In March 2020, following the annual International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) ratification vote on newly proposed taxa, the phylum Negarnaviricota was amended and emended. At the genus rank, 20 new genera were added, two were deleted, one was moved, and three were renamed. At the species rank, 160 species were added, four were deleted, ten were moved and renamed, and 30 species were renamed. This article presents the updated taxonomy of Negarnaviricota as now accepted by the ICTV.

In February 2019, following the annual taxon ratification vote, the order Bunyavirales was amended by creation of two new families, four new subfamilies, 11 new genera and 77 new species, merging of two species, and deletion of one species. This article presents the updated taxonomy of the order Bunyavirales now accepted by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV).

- Abstract
In March 2020, following the annual International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) ratification vote on newly proposed taxa, the phylum Negarnaviricota was amended and emended. At the genus rank, 20 new genera were added, two were deleted, one was moved, and three were renamed. At the species rank, 160 species were added, four were deleted, ten were moved and renamed, and 30 species were renamed. This article presents the updated taxonomy of Negarnaviricota as now accepted by the ICTV.

- Abstract
In March 2020, following the annual International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV) ratification vote on newly proposed taxa, the phylum Negarnaviricota was amended and emended. At the genus rank, 20 new genera were added, two were deleted, one was moved, and three were renamed. At the species rank, 160 species were added, four were deleted, ten were moved and renamed, and 30 species were renamed. This article presents the updated taxonomy of Negarnaviricota as now accepted by the ICTV.

Two phytotoxic furan derivatives were isolated, together with the well-known fungal and plant phytotoxin tyrosol, from the culture filtrates of Stilbocrea macrostoma. This fungal pathogen isolated from Quercus brantii trees induced wood necrosis and decline symptoms on the host plant in Iran. The two furan derivatives, isolated for the first time from Stilbocrea macrostoma, were identified by spectroscopic methods (essentially 1 D and 2 D
1 H and13 C NMR and ESIMS spectroscopy) as 5-hydroxymethylfuraldehyde and 2,5-dihydroxymethylfuran. The phytotoxic activity of the three metabolites was evaluated by leaf puncture assay on holm oak (Quercus ilex L.) and tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum L.) leaves. All compounds induced necrosis on holm oak leaves while very low toxicity was showed against tomato leaves. The two furan derivatives were more toxic than tyrosol and particularly 5-hydroxymethylfuraldehyde was the most phytotoxic compound. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

A novel negative-stranded (ns) RNA virus associated with a severe citrus disease reported more than 80 years ago has been identified. Transmission electron microscopy showed that this novel virus, tentatively named citrus concave gum-associated virus, is flexuous and non-enveloped. Notwithstanding, its two genomic RNAs share structural features with members of the genus Phlebovirus, which are enveloped arthropod-transmitted viruses infecting mammals, and with a group of still unclassified phlebo-like viruses mainly infecting arthropods. CCGaV genomic RNAs code for an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, a nucleocapsid protein and a putative movement protein showing structural and phylogenetic relationships with phlebo-like viruses, phleboviruses and the unrelated ophioviruses, respectively, thus providing intriguing evidence of a modular genome evolution. Phylogenetic reconstructions identified an invertebrate-restricted virus as the most likely ancestor of this virus, revealing that its adaptation to plants was independent from and possibly predated that of the other nsRNA plant viruses. These data are consistent with an evolutionary scenario in which trans-kingdom adaptation occurred several times during the history of nsRNA viruses and followed different evolutionary pathways, in which genomic RNA segments were gained or lost. The need to create a new genus for this bipartite nsRNA virus and the impact of the rapid and specific detection methods developed here on citrus sanitation and certification are also discussed.

- Abstract
The study regards the effects of eggplant mottled dwarf virus (EMDV) on Campanian tomato ecotypes Tondo Giallo, characterized by long shelf life, and Maiese, on ascorbic acid and polyphenol accumulations as plant response to the infection stress. Such response to virus is little studied, thus, we explored this on ecotypes for which we already found a different pattern of the metabolite accumulations during ripening that we associated also to their different shelf life. The EMDV was mechanically inoculated onto tomato plants grown in greenhouse until the second leaf stage, and virus infection was monitored by symptom expression and ELISA test. Both ecotypes showed almost similar susceptibility to the infection. In post inoculation, for both ecotypes total ascorbic acid (ascorbic and dehydroascorbic acids, tAsA) increased in leaves of diseased plants respect to healthy plants, in these latters higher tAsA was recorded for Maiese than for Tondo Giallo. Also, in leaves, although healthy Maiese showed lower total polyphenols (tPph) than healthy Tondo Giallo, in the diseased ecotypes the relative contents were inverted because tPph contents increased in Maiese and decreased in Tondo Giallo respect to the levels in the respective healthy plants. Both ecotypes, transferred in field, showed higher tPph in the typical discoloured symptomatic fruits, than in those from healty plants at any stage of sampling: immature, mature green, turning and ripe. Instead, tAsA in diseased fruits was generally lower for Tondo Giallo, and at turning and at ripe higher for Maiese, than in fruits from the respective healthy plants. Although both ecotypes were susceptible to EMDV infection, the host response seems to depend by the genotype, since Tondo Giallo did not always show increase in the antioxidant metabolites in the diseased organs as expected, because virus usually upregulates response genes. Investigations on gene regulations in tomatoes by EMDV have to be carried out.

- Abstract
Pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) is an important crop not only for the economic point of view, but also for the nutritional value of its fruits which are a source of antioxidants such as ascorbic acid, polyphenols, carotenoids, and chlorophylls. These, reduce the risk of onset of diseases such as atherosclerosis, some cancers and degenerative and cardiovascular disease. Antioxidants vary according to the genotype, developmental stage and environmental conditions. The aim of this study is to evaluate during ripening the accumulation of antioxidant metabolites in different pepper ecotypes and varieties which differ in the fruit colour and shape. Pepper seeds were provided by SemiOrto Sementi (http://www.semiorto.com) and plant germoplasm Regione Campania. The experiments were carried out in a greenhouse. Antioxidants in leaves were evaluated at vegetative stage, and in fruits at the stages: immature (IG); mature green (MG); turning (T), and ripe (R). In leaves, all analyzed antioxidants varied according to the genotypes. In general at higher polyphenol contents corresponded lower total ascorbic acid. Among the numerous genotypes, Corno di Capra Giallo showed the highest accumulations of total ascorbic acid, licopene, ß‐carotene and flavonoids and had also a good amount of total polyphenols and chlorophylls. In fruits, generally total ascorbic acid increased along ripening, and at the ripe the highest values was reached in Puparulillo and Papecchia and the lowest in Nocera Giallo. Instead, in the ecotype Rogianiello the highest total ascorbic acid was at MG stage. Polyphenols generally showed a minimum at MG and in the other stages was variable among ecotypes. This investigation could be useful as preliminary study for the pepper resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses, that are know to be controlled by antioxidants, and to evaluate nutraceutical quality of peppers that in Mediterranean diet are consumed at any ripening stage.

- Abstract
Several years ago, two cherry small circular RNAs (cscRNA1 and cscRNA2) and 10-12 double stranded RNAs (dsRNAs) of presumable viral origin were identified in sweet and sour cherry plants grown in Italy. These RNAs were found to be closely associated to a disease termed cherry chlorotic rusty spot (CCRS). The Italian CCRS disease is symptomatologically very similar to the Amasya cherry disease (ACD) described previously in Turkey, and both diseases have been closely associated with similar mycelium-like structures and with double-stranded (ds) RNAs of mycoviruses from the genera Chrysovirus, Partitivirus and Totivirus. More recently it has been realized that cherry trees from Spain affected by cherry leaf scorch (CLS), a fungal disease reported to be caused by Apiognomonia erythrostoma, family Gnomoniaceae (order Diaporthales), show a very similar symptomatology (translucent-chlorotic leaf spots evolving into rusty areas). However, although CLSand CCRS-affected trees have been associated with similar mycelia, fungal fructifications, fungal genes and mycoviral dsRNAs sharing high sequence similarity ? further supporting a close relationship between these two disorders the involvement of A. erythrostoma in CCRS has not been conclusively shown (Carrieri et al., J. Plant Pathol. 2012). Here we report that a small viroid-like RNA similar to cscRNA1 associated with CCRS is also present in CLS-affected trees, thus providing an additional link between them. Comparisons between cscRNAs from CLS and CCRS isolates have shown several common features, including sequence identity (83%), a quasi rod-like conformation with short bifurcations at both termini, and the presence of hammerhead ribozymes in both polarity strands. However, the CLS isolate lacks the recombinant molecules of smaller size (cscRNA2). Although the biological nature of cscRNAs remain to be conclusively shown, the identification of at least cscRNA1 in different cherry cultivars and geographic areas (Spain and Italy) in close association with the same mycoviral dsRNAs, strongly support the satellite nature of the cscRNAs, which could thus be the first mycovirus satellite RNAs.
