Este ensaio aproxima o nome de Eneida Maria de Souza ao de Jorge Luis Borges com o propósito de evidenciar a presença do escritor argentino na trajetória da autora mineira, em um jogo de duplos que afirma o projeto teórico-crítico de Eneida de Souza. Para tanto, este texto faz uma leitura de um livro e dois artigos dessa autora: “O século de Borges”, “Biografar é metaforizar o real” e “Madame Bovary somos nós”, respectivamente. Como forma de construção argumentativa, será usada a imagem do Aleph como prisma imagético através do qual se pode atravessar o vasto campo crítico e ensaístico de Eneida de Souza, não só pelo modo como se apropriava de detalhes vividos, de pequenos acontecimentos e conseguia fazer grandes conexões interpretativas e ficções teóricas: “A esfera luminosa que dá nome ao conto “O Aleph”, cujo centro está em todas as partes e a circunferência em nenhuma, é o ponto de encontro imaginário, eterno e fugaz do infinito”. (SOUZA, 1999, p. 74-75) Também se propõe a estabelecer relações entre dois personagens Funes, el memorioso e Santiago, o primeiro extraído de um conto de Jorge Luis Borges e o segundo do filme-documentário de João Moreira Salles, numa problematização sobre o campo da memória, desenvolvido por Eneida Maria de Souza.

The purpose of this paper is to introduce the idea of how to construct transfinite numbers and study transfinite arithmetic. The research method used is a literature review, which involves collecting various sources such as scientific papers and books related to Cantorian set theory, infinity, ordinal or transfinite arithmetic, as well as the connection between infinity and theology. The study also involves constructing the objects of study, namely ordinal numbers such as finite ordinals and transfinite ordinals, and examining their arithmetic properties. The results of this research include the methods of constructing both finite and transfinite ordinal numbers using two generation principles. Both finite and transfinite ordinal numbers are defined as well-orderings that are also transitive sets. Arithmetic of finite ordinal numbers is well-known, but the arithmetic of transfinite ordinal numbers will be introduced in this paper, including addition, multiplication, and exponentiation.

Science and art are often disconnected but, if combined, can help stimulate learning and novelty and guide societal change. How then to bridge the divide between scientists and artists in a way that extends beyond superficial, short-term interactions? We describe an ongoing coproduction practice between a Swedish sustainability scientist and two Chilean artists--a sculptor and painter--striving to find ways to work together. Our transdisciplinary collaboration was initiated in 2013 and, although there has never been an agenda or goal for our interaction, there has been a mutual interest to investigate joint possibilities. Through a series of meetings, we tried but failed to accomplish anything for several years. By 2022, we finally created something tangible together, realizing it was not just material objects we were producing but also a meeting between worlds. We describe how this long-term partnership, driven by mutual respect and curiosity, created conditions for bridging across our respective knowledge and practices. By working, walking, and exploring together, we learned how to communicate, overcome challenges of different languages, and combine perspectives. We have recognized similarities in how we engage with material from the natural world and how we combine elements for novelty. Through our interactions, we have started to identify how coproduced science and art can stimulate a reconnection with the biosphere, thereby providing a foundation for transformative societal change. This article presents an approach to the short story "The Aleph" (1945) by Jorge Luis Borges based on the parallel universes subject from two perspectives, the mathematical concept of transfinite, and the everyday life observation. Following Max Tegmark's hierarchy of the multiverse, it is set out to extend its philosophical content by defining how "The Aleph" argues the idea of the multiverse. On the one hand, this short story is capable of reflecting the motley spatiotemporal state of other simultaneous coexisting universes and, on the other hand, it can compress all its complexity into the simplest figure for its representation, the point. This collapse from the complex to the simple in Borges' short story shows that the perception of other realities, of other universes, lies in the apparent insignificance of the everyday life. En el cuento “El otro Aleph” de la escritora mexicana Cecilia Eudave se presenta una valiosa propuesta en torno al discurso fantástico sostenida por la alteridad tempo-espacial y por los desdoblamientos de los personajes, lo cual se complementa con sus vínculos transtextuales, en tanto remite al célebre cuento “El Aleph” de Jorge Luis Borges. El objetivo de este artículo consiste en analizar “El otro Aleph” de Eudave, a partir tanto de sus registros fantásticos como de sus relaciones transtextuales. La confluencia de ambos elementos demuestra que lo fantástico, en tal relato, surge gracias a sus vínculos con el cuento borgeano. Para el análisis recupero los postulados teóricos de Tzvetan Todorov y de Rosalba Campra. En concreto, de Todorov recobro el uso del imperfecto, las frases modalizantes, el sentido literal, la vacilación representada y los temas del Yo. A lo cual aúno la propuesta de Rosalba Campra, a través de las convalidaciones, los silencios, los indicios y las categorías sustantivas. Respecto a la transtextualidad, me centro en la propuesta de Gérard Genette, noción puntualizada en el paratexto, el intertexto y el hipertexto. Por todo ello, “El otro Aleph” de Cecilia Eudave configura un seductor mecanismo que implica el reconocimiento de la literatura anterior, pero también habilidad y talento para, a partir de una obra precedente, proponer un nuevo universo ficcional.

Im März 2018 nahm die sogenannte Netzwerkzone als dritte Einheit nach den Bibliotheken der Kohorten 1 und 2 den Betrieb auf. Nach einer mehrjährigen Projektlaufzeit ist damit der neue Kern der Verbundarchitektur erfolgreich implementiert worden. Der Aufsatz behandelt einerseits die neue Verbundarchitektur mit dem Parallelbetrieb zwischen Alma und Aleph und die Umstellung der verschiedenen zentralen Services auf diese neue Architektur.

The analysis of large structural databases reveals general features and relationships among proteins, providing useful insight. A different approach is required to characterize ubiquitous secondary‐structure elements, where flexibility is essential in order to capture small local differences. The ALEPH software is optimized for the analysis and the extraction of small protein folds by relying on their geometry rather than on their sequence. The annotation of the structural variability of a given fold provides valuable information for fragment‐based molecular‐replacement methods, in which testing alternative model hypotheses can succeed in solving difficult structures when no homology models are available or are successful. ARCIMBOLDO_BORGES combines the use of composite secondary‐structure elements as a search model with density modification and tracing to reveal the rest of the structure when both steps are successful. This phasing method relies on general fold libraries describing variations around a given pattern of β‐sheets and helices extracted using ALEPH. The program introduces characteristic vectors defined from the main‐chain atoms as a way to describe the geometrical properties of the structure. ALEPH encodes structural properties in a graph network, the exploration of which allows secondary‐structure annotation, decomposition of a structure into small compact folds, generation of libraries of models representing a variation of a given fold and finally superposition of these folds onto a target structure. These functions are available through a graphical interface designed to interactively show the results of structure manipulation, annotation, fold decomposition, clustering and library generation. Amid a weeding project, librarians at a state college suspected GreenGlass's circulation data was inaccurate. This study compared GreenGlass's and Aleph's circulation statistics for a random sample of books. It also determined if GreenGlass's list of books with zero uses included curriculum related works using keyword searching. The study compared GreenGlass's and due date slips' circulation data for curriculum related titles. Some GreenGlass circulation data was erroneous. Additionally, curriculum related books that circulated were on GreenGlass's zero use list. The study's results helped retain pertinent titles and highlighted the inadequacy of relying exclusively on circulation data to weed monographs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract The first measurements of two-particle angular correlations for charged particles emitted in e + e − collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 91 GeV are presented. The archived data are collected with the ALEPH detector at LEP. The correlation functions are measured over a broad range of pseudorapidity and azimuthal angle of the charged particles. Those results are compared to predictions from the PYTHIA event generator. In contrast to the results from high charged particle multiplicity nucleon-nucleon, nucleon-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions, where long-range correlations with a large pseudorapidity gap are observed, no significant enhancement of long-range correlations is observed with respect to PYTHIA predictions, which do not include additional final state interactions of the outgoing partons. Purpose. The paper presents a workshop titled Key Librarians for Cataloguing Module held at the Conference „Library Data: Interoperability, Connectivity, and Exchange“, held on 28th and 29th November 2017 at the National and University Library in Zagreb. The basic tasks of key librarians are: expert support to regular library work of the libraries in the network, testing new functionalities of system modules, monitoring and control of library system based on work reports, testing and analysis of service reports at the system level, collaboration with the integrated library system consultant, the base editors, system administrators, system and key librarians in charge of administrative system management, and assisting and educating participants in the system. Approach. Starting from the basic aspects of the role and work of key librarians within the Integrated Library System of the National and University Library in Zagreb and the libraries from the science and higher education system, every aspect of the work in the cataloging module is described. Findings. The integrated library system is based on the application of the common programming system Aleph, MARC 21 format, central authority control and national subject headings system. The National and University Library in Zagreb, being the central library of the system, provides professional, technical, and administrative support in the work of the common information and library system. The key librarians of the cataloging module conduct regular courses in the Basics of the Cataloging Module as well as practical exercises (demonstration). Libraries in the integrated library system commonly use the National and University Library authority database and templates, while the catalog bibliographic records are retrieved and downloaded as needed from the system's bases or are created from scratch. The librarians fill up the forms in which they describe the encountered difficulties and send them through the support system, https://iks.nsk.hr/podrska/, which are then resolved by the editors, or key and system librarians. Practical use. The results of this paper can help librarians who work in the Integrated system member libraries in their day-to-day work. Originality/Value. Based on experimental results and existing resources, the paper explored and identified the major contributing factors to the email notice issue, including local administrator status, Aleph client, mail server, Aleph system files, and security settings. The paper elaborated the troubleshooting process, and how to find the solution to the issue. The authors suggested recommendations based the lessons learned from the project experience. The project experience presented in this paper should be instructive for libraries solving the similar problems.

Paulo Coelho’s Aleph is a novel about ‘time’ and the human experience of time via Aleph, a magical point in the universe that renders possible time travel into the era of the Spanish Inquisition to witness the tragic process of condemning a group of young girls to death. The novel is also reminiscent of its precursor, ‘The Aleph,’ a short story by Jorge Luis Borges. In this essay, I briefly examine Coelho’s novel in respect to Borges’s short story and the Greek and Judeo-Christian conceptions of time. More extensively, I probe the complexity of Coelho’s depiction of time, the two modes of Aleph, and the experience of time and reincarnation by drawing upon Gilles Deleuze’s two diverse, albeit intersecting, approaches to time and its dimensions: the Chronos and Aion conceptions of time and the three syntheses of past, present, and future. As the novel delineates the contours of a shared experience of time by a Christian author and a young Muslim musician, I investigate how Aleph, in Coelho’s novel, functions as a perennial symbol of convergence and compassion among the followers of ostensibly irreconcilable religions. In March 2018 the new Network Zone together with 13 Institution Zones linked went live with Alma as the nucleus of the new network architecture of the Austrian Library Network. Still more than 50 institutions in the Austrian consortium use Aleph as library system and will switch to Alma in the next years. One of the main goals in the project was a fully functional parallel operation between Aleph and Alma. The article will start explaining how the two systems are synchronized on bibliographic level (including MAB to MARC converter) and how inventory from member institutions in Aleph is displayed in Alma. It continues with an overview about additonal services that have to adapted to the two systems (e.g. workflow for reminders, Visual Library, GND, Primo and much more). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose. The aim of this paper is to analyze the methods of linking bibliographic records with the use of MARC 21 linking entry fields and special Aleph linking field LKR, with reference to the Integrated Library System of the National and University Library in Zagreb and Croatian Academic and Research Libraries. Approach: A theoretical and practical view of the use of MARC 21 linking entry fields and Aleph special linking field LKR in and beyond the context of the Integrated Library System of the National and University Library in Zagreb and Croatian Academic and Research Libraries has been given on the basis of literature overview. The use of these fields in original cataloging in bibliographic databases NSK01 and ZAG01 has been discussed, as well as their use after record download from bibliographic database NSK01 to ZAG01. Findings: The fully functionality of LKR links between bibliographic records in NSK01 and ZAG01 databases has been shown. Originality/value: The paper deals with the functionality of linking fields briefly through the context of bibliographic conceptual models, thus opening up space for consideration of linking fields in the (open) linked data environment. Recently, The City College of New York (CCNY) libraries engaged in a collaborative project to transfer the bibliographic holdings for textbook course reserves to a new module when their integrated library systems, the Ex Libris Aleph Integrated Library System, underwent a system upgrade. In this article, the Chief of Circulation and the Chief of Cataloging share and analyze the various steps and challenges undertaken to complete this project, which took place over the span of three semesters.
