suite A. One in the Late Eocene was based on U-Pb zircon (38.42 ± 0.21 Ma) and titanite ages (35.54 ± 3.77 Ma). The other was during the Oligocene from U-Pb apatite (29.9 ± 6.54 Ma) and fission-track titanite (30.2 ± 5.53 Ma) and apatite ages (32.7 ± 7.06 Ma). Integrating the arc-related signatures of El Salvador rocks with the well-documented Palaeogene arc magmatism of the Sierra Madre del Sur, we propose that the mantle beneath the EMAP experienced metasomatism during the Early Permian (and possibly the Early Jurassic) but not after the Late Cretaceous, ruling out Cenozoic slab subduction in eastern Mexico. In the absence of a slab to explain the El Salvador magmatism, we suggest a long-lasting, widespread mantle upwelling beneath Mexico's northern half in response to the Farallon slab's break-up. Under this context, the westward drift of the North American plate led to the Mexican Foreland Basin lithosphere reaching this massive mantle upwelling in late Eocene times to produce the EMAP magmatism. Archaeological studies carried out in recent decades have demonstrated that the Pre‐Pyrenees, a mountain range in north‐east Iberia, were regularly frequented by several human groups during the Late Pleistocene. The Cova del Parco archaeological site is an example of this large‐scale and regular human presence. The site was discovered and first excavated in the 1970s, and since the 1980s, a team from the University of Barcelona has been conducting archaeological work. So far, we have found that the site was at least frequented from the Middle Magdalenian upon historical times. In this paper, we present the results of the archaeopetrological, geochemical and geographic information system (GIS) analyses of chert tools ascribed to the Middle Magdalenian sequence. The textural, micropalaeontological and geochemical analysis of the lithic artefacts has allowed us to identify several chert types from local, regional and long‐distance sources. Some of these cherts had their origin in the northern slopes of the Pyrenean chain, suggesting that this mountain chain was regularly crossed by Magdalenian groups. Next, we performed GIS analyses to determine the paths and connections that may have linked the archaeological site with the different chert outcrops, and to identify the best routes for crossing the Pyrenean Mountain range. Moreover, this study provides a larger vision of the mobility and the complex economic interactions between the different Magdalenian groups that settled Cova del Parco at the end of the Late Pleistocene. Investigating the geochemical composition of bulk sediments stands as a crucial method for unraveling the complexities of various sedimentary processes. However, the intricacies arising from extensive datasets and alterations in sediment due to diverse factors often impede the clear identification of underlying patterns in geochemical fluctuations. In addressing these, employing multivariate statistical analyses has proven to be an invaluable tool for elucidating intricate patterns within large dataset. In this study, we focus on the utilization of Principal Component Analysis (PCA), a multivariate statistical technique, to uncover the underlying sedimentary processes influencing distinct geochemical dataset. Specifically, our attention is directed towards the examination of geochemical data from the previously published geochemical data of metasediments from Shimla and Chail group (referred to as SCM) and the mudflat sediments of Diu Island (referred to as DMS). Our PCA outcomes reveal that the initial three principal components (PC1, PC2, and PC3) account for 52.51% and 79.30% of the total variance within the SCM and DMS geochemical data, respectively. Notably, the negative loading of SiO2, alongside positive loadings of incompatible elements and those associated with mafic rocks on PC1 within the SCM dataset, indicates sediment origins ranging from felsic to intermediate sources. Additionally, the coexistence of Th, U, Zr, and Sc, exhibiting positive loadings in PC1 and PC2, suggests a significant influence of reworking and recycling from felsic to intermediate sources. In the context of the DMS dataset, PCA analysis highlights the dominant influence of in-situ productivity and mafic sediment sources along the positive axis of PC1. Conversely, the negative axis of PC1 is shaped by intermediate and potentially other sources. Further granularity in interpretation reveals the positive axis of PC2 being attributed to weathering proxies, while the dominance of plagioclase minerals in the clayey fraction controls the positive axis of PC3. Through this investigation, our study underscores the essential role of PCA-assisted geochemical data analysis in unraveling the intricate web of processes contributing to the variance observed within sedimentary systems. The Pannonian Basin is one of the best natural laboratories in the world to study the lithospheric response to continental extension and subsequent tectonic inversion. Here we address the topic of lithospheric structure by a combined geochemical and magnetotelluric analysis, which has been carried out in the framework of the Pannon LitH2Oscope project. The main objective was to detect the resistivity distribution over the entire lithosphere by magnetotelluric measurements, considering the lithological resistivity properties and relate the results to the structure and evolution of the Pannonian Basin. The Pannon LitH2Oscope MT array was used to estimate the depth of the Lithosphere-Asthenosphere Boundary (LAB), considering the legacy MT data and compared to previous estimates for the region. Using the MT and geomagnetic response functions, major structural zones of the Pannonian basin, such as the Mid-Hungarian Shear Zone or fault systems like the Makó Trough and the Békés Basin, were also imaged. In addition, we used the apparent resistivity soundings to compare 1D resistivity models computed from geochemistry and obtained from field MT measurements. This comparison provided new constrains for the composition, fluid and melt content variations at the local lithosphere-asthenosphere boundary. The Pannon LitH2Oscope MT dataset and the results presented in this paper provide input for more complex 3D inversions and further investigations of the lithospheric structure in the Carpathian-Pannonian region. The Jurassic–Cretaceous boundary is the only Phanerozoic period-level boundary that lacks a golden spike on the geological timescale despite significant global geological and environmental change during this time related to the opening of the Atlantic Ocean. Paleoenvironmental proxy profiles (total organic carbon, δ34S, δ15N, Fe, Mn, Ce/Ce*, Th/U, δ13Corg, P, Ni, Zn, Cu, and B/Ga) for core 3 of the Baccalieu I-78 well in the Flemish Pass Basin, offshore eastern Canada, exhibit a geochemical anomaly between 3288.5 and 3289 m, overlapping with the biostratigraphic placement of the Jurassic–Cretaceous boundary. Collectively the geochemical analyses are interpreted to indicate that the anomaly is associated with a fall in relative sea level, followed by a rise, which led to restricted circulation, stratification, and widespread anoxia. This anoxia, coupled with an arid climate, further resulted in reduced weathering, limited nutrient supply, and an overall reduction in primary productivity. The results of this study, in conjunction with previous biostratigraphic studies on core 3, suggest that the Jurassic–Cretaceous boundary in Baccalieu I-78 likely falls within the geochemical anomaly, specifically between 3228.5 and 3288.85 m. Furthermore, the paleoenvironmental interpretations derived in this study agree with published reports on global sea level and climate trends around the Jurassic–Cretaceous boundary, implying the influence of global, rather than regional, factors on deposition. This suggests that geochemical proxies may be useful in providing additional paleoenvironmental insights and helping to constrain stratigraphic boundaries, particularly in intervals that lack significant lithological or biological change. The sandstone uranium deposits in the Kelulun Depression are the first commercially viable uranium deposits discovered in the Hailar Basin and the ore-bearing strata corresponding to the Lower Cretaceous Yimin Formation. However, the source of sedimentary matter, uranium source conditions, and uranium mineralization processes in the region have not been characterized. Accordingly, we analyzed the lithology, whole-rock geochemistry, zircon U-Pb ages, and trace elements of the Yimin Formation sandstones. The Yimin Formation sandstones were primarily composed of detrital grains with low compositional maturity. A geochemical analysis indicated that the parent rocks are felsic igneous rocks formed at an active continental margin with a moderately high degree of weathering. The detrital zircon U-Pb ages of the Yimin Formation 215–287 Ma with a peak at 230–260 Ma. Based on chronological, geochemical, and lithological data, we conclude that the Yimin Formation matter is derived from the Adunchulu Uplift on the western side of the Kelulun Depression and its parent rocks are Triassic granites. The Adunchulu uplift since the late Early Cretaceous and weathering and denudation of its uranium-rich granites provided ample matter and uranium. Abstract\nKEY POINTSThe extensive middle Cambrian evaporite platform dolostone represents a significant area for hydrocarbon exploration in the Tarim Basin with recent advances indicating promising exploration prospects. However, owing to its considerable depth and the limited exploration, the genesis and distribution of evaporite-related dolostone reservoirs from the middle Cambrian remain poorly understood. This study includes detailed field investigations along with petrological, mineralogical and geochemical analyses to characterise the secondary porosity of the middle Cambrian Shaelek Formation evaporite platform dolostone and to explore the origin of the diagenetic fluids responsible for these features. The results show that gypsum dissolution vugs are the main secondary porosity in the evaporite platform dolostone reservoirs, with their development and distribution strongly controlled by sedimentary facies. Meteoric dissolution during the penecontemporaneous period is responsible for this secondary porosity. The frequent fluctuation in sea-levels and the transient exposure of the dolostone reservoirs provide favourable conditions for the dissolution of unstable gypsum. The multiple stages of calcite filling in the vugs result from supersaturated precipitation from fluids during the late stage of meteoric diagenesis. Variations in δ13C, δ18O and rare earth element compositions between the two types of calcite reflect different stages of fluid evolution and varying degrees of water–rock reaction. The vug-filling fluorite is of non-hydrothermal genesis but results from the highly evaporative concentrated seawater and terrigenous input. The highly concentrated F– in evaporative seawater, combined with F– from fluvial input (if any) during subaerial exposure, most likely provides the F– necessary for fluorite precipitation. Our current knowledge regarding the distribution patterns of ancient and recent recycled materials, as well as the origin of intraplate basalts in the eastern Asia Big Mantle Wedge (BMW), is limited. To address this, we conducted a detailed geochemical analysis of olivine melt inclusions (OLMI) in nephelinite samples. The normal OLMIs detected in our investigation exhibit geochemical features that closely resemble those of the hosting nephelinite, indicating a consistent association with a carbonated mantle source. Additionally, we identified a distinct group of anomalous OLMIs that displayed different geochemical characteristics from the hosting nephelinite but showed similarities to regional alkali basalts sourced from pyroxenite. The observed geochemical diversity in the nephelinite OLMIs suggests an interaction between deeply derived carbonated melts originating from the flattened Pacific slab in the mantle transition zone and pyroxenite in the lithospheric mantle. Carbonated fluid‐fluxed melting is key to basalt formation in the BMW. Plain Language Summary: The Big Mantle Wedge (BMW) refers to the mantle regions situated between the flattened subducted slab in the mantle transition zone (MTZ) and the overlying plates. In order to better understand the distribution patterns of recycled materials and the origin of intraplate basalts within the Eastern Asia BMW, we have focused on studying the Cenozoic basalts from the eastern North China region. Initially, it was believed that these basalts were formed through decompression melting of the mantle caused by back‐arc extension associated with the subduction of the Pacific plate. However, recent studies have revealed unique characteristics of these basalts, such as high water content and isotopic values that differ from those of the depleted mantle. This suggests a possible connection between the basalts and decarbonation and dehydration processes occurring within the stagnant subducted slab in the MTZ. According to the proposed model, carbonated melts/fluids released from the stagnant slab interacted with the lithospheric mantle, resulting in the transformation of the melts and the involvement of pyroxenite in the lithospheric mantle. The pyroxenite forms through ancient melt metasomatism events. This interaction ultimately leads to the generation of basalts with a wide range of SiO2 content. Turbidity current deposition belongs to event deposition, which is of great significance to the study of neotectonic movement. However, turbidite deposits are rarely found in deep-sea basins. In this work, the particle size, mineralogy, and geochemistry of 14 deep-sea sediment cores from the Southwest Sub-basin (SWSB) of South China Sea (SCS) and its periphery are used to trace the sources of sediment and reveal the sedimentological and geochemical characteristics of deep-sea sediments. The results show that quartz and feldspar are the main minerals in the core sediments from the SWSB, and there are multiple layers of turbidites. Geochemical analysis reveals that the composition of the core sediments is close to that of the western margin of the SCS and is similar to that of the upper continental crust (UCC) and is inherited from terrigenous sediments. The Sr--Nd isotope results indicate that the sediment provenances of the SWSB are from the Mekong River, Sunda Shelf and Red River, showing the characteristics of multiple sources. Therefore, we propose that terrigenous materials from multiple sources can reach the deep-sea basin of the SWSB, and we also establish a transport model of deep-sea terrigenous sediment. Terrigenous materials were first carried by rivers and surface currents to the continental margins near the SWSB, and fine materials were subsequently transported by surface currents to the deep-sea basin, while coarse materials were subsequently transported by turbidity currents. The Rare Earth Element (REE) geochemistry of siliciclastic sediment in the Ilaje area, eastern Dahomey basin, southwestern Nigeria was conducted to determine the provenance, geotectonic setting as well the REE economic potential in the sediments. Geochemical analysis results (ppm) revealed the concentration of La varies from 1.87–21.47 while Ce ranges from 1.16–45.98. Others include; Pr (1.07–39.56), Nd (0.71–26.02), Sm (0.42–12.51), Eu (0.20–4.66), Gd (0.27–8.79), Tb (0.29–3.97), Dy (0.28–3.62), Ho (0.22–2.76), Er (0.29–2.64), Tm (0.33–3.83), Yb (0.37–3.75) and Lu (0.29–3.03) respectively while the ∑REE ranges from 2.25 to 6686.75 ppm. The REE normalization plot is characterized by an inclined shape depletion indicating depletion trend. The patterns show an enriched Light Rare Earth Elements (LREE) and Heavy Rare Earth Element (HREE) pattern indicating upper continental crust sourced materials. The plot also revealed a negative Eu anomaly which may be associated with plagioclase fractionation in the acidic source rocks. The Early Paleozoic tectonic setting and geological processes of the South China Block have long been a subject of debate. This study presented zircon U-Pb geochronology and Hf isotope, and whole-rock geochemical analyses for the Early Paleozoic granitoids in the Baoshan deposit of the Dayaoshan Uplift. LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb results suggest that the diorites, granite porphyries, granodiorites and its mafic microgranular enclaves in the Baoshan deposit formed at 449-430 Ma. Their formation ages are consistent with those of granite, MMEs and mafic rocks found in the Dayaoshan region. The granite porphyries, granodiorites, diorites and their MMEs in the Baoshan deposit have high Eu/Eu*ratios, low Zr + Nb + Y + Ce contents, 10,000xGa/Al values, and A/CNK ratios (0.74-1.08), belonging to metaluminous to weakly peraluminous calc-alkaline I-type granitoids. Based on zircon Hf isotopic compositions (eHf(t) from -5.5 to +3.1), it is unlikely that these rocks were solely originated from a crustal source, and mantle-derived magma also played a significant role in the formation of these intrusive rocks. It is inferred that the granitoids in the Baoshan deposit were probably formed through the underplating of mantlederived magmas during a transitional collision to extension tectonic setting, which led to the remelting of Mesoproterozoic crust. The first in‐depth geochemical and petrological analyses of new lunar meteorite Northwest Africa (NWA) 11788 were conducted with the aim of better understanding the diversity of lunar rock types. Petrography, microcomputed tomography, electron probe microanalysis, and laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry were employed to analyze mineralogic/elemental makeup, petrologic profile, melt history, and inferred composition of the lunar mantle from which the crystals in this sample originated from. Geochemical maps of the lunar surface were generated to constrain potential lunar launch locations for NWA 11788. Potential launch locations are concentrated in the outer rims of impact basins on the lunar Eastern nearside limb (e.g., Crisium, Fecunditatis, Marginis, Smythii) and around the South Pole–Aitken Basin. Similarities in the major, minor, and trace element chemistry of NWA 11788 along with its potential launch locations suggest a petrogenetic relationship with regolith samples returned from the Luna 20 mission and the Apollo 16 and 17 magnesian granulites. Additionally, the results of this study add to the growing body of evidence that KREEP (potassium, rare earth elements, phosphorous)‐poor, Mg‐suite‐“like” lithologies are common in non‐Apollo‐type locales, that KREEP may not be required to generate lithologies like the Mg‐suite, and that KREEP is not globally distributed at present. Integration of different kinds of data is an important issue in archaeological prospection. However, the current methodological approaches are underdeveloped and rarely use the data to their maximum potential. Common approaches to integration in the geophysical sciences are mostly just various forms of comparison. We argue that true integration should involve the mathematical manipulation of input data such that the original values of the input data are changed, or that new variables are produced. To address this important research gap, we present an innovative approach to the analysis of geochemical and geophysical datasets in prospection-focused disciplines. Our approach, which we refer to as "multiscalar integration" to differentiate it from simpler methods, involves the application of mathematical methods and tools to process the data in a unified way. To demonstrate our approach, we focus on integrating geophysical data (magnetometry) with geochemical data (elemental content). Our approach comprises three main stages: Quantification of the data deviation from random distributions, linear modelling of geophysical and geochemical data and integration based on weighting of the different elements derived in previous steps. All the steps of the workflow can be also applied separately and independently as needed or preferred. Our approach is implemented in the R environment for statistical computing. All data, functions and scripts used in the work are available from open access repositories (Zenodo.org and Github.com) so that others can test, modify and apply our proposed methods to new cases and problems. Our approach has the following advantages: (1) It allows the rapid exploration of multiple data sources in an unified way; (2) it can increase the utility of geochemical data across diverse prospection disciplines; (3) it facilitates the identification of links between geochemical and geophysical data (or generally, between point-based and raster data); (4) it innovatively integrates various datasets by weighting the information provided by each; (5) it is simple to apply following a step-by-step framework; (6) the code and workflow is fully open to allow for customization, improvements and additions. This study investigates the genesis of analcite in black shale from continental lakes and its implications for hydrocarbon enrichment, with a case study of the Permian Pingdiquan Formation in the Junggar Basin, Xinjiang, China. As an alkaline mineral, analcite is extensively developed in China's lacustrine black shale hydrocarbon source rocks and is linked to hydrocarbon distribution. However, the mechanisms of its formation and its impact on hydrocarbon generation and accumulation remain insufficiently understood. This paper employs a multi-analytical approach, including petrological observations, geochemical analysis, and X-ray diffraction, to characterize analcite and its association with hydrocarbon source rocks. The study identifies a hydrothermal sedimentary origin for analcite, suggesting that it forms under conditions of alkaline lake water and volcanic activity, which are conducive to organic matter enrichment. The analcite content in the studied samples exhibits a significant variation, with higher contents associated with hydrocarbon accumulation zones, suggesting its role in hydrocarbon generation and accumulation. This paper reports that analcite-bearing rocks display characteristics of high-quality reservoirs, enhancing the permeability and porosity of the rock, which is essential for hydrocarbon storage and migration. In conclusion, this paper underscores the importance of analcite as a key mineral indicator for hydrocarbon potential in black shale formations and provides valuable insights for further geological and hydrocarbon exploration in similar settings. The Neoproterozoic granitic rocks of Mount Abu Kibash and Tulayah in the central Eastern Desert of Egypt are of geodynamic interest and provide us with important information about the evolution and growth of the northern part of the Arabian–Nubian Shield (ANS) continental crust. They are primarily composed of granodiorites and syenogranites based on new field, mineralogical, and geochemical analyses. The granodiorites are marked by an enrichment of LILEs such as Sr, K, Rb, Ba compared to HFSEs like Nb, Ta, Ti and show a higher concentration of LREEs relative to HREEs. This composition suggests a subduction-related setting and aligns with the characteristics of subducted I-type granites in the ANS. Chemistry of the analyzed primary amphiboles in the investigated granodiorites support a calc-alkaline nature, mixed source and subduction-related setting. The granodiorites represent an early magmatic phase in this setting, likely formed from a mix of mantle-derived mafic magmas and lower crust material, with subsequent fractional crystallization. On the other hand, syenogranites exhibit high SiO2 (72.02–74.02 wt%), total alkali (7.82–8.01 wt%), and Al2O3 (13.79–14.25 wt%) levels, suggesting their derivation from peraluminous (A/CNK > 1) parental magmas. Their REE-normalized patterns are flat with a pronounced negative Eu anomaly, typical of post-collisional A2-type granites worldwide. These rocks originated from the partial melting of a juvenile lower crustal source (tonalite) in a post-collisional setting, driven by lithospheric delamination that facilitated mantle upwelling and underplating to the lower crust. Interaction between the upwelled mantle and lower crust led to fertilization (enrichment with HFSE and alkalis) of the lithosphere before partial melting. Fractional crystallization coupled with less considerable crustal assimilation are the main magmatic processes during the evolution of these rocks. The transition from subduction to post-collisional setting was accompanied by crustal uplifting, thickening and extensional collapse of ANS continental crust that caused emplacement of large masses of A-type granites in the northern ANS. The Early Jurassic was primarily a greenhouse phase in Earth's history. Previous studies have predominantly focused on marine strata in the Tethyan Ocean, but continental records outside of Europe are still poorly understood, which has hindered a thorough understanding of its climate dynamics. To address this gap, organic, inorganic, and isotope geochemical analyses, along with mineralogical and sedimentological assessments, were conducted on samples from the Quemo Co Formation of well QZ-16 in the Qiangtang Basin (Eastern Tethys). This study aimed to investigate carbon cycle perturbations and consequences of redox conditions and paleosalinity within a lacustrine system during the Early Jurassic. The carbon isotope profile of well QZ-16 exhibited a long-term negative excursion of ca. −3.83‰ in lacustrine sediments, with relatively heavy δ13Corg values and small excursion magnitudes. Enhanced terrigenous input, as indicated by detrital proxies such as Si/Al, Ti/Al, and Zr/Al, was driven by accelerated continental weathering during the carbon isotope excursions. The presence of coarse-grained, pelitic siltstone deposits coincided with the onset of these negative carbon isotope excursions. Sr/Ba ratios (0.05–3.64, avg. 0.73) suggest a brackish to freshwater salinity regime within the third member, implying that the deposition of the Quemo Co Formation was influenced by both freshwater and seawater inputs. Most enrichment factors (VEF, ZnEF, NiEF) having a value below 1.0 and Corg/P ratios less than 50 indicate that the lacustrine environment was characterized by predominantly oxidizing conditions, particularly during the early Toarcian negative carbon isotope excursion (T-NCIE). Despite the record of the T-NCIE event, enhanced respiration in bottom and pore waters indicates that the Toarcian Oceanic Anoxic Event (T-OAE) was absent in this part of the eastern Tethys Ocean. The recorded Early Jurassic environmental settings in the Qiangtang Basin lacustrine system exhibit a close association with the T-CIE event (183 Ma), providing insights into the complex interplay between carbon cycle perturbation, climate, weathering, and biological processes during this greenhouse period. The Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry (TIMS) Laboratory at CSIR-National Geophysical Research Institute, Telangana, Hyderabad, India (CSIR-NGRI) has undertaken a systematic analysis of the isotopic (Sr and Nd) compositions of the eight most frequently used certified reference materials (CRMs) used for in-house geochemical analyses. This investigation improves upon the existing database for the isotopic community. This study uses a two-step Sr-Nd separation procedure to purify Sr and Nd from the geological sample chemically digested using a modified HF-HNO3-HCl scheme. The replicate analyses of SRM 987 and La Jolla yielded an 87Sr/86Sr ratio of 0.710246 ± 0.000006 (n = 8, 2SD) and an average 143Nd/144Nd ratio of 0.511844 ± 0.000008 (n = 8, 2SD) which agrees with the well-accepted value of 0.710245 ± 0.000003 and 0.511846 ± 0.000002 respectively. We report precise Sr-Nd isotopic compositions of CRMs with the 2SD of the mean of the Sr-Nd isotope analysis, always less than or equal to 10. This study presents a procedure for purifying Sr and Nd using ion exchange/extraction column chromatography. The Sr-Nd isotopic compositions of CRMs in this study match well with the published literature. Based on the geological and geochemical analysis of volcanic rock and their surrounding rocks, combined with palaeontological data and hydrocarbon generation thermal simulation experiments, the mechanism of the impact of volcanic eruptions on the formation of organic matter and hydrocarbon generation in the Dongying Depression is investigated. According to the results, underwater volcanic eruptions play a significant role in promoting biological eruptions and water stratification by introducing heat, minerals, and metal elements. The formation of the basalt source rock symbiotic association went through three evolutionary stages, which were underwater eruption, late eruption, and normal sedimentation. These stages have influenced the generation of hydrocarbons from organic matter in the following ways: (1) The organic acid released from the source rock dissolves the adjacent basalt, and the transitional metal elements in the basalt become activated and enter the source rock, which catalyses the hydrocarbon generation from the source rock. (2) Alteration of olivine in basalt releases hydrogen, improving hydrocarbon generation efficiency of source rock. (3) The existence of a large number of carbonates improves the hydrocarbon generation rate and efficiency of source rocks and reduces the hydrocarbon generation threshold of source rocks. This study focuses on understanding the use of space at Aşıklı Höyük in central Turkey through the geochemical analyses of five overlying floors of a quadrangular mudbrick building dating to the Pre-Pottery Neolithic Period. The research allows us to follow the process on a micro-scale, from the design and construction of the structure to its abandonment. We aim to perceive the role of plastered floors to gain insights into the producers and users of the building and those who kept it alive and maintained it. We will treat floors as one of the main actors of these spaces and zero in on entangled relationships by addressing a range of other aspects in the building. The analyses enable the identification of use patterns. The development of oil and gas production technologies has made it possible to take a new look at the prospects of increasing the raw material base of oil in areas with developed production infrastructure. The projects of exploration and preparation for development of high-carbon low-permeability strata, primarily shale formations, occupy a special position today, as the world experience has shown their potential for oil and gas production. High-carbon shale formations are widely spread in Russia. The most significant of them include the Bazhenov Formation of Western Siberia and the Domanik sediments of the Eastern European Platform, the hydrocarbon potential of which is estimated ambiguously. The ambiguity of hydrocarbon potential estimation is related to the uneven distribution of organic matter determined by the variability of sedimentation conditions. The paper presents the results of the study of Upper Devonian sediments, based on analytical geochemical data of well cores and extracts of bitumoids from them. The analysis of the confinement of zones of increased concentration of organic matter to certain sedimentary conditions and facies zones made it possible to estimate the volume of mobile hydrocarbons in the amount of 5.3 billion tonnes preserved in the high carbonaceous strata. The obtained data on HC volumes were compared with the reservoir properties, studied using X-ray tomography, of low-permeability hydrocarbon-bearing clay-siliceous strata, which allowed us to consider the Upper Devonian carbonaceous strata as an important reserve for maintaining oil production in the future in one of the developed oil-producing regions of the European part of Russia. The study is dedicated the dynamics of groundwater quality in the Mykolaiv region (Ukraine) during the period from 2021 to 2024. It was determined that the concentration of chlorides, sulfates and mineralization in water in 2022 increased by 2-3 times (1190 mg/dm3) compared to 2021 (453 mg/dm3), which is due to the use of sea water in the central water supply and the consequences of a man-made disaster that arose under the influence of military operations. Trends in changes in water quality depending on the season and the influence of various factors on the geochemical composition of underground water resources are analyzed. The results obtained indicate a change in groundwater quality. According to the water quality classification according to the water pollution index (WPI), the observed trend indicates a transition from water of quality class II, characterized as "clean water", to water of quality class III, which reflects a moderate level of pollution. The aim of this paper is to present the archaeological data that allows us to characterise the agrarian practices of Roman farmers through the study of cultivated fields. To undertake this research, we designed an analytical strategy combining spatial analysis, microstratigraphic analysis through soil micromorphology and physical-chemical analyses of bulk soil samples, and archaeobotanical analyses including palynology, phytoliths and geochemical analysis. All this has allowed us to obtain data of interest for the reconstruction of agrarian land use and to establish a methodological basis for developing future research. This high-resolution, multiscalar, and multianalytical approach pursues to characterise these archaeological contexts to singularize intensive agricultural practices developed in terraced field. The creation of this Roman peasant landscape is related to a specific models of socioeconomic organisation of agricultural work based on the household and its workforce as a determining vector in agrarian intensification. In paleolimnological studies, rotifers are usually a very rare component in multiproxy research. These small invertebrates are identified from sediments by their loricas. Analysis of subfossil rotifers was conducted for sediment cores collected from three peatlands in within Poland: the Grel raised bog (S Poland, Carpathians, Orawa-Nowy Targ Basin), the Imszar raised bog (NE Poland, Podlasie Region), and the Podemszczyzna peatland (SE Poland, Sandomierz Basin). Results were compared with multiproxy analyses of peat deposits: pollen of aquatic and mire plants, non-pollen palynomorphs (NPPs), and geochemical analyses. Analysis of the rotifers indicated the occurrence of the bdelloid species Habrotrocha angusticollis (Murray, 1905). In all profiles of the studied peatlands, the occurrence of rotifers was not correlated with pollen of aquatic or mire plants or NPPs; they seem to be more related to geochemical indices. The highest densities of rotifers were found in profile sections without significant fluctuations of geochemical variables, i.e. those with higher Na/K (chemical denudation) ratios and stable redox conditions (Fe/Mn ratio). The study of subfossil rotifers supported by multiproxy analysis of peat deposits could be a useful tool for indication of periods with stable palaeohydrological conditions during the Late Glacial and Holocene. The aim of this study is to examine the CO2 gas adsorption capability of coals from Sohagpur coalfield, India. Coal bed CO2 sequestration is a technique utilized to mitigate carbon dioxide emissions and improve global warming. Various factors, including pore structure, pore volume, mineral composition, moisture content, cleats, coal quality, pressure, and temperature, influence the adsorption of CO2 in coal seams. To conduct this investigation, multiple coal samples were collected from the study area and subjected to proximate analysis, ultimate analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR), Brunauer – Emmett–Teller (BET), and measurement of CO2 adsorption rates on the coal samples. Samples were characterized based on their geochemical properties, then pore and fracture properties and maximum adsorption of CO2 gas were determined. The interrelationship between the genetic properties of coal with the adsorption rate of CO2 gas was established. These coals lie mesopore in category with the presence of fractures and hydrogen bonds. The result of BET and kinetics rate indicates that the adsorption of gas was unrestricted multilayer type, and the maximum adsorption of CO2 gas at 50 bar is 2.15 moles gas/kg sample, respectively. Detailed palaeogeographical studies of the accumulative fan in the Serteyka River valley in W Russia and underlying biogenic deposits were carried out. The base of a representative core of biogenic sediments in the distal zone is dated to 1291 BC, while its top to 1631 AD. In this paper, palynological, plant macrofossils, Chironomide and Cladocera, geochemical, geochronological and sedimentological analysis were performed. Four phases of biogenic deposition were distinguished by pollen and geochemical analyses. Two of them coincide with the climatic fluctuation during Medieval Climate Anomaly and Little Ice Age. During the formation of the fan, overbank deposits were accumulated also, indicating numerous and intense floods, which are in line with the trend observed for other sites in this region. The accumulative fan is formed by lower, middle and upper deluvia and agricultural diamicton in its top. All units have specific sedimentological and geochemical features as well as low admixture of plant macrofossils. The beginning of the formation of this relief form dates back to the second half of the 17th century AD, and the end of the accumulation falls on the second half of the 18th century AD. Our work suggests that natural conditions had an impact on the formation and development of studied accumulative fan, however, the decisive factor causing the intensification of the slope processes were related with deforestation resulted from strong human impact, which was marked in palynological and macrofossils analyses (e.g. increase in the contribution of plants macrofossils related to agriculture). The formation of Fe-Ti oxides-rich layers is commonly associated with open-system magma chamber dynamics. These processes are widely discussed due to the economic importance of Fe-Ti-(V) deposits, although an alkaline-system approach to the matter is still scarce. In this study, we use petrography, mineral chemistry, X-ray diffraction and elemental geochemical analyses (whole-rock and Sr isotopes) to discuss the process associated with the formation of Fe-Ti-(V) oxide-rich clinopyroxenite (OCP, 7–15 vol.%) and magnetitite (MTT, 85 vol.%) from the Ponte Nova alkaline mafic–ultramafic massif (PN, K-Ar 87.6 Ma). Ilmenite and Ti-magnetite from both OCP and MTT exhibit higher MgO contents (MgO > 5.0 wt%) than other PN rocks. OCP shows high 87Sr/86Sri ratios, equivalent to crustal-contaminated lithotypes of the PN Central Intrusion, while MTTs are less radiogenic. The oxide supersaturation in silicate mafic magmas is typically associated with the dislocation of the liquid cotectic evolution line, shifting to Fe-Ti-(V) oxide minerals stability field, mainly Ti-magnetite. Different magmatic processes can lead to these changes such as crustal contamination and magma recharge. For the PN massif, the OCP was formed by the assimilation of crustal contaminants in a mush region, near the magma chamber upper walls, which was associated with the evolution of the main pulse. Differently, the MTT would have its origin related to the interaction between magma chamber evolved liquids and more primitive liquids during a new episode of magma recharge. The sedimentary column at the Rechitsa oilfield in the Pripyat rift basin, Belarus, is dominated by an Upper Devonian synrift succession. The succession includes uppermost Frasnian and mid‐Famennian salt units which are about 1000 m and 2000 m thick respectively. Reservoir rocks consist of sandstones and carbonates in the intra‐, inter‐ and sub‐salt successions. In this paper, the geochemical analysis of 15 oil samples from different stratigraphic intervals at the Rechitsa field is used as a basis for reservoir characterisation. Geochemical studies included biomarker and stable C, N and S isotope analyses. Four genetic oil groups were identified and are referred to as Groups A to D. Oils in Group A came from upper intra‐ and inter‐salt reservoir rocks; the oils are early mature, enriched in heavy (C36+) hydrocarbons, heteroatoms, aryl‐isoprenoids and gammacerane, with low Pr/Ph = 0.6 and a sulphur isotope composition averaging 22.7‰ CDT. Oils in Group B were from sub‐salt reservoirs and are at peak maturity with Pr/Ph = 1, an increased proportion of C27 regular steranes, and a sulphur isotope composition of 8.1‰ CDT. The single oil sample in Group C was from a Proterozoic reservoir. The oil was overmature with a low content of heavy fractions, heteroatoms and steranes; its hopanes composition indicated that it was generated by the same source rock as the oils in Group B. Oils in Group D came from inter‐salt reservoir rocks and were composed of a mixture of Groups A and B oils in roughly equal proportions, as indicated by their average isotope, molecular and biomarker compositions. Observed differences in oil composition were explained in terms of contributions from at least two different source rocks together with variations in source rock maturity. Group A oils were interpreted to have been generated by Famennian carbonate‐rich source rocks containing dominantly marine and bacterial organic matter deposited in an anoxic evaporitic setting. Source rocks for Groups B and C oils were suggested to be composed of OM‐rich marine shales of Frasnian age or older. The geochemical characteristics of the Devonian oils from Rechitsa field, and the oil‐oil and oil‐ source rock correlations reported, will contribute to a better understanding of the petroleum system in the Pripyat Basin although direct oil‐ source rock correlations are not yet available. The presence of at least two source rocks for the Rechitsa oils has been suggested, respectively comprising carbonates in the inter‐salt succession and marine shales and/or carbonates in the sub‐salt succession. The main controls on oil composition in the Devonian reservoir units were the varying contributions from the different source rocks and differences in source rock thermal maturity associated with variations in burial depth and tectonics, together with the stratigraphic distribution of reservoir units which was in turn controlled by the presence of the thick Frasnian and Famennian salt units. Xenoliths recovered from the post-Variscan Bode dike system of the eastern Harz Mountains provide evidence for the existence of an Early Devonian magmatic arc system hidden beneath very low-grade metasedimentary rocks of the Rhenohercynian Zone, but also for Late Carboniferous–Early Permian crust reworking. This interpretation is based on petrographic observations and whole-rock geochemical analyses of granite xenoliths, in addition to results of zircon U–Pb dating and Hf isotope analyses. Zircon grains recovered from variably deformed granite xenoliths yield ages between 419 and 393 Ma, interpreted to reflect the timing of granite intrusion. Rare zircon xenocrysts of Archean (ca. 2.92–2.65 Ga) and Proterozoic age (ca. 1.5 to 0.56 Ga), all with subchondritic εHf420 Ma values (− 0.8 to − 5.5) indicate reworking of older crust. Compilation of age-Hf isotope data further suggests that the pre-Variscan granitoids beneath the Harz Mountains belong to the same magmatic arc system exposed widespread in the adjacent Mid-German Crystalline Zone, and interpreted to result from NW-ward subduction of the Rheic Ocean beneath Avalonia-Baltica. Zircon in xenoliths with granophyric texture yields ages at 400 Ma and 295–310 Ma, indicating re-melting of Devonian granitoid basement during post-Variscan rift-related magmatism, immediately prior to Bode dike intrusion. Located on the Congolese (DRC) side of the Lemba depression, our study area is the part that was returned by "ex-Zaïrep", just east of the concession currently operated by Perenco rep. Open to oil and mining exploration, we brought back phosphate rock samples from the field, which were analyzed by the Commissariat Général à l'Energie Atomique (CGEA) using the ED-XRF Xepos III spectrometer. These analyses were used to characterize the geochemistry of the Kanzi and Mvuangu phosphates. The results of the Chemical Analyses (Oxides) and Chemical Elements are as follows: (1) Major oxides (%:) Al2O3 (21,21 - 17,24); SiO2 (14,85 - 30,40); P2O5 (19,48 -13,34 %) finally Fe2O3 (8,544 - 10,74 %), and other oxides with concentrations in mg/kg (MnO, ZnO, Rb2O, SrO, ZrO2, Nb2O5, Sb2O5, Ta2O5); (2) Major Chemical Elements (%): Aluminum (11.22-9.124); Silicon (6.939-14.21); Phosphate (8.5-5.823 %) and several trace metallic elements that will be exposed in another soil and sediment matrix to assess the state of the environment prior to mining and petroleum activities. The origin of these metallic elements, including heavy metals, rare earths and radionuclides, is phosphate. Phosphate rocks, such as apatite, may contain heavy metals, rare earths and radionuclides in their mineral structure. The gravity anomaly map of the Lemba sub-basin, where the phosphate sites are located, clearly shows that the phosphates of Kanzi in the south and Mvuangu in the north are not located in the central deposits, but in the upper parts of the sub-basin. These areas are potentially anticlines, which are geological structures capable of containing hydrocarbons. This study is a contribution to our knowledge of the phosphate resource in Kanzi and Mvuangu, and contribute to understanding the geological structures capable of containing hydrocarbons. Geochemical analysis was performed on the Cretaceous sequence of the Azhar‐A‐2 well in the West Beni Suef Basin (WBSB), Western Desert, Egypt, utilizing data on total organic carbon (TOC), kerogen composition, vitrinite reflectance (Ro%) and Rock‐Eval pyrolysis. In addition, a 1D basin model was built to investigate the burial and temperature history of the study area. The most important Cretaceous source rocks are predominantly reported within the Albian Kharita Formation and Late Cenomanian‐Santonian Abu Roash (AR) Formation. Based on visual kerogen tests and Rock‐Eval pyrolysis, AR Formation (A, E, F, and G) are mixed oil‐ and gas‐prone source rocks with kerogens ranging from type II to type III, where A/R 'A and F' Members show dominant oil‐prone kerogen with the highest generative potential, while A/R 'E and G' Members are more gas‐prone kerogen. Most samples of the lower Kh Formation were interpreted as gas‐prone kerogen type III with low generative potential. On the other hand, the high amount of liptinite in the visual kerogen macerals is a strong indicator that the lower Petroleum Formation is an oil‐prone rather than gas‐prone source rock. The thermal maturity of the studied members increases consistently with depth, ranging from immature at the top of the AR Formation to the main/peak oil window at the base of the Lower Kharita Formation, which served as an active source rock for the hydrocarbons generated in the WBSB. The high value of the heat flow in the Beni Suef Basin (57 and 60 mW/m2) is a good indicator for the shallowing of the active source rock depth limit depth. From the study of the basin modeling, the main mature zone reached between 9811 and 11,090 ft in the middle of the Late Cretaceous (84.3–82.5 Ma) is through the L. Kharita Formation with three phases of hydrocarbon generation according to transformation ratio, where the second phase is the main stage in which TR is 5%–50%, showing the beginning of oil expulsion (Ro: 0.73%–0.78%, possibly 0.81%). Accurately locating deposited particles on the impaction plate of an inertial impactor is crucial for mineralogical and geochemical analysis. Since traditional methods relying on filter analysis are costly and time-consuming, this study delves into the numerical examination of the impact of nozzle-converging length (NCL) on the collection efficiency and depositional arrangements of various fine aerosol particles. Three distinct nozzle-converging lengths (NCL = 3, 7, and 13 mm) were simulated and rigorously compared for their performance in particle collection within an eight-nozzle inertial impactor PM 2.5 . Comprehensive analysis reveals that varying NCL does not significantly impact the collection efficiency of any investigated particle, with variations within 12% across all sizes in this study. Moreover, while NCL adjustments influence the settling ratio of primary depositions, these effects remain under 35% for all different-sized and shaped particles studied in this article. Furthermore, after examining 120 cases and averaging the collection efficiency for particles of a constant aerodynamic diameter, our findings indicate that the efficiency variations across the three distinct geometries remain under 5%. Consequently, we conclude that the head design of this impactor is independent from NCL. Notably, shorter NCLs result in denser particle accumulation near the nozzle outlet on the impaction plate, with this effect more pronounced for coarser particles. In summary, this research provides valuable insights into the role of nozzle-converging length in aerosol particle collection efficiency and deposition patterns, offering crucial guidance for particle classification and sampling methodologies eliminating the need for filter analysis. The bivalve mollusc Arctica islandica can live for hundreds of years, and its shell has provided a valuable resource for sclerochronological studies and geochemical analyses for understanding palaeoenvironmental change. Shell specimens recovered from the seabed need to be dated in order to aid sample selection, but existing methods using radiocarbon dating or cross-dating are both costly and time-consuming. We have investigated amino acid geochronology (AAG) as a potential alternative means of providing a less costly and more efficient range-finding method. In order to do this, we have investigated the complex microstructure of the shells, as this may influence the application of AAG. Each of the three microstructural layers of A. islandica have been isolated and their protein degradation examined (amino acid concentration, composition, racemization, and peptide bond hydrolysis). The intra-crystalline protein fraction was successfully extracted following oxidation treatment for 48 h, and high-temperature experiments at 140 °C established coherent breakdown patterns in all three layers, but the inner portion of the outer shell layer (iOSL) was the most appropriate component due to practicalities. Sampling of the iOSL layer in Holocene shells from early and late ontogeny (over 100–400 years) showed that the resolution of AAG is too low in A. islandica for within-shell age resolution. However, analysis of 52 subfossil samples confirmed that this approach could be used to establish a relative geochronology for this biomineral throughout the whole of the Quaternary. In the late Holocene the temporal resolution is ∼1500 –2000 years. Relative dating of 160 dredged shells of unknown age was narrowed down using AAG as a range finder, showing that a collection of shells from Iceland and the North Sea covered the middle Holocene, late Holocene, later and post-medieval (1171–1713 CE), and modern day. The mining production industry often leaves large quantities of mine spoil heaps exposed on the surface. The lack of monitoring of these discharges could create sources of pollution; the most common among them is acid mine drainage, which causes the contamination of the environment by heavy metals present in its solutions. Bouaazza’s mine, present in Taza province North-East Morocco, was known for lead and sulfide exploitation for many years, which contributed to the exposure of important quantities of acid spoil heaps on the surface. To assess the impact caused by acid mine drainage in Makhat’s stream plants, sediments, and plant samples were collected along the stream. Physicochemical results for sediments showed pH values below 6. Geochemical results for sediments indicated Pb concentrations higher than the World Surface Rock Average standards (16 ppm), with values over 3000 ppm. As for plants, the values found after ICP-AES analyses were higher than the WHO permissible limit (2 ppm). These results confirm the harmful impact of the lack of environmental monitoring while and after abandoning mining explorations, which leads to environmental disasters. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this study is to identify the main pollutants and evaluate the mechanisms of sediment transport from land to sea. This goal is justified by environmental pollution in the area associated with dredging and port activities. The objective is planned to be achieved by investigating the geochemical behavior of major and trace elements in fourteen surface sediment samples collected along the Moroccan Atlantic coast, from the mouth of the Lukkous River to the coast between the cities of Larache and Moulay Bousselam. k0-standardization method of neutron activation analysis using neutrons of the Moroccan Triga Mark II research reactor at the National Centre for Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology, has been used for analysis of collected sediment samples. The enrichment factor analysis revealed high levels of arsenic and chlorine, along with significant calcium enrichment, were found along the Atlantic coast. The enrichment factors (FE) for arsenic and chlorine are in the range of 20 < FE < 40, and for calcium, the FE is in the range of 5 < FE < 20. Conversely, some elements exhibited little to no enrichment, suggesting a crustal origin. PCA helped in synthesizing these findings, providing a clearer understanding of the spatial variations in sediment composition based on their multi-elemental signatures. The research examines surface sediments along the Moroccan Atlantic coast, revealing current contamination levels and geochemical behavior. These findings, applicable to similar coastal environments, are crucial for monitoring and managing sediment quality, especially in areas affected by erosion. Additionally, dredging and port activities in this region significantly disturb the sediments, resuspending contaminants and altering sediment composition, which further exacerbates pollution issues. Salinized lacustrine shale (SLS) represents a frontier in the global quest for unconventional hydrocarbon resources. The impact of terrigenous input, which includes terrigenous organic matter (OM) and detrital matter, on the deposition and hydrocarbon potential of SLS is still controversial. Here, we examine this issue using the newly discovered SLS within the Paleogene Biyang Depression, employing a combination of organic petrographic and geochemical analyses. A high influx of terrigenous input (terrigenous OM and detrital matter) promotes the formation of SLS. On the one hand, terrigenous higher plants emerge as the primary source of OM in the SLS, as indicated by the dominance of terrigenous macerals (e.g., terrigenous liptinite) and the abundance of plant-derived biomarkers (e.g., tricyclic terpanes). Additionally, a portion of the OM may originate from bacteria. On the other hand, the rapid input of detrital matter improves the preservation of OM, resulting in the deposition of SLS with high total organic carbon (TOC) contents and low hydrogen index (HI) values. Early diagenetic nodules with low permeable and weather-resistant structures are considered to be favorable for biosignature preservation. Numerous nodular structures forming in neutral-to-alkaline and saline diagenetic fluids were previously identified at Gale Crater on Mars, yet their astrobiological significance remains poorly understood. In the Mars-like western Qaidam Basin, China, there are a multitude of carbonate nodules which can be analogous to those found at Gale Crater on Mars in terms of their formation backgrounds and post-depositional processes. In this study, we combine microscopic, spectroscopic, and geochemical methods to characterize the biosignature preservation of the Qaidam nodules. Carbonaceous materials, including an organic annulus inferred to be a fossil spore or algal filament microfossil, are observed in the Qaidam nodules. The total organic carbon contents of the Qaidam nodules are slightly higher than those of the surrounding fluvio-lacustrine deposits, suggesting that early diagenesis of the Qaidam nodules might facilitate the rapid entombment of biomass within magnesium carbonate or aragonite matrixes before complete degradation. The carbonate matrix showing alternating micritic and sparry layers as well as enrichment of 13C could have a physicochemical origin though the possibilities of biomineralization and organomineralization cannot be entirely ruled out. The 1-1350/1,600 distribution of carbonaceous materials implies the existence of carbon precursors of various subcellular components or coexisting organisms in pore waters. Organic carbon isotopes indicate the carbon fixation pathways such as the Calvin cycle or the Wood-Ljungdahl pathway utilized by organisms in pore waters. The findings of this study shed light into the taphonomy and detection of biosignatures in terrestrial playa nodules, with potential applications for biosignature exploration on Mars. X-ray fluorescence (XRF) core scanners are commonly used for fine-scale geochemical analysis in sediment studies, but data are semi-quantitative and require calibration to convert geochemical element counts to concentrations. Application of XRF core scanning in soil science remains largely untapped. This study employed an ITRAX core scanner to scan grassland soil cores and developed a novel calibration method based on a chemometric approach to characterise soil geochemistry. As soil samples are collected based on depth sampling, this study investigated whether higher resolution element concentrations could be inferred from lower resolution reference samples and if regression models from multiple cores could apply to a new core at the same resolution. Reference concentrations were obtained for all cores at 10 cm intervals, with validation conducted at 1 cm for a single core. Two calibration curve types were proposed: one based on the single core's 10 cm data to validate references at 1 cm intervals; and another using all cores, with each core serving as a test item after exclusion from the training set. Various preprocessing measures and feature selection techniques were tested. Results showed successful calibration for elements Ca, P, Zn, Sr, and S, with high R 2 values of 0.94, 0.93, 0.93, 0.92 and 0.91, respectively. The quantitative estimation of key parameters of paleotemperature and paleoprecipitation is crucial for paleoclimate reconstruction. Geochemical data from modern sediments are highly consistent with climate data, and their relationship can provide an important reference for the quantitative reconstruction of the paleoclimate. In this study, detailed inorganic geochemical analysis was carried out using high-precision sampling of the Paleogene (LFD-1 well) Guchengzi, Jijuntun and Xiloutian Formations in the Fushun Basin located in the mid-latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere. The Eocene Guchengzi Formation (54.51–47.8 Ma) and Jijuntun Formation (47.8–41.2 Ma) in the Fushun Basin were found to have been deposited under a humid climate. The lower (41.2–40.1 Ma) and upper (40.1–37.8 Ma) parts of the Xiloutian Formation were characterized by semiarid and semihumid–semiarid climates, respectively, which is very similar to the paleoclimatic information reflected by organic carbon isotopes. The Eocene Thermal Maximum 2 (ETM2, ~ 53.7 Ma), Early Eocene Climatic Optimum (EECO, ~ 53.1–46.5 Ma, Eocene Thermal Maximum 3 (ETM 3, ~ 52.8 Ma), and Middle Eocene Climatic Optimum (MECO, ~ 40.7–40.1 Ma) events significantly enhanced chemical weathering during these periods. The rapid increase in pCO2 concentration leads to an increase in temperature, precipitation, and surface runoff, exhibiting strong chemical weathering. The mean annual temperature (MATa) and mean annual precipitation (MAPa, MAPb, and MAPc) were estimated using parameters, such as the corrosion index without potassium (CIA-K), CaO/Al2O3, and (Na2O + K2O)/Al2O3. Comparing MAPa, MAPb, and MAPc with the MAP estimated using pollen data, MAPa and MAPb were found to be more sensitive to the climate during high precipitation periods (precipitation > 1000 mm, Guchengzi Formation), and the recovered average precipitation was similar to MAP. In contrast, MAPc was more sensitive to the climate during low precipitation periods (precipitation < 1000 mm, Jijuntun, and Xiloutian Formations), with higher accuracy. To fully consider the influence of soluble inorganic salts Ca2+ and Na+, multivariate linear equations of CIA-K and CaO/Al2O3 with CIA, and CIA-K and CaO/Al2O3 with MAP were constructed, namely MAPd and MAPe. This study predicts favorable oil and gas source-rock formation conditions in the Aryskum Depression of the South Turgay Basin, Kazakhstan. This study assesses the thermal maturity and characteristics of organic matter by determining its environmental conditions using data from geochemical analysis of core (pyrolysis) and oil (biomarkers and carbon isotopic compositions) samples. According to the geochemical parameters obtained by pyrolysis, the oil generation potential of the original rocks of most studied samples varies from poor to rich. The facies–genetic organic matter is predominantly humic and less frequently humus–sapropel, indicating organic matter accumulation in the studied samples were under moderately reducing conditions (kerogen III and II types) and coastal–marine environments (kerogen type I). The carbon isotopic compositions of oils derived from the Jurassic deposits of the Aryskum Depression also indicate the sapropelic and mixed humic–sapropelic type of organic matter (kerogen II and I). In 2021, more than 50 paroxysmal episodes occurred at the South-East Crater (SEC) of Mt Etna, Italy. The 23–24 March lava fountain was one of the longest episodes and began with weak Strombolian explosions, gradually transitioning to lava fountaining. The eruption intensity then dropped more slowly than in previous episodes, resulting in pulsating Strombolian explosions dominated by ash emission. Thirty-four tephra samples were used to reconstruct the fallout dispersal and estimate the total erupted mass. Grain size, textural, petrological and geochemical analyses indicate different features and were compared with the gas phase (SO2 and HCl) in the volcanic plume. By applying stochastic global optimization to simulations of the temporal evolution of the eruption column height and tephra dispersal and deposition, the total erupted mass retrieved (6.76 × 108 kg) matches well the total erupted mass estimation by the ground-based deposit (8.03 ± 2.38 × 108 kg), reducing the column height throughout the episode from 6.44 to 4.5 km above sea level and resulting in a mass eruption rate ranging from 1.96 × 105 to 8.18 × 103 kg/s. The unusual duration of the March episode and the characteristics of the erupted products point to the change in explosive style and magma fragmentation from fountaining to ash emission phases, associated with a slower magma supply inducing a change in magma rheology and a final, prolonged ash generation. Furthermore, this study showed that using observational data and the variation in eruption source parameters for numerical simulations can improve the accuracy of predicting the dispersal plume, thus mitigating the potential impact of longer paroxysmal episodes. During the Late Cretaceous (Cenomanian), significant disruptions in the carbon cycle, global warming, and episodes of oceanic anoxia occurred, leading to the deposition of organic carbon-rich sediments. In well BED2-3, located in the BED2 gas field within the Abu Gharadig Basin (north Western Desert, Egypt), the lower-to-middle Cenomanian Bahariya Formation displays thick alternating layers of sandstones, siltstones, and shales. Detailed geochemical analyses were conducted on thirty-three cutting samples from the Bahariya Formation, focusing on total organic carbon (TOC), whole-rock elemental geochemistry, and carbonate content. These geochemical measurements provided valuable information regarding paleoredox conditions, marine biological productivity, terrigenous sediment influx, weathering and paleoclimate conditions, and mechanisms influencing organic matter accumulation. The enrichment factors (EF) of redox-sensitive trace elements were utilized to infer oxygenation conditions and marine biological productivity during the deposition of the Bahariya Formation. The stratigraphic distribution of redox-sensitive elements allowed for the Bahariya Formation to be categorized into lower and middle-upper intervals. The results revealed that the lower interval exhibited strong-to-enriched EF values of redox-sensitive elements and fair-to-rich TOC content, indicating a prevalent anoxic setting during deposition. In contrast, the middle-upper interval displayed weakly-to-slightly enriched EF values with poor-to-fair TOC content, suggesting deposition under oxic-suboxic redox conditions. By examining Al-normalized redox-sensitive ratios and their correlations with TOC content, significant relationships were observed in the lower interval, indicating a coupling between the enrichment of redox-sensitive elements and organic matter. This suggests enhanced biological productivity during deposition of the lower interval compared to the relatively low productivity during deposition of the middle-upper interval of the formation. These conditions controlled the production and preservation of organic matter in the lower interval, while the middle-upper interval suffered from organic matter dilution and destruction due to an increased influx of terrigenous material and lower biological productivity. Geochemical proxies related to detrital materials provided evidence of alternating terrigenous sediment flux, consistent with shifts between coarse- and fine-grained fractions and related facies of sandstones, siltstones, and shales. These findings align with active continental weathering in the source terrane and deposition under enhanced warm-humid climatic conditions, with intermittent arid-to-semi-arid phases. The paper presents new data on a comparative analysis of sedimentary rocks from the Mendeleev Rise (Shamshura Seamount), presumably, of the Triassic age with the Aptian sandstones obtained by the underwater sampling of the Alpha–Mendeleev Rise during expeditions in 2012, 2014, and 2016. The geochemical characteristics of rocks are very similar, and the data from different-age samples form common fields on various diagrams. Petrographic studies revealed that the sandstones of presumably Late Triassic age, as well as the sandstones of Chukotka and Wrangel Island, are dominated by fragments of shale and felsic effusives. The Aptian samples are dominated by mafic rock fragments. In addition, sharp differences are observed in the age spectra of detrital zircon populations, indicating fundamentally different provenances for the Triassic and Cretaceous sandstones on the Alpha–Mendeleev Rise. Samples from the Shamshura Seamount are characterized by populations similar to those from Triassic rocks of Chukotka and Wrangel Island, suggesting the presence of Triassic rocks in this part of the Mendeleev Rise. The sedimentary sequence of the Ninama Basin is associated with the latest phase of the continental Deccan volcanism of the Indian peninsula. It occurs as inter-, intratrappeans with a 39-m thick sequence comprising Sukhbhadar Formation and Ninama Limestone. The investigation aims to reconstruct its depositional setting based on the lithofacies and inorganic geochemistry to understand the influence of paleosalinity, paleoredox, paleodepth, provenance and paleoclimate on the sedimentation pattern. It is characterized by clastic and chemically formed rocks, including shale, mudstone, siltstone, sandstone and limestone. Facies analysis has revealed seven lithofacies, amongst which four are clastic facies, shale (SH), calcareous shale (CSH), silty mudstone (SM) and lithic greywacke (LGW), and three are carbonate facies, namely, grey-black limestone (GBL), cherty limestone (CL) and marlite (ML). Using geochemical analysis of major oxides and trace elements, ratios of Ca/(Ca+Fe), Sr/Ba, V/(V+Ni), V/Cr, Fe/(Ca+Mg), Ti/Al, Na/K, K/(Fe+Mg), CIA-K and MAP were determined and used to interpret and note the changes in the depositional system. The combined results of the lithofacies and geochemistry indicate that the deposition occurred in three phases. Phase 1 is characterized by high energy conditions in the shallow to moderate depth brackish-saline lake with oxic to dysoxic conditions; Phase 2 is characterized by anoxic deep fresh to the brackish water basin; and Phase 3 is characterized by semiarid conditions, saline, anoxic waters, high evaporation leading to shallowing of the lake, and low to moderate terrestrial input. This lacustrine basin in the paleotopographic low of the Deccan Volcanic Province is characterized by distinct lithology governed by various depositional parameters. A composite depositional model is constructed for the Ninama Basin, reflecting three phases of evolution that are dominantly controlled by the paleoenvironment. Research highlights: The present study focuses on lithofacies and inorganic geochemical analysis of Ninama paleolake sediments, Saurashtra intertrappeans, to interpret their paleosalinity, paleoredox, water depth, provenance, detrital influx, and paleoclimate. Phase 1 deposition was initiated in paleotopographic low of Deccan Traps, in an oxic–dysoxic, high-energy turbulent brackish water environment, in humid conditions. Phase 2 characterizes fine-grained clastic facies deposited in anoxic, fresh-brackish, deep lake waters in humid conditions. Phase 3 marks the shallowing, evident by carbonate facies with low-moderate terrestrial input deposited in saline and anoxic paleolake in semiarid conditions with high evaporation and low-moderate precipitation. The Tashisayi Li deposit was newly discovered in the eastern part of the Tashisayi batholith, located in the Altyn Tagh region of Northwest China. A Li-rich composite pegmatite-aplite dyke (γ02) displays superimposed relationships among different Li-bearing phases, including lepidolite-albite-quartz pegmatite (LAQ), spodumene-albite-quartz pegmatite (SAQ), and aplite. The timing and conditions of magmatism and Li mineralization in the Tashisayi remain enigmatic. The study involved field observations, U–(Th)–Pb dating of columbite-group minerals (CGM), zircon, and monazite, and geochemical analyses of CGM and quartz. U–Pb dating of CGM of the γ02 dyke revealed formation ages of 471.6±3.5 Ma (LAQ), 439.6±5.0 Ma (SAQ), and 416.3±4.8 Ma (aplite). Zircon U-Pb and monazite U-(Th)-Pb dating of biotite granite, pegmatitic aplite, and muscovite granite yielded ages of ca. 473 Ma, 439 Ma, and 425 Ma, respectively. The dating results indicate that the rare-metal pegmatites and granites in the Tashisayi area were emplaced during various periods from the Early Ordovician to Early Devonian, consistent with other rare-metal deposits in the Tugeman region. The textural and geochemical analyses on the CGM and quartz reveal that the LAQ, SAQ and aplite crystallized from highly evolved magmas under water-poor and relatively low temperature conditions, experiencing distinct evolution trend and forming processes. Additionally, both LAQ and SAQ were influenced by fluid or magma activities and the pegmatitic melt forming LAQ could enrich both Li and Sn. Extensive tectonic events in the Altyn Tagh Orogen, including ocean basin closure and continental collisions, promote the development of Li-rich granitic magmas. Thus, we argue that the multiple magmatic and Li mineralization events in the Tashisayi area are most likely originated from the melting of Proterozoic crustal materials, and the process was controlled by tectonic interactions between the Central Altyn, Southern Altyn, Northern Altyn, and Eastern Kunlun blocks. Groundwater contamination in the Mediterranean Basin is a severe problem that has a significant impact on environmental ecosystems and human health. The unconventional uranium and the potentially toxic elements (PTEs) of phosphate rocks are the principal contaminants in the phosphate mining industry in Tunisia. Phosphogypsum (PG) results from the valorization of phosphate to fertilizers and phosphoric acid. PG stocks can be used in cement production, brick manufacturing, and soil amendments in desertic land, and can be resolved by using nanomaterial adsorbents. In the flat area of the study area, the increase in radioactivity (40K) is due to abusive fertilizer use. Geochemical and radiological analyses in the northern part of Tunisia and its karst shallow aquifer indicate significant contamination levels. The northern part exhibits moderate contamination, whereas the karst shallow aquifer shows higher contamination levels, particularly with elevated nitrate concentrations. In the phosphate basin, both washing phosphate and phosphogypsum reveal high levels of radioactive elements, with the latter showing especially high concentrations of radium. The shallow aquifer in this region has moderate contamination levels, while the deep geothermal aquifer also shows noticeable contamination but to a lesser degree compared to the shallow aquifer. The shallow groundwater is characterized by a higher value of radioactivity than the groundwater due to the contamination impact from the phosphate industry and the cumulative radioactivity disintegration. Finally, the nanoparticles and the electrostatic adsorption can decrease the PTEs and radionuclides from the contaminated water in the study area. Moreover, other key issues for advancing research on groundwater contamination are proposed in this study. It is time to valorize this PG and the other mines of (Fe, Pb, and Zn) in the socioeconomic sector in Tunisia and to minimize the environmental impact of the industrial sector's extraction on groundwater and human health in the study area. The Middle Atlas hosts calcite veins of considerable economic value, being found in the Mahdi and Bou Naceur ridges in the eastern part of the Moroccan Middle Atlas. In this study, we aim to identify the fundamental factors controlling mineralization, which could be essential for the exploration of calcite minerals. Jurassic dolomites and limestones host calcite deposits. Mineralization is controlled by the NE-SW sinistral fault system of the Mahdi Ridge as well as by the NW-SE dextral fault system of the Bou Naceur Ridge. These veins exhibit a Riedel shear system. The edges of the veins display different textures, such as banded and brecciated calcite. At the heart of the veins are deposits of massive, automorphic, pure crystalline calcite. Geochemical analyses revealed carbonate rock dissolution and carbonate fluid infiltration, indicating the presence of a low-temperature hydrothermal system. These mineralizations are a response to the evolution of the geodynamic uplift of the Middle Atlas during the Neogene, which occurred during the Alpine orogeny. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
