Background: Turnover intention (TI) indicates an employee's intention to depart from their current role within a defined timeframe. In China, the Targeted Admission Medical Education (TAME) program, initiated in 2010, offers tuition-free education to cultivate rural doctors. Despite continuous professional development (CPD) being considered a viable retention strategy, TI of alumni doctors from the TAME program remains high in recent years. This study aims to describe the prevalence of "turnover intention" among alumni doctors of the TAME program doctors in rural placements, and associated factors that predict high turnover intention. Methods: A snowball sampling method was adopted to collect survey responses from 1,369 alumni doctors of the TAME program in Jiangxi Province, China. Based on the survey data, a binary variable was constructed to measure the turnover intention, and multivariate binary logistic regression models were used to investigate the relationship between doctors' turnover intention and demographic characteristics, work environment characteristics, and CPD activities. Results were presented using adjusted odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals. Results: Among the 1,369 alumni doctors of the TAME program surveyed in this study, 392 (28.6%) expressed intentions to leave their current positions. Of the respondents, 620 (45.3%) were female, and 930 (67.9%) were married. Additionally, 1,232 respondents (90%) indicated that their fathers were engaged in farm work. Strong associations with turnover intention were notably found among individuals who had undergone training at a higher-level healthcare institution for more than three months (aOR = 6.810, 95% CI: 3.333 to 13.909, p-value < 0.001), particularly those who had participated in CPD through a graduate degree program (aOR = 1.818, 95% CI: 1.272 to 2.597, p-value < 0.001). Conclusion: Rural doctors in China from the tuition-free medical education program exhibit high turnover intention, especially those in graduate degree programs as CPD. To retain these highly qualified rural doctors, it is vital to offer competitive efficiency wages aligned with their skills and provide ample long-term career growth opportunities within the rural healthcare system. This quasi‐experiment examines the self‐assessment of psychological empowerment in the workplace among humanities and social science graduates who completed one of four digital literacy courses and were employed in the business services sector 6 months after graduation. The four courses—information literacy, data literacy, visual literacy, and communication and collaboration—were designed using information literacy and digital skills frameworks and were offered to support students' employability. Psychological empowerment was measured with four dimensions: meaning, competence, self‐determination, and impact. Statistical inference with a probabilistic approach using Bayesian ANOVA was conducted. The four courses varied in their impact on empowerment, with the information literacy course corresponding to the highest empowerment scores. The training also related differentially to the four dimensions of empowerment, with the highest scores on meaning. Evidence indicates that digital literacy instruction supports the psychological empowerment of humanities and social science graduates employed in the business services sector. The North American Muslim population is growing rapidly, but little research has been conducted to help social workers interact with members of this population in a culturally sensitive manner. To assist social workers engage with Muslims in an ethical and effective manner, this qualitative study sought to answer the following questions: how do Muslims experience interactions with non-Muslims and what have they learned from their encounters that might facilitate positive interactions? To answer these two questions, we used narrative inquiry with a sample of 10 Muslim social work students and recent alumni. The findings suggest that Muslims may be treated either positively or negatively by non-Muslims in interactions in various contexts, that they are frequently unable to voice their religious perspectives, and that their religious difference is often portrayed in single-sided or negative ways as well as prioritized against their wishes while ignoring other aspects of their social identities. As a result, many tend to avoid interactions with non-Muslims. The paper offers strategies to foster more respectful interactions with Muslims, such as attending to how much their religious difference is prioritized, and providing opportunities to share their perspectives. This article presents an approach to encounter group interventions in the midst of protracted, entrenched conflict, that has relational resilience as its focus. Through a constructionist grounded theory analysis, interviews with 31 alumni of the Artsbridge program from 2008 through 2019, former staff, and parents of alumni, were analyzed in order to explore how they understand their experience of the Artsbridge program and the impact it has had on their lives. This analysis of interviews led to the primary theme of relational resilience. The Artsbridge model of relational resilience will be introduced. While many programs exist that work with youth in conflict, the Artsbridge program is unique in its use of Transformative Reflecting Dialogue, artistic modalities, and collaborative art. Through decades of violence and separation, Israeli and Palestinian narratives have become negatively interdependent and mutually exclusive. Artsbridge methodology encourages the development of more inclusive narratives and an appreciation of and tolerance for complexity. The research discussed in this article suggests that encouraging the development of relational resilience may lead to more constructive and sustainable outcomes when working within communities continuing to live in the midst of intractable conflict. Background: The purpose of this qualitative study was to evaluate the effects of curricular changes made to foster graduate students' understanding of how they can be catalysts of change. For more than a decade, the concept of the citizen nurse has been woven into coursework in nursing education, thus indicating an evaluation process was needed. Method: Ten oral history interviews were completed with current students or alumni. Data were analyzed for codes, allowing the final themes to emerge. Results: Two main themes emerged. Students reported (1) having a new understanding of what it means to be a nurse and (2) feeling more prepared to take action. Background: Postgraduate fellowship training for nurse practitioners (NP) in palliative care can ameliorate workforce shortages; however, currently there are few NP fellowships and little evidence about outcomes, such as retention in hospice and palliative nursing, job satisfaction, or professional contributions. Objective: To describe the impact of palliative care fellowship training on the careers of NP alumni. Methods: A survey was electronically distributed to all NP alumni of an interprofessional palliative care fellowship since adult and pediatric nursing cohorts were added (2009–2022). Results: Most respondents still worked in hospice and/or palliative care; a majority of them engaged in professional activities beyond clinical work and reported high career satisfaction. Alumni endorsed multiple benefits of postgraduate fellowship except for post-fellowship compensation. Conclusions: NP palliative care fellowship alumni reported multiple career benefits including job satisfaction, professional accomplishment, and ongoing employment at their training institutions. This article will consider the Oxford Centre for Mission Studies as 'a tradition of inquiry and a coherent 'movement of thought'. The article follows OCMS's development of mission studies over the past 40 years. It is based upon personal experience as well as on interviews with founders, academic officers, faculty, alumni, and current students: primarily in the OCMS PhD programme, but not exclusively. Scholars in critical masculinities studies argue that we need men involved and engaged in gender equity movements for gender justice to be realised. Yet we need to know more about how different groups of men are understanding gender equity and what the barriers might be. Amidst significant media interest in elite private boys' schooling and its possible (re)production of sexist cultures, this paper explores how 13 men who attended such schools in Australia between the 1970s and the 2000s understand gender justice, revealing a diversity of positions and practices across the different generational groups. We argue the men's engagements with gender justice are shaped by a broad 'curriculum of privilege' including school and non-school based experiences that mediates their lives. International education scholarships can be significant interventions at times of conflict and peace. Extant research in International Relations and in International Education begins to demonstrate this significance but predominantly in neo-liberal terms of human capital import, North-facing cosmopolitanism, and Western-style democratization and global (economic) integration. This is valuable framing, but it misses more complex political effects of scholarships as conflict and peace interventions. This paper presents empirical evidence illuminating the need for a broader ontology in researching the potential contribution of scholarships to peace. The paper draws on qualitative data collected from 32 Palestinian scholarship alumni and alumnae, sampling a national group nowhere to be found in scholarly or policy works dealing with international education and conflict/peace. Developed through a critical realist thematic analysis of the collected data, the experiential findings reported here show strong perceived gains in the research participants' critical reflexivization and domestic and global (re)socialization of their sense of national identity and awareness. An interdisciplinary discussion of these gains demonstrates that scholarships may represent deep and significant advocacy and capacity-building interventions in the contexts of conflict, with these interventions spanning the humanitarian, development, and, to a lesser extent, political spheres. The discussion is concluded with a reflection on the methodological-conceptual challenge these findings outline to framing international education impacts in only neo-liberal terms. Overall, this paper contributes a timely Global South perspective to inform critical thought and practice of international scholarships for Palestinians and other conflict-affected groups/nations. In modern organizations, key sources of competitive advantage are embedded in employees. Management theory has traditionally viewed employee exit as the end of firms' relationships with employees and, consequently, the end of access to human capital and other resources embedded in departing individuals. However, recent research suggests that firms can benefit from the continuation of relationships with alumni employees. We argue that how organizations create and maintain connections to alumni is critical, as it shapes the nature of potentially valuable organization-level alumni resources. We develop a theory of firm value capture from alumni that explains how firms' norms and policies before, during, and after employee exit affect firms' alumni relations climate—a shared perception among a firm's current and former employees that the firm values alumni. We further theorize that the alumni relations climate will lead to creation of firm-level alumni resources, with the configuration of these resources shaped by alumni identification. That is, the extent to which firms' alumni identify with the firm versus with members of the firm's remaining workforce (or balanced between the two) will have implications for the configuration of alumni resources that are potentially accessible to the firm. Our theory describes how these different alumni resource configurations come with inherent benefits and costs when it comes to the value that firms are able to capture from their alumni resources. The UCLA Folklore & Mythology Group inspired the author plus afellow alumna to plan daunting media projects. As older students, they were totally accepted and empowered by faculty and classmates involved with innovative projects. The two women contacted mothers of Steven Spielberg and Vidal Sassoon; they conducted interviews in a department store window at Hollywood and Vine; the NEH and NEAfunded them. Engaging respectfully with individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, genderqueer, or gender-nonconforming (LGBTQ+) is an ethical imperative. To help social workers fulfill this obligation, this study explored the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ people regarding their interactions with people outside the LGBTQ+ community, and what LGBTQ+ people desire for future interactions. Narrative interviews were conducted with 11 LGBTQ+ social work graduate students and alumni to explore (a) their self-reported experiences engaging in one-on-one and small group interactions with outgroup members throughout their lives and (b) the meaning they gleaned from their life experiences across various domains (e.g. work, family, education) that might improve future interactions. Analysis produced six storylines that can be summarized as (1) unbalanced depictions of difference, (2) avoiding interactions, (3) managing positive treatment of an identity, (4) restricting certain perspectives, (5) focusing on differences, and (6) the importance of seeing humanity. The findings suggest several strategies for interacting with LGBTQ+ people in a more culturally sensitive way including discussing the LGBTQ+ community in a nuanced manner (as opposed to monolithically) and considering the level of attention paid to individuals' sexual orientation and gender identity. The Japanese government established the Foreign Technical Intern and Training Program (TITP) for developing countries, enabling trainees from these countries to improve technology, skills, and practical knowledge in an actual work environment and apply their skills when they return home. However, due to issues including improper wage payments and overwork, this approach has received harsh criticism from human rights organizations inside and outside Japan. Previous research has primarily focused on the negative aspects of this program, with little emphasis placed on its positive impacts. TITP is considered critical for Indonesia because it provides high-paying jobs for "unskilled" youth, accounting for more than half of the unemployed population. This research aimed to summarize the current general condition of the TITP, classify the different programs under TITP, and compare the socio-economic conditions of the alumni after finishing TITP and returning to Indonesia. Based on the findings, we can assert that the TITP in the agriculture sector has attracted TITP alumni to pursue a career in agriculture, thereby contributing to an increase in young farmers, desperately needed to ensure the future of Indonesia's agriculture. The majority of alumni became farmer entrepreneurs. The average income of TITP alumni working in the agriculture sector was found to be more than three times that of the average Indonesian farmer's monthly income. The main programs realized under the TITP and reviewed in the current study included the Industrial Training Program (ITP) and the Technical Intern Program (TIP). These programs were compared with the NT Farm (NTF) in Fukui, which is recognized for its exceptional training methodology, including entrepreneurship development training. Background: A clinical preceptor (CP) provides the vital link to apply didactic learning in clinical practice for nurse practitioner (NP) students. A nationwide shortage of CPs continues. The goal of this pilot project was to evaluate a model for developing preceptors from the school of nursing alumni that addressed modifiable academic barriers to precepting. Method: Six NP alumni from the school of nursing participated in a comprehensive novice CP training program based on Kolb's experiential learning theory and unparalleled faculty support through regularly scheduled contact. Pre- and posttests, site visits, and focus groups were used to assess the participants' progress. Results: Participants' self-reported ability to teach and manage time when working with NP students improved, and 83.9% showed improved knowledge of precepting skills. Conclusion: Foundational skills and communication are essential elements to support novice CPs. This support may enhance both student and CP experience as well as increase retention of CPs. The authors explore how career paths are shaped by the involvement of search firms in hiring. Drawing on theories of market intermediation, they argue that search firms constrain horizontal moves across functions and industries by favoring workers from within the same function and industry as the role being filled. Using survey data on 1,342 job moves undertaken by 816 MBA alumni, the authors find that individuals who move jobs through a search firm experience lower horizontal mobility than those who move through other means. Findings also suggest that these results are not driven by firms' decisions to use a search firm to fill the job. Supplementary analyses show no evidence that the job matches that are formed using search firms result in a better fit between workers and employers. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death worldwide, but prevalence estimates in former professional athletes are limited. HUDDLE (Heart Health: Understanding and Diagnosing Disease by Leveraging Echocardiograms) aimed to raise awareness and estimate the prevalence of CVD and associated risk factors among members of the National Football League (NFL) Alumni Association and their families through education and screening events. HUDDLE was a multicity, cross-sectional study of NFL alumni and family members aged 50 years and older. Subjects reported their health history and participated in CVD education and screening (blood pressure, electrocardiogram, and transthoracic echocardiogram [TTE] assessments). Phone follow-up by investigators occurred 30 days postscreening to review results and recommendations. This analysis focuses on former NFL athletes. Of 498 participants screened, 57.2% (N = 285) were former NFL players, the majority of whom were African American (67.6%). The prevalence of hypertension among NFL alumni was estimated to be 89.8%, though only 37.5% reported a history of hypertension. Of 285 evaluable participants, 61.8% had structural cardiac abnormalities by TTE. Multivariable analysis showed that hypertension was a significant predictor of clinically relevant structural abnormalities on TTE. HUDDLE identified a large discrepancy between participant self-awareness and actual prevalence of CVD and risk factors, highlighting a significant opportunity for population health interventions. Graduates of industrial hygiene training (IH) programs must be able to meet continuously evolving health and safety needs in a wide variety of occupational settings. Therefore, academic IH graduate programs must regularly evaluate their curricula and solicit input from industry professionals to make curricular changes that will better prepare their students for professional roles in industry. The purpose of this study was to identify the training gaps that existed between industry needs and the current curriculum for a United States-accredited IH graduate training program. The research team facilitated two group interviews with the IH program advisory board, collected alumni survey data, and performed a qualitative analysis to identify skills gaps/needs for the IH Program graduates. The research team identified 3 themes from participant interviews and alumni surveys (technical, applied, and essential skills) and selected several skills within each theme that interview participants thought were necessary proficiencies for junior IH professionals. The skills identified in the qualitative interview and survey data can be incorporated into the curriculum to improve the training of IH graduate students. Additionally, by using qualitative analysis, the researchers uncovered essential skills previously unidentified in IH needs assessments, providing valuable information for all IH graduate programs. Alumni engagement plays a crucial role in driving innovation in university-based entrepreneurship ecosystems. We employ an inductive, informant-centric research design to explore the processual dynamics surrounding the early alumni engagement of entrepreneurship graduates and how these translate into enterprising behaviors that foster technology transfer and knowledge-intensive entrepreneurship. Our inductive analysis advances the theoretical understanding of the beginning phases of the alumni engagement process among entrepreneurship graduates, the key drivers that make them gravitate toward different forms of alumni engagement, and the role and impact of their engagement in the surrounding ecosystem. Background: Little is known about hybrid PhD nursing students' experiences. Method: The purpose of this study was to describe and analyze the experiences of PhD nursing students in a hybrid program using a convergent mixed methods design. Recent nursing PhD alumni (n = 18), and current PhD students (n = 4) were recruited at a research-intensive university in the southwestern United States. Results: Four metainferences were identified: (1) the facilitator of faculty as both advisors and mentors; (2) the facilitator of peers as support, motivation, and a source of advice that preceded advisors; (3) the barrier of receiving conflicting feedback from advisory and dissertation committees; and (4) the barrier of not understanding the PhD student process. Conclusion: Peer support is fundamental for hybrid PhD nursing student success; conflicting feedback and not understanding the process are significant barriers. Evidence from psychology and finance links facial characteristics to cognitive and non-cognitive abilities in males. Specifically, prenatal testosterone increases facial masculinity and mathematical aptitude, while circulating testosterone increases facial-width-to-height ratios (fWHRs) and effort in status-seeking behavior. To explore how these associations might influence college admissions, we analyze photos from 450 online social media profiles of alumni from 30 randomly selected Chinese universities ranked 1–200. Notably, Chinese universities use standardized tests almost exclusively for admissions. Thus, the rank of the college of alumni can serve as a measure of mathematical ability and effort in test preparation, and, thereby, the influences of testosterone. Supporting the influence of prenatal testosterone, alumni in "Hard" (i.e., mathematical) majors at high-ranked colleges exhibit significantly higher attractiveness. Supporting the circulating testosterone hypothesis, the fWHRs of alumni in all majors increase with college ranking. A comparison group of US alumni admitted on additional criteria showed no significant associations between facial features and college rank. These results suggest that college admissions based solely on standardized tests may introduce a non-uniform distribution of facial characteristics across universities, which is counteracted by admissions based on other criteria in the US. During the COVID-19 pandemic, both teachers and students underwent significant adaptation and flexibility in higher education courses. The literature documenting these experiences has grown extensively, with educators highlighting challenges and opportunities in distance learning formats. These reports are crucial to understanding how forced adaptations resulted in more productive activities for students than we had thought of before. These experiences also hold fundamental importance for deriving insights for the future, serving as valuable lessons for colleagues to draw inspiration from and apply them to their disciplines. This article describes an experience developed in an introductory Marketing subject that, due to university directives, adopted a blended learning regime during COVID-19. What started as a problem turned into an opportunity. An alumni engagement activity was devised to enhance student motivation -- an undertaking that would have been challenging in an exclusively classroom-based setting. This activity became essential, elevating student motivation, promoting new experiences, facilitating networking, and encouraging collaborative work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: We sought to understand the relative impact of fielding mode on response rate among public health alumni. Methods: As part of the 2021 Career Trends Survey of alumni from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health, we designed a fielding mode experiment to ascertain whether a paper survey, a postcard with a custom survey link ("postcard push-to-web"), a mobile telephone call or text (mobile), or an email invitation would garner the highest response rates. Invitations were randomly assigned from available contact information. Results: Of 8531 alumni invited, 1671 alumni (19.6%) completed the survey. Among the initial fielding modes, the paper survey had the highest response rate (28%), followed by mobile (19%), email (10%), and postcard push-to-web (10%). More robust recent engagement with alumni relations, paper survey invitation or mode switch, and recent graduation were all significantly associated with a higher likelihood of response. Conclusions: Paper and mobile invitations had the highest response rates to our survey among public health alumni. Findings from this fielding mode experiment are relevant to schools and programs of public health seeking to capture similar information among their alumni, especially given current trends in investment in the public health workforce. This article presents selected results from a large‐scale, mixed‐methods, federally funded investigation of US‐based language study‐abroad alumni of all ages, which included a nationwide survey (N = 4,899) followed by professional life history interviews with 54 participants. Here, we focus on three questions heretofore unaddressed: (a) How do these alumni continue to use their additional languages? (b) How is long‐term language use associated with various study‐abroad program features? and (c) How is the role of program features reflected in life history narratives? We found that 79% of participants use their languages in at least one of the activities listed on the survey, though this use is generally confined to informal, interactive tasks. Our examination of program features using multiple regression revealed that while all features were statistically significant predictors for long‐term language use, those involving engagement with local communities (e.g., close personal relationships) showed more relative importance. Contextualized with a sample of our qualitative data, findings from this study offer a macrolevel confirmation that local engagement during study abroad retains its significance for language use over the long term and provide implications for designing study‐abroad programs that involve language learning. As universities become more complex, diverse, and resource constrained, understanding the president's impact on fundraising becomes increasingly important. Applying the broad framework of institutional theory, and drawing from social identity, self-categorization, and philanthropic mirroring theories, this study explores the relationship between the prior position of a president, specifically whether a president ascended to the presidency through a traditional academic pathway or from outside of academia, and alumni participation in fundraising. We model the prior position of the president as a social identity which becomes salient to prospective donors through activation of in-group self-categorization. We posit that, in turn, this in-group categorization triggers positive alignment with and perceptions of the president resulting in validation and credibility creating higher levels of giving; hence, prior position serves as a predictor of alumni giving. We test this hypothesis with secondary data from a sample of presidents from 85 institutions over an eight-year period. Findings show that alumni giving as a percentage of total giving is higher on average when the president's prior position was outside of academia. This means that the ratio of alumni donations as compared to all philanthropic revenue from all sources is higher when a non-academic president is in office. This interview showcases the experience that Colombian film director and editor Felipe Guerrero had at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (CSC) in Rome, where he specialized in film editing from 1996 to 1999. Guerrero is widely known for his several film and television productions from all over the world, as well as for his five credits as a film director who has been fundamental to the revitalization of contemporary Colombian and Latin American cinema (from 1999 to the present; he is currently writing his second feature-length fiction film, entitled 1948). In this interview, Felipe Guerrero speaks about the meaningful experience he had at CSC for his career as a filmmaker and underlines how honoured he was to be among the few filmmakers accepted at the CSC during the 1990s. For over two decades, gender differences in the propensity to negotiate have been thought to explain the gender pay gap. We ask whether a "women don't ask" pattern holds today among working adults. We compare estimates of gender differences in negotiation propensity (Study 1) with actual patterns from master's in business administration students (n = 1,435) and alumni (n = 1,939) from a top U.S. business school (Studies 2A and 2B). Contrary to lay beliefs, women report negotiating their salaries more (not less) often than men. We then reanalyze meta-analytic data on self-reported initiation of salary negotiations to reconcile our findings with prior work (Study 2C). While men reported higher negotiation propensity than women prior to the 21st century, the gender difference has grown neutral and then reversed since then. Negotiation propensity rose across time for both men and women, although to differing degrees. Finally, we explore the consequences of the now-outdated belief that "women don't ask," finding that it increases gender stereotyping, even on dimensions unrelated to negotiation, and it is associated with both greater system justification and weaker support for legislation addressing pay equity (Studies 3 and 4). Narrative Career Therapy (NCT) is recognised in this paper as having relevance for career practitioners who are working to create meaning for their clients in complex work life situations. Re-authoring Career Narratives is described as a practice that involves principles of NCT and these principles contribute to the exploration of agentive development. Re-authoring Career Narratives is demonstrated to support clients to navigate the reality that career learning is lifelong and evolving. We propose that a NCT requires practitioners to place emphasis on the contexts in which discourse is developed which can facilitate greater awareness of a client's career identity and capacity to navigate uncertainty. We use a narrative research approach to explore how re-authoring practices assist clients to make career decisions. We recommend that re-authoring practices assist clients to reconstruct their stories and to gain insight into career identity as an evolving contextual phenomenon responsive to changing career and work landscapes. Research investigating elite schools has highlighted how students within these learning environments embody and naturalise their privilege through discourses of merit, hard work, and innate talent and skill. However, relatively little is known about how privilege, and its associated discourses, moves with students beyond the school gate and into adulthood. In this paper we present accounts from elite boys' school alumni to interrogate how they mediate representations of Self as morally 'good and sincere'. The active disavowal of the elite education experience, and deferral of culpability from the cultural practices of these institutions feature in these accounts. In particular, the paper explores the strategies used to reconcile aspects of the elite boys' school experience. We argue that these practices of disavowal and deferred culpability provide a degree of personal and professional mobility, from which the cultivation of a positive sense of self as a 'good' man emerges. Background: Postsecondary education can provide opportunities for students from traditionally hidden populations like those who have experienced foster care or homelessness. To assist these students, campus support programs (CSPs) provide a wide range of services and activities. Objective: Evidence of the impact of CSPs is limited, and little is known about how students who were involved in CSPs fare at or after graduation. This study seeks to address these gaps in knowledge. Methods: This mixed-methods study surveyed 56 young people involved in a CSP for college students who have experienced foster care, relative care, or homelessness. Participants completed surveys at graduation, 6 months post-graduation, and one-year post-graduation. Results: At graduation, over two-thirds of the students felt completely (20.4%) or fairly (46.3%) prepared for life after graduation. Most felt completely (37.0%) or fairly confident (25.9%) that they would get a job after graduation. Six months after graduation, 85.0% of the graduates were employed, with 82.2% working at least full-time. 45% of the graduates were enrolled in graduate school. These numbers were similar a year after graduation. Post-graduation, participants described areas of their lives that were going well, obstacles and hardships faced, changes they would like to see in their lives, and post-graduation needs. Across these areas themes were present in the areas of finances, work, relationships, and resilience. Conclusions: Institutions of higher education and CSP should assist students with a history of foster care, relative care, and homelessness to ensure that after graduation, they have adequate money, employment, and support. Organized out-of-school time (OST) activities are critical assets that help youth develop life and social skills. Latine youth have some of the lowest rates of participation in OST activities out of all racial and ethnic subgroups due to structural and interpersonal barriers that perpetuate and reproduce patterns of inequality. The purpose of the current study was to describe a youth-led, community-driven, sport-based positive youth development program, the Los Angeles Football Club Youth Leadership Program, and examine associations with participation across three levels: (1) alumni's enrollment and employment outcomes; (2) youth leaders' outcomes (e.g. pre- and postprogram surveys); and (3) outputs of the program's community outreach efforts (e.g. demographics and outputs associated with youth-led community-based activities). Drawing on the study's findings, authors argue that this program describes an emergent "ladder to leadership" model that can guide community engagement through the delivery of culturally responsive programming and the use of sport to support social–emotional learning during OST. Sensitivity to cross-cultural management and ethics management have both been classified as important relationship-building competencies, with prior work also recognizing the need for MBA instructors to not only teach both competencies but to act as role models to their students. The twofold purpose of this paper was to first develop a short, reliable Perceived Utility of Ethical and Cross-Cultural Competencies (PUECCC) scale by combining items measuring both competencies learned or practiced in a client-focused, team-based MBA capstone course. The second purpose was to test the relationship of a career-enhancing behavioral measure to PUECCC. Three binary behaviors, i.e., job interview, professional network expansion, and career change composed the career-enhancing behavioral measure. Using two separate samples of MBA capstone course alumni, support was found for a reliable two-item PUECCC scale and a significant positive relationship of the career-enhancing behavioral measure to PUECCC. Years of professional experience for both samples was also positively related to PUECCC. Ethical management and cross-cultural effectiveness are both important competencies to build into a curriculum to help MBA students develop to succeed at work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to explore current physician assistant (PA) student and alumni attitudes, knowledge, and perceptions towards recreational and medical marijuana. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study with PA students and alumni (N = 62) from a mid-sized university in the southeastern United States. We used an online QualtricsTM survey of 40 questions pertaining to both medical and recreational marijuana. Results: When asked about counseling patients on medical marijuana only 50.8% felt comfortable. Even fewer were comfortable with discussing drug interactions (39%). Participants felt that edibles were the safest route of administration (46.8%). The majority felt patient counseling should be incorporated into health sciences courses (79.7%). There was a statistically significant association between their knowledge and their comfort in answering questions about marijuana (p < .001) and between their knowledge and their comfort in addressing drug interactions (p = .005). Conclusion: Our results align with previous research concluding that a greater amount of marijuana education should be incorporated into healthcare professionals' curricula. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article examines what activism looks like in an age of "deep writing." As alumni find their ways through multiple domains of life after graduation, what role does writing play in helping them orient themselves toward engagement with the world around them? This article reviews relevant literature, including some of the difficulties of defining activism, and then analyzes focus group data in which participants describe different kinds of activism and the roles that writing plays in them. Civic and political engagement are at an inflection point in the United States. While some forms of engagement are on a negative path (e.g. contested civic education, dwindling community group membership), other forms are increasing (e.g. unionization, volunteerism, protests) (Atwell, Stillerman, Bridgeland, 2021). Many scholars and activists claim that one way to increase civic and political engagement is through civic education, yet most studies of civic education deal with conventional public schools. Minimal attention has been paid to the civic/political engagement potential of alternative forms of education. This article seeks to add to the relatively small body of knowledge about democratic free schools and their outcomes, especially as related to civic and political engagement. The Albany Free School (AFS) is a democratic free school where students self-direct their education. Such schools are part of a counter-hegemonic movement in the United States that dates back to the early 20th century and which has both anarchist and libertarian roots (von Duyke, 2013). Such schools purport to create spaces where students can develop critical authorial agency (Matusov, 2020) and habits/skills of engagement in the political/civic sphere. This article, based on data from interviews conducted with 18 alumni of the AFS, focuses specifically on discussions of alumni political and/or civic engagement and begins with a literature review defining how political and civic engagement manifests, and then moves into exploring the existing literature on the political/civic engagement-related outcomes of democratic free schools. This literature is mixed as to whether such schools are successful at nurturing such engagement, and the findings of the data collected in this study confirm these mixed outcomes. The article concludes with a discussion of the paradox presented in democratic education between having no defined curricular endpoints and a declared set of characteristics and dispositions that are sought. To characterize training program and early career factors that impact decision-making and job retention following graduation in a diverse population of urologists. We performed a computer-based survey distributed to residency graduates from 25 urology training programs. Five focus institutions were identified with a goal >30% response rate. The survey included questions about training program specifics and post-training employment characteristics. We obtained 180 responses from urology residency graduates of 25 programs. Overall, 72% (N = 129) remain in their initial post-training position at a median of 6 years postgraduation (Interquartile Range (IQR) 3-10). On Cox-regression analysis stronger trainee-rated formal career advising was associated with lower risk of changing jobs (HR 0.77, 0.60-0.99, P =.048). Location/proximity to family was the most consistently cited as the top reason for selecting a job (41%). Sixty-three respondents (35%) joined practices employing graduates of the same residency program. Cox regression analysis showed that joining a practice with alumni of the same program was associated with lower risk of changing jobs from one's initial post-training position (HR 0.39, 95% CI 0.17-0.91, P =.03). In this multi-institutional study of urologists, we observed a high rate of job retention out to a median of 6 years following completion of training, with formal career advising and joining alumni in practice being associated with job retention. Collectively, our data highlights that training programs should emphasize advising programs and alumni networking in guiding their graduates in the job search process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Job satisfaction is a multifaceted construct that involves the intricate interplay of an employee's emotional, cognitive, and behavioral characteristics with their job. Objectives: To explore the difference in job satisfaction among alumni and student medical representatives (MRs), as well as to identify the factors that influence the job satisfaction of MRs. Methods: A cross-sectional face-to-face survey was conducted with medical school students and alumni working as MRs in various Iraqi universities. Results: A total of 449 MRs participated in this study. A statistically significant difference was found in job satisfaction items, namely recognition, responsibility, salary, and working conditions between alumni and student MRs, with higher values observed in the alumni MRs group (p-values of 0.008, 0.003, 0.029, and 0.025, respectively). More than half of the participants had low levels of job satisfaction. Conclusions: Alumni and student MRs have similar levels of job satisfaction. The factors that significantly contribute to job satisfaction among alumni MRs include recognition of good performance, increased autonomy and responsibilities, competitive salaries, and improved working conditions within the company. Much has been written about the benefits of mentoring for both the mentors and the mentees, as well as the organizations involved. There are a variety of mentoring relationships available to undergraduate business students – peer to peer, faculty to student, graduate student to undergraduate student, and alumni to student. This paper provides a synopsis of alumni to undergraduate student peer mentoring programs at the majority of the top-ranked business schools. This document is an editorial introducing a new issue of the Revista Española de Orientación y Psicopedagogía (REOP). The editorial pays tribute to Professor Ronald Sultana, a sociologist and advocate for equity and social justice in education. The issue includes eight articles and a review, covering various topics in educational guidance and counseling. The articles were written by diverse and interdisciplinary groups, including authors from different areas, organizations, and contexts. The topics range from the well-being of young children during block play to the role of tutoring in competency-based learning. The issue also addresses vocational guidance, inclusive education, and career development in university settings. The articles employ qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methodologies. The first article focuses on the labor and educational status of rural youth in Colombia, while the second examines the well-being of children aged 2-3 during block play in Galicia. The third article explores the role of tutoring in competency-based learning in primary education, and the fourth investigates the transformative role of inclusive education advisors in response to new policies.
