This study evaluated 30 lambs, 20 naturally infected with coccidia oocysts (infected group) and 10 healthy lambs (control group). Blood samples were collected from both groups for evaluation of ascorbic acid values in plasma and blood cells analysis. Mean plasma ascorbic acid values in the infected group were lower than those in the control group (0.76 ± 0.19 and 2.00 ± 0.58 mg/dl, respectively). A decrease in erythrocyte, haemoglobin and haematocrit values and an increase in leukocyte values were determined.

Both cattle and dogs were examined in modern and rural dairy farms that had a history of abortion over 5%. The blood samples were collected from 427 aborted cattle and the sera were tested using a commercial ELISA test kit. Additionally, a necropsy procedure was carried out on the fetuses and calves dead within 2 months after birth; the tissue samples were evaluated by histopathologic, immunoperoxidase, and PCR techniques. Eighteen dogs in close contact with the cattle in the same field were included in the study and blood and feces samples were collected. The feces samples were analyzed by copro-PCR and the sera were tested by indirect fluorescent antibody test. As a result, 161 out of 427 sera samples (37.7%) were found positive for N. caninum. In cattle, the lowest seropositivity was 6.7% and the highest seropositivity was 74.24%. Neosporosis seroprevalence in integrated holdings was lower than those of rural dairy cattle facilities (66.7%). The seropositivity for N. caninum in dogs was determined as 72.7% in rural holdings and 28.6% in integrated holdings. According to the risk analysis, N. caninum-seropositive cows had greater exposure to N. caninum-seropositive dogs in rural family holdings and integrated holdings (P = 0.054, odds ratio = 0.929; and P= 0.008, odds ratio = 0.986, respectively).

Giardia duodenalis çeşitli omurgalılarda hastalık yapan bir protozoondur. Çiftlik hayvanlarında oluşan ishalin önemli sebeplerinden biridir. Sığır ve koyunlarda ishal, dehidrasyon ve kilo kaybı gibi klinik bulgular bildirilmiştir fakat çiftlik hayvanlarında giardiazis tedavisinde kullanılan ilaçlar sınırlıdır. Bu çalışmada doğal infekte giardiazisli kuzularda 3 gün oral kullanılan 20 mg Albendazol, 50 mg ve 100 mg Paromomisinin (kg canlı ağırlık) terapötik etkileri karşılaştırıldı. Bu ilaçların etkinliği kist atılımındaki azalmaya bakılarak değerlendirildi. Albendazol grubunda 5. günde 7 kuzuda ve 8. günde bütün hayvanlarda kist atılımı sıfırlandı. 50 mg/kg paromomisinle tedavi grubunda 2. günde 3 kuzu ve 6. günde bütün hayvanlarda kist atılımı sıfırlandı. 100 mg/kg paromomisinle tedavi grubunda ise 2. günde 5 kuzu ve 6. günde bütün hayvanlarda kist atılımı sıfırlandı. Tedavi öncesi lökosit değeri bütün gruplarda normalin üstünde tespit edildi. Paromomisin total lökosit sayısını albendazole göre daha fazla düşürdü. Sonuç olarak giardiazisli kuzuların tedavisinde paromomisin albendazole oranla etkili bulundu. Giardia duodenalis is a protozoan that infects a variety of vertebrates. It is a major cause of diarrhea in agricultural animals. There have been reports of clinical signs in cattle and sheep, which include diarrhea, dehydration and weight loss, however; there are limited drugs available for the treatment of giardiasis in animals. In this study, we compared the therapeutic effect of 20 mg albendazole, 50 mg and 100 mg paromomycin (kg body weight orally) for 3 successive days in lambs naturally infected with giardiasis. The efficacy of these drugs was evaluated based on reduction in cyst excretion. In the group treated with albendazole, no cysts were seen in the feces after treatment on D5 (day 5) in 7 lambs and on D8 in all animals. In the group treated with 50mg/kg of paromomycin, no cysts were seen in the feces after treatment on D2 in 3 lambs and on D6 in all animals. In the group treated with 100 mg/kg of paromomycin, there were no cysts after treatment on D2 in 5 lambs and on D6 in all of lambs. White blood cell (WBC) levels were high in all groups before treatment; paromomycin decreased the total leukocyte count more than albendasole. In the present study, we found paromomycin to be more effective than albendozole for the treatment of lambs with giardiasis for both treatment regiments mentioned above.

Sığırlarda mavidil hastalığında oral lezyonların tedavisinde Tarantula cubensis ekstratının 1:100/D2 (Theranekron®, Richter Pharma, Austria) etkinliği değerlendirilmiştir. Mavidil hastalığı bulunan 9 holştayn sığır çalışmada kullanıldı. Ateş, iştahsızlık, akut ağrılı ve kanamalı ağız lezyonları ve topallık bulguları vardı. Tedaviye serolojik sonuçlar beklenmeden başlandı. Klinik olarak hasta 6 sığır tetracycline, flunixin meglumin ve Tarantula cubensis ekstraktı (Theranekron) ile tedaviye alındı. Diğer hasta 3 sığır ise kontrol olarak Theranekron’suz aynı tedavi kürüne alındı. Yirmidört saat sonra tedavi grubunda kontrol grubuna kıyasla daha hızlı re-epitelizasyon ve vücut ısısında normale dönüş görüldü. The study evaluated the influence of Tarantula cubensis extract 1:100/D2 (Theranekron®, Richter Pharma, Austria) on the treatment of the oral lesions in Bluetongue disease in cattle. Nine Holstein cattle with Bluetongue disease were used in the experiment. Clinical signs included fever, anorexia, acute painful bleeding of oral lesions and lameness. Treatment was started without waiting for the serological confirmation of the disease. Six clinically ill cattle (treatment group) were treated with tetracycline, flunixin meglumin and Tarantula cubensis extract (Theranekron). The remaining three ill cattle were used as control group and treated with the same treatment regiment except for Theranekron. Twenty four hours after theranekron application re-epithelisation occurred and body temperature returned to normal more rapidly in the treatment group than the control group.

SHORT COMMUNICATION The aim of the present study was to determine some coagulation parameters in cattle with left displacement of abomasum (LDA). Ten cattle with LDA (study group) and 10 clinically healthy cattle (control group) were included in the study. Platelet (PLT) counts, activated partial prothrombin time (APTT), prothrombin time (PT), fibrinogen and clotting times were measured before surgical intervention. All cattle in the study group had no statistically significant differences for each parameter tested when compared with control group (P>0.05). However, when the individual values of parameters of each cow were evaluated four cattle in the study group had abnormal APTT values (APTT ≥ 58.1 s). But showed no disorders that may be attributed to disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). The results of this study showed that DIC might not be a serious problem in cattle with LDA.

Ehrlichiosis, vektör kaynaklı hastalıklar içerisinde yer almaktadır ve Antalya bölgesinde bulaşmada rol oynayan keneler oldukça yaygındır. Ayrıca Antalya bölgesinde bu hastalığın prevalansı köpeklerde yüksek seyretmektedir. Gerek kenelerin yaygınlığı gerekse hastalığın prevalansının köpeklerde yüksek seyretmesi kediler için de önemli risk oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışma Antalya ilindeki kedilerde Ehrlichia canis seroprevalansının araştırılması amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmada 222 kediden serum örnekleri alınmış ve bu örnekler İmmun Flouresan Antikor testiyle (IFAT) serolojik olarak incelenmiştir. Test sonuçlarına göre 222 adet kedinin hiç birinde E. canis seropozitifliği belirlenememiştir. Bu çalışma Antalya bölgesi için kedilerin E. canis için rezervuar olabileceği ve ehrlichiosis epidemiyolojisi hakkında bilgi sağlamak için daha fazla araştırmaya ihtiyaç olduğunu göstermektedir. Canine ehrlichiosis is an important tick borne disease and the ticks which are vectors of this disease are prevalent in Antalya region. Ehrlichiosis is well documented in dogs and has high prevalance in Antalya. Ticks and high dog prevalance are also generates high risks for cats. The purpose of this study was to investigate seroprevalance of Ehrlichia canis in cats in Antalya. Total 222 serum sample were collected from cats randomly. Serum immune fluorescent antibody test was used to determine E. canis. It has been determined that, none of the cats were sero positive. It has been proposed that cats might be only the reservoir for E. canis. To understand the exact epidemiology of E. canis, more investigation is needed. 44

Vektör kaynaklı hastalıkları anlamak ve mücadele etmek için bu hastalıkların geçmişi ve prevalansıyla ilgili daha fazla bilgiye ihtiyaç vardır. Bu çalışma Antalya ilindeki köpeklerde Ehrlichia canis seroprevalansının araştırılması amacıyla yapıldı. Çalışmada 250 köpekten serum örnekleri alınmış ve bu örnekler immun flouresan antikor testiyle (IFAT) serolojik olarak incelenmiştir. Test sonuçlarına göre 250 adet köpeğin 36'sı (%14,4) serolojik olarak pozitif bulunmuştur. Sonuç olarak Antalya ilinde E canis prevalansının yüksek olduğu görülmektedir. Antalya ilinin coğrafi konumu, sosyal ve kültürel yapısı nedeniyle gerek etken ve gerekse vektör mücadelesi ayrı bir önem kazanmaktadır. To understand and combat vector-borne diseases, more knowledge is needed about the past and prevalence of these diseases. This study was conducted to investigate the seroprevalence of Ehrlichia canis in dogs in Antalya province. Serum samples from 250 dogs were taken and serologically examined by immunofluorescence antibody test (IFAT). According to the test results, 36 (14.4%) of 250 dogs were found to be serologically positive. As a result, the prevalence of E canis is seen to be high in Antalya province. Because of the geographical position, social and cultural structure of Antalya province, the agent and the vector struggle gain a special importance. 44
